moots

a friend who has a 2002 525i had this same issue.the geen light came on but the crz function don't work.the mech replace the maf sensor and that did it....i don't know how the maf is connected to the auto crz but it apparently worked for him.....

I should definitely clean my wheel speed sensors, but my plan to fix my cruise control in a few weeks is to transplant a module and actuator from a similar 540i 6-speed. Apparently this worked for another e39 owner.

Here's a DIY for the broken cog teeth fix. You can reposition the cog. Cruise Control Actuator Repair

I've actually tried that fix but I'm skeptical about it. Wouldn't the broken teeth eventually reach the other gear at some point and you'd have the same problem?

Hi guys thanks for the insights. My accelerator is not the cable type and thus the gears thing may not work for me. i think i will try what moots thinks and change my MAF sensor. Guess there will be no harm in changin it. Or is there a away of diagnosing it. By the way, yesterday my cruise again worked for a moment and then after breaking my speed on braking, it failed to resume. It seems to be working erratically. Is there such a thing as a loose connection?

There is appsolutly positivly No way On this planet that your maf is in ANY way related to your cruse control, you can replace it if you wish, and i will buy your old from you, but i assure you that There is no connection between the Mass air flow senors and any part of the cruse speed control , or speed managment and Id system, So forget that, your looking for wheel sensors, break light switches, anything that works in tandom with the cruz control system, so just from logic you can start to put a list of things that might interfer with the cruz system, The button on the wheel, the brake light switch turning it off the motor that holes the throttle body open, The cableing to said motor,

I think a new actuator for around $30 used is more worthwhile than attempting to temporarily fix the one I have already. Those wheels look nice with your paint color, I'm refurbing and hopefully spacing my style 19s very soon.

Guys am now in Bonn, Germany for a short trip. can somebody assist with directions for where i can find a BMW accessories shop? I need to do some shopping for my E39. Am sure there is some place here in Bonn. please its urgent. I would not mind to also know if there is a place for second hand parts besides accessories to pimp up m!y ride

Random cruise control issues I'm seeing if anyone is having the same issues as me with my Cruise Control. Most times when I turn on the CC the dash light comes on, but when I try to set a speed it won't hold, the dash light goes out, and I can't get it back on. Also, sometimes when it Is engaged, the CC light and functions will cut off without notice. Last, I've never been able to engage it above 100 km/h. 1998 540iA, 108k miles

My issue was the actuator, which has since broken again. Depending on which teeth are broken on the plastic gear relative to the turning gear (which is activated when you turn on cruise control) you may be able to position a piece of rubber stopper as shown in the DIY. The broken teeth on my actuator gear are too far from the initial starting point when I activate cruise control to use the rubber stopper technique. I'd recommend you open up your actuator and check to see if there are any teeth broken off the large gray gear. I'll need to buy a whole new actuator to fix my cruise control.

I bought a used unit, which failed after roughly 6 months. So there's no way to tell. I'll be buying another used one soon, since I can't justify spending close to $300 on a new one.

Curise Control ....makes me wonder once again about the use of plastic (or nylon, etc.) parts under the hood; and this is a 'moving' part too, ugh.

Do tell.... Let me guess... you unplugged you maf and it ran better so you think you need a maf? If you car is misfireing it wont use cruse, but that has nothing to do with the maf... just because your maf is causeing your car to mis fire, is not the same as saying your maf will stop your cruse, NO your CEL will stop your cruse from working...

save the argument and refer to the Bentley manal... there is a very clear explanation of why the CC doesn't work and shouldn't work when emission faults (CEL) is present Its in the definition of Bentley Cruse control explanation

Ok we are having a language barrier Good luck dude

Dry solder joints on cruise actuator I had a problem with the green light on dash coming on when engaging the cruise but after pressing any cruise button multiple times the light would go off and no cruise would engage. I found all the plug pins on the cruise control actuator pcb were dry or pulled through , therefore no contact to coil or servo motor, no response from the cruise control equalled the dash light going off and not being able to turn on again until the next restart of the car. Once the joints were resolderd cruise control was working again.

First of all: 1996 E39 520i M52 I'll contribute to this just by saying something that is possibly not news for many. My Cruise Control does not work untill engine reaches a good temperature, takes about 10 min or so to get there sometimes, whatever the temperature the controller wants it to reach. And then can work for hours. But sometimes misteriously it will not work even on correct temp. But works most times.

  1. cruise control malfunction

If your cruise engages and quickly disengages, broken teeth are probably your issue. Check out the 9 o'clock position of the gear wheel of the actuator on the left. You'll see a section of 4 or 5 teeth missing. The actuator on the right has a couple of chipped teeth and wouldn't hold cruise engaged either. Like.

  2. "Cruise Control Malfunction" error message after steering

There is a small "cruise control module" which sits inside the steering wheel which I thought was only necessary for the heating element so I had removed it since the bmwperf wheel doesn't have heating.
