Best Beaches in Cebu: Your Complete Cebu Beach Guide

Divert tourist capitals such as Boracay and Palawan and take the road less traveled to the wonderful island of Cebu. Home of the best tasting lechon and dried mangoes, Cebu hides a good number of tropical paradises. If you’re ready, hop on the next available flight, and let’s explore the best beaches in Cebu.

How to Get to Cebu

Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Philippines AirAsia have daily flights to Cebu from Manila. A one-way flight takes about an hour and 20 minutes. International airlines such as Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines, and SilkAir also have direct flights to Cebu.

Mactan Island

Mactan Island Cebu

Not a fan of long travels? Mactan is the best choice for you! It is the most accessible beach because it’s located within the city. In fact, the airport is on Mactan Island! Sandwiched between Cordova and Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan is home to a string of upscale resorts. Go ahead and choose a beachfront hotel , so you can lounge and sip on margaritas! You can also hire a small boat to go snorkeling or diving at nearby islands.

How to Get to Mactan Island

Hail any cab or book an Uber ride to any resort of your choice from Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

Camotes Islands

Camotes Islands Cebu

Sometimes called “The Lost Horizon,” its unspoiled beauty has captivated the first Spanish explorers the same way it has with both local and international travelers. No one can decline an invitation especially with its natural forests facing the white sandy beaches and blue waters. It is one of the best beaches in Cebu especially when you explore other islands like Ponson, Tulang, Pacijan, and Poro . If you have extra time on your hands, take a side trip to the largest lake in Cebu known as Lake Danao located at Pacijan.

How to Get to Camotes

From North Bus Terminal at Reclamation Area Cebu, take a two-hour bus ride heading up north to Danao Port. The bus fare costs PHP 40. From Danao Port, take the two- to three-hour boat ride to Consuelo Port in San Francisco, Pacijan Island. The boat fare costs PHP 200 for an air-conditioned ride and PHP 180 for a non-air-conditioned one.

PHILIHAPPY PRO TIP: Since ATMs are rare among these small provinces, bring adequate cash (as well as coins and small bills) with you at all times.

Bantayan Island

Bantayan Island Cebu

Somewhere in the northern tip of Cebu rests the beautiful Bantayan Island. Don’t confuse this with Daanbantayan; that is an entirely different island! Bantayan’s vast horizon captures its immaculate sand and translucent waters that it’s hard to believe that such a paradise exists. Alice Beach, Maricaban Beach, Paradise Beach, and Sugar Beach are the most popular ones on Bantayan Island. Hire a boat to explore other islands namely Cabulauan (Hilantagaan Island), and Virgin Island .

How to Get to Bantayan Island

From North Bus Terminal, ride a bus ride to Hagnaya Port in San Remigio. This 2.5-hour bus ride costs around PHP 170. Upon arrival, you’ll be required to pay an additional PHP 10 for the terminal fee. Hop on a ferry boat bound for Santa Fe. The one-hour trip will cost you PHP 170.

Malapascua Island

Malapascua Island Cebu

Situated at Daanbantayan, Malapascua’s white fine sand and remarkable beauty are often compared to Boracay. The sight of unspoiled beaches in Malapascua can probably make a blind man see again (no proof, though). Visitors flock to Bounty Beach , which is the island’s main beach dotted with resorts, cottages, and restaurants. Malapascua Island also made its name as one of the best diving destinations because of its richness in coral reefs, shipwrecks, and marine life.

If you’re an advanced diver, have an early morning dive at Monad Shoal , where the shy thresher sharks are popular sightings! If you’re in Bantayan Island, try to squeeze a trip to Malapascua to save time and money. However, if Malapascua is your main destination, charter a boat to the nearby Kalanggaman Island in Leyte !

How to Get to Malapascua Island

From North Bus Terminal, hop on a Ceres bus bound for Maya Port. Travel time is around five hours. This will cost you around PHP 190 for an air-conditioned bus and PHP 150 for non-air-conditioned. From Maya Port, ride a small boat to Malapascua (PHP 100/person).

Aloguinsan Cebu

Wander away in the rural town of Aloguinsan, Cebu ! This place is a popular weekend destination for locals because of its proximity to the city. If you wish to have a more secluded stay at Aloguinsan, opt for the Hidden Beach , a private beach resort concealed by coconut groves. If you want to see rich marine life and vast reef, be closer to nature at Hermit’s Cove . You can also go for their famous Bojo River Cruise and meander through magnificent mangroves.

How to Get to Aloguinsan

From South Bus Terminal, take a two-hour bus ride (PHP 70) to Toledo. Then, take a 30-minute jeepney ride (PHP 30/person) to Barangay Bojo or Aloguinsan. At Aloguinsan, ride a habal-habal to Hidden Beach (PHP 25/person), or take a 20-minute habal-habal ride to Hermit’s Cove (PHP 50/person).

Pescador Island Moalboal Cebu

Why go to Maldives when you can visit Moalboal in Cebu? It’s one of the best beaches in Cebu mainly because it’s a great snorkeling spot and it’s closer and less expensive. Be enchanted with Basdaku White Beach whose spectacular view combines the clearest of waters and the whitest of sand. Pescador Island , just off of Moalboal, has become another favorite diving destination because of its vibrant marine biodiversity.

How to Get to Moalboal

From Cebu South Bus Terminal, hop on a Ceres bus bound for Barili or Badian. Ask the conductor or driver to drop you off at Moalboal town. Travel time is around three hours, and it will cost you PHP 120 for the bus plus PHP 5 for terminal fee. At Moalboal, ride a tricycle (PHP 100) or a habal-habal (PHP 50) to Basdaku White beach where resorts are located.

Lambug Beach Badian Cebu

In the southwestern part of Cebu Island is Badian. Beachgoers often escape to a not so crowded Lambug Beach to get a taste of its white to cream colored sands (depending on the time of the day) and waters of varying shades of blue. If you’re lucky and go off-peak season, you’ll probably have the entire beach to yourself. At Kawasan Falls , explore nature in the most adventurous form of canyoneering! Safety gear is provided for activities like hiking trails, sliding down, jumping off from great heights, and of course, swimming. Its waters are in a magical hue of blue. Luckily, you don’t need filters for this one!

How to Get to Badian

From South Bus Terminal, ride a bus bound for Bato via Barili (Not Bato via Oslob). The trip will take roughly three hours and will cost you around PHP 120-147. Ask to be dropped off at Badian Public Market. From there, hire a tricycle or a  habal-habal to Lambug Beach. This will cost you around PHP 25.

Tingko Beach Alcoy Cebu

On the opposite side of Badian is Alcoy. Dig your toes into the beautiful white sand at   another one of the best beaches in Cebu known as Tingko Beach . Mirrored by the clear blue sky, the surrounding azure waters will make you want to jump right in to cool off the heat. Charter a boat and spend the entire day island-hopping in search of other paradises off the grid!

How to Get to Alcoy

From South Bus Terminal, ride a bus bound for Oslob. Ask to be dropped off at Tingko Beach in Alcoy. The trip will take around two hours, and the fare costs PHP 120. Just be prepared to shell out PHP 10 for the entrance fee.

Sumilon Island Oslob Cebu

Slow things down at Sumilon Island . The sandbar frequently “moves” around the island, which makes it attractive for tourists (and their selfies!) because no sandbar is ever the same. Also, the island is surrounded by greens and blue waters that make the white sand really stand out. Fall deeper in love with Oslob by swimming at the majestic Tumalog Falls !

While whale shark watching is a common tourist destination here, Donsol offers a more eco-friendly alternative .

How to Get to Oslob

From South Bus Terminal, take the first bus ride bound for Oslob. Travel time is three hours, and it will cost around PHP 155. For Tumalog Falls, charter a habal-habal ride for a round-trip fare of PHP 120 for two persons. For Sumilon Island, take a 15-minute boat ride (PHP 35/person) from Oslob Port to the island.

Who’d ever thought you’d find these amazing beaches? Everyone will fall in love with the best beaches in Cebu because there are so many low profile paradises tucked under her wing. Foreigners will be ecstatic because there are direct flights to the island without having to stop over Manila. The best thing about Cebu is that you can avoid the large crowds and if the gods are on your side, you can even have the entire beach to yourself!

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu, Philippines @shermansdreams

If you are looking for an amazing tropical getaway for your next holiday, Cebu should be one of those places on your radar. Located in the central part of the Philippines, it is an awesome place to spend your vacation. It may not get the same attention like other parts of the Philippines, but once you have seen some of its beaches, I think you too will fall in love with Cebu’s charms. Filled with plenty of activities and tourist spots from waterfalls to some fantastic diving it’s the complete package. What I love about this part of the Philippines are the awesome beaches. They easily compare to some of the best beaches in Asia and because they are not as well known, they are less crowded. For me, some of Cebu’s best tourist attractions are these amazing tropical beaches.

From my years of traveling around Cebu, I have compiled a list of my favourite beaches in Cebu. As I have mentioned in my video, lists like this are very subjective and not everyone will agree.  Keeping the list to just 10 means some worthy beaches will miss out.  With that said that here is my ultimate list of the top 10 beaches in Cebu :

  • 10 Days Itinerary in Bohol and Cebu, Philippines – Daily Itinerary, Things To Do
  • Rediscover Cebu, the Philippines With a Pleasurable Stay at Crimson Resort & Spa in Mactan

Table of Contents

1. Bounty Beach (Malapascua Island)

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu Philippines

One of most spectacular beaches in Cebu or even the Philippines for that matter. It’s a lovely stretch of white sandy beach on Malapascua Island (in Cebu’s north). This island became famous for the thresher shark dives which attracts divers from all over the world. You don’t necessarily have to be a diver to enjoy this piece of paradise, Bounty Beach is a beach lover’s dream. Swaying Palm trees, warm tropical clear turquoise waters and soft sand make it an ideal destination. If you plan to stay on the island, this is the place to be. There are a number of resorts, restaurants, and bars dotted along the beach. A great place to unwind, laze, or chill out with a cocktail and watch the amazing sunsets in this beautiful part of the Philippines. Bounty Beach makes for an awesome tropical getaway.

2. Paradise Beach (Bantayan Island)

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu Philippines

This aptly named beach on Bantayan Island is a gorgeous little spot that everyone should visit if you are staying on the island. It’s located in a peaceful, secluded area on Bantayan, a little out of Santa Fe Town. You may be lucky and get the place to yourself to enjoy the beauty and serenity. There is not a lot to do here other than swim or work on your tan, but what more do you want to do in paradise?

3. Sumilon Island

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu Philippines

This is an amazing island in Cebu’s south with a stunning little sandbank. It makes for a wonderful place to swim and enjoy this delightful beach. The waters here are just amazing with those aqua blues. Not only is it popular for a day trip (from Cebu City), but if you want to spend more time here, stay overnight (or longer) at the island’s only resort – Sumilon Bluewater (rates from approximately $316 – $514). The resort offers some nice rooms or check out their glamping (upmarket camping) for something a bit different. The island is also not far from Oslob, where you can swim with the whale sharks, one of Cebu’s most popular tourist attractions.

4. Santiago Bay (Camotes Islands)

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu Philippines

This is one of best-looking beaches on the Camotes, especially if you staying at Santiago Bay and Garden Resort. The resort offers arguably the best views in the Camotes Islands from its hilltop location. Santiago Bay waters are crystal clear, calm and shallow. Along the beach, there are a number of small low key resorts and some open air restaurants offering great affordable food. It’s also a perfect spot if you love watching sunsets. Over the years I’ve seen some specular ones here.  Santiago Bay is a perfect place to spend your vacation in Cebu.

5. Bakhaw Beach (Camotes Islands)

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu Philippines

Staying with the Camotes, but less touristy (and less crowded) than Santiago Bay is the beautiful Bakhaw Beach. It’s a nice beach to chill out at. Rent out a cottage, bring some drinks or food and enjoy it with friends and family. There are plenty of palm trees to shade you from the sun or cool off in the amazing waters.  While there are a couple of small resorts here, it’s more popular to come here for a day trip, and it is fairly close to Santiago Bay (if you are staying there) making it easy to get to.

6. Tingko Beach (Alcoy)

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu Philippines

This pretty little beach in Alcoy in southern Cebu is a popular place for locals. In the summer months particularly, when the weather is good, it looks stunning. In the video, you can get a better idea of what I mean. Keep in mind, on the weekends and holidays it can get a little noisy. There are a number of resorts in the area, but if you want to stay at a resort with the best views in town hands down the best place is Voda Krasna Resort. It occupies the best piece of real-estate in Alcoy. See video below for more details.

7. Badian Island

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu Philippines

This lovely beach is part of the Badian Island Resort an upmarket resort (rates starting from around $252 – $395) in Cebu’s south. Some of the more expensive rooms come with their own private plunge pool.  I love the tranquillity of the place, a wonderful place to laze by a beautiful beach while enjoying some of the finer things in life. Saviour a relaxing cocktail (at happy hour) sit back and enjoy an amazing tropical sunset.

8. White Beach (Moalboal)

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu Philippines

Moalboal has two main beach areas, Panagsama Beach and White Beach. Panagsama is more rocky than sandy, while White Beach is a lovely sandy beach. Not only do the waters look great, there is some terrific snorkeling offshore. A reef runs along Moalboal and there is lots of sea life to discover. If you’re lucky you may be able to snorkel and see some turtles. It is a fairly popular place so on weekends and holidays it can get busy. There are cottages to rent out for day use or if you plan to stay longer there are a number of resorts dotted along the shore. Moalboal offers some good diving in the area as well, so a lot of these resorts have their own dive shops.

9. Santa Fe Beaches (Bantayan Island)

Top 10 Awesome Beaches in Cebu Philippines

Bantayan Island (as I said in the video) is my favourite island in Cebu. The best beaches are located in the town of Santa Fe, the most popular place to stay on the island. Bantayan has some wonderful beaches that particularly in summer months (March – April) just look divine. The colours of the waters just blow me away. Not only that, it has that great island feel which I love. It’s laid back, friendly and a fantastic place to holiday in. There are a number of great beach resorts to stay at, nothing luxurious though. It is more suited to the budget to the mid-price bracket. If you want a nice resort on the beach (depending on your budget) you could look at Kota Beach Resort, Anika Island Resort, Budyong and Santa Fe Beach Club to name a few. Check my other videos for more info on this.  During Easter, it does get busy here with thousands of local tourists. Expect room rates to triple in price at this time of year.  If I only had one island to visit in Cebu, this would be my preference.

10. Virgin Island (Bantayan Island)

This island is a must do when you stay in Bantayan Island. Around a 30-minute boat ride from Bantayan, it makes for an awesome day trip. If you like Virgin Island in Bohol (Philippines), this Virgin Island I think is even better. Its beaches are what you expect to find in a postcard. The island’s beauty just blows me away. From its gorgeous white sands to those beautiful colours of the waters -just makes this feel like heaven. It’s uncrowded and peaceful. If you wish to spend more time here, there are a couple of simple cottages to stay at – I go into details in the video above.

Other Beaches in Cebu

One of the popular places to stay in Cebu is on the island of Mactan. Here you will find some of the most luxurious resorts in Cebu. I’m not overly impressed with beaches in Mactan as they only ones worth mentioning are the man-made ones. It’s not on my top 10 list of beaches in Cebu, but if pressed to choose one, I would say Shangri-La Resort and Spa’s (man-made) is the best beach in Mactan Island. It does look impressive and as you would expect from the Shangri-La brand, the whole resort is an excellent place to stay at.  See below video for an in-depth guide to this resort.

So there you have it, I hope this list can give you some ideas on where to go and stay in Cebu. Or even if Cebu wasn’t on your plans maybe you will inspire you to consider this part of the Philippines. I think Cebu doesn’t get as much recognition as it should. Palawan and Boracay attract more attention. If you love the beach, Cebu offers plenty of places to choose from. I think it’s a fantastic place to visit.

28 Best Cebu Tourist Spots for Different Travelers

“ Anong sikat sa Cebu ? (What is Cebu famous for?) “ Anong magagandang puntahan sa Cebu? ” (What are the best tourist spots in Cebu?)

As Cebuano locals ourselves, we are often asked by visiting friends for our recommendations on the best experiences in our hometown. We thought it’s an easy question to answer, but it wasn’t with the plethora of things to see and do in Cebu.

Finally, we are coming up with this list of top Cebu tourist spots for different types of travelers. Enjoy!

Best places to visit in Cebu for beach bums

Who doesn’t love the beach? Many tourists and even locals love to explore Cebu for its stunning beaches and unspoilt islands. Yes, aside from the main island, Cebu is also composed of small islands that are home to the best beaches in the province. Below are just a few of them we’ve explored ourselves that we highly recommend to visitors.

1. Bantayan Island

Sandira Beach in Bantayan

If you don’t mind the four to five-hour journey to Northern Cebu, we would always recommend Bantayan Island . It’s one of the best Philippine tourist spots and home to some of the best beach resorts in Cebu . We’ve been here many times already, and we would never be tired of coming back. It’s always on top of our list of the must-visit Cebu places.

You can rent a motorbike for ₱300 a day to explore Bantayan’s tourist spots. You can also frolic on the beach, go island hopping, or take it up a notch by skydiving. There’s always something for everyone in Bantayan Island!

If you’re interested to know more, check out our Bantayan Island travel guide and our recommendations on the best Bantayan Island resorts and hotels . Watch our video as well to see snippets of our Bantayan weekend getaway:

2. Malapascua Island

Malapascua Island is one of the top Cebu tourist spots for divers

Malapascua Island in Daanbantayan is a popular diving spot famous for its thresher sharks. You can go on a scuba diving exploration to Monad Shoal, a sunken coral plateau where you may spot the endangered thresher sharks. If you’re not the adventurous type, you can simply stay in one of Malapascua’s beach resorts , go swimming in Bounty Beach, explore the island on foot, or befriend the locals.

When we went there, one of the locals showed us around the island without asking for anything in return, and we’re very grateful for the experience.

3. Sumilon Island

Bluewater Island is one of the top Cebu tourist spots for beach lovers

Sumilon Island in Oslob is a private island under Bluewater Resorts , a Filipino-owned resort chain which is proud of their signature “amuma” hospitality. Here, you are whisked to an island paradise where you can bask under the sun, walk on the famous sandbar, and do outdoor adventures such as kayaking, snorkeling, and trekking. We only went there on a day trip and we already had so much fun. We’re sure you will!

Tip: If you are on a budget, you can actually just go on a Sumilon Island day tour which costs less than staying a night on the island.

4. Camotes Islands

Santiago Bay, Camotes Island is one of the top Cebu tourist spots for beach lovers

Camotes Islands is a group of islands on the northeast of Cebu. One of the popular tourist spots here is Santiago Bay , where you can see a long stretch of white sand beach. Aside from swimming and relaxing on the beach, you can visit some famous natural attractions such as Lake Danao, Bukilat Cave, Timubo Cave, Busay Falls, Mangodlong Rock, and Buho Rock. We’ve already been here twice, and we’ll surely come back to experience more.

5. Mactan Island

Shangri-La Mactan is one of the top beach resorts in Cebu

While Mactan Island deserves a separate article, we’ve included it to this list of Cebu tourist spots mainly because it is the jumping-off point to explore the rest of Cebu. The airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport , is located here, and luxury resorts such as Shangri-La Mactan , Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan , and Dusit Thani Mactan are all in Mactan Island.

On top of that, you can go on a Mactan island hopping day tour to the marine sanctuaries of Olango Island and Hilutungan Island. Basically, Mactan Island is not really a tourist spot per se but a Cebu tourist destination worth adding in your Cebu itinerary. And if you want to stay close to Mactan Island, consider these Cebu hotels near Mactan Airport .

Best Cebu tourist spots for adventure-seekers and nature lovers

Aside from the beaches, Cebu is also blessed with natural wonders that leave visitors in awe. We’ve rounded up some of the best Cebu tourist spots for those seeking some adrenaline rush amid nature’s beauty.

6. Osmeña Peak

Osmeña Peak is one of the top Cebu tourist spots for nature lovers

Reach Cebu’s highest peak by climbing up Osmeña Peak in Mantalongon, Dalaguete down south of Cebu. You can hire a reliable tour guide like Highland Adventures to take you to the summit of Osmeña Peak. Some visitors opt to spend a night here by camping. If you still have the stamina and energy, you can even trek for about six hours to reach Kawasan Falls in Badian like we did. It was indeed exhausting but so worth it!

7. Kawasan Falls

Kawasan Falls is one of the top Cebu tourist spots for nature lovers

If you want to chase some waterfalls in Cebu, you can’t skip Kawasan Falls in Badian. If swimming here is not enough, why not level up your experience by canyoneering ? We did this outdoor activity again with Highland Adventures , and we’d say that our guides really took care of us. It was one hell of a nerve-wracking experience but it’ll always be one for the books. You should scratch this off your Cebu bucket list soon!

8. Pescador Island

Pescador Island is one of the top Cebu tourist spots for marine enthusiasts

Explore the rich underwater world by snorkeling in Pescador Island off the coast of Moalboal. And while you’re here, be sure to experience the famous Moalboal sardine run and spot some sea turtles. You’ll undoubtedly fall in love with the marine wonders down here!

Tip: You may join an island hopping tour to Pescador Island with round-trip transfers from Metro Cebu if you don’t want to commute.

Beach in Oslob

Located south of Cebu, Oslob is known for its whale shark watching activity and the jumping-off point to Sumilon Island . But did you know that Oslob is also home to some relatively underrated beaches and natural wonders like Tumalog Falls? Oslob is a paradise we won’t be sick of visiting every so often.

10. Bojo River

Bojo River is one of the award-winning Cebu tourist spots for sustainable tourism

Love nature and a strong advocate of sustainable tourism? You should explore Bojo River in Aloguinsan. This eco-cultural attraction in Cebu is not recognized as one of Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in the World for nothing.

Local guides will take you on a mesmerizing cruise along Bojo River, passing through a well-preserved ecosystem of flora and fauna. A visit here will not only open your eyes to responsible and sustainable tourism, but will also enable you to support the local community.

Cebu tourist attractions for history buffs

Cebu is home to some of the country’s oldest historical landmarks. Go on a walking tour and explore these cultural gems you can find only in Cebu.

11. Magellan’s Cross

Magellan’s Cross is one of Cebu's most famous historical landmarks

Start your walking tour to Magellan’s Cross , arguably the most famous historical landmark in Cebu.

In 1521, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan led a Spanish expedition where they planted a cross to mark the birth of Christianity in Cebu. This very site has been preserved as a historical landmark, which houses the cross and ceiling murals depicting the baptism of Rajah Humabon.

Magellan’s Cross is declared as a National Cultural Treasure of the Philippines together with the Basilica del Santo Niño located just beside it.

12. Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño

Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño is a famous historial landmark in Cebu

From Magellan’s Cross, you can easily spot the Basilica del Santo Niño , the oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines. Enter the church and you’ll be enthralled by the ceiling paintings and various religious relics including the sacred Sr. Sto. Niño. Devotees come here to “dagkot” (light a candle), pray, and attend a mass.

13. Simala Shrine or Simala Church

Simala Church

Another Catholic pilgrimage site you may want to visit in Cebu is the Simala Shrine or Simala Church located in Sibonga in Cebu south. Devotees come here to say their prayers and petitions as the image of Our Lady of Lindogon is believed to be miraculous. Religion aside, the shrine itself is a sight to behold!

14. Casa Gorordo

Casa Gorordo

There’s so much history in the beautifully preserved Casa Gorordo in Parian, Cebu City. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines declared it a National Historical Landmark. As you enter the house, it’s as though you are teleported back to the Spanish colonial era. There is a minimal admission fee which includes a guided tour. It’s by far the most interesting and interactive museum we’ve visited in Cebu so it’s worth more than what we paid for.

After exploring the museum, relax and have a cup of coffee at their recently opened Bo’s Coffee, one of the homegrown cafes in Cebu .

Tip: From Casa Gorordo, you can walk towards the marker of Colon Street to have a glimpse of the oldest street in the Philippines while you’re already here.

15. Fort San Pedro

Fort San Pedro is one of the top Cebu attractions for history buffs

Fort San Pedro is a military defense structure in Plaza Independencia near Cebu City’s port area. It was built in the early 1600s to defend the land against pirates and raiders. You can climb up the fort, see a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area, and you’ll understand why this place was strategic back then.

Tip: Cebu hosts an annual Gabii sa Kabilin (a night of heritage) where you can hop from one museum or historical landmark to another. It’s an interesting way to learn and immerse in Cebu’s rich culture and heritage. You can also ride a tartanilla (horse-drawn carriage) to complete your experience. Follow Gabii sa Kabilin official Facebook page for more information and updates.

16. National Museum of the Philippines (Cebu)

cebu tourist spots beaches

The National Museum of the Philippines in Cebu  is one of the newest historical attractions in Cebu. Officially opened in Aug 2023, it has different galleries showcasing the rich Cebuano culture and heritage. The historic Aduna building was once the Customs House for 94 years before it became the Malacañang sa Sugbo (Malacañang of the South) in 2004. Admission is free so take advantage of it while you’re in Cebu.

Top tourist spots in Cebu City for sightseeing

Prepare your cameras and strike a pose at these IG-worthy tourist spots in Cebu City . Most of them are located close to each other so it shouldn’t be much of a hassle to visit all places. But if you prefer more convenifence, you may want to check out this Cebu City private day tour which will already take you to the top Cebu City attractions.

17. Taoist Temple

Taoist Temple

While Christianity is predominant in Cebu, there’s a place where Taoism is being practiced and that is Taoist Temple in Beverly Hills Subdivision. Built in 1972 by the Filipino-Chinese community, Taoist Temple is open to everyone — devotees and non-devotees of Taoism are all welcome here.

Taoist Temple truly is one of the best Cebu tourist spots to visit, especially if you’re interested to learn more about Taoism and see actual rituals being done. While you’re here, toss a coin on the wishing well. Who knows, your wish might just be granted.

18. Temple of Leah

Temple of Leah

If you know actress Ellen Adarna, you should know that the Temple of Leah is a tribute to her grandma Leah Villa Albino-Adarna. The Best Beaches in Cebu – Blue Skies, White Sand

It’s impossible to talk about the Philippines without thinking about clear blue waters and white sand beaches. Having  three out of 20 islands ranked as the best in the world, this once overlooked country archipelago is gaining popularity with travelers from all over the world.

For first-timers to the Philippines, you cannot miss the cosmopolitan-rural-tropical island of Cebu. It is chock full of hidden gems and beautiful beaches.

Some Background On Cebu

Cebu is one flight away from Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. There are also international flights flying straight to Cebu, which is why more and more people are beginning to discover this province of over 800,000 people. All flights arrive at the Mactan Cebu International Airport , but Cebu is also accessible via ferry from neighboring provinces like Bohol and Dumaguete.

Cebu is part of the Visayas region, a group of islands in the middle of the Philippine archipelago. English is widely spoken in the mainland, as well as the local dialect known as Bisaya.

The main island of Cebu is one long narrow piece of land surrounded by waters, with a splattering of smaller islands here and there. Travel is pretty straight forward – just take the main bus at the Northern or Southern Bust Terminal near the airport, and follow the main road until you reach your destination. From the bus stops, it’s a matter of riding another tricycle (a local mode of transportation) to the port, while some terminals end at the port itself. A boat ride, which normally takes just 30 minutes, brings you to the island paradise of your dreams.

If riding a boat is not on your agenda, the mainland of Cebu itself has more beaches than you will ever have time for.

Cebu is a much cheaper city than Manila. This province has all the conveniences of a big city combined with the adventure and relaxation that the Philippines’ has to offer. So below, we present you the best beaches in Cebu!

Island Hopping Experience in Cebu

Mactan island.

Most Stunning Beaches in Cebu

Along the M.L. Quezon Highway, heading from Mactan towards Marigondon, are rows of dive shops offering courses and trips within and around Mactan Island.Mactan is also connected via two bridges to the mainland just a few kilometers away from the main Cebu City. This gives travelers to Mactan a never-ending list of places to go for food, parties, and sightseeing.

 Malapascua Island

Malapascua Island

Divers from all over the world head to Malapascua Island to see the very elusive thresher sharks. While not very common in other areas of the Pacific, the  Monad Shoal site, a one-hour boat ride from Malapascua, gives divers guaranteed sightings every day. The nearby Gato Island is also home to different sea creatures and is a perfect location for macro photography.

If you are looking for something laid back, beach bumming is perfect on the white sand of the many beaches on this small island. Just prop up a chair or lay a beach towel on the sand and wait for the sun to rise or to set – both times offer equally stunning views.Top places to stay on Malapascua include:

  • Thresher Cove Dive Resort
  • Hippocampus Beach and Dive Resort
  • Evolution Dive Resort

Bantayan Island

Best Beaches in Cebu

Yet another island with clear blue waters and fine white sand is Bantayan Island. It is found at the northern tip of Cebu, a three-hour bus ride from the Nothern Bus Terminal to Hagnaya Port. From the port, it’s just a one-hour ferry ride to the island itself. There are three municipalities in the island:  Bantayan , famous for golden sunsets and a centuries old church, Madridejos ,   a fishing village, and Sta.   Fe , known for its sunrise and a long stretch of fine white sand.

There’s a long list of things to do here, including swimming in the waters of Ogtong Cave or Sto. Nino Caves , strolling around the 8-hectare at the Bantayan Island Nature Park,  and biking around the island. Of course, one of the best things to do is simply enjoy the sun, sand, and water. Top places to stay here include:

  • Anika Island Resort
  • Adelaida Pensionne Hotel

Sumilon Island

Best Beaches in Cebu

There is a day trip fee of $30 on the weekdays and $40 on the weekends. This gives guests access to the pool, spa, and lounge amenities of the resort. Still, non-guests can enjoy the sandbar on the side of the island. If all you really want to do is lay on the sand without a care in the world, the sandbar is enough of an experience. If you’re not staying overnight at the resort, spend half a day at the sandbar, then head to other attractions in Oslob.

The Heritage Park, Tumalog Falls, and Samboan Falls are all one tricycle ride away from the port.

Camotes Islands

Best Beaches in Cebu

Camotes is a group of islands on the eastern side of Cebu with four main municipalities. The most popular is the more developed San Francisco on Pacijan Island.   However, there are hidden gems found in the lesser-known  Poro , Tudela and Pilar municipalities. Getting to these islands is not the easiest to do, which has, in turn, helped to preserve these Cebu beaches and other attractions. A jeepney ride to Danao Port and a ferry to any of your chosen islands takes you to the literally green islands.

There are coconut trees, tropical hardwood trees, mangroves, and various species of plants and flowering plants. Most of the surrounding beaches are also open to the public, with only a few claimed by resorts as private property. Camotes Island is nicknamed “The Lost Horizon of the South”. In a way, this gives you a clue as to how breathtaking this barely-touched beauty can be. Spend your time here exploring fine white sand beaches, diving sites, majestic Danao lake, and caves for a truly memorable experience.

Mainland Beaches in Cebu

Best Beaches in Cebu

There is also nearby Pescador Island , which is home to even more sardines, frogfish, and some occasional hammerhead sharks.Divers should head to the numerous dive shops and accommodations found along Panagsama Beach . Non-divers and leisure travelers can find cottages and resorts on White Beach in Basdaku .

Lambug Beach

Most Stunning Beaches in Cebu

Photo credit: Su–May via Foter.com / CC BY

Lambug Beach doesn’t have the much-coveted white sand, but it’s no less of an attraction. It’s located in Lambug Town in Badian , a municipality just a few minutes further than Moalboal. The long stretch of fine sand is usually overlooked by one of the most popular attractions in Badian, and in Cebu as a whole –  canyoneering in Kawasan Falls (Another of the amazing waterfalls in Cebu ).

However, this has made Lambug Beach much less crowded so travelers can find solace on the mostly empty beach, especially during low season. There are several small resorts lining the beach, which rent out chairs and tables right on the beach for non-guests. Depending on where you’re coming from in Badian, tricycles are willing to bring you to Lambug Beach. However, since not a lot of vehicles pass by, make sure to arrange a pick-up with your tricycle driver if you’re not spending the night at any of the resorts.

Hidden Beach

Most Stunning Beaches in Cebu

Photo credit: AdamCohn via Foter.com / CC BY-NC-ND

The Hidden Beach is one of the two beach destinations in the municipality of Aloguinsan in the western part of Cebu. Despite its name, Hidden Beach is a more established area compared to the other beach called Hermit’s Cove. At Hidden Beach, you will find hotels and resorts for a wide range of budgets, with cleaner beachfront areas and some watersport activities.

Hermit’s Cove, on the other hand, is less developed – a bit back-to-basics with simple huts, very few amenities, and occasional power and water shortage. Hidden Beach is a few miles away from the main road, which means that the area is very quiet and secluded. It can be a popular destination on the weekdays, but weekends ensure absolute tranquility.

From the beach, there is also a mangrove area nearby for travelers to go on a kayak tour. Cebu is definitely one province with a whole world to offer. White sand beaches and crystal blue waters are the best attractions of the province, but the city life, an abundance of falls, cliffs, and caves, and friendly people make it one of the best places to visit in the Philippines.

WHAT'S IN THIS POST?

What Are the Nicest Beaches in Northern Cebu?

The nicest beaches in northern Cebu for me are Paradise Beach in Bantayan Island, Virgin Island Beach, Langob Beach in Malapascua Island, Santiago Bay Beach in Camotes Islands, and Maravilla Beach in Tabuelan. All of these beaches boast crystal-clear water, fine white sand, and an expansive shore with a great view of the ocean and the sky.

What Are the Islands in Northern Cebu?

There are so many islands in northern Cebu. The most popular ones are Bantayan Island, Virgin Island, Malapascua Island, and Camotes Islands. Some islands in north Cebu that you should take into account include Kinatarkan Island, Carnaza Island, Capitancillo Islet, and Tulang Diot Island.

15 Most Beautiful Beaches in Northern Cebu

There are so many beaches in the north part of Cebu as well as remote islands that are blessed with crystal-clear blue water and fine white sand. Here are CEBU INSIDER’s 15 Best Beaches in North Cebu:

1. Sillon Island Beach

Sillon Island is one of the most beautiful islands in Cebu and has one of the most beautiful beaches in Northern Cebu. Crystal clear water, powdery white sand, and fun water activities—you can find them all here.

Also known as Virgin Island, this remote island a few kilometers off the coast east of Bantayan Island is only accessible through accredited tours or boat transfers from Santa Fe.

Visit the Santa Fe Tourism Office in Bantayan Island to arrange a tour for you. Or, ask your hotel’s front desk about island hopping tours.

2. Paradise Beach (Bantayan Island)

Paradise Beach’s long stretch of white sand shore and crystal clear water make it one of the best beaches in northern Cebu. Of all beaches in Bantayan Island , this is probably the most beautiful. Tucked behind craggy cliffs, Paradise Beach is also a good spot to snorkel and camp.

Do know that Paradise Beach is accessible through a different ragged, dirt trail as well as Sandira Beach, which is part of the stretch of Paradise Beach. Sandira Beach was leased to a private entity several years ago.

Sandira Beach and Paradise Beach have an entrance fee of 60 PHP (~1 USD) and 30 PHP (~0.5 USD), respectively.

It’s also one of the few beaches in Malapacua Island . Langob Beach is a public beach, but you can use the coconut swings here and chill by the beach for free.

Snorkeling is also an activity you can do here. A few resorts and stalls nearby sell coconuts, chips, drinks, and more. There are no huts and toilets nearby, but you can use the one from D Avila’s Horizon Dive Resort.

Heading to the more elevated spot is in the Busay area which is the Sirao Flower Garden . Going there is like experiencing the Netherlands , thus this tourist attraction is commonly called, “The Little Amsterdam”.

Further, the main activities here are hiking and camping . Most hikers prefer two hiking trails. The first one begins in Badian, passing by Kawasan Falls.

On the other hand, the other one is in the town of Dumanjug, which culminates in Brgy Liong. In addition, when you trek going to the top of the mountain, don’t forget to bring your water, it will help you re-hydrate.

Oslob Municipality is known for old churches and beautiful beaches but became more popular because of the gentle giants – the Whale Sharks .

Local fishermen would interact with the whale sharks by feeding them…until large number of tourists began to arrive in Oslob to see the whale sharks being fed. As a result, these tourists snorkel or dive with the whale sharks.

Oslob Whale Shark watching  is one of the top in the bucket lists of tourists who visit Cebu because of the rare experience. Most note worthy, when ever you have a close encounter with the Whale Sharks, it is not allowed to touch them.

Magellan presented Christianity to Cebuanos, and most of them embraced the religion. This site is where Magellan planted the Cross (which symbolizes Christianity) on April 21, 1521 and now is known as Magellan’s Cross . An encasement protects the original Magellan’s cross.

Ferdinand Magellan’s “Sto Niño” which is the Holy Child Jesus statue is in this church. He had this Sto Niño when he converted Cebu’s chieftain Humabon and his wife to Christianity on April 14, 1521.

The See of Rome labels this church as the “”Mother and Head of all Churches in the Philippines”.

Cebu Tourist Spots Colon Street

Basilica del Sto. Niño situates in Colon Street , the oldest street in the country.  Spanish colonizer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi established the street in 1565. He named the street after Cristopher Columbus who was actually Cristobal Colon.

This place is near Cebu ports and is the hub for early commerce. As a result, first establishments of Cebu are in this street. At present, it is still the hotspot for businesses, theaters, pubs, shopping malls, etcetera.

To know the specifics, it is best you visit this site which stands stall and strong at the heart of the city.

Cebu Tourist Spots Yap

No need to go further, right across The Heritage of Cebu Monument is the Yap Sandiego Ancestral House. This ancestral house is one of the oldest houses in the Philippines. Built during Spanish era (between 1675-1700), coral stones and egg whites make the walls.

Molave, balayong and terracotta glue the roof together. Although this is built during Spanish occupation, the owner of the house, Don Juan Yap is a Chinese trader.

Therefore, the design of the house is a mix of Chinese, Spanish, and Filipino inspirations. Cebu’s native materials make up the furniture of the house.

Moreover, religious images are over the house which reflect the religiosity of the residents.

cebu tourist spots

Moreover, this house welcomed transient Jesuit missioners from various regions. Like Yap Sandiego, the coral stones and terracotta hold the house.

However, the place is real grand – the ceilings are high, the walls are high. This has become the meeting place of the early Cebuano elites.

To add, the house preserves some ceramics spotted during the Ming Dynasty.

cebu tourist spots casa gorordo

Image Source From the Jesuit House, you just have to walk, and in about five minutes, you get to Casa Gorordo Museum. This house-turned-museum is where the first Cebuano bishop, Juan Gorordo, resided.

Originally built during the 1800s, a Spanish businessman Juan Isidro de Gorordo purchased the house. Due to Ramon Aboitiz Foundation’s Cultural Heritage Program, Casa Gorordo became a museum in 1980. The museum depicts Philippine culture between 1800s to 1900s.

Cebu Tourist Spots Fort San Pedro

About ten-minute walk from Casa Gorordo is the oldest fort in the Philippines-  Fort San Pedro . Spanish leader, General Miguel Lopez de Legazpi commanded the building of this fort. De Legazpi thought to use it against Muslim warriors.

However, as time passed by, other colonizers had used it for other reasons. When Americans occupied Cebu, their soldiers used this as their residence. Also, Americans educated Cebuanos in this fort.

Further, during the Japanese colonization,  Japanese also used the fort as a barrack, a prisoner and a hospital. The historicity of this smallest-oldest fort in the country is undeniable.

Cebu Tourist Spots Museo Sugbo

Four blocks from Fort San Pedro is Sugbu Museo. This is a large museum because it used to be Cebu’s provincial jail. The lone architect in Cebu at that time, Domingo de Escondrillas designed it in 1869.

During Spanish occupation, this served as prison for Filipino captives. However, during American period, Americans placed their horses here as stables for horse racing.  Also, during Japanese time, Japanese imprisoned Filipino opponents in this place.

This becomes Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) but CPDRC has relocated.  Thus, on August 5, 2008,  the place became a museum since it has rich role in Cebu’s history.

Cebu Island is one of my favorite destinations in the Philippines. Cebu Island is so diverse, offering a mecca of adventurous things to do, including epic waterfalls, panoramic viewpoints, swimming with whale sharks, island hopping, and much more. It’s a very interesting place to visit; you will not get bored of the things that you can see. It also offers unique food and their traditional cuisine, which is so worth trying. I encourage everyone to visit Cebu to experience what I experienced when I visited there. You could learn something that you can apply in your life while you are young. Start traveling and collecting because memories last a lifetime. When we get old, we could just go back to the time when we started to travel and the photos that were taken there.

Hello Hanna!

Good Day! Thank you so much Travel Cebu for making our trip memorable. We had a lot of fun during our 4d3n trip in Cebu. Thank you Mr. Jonel for driving us safely and to be patient to us. We really had a great fun eventhough the food wasn’t matched our tastes but it’s natural because we had different food tastes..we’re from kimchi country as you know. We had much fun at Sumilon Island Sandbar the water was clear. Bohol also was nice place..no traffic and chocolate hills view was amazing. The accomodation wasn’t bad. Lastly thank you for preparing the barbecue party in your place the whole group really appreciate the accomodation. Jonel thank you for driving and guiding us safely. You did a great Job! 27 Things to do in Cebu + Tourist Spots

27 Things to do in Cebu + Tourist Spots

The island of Cebu is one of the most sought after destinations in the Philippines. It is a strategically-located travel hub to the rest of the country that is easily reachable by several modes of transport. The province along with its surrounding islands boasts of spectacular beaches, dive spots, majestic waterfalls, delicious food and so many more. Plus, the capital, Cebu City is a cultural hotspot that you wouldn’t want to miss. With Cebu’s many attractions, it’s no wonder the island is even included in TripAdvisor’s Top 25 Destinations in Asia, in 2019.

Cebu City is quite famous for its cultural heritage sites – such as Magellan’s Cross, Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino, Fort San Pedro, Plaza Independencia, and many more. There are several ancestral houses and museums that you can easily visit as well. The local cuisine is a definite must-try, especially the well-famed Cebu Lechon.

Cebu is also home to mother nature’s artworks and is highly sought after for its diverse marine life. Head on over to the south of Cebu for an exhilarating canyoneering adventure at Kawasan Falls and to Moalboal to swim with thousands of sardines. You can also head up north to the ethereal Bantayan Island for some sky-diving, and to Malapascua Island, to swim with thresher sharks.

All these and more will have you visit Cebu over and over again.

Here’s a list of beautiful places to visit in Cebu including top things to do & the best Cebu tourist spots.

To make your trip planning easy, I’ve added links to the locations on Google Maps. Feel free to click/tap on the links posted. Then, use the “save” feature on the Google Maps app. Seeing all your saved locations on the map will help you get started on planning your Cebu itinerary and know the best areas to stay, near places you want to go.

1. Cebu City

Location : Cebu Island, Central Visayas (Central Philippines) . Save on Google Maps .

Cebu City isn’t known as the “Queen City of the South” for nothing. It’s a lively metropolis but with deep cultural roots. The city is the oldest in the Philippines and it’s home to well-preserved Spanish-colonial heritage sites. A few of the most famous of these sites include Magellan’s Cross, Fort San Pedro, Magellan’s Shrine, Lapu-Lapu Monument, and the oldest church in the Philippines – Basilica del Santo Nino.

The city is also buzzing with local restaurants and trying the local cuisine is one you will enjoy. Treating myself to the world-famous Cebu Lechon is something I always look forward to during my visits. Cebu City is also home to the grandest festival in the country – the Sinulog Festival. Every year, the festival attracts tourists from all over the world during the third weekend of January.

2. Badian Canyoneering & Kawasan Falls

Location : Badian, Southwest Cebu . Save on Google Maps .

Canyoneering is an adrenaline junkie’s dream, and Badian is the perfect place for it, even if you haven’t done it before. It’s a thrilling adventure that lets you fully appreciate the beauty of nature as you travel down the river towards the magnificent Kawasan Falls through swimming, hiking, rappelling, and even cliff diving. It may sound scary, but you have nothing to worry about because the Badian Canyoneering tour package includes safety gear along with accredited and highly trained guides to assist you. It’s an experience I highly recommend you check out since Cebu is one of the few places where you can do this kind of activity.

Kawasan Falls in Badian is the most beautiful waterfall in all of Cebu. Its turquoise waters are absolutely stunning and seeing it is well worth it, even if you won’t go canyoneering. The stunning view is great for picnics with your family. Getting to the picnic grounds on the fall’s basin is an easy trek. It’s only about one and a half kilometers from the main entrance, and you can also hike a little further uphill towards the second and third levels of the waterfall.

Getting to Badian from Cebu City takes about three hours and if you want to maximize your travel time, then you can also book a tour that includes Osmena Peak. You can even travel to Moalboal, which is only about 45 minutes away, or even to Oslob.

3. Osmeña Peak

Location : Dalaguete, Southcentral Cebu . Save on Google Maps .

Standing at 1,013 meters above sea level, Osmena Peak is the highest, easily reachable point in Cebu. You’ll fall in love with the breathtaking 360-degree view of the surrounding areas – from unique rock formations, jagged-edged mountains with limestone cliffs, to endless farmlands and even the serene coastline.

The 700-meter hike to the summit of Osmena Peak is relatively easy, even for first-timers. The trek is well marked and takes less than half an hour. Most people visit Osmena Peak at around sunrise, but it can get foggy early in the morning during the colder months, so visiting before the rainy season would be more optimal. Any time in the morning or just before sunset would also be great for pictures because of the lighting. Also, try to visit during weekdays because Osmena Peak can be very busy with tourists during weekends.

Osmena Peak is located in Brgy. Mantalongon, Dalaguete. Dalaguete is about three hours south of Cebu City. There are many entry points to get there, and one of the best ways is to travel from Moalboal, which is just a short drive away from both Kawasan Falls and Osmena Peak. There are plenty of places to stay in and at Moabal that caters to different budgets; plus the town is also close to Oslob.

4. Bantayan Island

Location : Northern Cebu . Save on Google Maps .

Off the northernmost tip of Cebu is another hidden gem that will make you want to extend your trip. Bantayan Island is the perfect getaway from the big crowds of the city and other tourist destinations.

Bantayan Island is truly a paradise to behold. The wide stretch of fine white sand beaches and tranquil clear waters are breathtaking and you get to have them all to yourselves. Aside from idyllic and serene beach trips to Paradise Beach and Kota Beach and Sandbar, there are plenty of activities to do here as well – from kayaking to cliff diving and even sky-diving. You can also go island hopping to Virgin Island, Hilantagaan Island, and Kinatarkan Island.

The island also has a rich cultural history. The name Bantayan comes from the term “Bantayan ng Hari” which means “Watchtowers of the King.” There were 18 watchtowers built here during the Spanish. You can also visit the century-old churches here. If you love fresh seafood, you’ll be in for a gastronomic treat because the island is a major fishing community that supplies the freshest catch. They are also quite famous for their dried fish, locally known as “danggit.”

The best time to enjoy the island is from February to May. Although the island is tropically warm during most of the year, I suggest you try to avoid the months of June to September, which is usually the Philippines’ monsoon season.

The easiest way to get to Bantayan Island is through a charter plane at Mactan Airport via Air Juan that only takes 40 minutes. Don’t worry if you don’t have the budget for it because you can still reach the island via a direct bus from Cebu City. The bus will take you directly to the municipality of Santa Fe on the island and you wouldn’t have to book a ferry (RoRo) ride separately. Alternatively, you can also take a bus that can drop you off at Hagnaya Port where you can ride the ferry to the island. Travel time by bus+ferry from Cebu City is around 6 hours.

Bantayan Island offers diverse accommodations, ranging from budget-friendly fan rooms to luxurious resorts. I suggest you stay at least a night or two so you can enjoy everything the island has to offer. If you have an extra day, you can even visit the nearby Malapascua Island.

5. Mactan Island Resorts

Shangri-la Mactan Resort, Cebu

Location : Lapu-lapu City & Cordova, Mactan Island, Metro Cebu . Save on Google Maps .

Although Mactan Island is often overlooked in the top island destinations of the Philippines, the island is actually a great vacation spot for travelers. The island’s proximity to the airport is perfect for laid back vacationers that want to enjoy the comfort of modern living. Mactan Island is teeming with world-class resorts that offer luxurious amenities that even include white-sand beaches. Some of the most top-rated destinations here include Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort, Plantation Bay Resort, Movenpick Hotel Mactan, Crimson Resort and Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark. There are other resorts here that are more pocket-friendly as well. If you’re up for some island hopping, then there are several islands that can easily be reached from the resorts here.

Just a short ride from the Mactan Island resorts are two of the most historical places in Cebu – Magellan’s Shrine and Lapu-Lapu Monument. Magellan’s Shrine was built in honor of Ferdinand Magellan. Just meters aways is Lapu-Lapu Monument, a bronze statue of Lapu-Lapu, recorded as the first Filipino to resist colonization. Together, the two make up the Mactan Shrine and is believed to be the site where Magellan was killed.

6. TOPS Lookout Cebu

Location : Brgy. Busay (hills), Cebu City . Save on Google Maps .

One of the best ways to enjoy a panoramic view of the city’s skyline is at Tops Lookout. The Tops Lookout, or just Tops for short, is a fortress-like view deck with a modernist twist and offers a serene and romantic ambiance. The stone structure has a unique circular design with ring-like entrances that separate the rooms where you can lounge around or even enjoy a picnic, as the place also offers snacks, beer, and other refreshments. The landscaping is also unique because of the hexagonal concrete floor patterns lined with Bermuda grass. There are several benches and binoculars that you can use to appreciate the view. Although the best time to appreciate the view is around sunrise or sunset, the view is still breathtaking even when the sun is already up. Personally, I prefer going there before sunset and extending into the night to enjoy both the daytime and nighttime views.

Tops Lookout is located in Mt. Busay, about 20 minutes from JY Square Mall. You can take a motorcycle, a taxi or by private cars. If you take public transport, you’ll have to book them to wait for you, so expect that cab fare can be very expensive. You might be able to save some money by booking a tour that includes Tops among the destinations.

7. Cebu Taoist Temple

Location : Beverly Hills Subdivision, Cebu City . Save on Google Maps .

The towering, multi-tiered Taoist Temple in Cebu is an impressive cultural site that shouldn’t be missed, especially if it’s your first time visiting Cebu. The temple was built in 1972 by the Chinese community in Cebu and is the center of worship for Taoism on the island. The Taoist Temple is located in the upscale Beverly Hills Subdivision. The main temple stands at 270 meters above sea level and holds spacious balconies that offer a beautiful view of the metropolis. The main temple is open to both worshippers and non-worshippers and thanks to its astonishing architecture has become a landmark to tourists and locals alike. Inside the grounds, is another temple that is closed to the public – the Phu Sian Temple.

Cebu’s Taoist Temple is of traditional Chinese architecture and decorated with dragons and intricate wood carvings. At the entrance of the temple is a replica of the Great Wall of China. From here are three winding roads that lead to the main temple that houses the central altar filled with statues of Chinese gods and goddesses, a library, a wishing well, and even a souvenir shop.

In order to make a wish, Taoist rituals dictate that you would have to pray to gods. The ritual includes washing your hands, going barefoot when you enter the temple, and dropping two wooden blocks. If both blocks land face up, only then can you make a wish. If they do not, then you would need to come back again at another time to make your wish. You can also ask for guidance by using the wooden blocks. Another common ritual among devotees is the climbing of the temple’s 81 steps, which represent the Taoism scriptures’ 81 chapters, and then lighting joss sticks to have their fortune read by the monks. This ritual is only done on Sundays and Wednesdays. Aside from the majestic structures, alluring landscapes, and scenic views of the city, experiencing the rituals is a great way to spend your day in the Queen City of the south.

You can get to Cebu’s Taoist Temple by car, or by taxi. You can also take a motorcycle from JY Square Mall, but you would have to walk from the entrance of the subdivision to get there.

8. Temple of Leah, Cebu

Temple of Leah in Cebu City

Often dubbed as the Taj Mahal of Cebu, the Temple of Leah was also borne out of love. It was built by Teodorico Soriano Adarna to signify his undying love and devotion for his late wife Leah Albino-Adarna. Both of whom are the grandparents of actress Ellen Adarna. In terms of architecture, the place however is very different from the Taj Mahal. Instead, The Temple of Leah will give you a taste of Greece. Inspired by the ancient Roman structures, the temple is seven stories high with massive Doric columns made of granite. At the center of the driveway is a huge marble fountain and dotted on the corners of the building are life-sized Grecian statues. Leading to the shrine are two golden lions, and inside the shrine is a nine-foot bronze statue of Leah when she was chosen as the Matron Queen of her alma mater, the University of Southern Philippines. The building has 24 chambers including a library, a bar, and a museum. All of the areas are worth a snap or two.

The Temple of Leah is located at the top of a hill in Brgy. Busay, Cebu, and is about 45 minutes away from the city. If you want to have stunning photos of the site’s ornate and grand structures without being photobombed by other tourists, I suggest you go there just when it opens at 7:00 AM. The Temple of Leah is easily accessible by car and public transport, even by “habal-habal” (motorcycle taxi) from JY Square Mall.

10. Fort San Pedro

Fort San Pedro, Cebu

Location : A. Pigafetta Street / M.J. Cuenco Ave., Downtown Cebu City . Save on Google Maps .

Known as the smallest and oldest fort in the country, Fort San Pedro is a welcome retreat in the heart of a bustling metropolis. Its earliest structure was made out of logs just days after the arrival of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi on the island. The fort has undergone many changes and its present structure dates back to the 18th century. Through the years it has served as a garrison for the army, a stronghold for rebels, a prison and even a city zoo.

The walls of the triangular fort are about 20 feet tall, and 8 feet wide. On each corner stands a bastion and a watchtower. There are 14 cannons scattered amidst the tall trees and ornamental plants inside the fort. Even just a short visit to Fort San Pedro can take you back a trip back in time as you enjoy its peaceful ambiance and historic structures.

To the right of Fort San Pedro and just a short walk from Magellan’s Cross is the iconic Plaza Independencia. Plaza Independencia is witness to some of the most significant moments in the history of Cebu and symbolizes Cebu’s freedom from all who have tried to conquer the island. The century-old trees around the area have truly witnessed the heritage of the plaza. In the early 1600s, the public square was known as Plaza de Armas because of the military training and parades that took place here. In less than a century and now known as Plaza Mayor, the plaza has expanded to include Cebu’s cathedral. During the Spanish colonization, it was renamed as Plaza Maria Cristina to honor their Queen. To symbolize the freedom from the Spaniards, the American renamed it to Plaza Libertad. With the Philippines finally free from the reign of other nations, the Plaza was renamed as Plaza Independencia. The plaza’s beautiful landscapes and rich history make it a great place for sightseeing.

11. Magellan’s Cross

Magellan's Cross

Location : P. Burgos St., Downtown Cebu City . Save on Google Maps .

One of the most historic places in Cebu is Magellan’s Cross. The cross symbolizes the birth of Christianity in the Philippines. It was planted upon Ferdinand’s Magellan’s orders to signify the spread of Roman Catholicism when he arrived in the Philippines in 1521. It is believed that the original cross had miraculous healing properties and people started to chip it away. Thus, it was encased in a cross made of tindalo wood that now stands here, but some skeptics believed that the original cross was destroyed after the death of Magellan. The cross is housed in an ornate octagonal-shaped chapel with paintings on the ceiling that depict Magellan’s arrival, the planting of the cross, and the baptism of Rajah Humabon, Queen Juana and their subjects. Although its authenticity has often been questioned, Magellan’s Cross still holds an important part in history and has remained to be a popular pilgrimage site, not just for locals but for tourists as well.

12. Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu

Basilica del Santo Niño, Cebu

Location : Osmeña Blvd, Downtown Cebu City . Save on Google Maps .

Just a short walk from Magellan’s cross is the oldest Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines – the Basilica Minor del Santo Nino de Cebu. Also often known as the Sto. Nino Basilica, the church was founded in 1565 and houses the oldest religious relic that honors the Holy Child Jesus (Santo Niño). This relic dates back to Magellan’s time and is said to be the same one that he presented to Rajah Humabon when he and Queen Juana were baptized on April 14, 1521. The relic is believed to have been found on the very site where the basilica stands. It was found encased on a wooden box by a soldier 40 years after Magellan’s arrival when Miguel Lopez de Legaspi invaded the village.

The basilica’s original structure was destroyed by a fire and the present building was rebuilt in 1735 and finished in 1739. In 1965, Pope Paul VI declared the church as a basilica and as “the symbol of the birth and growth of Christianity in the Philippines” and was also declared as a National Landmark by President Ferdinand Marcos. The Holy See has also designated the basilica as “Mother and Head of all Churches in the Philippines.” The present structure now includes a pilgrimage center, a convent, a museum, and a library.

13. Crown Regency Sky Experience

Location : Osmeña Blvd, Cebu City . Save on Google Maps .

If you want a unique adventure in the Queen City of the South, then the Crown Regency Sky Experience is for you. The numerous rides in the city’s tallest building will definitely not disappoint whether you try them out in the morning or at night. The Edge Coaster is the Sky Experience’s top attraction and it’s the only amusement ride of its kind in the world. The two-seated ride goes around the edge of the building’s 38th floor, and riders can enjoy the view of the city at 130 meters in the sky. There’s even a control lever where you can tilt the seat 55 degrees towards the ground. Other must-try rides include the Skywalk Extreme, where you can walk, sit or even lie down on the floors at the edge of the building, and the Tower Zip that lets you zipline between two towers. The Tower Zip is the first zipline in the world that uses a fully automated braking system for a smoother stop. If you want a bit of extreme wall climbing, then you’ll have an exhilarating time in the Paramount Wall Climb and Cliff Hanger at the top of the 40-story building. With the wind blowing and the amazing view, you’ll definitely feel like you’re on top of a towering mountain.

Even if you’re not in for a thrilling ride, you can still enjoy the stunning view from the building in the Sky Observatory, where you can operate telescopes. You can also climb to the Vertex, the highest point of the building for an amazing 360-degree view of the busy metropolis.

If you’re afraid of heights, Crown Regency also offers amenities that are less heart-racing. There’s even a three-level playroom for smaller kids. The 6D Theater is a favorite among families and will let you experience movies that will tickle all of your senses through motion seats, and special effects such as rain and wind. There’s also Melvin’s Reef where you can enjoy mini-golf with a black-light under the sea experience. Or you can enjoy a world-class meal at the Sparkz Restobar, or lounge around with some refreshments at the Sky Bar or Dimensions Cafe. At the Crown Regency Sky Experience, there’s definitely something for everyone!

14. Try Cebu Lechon & the local food in Cebu

Cebu Lechon House - Carcar Lechon

Of all my trips to Cebu, the one thing I make sure I never skip on is enjoying the local food! Especially the Lechon! Even though you can widely find Lechon or roasted pig in the country, most people would agree that the best one they ever tasted is in Cebu. Even the world-famous American chef, Anthony Bourdain has declared Cebu’s Lechon as the “best pig ever” when he visited the country. So what makes this mouthwatering dish special? The young pork filled with secret herbs and spices and slowly roasted over coal is cooked to perfection that there’s no need for sauce. Yup, the Cebuanos have definitely got that crunchy skin and flavorful juicy meat combo just right. What’s great is that you can easily get a taste of it because many restaurants serve it warm with crackling skin and tender juicy meat. Locals will argue which restaurant serves the best because there are many favorites all around the island but you wouldn’t go wrong with Zubochon, CNT, Rico’s Lechon, Cebu’s Original Lechon Belly, and Ayers Lechon.

Locals also claim that the Lechon in Carcar, Cebu is unparalleled, even calling it the “Queen of All Lechon.” It’s jammed-pack with flavors because the pig is bathed in a special mix of ingredients that include pork broth, roasted pig drippings and “patios” an herb indigent to Carcar. But you can’t simply get it at fancy restaurants, because the best ones are served in their public markets. While you’re there, don’t forget to get some of Carcar’s famous chicharon. They have two versions of the crispy pork cracklings – pure skin or “kubal” and chicharon with “laman” or meat. Carcar may be an hour from Cebu City, but their Lechon and chicharon is worth the stopover.

Siomai sa Tisa

Aside from the Lechon and chicharon, there are plenty of other local foods you will enjoy. Strolling around the city wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Larsian sa Fuente, the original home of Cebu street food. It’s the go-to BBQ place for locals from all walks of life, and a must-try for tourists. Your eyes will go wide and your mouth will water as you take a pick from all kinds of meat that you can have barbequed – from typical the chicken and pork meat cuts, to innards, liver and cheeks. They also have longanisa, sausages, muttons and fresh seafood. And they’re best served with “puso” or steamed rice wrapped in coconut leaves. Larsian is an open-spaced establishment that has a lively ambiance that’s perfect for get-togethers. What’s even better is that the place has recently been renovated to provide a better dining experience. It’s located right in the heart of the city, beside Chung Hua Hospital and is quite easy to get to. Most of the food stalls serve food from around 10 AM to 2 AM, but the place is open 24 hours daily.

If you’re looking for a gastronomic adventure at affordable prices, then the Sugbo Mercado at Cebu I.T. Park is the place for you. It’s the biggest weekend food market in Cebu, and offers a wide variety of food – from local cuisines and delicacies, international flavors, and to unique and upcoming food trends. Treating yourself to a warm, and sumptuous meal here is certainly an exciting way of ending your day in Cebu. They are open on Thursdays to Sundays, from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Due to the growing demand, Sugbo Mercado also recently launched “StreetFood” at the Ayala Center Cebu’s active zone garden. The numerous stalls all serve authentic, high-quality street food including Cebuano staples like dirty ice cream, manok bisaya, balut, tuslob-buwa and ngohiong. And, they are open from 12 noon to 12 midnight, every single day of the week.

Food has always been deeply embedded in Filipino culture, and it is no different in the Queen City of the South. Aside from the Spanish and Chinese influence that has shaped the local cuisine, the buzzing city is also a hotspot for restaurants that offer unique and modern flavors. Why not try visiting Senor Kimchi, The Pig & Palm, The Pyramid or Birdseed? Other interesting restaurants that you can only find in Cebu include the 10,000 Roses Cafe, Balay sa Busay, Bintana, Gorliz, The Oriental Spice Gourmet and La Vie Parisienne. Trust me, even with just the food alone, you will love coming back to Cebu over and over again.

15. Mactan Island Hopping

Gilutongan (Hilutongan) & Nalusuan Island near Mactan, Cebu

Location : Hilotungan Channel. Between Mactan, Cebu & Bohol Islands . Save on Google Maps .

If you’re up for some saltwater therapy and don’t have the luxury of time for traveling to the ends of the province, then Mactan Island is the perfect jump-off point for you. Sprinkled on the channel between Cebu and Bohol are several stunning islands with vibrant and diverse marine life, and you can easily reach them via Mactan.

First off the list is Hilutungan Marine Reserve. The reserve is one of the richest sanctuaries in terms of marine diversity, and it’s a matchless spot for both snorkeling and diving. Even if you’re not up for these activities, you can still enjoy the stunning marine life from the boat because of the crystal clear waters around the shallow areas of the reserve. For seasoned divers, there’s even more in store for you because Hiltungan is known for sighting turtles along with snappers, parrotfish, jackfish, and many more.

Not far from Hilutungan Marine Reserve is another pristine island with a colorful aquatic life – Nalusuan Island. The island is part of Olango Reef and has a long white sandbar where you can easily swim with tons of fish and a protected coral area where you can snorkel. Also belonging to the Olango Reef is Caohagan Island. It’s a tiny island that’s just about two meters above sea level during high tide. Aside from enjoying the sea life through its crystal waters, the island is also an excellent stopover for a sumptuous meal of freshly-caught seafood. You can take your pick among the various kinds of live clams, shellfish, fishes, and rare seafood being displayed by locals and have them cooked on the spot.

Another great place to see is Olango Island. It’s only about 15 minutes away from Mactan Island, and it’s famous for birdwatching. The best time to visit the Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary is during the colder months or around November to February. During this time, migratory birds from Japan, Northern China, and Serbia often make a stop. Other attractions in Olango include the Caw-Oy Floating Restaurant, San Vicente Marine Sanctuary, Island Eco-Tourism Park and several beach resorts.

South of Olango Island is Pandanon Island. It’s actually part of Bohol, but it’s close proximity to Mactan makes it a frequent tourist spot. Its long stretch of white sand beaches and serene waters makes the island ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and for quick getaways with your family and friends.

17. Sirao-Celosia Flower Garden

Location : Brgy. Sirao, Cebu City . Save on Google Maps .

Known as the “Little Amsterdam of Cebu,” the Sirao Flower Garden has rapidly gained attention as one of Cebu’s top attractions because of the abundance of its blooming flowers and well-placed decor. The garden is filled with flame-like celosia flowers that range from yellow, red, orange, pink, and purple. You can also see some sunflowers, mums, daisies and asters. Aside from taking photos amidst the flowers, another favorite spot is the giant hand with a scenic mountain view in the background. Other interesting decors include giant nests, wooden arches, a windmill, and a lot more.

The best time to enjoy the blooms is when the sun is up. The garden is especially stunning during peak season, which is from April to May, and from October to November. You can get to Sirao Garden Farm by taxi or hired car from Cebu City. If you’re on a tighter budget, you can also ride a jeepney to JY Square Mall, and take a “habal-habal” from there.

QUICK ANSWERS – CEBU TOURIST SPOTS

Let’s start this guide with the essentials you should know, from getting there to the best time to visit and more.

HOW TO GET TO CEBU?

Cebu Island is located in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines.

Cebu is very close to the neighboring islands of Bohol and Negros Oriental which can be easily reached by plane or ferry.

There are daily flights to Cebu Mactan International Airport connecting domestic travelers from many destinations within the Philippines and also welcoming international arrivals from around the world.

There are many ferries operating in and out of Cebu Island that can be booked online in advance.

I always use 12Go Asia to search and book all of my transportation within the Philippines.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT CEBU?

The best time to visit Cebu, weather-wise, is between April and July when temperatures are hot and there is barely any rainfall.

This is also high season in Cebu, so expect to see many tourists during these months.

I recommend visiting Cebu during the shoulder months of the high season between November and March which sees a bit of rainfall but usually only lasts for a couple of hours and the rest of the day is sunny.

Try to avoid the typhoon season in Cebu which is between August and October.

WHERE TO STAY IN CEBU?

There are two main tourist areas to stay in when visiting Cebu Island, one is in Cebu City in Central Cebu and the second is in Moalboal in South Cebu.

Cebu City is located on the Central East Coast of the island and it’s a great base for a day or two upon arriving and exploring some of the Cebu tourist attractions.

However, the majority of places to visit in Cebu are in South Cebu and the best place to stay is in Moalboal which is located on the Southeast coast of the island.

Cebu has hundreds of accommodation options to choose from, so I have narrowed it down to a few of the best places to stay in Cebu City and in Moalboal to fit the needs of budget backpackers, luxury travelers, and everyone in between.

See the list of accommodations below that I personally recommend:

How to get around cebu.

There are a couple of options on how to get around Cebu Island Philippines and they are by public bus, taxi, grab taxi, scooter, habal habal (motorbike taxi), tricycle, and Jeepney.

You can rent a scooter in Cebu City and Moalboal for as little as 300 pesos per day and make your own way around these two tourist destinations in Cebu.

If you are not confident driving a scooter, the other option is to ride in a taxi, grab taxi, public bus, Jeepney, tricycle, or habal habal in the main city areas.

For longer distance journeys, for example from Cebu City to Moalboal, Cebu City to Oslob, or Cebu City to the north, it is best to take public buses as opposed to riding a scooter or taking a taxi.

From Cebu City to South Cebu the journey time is around 3 hours on the bus and the cost is between 150-200 pesos.

If you are traveling to North Cebu to visit Malapascua Island, Kalanggaman Island, and Bantayan Island, the bus journey is around 4 hours and the cost is between 200-250 pesos.

Alternatively, it’s possible to rent a car in Cebu and drive around the island at your own pace.

15 BEST CEBU TOURIST SPOTS

Now that you’ve got all the information on how to get to Cebu, where to stay, the best time to visit, and all the logistics, let’s get to the fun stuff – the best Cebu attractions!

I have divided this Cebu travel guide into two parts, Tourist Spots In Cebu South and Tourist Spots In Cebu North to help you craft together your own itinerary!

So without further ado, here is a complete list of the 15 Best Things To Do In Cebu!

SOUTH CEBU TOURIST SPOTS

Kawasan falls canyoneering.

The first South Cebu tourist spot is Kawasan Falls in Badian – without a doubt the most popular attraction on the entire island!

A visit to Kawasan Falls is the most adrenaline-pumping adventure to be had in the Philippines.

Whether it’s your first time canyoneering or not, the Kawasan Falls experience is not to be missed on your itinerary!

Kawasan Falls is located just 45 minutes drive from Moalboal in South Cebu.

I recommend pre-booking a  Kawasan Falls Tour Package online with Viator which includes return transfers from your accommodation in Moalboal so you won’t need to worry about the logistics.

Upon arriving at the Kawasan Canyoneering Headquarters, we met our guide Raul who got us fitted into the required safety equipment such as water shoes, life jackets, and helmets.

We took a ride on the back of a motorbike to the top of the mountain and before we knew it we were completely submerged in the first rock pool.

Soon after, Raul made us sit down at the edge of a one-meter cliff before he gently pushed us backward over a small set of falls into another rock pool below.

At this point, I knew we were in for an epic adventure!

We then continued navigating our way through knee-deep water that was as clear as crystal. The water trail took us through some amazing caves and natural rock slides.

There were also numerous cliff jumps ranging anywhere from three meters up to fourteen meters.

Do note that if you are afraid of heights, you’ve always got the option to walk around the cliffs instead of jumping.

When you reach the end of the canyon, it will bring you to the famous Kawasan Falls.

You can spend as much time as you like at Kawasan Falls, as there are about five different levels of waterfalls and several big cliffs jumps to keep you entertained.

OSMENA PEAK

Osmeña Peak is most famous for being the highest point on Cebu island and it’s one of the best spots in Cebu for an adventure.

Due to Osmeña Peak being one of the most popular Cebu tourist spots, the best time to visit is early in the morning for sunrise, and this way you will beat the crowds.

If you would like to book a tour to Osmeña Peak there is one that I can highly recommend which also includes the famous Kawasan Falls.

It’s a full-day tour that starts in Cebu City with a hotel pick-up, a guided tour to Osmena Peak plus Kawasan Falls, and then returning back to Cebu City.

If you visit Osmena Peak without a tour the entrance fee is 50 pesos and the parking fee costs 20 pesos, this is reasonable, being one of the places to go in Cebu for a few hours.

From the jump-off point, the hike to Osmena Peak is a short fifteen to twenty minutes along a narrow, rocky path passing by thinly forested areas and farmer’s crops.

What can you expect at Osmena Peak? One of the most beautiful places in Cebu… that’s what!!

At 1,013 meters above sea level, Osmena Peak boasts panoramic views of the coastlines on both sides of South Cebu and of course, the most fascinating hill formations that you will have likely never seen before.

Some say these rolling hills are reminiscent of the Chocolate Hills in Bohol as the landscape is quite similar. Though each of these spots is unique to its location.

In the deep valleys below Osmena Peak in Cebu, you can see vividly green fields of farmer’s crops and on a clear day, you can spot the neighboring islands of Negros Oriental and Bohol.

CASINO PEAK

The Casino Peak hike, often referred to as Lugsangan Peak, is an underrated tourist spot in Cebu.

If you are planning to visit Osmena Peak, I highly recommend taking the time to check out Casino Peak as well.

Chances are you might even like this viewpoint better and I guarantee there will be fewer people at Lugsangan Peak, with a view that is equally as amazing!

After you pay the 50 pesos entrance fee, It’s a short ten-minute hike to the summit of Casino Peak where you’ll be welcomed with panoramic views of nearby rolling hills and pristine coastline below.

Along the trail, you’ll likely see some goats grazing in the long grass and when you reach the plateau at the top, there is a crop field with many rows of cabbages.

You may think you have arrived at the top when you reach this point of the trek and I also thought the same because the trail isn’t clearly marked.

However, continue navigating your way around the rocky outcrop on the right-hand side and you’ll find the path to the Casino Peak summit.

The last section of the hike is a bit of a scramble up the rocks where we had to get our hands dirty but it was all worth it when we reached the summit of Casino Peak!

I must admit, I have never seen a viewpoint quite like the one from Casino Peak.

There is a narrow ridge along the top of Casino Peak that you can walk across but do so at your own risk. It’s quite a big drop if you were to slip up accidentally.

SWIMMING WITH WHALE SHARKS

Swimming with whale sharks is one of the main tourist spots in Cebu. Even though it’s a controversial activity, it’s also a very unique experience.

The Oslob Whale Shark experience is rated as one of the best places to visit in Cebu and to swim with whale sharks in the Philippines.

You can book your Whale Shark Tour online in advance with Viator and enjoy this tourist spot Cebu offers.

The Oslob whale shark watching area is no further than 50 meters from the beach. Before you know it you will arrive at the designated spot and the boatman will tell you to jump into the water.

As soon as you dive off the boat you will encounter these beautiful gentle giants face to face just beneath the surface.

Make sure to be mindful of your surroundings when swimming with the whale sharks so that you don’t accidentally touch them or kick them by accident as they are not shy and will swim right up next to the boat.

A common question that gets asked is if it’s safe to go swimming with whale sharks in Cebu and the answer is Yes, 100%.

Even though whale sharks are the biggest fish in the ocean that can grow up to 32ft and weigh 200 tonnes, they are very humble creatures and there’s nothing to be afraid of.

The Cebu whale sharks activity has been controversial since it started. However, the community in Oslob seems to be working hard to control and educate the crowds, and limit impacts on the whale sharks, keeping the site a great and worthy Cebu tourist spot.

Also, it’s worth noting that Oslob is one of the top 10 tourist destination in Cebu, and you’ll easily understand why!

SUMILON ISLAND

Sumilon Island is one of the best tourist spots in Cebu just 20 minutes by boat from Oslob.

It’s the best day trip or overnight stay you can do when exploring South Cebu in the Philippines.

The only access to Sumilon Island is by boat which departs daily from Mainland Bancogon in Oslob to Sumilon Island at 8:00 am, 9:30 am, and 11:00 am.

The return boat from Sumilon Island to Mainland Bancogo departs at 12:00 pm, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm, and 5:00 pm.

I recommend purchasing the Bluewater Sumilon Day Pass online in advance with Viator which gives you access to all of the facilities at Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort such as the infinity pool, private beach area, freshwater lagoon, and restaurant.

The Bluewater Sumilon Day Pass also includes other activities on Sumilon Island such as snorkeling, Sumilon sandbar, hiking trails, and return boat transfers from Oslob.

If you wish to spend a night on Sumilon Island, there is only one accommodation on the island and that is the Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort .

This 4-star resort features its very own private beach, a freshwater lagoon, an outdoor infinity pool, 2 restaurants, glamping tents, beachside cottages, and private villas!

The Sumilon Island sandbar is the most iconic attraction on the island and the best spot to watch the sunset!

Sumilon Island really proves itself as one of the best-kept Cebu tourist spots!

Sumilon Island sandbar is best visited on low tide when there is more exposed sand, though it is also just as good on high tide in my opinion.

Fine white sand and crystalline waters are what make the Sumilon sandbar so pristine!

Definitely stick around on the sandbar for sunset because as I said earlier, it’s the best location on the island to watch the last rays of the sun as it sets over the horizon.

TUMALOG FALLS

Tumalog Falls in Oslob is another one of the most popular tourist attractions in Cebu!

A stop at the Tumalog Falls is typically combined with the Oslob Whale Shark Tour , and I couldn’t recommend visiting this best tourist spot in Cebu.

There is one tour that I can recommend which is a full-day trip from Cebu City and it includes swimming with whale sharks in Oslob and a visit to Tumalog Falls.

This particular tour is the  most top-rated Whale Shark + Tumalog Falls Tour  with dozens of great reviews and thousands of bookings.

The Tumalog Falls entrance fee is 50 pesos if you plan to visit without a tour and the opening times are Monday to Sunday from 7 am to 4 pm.

Tumalog Falls is quite unique, featuring a mellow curtain of water falling down the face of a monolithic limestone cliff.

There is a large swimming area at the base of the falls where you can take a dip to cool off.

The color of the water in the basin is that classic milky blue tinge that the Philippines is most famous for!

There are change rooms and toilet facilities for guests to use and also a small sari sari store if you wish to buy some water and light snacks.

AGUINID FALLS

Aguinid Falls Cebu is one of the  most unique and exciting  waterfalls in the Philippines, and certainly a great Cebu tourist spot!.

The multi-tiered Aguinid Falls is one heck of an adventure and I highly recommend adding it to your list of things to do in Cebu!

Aguinid Falls is not quite as popular as Kawasan Falls just up the road, but the word is spreading quickly about this awesome tourist destination in Cebu that supports eco-tourism.

Aguinid Falls is located in the small village of Samboan in South Cebu. From Oslob, it’s a 30-minute drive and from Moalboal it’s approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes drive to reach Aguinid Falls.

The entrance fee to Aguinid Falls is 300 pesos which includes compulsory safety equipment (wet shoes, helmet, and life jacket), two guides, and also the tip for the guides.

It’s definitely not the cheapest Cebu waterfall I’ve been to but the money spent was well worth the adventure!

As I mentioned earlier, Aguinid Falls in Cebu is a multi-tiered waterfall with eight levels of falls to be exact. Eight freakin’ waterfalls, can you believe it?!

Although the locals say there are eight levels of falls, only six levels are currently accessible as they are still working to improve the trail to the higher levels.

This is not your typical waterfall where you take a short trek in, go for a dip and take photos, but rather an epic and very physical adventure that involves jumping, climbing ropes, and navigating your way through the cascading falls.

It took us around two hours to complete the Aguinid Falls tour but that included many stops to take photos. For the average person, it would take around one hour from start to finish.

It’s designed to fit the maximum size allowed for carry-on luggage, so you’ll never have to spend money on check-in baggage again!

BINALAYAN HIDDEN FALLS

Binalayan Falls, also referred to as Binalayan Hidden Falls, is one of the best waterfalls in the Philippines and arguable one of the coolest Cebu destinations!

Binalayan Falls is located in Samboan in South Cebu. From Oslob, it’s a 30-minute drive and from Moalboal it’s approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes drive to reach these falls.

The entrance fee is 100 pesos which includes a guide and there is also a 10 pesos parking fee. Tipping your guide is completely up to you, but somewhere between 50–100 pesos would do.

The first tier at Binalayan Falls features a shallow crystalline rock pool, a rest area with some make-shift benches and a tire swing hung from a tree.

It’s definitely worth taking a short break here in this tranquil little section of the trek.

The main falls at Binalayan Waterfall boast a 5oft tall rock face and the flow of water is divided into three separate streams that fill the basin beneath.

There is also a range of cliff-jumping spots on the left-hand side of the falls, but even this is a bit sketchy due to the pool below being quite shallow.

Only jump from a height you feel comfortable with, even if the guide encourages you to jump from a higher level just say no.

Apart from cliff jumping, you can hang out in the crystalline waters at the base of Binalayan Falls and explore the natural caves behind the falls.

My visit to Dao Falls in Samboan was  low-key one of the best adventures I had in South Cebu and I highly recommend adding this epic waterfall to your list of places to see.

Dao Waterfall is recognized as the tallest set of falls  in the Samboan region and the jungle trail trek is an epic adventure in itself.

The entrance fee to Dao Falls is 200 pesos which includes a guide and the parking fee is an additional 20 pesos.

Trekking to Dau Falls from the parking lot takes around twenty to thirty minutes including stops for photos.

It isn’t a difficult trek by any means though do note that  your feet will get wet  along this jungle trail.

In most parts, it requires walking through knee-deep water and I recommend bringing a pair of  slip-on waterproof shoes  for these sections.

An  impressive bamboo suspension bridge  surrounded by coconut palms stretches across the river and on the other side is the beginning of the jungle trail to Dau Waterfall.

Vines cover the canyon walls and  blue Gatorade-colored waters cascade seamlessly past us as we navigated our way toward Dao Waterfall.

The adventurous hike to Dao Falls, in my opinion, is what makes this location so unique.

There are many  turquoise rock pools  along the way that are well worth stopping at for a quick dip and this is where you’ll likely get your best photos.

When you reach the top you’ll be graced with the epic sight of Dao Falls  which towers 50 meters tall above the large catch basin.

The pools at the base of the falls aren’t quite as blue as the ones on the way up but it is still a  worthy spot for a swim  to cool off after the hike.

INAMBAKAN FALLS

Inambakan Falls in Ginatilan is at the top of my best Cebu waterfalls list for a couple of good reasons!

One being the blue Gatorade-colored springs and jungle surrounds at this location, and two is because there are multiple levels at Inambakan Falls which makes this one of the most epic Cebu tourist spots to explore.

Inambakan Falls is located in the small village of Ginatilan in South Cebu. Inambakan Falls Ginatilan is best visited from the nearby beach town of Oslob, which is approximately a 45-minute drive.

You can also visit Inambakan Falls from Moalboal and this drive takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The entrance fee at Inambakan Falls is 200 pesos (200 for the main falls but 50 pesos extra for each additional waterfall), and an additional 10 pesos for parking.

RELATED ARTICLE → 3 WEEKS PHILIPPINES ITINERARY

The hike down to the main falls takes no more than 5 minutes from the jump-off point, and the trail winds upstream until it emerges at the base of the 100-foot-tall Inambakan Falls.

My favorite feature of Inambakan falls is the milky blue pool of water in the catch basin which gets its color from the limestone cliffs that surround the falls. It seriously looks inviting enough to drink!

Once you’ve taken a dip in the milky blue waters at the main set of falls, continue hiking along the trail and up the stairs to the next few levels of these Ginatilan Falls.

You can stop in at the second level of Inambakan, which features a shallow rock pool right at the top of the main set of falls.

Watch your step on the rocks at this spot as they are very slippery, and it’s a long way down if you fall.

The level-up from here was my favorite because there are several cliff-jumping spots into a number of refreshing rock pools.

Continuing on, I followed the trail up a little higher to the top level of Inambakan Falls, which features a large swimming hole and more cliff-jumping spots.

The lush jungle that surrounds the area contrasts beautifully with the water and adds to the tranquillity at one of the best tourist spots in Cebu.

SWIM WITH SARDINES IN MOALBOAL

The Sardine Run in Moalboal is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and not to be missed on your list of things to do in Cebu!

Imagine swimming with millions of flashing silver sardines as they circulate around you in an almost hypnotic spectacle.

The Sardine Run is located in Moalboal in South Cebu and the schools of fish can be found just a stone’s throw from the shoreline on the edge of the reef.

A common spot where the sardines gather is just offshore from Panagsama Beach, the main beach in Moalboal.

To go swimming with the sardines all you need to do is rent a mask and snorkel from your accommodation or from a store in town and swim out just 30-50 meters to where you will find the masses of sardines swimming around.

The sardines move around in spherical shapes known as bait balls to trick their predators and they tend to stick close to the surface where the water temperature is warmer.

They might be intimidating and scary at first but all you need to do is relax and marvel at the sardines as they move around in large schools.

Swimming with the sardines in Moalboal is one of the best Cebu tourist attractions not to be missed!

NORTH CEBU TOURIST SPOTS

Malapascua island.

Malapascua Island is one of my favorite islands in the Philippines  which is world-renowned for its incredible scuba diving sites such as Monad Shoal where you can swim with thresher sharks.

I am not a diver myself but I can tell you now that there are many more  fantastic things to do in Malapascua  other than diving!

Malapascua Island is located in the Visayan Sea approximately 7km off the northernmost tip of Cebu Island in the Philippines.

The most common route is from Cebu City to Malapascua with the use of the public bus which takes around 4 hours, followed by a short 30-minute boat ride over to Malapascua Island.

I have put together the Ultimate Guide of Things To Do In Malapascua which includes the best beaches on the island, cliff jumping spots, best places to eat and drink, where to party, and of course diving with thresher sharks!

Also in my Malapascua Travel Guide, I have included detailed information on how to get to Malapascua, things to do in Malapascua, where to stay in Malapascua, and the best time to visit!

BANTAYAN ISLAND

Bantayan Island is an off-the-beaten-path tourist destination in Cebu and I highly recommend finding the time to visit this epic island paradise on your next visit to the Philippines…you won’t regret it!

Bantayan Island is located off the northwestern tip of Cebu Island and can be easily reached by boat from Malapascua Island and also by ferry from Hagnaya Port on mainland Cebu.

What once was a sleepy island back in the day, primarily home to fishermen and their families in small villages, is quickly becoming one of the most popular North Cebu tourist spots!

White sand beaches, saltwater lagoons, mangrove boardwalks, cave pools, old ruins, skydiving, and island hopping are just some of the awesome things you can expect to find on Bantayan Island.

I recommend spending 2 to 3 days on Bantayan to explore all four corners of the island and get a real taste of the slow-paced island life here in North Cebu.

VIRGIN ISLAND

Last but not least on this Cebu places to visit list is Virgin Island in North Cebu – Definitely one top tourist spot in Cebu as a whole.

Boasting crystal clear waters, cliff jumping, beach bars, and coastal boardwalks, this is one of the most beautiful places in Cebu not to be missed!

Virgin Island is best visited as a day trip from Bantayan Island and can be easily organized through the reception of your accommodation or at one of the tour desks dotted around Santa Fe.

The cost for the boat trip is around 200 pesos per person which includes Virgin Island and also the saltwater lagoon on Bantayan Island.

There are many things to do on Virgin Island to keep you entertained for an entire day such as cliff jumping, snorkeling the reef, beach bumming in a hammock, swimming in the shallow turquoise waters, and coastal strolls along the wooden boardwalk.

5 Best Beaches in Cebu

The list below is not a definitive list, as there’s so many amazing places this island has to offer. For now here are 5 beaches you should check out. But be assured that we will update this post from time to time and add more beaches to visit here:

1. Logon Beach in Malapascua

Logon Beach is just 80km going north of Cebu. It stands at Malapascua, one of the best spots in the province where you will forget how tired you are travelling just to get to the place. If you’re coming from Cebu City, expect to travel for about 3 hours to reach this beautiful paradise. For only 250-300 pesos transportation cost, you are going to have a wonderful beach experience in the province of Cebu.

2. Lambug Beach in Badian

The sand in Lambug Beach can’t seem to get any whiter. In order to reach this place, you will need to travel about 100 km southwest of Cebu on a tricycle or ‘habal-habal’ from Badian. It will only cost you less than 200 pesos to get there. Either you walk on the white sand or swim in the sea water, both activities are enjoyable.

3. Aloguinsan Hidden Beach in Aloguinsan

Haven’t found the hidden beach yet? If you go southwest of Cebu, you will find the Aloguisan Hidden Beach just 60 km away from Cebu City. The island is surrounded by big and healthy coconut trees, making the beach warmer despite the hot weather. This place is perfect for camping with friends and bonding with family and kids.

4. Santiago White Beach in Camotes Island

In Cebu, it’s very rare to find a beach that isn’t as white as a shiny pearl. The Santiago White Beach in Camotes will leave you in awe because of its enchanting beauty. The island is surrounded by bushes and rock formations. There are also a lot of resorts where you can stay the night in case you want to witness the sunrise and sunset at the beach.

5. Sta. Fe Beach in Bantayan Island

Last but not the least is Sta. Fe Beach in Bantayan which is about 150 km north from Cebu City. For as low as 200 pesos, you will get to explore the long white beach and enjoy the scenic sea. Bring your family and friends as you cross this beach off your list.

Cebu is indeed a wonderful paradise open to everyone who wants a great escapade. Don’t forget to include these beaches in your trip before you go back to your city life.

In case you feel that we should add a beach here that is not on this list, let us know in the comments section so we can check it out and maybe add it in this post!
