Brooklyn & Bailey McKnight Debut Their Merch Collection, Discuss Touring For The First Time

Brooklyn and Bailey McKnight are embarking on their first tour ever, with some new merch as well.

Beyond gearing up for their first-ever nationwide tour, YouTube stars Brooklyn and Bailey McKnight are launching a fun and colorful array of back-to-school merchandise . 

“The inspiration behind our merchandise collection was to create products people would want show off. Sometimes merch can be a tad cheesy, but we made an active effort to create products that are fashionable and stylized,” Brooklyn McKnight tells Billboard . The sisters revamped back-to-school products with cute, playful prints like their aqua blue spiral notebooks with muffins and orange juice patterns and their coral-pink backpack accessorized with vibrant pom-pom keychains. “We put a lot of effort into developing our first collection; ensuring every detail of each item, from color to fabric, and fit was something we loved, so we hope everyone else loves them as well.”

The McKnight twins, who first got their start on YouTube  say that while they adore every item in their debut collection, for their upcoming tour they “definitely couldn’t live without” their GRL PWR distressed tee and two-pack denim choker necklaces (pricing TBD). “Both of those totally channel girl power, and can be styled in any way you want,” Bailey says.

Reflecting on how far the duo has come since launching their self-titled YouTube channel back in November 2010, the twins say their career trajectory feels “surreal.” “A couple of years ago this was just an idea, and now we’re about to go on our first tour. It’s going to be such a good feeling to look out into the crowd and see people in our merch singing along to our songs,” Bailey says.

And as for what fans of the 17-year-old duo can expect during their live show? Plenty of music, dancing and family-friendly fun. “We’re working on creating a show that is super interactive and gives the audience a chance to be part of the show. We’ll be singing our three singles, “ Dance Like Me ,” “ Simple Things ” and “ What We’re Made Of, ” and two covers we haven’t released yet. We’ve also planned tons of fun games and challenges to play with the audience. Kamri (their sister), along with other surprises guests, will be there too.”

5 Things You Need to Know About YouTube Sensations Brooklyn and Bailey McKnight

Brooklyn and Bailey McKnight started their career as YouTube stars on their mother Mindy's hairstyling channel, Cute Girls Hairstyles, which fully supports the family of eight off of its revenue alone

Some call them the dynamic duo.

Identical twins Brooklyn and Bailey McKnight have accumulated over 2.5 million subscribers and more than 280 million video views on their fashion, beauty and “all things fun” YouTube channel Brooklyn And Bailey since they created it in March 2013.

Here are five things you need to know about 16-year-old internet sensations:

1. Fans interacted with the back of their heads for much too long before demanding to be introduced to the real deal.

The girls got their start as contributors to their mother Mindy’s channel Cute Girls Hairstyles , which is the top hairstyling channel on YouTube and brings in enough revenue to support their family of eight.

“Our mom’s channel has been niche in hair tutorials from the beginning, with us acting basically as hair models up until a few years ago,” Bailey tells PEOPLE. “Since viewers pretty much only ever saw the backs of our heads, they often commented wanting to know more about us.”

Adds Brooklyn: “In a lot of ways, it made sense to start BrooklynAndBailey, what we call a “Grow Up With Us” channel, where our viewers could get to know us better as twins and experience many things that teen girls go through…. getting braces, beginner makeup, babysitting tips, dating advice, budget fashion tips, fun family activities.”

2. They love makeup and may (eventually) end up with their own line!

“We would love to either launch our own mascara line, or partner with a known brand on one,” says Brooklyn. “A high percentage of our YouTube comments come from viewers either complimenting us on our eyes, or wanting to know which mascara we use!”

3. As you’ll come to find, they’re extraordinarily passionate about their education.

“Our parents told us from the very beginning that school is our number one job, then family, then YouTube,” Brooklyn says of their not-so-easy schedule.

Adds Bailey: “Our parents do a good job helping to take care of things while we are at school, so we can stay in traditional school and to be involved as much as we can. We also have great teachers and school administrators who understand what we do, and are as flexible as they can within the policies.”

4. Can you get a Bachelor’s degree in YouTube?

“Education is very important in our family and we both plan on going to college,” says Brooklyn about following in their parents’ footsteps and continuing their education through college. “It’s crazy to think that this is our Junior year, where we’ll take the ACT and begin taking college campus tours!”

“We plan on continuing YouTube either at school together or at separate universities,” Bailey adds. “It may even be that we do online course work for a while to allow for our travel schedule.”

5. Nope, but that’s A-Okay.

Bailey wants a career in Marketing with a Minor in Broadcast Journalism, while Brooklyn wants to study business or possibly become a child psychiatrist.

Brooklyn and Bailey McKnight are quite the dynamic duo. The 19-year-old, Texas-based identical twins burst onto the scene back in 2013 with their YouTube channel,  BrooklynAndBailey . The B-Team is raking in the big bucks these days, but how exactly did the young YouTubers get their start in the first place? 

YouTube fame runs in the family

Before becoming YouTube stars in their own right, the twins got their start in 2009 when they started appearing as models on their mother Mindy McKnight's DIY YouTube channel, Cute Girls Hairstyles , which features hair tutorials. Despite sitting pretty for their mom's YouTube series for about four years, most of the time subscribers weren't seeing much of the girls' personalities (or faces), which led to interest as to who the models were. 

"Since viewers pretty much only ever saw the backs of our heads, they often commented wanting to know more about us," Bailey told People . Brooklyn added, "In a lot of ways, it made sense to start BrooklynAndBailey, what we call a "Grow Up With Us" channel, where our viewers could get to know us better as twins and experience many things that teen girls go through.... getting braces, beginner makeup, babysitting tips, dating advice, budget fashion tips, fun family activities."Just two years after they launched their channel, the twins made Business Insider 's list of 13 up-and-coming YouTube stars to follow. The same year, the twins launched another channel called Squared , a channel by twins for twins .

Although it might seem like YouTube is their life , the twins' parents have made it clear where their priorities should lie. "Our parents told us from the very beginning that school is our number one job, then family, then YouTube," Brooklyn told People . That's why even though they're still producing content on a weekly basis, the girls are also enrolled at Baylor University where they're both majoring in entrepreneurship. For Brooklyn and Bailey, twinning really is winning.
