20 Best CORON PALAWAN TOURIST SPOTS & Things to Do

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

When we think of Coron, the first thing that comes to mind are the towering karst cliffs that cloister pristine lagoons and lakes. These limestone walls have become iconic, but they’re not really unique to the area. Several other destinations in the Philippines have the same wonders to brag about — from El Nido just across the sea to Caramoan all the way to the other side of the country — but what sets Coron apart is the sheer diversity of what it has to offer.

Coron is part of the Calamianes, a collection of jagged islands that pepper the waters of Northern Palawan. It is the tourism hub in the area. Its map is dotted with tour operator offices, hotels, hostels, and guesthouses. Consequently, this made the town of Coron the major jump-off point to tourist attractions in neighboring islands and municipalities.

Coron offers a wide array of tourist spots and activities — from lustrous lagoons to beautiful beaches to unforgettable dive sites. They even have saltwater hot springs, which is pretty rare, and, believe it or not, an African safari.

Note: Most of these attractions can be accessed as part of an organized tour — either by chartering a private ride or by joining a group tour. You can also pull a D-I-Y if you have the means. In addition, opening hours might change without prior notice, so please check the official websites or Facebook pages before visiting.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

1. Kayangan Lake

This scenic lake can be reached after a 15-minute trek up a hill, a bit challenging but totally worth it. But even before reaching the actual lake, you will be treated to a magnificent view of the clear blue waters halfway. This image from the view deck is what you will usually see when you search Kayangan Lake on the internet.

calamian tourist boat association

To reach the actual lake, you need to do a few minutes of trekking, but the sight of Kayangan Lake will make the climb worth it. It is hailed as one of “the cleanest lakes in the Philippines”. It’s also important to note that the area is maintained by the local Tagbanua tribe. Take a dip and appreciate the surrounding rock formations. Go early to avoid the crowd.

Entrance Fee: P300 Tour Guide Fee: P500 If chartering a private boat: Standard rates are P2,700 (2-4 pax) / P3,250 (5-8 pax) / P3,800 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. If joining a group tour: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions before booking.

2. Barracuda Lake

Barracuda Lake is another popular lake on Coron Island that is open to the public.

calamian tourist boat association

Why Barracuda? It’s said to be named after a giant barracuda fish whose skeleton was discovered in the depths of the lake. Like the Kayangan Lake, it has brackish water, a combination of saltwater and freshwater, but what makes it more interesting, especially for divers, is the thermocline — layers of cold, warm, and hot waters.

Be sure to follow the safety regulations when swimming and diving.

Entrance Fee: P250 Tour Guide Fee: P500 If booking a private boat: P2,700 (2-4 pax) / P3,250 (5-8 pax) / P3,800 (9-15 pax) per boat. Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. If joining a group tour: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions before booking.

3. Twin Lagoon

This is a double treat for tourists! This stop features two pieces of paradise separated by a low karst wall.

calamian tourist boat association

The first lagoon where the boats are docked can easily get crowded, especially at midday. The second lagoon can be accessed in two ways, depending on the tide — taking the ladder over the rock during high tide or swimming through an opening underneath the rock during low tide. Either way, take utmost care when transiting between the two.

You may feel a combination of warm and cold water as you swim in the lagoons.

Entrance Fee: P200 Tour Guide Fee: P500 If booking a private boat: P2,700 (2-4 pax) / P3,250 (5-8 pax) / P3,800 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. If booking a group tour: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary first before booking. Some tour packages don’t have Twin Lagoon in their itinerary.

You can book this tour through Klook! The Coron Super Ultimate Day Tour and Coron Tour B both include Twin Lagoon in their itineraries.

4. Banul Beach

calamian tourist boat association

Aside from the lagoons and lakes, Coron is also blessed with beautiful beaches both on the mainland and on the islands. Banul Beach features powdery white sand, limestone walls, and a coral garden.

Banul Beach is the usual lunch stop for the Coron Island Tour, although not always. Some tour operators do their lunch stop somewhere else when the beach has already reached its traffic capacity.

Entrance Fee: P150 Tour Guide Fee: P500 If booking a private boat: P2,700 (2-4 pax) / P3,250 (5-8 pax) / P3,800 (9-15 pax). The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. If booking a join-in tour: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions before booking. Some tour packages don’t have Banul Beach in their itinerary.

5. CYC Beach

calamian tourist boat association

Coron Youth Club (CYC) Beach is usually part of the Coron Island Tour package. The beach has fascinated both local and foreign tourists for its clear waters, fine white sand, and picturesque beachscape embellished with mangrove trees and rock formations.

Entrance Fee: FREE Tour Guide Fee: P500 If booking a private boat: P2,700 (2-4 pax) / P3,250 (5-8 pax) / P3,800 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. If booking a group tour package: P1,500 – P1,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions first before booking. 7. Mount Tapyas

At 210 meters, Mount Tapyas offers a panoramic view of its surroundings. At its summit stands a giant cross. At sunset or sunrise, you can also witness the sky’s colorful gradient.

calamian tourist boat association

But to get to the top, you need to conquer around 700 concrete steps. But fret not, rest stops with chairs have been installed along the way. For those who are not really into hiking, you can stop and take a breather in one of these rest decks.

To reach Mount Tapyas, you can march to the base of the hill independently (DIY-style) or charter a tricycle. If you want a hassle-free trip, you can book a Coron Town Tour . Whatever you choose, make sure to bring enough water and sun protection for this activity.

Entrance Fee: FREE Coron Town Tour: P700 – P1,600 per person. Check the itinerary and inclusions first before booking.

8. Maquinit Hot Springs

After your island-hopping escapade or your Mount Tapyas hike, Maquinit Hot Spring is a perfect place to cap off your day. The hot spring bath draws dozens of tourists — locals and foreigners — despite the considerable distance from the town center.

You can book a tour or just charter a tricycle to go there. The roundtrip tricycle fare is around P350. The travel time is around 30 minutes from the town center.

Entrance Fee: P200 Coron Town Tour: P700 – P1,600 per person. Check the itinerary and inclusions first before booking.

9. Calauit Safari

A piece of Africa in the Philippines? Yes!

calamian tourist boat association

Although not really an African safari, the Calauit Safari Park still entices you with an experience that is different from the usual island destination activities in the Philippines. The island provides a habitat for animals that are not native in the Philippines like giraffes and zebras.

Calauit is located in the municipality of Busuanga, on the other side of the island, so it can take a lot of time to reach. To get to the Calauit Safari, you travel by sea or travel by land.

If you want to visit Black Island too, then the recommended mode is by boat. Here are the other stops when you travel by boat: Lusong Coral Garden and Gun Boat Wreck and Pamilacan Island. Other packages might include these stops: North Cay and South Cay.

If you choose to go by land, the itinerary will depend on the operator. Choose the one that suits your preferences. The trip by land usually consists of 2-4 of these attractions (aside from Calauit Safari): Conception Falls, Malbato Chapel, North/South Cay, Pamilacan Island, and Lusong Coral Garden and Gun Boat Wreck.

Entrance Fee: P250 (Filipinos) / P400 (Regular) Tour Guide Fee: P500 Standard Boat Rates: P9,300 (2-4 pax) / P10,400 (5-8 pax) / P17,000 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. Calauit Safari Tour Rates: P2,500 – P3,000 per person (ALL IN). 10. Black Island

Situated northwest of Busuanga Island is Malajon Island , popularly called Black Island by the locals and tourists.

calamian tourist boat association

It looks intimidating from afar because of its distinct feature — the dark colossal karst cliffs that largely define the island’s landscape. These peaks rise from a huge bed of white sand that slopes steeply and slides under the waves. It’s a wide and happy playground for the beach lover.

Aside from snorkeling, diving, or beach-bumming, you can also go cave hunting as the island have caves that are open to the public. The biggest can be easily accessed by climbing a short ladder. Its floor is cracked open, allowing a glimpse of the cold crystal water that filled its miniature lakes. Stalactites adorn its ceiling and rocks covered in sparkling white silica make up its walls.

Black Island is usually part of the Calauit Safari Tour by sea.

Entrance Fee: P200 Tour Guide Fee: P500 Standard Boat Rates: P9,300 (2-4 pax) / P10,400 (5-8 pax) / P17,000 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. Calauit Safari Tour Rates: P2,500 – P3,000 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions first before booking.

11. Pamalican Island

There are two Pamalican Islands in Palawan: the popular one is in Cuyo, which is exclusively owned by Amanpulo; the other can be found in Busuanga, easily accessible from Coron.

calamian tourist boat association

Lying west of Busuanga, this 50-hectare island is fringed by a wide expanse of light-colored sand and is covered by a dense forest. This is the best place for beach lovers to laze around and swim.

Pamalican Island is usually included in the Calauit Safari Tour itinerary.

Entrance Fee: P100 Tour Guide Fee: P500 Standard Boat Rates: P9,300 (2-4 pax) / P10,400 (5-8 pax) / P17,000 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. Calauit Safari Tour Rates: P2,500 – P3,000 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions first before booking.

12. Lusong Coral Garden & Gun Boat

calamian tourist boat association

Lusong Coral Garden is another usual stop in the Calauit Safari Tour itinerary. This activity is amazing and enjoyable not only for those who know how to dive but also for those who are content just snorkeling.

The vast coral garden is a sight to behold — various colorful marine creatures frolicking in and out of the various formations of vibrant corals.

Lusong also has a shipwreck of a World War II gunboat.

Klook’s Coron Reefs and Wreck Day Tour includes Lusong Coral Garden at Gun Boat in the itinerary.

13. Malcapuya Island, Bulog Dos & Banana Island

calamian tourist boat association

These island destinations are tailor-fit for those who are interested in beach bumming and swimming. These three share the same feature — powdery white sand beaches, cerulean waters, and rock formations — but each of them still offers something different and will make you appreciate the natural beauty of Coron.

All three are usually included in Malcapuya Island Tour , sometimes called Island Escapade Tour or Beaches Tour . Some packages also have Malaroyroy Island in the itinerary.

Entrance Fee: P250 (Malcapuya Island) / P250 (Bulog Dos) / P250 (Banana Island) Tour Guide Fee: P500 Standard Boat Rates: P4,350 (4 pax) / P5,450 (8 pax) / P7,100 (15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. Island Escapade Tour Rates: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). 14. Fireflies and Plankton Tour

It’s something that we highly recommend! This tour is an enchanting experience that you will never forget! In Coron, fireflies come out and fly around the mangroves at night, creating a luminous show.

But it doesn’t stop there. The natural illumination continues when you look down and dip your hand in the water, creating a magical trail brought about by the bioluminescent plankton.

You can avail of this through Calamian Islands Travel and Tours. The tour is inclusive of buffet dinner, transfers, and kayak fees. Note that they don’t do private tours, only group tours.

We tried taking photos and videos but it’s just too dark. But it is similar to what’s happening in this video. Not the same, but close to it.

Joiner Tour: P950 per person Tour Duration: Pick-up at 6:00 PM. The end of the tour and return to the hotel is at 9:30 PM.

15. Parasailing

calamian tourist boat association

This is a thrilling way to see and experience Coron. If you want to see panoramic views of the natural riches of the area from above but don’t want to sweat it out by hiking up a mountain, you can opt to strap yourself up and parasail. Feel the wind embracing you as you appreciate the breathtaking scenery up in the air.

There are many parasailing packages offered in Coron. You can go solo or experience with your friends or family by booking the double flyer or the triple flyer. You can also check Klook’s All-In Watersports Experience if you want to try other watersports aside from parasailing.

16. Water Sports

Aside from the island-hopping tours, there are lots of water sports activities in Coron. Each operator offers different packages with varying inclusions and/or combines them with other tours or activities. Choose the best that suits your preference, budget, and itinerary. Some of the options are:

17. Culion Island

calamian tourist boat association

Also part of the Calamianes, Culion Island is another day trip destination from Coron. Isolated from the rest of the world for almost a century, Culion has endured the stigma associated with being the biggest leper colony in the world.

Finally declared a leprosy-free area in 2006 by the World Health Organization (WHO), the island town is slowly rising as a tourist destination. Getting there is quite challenging as that route is yet to be developed, so the crowd volume is way fewer than the neighboring Coron and Busuanga.

Some of the places to visit are the Culion Museum and Archives, Culion Church, Aguila Viewpoint, Balanga Falls, San Ignacio Farm, Pulang Lupa, and diving/snorkeling sites. The first three are usually part of the Culion Town Historical Tour .

Island hopping tour usually includes Malcapuya Island, Banana Beach, Bulog Bulog Beach, Bogor Marine Park.

Getting There: You can charter a private boat via the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The office is located at Lualhati Park, just behind the public market. The rates depend on the number of passengers and the itinerary. Note that because the price is quite steep, it is best for big groups. Alternatively, you can join a group day tour from Coron. This is a much cheaper option if you don’t plan to stay overnight on the island.

If you are planning to stay overnight, the cheapest option is to take the passenger boat from Coron. Only one trip per day per way. The departure time from Coron is 1:30 PM. The trip back to Coron is scheduled at 7:00 AM the next day. The travel time is about 90 minutes. Note that this schedule might change, depending on the weather condition and other reasons.

Rates: P3000/1-4 pax, P3500/5-8 pax, P6000/10-15 pax (Private Boat Roundtrip); Approximately P1200 (Day Tour from Coron); P180 (Passenger Boat Fare + P20 Terminal Fee)

18. Coron Town Tour

Coron is not just about island hopping and beach activities. The town center also has some attractions for those interested in seeing how the locals go about their lives. Here are the usual stops:

calamian tourist boat association

  • Public market
  • Souvenir shops
  • Lualhati Park
  • St. Augustine Church
  • Maquinit Hot Springs
  • Mount Tapyas

Some tours include a stop at a cashew nuts factory.

Although it is entirely possible to do this tour on your own — most stops are accessible by tricycle and on foot — it’s best done with a guide, who can explain the significance of these places to the locals.

Rates: Maquinit Hotsprings P200 (Entrance Fee); P350 (Roundtrip Tricycle Fare); FREE (Mount Tapyas Entrance) Coron Town Tour: P700 – P1,600 per person. Check the itinerary and inclusions before booking.

If you want to join a group tour, you can book Klook’s Coron Town Half-Day Tour. Usually, Klook offers discounted rates for tour packages.

19. Shipwreck Diving

calamian tourist boat association

The battle between the US Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1944 at the height of World War II resulted in about a dozen sunken warships at the bottom of Coron Bay. These shipwreck diving spots are just a short boat ride from the mainland and are within recreational diving depth. The colossal wartime vessel wrecks are said to be some of the best-preserved in the world.

Some of the popular wrecks are the Irako, the Olympia Maru, the Okikawa Maru, the Kogyo Maru, the Akitsushima, and the Morazan. There are many dive operators in Coron Town, so you will have no problem booking a diving tour here.

20. Seafood Galore

Because Coron is a world-famous island destination with very few food sources, expect the food to be quite pricey. Yes, even seafood! If you are eating at restaurants, the price range for a meal is P150 to P400.

To give you an idea, the P150-meal at a proper sit-down resto is composed of a cup of rice and a small serving of a Pinoy dish like adobo, tapa, or liempo. If you want to binge on seafood, the price of grilled seafood is around P200. For fruit shakes, the price is P100 to P120.

calamian tourist boat association

Some of the restaurants we tried are:

  • La Morena Cafe
  • Carl’s BBQ
  • Kawayanan Grill Station
  • KT’s Sinugba sa Balai
  • La Sirenetta

The locals also recommend Santino’s Grill and Amigos’ Smokes and Grill .

That said, there are still many carinderias and other budget options for those traveling on a shoestring.

Note: Most restaurants and cafés are operating only during lunchtime and dinner time. Lunchtime is from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and dinner time is 6:00 PM onwards.

1. The Ultimate Island Hopping Boat Tour in Coron

On this adventurous tour, you will visit the most popular spots on Coron island.  You will swim in blue lagoons, snorkel among a shipwreck, and hike to an epic viewpoint.  Every tour organiser will offer a version of the ultimate tour, and although the locations and order may vary slightly, this is what a typical itinerary looks like.

  • 8.30am – Pick Up from Hotel
  • 9.30am – Boat Departs

Siete Pecados

Kayangan lake.

  • Twin Lagoon
  • Smith Beach – Lunch

Skeleton Wreck

  • 5.00pm – Arrive back at port

Kayangan Lake is one of the most famous locations on the Ultimate Island Hopping Boat Tours, and not without good reason. Here you can dive into a crystal clear freshwater lake, encompassed by beautiful limestone formations both above and below the water. Honestly, it’s one of the most beautiful locations in South East Asia and very well looked after by locals and tourists alike. Let’s hope it stays that way.

calamian tourist boat association

Siete Pecados is one of the most popular snorkelling spots in Coron. Its name translates to “Seven Sins,” and legend has it that seven sisters once drowned here, forming the seven islets you see today. When we snorkelled here 2 years ago, the area was teaming with tropical marine life and healthy coral reef. Although, I’ve heard some negative reviews recently that a lot of the coral is damaged from boats and tourists. Nevertheless, be wary of jellyfish and sea snakes in these parts – Charlotte was stung here. But would we do it again? Absolutely!

Twin Lagoon Coron

Next up on the Ultimate Tour is Twin Lagoon – another breathtaking swimming spots made up of 2 dazzling lagoons. A narrow tunnel connects the two lagoons, and it feels quite adventurous passing through. There are also fewer people in the second lagoon, so if you’re confident in the water I definitely recommend you check it out.

Island Hopping Coron - Twin Lagoon

Skeleton Wreck is one of the coolest spots to explore on an island hopping tour in Coron. Here you’ll find a 25m long Japanese ship that was hit by an airstrike during WWII. The highest point of the ship sits at just 5 metres below the surface, so you can easily see it by snorkelling. Or the freedivers among you can dive down to get a closer look. The entire wreck is encrusted in coral, so you’ll get an eyeful of some beautiful fish at the same time.

Your final stop on the Ultimate Boat Tour Coron will generally be on CYC Beach, or another of the pristine beaches surrounding Coron Island. Either way, it’s the perfect end to a day of adventurous island hopping, where you can relax and reflect on the day.

Private Boat Tour in Coron

Is the Ultimate Island Hopping Tour for me?

The Ultimate Island Hopping in Coron tour is a great choice for anybody who may have limited time in Coron and wants to tick off all of the popular spots.  It is also suited for adventurous travellers who enjoy being active.

The tour isn’t for you if you are looking for a relaxing experience away from the crowds.  It is a full-on day of moving from place to place, and each stop tends to be very busy.

Furthermore, if you are an Instagrammer and what to bag some shots for the ‘gram, this tour is definitely not for you either. To avoid the crowds you can organise a private boat tour which I cover further on down the article.

How much does the Ultimate Tour cost?

The price varies depending on the tour company; however, you shouldn’t have to pay any more than 1500PHP/pax.  This should include a buffet lunch & use of snorkelling equipment, so be sure to check this in advance.

*Tip – We recommend hiring a private boat to beat the crowds! Read our section on private Island Hopping Boat Tours in Coron below.

2. Island Escapade Island Hopping Boat Tour Coron

A far more laidback experience in comparison to the ultimate, the Island Escapade island Hopping Tour includes a visit to 3 of the most beautiful islands within the Coron archipelago.  We absolutely loved this tour as we had never seen such immaculate beaches in our lives at this point. It was also far less busy than the Ultimate Tour, with fewer boats at each of the stops.

Admittedly, we spent quite a long time on the boat moving from island to island on this tour; however, we enjoyed kicking back and taking in the astonishing views.  Besides, it’s not a bad life cruising around on a boat, is it?

Although most tour companies will offer their own version of the tour, here is an example of what the itinerary will look like.

  • 8.00am – Collection from hotel
  • 9.00am – Depart from port
  • 10.30am – Arrive at Bulog Island/Sandbar
  • 12.30pm – Arrive at Coco or Banana Island – Lunch
  • 2.30pm – Arrive at Malcapuya Island
  • 5.30pm – Arrive back at port

Bulog Island Sandbar

The first stop on our Island Escapade Tour was the mesmerising Bulog Island sandbar. A sandbar was another first for us, and boy, we weren’t disappointed. Thankfully, we were the first to arrive before any of the other boats. We strolled hand in hand along the dazzling white sand bar snaking through turquoise waters like we were the only people in the world. It’s one of those places that makes you wonder how nature could possibly be so beautiful. There’s also a viewpoint on the actual island which is worth a climb too.

calamian tourist boat association

Banana or Coco Island for Lunch

After spending some time on Bulog Island, you’ll take the short journey to Banana Island or Coco Island for lunch. I don’t think it matters which one. Both are equally beautiful. But we can personally vouch for Banana Island which was possibly one of the most stunning lunch views we’ve ever had. Our guides prepared a delicious feast for us including seafood, veggies, fruit and other treats.

Malcapuya Island

After lunch, we made our way to Malcapuya Island, which we both agreed is one of the highlights from all our time Island hopping in Coron. Picture a palm-fringed white sand beach, nestling dazzling clear waters, and you’ll get an idea of how idyllic this beach. Combine that with the fact it’s almost secluded, and you have right there, the epitome of Paradise.

MALCAPUYA ISLAND - ISLAND HOPPING IN CORON, PHILIPPINES

Is the Island Escapade Tour for me?

If you want a taste of ‘real’ island hopping in Coron, it doesn’t get much better than this!  The islands on this tour are exactly what you envision when you think of the Philippines … Paradise.  Therefore, if you’re a sun worshipper seeking a chilled out day on the beach (or 3), this tour is for you.

This tour isn’t for you if you are looking for something a little more adventurous.  Other than relaxing on the beaches and the boat, you won’t find much else to do on the islands.

How much does the Island Escapade tour cost?

Price varies depending on the company; however, if you shop around, you shouldn’t have to pay anymore than 1800PHP/pax.  This should include a buffet lunch & use of snorkelling equipment so be sure to check this in advance.

Tip – We recommend hiring a private boat to beat the crowds! Read our private boat tour section below.

3. Black Island Boat Tour in Coron

The most spectacular in all of Coron and our favourite island by far cannot currently be reached by an organised tour. Black Island is so incredibly pristine and untouched that we were in two minds whether to tell anybody about it. BUT we love you guys, and we know you will respect the island, so here we are.

Have you ever heard the saying that the toughest of roads lead to the most beautiful destinations?  Well, Black Island is proof that it’s true.  From the tremendous black cliffs that dominate the landscape to the world-class snorkelling among flourishing marine life, everything about the island is truly extraordinary; however, you should be prepared to go out of your way in order to get there.

To learn more about this incredible island, and the details of how to get there, be sure to check out our article: A Guide to Black Island in The Philippines

5. Private Island Hopping Boat Tours in Coron

Island Hopping Boat Tours in Coron has become increasingly popular in the past couple of years; therefore the organised tours can be very busy.

We personally preferred to hire a private boat, especially for the busier islands.  This allowed us to leave earlier in the morning to miss the crowds, and we could pick and choose the locations we wanted to visit.

If you can find a group of 4-6 people, we found it to be very cost-effective. You only need to ask around at your hotel or hostel and you can quickly make up the numbers.

How to Book a Private Island Hopping Boat Tour in Coron

To book a private boat tour in Coron couldn’t be any easier.   If you walk toward the boat port in Coron Town, you will be inundated with offers from local boat owners.  However, we personally recommend using the official office listed as ‘ CALAMIAN TOURIST BOAT ASSOCIATION ’ on google maps.

How Much is a Private Island Hopping Boat Tour in Coron?

The price of the boat will depend on the locations you want to go to and how many people are in your group; however, we have attached an image of the rates card below so you can get a rough idea.

You will also need to consider entrance fees for most locations on top of the price of the boat, which is included in the price when you book an organised tour. Further down I list the entrance fees for the most popular locations so you can get an idea of how much your tour will cost in total.

You should also bear in mind that lunch and snorkelling equipment is not included with private boat tours unless you pre-organise with the captain.  There are, however, plenty of places by the pier where you can pick up everything you need.

Entrance Fees for Private Island Hopping in Coron

Remember you’ll need to pay each entrance fee on the day of your tour, so be sure to have the cash on your otherwise you won’t be able to enter.

How to Book an Island Hopping Boat Tour in Coron

To book an island-hopping boat tour in Coron, you can organise through the dozens of tour operators in Coron Town.  Alternatively, you can sometimes organise through your hotel or hostel.  It does, however, pay to shop around in order to get the best price.

What do I Need to Bring?

1. reusable water bottle.

It is no secret that single-use plastic is causing irreversible damage to our ecosystems, it is therefore imperative that as travellers, we try to minimise our consumption as much as possible.

We always carry a reusable water bottle and you will find that most hotels or hostels have a refill station.  Not only is it better for the planet but you’ll save cash too!

We Recommend: Stainless steel Insulated Water Bottles

2. Versatile Walking Shoes

When going on any backpacking adventure, we always carry some versatile walking shoes with us.  We personally love the 2 in 1 shoes by  Aleader  as not only can we wear them hiking, but they act as water shoes too!

We Recommend:   Aleader 2 in 1 Hik ing Shoes .

3. Go Pro Adventure Kit

If you want an action camera that is durable and safe to take in the water, then look no further than the Go Pro.  Small, lightweight, and easy to handle, you really ought to carry one of these with you on any backpacking adventure. Check out  our full photography travel kit.

4. Quick Dry Microfiber Towel

We Recommend:  Microfiber Travel Towel

5. Waterproof Bag

To keep your phone, camera, and any other electricals safe and dry.

We Recommend:  Waterproof Dry Bag-10L/20L/30L

  Responsible Island Hopping in Coron

It should go without saying; however, when enjoying your boat tour in Coron,  it’s important to be mindful of the environment .  It is no secret that some of our planets fragile ecosystems are at risk of extinction.

There are many small steps you can take to becoming a  responsible traveller.   In the meantime, here are some tips for your boat tour.

  • Be careful with any rubbish that it doesn’t fly overboard.  Keep it secure until you can dispose of it properly.
  • Do not leave anything on the islands, or take anything away – unless you’ve purchased it from a local supplier.
  • Wear  Reef Safe Sunscreen.
  • Try to avoid touching coral, marine life or anything underwater… unless it’s plastic, help keep our oceans clean.

Where to Stay in Coron

Hostel – Hop Hostel – Hop Hostel isn’t only the best hostel in Coron, it is the best hostel we’ve stayed in throughout our entire travels.  The dorm beds are more comfortable then our bed was at home and the facilities are top-notch!  Another highlight is the rooftop bar boasting the best sunset view in town.

Budget Private – Ecocio Eco Hostel – If you don’t mind simple accommodation, Ecocio Eco Hostel offers super cheap private rooms in the heart of Coron Town.  This eco-resort boasts a garden, private hammocks, and a bbq area.

Luxury – Sophia’s Garden Resort – For a touch of luxury in Coron, Sophia’s Garden is our top choice.  Our friends treated us to a couple of nights here for my birthday and we loved the onsite swimming pool and restaurant!

Coron Boat Tours: The Ultimate Island Hopping Guide!

Coron is one of the most beautiful islands in Southeast Asia. This guide gives you all the information you need for island hopping in Coron!

Trying to find the best Coron Boat Tours? Here is everything you need to know and which tourist spots to visit while island hopping in Coron!

Coron is a bustling tourist town in the Palawan Municipality of the Philippines and an ideal place to begin any tropical getaway. We loved island hopping in Coron, dashing between the top tourist spots in Coron and around Busuanga Island.

The island hopping in Coron is legendary.

Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, and Malcapuya Island are just a few of the unforgettable places to visit in the area, and it’s really easy to book affordable Coron island tours to see them all!

These memories hold a special place in our hearts and we can’t wait to return and see some of the lagoons and islands of Coron that we didn’t have time for.

In this article, you can find everything you need for a holiday in Coron.

We will show you the best tourist spots in Coron, where to eat, where to stay, and other important travel tips for island hopping in Coron!

In A Hurry?

—> This is our favorite island-hopping tour in Coron! <—

Island Hopping in Coron: What to Expect

Island hopping is easily the best thing to do in Coron and primary reason for visiting!

Just a short boat ride away from Coron Town Proper are tons of lagoons and beaches that are straight out of a movie. Before we get into which island-hopping itineraries you have to choose from, let’s tackle a few logistics.

Where to Book an Island Hopping Tour in Coron

There are three agencies we use to book tours online. The best practice is to check all three, but anything recommended in this article is the best value we have found across all platforms.

The booking tools we usually use are; Get Your Guide , Viator , and Klook

calamian tourist boat association

how much is an Island Hopping Tour in Coron?

Public Tours range from $35-$50 per person and they almost always include a BBQ lunch.

Private tours are a little more expensive at $75-$100 PER BOAT. So depending on how many people are in your group, this could be more or less expensive per person.

Our recommendation is to spend the extra $10-20 for a private tour. If you are a couple or a group, the extra flexibility is absolutely worth it. You have a personal guide, a chance to create your own itinerary, and can stay as long as you would like at each destination!

Public boat Tours vs. Private Boat tours

Private tours and public boat tours are each available in Coron. They both have their pros and cons, as well as a variety of island-hopping itineraries.

Public Boat Tours in Coron

Public Boat Tours in Coron (sometimes called “shared tours”) are very similar in price and often overlap in destinations. There are a set number of stops on each tour, and guests have roughly 45 minutes to explore each tourist spot in Coron.

  • Free pick up and drop off at your hotel in Coron Town Proper.
  • Buffet Lunch on the beach.
  • Snorkeling gear included.
  • Share the boat with 10-20 other travelers.
  • Only 30-45 minutes at each location.
  • The destinations are crowded when you arrive (other boats follow a similar route).

A public shared tour is certainly the best option for those traveling solo through the Philippines or looking to travel on a really tight budget.

Private Boat Tours in Coron

While a public tour is great, there is no question that private boat tours in Coron are significantly better.

  • You can start as early and get to popular destinations before the crowds.
  • No time limit at destinations. You choose your pace.
  • Personal guide with insider tips for the best island hopping experience.
  • Usually, you need to rent your own snorkeling gear.
  • Usually, lunch is not included .

The biggest selling point for us was that it’s actually very inexpensive if you are traveling as a couple or in a group. Our private island hopping tour in Coron cost just $10 more than two tickets on a public (shared) tour!

We also appreciated the flexibility of the private tour. We arrived at Kayangan Lake by 8 am with less than 10 people there. By the time the shared tours arrived (9-10 am), the lake had hundreds of tourists snorkeling and taking photos.

Island Hopping in Coron: the best itineraries

Travelers choose from a few different popular island-hopping itineraries in Coron. Some focus on lagoons. Others prioritize snorkeling or sun-kissed beaches.

These are the most popular tours in Coron.

calamian tourist boat association

Coron Super Ultimate Day Tour – Best of Coron

The Coron Super Ultimate Day Tour breezes through the top destinations in Coron. It is the best itinerary for those who don’t have a lot of time in Coron. Stops vary slightly, but the majority of tour groups take you to

  • Kayangan Lake & Barracuda Lake
  • Twin Lagoon
  • Skeleton Wreck
  • Siete Pescado ( OR Coral)
  • Lunch @ Banol Beach ( OR CYC Beach)
  • Beach 91 ( OR Malawawey Beach)

This tour is easily the best value for your money, but it’s also the most popular (which mean expect crowds!) A lot of stops also means you have less time to explore each destination, but if you are on a time crunch, this is the best way to see the most famous places in Coron.

Looking for the best day tour of Coron?

—> CLICK HERE for the Coron SUPER Ultimate Day Tour! <—

P.S. Make sure to book the tour with “ super ” in the title. The Coron Super Ultimate Day Tour is a different itinerary with less destinations for the same price.

Coron Tour A – Top tourist Spots

This option has a nice blend of snorkeling and beaches. All of the stops on the itinerary for Coron Tour A are close to town and popular places to visit on Coron. You will get to visit;

  • Coral Garden
  • Lunch @ Atawayan Beach
  • Secret Lagoon
  • Siete Pescados
  • Kayangan Lake

This is very similar to the Coron Super Ultimate Tour. But since there are less stops, the prices is slightly cheaper for tourists coming to Coron on a budget.

Coron Tour B – coral Reefs & Snorkeling

Lovers of snorkeling and coral reefs will find their match with Coron Tour B. This tour visits four different snorkeling destinations in a single boat tour.

  • Barracuda Lake
  • Lunch @ Banol Beach
  • Reef Garden

If you book a shared tour, this itinerary will include a stop at Banol Beach for lunch. Usually lunch is a seafood BBQ with rice, fruit, and other small snacks.

Coron Escapades Day Tour (tour C) – Remote Beaches

The Coron Escapade Tour focuses less on snorkeling in lagoons and prioritizes seeing the best beaches around Coron. If you take this tour, you will get to spend time on three beautiful beaches.

  • Malcapuya Island (Lunch)
  • Banana Island
  • Bulog Dos Island

These beaches are very remote, which is why the tour is only able to visit three of them. While Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon are just 20-30 minutes from the port, it take about 2 hours to reach Malcapuya Island.

Coron Tour D- Reefs & Wrecks

This tour visits Lusong Island to snorkel through coral reefs and explores the Lusong Gunboat Shipwreck. Ultime Siete Pescados, this entire shipwreck is less than 10 meters depth, so you can see everything without being an experiences free diver.

A brief stop for lunch at Pass Island is included in the shared tour.

How to hire a private boat in Coron

Creating A Personal Island Hopping Experience

Contrary to El Nido, private tours are equally available and affordable for couples or groups traveling to coron Coron. Almost any of the above tours can be booked either as a shared public tour ($20-40 per person) or a private tour ($80-120/boat).

calamian tourist boat association

You can book a private tour of all the above itineraries, or create your own itinerary. If you love one of the itineraries above, but just want a more personal and flexible twist on them, you can book these private tours online.

Booking online is very easy, but if you want more flexibility, you can wait and book in person at the Calamian Tourist Boat Association ! It’s smart to get a boat situated the day before in order to leave at dawn!

The price for a private boat is 2700 PHP ($55) +100-200 ($4) per person per stop. So if you visit 4-5 different places, here is what to expect!

  • 2 people – 2700 + 1000 PHP = 3700 PHP ($75)
  • 3 people – 2700 + 1500 PHP = 4200 PHP ($85)
  • 4 people – 2700 + 2000 PHP = 4700 PHP ($95)
  • Additionally, you should tip your guide about 250-500 pesos afterward.

3D2N Island Hopping from Coron to El Nido

There are some multi-day island-hopping tours available from Coron that we dream of doing someday!

These longer tours are able to vist some of the most untouched beaches and remote places in all of Palawan! Usually, you will find them all-inclusive, with meals cooked fresh on the boat and glamping sites set up to spend the night on the beach in comfort.

One of the most popular companies to book with is Big Man Boat Tour . They offer tours from Coron to Coron, Coron to El Nido, and El Nido to Coron.

If you have the extra funds, this is the absolute best way to see the Philippines!

How to Island-Hop Responsibly

Here are four ways to decrease your footprint on the earth and take care of the protected areas you visit while island hopping in Coron.

  • Buy a Reusable Water Bottle – The GRAYL Geopress Water Filter is the best filtering water bottle on the market. With each reusable filter, you can filter 65 gallons of water from anywhere in the world!
  • Don’t Touch the Coral – Sometimes in Coron, the coral is only a few feet deep, so it’s difficult not to bump into it. Just do your best to avoid touching the corol and definitely don’t stand or walk on the coral beds.
  • Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen – If you go island hopping in Coron, you will see the damage that’s already been done to some of the coral gardens. While snorkeling, be sure to use a reef-safe/reef-friendly sunscreen. All-Good Sport Sunscreen is what we prefer.
  • Support Local Companies – A lot of local tour groups, restaurants, guesthouses, and other businesses in Coron have really struggled during the pandemic. Be kind, tip well, and use locally-owned companies as much as possible while traveling in Coron.

What to Bring to the islands

The best way to pack your belongings for any island hopping in the Philippines is with a dry sack. A Dry sack is a waterproof, floating bag that keeps all your belongings safe while on the boat. Typically they come in a variety of sizes (from 5L-30L).

You can buy one when you arrive, but we recommend purchasing one before you go to save some stress.

This is everything we put in our dry sack for a day of island-hopping in Coron.

  • Go Pro Hero 8 black
  • DJI Mini 2 Drone – When we visited the Philippines, we didn’t have a drone yet, but looking back we regret not investing in one sooner. Some of our favorite photos these days are taken with our drone!
  • Goggles + Snorkel (also possible to rent)
  • Waterproof phone sleeve
  • Quick-dry Towel
  • External Battery Pack
  • Charger Cables for all out technology
  • Reef Shoes (NOT provided with Tour)
  • Reef Safe Sunscreen
  • Small First Aid Kit
  • A Little Cash – there are small vendors on some of the beaches (specifically Pasandigan Cove and Paradise Beach).

Where to stay in Coron

Make sure you stay somewhere in the heart of Coron Town Proper. This will put you within walking distance of everything. Taking a tuk-tuk everywhere can be a hassle at times. Spend $5 extra a night, and you’ll save $5 a day on tuk-tuks!

These are some of the top-rated places to stay in Coron in 2022 (one for each budget)!

Other Common Questions about Coron

Is busuanga the same as coron.

Busuanga and Coron Island are separate islands. Coron Island is uninhabited, so all visitors find accommodation on the island of Busuanga, then travel by boat across the Coron Passage to Coron Island during the day. The town in Busuanga is called “Coron Town Proper” (confusing, right?).

If you fly to Coron, the airport is technically on Busuanga. The airport is tiny but inexpensive to fly into from other popular cities in the Philippines. Once you arrive, Coron Town Proper is a short 30-minute drive along the coast.

calamian tourist boat association

Is Coron Palawan Expensive?

The island of Busuanga (where you stay to visit Coron) is more expensive than other areas of Asia, yet still affordable and has a lot of budget options.

Overall, you can expect to pay an average of $40-70/day per person. This includes a hotel, boat tour, 2-3 meals, and transportation around Coron.

How to Get Around Coron

There are hardly any cars in Coron. Instead, everyone gets around with motorbikes, tuk-tuks, fast boats, and vans running to/from the airport

Getting from the Airport to Coron Town Proper

It takes roughly 40 minutes to get from Francisco B. Reyes Airport to Coron Town Proper. The best way to travel is by hitching a ride on a shared van.

It is possible that your hotel will provide free pickup/drop-off at the airport. We found this more common in Coron than in other places we’ve been in Asia.

But, if your hotel doesn’t offer to pick you up, you can arrange a van transfer online or simply join one of the vans departing the airport on arrival. The airport is super small, so it is not difficult to navigate a ride to town when you arrive

P.S. The vans wait until they are full to leave, so you’ll have to be patient.

Hailing a Tuk-Tuk (Tricycle) in Coron

Hailing a tuk-tuk/tricycle in Coron. Just stick your arm out while an empty one is passing. A tuk-tuk is about 50 pesos ($1) to get from the outskirts of Coron proper to the main port and about 100 pesos ($2) to the dock where ferries depart for El Nido

Renting a Scooter in Coron

The only time it makes sense to rent a scooter in Coron is if you are NOT island hopping for a day or two. The boat tours generally go all day, so there is no need for more than a tuk-tuk transfer to your hotel. Plus, most restaurants are walking distance from the port.

We wanted to spend one day exploring Busuanga, so we found a place right in Coron town called Boyet Motorbike Rental . The prices here range from 300-500 PHP ($6-10), depending on how many hours you would like to rent the scooter.

Getting from coron to El Nido

There are a few ferry services that leave from Coron at different times of the morning & afternoon. Going earlier is always better so that you still have some daylight left in El Nido.

This article details everything you need to know about the fast ferry to El Nido, but if you are in a hurry, you can book a fast ferry HERE!

Generally, the ferry will take 3.5 hours and cost 1800 pesos ($36)

How Long Should I Stay in Coron?

Ideally, you should set aside 2-3 days in your Philippines itinerary for Coron. There isn’t much to do and see around the town itself, so you will be taking boat tours every day.

Two private boat tours are perfect for seeing all the major areas of Coron, then you should make your way to either the beaches of El Nido or Southern Cebu for the rest of your trip.

What’s The Best Month to Visit Coron?

The best month to visit Coron is definitely March. The island has warm weather and warm seas all year round, but the summers are always rainy. To avoid the rain, book your trip to Coron between November and April (the best months being Jan and March).

Is Coron Better than El Nido?

Coron and El Nido are two island-hopping hotspots in the Philippines, and they are so close to one another that it is worth visiting both while traveling to the Philippines.

El Nido is definitely more established and has more options for tourists outside of island hopping. You can find exciting restaurants/bars, beaches along the coast, shopping, and even a few waterfalls. You can even kayak to 14 different beaches from El Nido.

Coron, on the other hand, is better for a short excursion. There isn’t much going on in town, so we would find it boring to spend a week or two here.

As long-term travelers, we enjoyed that El Nido has more variety than Coron, but if you have time for both, we recommend spending 5-6 days in El Nido and 2-3 days in Coron.

Where to Go Next?

As we just mentioned, you should either take a boat to El Nido or hop on a flight to Cebu for more adventures in the Philippines.

In El Nido, don’t forget to rent a kayak for the day. This is easily the most memorable experience from our visit.

We really loved Cambais Falls in Cebu, Swimming with Sardines, and spending a couple of days in Oslob .

That’s everything you need to know! Coron is one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited, and we hope that this information will help you enjoy the islands a bit more!

Another hidden wonder in Coron island is Kayangan Lake. The lush vegetation and unbelievably transparent waters of the lake make it a breathtaking sight to behold. Surrounded by majestic limestone walls, the lake is an oasis of serenity and natural beauty.

Malcapuya Island

If you’re looking for paradise on earth, Malcapuya Island is a must-visit destination. With its pristine white sand, swaying palm trees, and crystal-clear waters, this island is a true gem of the Philippines.

Ship Wrecks

For those interested in scuba diving or snorkeling, the Sunken Japanese Wrecks are a must-see. When to go to Coron:

Coron and Calamian Islands are fantastic destinations that can be enjoyed all year round. However, the best time to visit is during the dry season , which runs from November to early May. During this period, the weather is sunny and pleasant, making it ideal for outdoor activities such as island hopping, snorkeling, and diving. Keep in mind that the dry season is also the peak tourist season, so hotel rates may be higher than usual. If you plan to travel during this time, it’s best to book your accommodation in advance to avoid any last-minute surprises.

If you’re traveling in the wet season from June to September, you may encounter some storms, especially in July and August. Despite the occasional storms, Coron and Calamian Islands are rarely hit by super typhoons, making it a relatively safe destination to travel to.

CORON PALAWAN TRAVEL GUIDE | Itinerary + Budget + Map [UPDATED 2020]

Coron Travel Blog Guide Itinerary Budget Map

Coron , a town in the province of Palawan, is one of the most sought after destinations in the Philippines. And you can easily understand why. It has pristine white sand beaches, unbelievably turquoise waters, rich marine life, World War II shipwrecks, and karsts-dotted landscapes that can rival the best that the world has to offer. Often referred to as the country’s Last Frontier , it is located on the upper region of Palawan, 595 kilometers from Metro Manila. Coron is the perfect destination for casual vacationers, hardcore backpackers, beach lovers, and adventurous divers. Once you’ve visited, coming back for a second time is really something you won’t need to decide on—Coron would automatically make that decision for you.

UNDERSTAND CORON

Coron is located on the northernmost region of Palawan. It’s not part of mainland Palawan, and is actually on Busuanga Island—which is divided into two towns, Busuanga on the north and Coron down south. Included in the municipality of Coron is Coron Island—where most of the island hopping destinations are—and a few more islands and islets. Coron is where it’s happening. It’s where most hotels, restaurants, and tourist spots are. Granted, Busuanga has also its share of island hopping destinations. Note that there is actually no beach in Coron Town, to get to the beaches, you’d have to avail of island hopping tours. Culion, which is also toured by most people going to Coron, is not actually part of Coron or Busuanga. It’s a separate island municipality all its own. The best time to visit Coron is during the dry months of the year, which is December to May—which is also the Amihan season in the Philippines.

HOW TO GET TO CORON

The easiest way to get to Coron is by taking a plane from Metro Manila. There is also an option of taking a ferry, but it would take an overnight ride before you arrive. Once you reach Busuanga Airport, there are vans that carry passengers to town for ₱150.00 per head—or ₱1,500.00, should you want to rent the whole vehicle. The ride to town takes about 45 minutes. Contrary to popular notions, there are no easy ways for tourists to hop from El Nido and Puerto Princesa, two of Palawan’s tourist hubs, to Coron.   I just found that there are now numerous ferries than sail back and forth from Puerto Princesa and El Nido to Coron.

HOW TO GET AROUND CORON

Coron Transportation

Tricycles are the main mode of transportation in Coron. The ones in town are larger than usual and can easily seat up to eight persons for a minimum fare of ₱10.00 per head. During my visits, I noticed how honest the tricycle drivers are in Coron, always giving my change up to the last centavo. Habal-habal or single motorbikes are also available for rent for those wanting to explore Coron on their own.

CORON TOURS AND GUIDES

Exploring the town of Coron won’t really require a guide since it is quite small and limited when it comes to places to visit. But once you go out and explore the numerous islands and beaches that dot the area, a tour guide/boatman is a must. During my visits to Coron, I have always relied on the first boatman/guide I hired when I was new to the place. He was recommended by a staff at a local restaurant and has proven to be quite reliable, accommodating, and easy to deal with. Alternatively, you can also book your tours thru the hotel you’re staying in, but at probably a higher price. Or you may also visit the Calamian Tourist Boat Association near Lualhati Park to get a boatman to tour you around the islands. Note that the island hopping fees include only the boat rental, guide fee, and tour pass. Entrance fees to the islands and beaches are not included.

WHERE TO STAY IN CORON

Accommodation is really not a problem in Coron except during summer time. The town is host to numerous inns, lodges, hotels, and island resorts. These range from backpacker-friendly to flashpacker kingdom-come rates. The main town has no beach area, so lodgings are limited to sea-view rooms. One, however, can opt to stay on island resort types, but be warned, it does come with a hefty price tag. Alternatively, one can also stay at the town of Busuanga where a handful of mid-range to luxury resorts are located. The area has its own set of island hopping tours.

WHERE TO EAT IN CORON

Coron is paradise for food lovers. There are numerous restaurants along the town streets that deciding where to eat sometimes becomes a problem. The place has burger joints, pizza and pasta restaurants, grill houses, seafood places, bars, and the usual cheap carinderia eateries. There are, however, no fast food restaurants in Coron, which is a good thing really, as it gives the town a very local vibe that’s somehow missing from most of the popular tourist spots in the Philippines.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN CORON | CORON TOURIST SPOTS

Tourist spots in Coron can be divided into five main categories; the town tour, the island hopping adventure, the Culion tour, the safari, and the wreck diving activities. The town tour can be done in half a day. For the island hopping adventure, it would take at least one full day for the Coron Island Loop and another one for the Malcapuya Loop . A trip to the municipality island of Culion would take almost the whole day, similar to the safari tour of Calauit Island (unless you plan on visiting a few more islands right after). For wreck diving, I imagine it would take several days to complete all eleven World War Two Japanese wrecks around Coron (I haven’t tried this out yet). A note on the Coron Island Loop, there are some variations of this tour depending on where you really want to go as a group, but usually the tour consists of five to six locations for the whole day.

Coron Town Tourist Spots

WHAT TO BUY & WHERE TO SHOP IN CORON

There are numerous souvenir shops in Coron, most of them offering the usual triad of tourist t-shirts, ref magnets, and key chains. The designs are usually similar in every store but there are a few notable boutique shops selling more unique and creative designs. Besides cashew nuts and cheap seafood, be sure to bring home a few Tagbanua-inspired wood carvings native to the island.

CORON SAMPLE ITINERARY & TRAVEL BUDGET GUIDE

I stayed for five days the first time I visited Coron and found it to be the perfect duration for a first time visitor. Four days can cut it, but you’ll have to leave out visiting the Calauit Safari Park or the Culion Island tour. For those with a very tight schedule, the usual three-day weekend tour of Coron can also be possible, but you definitely have to come back again as you really can’t explore most of what Coron has to offer with such a limited time. The last day can usually be adjusted to fit in a half-day tour, depending on the time of your flight (the latest one is at 5:05pm via Philippine Airlines, as of this writing), you just have to leave really early and make sure your guide understands what time you need to be back at the airport. The risk is, of course, all yours. As for the expenses, touring around the town of Coron is fairly inexpensive as most of the tourist spots within town are walking distance of each other. Food is also fairly cheap, with lots of choices from carinderia eateries to restaurants. The cost for your Coron tour, however, starts to pile up once you avail of island tours (especially the Calauit Safari). It gets really expensive if you rent a boat all by yourself, but if you’re willing to share a boat with other travelers, the fees become relatively affordable (check the table for tour fees above). Feel free to customize this itinerary by choosing only the island hopping tours you want to suit your own travel budget.

Ang galing ng PP ng first photo, jaw dropping Ü

Thanks Kath, medyo konting PP lang yan, sakto ang ilaw pagdating namin sa Twin Lagoon eh :)

Note that another good way to get to Coron is by multiday boat tour from El Nido, such as with http://www.islandhoppinginthephilippines.com/. This way you'll get to see the many jewels between: tons of paradise beach islands, mostly deserted, excellent snorkeling in the clearest waters in the world, caves to explore and so much more.

Thanks for that, Karel! :)

grabe very comprehensive! ang galing mo talaga sir. idol!

Haha salamat Atty. Balik tayo ng Coron!

Ang gandaaaa ng post na to! Thank you sir!

Thanks Patrick, I hope my Coron guide proves helpful :)

Grabe ang galing ng travel guide na to Christian! Will definitely use this when I go to Coron in December. Super thanks! ^__^

No problem Milet, you definitely won't get disappointed with Coron :)

Thanks for sharing this itinerary. Very helpful for my a future trip!

No problem Ian, always glad to help out. Enjoy Coron!

Hello! Meron po ba na budget hotels/accommodation na may beach na po? Tnx

Hi RRAR, yes there are accommodations on beach areas, although they are on the islands and not in town. And they're a bit on the expensive side. :)

Hi Christian! I know its been almost a year since this post but i just wanted to ask how long it took you to travel from Coron Town to the Malcapuya island loop tour? This has been the most detailed itinerary i've found online so far!

Hi, from the town of Coron, it takes about an hour and a half to travel to the Malcapuya tour. Hope this helps :)

Hi Christian ..i just wanted to know ..how much will be the budget for your 5 days itinerary? thank you!!

Hi, there are actually so many variables to consider, like how many are you in the group, where you're staying, where you plan to eat, etc. But you can actually guess the total cost of your trip by reading the linked articles I posted along with the rates for the hotels you plan to stay in. :)

Hello Christian, is your boatman still in business?

Yes, Avel is still touring people around Coron island :)

This comment has been removed by the author.

Galing ng pagkakagawa ng blog. Kudos to the author :)

Salamat Itsicy! Have you visited Coron's tourist spots yet? :)

This is very informative. Really useful. Next time you visit Coron, you might want to check our place as well: One Averee Bay Hotel. It's just right in the middle of town :)

Hi, will try and contact you if ever I go back to Coron :)

You have beautiful photos! I love Coron! The beaches, the lakes, the very hospitable locals especially the very helpful boatmen. I make sure to go back to Coron at least once a year. I always book with Ultimate Coron Experience 0918-465-9010 for the boat rental because of their excellent service and kind staff. Highly recommended!

very reliable blog. Kudos!

Thank you! Hope you found it useful in planning your Coron trip :)

How much did everything cost?

Hi Kristine, I don't usually put in a budget as every traveler has his or her own way of spending their money. Everything would depend on where you're gonna stay, where you're gonna eat, how many times, what kind of meals and where you would plan to go. You can actually compute your Coron budget yourself using the guide as the hotels, the tours and the restaurants (if you click the link) have prices on them. :)

Wow, this blog is very helpful. I'm happy I found this blog.

You're welcome Ena! Enjoy your trip to Coron :)

How can we contact Avel? :)

Here's his number: (0939) 815-0044 | (0932) 363-7207 :)

Hi Christian, would you know kung ilan and capacity ng bangka ni Avel? We are a group of 7. Thanks.

Hi Anna, they have a boat for a Coron island hopping tour that can accommodate 10 persons :)

Hi Christian, about Linapacan, meron bang public boat ferrying the place. Tsaka ano ang best month to go there na less waves.

Hi Edwin, I'm not sure about a public ferry to Linapacan, but there are tours going there from Coron (check the table I posted above) :)

Thanks Christian, would you know how much he charges to rent his boat? Does he goes with the standard rates?

Hi Anna, yes, standard Coron boat rates :)

Hi Christian, Thanks for this post. It's my first time to be the one making an itinerary. So I need all the help I can get. With the Coron Island tour, do I just contact the cell phone numbers of the boatmen? So I'll pay them through them right or do I have to go to an office first or something? How do I meet with them too? Do the tricycles reach their meeting area?

Hi, yes you pay them directly. I have not dealt with the Coron boat tours association yet, but Avel is reliable enough for me.

Hi Mr. Christian, thank you for this very informative blog. I would like to ask a few questions and contact you personally..although posting it here will also help others, especially for a first-timer like me. I am DIY-ing our tour next week. Yes, i know, i'm sorry it landed in a holiday (it was supposedly a multi-day hike at the mountains in Palawan but I became pregnant so here I am). You think it's feasible to have PPS-EL NIDO-CORON or vice versa for 9days? I have read some other blogs but (not to pat yourself on the back) yours is the most informative so please please please help me, sir Christian. They dint mention Atienza Lines but this one ferry that charges different rates for Fil.citizen and foreigners 1500 & 1800'repectively to and fro EL NIDO-CORON/ CORON-EL NIDO? Thank you!

I think it is feasible, but would be totally hectic. My advice, do the PPS-El Nido tour for nine days and plan the Coron trip separately. That way, you get to enjoy the place more. As for the foreigner rates for Atienza Lines, I believe they do charge the same rate for both locals and foreigners. :)

One of the best itinerary posts Ive ever seen. Comprehensive and organized. Thank. You.

Thank you, hope you have a grand time in Coron :)

hi po I would like to ask kung magkano yung naging expenses nyo for this tour? Thank u so much

Hi, will post a budget update for Coron soon :)

Kumpleto at informative! Salamat and pls update if possible

Yes, will update the Coron Guide soon!

Wow very informative blog. Just want to ask ur suggestion if san pde pmnta while waiting for my friend? He will arrive at 1:00am in airport but im already at the airport by 7:30am. upon his arrival dun plng kc kmi mgcheck in s Busuanga Seadive Resort. Thank you.

i mean 1:00pm

I advise that you go straight to Coron town after arriving at the airport. Wala kasi makikita near the airport. Once at the town, you can climb Mt. Tapyas. Leave your things at the hotel muna. :)

slamat s reply... gusto nia kc umakyat kmi sabay dun s hapon pra s sunset.. heheeh.. hndi pko pde mgcheck in ng maaga s hotel pra mgpahinga nlng sana mna ko.. heheh

Hello = Do you know if there are lepers on Culion?

Hi, there are no more lepers in Culion.

Hi, sorry I don't have the name of the Calamian Tourist Boat Association president

Sir christian, saan makakapag book ng tour? calauit at coron island tour? mag diy lang kasi ako ng tour christmas gift ko sa gf, pero january pa ang travel date.

Hi, you may book the tours either via your hotel or the tour guide and boatman I recommended above. :)

Very helpful for budget travelers! THANKS Christian!

No problem, enjoy Coron!

Hello, sir. How long is the travel time from town to the safari park and vice versa? Is it by land or sea?

Hi, you can do it by land or by sea. About two to three hours one way, if I remember correctly.

I love your blog sir.. Very informative specially for budget planning. I am looking into celebrating our anniv. There.. thanks a lot and god bless.

Hi Mailyn, Coron can be very romantic!

Hello Sir Christian! ask ko lng po same rate entrance fee sa mga island sa kids? 10 and 4y.o? Thank you!

Hi, as far as I know kids are paid in full for the Coron Island entrance fees. However, I think you can haggle with the ticket collectors to lower the fees for them.

Hello Christian, Thanks po sa blog nyo, nakapa detailed at super helpful for us first timers to go in Coron. Two thumbs up! Yung boat po ba ni Avel can accomodate at most 10 people and same rate po ba? Thank you. :)

Yes, Avel does have boats that can accommodate ten persons. Check the table above for the boat rates :)

We will celebrate my son's birthday at Coron, Palawan. My husband and I are still deciding whether we will avail the package offered by UltimateCoronExperience.com/ 09184659010. For 12, 843, we'll get hotel accommodation, round trip airport transfers, private boat service, boatman and tour guide fees, Coron town tour, island hopping tour, island entrance fees and permits, breakfast, picnic lunch and snacks, as well as life vests, mask and snorkel. We will in Sunz En Coron since they have their own pool. Do you think the price is good?

It is a bit expensive, but I guess it is much hassle free than doing and organizing everything on your own :)

Thanks for your useful guide. I'm gonna visit Coron in the next few days, but I still wonder staying at hotel located in Conception, is it convenient to take a island tour in Coron due to long distance away. Can you give me advice about transportation?

Concepcion is indeed quite far from Coron Town. It's actually in Busuanga and not Coron. Anyways, they also have island hopping tours coming from that area. What you can do is coordinate your tour with your lodging owner.

You've got one of the greatest travel blogs. Thanks for your very useful guides. Any, which would you suggest for big group customized tours, contacting directly a local boatmen or arranging it with the calamian tourist boat association?

Hi, thanks so much. For big group tours in Coron, contacting the boat operator I recommended above or the Calamian TBA, are both okay. I guess what you xan do is contact both, then compare their fees. :)

Hi. Are the boat tariff rates is as of June 2017? Heard there was an increase po. Thank you so much.

Hi there, updated the Coron tour boat rates :)

Thanks for updating your Coron travel guide! :D Big help sir! :)

Salamat Mujee! More updates about Coron soon :)

Iba talaga 'to si master! Bookmarked!

Salamat, ma'am Celine! Have you been to Coron yet? You should go!!! :)

Thank you for the update. Just a question, if you will which side to get a window seat to get a good view of Coron up there, is it left side or right side? Thank you

I mean if you will choose... Thanks

Hi, you mean the best view of Coron from a plane window, right? As far as I can recall, both sides of the plane has good view of Coron from above. My tip, get the seat that's won't be against the light of the sun, easier for taking photos :)

Great article! If you're going to Coron Sep 15 - Dec 15, 2017, you should take advantage of Sunlight Guest Hotel's promo! Check it out at https://www.unitop.com.ph/site/article_detail/id/21! :D

This is such an awesome and comprehensive article regarding Coron's best spots! I've been planning to visit Coron since last year but I never really had the chance to complete the saving and planning process. At first, I want to do a DIY trip but when I see Ultimate Coron Experience's tour package (http://www.ultimatecoronexperience.com/ultimate-coron-tour-packages-2/) it made me want to go for a tour package instead. Do you think it's better to go on a DIY trip or just book a tour package?

Tour packages are much more convenient, but if you're looking to save some money, do it DIY :)

Thanks for the detailed guide! I intend to use my 5-day off to travel in the Philippines, but now I don't know to choose between Palawan and Coron. Which one is more beautiful and convenient to reach?

It depends what you want, you may check this link for a comparison of Coron and El Nido: Coron Vs El Nido

wow, this is such a detailed article on what looks like an absolute dream of a destination! I keep coming across this region of the Philippines as a go-to destination, especially for diving wrecks such as the Tangat Wreck (https://dive.site/explore/site/tangat-wreck-46Kg). your tips on the budget are really helpful, thank you for putting this together!

Thanks! Enjoy Coron!

Hello! I'm planning to go to Coron next month and I stumbled upon Ultimate Coron Experience's tour packages (http://www.ultimatecoronexperience.com/ultimate-coron-tour-packages-2/). I just want to know your input if the 3D2N Ultimate Coron Sulit Tour is good enough considering the inclusions of the package? Any inputs will do :)

Sorry for the really late reply

An extremely useful and in-depth article! Thanks!

Thanks! Hope you find my Coron itinerary useful!

CORON: TOURS AND ATTRACTIONS

calamian tourist boat association

Coron and the towns of Culion and Busuanga provide tourists with distinct destinations that are beautiful in their own ways. If you just want to get to any place in town, a tricycle can take you for just about P10.

If you plan to explore the different islands and Coron’s most famous attractions, you can do it by private or joiner tour.

GROUP TOURS . If you are traveling alone or just two people, this is an ideal option because you’ll share costs with others. These are easy to find; some accommodations will offer packages or the many travel agencies in town.

  • Advantages: Once booked, you don’t have to stress yourself about the itinerary, food, and transportation. All you need to do is pay before the day of the trip. You also get to meet other travelers, whether foreign or local.
  • Disadvantages: The itinerary is set and the guide will determine the time spent at each destination.

PRIVATE BOAT. For those who want more control over their itinerary, a private tour is the best option. The first thing you need to do is go to the Calamian Tourist Boat Association to book a boat. You can find their office near Lualhati Park. There are standardized rates that depend on boat size, attractions included, and the number of passengers.

A private tour can be cheaper if you’re a big group of friends or family. We’ll use the Coron Island Tour as an example:

  • P2,700 for a boat that accommodates 2-4 people
  • P3,250 for a boat for 5-8 passengers
  • P3,800 for a big boat for 9-15 persons

You’ll save more money if you’re group is more than 10.

  • Advantages: The guide and boatman will suggest an itinerary, but you have full control of what you want to do and how long you will stay. You can customize, and add or remove places during your trip. Large groups will save more money compared to joining a group tour.
  • Disadvantages: The rates listed are only for the boat. The guide fee (P500), entrance fees per stop, and food aren’t included. Bring cash to pay for everything and buy food and drinks for your trip. The boatmen and guides can buy the ingredients for the meals for you.

The tours listed below are some of the most well-known in Coron; the trips cover the famous spots. The inclusions may vary so discuss with your chosen operator about food, snorkeling gear, or other things you may need the day you book your excursion. The rates displayed are based on March 2017 prices these may change depending on the travel agency.

You can see links below that direct to Klook tours in Coron. However, booking through third-party sites tend to be more expensive compared to booking on the spot. We would recommend looking for tour packages on the island during your trip as these don’t add an extra layer of fees. But if you’ve been booking with Klook and other sites before and are satisfied with their service, don’t let us stop you.

If you want to get a private tour or DIY, the rates and fees are in the photo caption. For those joining a group tour, you don’t have to pay extra for attractions as these are already part of the package you got.

Coron Island Tour

Joiner Tour: P1,500-P1,800 per person (all inclusive) Charted Boat: P2,700 for 2-4 persons; P3,250 for 5-8 persons; P3,800 for groups of 9-15 persons

calamian tourist boat association

This is the tour you’ll most likely do during your trip; joining a tour group costs about P1,500 to P1,800. However, if you look for more operators around town, you might even find one that offers the Coron Island Tour for just P750! BUT, there is a huge price gap because the cheaper alternatives don’t include Twin Lagoon and Kayangan Lake in the same itinerary. Some travel agencies include one or the other and add other destinations nearby.

The lake and the lagoon are two of the best attractions in Palawan (not just in Coron). The former is the iconic picture you’ll find online whenever you make a quick search. The latter has emerald, glass-like waters that are so clear you wouldn’t know how deep the water really is. If you don’t have much time, get the tour that includes both, even if you have to pay more.

The other attractions included in the itinerary aren’t so bad either. The coral garden and Siete Pecados Marine Park are good places to snorkel and free dive up to a certain depth. You’ll get to see a part of Palawan’s vibrant underwater ecosystem. The multi-colored corals come in various shapes and sizes, and you’ll also see different fish species. The beaches have fine white sand and clear turquoise waters. Laze on the beach and cool off by wading or swimming before heading back to town or onward to your next stop.

You won’t regret paying more to include the best sites in one itinerary. You may end up paying the same amount (total) if you book two different tours on separate days to see either Kayangan Lake or Twin Lagoons. If you’re vegetarian, tell the operator the day before your trip so that they can order food for you.

Joiner Tour: P550+ per person

calamian tourist boat association

One of the highlights of the Coron town tour is Mt. Tapyas; the latter is a fixture of the town’s landscape. It towers over its surroundings at 210m high; those who aren’t outdoorsy don’t have to fret. There are more than 700 concrete steps that lead all the way to the peak. There are many paved decks with some chairs to sit on whenever you stop to rest. Some locals dash up to the top and down again for exercise; you can do the same if you’re a fitness buff.

The cross at the top is another distinguishing feature of the mountain. Mt. Tapyas is also the best place to watch either the sunset or sunrise; the golden rays of the sun will turn the blue skies into a haze of orange then into a sharp red.

It is possible to get to Mt. Tapyas without booking a tour, you can charter a tricycle to take you or walk all the way.

Another noteworthy destination included in the town tour is Maquinit Hot Springs. The latter is the perfect place to relax and unwind after exploring the nearby islands or going up and down Mt. Tapyas. The hot waters revitalize and rejuvenate your tired body. This destination is quite far and may take half an hour by tricycle from the town center. If you just want to go to the hot springs, a tricycle can take you for about P350 round trip. There is also an entrance fee of P200 per person.

The itinerary may include some souvenir shops, discuss with the operator about inclusions and stops for your trip. You don’t have to book a tour to explore the town, you can visit places on your own by chartering a tricycle or even walking to some places. Maquinit Hot Springs is the furthest destination; you’d have to rent a motorcycle or trike to get there unless you want to walk for a long time.

Calauit safari park tour.

Joiner Tour: P2,500-P3,000/person Private Tour: P9,300 for 2-4 persons; P10,400 for 5-8 persons; P17,000 for 15 persons

calamian tourist boat association

If you join a tour, you can go by land or sea.

If you go by boat, here are the places you’ll go to:

  • Calauit Safari Park
  • Black Island
  • Lusong Coral Garden and Gun Boat Wreck
  • Pamalican Island
  • Other stops: North Cay, South Cay

We recommend taking the boat tour over the land trip. Black or Dibutunay Island are often not included in the land tour. Both have fine white sand and clear turquoise waters. The idyllic backdrop of both is perfect for beach bummers who want to forget the stress of work and the hustle and bustle of the city.

If you choose to go by land, the itinerary will consist of 2 – 4 places listed below; however, it will depend on the operator you booked with. Review the inclusions first before booking:

  • Concepcion Falls
  • Malbato Chapel
  • North/South Cay

Whether you take the boat or land tour, a trip to Calauit is worth the money and the time it takes to go there. The safari may not be the same as in Africa, but it still provides you with a unique experience. You’ll see and maybe even get a chance to feed giraffes, watch zebras, and see the distinct landscape that has allowed such animals to survive in a country like the Philippines.

The coral garden offers you a glimpse of the underwater beauty of Coron. You’ll see various corals and fish swimming about if you go snorkeling.

If you want to use Klook for this tour, the attractions include in the itinerary are the safari and North Cay or Pamilacan Island. We’ve been to both of the last two mentioned, and we were more impressed with Black Island. You’re better off going to the latter.

Culion Historical Tour

Group Tour: P1,300 per person Private Boat: P3,500 for 2-4 persons; P4,000 for 5-8 persons; P6,000 for 9-15 persons

calamian tourist boat association

If you’re looking for a different kind of trip other than the usual beaches, lakes, and lagoons, Culion is a destination to consider. Some of the attractions of this former leper colony include the Culion Museum and Archives, Culion Fort, and the La Imaculada Concepcion Church. As you explore the town, you’ll see vestiges of the leper colony. You can also go up Agila Hill to get to the viewing platform.

Malcapuya Island Tour

Group Tour: P950-P1,700 per person Private Boat: P4,350 per 4 persons; P5,450 for 8 persons; P7,100 for 15 persons

calamian tourist boat association

This tour is also known as the Island Escapade Tour or Beaches Tour. The itinerary includes Malcapuya Island, Banana Island, Bulog Dos Island, while some packages also go to Malaroyroy Island.

This excursion is perfect for those who enjoy beach bumming, swimming, and doing nothing on a beautiful island. The islands have fine white shorelines with varying degrees of softness. They are perfect idyllic backgrounds for photos on Instagram or print and online publications. You can spend an hour or so just wading in the waters, getting a tan, taking photos or videos, and enjoying the company of newfound friends or old ones. The beaches are also big enough to find a quiet spot away from the crowds.

Malcapuya is a highlight when doing this tour; the island has powdery bone-white sand and azure waters. There are also viewpoints where you get to see the cove and the surroundings. Bulog Dos is another beach with soft white sand (a recurring cliché in Palawan, but in a good way) and rock formations dotting the shore. Banana Island is just as beautiful as the two with similar characteristics.

The trip to these islands can get bumpy even in the summer; it can also take up to 2 hours.

Lusong Shipwreck and Bulog Dos Tour

Itinerary Inclusions: Lusong Shipwreck, Lusong Coral Garden, Bulog Dos Island, Pass Island Joiner Tour: P1,600 per person

calamian tourist boat association

This tour is for those who want to see more corals and various fish species during their vacation. The shipwreck is a good place to go free diving or snorkeling, you’ll see corals and various fish as well when you get close enough to the wreckage.

Sangat shipwreck tour.

Itinerary includes: Sangat Gunboat Wreck, Decalve Marine Park, Sangat Hot Sprints, Kalitang White Beach Private Tour: P3,500 for 4 persons; P4,000 for 8 persons; P6,000 for 15 persons Joiner Tour: P950 to P1,500 per person

Coron has wreck spots where you can see sunken ships during the war. There are also many coral gardens and marine parks that have various, colorful corals and fish. This is a tour you can book to see new attractions you haven’t gone to before.

Fireflies and Planktons Tour (with Buffet Dinner)

Joiner Tour: P950 per person Inclusions: Buffet dinner, transfers, and guide and kayak fee Pick-up at 6pm, 9:30pm end of the tour and return to the hotel *FYI: you can’t book a private tour

We can’t help but gush with excitement every time we bring this tour up. We highly recommend you book this excursion during your trip to Coron! The experience was spectacular, stupendous, magical, and (insert superlatives here, LOL). We enjoyed the fireflies, but what made the difference was the bioluminescent plankton.

Every time you dip your hand in the waters, it will glow! When our boatman tapped the side of the boat, the waters will sparkle and create a fantastic light show. We were so mesmerized with what was happening. It was too dark to take any decent pictures or videos. Anything captured by a camera doesn’t do this tour any justice; it’s the kind of thing you’d have to experience.

Great boat and great views

We chose the first class lounge on the boat and were treated excellently by the staff on board. The meal and wine we selected were superb and the service excellent. The surroundings and furnishings on board were very fine.and most comfortable. If you want a memorable evening that gives you the best views of Moscow take the first class option and enjoy the service and fare offered..

The "Zoshima Shashkov" was our boat, and we booked the cruise through "Express to Russia" i have been in touch with them, did hear back, but no explanation as to why we were treated so poorly, and there were others who had booked independently who were treated the same. very clean boat, but so disappointing, I would not advise any one to book independently as we did, customers who booked as a group seemed to be well catered for and really looked after, we were left to fend for ourselves.

I cruised around 8pm. , I think you can see the light and feel relax. You can order vary kind of drink and food. I think seafood has some smell but spagetthi menu is ok. Draft Beer is sour, I dont know why? Alcohol price is pretty high .

Nice trip, especially the early night cruises with the sunset. Specially with this boat company was that you could (and should) bring your own drinks with you

This wonderful trip had been on my bucket list for years, and had been something that my (late) husband and I had begun to look at prior to his life ending illness. Fortunately for me when I enquired I found that this cruise still had a 'special fare for 1 week'. It was, 'waiving the single supplement'. This made me decide on the spot to go ahead with plans and I used some of that 'saving to upgrade my self into a cabin with a balcony'. It was also made easier because it was almost 9 months prior to my leaving date. I was collected from the airport and from the moment I stepped on board there was absolutely nothing that I could fault with the journey. On day two of the River Cruise I slipped in Moscow in the rain and broke my arm. The ship's management arranged for me to attend a medical clinic, where it was decided that I could continue my journey with my arm immobilised and having regular checks at St Petersburg and London (which was all part of my extendedUK/ European tour but of course not all on the Cruise). The entire staff on board were amazing and helped me with the 'little things' - tying up shoe laces, helping me put on a jacket and kitchen staff cut up meat on my plate. (I just couldn't manage any of these items). I only paid for 2 extra trips whilst on board, with all the included ones (at least 1 every day) being not only beautifully scenic, but historically interesting as well. If I decide to travel on another River Cruise, I will defintely be looking to book with Uniworld..

As part of Dinner in a congress in Moscow, we visited the Moscow River and a cruise with a dinner on the go, along with live musice and fire-works had been pre-arranged. It was a most pleasing experience and we enjoyed the top deck, with live music adding to the impact. We could easily and convincingly appreciate all the important land marks without having to go to the trouble of getting stuck in traffick for hours. The food was served as a multi-course dinner and the quality was excellent. However, the staff on duty had no match... so courteous and so polite... and efficient. We enjoyed the event to the fullest and the end of the cruiser actually was felt like a saddening turn. Anyway, overall it was a great and very enjoyable experience.

Depending on the itinerary and duration of the Moscow River boat trip, the tour can be 3 or 5 hours.

Highlights of the tour

  • St Basil’s Cathedral;
  • Stalin skyscraper on Kotelnicheskaya (Tinkers) embankment;
  • The Kremlin;
  • “House on the Embankment” Stalin skyscraper;
  • Monument to Peter I;
  • The Central House of Artists;
  • Christ the Savior Cathedral;
  • Gorky Park;
  • Moscow State University;
  • Russian Academy of Sciences;
  • Luzhniki stadium;
  • Novodevichy Monastery;
  • Kiev railway station;
  • Europe Square;
  • Moscow City Hall;
  • Government House;
  • Expocentre Exhibition Complex;
  • and other famous sights.

You will learn about the different epochs of the city from the foundation in 1147 till Soviet times of 20 th  century.

Moscow River

Moskva river has the form of a snake and is the main waterway of Moscow, consisting of a cascade of reservoirs. Within the city, Moskva river is 80 km long, 120 m - 200 m wide and up to 14 m deep. The narrowest part of the river is the Kremlin area in the city center, and the most extensive is around the Luzhniki Stadium in the south.

Bridges in Moscow

Undoubtedly, bridges and embankments are among the most scenic spots and main attractions of Moscow. Plus, they are so romantic.

  • Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge –  Great Stone Bridge –  is the main bridge of Moscow . The first stone bridge was constructed here in the 17th century.
  • Patriarshy Bridge  is one of the youngest pedestrian bridges, built in 2004. The bridge connects the iconic Christ the Saviour Cathedral with funky Bersenevskaya embankment, extremely popular place among locals for its trendy art galleries, cafes and panoramic views. Patriarshy Bridge used to be a shooting location for ex-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's New Year speech to the nation.
  • Borodinsky Bridge,  erected in honor of the 100th anniversary of the glorious victory in the Battle of Borodino (which every Russian kid knows about), a fierce legendary battle during the Russo-French war of 1812.
  • Bagration Bridge  one of the  pedestrian bridges with most picturesque views of the Moskva River with its numerous upper-level observation platforms. The bridge was erected to celebrate the 850th anniversary of Moscow city in 1997.
  • Krymsky Bridge  used to be in Top 5 Europe’s longest bridges some 100 years ago. The bridge got its name after the ancient Krymsky ford which Crimean Tartars used to invade Moscow in the 16 th  century.

Embankments of Moscow

Moscow river boats 37 embankments, the most popular being Kremlevskaya, Sofiyskaya, Pushkinskaya, Vorobyovskaya and Kolomenskaya.

You can get the most spectacular views of the Kremlin from  Kremlevskaya and Sofiyskaya embankments.

  • Pushkinkaya embankment  is the most romantic in Moscow. It meanders along Gorky Park and Neskuchnyi garden and is rich for all kinds of entertainment as well as cozy nooks, including Olivkovy beach, the famous Zeleny theater as well as a pier for river cruisers.
  • Vorobyevskaya embankment  is part of Sparrow Hills nature reserve. This place opens a beautiful panorama of the river and city from the observation deck and is considered to be the place for taking serious decisions in life.
  • Embankment in Kolomenskoye  Museum-Reserve has a special charm due to its peculiar geographical relief. The boat trip around Kolomenskoye would be the most peaceful in your life.
  • Taras Shevchenko embankment  is popular among photographers for its modern Moscow City skyscrapers. Highly recommended for your night boat trip.
  • Embankments of Moscow are the pride of the capital. A distinctive feature of each of the promenades is its architecture and beautiful views. In addition, almost all the embankments of Moscow have a rich history and a lot of notable buildings.

Different epochs

Taking a walk along the Moskva River by boat, you will witness the architecture of Moscow from different eras and styles. Archaeological studies indicate that already in the XI century there stood a fortified settlement on Borovitsky hill, which is now called the Kremlin. Little fortress could not accommodate all the residents of the rapidly growing city, and the Grand Duke ordered the construction of a new Kremlin, larger than the former.

Boat trip around Kolomenskoe Park

Moscow river boat trip starts from the pier Klenovy (Maple) Boulevard and provides reat views of Nicholas Perervinsky monastery.

Nicholas Perervinsky monastery was founded at the time of the Battle of Kulikov (1380). The monastery, got its name from the surrounding area – “Pererva”, which can be translated like “tear off” and because of the location –  here it abruptly changed its course, turning to Kolomna, standing on the opposite bank.

Nowadays Kolomenskoye is State Art, Historical, Architectural and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve, which doors are open to everyone who wants to get in touch with the ancient history of Russia.

Take a break from the big city hustle in the shady parks and gardens of the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. Don’t miss a wonderful Church of the Ascension and Tsar Alexey’s Palace in Kolomenskoye!

Monasteries and temples

  • Novospassky Monastery
  • Founded in the 13th century on the site where now is located the Danilovsky monastery. After a few decades, in 1330, Ivan Kalita moved the monastery onto the Borovitskii hill of the Kremlin. However, in the 15th century, Spassky Monastery again moved, this time to a more spacious place on Krasnoholmskaya waterfront.
  • Church of St. Nicholas in Zayaitskom
  • Erected in the middle of the XVIII century in baroque style. The building survived after the 1812 fire, but the utensils were destoyed. Parishioners collected donations and restored the temple on their own. In Soviet times, it was closed and re-opened only in 1992.
  • Cathedral of Christ the Savior
  • The church was originally erected in honor of the victory over Napoleon and was being under construction for long 44 years. Notoriously demolished in 1937 to be a giant swimming pool under open sky. The current building was constructed in 1990s. It is the tallest and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.
  • The temple was built in 1679-82, during the reign of Tsar Fedor Alekseevich, in late Muscovite Baroque style and can be characterized as bonfire temple. Each gable is a symbol of a heavenly fire.
  • Novodevichy Convent
  • The most famous concent and monastery in Moscow, presumably founded in 1524. Novodevichy’s status has always been high among other monasteries, it was in this monastery where the women of the royal blood, the wives of Tsars and local rulers of Moscow were kept in prison as nuns.
  • St. Andrew’s church  (male acts as Compound Patriarch of Moscow)
  • St. Andrew’s church stands right on the slopes of the Sparrow Hills, on the way down to the Moskva River, on the territory of the Nature Reserve “Sparrow Hills”. The monastery is small in size but is very cozy. It’s situated in a quiet courtyard surrounded by temples, fruit trees and flowers.
