Itinerary 1: 6 day from luxor to aswan, day 1 – sonesta amirat dahabeya embarkation and luxor east bank tour.

When you get to the airport or railway station in Luxor, your tour manager will meet you, and then your Egyptologist tour guide will accompany you on a tour to see 3 amazing ancient attractions on the West Bank, and also 1 on the East Bank. On the West Bank, you will visit Valley of the Kings, an ancient necropolis where royalty and nobles from the New Kingdom were laid to rest, including the boy king, Tutankhamen. You will also visit the spectacular rock-cut Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and then the Colossi of Memnon, before moving on to the East Bank to see the vast Karnak Temple complex.

After your tour ends, you will then be transferred to Esna where you will be boarding the Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise, a luxurious 5-Star river yacht. The remainder of the day will now be yours to enjoy as you wish, and you will spend the first night of your cruise on the water at Esna

Meals Included: Lunch and Dinner

DAY 2 – Sail to Edfu and Overnight at El Fouza Island

Today the Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya will set out from Esna very early, and your breakfast will be served while sailing to Edfu. When you reach Edfu, your guide will accompany on another excursion, this time to see the Ancient World’s best-preserved structure, the Temple of Horus. To make this an even more enjoyable experience, you will visit the site by means of a horse drawn carriage.

Following your visit to the temple, you will be taken to stroll around Edfu’s huge bazaar, after which you will return to the Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise. With everyone back on board, you will sail silently on to our private El Fouza Island. Tonight your dinner will be served to you while sitting at the water’s edge, and you will spend the night aboard the ship alongside the island.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 3 – Sail to the Temple of Gebel el Silsila

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast while sailing slowly to Gebel el Silsila where the Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise will then tie up directly alongside the ancient Speos of Hormheb which makes for an absolutely spectacular setting. This is one of the less frequented attractions due to the fact that the larger Nile cruise ships are not allowed to stop here.

In the evenings, this ancient site is beautifully illuminated, and if the weather permits, you will be served dinner this evening inside the temple grounds. If this is not possible, then you will be able to enjoy dinner on the boats upper deck, with the illuminated temple as a backdrop. There will also be some music playing to match the occasion. Enjoy the serenity and tranquility, and have a good night’s sleep on the water alongside the illuminated temple.

DAY 4 – Leisure Cruise to Kom Ombo Temple

Today’s breakfast will be served on the river while the Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Cruise is sailing slowly towards Kom Ombo where your tour guide will be taking you to see the splendid Temple of Kom Ombo. While this is described as being a single temple, it is technically two identical temples in one. When you visit, you will notice that there is literally two of everything, including 2 sanctuaries, 2 halls, 2 entrances, and etc.

The reason for this is because the complex was built and dedicated to two different gods: Haeroris the falcon-headed god, and Sobek the crocodile god.

After your tour of this temple, you will return to the boat, and it will then sail to another small island in the Nile where it will remain for the night.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

DAY 5 – Sail to Aswan and Aswan Tour

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the water while the Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise sails quietly towards Aswan. Depending on the wind, you should reach Aswan at about 10 AM. Once in Aswan, your tour guide will then take you to see some of the area’s highlights, including the huge Unfinished Obelisk and the ancient Temple of Philae.

The last evening of your cruise is what we call an Egyptian Evening of Fun. This includes dressing up in a traditional Gallabeyah, and of course there will be Egyptian food and nice Arabic music to match the mood. The last night of your cruise will be spent on the water at Aswan.

DAY 6 – Princess Donia Dahabiya Disembarkation and Departure

Enjoy your last breakfast aboard this elegant river yacht, and then it will be time for final disembarkation, after which you will be escorted to the airport or train station by our tour representative. Your unforgettable 6-day Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise is now over, so we will have to bid you farewell, and wish you a very safe and pleasant onward journey.

Meals Included: Breakfast

Itinerary 2: 8 DAY FROM LUXOR TO ASWAN

When you reach the airport or the train station in Luxor, your tour manager will be there to meet you, and to escort you to the luxurious Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya for embarkation. Enjoy a nice lunch aboard the boat, and one of our Egyptologist tour guides will take you to see two fantastic ancient attractions on the East Bank.

First, you will visit the vast Amon-Ra complex, also known as Karnak Temple, and from there you will head to Luxor Temple which is one of the best-preserved ancient temples in Egypt. Following this visit, you will return to your 5-Star river yacht, and you will have the remainder of the day to yourself. You will also be spending the first night of your cruise on the water at Luxor.

DAY 2 – West Bank Excursion and Sail to Esna

Enjoy your breakfast aboard the Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya, and then you will leave the boat with our tour guide who will take you to see some of the very best historical monuments on Luxor’s West Bank. During this tour, your first stop will be at Valley of the Kings, the ancient royal necropolis where Tutankhamen’s still intact tomb was discovered in 1922.

After Valley of the Kings, our guide will take you to see the magnificent rock-cut temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and from there you will head to another incredible ancient relic, the Temple of Medinat Habu. Finally, as you head back to the boat, you will also visit the Colossi of Memnon.

Once back on board the boat, it will start sailing towards Esna, where it will tie up for the night a short distance away from Esna so that you can enjoy a night of perfect tranquility on the water.

DAY 3 – Leisure Day with Overnight Stay alongside a Small Nile Island

This day of your Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya cruise has been reserved for a full day of uninterrupted leisure time. Once you have finished enjoying your breakfast, your luxurious river yacht will slowly and silently sail towards a small island in the Nile, not far from Edfu. When you reach this little island, the boat will tie up, and you will be able enjoy another blissful night on the water under the stars.

DAY 4 – Sail to Horus Temple at Edfu

Enjoy another leisurely breakfast on the river while you are sailing to Edfu where your tour guide will accompany you on another excursion, this time to see the ancient Greco-Roman Temple of Horus. This is the best-preserved temple in Egypt thanks to the fact that it became buried beneath the desert sand, and it remained buried for about 2,000 years before being rediscovered and subsequently excavated.

Following your visit to the temple, you will return to the boat, and it will then sail towards another small island where it will tie up for the night.

DAY 5 – Sail to Kom Ombo, Overnight alongside a Nile Island

Enjoy breakfast on the water and a lovely relaxing cruise to another tiny island not far from Kom Ombo. On arrival, the Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya will tie up alongside the island, and the remainder of the day will be yours to enjoy as you wish.

DAY 6 – Kom Ombo Temple and Sail to Aswan

In the morning while you are having breakfast, the boat will sail on to Kom Ombo where you guide will take you to see the remarkable Temple of Kom Ombo. This is one of the most unique and most intrigue ancient temples because it was dedicated to two different gods: Sobek and Haeroris. To make this possible, the builders had to build two of everything, resulting in a complex which is essentially two temples in one.

After spending some time at the temple, you will return to the boat, and it will then sail in the direction of Aswan, and it will tie up for the night near to Aswan Bridge

DAY 7 – Aswan Tour and Leisure Time

Today the Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya will sail into Aswan quite early and then shortly after breakfast, you and your tour guide head out to see three fascinating attractions: the Aswan High Dam, the Old Dam, and the magnificent ancient Temple of Philae.

The Temple of Philae was moved in entirety from its original location to its current location on higher ground. This was called for in order for it to be saved from the rising waters of Lake Nasser following the construction of the Aswan High Dam which was completed in 1977.

After your morning tour, you will head back to the boat, and the rest of the day will be yours to enjoy as you wish. You will be spending the last night of your Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya Nile cruise on the water at Aswan

DAY 8 – Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya Disembarkation and Departure

Wake up on the water in Aswan and enjoy one last breakfast aboard this bespoke river yacht, and then it will be time for you to gather your belongings so that you can disembark. After you have disembarked our tour representative will then escort you to Aswan Airport or Aswan Train Station for your final departure.

Your Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya cruise has now come to an end, so it will be time for us to bid you farewell and wish you a safe and pleasant onward journey.

Our Happy Customers

Travel has helped us to understand the meaning of life and it has helped us become better people. Each time we travel, we see the world with new eyes.

Absolutely mind blowing. A definite must see. We flew from Aswan after I contact them, as I did not want to sit in car for hours with my 10-year-old daughter. Just so much history and ancient love. You cannot miss this one thing if you are in Cairo. The rocks are just HUGE, so special.

What is a Nile Cruise?

A Nile Cruise is a river cruise on the Nile, the most common route between Luxor and Aswan in Upper Egypt. The ship makes several stops at different stations to allow its passengers to visit the ancient Egyptian monuments. It is the best way to take a trip into the past to get close to the pharaonic culture and enjoy the breathtaking nature of the Nile Valley.

As already mentioned, most Nile cruise ships operate between Luxor and Aswan. The trip south from Luxor to Aswan takes 5 days and vice versa from Aswan to Luxor takes 4 days.

During the journey, the most important monuments in Upper Egypt are visited. In Luxor, one visits the Luxor temple and the Karnak temple, one of the biggest temple arrangements of Egypt on the eastern Nile shore Theben east. On the western side in Thebes-West the temple of Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon, and the Valley of the Kings.

In Aswan, the dam, the Unfinished Obelisk, and the Philae Temple on Elephant Island are visited. Between both cities, the Horus Temple in Edfu and the double temple of the two gods Sobek and Haroeris in Kom Ombo are visited.

When the ship docks at Aswan, passengers can make an optional excursion to Abu Simbel on Lake Nasser to visit the impressive temple complex of Ramses II.

There are very few ships that sail the route in a different period and then make a few more sights, but here we have introduced you to what most ships do.

Also, there is the big or long Nile cruise that goes from Aswan or Luxor to Cairo or of course vice versa. This takes place however only at certain times because of the Nile level, which is why most visitors to Egypt prefer a short stay in Cairo, after or before the Nile cruise in Upper Egypt, if you want to see the sights of all Egypt.

How does the Nile Cruise work?

The duration of a Nile cruise varies according to the route the ship takes. There is either the small Nile cruise, which only goes in Upper Egypt from Luxor to Aswan or vice versa, and the long or large Nile cruise, which goes from Cairo to Luxor or Aswan and vice versa. From Luxor to Aswan it takes 5 days and from Aswan to Luxor 4 days.

It is also possible to go from Luxor to Aswan and back to Luxor and in this case the trip takes 8 days. The same is valid of course for the journey Aswan-Aswan. The ships that make the long Nile cruise are considerably less than those that travel between Luxor and Aswan, and besides, this cruise is only possible at certain times of the year due to the level of the Nile.

There are very few fleets of ships, among which the two Oberoi Nile cruise ships Philae and Zahra, which make the route between Luxor and Aswan at a different time of year. They sail from Luxor to Aswan or vice versa in 6 or 7 days. With all the rest of the ships the journey takes the same time as mentioned above, the only difference is the day of the week when the respective ship starts the journey.

On the way between Aswan and Luxor, one visits different beautiful sights for example, in Thebes-East (Karnak and Luxor Temple), then in Thebes-West (Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, Memnon Colossus). Afterward one visits the legendary Horus Temple in Edfu and the double temple in Kom Ombo. Do not miss the chance and take part in one of our Nile cruises.

Which deck to choose on the Nile Cruise?

Actually, you are only in the cabin for sleeping and therefore you should not pay too much attention to it, but we still want to give you some useful tips and advice on how to choose the right cabin.

In general, cabins in the middle deck are the most popular because it is the quietest there. On the upper deck, you will be disturbed by the pattering on the sun deck and you can hear it when tables or sunbeds are pushed.

On the Nile deck, you may hear the engines in the cabins in the stern. But it is important to mention that the ship almost always sails during the day and therefore the engines are off at night while the guests are sleeping.

For the same reason it is rather unimportant on which side your cabin is, because the ship sails almost exclusively during the day, you will have a view on the Nile anyway.

During the times when your ship will be onshore and the view from another ship is blocked on one side, you will either be on a sightseeing tour or you will sleep.

As we told you above, the guests are in their cabins almost only at night to sleep, otherwise, you are either on a tour, in the restaurant for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, in the bar, or lying by the pool on the sun deck.

When is the best time for a Nile Cruise?

The Nile Cruise is a river cruise on the Nile, the most frequent between Luxor and Aswan in Upper Egypt. The ship makes several stops at different stations to allow its passengers to visit the ancient Egyptian monuments. It is the best way to take a trip into the past to get close to the pharaonic culture and enjoy the breathtaking nature of the Nile Valley.

The best time for a Nile cruise in Upper Egypt can not be determined, because it depends on the interests of the visitor and his resilience in heat. One could only say that the Nile Valley in summer (May to September) can be too hot for most European visitors. The temperatures in Luxor and Aswan are about 45° and therefore it is not suitable for a Nile cruise especially for people who cannot stand the heat or who have circulation problems.

In the months from October to April, the maximum temperature is 30° and therefore one could say that this is the optimal time for a Nile cruise. If you plan bathing stay at the Red Sea after or before the Nile cruise in Upper Egypt, you should consider that it can be rather too cold for bathing in the winter months (December to February). At this time the temperatures in Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheik can sink up to 10°.

But it is also worth mentioning that the heat in Upper Egypt is dry and that the above mentioned high temperatures are only under the sun and that it is mostly bearable in the shade. Therefore, despite the heat, some travelers still decide to go on a Nile cruise in the summer months.

The ships are seldom fully occupied and one can avoid the crowds at the monuments. Most of the sightseeing tours take place early in the morning and the tour guide always looks for a place in the shade if he wants to explain something to the group. Also, the prices fall at this time and one finds a lot of special offers for a Nile cruise in Upper Egypt.

What clothes do you pack for the Nile Cruise?

Every place has its matching clothes, even on the sundeck. Because of this, you should consider appropriate clothing if you want to travel. For example, half-naked during temple visits are not normal and customary. On high-quality luxury Nile cruises, you can choose something more festive to wear. Your suitable, carefully chosen clothes will distinguish you from the ship’s restaurant crew and you will, therefore, follow the dress code correctly.

Every place has its suitable clothes, even on the sun deck. Because of this, you should consider appropriate clothing when you travel. For example, half-naked during temple visits are not normal and customary. On high-quality luxury Nile cruises, you can choose something more festive to wear.

Your suitable, carefully chosen clothes will distinguish you from the ship’s restaurant crew and you will, therefore, follow the dress code correctly.

As far as women are concerned, unlike most Upper Egyptian cities, it is quite alright for women to walk in shorts and spaghetti straps, or to lie down comfortably in Bikini by the pool. Luxor and Aswan are two of the most important tourist destinations in the world and their inhabitants have been used to the European way of dressing for a long time and show a great tolerance towards different cultures.

However, shorts and flip-flops or sandals are forbidden for men as well as for women in the restaurant of the ship. You do not necessarily have to wear a suit or an evening dress for lunch, but you are expected to wear at least a pair of jeans and a T-shirt.

Onboard, the program includes a Nubian show, Galabya party, or belly dance show. There are nice costumes, which you can buy with the help of your guide from the market during the excursions.

On excursions, you should pay attention to appropriate clothing, so miniskirts or shorts are not recommended. Half-naked through the temples does not go down well.

A further hint would be sturdy shoes for the sightseeing tours. Please note that the monuments you will visit are located in the desert. You will also often have to walk a distance until you reach the temple or until you have seen all parts of the huge temple complexes. Many women in Egypt wear a hijab/headscarf, but this is not required for tourists. You will need to cover your head with a headscarf when you visit a mosque.

Don’t miss the chance and choose one of our Egypt Nile Cruise Packages, where you will learn about the ancient fascinating history.

Tipping on a Nile cruise

Is it customary to tip on a Nile cruise? As is common in the cruise world, it is customary, or rather expected, to tip on board. The staff on the ship will do their best to make the stay of their guests as pleasant as possible, and are therefore happy to receive the tip in appreciation of this.

Is it obligatory to tip on board? You can never say that tipping is obligatory, but unfortunately, it has come to pass that the staff of the ships see tipping as a fixed part of their remuneration due to the low payments in Egypt. But as already mentioned, this is not mandatory and if you think at the end of the trip, which is very rarely the case, that the staff has not earned the tip, then tell the Reileiter and tell him the reason right away.

Who should I give the money to? The tour guide will come to you at the end of the trip and ask nicely and politely about the tip, which is collected from the guests and then distributed among the crew. It is therefore collected so that everyone gets something because the guests do not come into contact with all the staff on board. It would be possible to tip the bartender directly during the cruise, but in this case, it would be unfair to cooks or machinists you don’t usually meet.

How much should I tip? There are of course no exact figures as to how much you should pay, but about 5$ per day per person, for every adult in the family, is reasonable. If you think this amount is too much, imagine there are about 50 people on board to make sure you feel comfortable during the trip.

8 Day Aswan to Luxor Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya Nile Cruise

" * " indicates required fields

Day 1 – Arrival, Embarkation and Leisure Time

Arrive in Aswan, at either the airport or the railway station, and your tour manager will be there to meet you and to offer any assistance if need be. They will then escort you inside a clean and modern air-conditioned vehicle to the place where you will be boarding the magnificently appointed Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya which will be your luxury home on the water throughout you 8-Day Aswan to Luxor Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise.

Upon boarding, the crew will greet you, and shortly afterward, you will be served your first delicious onboard lunch. There are no excursions planned for this day, so once you are finished your lunch, you can enjoy the remainder of the day as you wish. Take advantage of the boat’s world-class amenities, or simply relax and unwind outside on the upper deck.

When evening time arrives, the crew will begin serving a lovely dinner, and then you will again have to rest of the night to yourself. Tonight you will sleep onboard while the ship is moored on the banks of the Nile River.

Meals Included: Lunch and Dinner

Day 2 – Aswan Tour and Sail to Kom Ombo

After enjoying a very pleasant breakfast onboard the boat, you will disembark for a relatively short sightseeing tour which will see you visiting Philae Temple; the Aswan High Dam, and the Old Dam. Philae Temple is a particularly fascinating ancient temple, with a history to match. It is also worth noting that the entire complex was originally at a different location. It had to be moved to higher ground (its current location) in order to save it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser that resulted from the building of the Aswan High Dam.

After visiting this amazing temple that was dedicated the goddess Isis, you will be taken to see the actual Aswan High Dam itself which was completed in 1971, and subsequently gave birth to one of the world’s largest man-made lakes, Lake Nasser. Next, you will enjoy a brief visit to the Old Dam which was completed in 1902, and then you will return to the waiting Sonesta Amirat Dahabeya.

Once you have boarded, you will be served a delicious lunch, and it will sail towards Kom Ombo, arriving at around noon, depending on wind conditions. Your Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise won’t tie up at Kom Ombo itself, but rather, it will tie up nearby.

Today, the afternoon is all about leisure and relaxation, so enjoy the rest of the day as you wish, and then in the evening the crew will serve up another wonderful onboard dinner. You will be sleeping on the water in your current location tonight.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day 3 – Kom Ombo Temple and Leisure Time

Enjoy a good hearty breakfast onboard, and then you will sail a short distance to Kom Ombo, where you will disembark for a visit to the fascinating Ptolemaic Kom Ombo temple that was dedicated to Sobek the crocodile god, and Horus the falcon-headed god. Great care had to be taken when this temple complex was being constructed because everything that was built for the one god, also had to be built for the other god, and everything had to be perfectly identical.

After your tour of this amazing site, you will return to your boat, and it will start sailing towards a tiny nearby island where it will remain tied up overnight. A good will be served along the way, and in the evening you will once again enjoy a wonderful onboard dinner. Tonight you will be sleeping on the water alongside the island.

Day 4 – Sail to Edfu and Edfu Temple Excursion

Your Dahabiya will begin sailing relatively early today, and the crew will serve breakfast while you are heading towards Edfu. Enjoy some quality relaxation time, followed by another fine lunch, and then you will disembark at Edfu for a visit to the beautifully well-preserved Edfu Temple.

This temple was buried beneath the sand for approximately 2,000 years, and it is because of this that has been preserved so nicely. It is also one of the largest temples of the ancient world, and a trip to this site is a trip you probably won’t forget in a hurry.

After your temple excursion, you will be taken back to your river yacht, and it will once again sail to a peaceful little island in the Nile where it will be moored for the night. Enjoy a delightful onboard dinner surround by peace and tranquility, and spend the night sleeping on the tranquil waters alongside the island.

Day 5 – Sail to Esna and Leisure Time

Today your Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise is all about leisure and relaxation, so wake up and enjoy a leisurely breakfast while you are sailing silently towards Esna. As you might expect, you will be served a nice lunch in the afternoon. At some point in the afternoon, your Dahabiya will pass through a lock which makes it possible for boats to continue on to Esna and beyond. However, rather than heading directly to Esna after passing through the lock, you will instead head for another small island.

On arrival, the Sonesta Amirat will tie up, and you will enjoy another delicious dinner surrounded by nothing apart from absolute serenity. Spend your evening as you wish, and enjoy a blissful night’s sleep on the water in the comfort of your luxurious cabin.

Day 6 – Sail to Luxor and Luxor Excursions

Another fine breakfast will be waiting to greet you when you wake up. Enjoy your meal while your Dahabiya is sailing slowly towards Luxor. In the afternoon, at around midday, the crew will once again serve up a first-class lunch, and you will then disembark in Luxor for a visit to two unforgettable sites.

First, you will be taken to visit temple complex of Amon-Ra at Karnak. This vast complex, which is also often referred to as Karnak Temple, is the second most visited ancient monuments in Egypt. The complex is full of fascinating things to see, but many would argue that the massive hypostyle hall with its 137 columns is the most impressive feature of this site.

Next, you will visit the splendid Luxor Temple which was built during the 28th Dynasty in 1400 BC. This site is also a complex rather than a solitary temple, and many of the chapels and other building you will see there were built by different pharaohs, including a number of the better-known ones such as Ramesses II; Ramesses III, and the boy king, Tutankhamen.

By the time your tour is over, the sun will be starting to dip, so you will head back to your Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise. Once on board, you will have some time to shower and get freshened up, and then it will be time to sit down for another fine meal. Tonight you will sleep on the water, while the boat is moored in Luxor.

Day 7 – Sightseeing Extravaganza in Luxor

Today is definitely going to be a day you will never forget, but before the fun begins, you will enjoy a nice breakfast onboard. Once you have finished eating, it will be time for you to disembark, for an excursion that will see you visiting a number of Egypt’s most cherished historical attractions.

Your first visit today will be to Valley of the Kings, an ancient royal necropolis consisting of numerous tombs that were constructed for different pharaohs; some of their family members and some privileged nobles. This is also the site where Tutankhamen’s tomb was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter.

Next, you will proceed to an adjacent site known as Valley of the Queens. This too was a royal necropolis, but the tombs you see here were constructed for queens and their family members, and other women of high standing.

Medinet Habu Temple will be your next stop, and it will probably be one of your favorite stops because it well and truly is a magnificent site. Here you will find more than 7,000 square meters of wall reliefs which have provided an incredible amount of insight with regard to ancient Egyptian history. Your last stop for the day will be at the Colossi of Memnon, a name given to two towering stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III.

Even though you will have returned to your Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise during the day for a short break and some lunch, you will no doubt be feeling a little bit fatigued, so it will be time for you to once again return to the boat so that you can freshen up and then enjoy a nice well-deserved dinner onboard. Tonight you will be sleeping on the water at Luxor.

Day 8 – Breakfast and Disembarkation

Today is sadly the last day of your Aswan to Luxor Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya Nile Cruise, but before you say goodbye, first sit down to one last breakfast on board, and think about all the wonderful things you have seen during your cruise along the mighty Nile River.

After breakfast, it will be time for all passengers to disembark, and we will have one of our friendly tour representatives standing by to meet you, and to escort you to the airport or to the railway station, depending on what your future travel plans are.

We believe beyond all doubt that you will have had the time of your life, but if anything left you feeling disappointed in any way, our representative would love to hear about it so that we can take steps to a Nile cruise experience even better than what it already is.

The Sonesta Amirat Dahabia - we would love to do it all over again!

The cruise starts from either Luxor to Aswan or Aswan to Luxor. We sailed from Luxor to Aswan - flying to Luxor from Cairo and from Aswan to Cairo. It was a fantastic adventure!. The Dahabeya's are the only vessel that can stop and moor overnight along the Nile, other larger cruises are shorter as they must moor at certain stops that will accommodate their size. The Sonesta Amirat Dahabiya has 7 cabins and 2 suites at the back with open deck. We booked the regular cabin, which is really small and once on board we upgraded to the suite with deck. The addition price for that was about $300.00 per night. Very expensive but really worth it for us - we enjoyed it! The Dahaeya itself is quite old but in pretty good shape. We loved it - due to low tourism at this point in time we were the only couple on board so it was like having our own private Nile Yacht! Sailing from Luxor to Aswan is against the current and we did not have many sailing days as the wind was low so we were mostly towed by a small tug boat, but it was much quieter than the larger triple decker cruise ship that passed us by burning their smelly diesel. The food was amazing - breakfast includes fresh fruit, buns and pastries, made to order omelettes, ham, cereal, yogurt . Lunch, if you are on board is lighter with soups, sandwiches, salad etc. Supper is 3 courses, soup or salad, main entree could include chicken breast, steak, fresh fish, and desert. Meal are included but alcoholic beverages are not and they are expensive usually around $13.00USD per cocktail. Bring your own and keep it in your room. Our crew was amazing - Mahmood, the cruise director, Moody our bartender, Henny our cabin steward were all so wonderful to us! They moored on an island one night and hosted us with a barbeque on shore and entertained us with a little traditional Egyptian music and singing. Sitting on deck and cruising down the Nile was a once in a lifetime adventure. We started in Luxor touring the Karnak and Luxor Temples, the next day over to Necropolis of Thebes, Valley of the Kings, the Colossos of Memnon, and the Temple of Hatshepsut. Then sailed to Edfu via the Esna Lock which was so interesting - I've never gone through a lock. Then we visited the Ptolomaic Temple of Horus. So beautiful - it was saved from the rising flood waters! Each day was a dream and it was so nice to come back to the Dahabeya after a long day and relax on deck and watch the sun set.

Thank you very much Mohamed for sharing your experience with us

I visited Aswan to Luxor for 3 nights and 4 days with Gate2Egypt Tours and I absolutely have to rate it at the highest level. Ashraf was amazing to deal with, the tour was well structured, informative and above all hassle free. This was my second Nile cruise tour in Egypt and they are not all the same. The key differentiator is the tour guide and the quality of service you are provided! I would highly recommend Gate2Egypt Tours.

Hi Dear friend Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us . Ashraf ...

We visited Great Pyramids of Giza, Sakkara and Memphis, Mr. Emad G. was our tour guide, he was good in English we like him by his manner and his good heart. Then we flew to upper Egypt with Mr. Ashraf picked us up from the Aswan airport, he took us to places and explained everything and also give us free time to enjoy the moments during each visit. These 2 guys made our stay enjoyable and a remarkable one.

Hi, Dear friend.thank you so much for your time to write this kind words about us . Ashraf ..

This company is fantastic! I had all my tours scheduled before I left home & 3 days before my cruise was scheduled to start the 1st company canceled leaving for scrambling. I booked a second tour which also canceled, leaving me wounding if this was doomed. Enter Delux Tours which was a referral from an Egyptologist in their employ. They were a life saver for me & came in under budget. Ashraf, my guide on this private guided trip was wonderful, I could not ask for a more fantastic guy. Not just knowledgeable but clearly a man with resources & can solve problems. I’m great-full to them for making this happen on such short notice. I would absolutely recommend this company for anyone booking tours in Egypt. Thank you

Dahabiya Cruise: Slowly Down the Nile

Slow travel is all about taking it easy and by taking a Dahabiya, you can discover Egypt at a gentler, more refined way.

Slow travel is all about taking it easy and by taking a Dahabiya, you can discover Egypt at a gentler, more refined way. You avoid the larger cruise ships, the questionable evening entertainment, and larger docks where you don’t really feel you are having the perfect Egyptian experience. The Dahabiya’s are smaller, so can dock in more remote locations.  A Dahabiya Cruise could well be what you are looking for when considering a holiday to Egypt.

This itinerary sails from Luxor to Aswan on a seven-night cruise, but you can sail from Aswan to Luxor, should you so wish. You begin in Cairo , staying for three nights staying at the Belle Epoque . You can opt for any hotel in Cairo, depending on the type of hotel you like. Spend the second day with your private guide exploring the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum . The second day in Cairo takes you to set out on a walking tour of Islamic Cairo , the souqs and Coptic Cairo . We can tailor your experience in the city, depending on your interests.

Fly to Luxor, and board the Sonesta Amirat . You have seven nights, so you have lots of time to sit and relax, reading a book or sipping a drink as you enjoy the views of the Nile.

You can opt to continue your journey in Egypt after you disembark, maybe with a night back in Cairo or another few in Aswan or on the beach on the Red Sea.

Planning Your Perfect Dahabiya Nile Cruise: Tips and Advice for First-Time Cruisers

Introduction: Embarking on your first Dahabiya Nile cruise ? Get ready for an unforgettable adventure! In this comprehensive guide, we’ll share essential tips and advice to help first-time cruisers plan the perfect journey, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience from start to finish.

Content Highlights:

1. Research Cruise Operators: Before booking your Dahabiya Nile cruise, take the time to research different cruise operators. Look for companies with a proven track record of safety, reliability, and exceptional service. Reading reviews and testimonials from past passengers can provide valuable insights into the quality of the cruise experience offered by each operator. Consider factors such as the variety of itineraries available, the quality of onboard amenities, and the professionalism of the crew.

2. Choose the Right Itinerary: Selecting the right itinerary is key to ensuring an enriching and fulfilling cruise experience. Consider your interests and preferences when choosing a route, and opt for itineraries that include must-see attractions and activities that align with your interests. Whether you’re interested in ancient history, cultural immersion, or natural beauty, there’s a Dahabiya cruise itinerary to suit every taste. Don’t forget to consider the duration of the cruise as well, as some itineraries may be longer or shorter than others.

3. Pack Wisely: Packing wisely is essential for a comfortable and enjoyable cruise experience. Be sure to pack lightweight, breathable clothing suitable for the warm climate of Egypt, as well as comfortable walking shoes for onshore excursions. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself from the sun’s rays during outdoor activities. Additionally, it’s a good idea to pack a small day bag for carrying essentials such as water bottles, cameras, and sunscreen during excursions.

4. Be Prepared for Cultural Differences: Traveling to a foreign country like Egypt means encountering different cultural norms and customs. Take the time to familiarize yourself with Egyptian etiquette and traditions before embarking on your cruise. For example, it’s customary to greet people with a friendly “Salaam alaikum” (peace be upon you) and to remove your shoes before entering someone’s home or a place of worship. Showing respect for local customs and traditions will enhance your cultural immersion and enrich your overall cruise experience.

5. Stay Hydrated and Sun Safe: The Egyptian sun can be intense, especially during the peak summer months. It’s essential to stay hydrated and sun safe during your Dahabiya cruise to avoid heat-related illnesses such as dehydration and sunburn. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially during outdoor excursions, and reapply sunscreen regularly to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Consider wearing lightweight, long-sleeved clothing and a wide-brimmed hat for additional sun protection, particularly during the hottest part of the day.

6. Embrace the Experience: Above all, remember to embrace the experience and enjoy every moment of your Dahabiya Nile cruise. Take the time to savor the stunning scenery, immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of Egypt, and forge unforgettable memories with your fellow passengers. Whether you’re exploring ancient temples, cruising along the tranquil waters of the Nile, or simply relaxing on deck with a good book, a Dahabiya cruise offers an unparalleled opportunity for relaxation, adventure, and discovery.

Conclusion: Planning your first Dahabiya Nile cruise is an exciting and rewarding experience that promises memories to last a lifetime. By following these essential tips and advice, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey from start to finish, allowing you to focus on soaking up the beauty and wonder of Egypt’s iconic river.
