Introducing the PRW-7000 Series, the new addition to the PRO TREK lineup of outdoor watches. True to the PRO TREK spirit, this new watch is designed to be tougher, more functional, and easier to use. The digital compass has an auto level correction function that helps to make readings more accurate. A sapphire crystal with anti-glare coating on the surfaces improves both durability and readability. Tough Solar . The CASIO Tough Solar System is now so advanced that even the weakest light sources are sufficient to operate the watches. The solar cells are so small and inconspicuous that they can be integrated easily into every watch face design. An accumulator in solar watches saves “superfluous” energy and releases it when the watch is in darkness. The accumulator is charged automatically and does not require manual activation.

RADIO WATCH TECHNOLOGY . The advantages of radio-controlled watches are obvious: Once they have been set to the relevant time zone, they always display the exact local time. All CASIO radio watches receive signals almost anywhere in Europe. Some models even receive signals in North America, parts of Canada and Mexico (the radio tower in Fort Collins sends signals for a radius of up to 3200 km) and even in Japan or China. In Europe, the change from summer to winter time is also completely automatic.

SMART ACCESS. Quick Access to Important Functions With its electronic crown, the innovative Smart Access system provides intuitive access to key functions. By rotating and pressing the crown, the user can switch between individual features such as the altimeter or alarm, and settings can be adjusted quickly and directly. The Smart Access system is protected by a crown switch locking feature, preventing the watch from switching unintentionally to another mode.

Triple Sensor . PRO TREK watches are equipped with the latest Triple Sensor, version 3 technology, making them even more accurate than before. Three highly sensitive, extremely small sensors measure with absolute precision and instantly display changes in your environment. The precision of the digital compass, altimeter, barometer and thermometer is only possible with the Triple Sensor technology. At the same time, the three layer sensor is 95% smaller and consumes 90% less energy than before.

Altimeter. For all those who set their sights high The built-in altimeter uses a pressure sensor to measure the current air pressure. The measured air pressure is then used to provide an “estimate” of the current altitude. The electronic mechanism in the watch is pre-programmed with “ISA values” (“International Standard Atmosphere”) used to convert pressure values into altitude values. The air pressure and temperature generally become lower as the altitude increases. These values define the connection between altitude, air pressure and temperature.

Barometer. The barometer measures the air pressures and displays tendencies in the weather. The higher a person goes (ascent/terrain), the lower the barometric pressure will be. An increase in air pressure usually signifies an improvement in the weather. A decrease in air pressure usually means that bad weather is on its way. The air pressure is displayed with an accuracy of 1 hPa (hectopascals). The barometer can measure and display a range from 260 hPa to 1100 hPa.

Digital Compass. The PRO TREK digital compass shows 16 compass points. The direction of magnetic north and the bearing are calculated by the compass’s directional sensor The directional sensor consists of two rectangular coils that detect slight tensions created by the earth’s magnetic field. Depending on the position and direction, these tensions vary in intensity. There is a non-magnetic resistance between the two coils, which absorbs the subtle changes in tension. With each new position, the values that are measured by the resistance change. A microprocessor converts the measurements so that they can be displayed clearly on your watch.

Thermometer. The thermometer is used to measure the outside temperature. The temperature is displayed with an accuracy of 0.1 °C. The thermometer can measure and display a range from -10.0°C to 60.0°C.

MOON PHASE DISPLAY . The moon moves through a regular 29.53 day cycle, during which it appears to become either smaller or larger due to the relative position between the earth, moon and sun. The larger the angle distance between the moon and the sun*, the more of the moon we see illuminated.n Europe, the change from summer to winter time is also completely automatic.

TIDE GRAPH DISPLAY. The tides refer to the periodic rise and fall of water in oceans, seas, bays and other bodies of water. This is caused mainly by the gravitation between earth, the moon and the sun. The tides rise and fall approximately every six hours. Always be aware of the tidal patterns . The watch can show the low and high tide phases for any given location or date. This can be quite useful, for example if you want to know the patterns of the tides at your destination in advance.

WATERTIGHTNESS. The watertightness of the CASIO watches complies with DIN 8310 and ISO 22810. These standards describe the various classes of watertightness and the test procedure used to determine watertightness. These standards apply to the general wristwatch usage. Watches with metre indications for watertightness cannot be used immediately in this water depth, however, as water resistance metre indications are merely a pictorial representation of the test pressure. A wristwatch withstands the impact of water at the static pressure specified on the watch (e.g. 10 bar) and the theoretical immersion in water to the specified depth.

I agree. Very few talk about it and the ones I see being discussed the most are the variants of the PRW-6000.

I have 6000 and it neat thing. Ditch smart crown and it could be easily the best Casio watch ever. I was surprised by how they made it close to analog watches opposite to digital turning analog in previous models. Casio been pioneering sensors in watches for a long time. At some point they took deliberate turn to be on more battery saving trend opposite to Suunto and Tissot which were more functional but less lasting. For what it worth Protreks have longest or thickest (if you got paper one) manuals among all Casio watches.

Arrived in record time from Japan to Toronto! cheers All features work perfectly and the watch looks fantastic especially in sunlight. the neon green accents are my favourite.

Nice functionality but with some limitations

Nice watches in general but some functions are strictly connected to your precise location. And at the same time you can not set the latitude more than 65 degrees to the North. Russia, Canada and Scandinavian countries have territories located more to the North.

While Casio’s G-Shock series has the extreme sports category on lock down, their ProTrek line is blazing a trail in the world of outdoor adventure.

While Casio’s G-Shock series has the extreme sports arena on lock down, their ProTrek line is blazing a trail in the world of outdoor adventure. The PRW-6000Y-1A ($500) is made for the aspiring ambler. In many ways, it’s about the most trustworthy, comely companion a beginning mountaineer could need.

For a watch so analog in appearance — its large dial is complemented by a smaller function dial on the face — the ProTrek carries with it a bundle of digital smarts. The brains rest in Casio’s Version 3 Triple Sensor technology, integrating an altimeter, barometer, and compass (ABC). Coupled with the trifecta is a thermometer, atomic timekeeping that keeps the ticks on track, and a solar-powered battery that gives infinite mobility without the need for a charge.

On the wrist, the watch wears comfortably, although its weighty presence isn’t easily forgotten. The carbon fiber band may seem gratuitous at first, but a band that ostensibly lives on forever is a good thing. The watch is water- and sweat-resistant and handles well on light swims , as well as during switchback hiking and light jogs.

Whereas most multifunction chronographs are more geared towards user-friendliness than ruggedness, the ProTrek comes off as a bit of a throwback to an earlier era — a time when users found pride in doing some squinty-eyed reading to decipher the manual. The how-to of the ProTrek’s 11 settings aren’t instinctive, but Casio’s directions are clear and eventually using the watch becomes intuitive.

The altimeter and compass get their own buttons and are at your ready disposal, making clear the watch’s intentions (finding your way while going up). In ascending and descending elevation the altimeter is decently reliable, but Casio’s own reminder to “perform regular calibrations” is apt. Altitude is calculated based on barometric pressure, and it often wasn’t pinpoint accurate. The compass was spot on during testing, even though Casio also caveats that “for serious trekking and mountain climbing” you’d be best to bring along a second compass to confirm. For $500, you’d probably prefer to not have to double-check.

The watch is smart, and it’s a solid workhorse. Small touches like Casio’s “hand shift” (the hands automatically move away from the digital display when using one of the functions) are good reminders that this timepiece is extremely intelligent; but features like the LED light — which gives just a pinprick of light at night — aren’t brilliant. For the watch’s price, I’d also be tempted to look for some of the perks of a GPS-capable watch, and a more visible digital display (Garmin’s trail wearables come to mind).

For the seasoned adventurer , the watch is a step short — there’s benefit from more precise equipment. But, for the layman who wants to track altitude, total ascents and descents (on the trail or when skiing the slopes), keep tabs on weather patterns, and always know the time, the watch is more than capable, and it’s got solid looks. And that is perhaps its best selling point: the watch encases modern tech features, but most importantly, those features encourage an interest in classic outdoorsmanship.

Casio Pro Trek PRW-7000FC-1B with Composite Band

Casio announced the Pro Trek PRW-7000FC-1B and PRW-7000FC-1BJF for an Asia and Japan release in July 2017. This black and white model is similar in looks to the recently released PRW-7000-8 , but that model was a dark gray color and had a light blue accent on the display, and this model has a composite band made of metal and resin parts. The PRW-7000FC-1B is one of the most straightforward PRW-7000 designs, offering a simple all-black color scheme with white hands and markers. A white luminescent coating is applied to the top of the hour markers, providing contrast for easy viewing outdoors and visibility in the dark. The reverse STN LCD display complements the overall dark look.

Though the Casio sites list this model as having a resin band, the model number (including “FC”) and photo show that this model has a composite folding clasp band like the PRW-7000FC-1 . The Japanese list price of ¥90,000 JPY suggests this is the case as well.

The Pro Trek PRW-7000 line a high-end line that is only available in Asia and Europe. Key features include Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 atomic timekeeping, 200-meter water resistance, Triple Sensor (with altimeter/barometer, compass, and thermometer), tide graph and moon age, fishing time function, sunrise/sunset data, sapphire display with non-reflective coating, and double LED light.
