Coldplay’s Music of Spheres world tour is heading down under in 2024, and the globally renowned band is set to play their only New Zealand shows at Eden Park.

CEO of Eden Park, Nick Sautner, said, “Coldplay is one of the world’s most iconic and influential bands and we’re delighted they will be performing at Eden Park. This is a huge coup for Auckland and New Zealand. Coldplay’s global status, the band’s commitment to sustainability, and their ability to deliver unforgettable performances make them the perfect fit to perform at New Zealand’s national stadium.

Highlighting the impact of large-scale global events on the local economy, Nick Sautner added “Coldplay’s two shows in Perth attracted over 40,000 interstate visitors and close to 10,000 international fans. This underpins the immense appeal of Coldplay’s live performances and demonstrates the impact major events have on our hospitality and tourism sectors, employing thousands of casual and full-time staff.

“Today’s announcement comes after a record-breaking year for Eden Park and reinforces the stadium’s commitment to providing unforgettable experiences and memorable moments for our community and showcasing our city and country to the world. Fans can expect an extraordinary evening filled with music, lights, and the magic that only Coldplay can deliver.

“Coldplay’s commitment to reducing the impact global music tours have on our environment aligns with Eden Park’s focus on sustainability. The collaboration will showcase how two globally renowned brands can come together to create an unforgettable, environmentally-conscious event,” said Mr Sautner.

In an effort to make the Music of Spheres World Tour accessible to fans at an affordable price, Coldplay will be offering a limited number of Infinity Tickets for the shows. These tickets will cost $32 AUD / $32 NZD per ticket and will be restricted to a maximum of two tickets per purchaser, to be bought in pairs, ensuring fans enjoy the experience together with adjacent seating.

Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting Coldplay tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance –  Ticketmaster.co.nz

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as you are progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the  Waiting Room  and when you’re being pushed through  the Smart Queue  and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and when an act is this popular, sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

Post Malone will bring his If Y’all Weren’t Here, I’d be Crying to Auckland in November 2023. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.c o.nz

Coldplay announces 2024 NZ show: Dates, tickets and presale information

The last time Coldplay took to the stage in New Zealand was in 2016 for the Head Full of Dreams tour - now the band have announced they’ll return in 2024.

The Grammy Award-winning band will take their Music of the Spheres world tour to Sydney and Melbourne next year before heading across the ditch to Auckland’s Eden Park, with the downunder leg of the tour set to take place in October and November 2024.

It marks the first time Coldplay will perform in the three cities since 2016.

It comes after Kiwi fans shared their disappointment over Aotearoa seemingly being left off the list of countries on the world tour, when Coldplay announced in May that they would play in Perth in November.

Approached by media at the time, a spokesperson for Live Nation said there were “presently no plans for the band to return to NZ”.

A presale for tickets starts at 10am on Wednesday, November 29, with the general sale going live on Friday December 1 and 10am.

The Music of the Spheres tour has broken records so far, with the band playing shows for more than 7 million fans since it kicked off in March 2022 - the largest number of any tour since the Covid-19 pandemic.

It’s proved hugely popular with both fans and critics, netting the band Favourite Touring Artist at the American Music Awards in 2022 and Tour of The Year at the iHeartRadio Awards this year.

The band recently issued a statement claiming the Music of the Spheres world tour had produced 47 per cent less CO2 emissions than their last stadium tour, having planted one tree for each of the seven million fans they’ve played for around the world.

Coldplay will perform two shows at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on October 30 and 31, 2024, then heading to Sydney’s Accor Stadium for two more on November 6 and 7.

They’ll take to iconic sporting venue Eden Park on November 13, with PinkPantheress and Emmanuel Kelly forming the support acts for all the Australia and New Zealand shows.

The Spinoff

One Question Quiz

Pop Culture April 23, 2024

Is olivia rodrigo about to announce a new zealand show an investigation.

avatar

  • Share Story

The ‘Vampire’ singer has never visited our part of the world, but that might all be about to change. We assess the evidence.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour is pulling in massive crowds as it whips around the US and Europe, even helping to catapult regular supporting act Chappell Roan to abrupt stardom. But so far, there has been no suggestion the Grammy Award winner will ever make it to New Zealand.

That may all be about to change. The Spinoff has received information (seen a TikTok, then done some Googling) that the ‘Driver’s License’ singer could finally be winging her way to the Southern Hemisphere. If true, New Zealand audiences would be able to see the concert that has been clogging up many a TikTok feed since February.

An appearance by Rodrigo on our shores would undoubtedly be one of the hottest tickets of the year. Sza recently sold out three Spark Arena shows, while Coldplay and Pink have taken over Eden Park. The Taylor Swift phenomenon injected millions into the Australian economy, while draining hundreds from fans’ (including mine) bank accounts, when her Eras Tour landed in Melbourne and Sydney two months ago.

Back to Sza, days before Live Nation announced her tour, an article appeared  in print  by the NZ Herald announcing the tour. The article wasn’t published online (strange and unusual) and at the time, there was no evidence of a Sza visit to NZ. Was it a case of accidentally breaking an embargo? Probably. But then a tour  was  announced shortly after. Perhaps it was a deliberate leak to stir up attention. Maybe this little investigation is just repeating the cycle.

But why do we believe Rodrigo is about to drop New Zealand dates? Let’s assess what we know.

The evidence

This TikTok video . A TikTok user shows what happened when they Googled “Olivia Rodrigo NZ”. It brings up a link to Live Nation’s New Zealand website advertising a Guts World Tour date for October 19 at Spark Arena. “Was this always here or am I tripping?” asks the TikTok user. I firmly believe they are not tripping.

The Live Nation website. When I Googled the same, I did not see a date displayed. However, the link was still the top result. It now takes you to a 404 error page. But if you look in the URL, it contains the crucial information: “auckland/2024-10-19”.How do Americans, of which Rodrigo is one, write their dates? With the month first, then the date. October 19, 2024.

coldplay world tour nz

There is a waitlist. At 7am, the top result on Google was still a page for the Guts World Tour. Now, it’s a Live Nation waitlist asking: “Do you want to be the first to know when Olivia Rodrigo is touring New Zealand?” Waitlists can be just a way to farm email addresses. But it could also be a sign that something is coming.

The tour name. The tour is called the Guts “World Tour”. The world, famously, includes New Zealand (even if many maps do not acknowledge this “fact” ).

WAIT WHAT IS THIS TIKTOK SHOWING ME THAT OLIVIA RODRIGO IS COMING TO NZ????? — j (@gameovermydude) April 22, 2024

Rodrigo promised she’d come to Australia this year. Rodrigo was set to visit Australia for a promotional visit last year. That was cancelled, but fans of the singer were told that she’d be heading down “in 2024” . It is now “2024” and Australia is very close to New Zealand.

Rodrigo really loves Glassons. In 2021, Stuff reported that Rodrigo had been snapped wearing a corset from Glassons. The New Zealand brand has begun to extend itself into other markets, including the US, catching the singer’s attention. If Rodrigo visits New Zealand this year, she could pop out to Westfield St Luke’s (walking distance from Eden Park) and visit a Glassons store.

Olivia Rodrigo transposed over a photo of Glassons

Taylor Swift’s album dropped last week. There are rumours that Rodrigo and Swift are in some sort of celebrity feud. What better way to take attention away from the world’s biggest pop star than to announce your own concerts in New Zealand? Then there is the connection between one of Rodrigo’s biggest hits ‘Get Him Back’ and Swift’s new B-side ‘I’mgonnagetyouback’. Perhaps Rodrigo wants to Get Her Back by touring in a country that was snubbed by Swift?

The Guts “World Tour” is currently set to end in August. August is two months before October, meaning there’s a big wide gap in her schedule that coincides with the rumoured dates. That would give the singer time to relax, recover and then pop down under. It is well-established that pop stars like about two months in between tour legs.

What do the tour promoters say?

The Spinoff asked Live Nation for comment earlier this morning. We haven’t yet heard back. That in itself is suspicious. If this wasn’t true, would they not instantly dismiss it in order to prevent us from publishing our dossier of evidence (see: above)? Or have we fallen into their free publicity trap as obvious as Taylor Swift on an e-scooter ?

Billie Eilish announces Hit Me Hard and Soft world tour, no NZ dates planned

Billie Eilish has announced a major world tour to support her upcoming third album Hit Me Hard and Soft , but it does not include any New Zealand dates.

The 'Bad Guy' singer will be playing 12 shows in Australia as part of the tour in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane throughout February 2025.

Eilish has come under fire from Kiwi fans who feel they've been left out of the tour.

"New Zealand, dawg???" one commented on her Instagram post which detailed the tour.

More from Newshub

"Like girl, why [the f**k] does Australia get 12 shows and we get none?" another wrote.

Another noted Eilish had previously played New Zealand.

"Bro right, she came last two times why not this time?" they commented, referencing her Spark Arena gigs in Auckland in 2019 and 2022.

Another commented that there was a month-long gap between the end of her Australian dates and her next set of gigs in Stockholm, saying: "Bestie there's a month between [Australia] and her next tour, I reckon she'll slot a few shows in there."

However, in announcing the shows, promoter Frontier Touring confirmed all the dates were revealed, potentially indicating there would be no further shows added to the tour.

One other commenter believed Taylor Swift's recent Eras Tour dates in Australia had set a precedent for bands. When the pop star announced dates for that tour in 2023, she had no New Zealand gigs on her Down Under visit, yet still broke records with what became the most successful world tour ever.

"She saw NZ swarm to AU for Taylor and is expecting us to do the same," they wrote.

Newshub has approached Frontier Touring for comment.
