Each of these trips has always offered me more than just the end destination and that honestly, are some of the most enriching and memorable journeys. However, it isn’t just the common joy of road trips that makes me recommend a journey from Delhi to Jaipur by car. Here are some specific reasons –

• Stop at the numerous attractions en route – You can get the most out of your cultural and heritage experience by stopping at the various interesting destinations that fall on any of the routes that you take for the Delhi to Jaipur road trip. Interestingly, depending on the route you pick, you will be able to experience a diverse set of attractions – from wildlife to heritage.
• A better local connection – Whether it is a food stop or a cultural attraction, you will have a better local interaction. I have found that this tremendously enhances your understanding of a place. Once you exceed that distance, you will be charged per kilometer as per the initial quote. In addition to that, you have to add a daily allowance (Driver Bata/ Batta) for your driver. Possible routes to travel from Delhi to Jaipur by road

The average distance between Delhi and Jaipur is 280 km and the time taken without any stops is around 6 hours. However, this might vary based on your chosen Delhi to Jaipur route and whether you wish to halt at any of the locations.

Delhi to Jaipur by road route via Bhiwadi & Neemrana on NH 48

• Total distance – 280 km
• Travel time – 5.5 – 6 hours
• Route followed – Delhi – Gurgaon – Bhiwadi – Neemrana – Jaipur

This is the shortest route between Delhi and Jaipur and can be done without any night halts. It involves tolled highways that are very well maintained. Neemrana is the major halt that you can make on your way to Jaipur from Delhi

Neemrana sightseeing places

122 km from Delhi and 150 km from Jaipur, is the historic town of Neemrana. The town is known for one of the epic rulers of Rajasthan – Prithviraj Chauhan . Here is a quick list of places that you can visit in Neemrana

• Neemrana fort – A 15th-century fort that has now been converted into a luxury heritage hotel. You can visit the Neemrana fort and have a meal or two while exploring it. For adventure enthusiasts, there is a lovely zipline course that takes you over the ancient walls and allows you to get a good glimpse of the place.
• Neemrana Baoli – A heritage stepwell that is close to the fort. Though abandoned, it will impress you with its architecture.
• Ancient Vrindavan Palace – A little offbeat and not many drivers might know it. It is an old haveli that is now in crumbles but well worth a quick stop.

You can plan your stop at Neemrana on the Jaipur-Delhi highway such that you reach around 10 am and can spend at least 2 hours here. If you do not want to grab lunch at the Neemrana fort, Hotel Highway King is a good option on the highway.

Delhi to Jaipur by car via Alwar on NH 48 & NH 248A

• Total distance – 325 km
• Travel time – 7 hours
• Route followed – Delhi – Gurgaon – Alwar – Jaipur

This is also a good route to get to Jaipur from Delhi and involves toll roads. While the distance can be covered in 7 hours, I think it might be a wise decision to plan a night’s halt at Alwar – for the sheer number of things to see in this town. From forts to wildlife reserves, Alwar definitely make a great addition to your Jaipur trip. Check it out.

Alwar attractions

Alwar is around 100 km from Delhi and 150 km from Jaipur. If you leave at 6 am from Delhi, you will be in Alwar by around 10 am. You can plan to add a few of these Alwar attractions to your itinerary and leave by 4 pm to reach Jaipur by 7 pm – before it gets too dark. However, if you want to do it all, then you can pick one of the many Alwar hotels and stay the night. That way you can comfortably explore the town.

• Alwar City Palace – Also called Vinay Vilas Palace, this opulent structure was built in the 18th century. An amalgamation of Mughal and Rajputana architecture, this has now been converted to a museum and is home to rare manuscripts. You can also, see the old arms and furniture when you visit here.
• Alwar Fort or Bala Qila – This fort can be seen from the city palace. It is known for its stunning view of Alwar town. It was built in the 15th century and includes over 50 towers, a temple and a few historic buildings.
• Siliserh lake – Around 12 km away from the town is an artificial lake made by Maharaja Vinay Khan. You can visit the old hunting lodge used by the Maharaja, now a heritage hotel and do some boating in the lake.
• Sariska Tiger Reserve – Located very close to Alwar, you can opt for a jeep safari and catch sight of the striped beasts. If lucky, you will also, be able to spot leopards, sambals and wild boars. While there, don’t miss the gorgeous 6th-century Neelkanth temple with its carvings and the Pandupol Hanuman temple set near a waterfall.
• Vijay Mandir Palace – 14 km from Alwar is yet another lovely palace with 105 rooms. The palace is located along a lake and has a huge lawn. The Sita Ram temple here is definitely a stop you need to make.
• Jaisamand Lake – This can be clubbed with a visit to the Vijay Mandir Palace. Jaisamand lake is the 2nd largest artificial lake in Asia. What makes it special is the presence of 6 lovely cenotaphs and a summer palace by its bank. You can also, try some boating and water sports here.

Offbeat road trip from Delhi to Jaipur via Mandawa on NH9 & NH 709

• Total distance – 425 km
• Travel time – 8.5 hours
• Route followed – Delhi – Mandawa – Nawalgarh – Jaipur

Yes, this is a longer route and which is why a lot of people don’t even think of it. In fact, you will find a lot of car rental companies discouraging you owing to the distance and time. That said, there is nothing wrong with the route that is on a toll road and is quite comfortable. On this particular road trip option, if you do not want to stay overnight, then you can either visit Mandawa or Nawalgarh. Either place will require around 3 – 4 hours.

If you wish to do both places, I highly recommend one overnight at Mandawa or Nawalgarh . There are some lovely Havelis turned into hotels and these are available at a very reasonable cost. You can see them through the given links.

Mandawa tourist places

Shekhawati region of Rajasthan is also, known for its painted Havelis that are spread across various towns and villages. The Shekhawati fresco art covers these mansions from top to bottom. In addition to that, you will find small forts, gorgeous cenotaphs and interesting wells (Baori) in these towns. You can get a feel of these by exploring this small village called Mandawa. Mandawa is around 5.5 hours from Delhi and you can plan to reach here by lunch.

• Jhunjhunwala’s golden Haveli – this has a room filled with frescoes of pure gold leaf.
• Murmuria haveli – for its unique frescoes of freedom fighters
• Goenka double haveli – 2 havelis, one campus and perfect symmetry. One of them in fact, looks like a ghost mansion
• Paardarshi Shivling Mandir – known for its 250 year old spatik (crystal) Shiv linga
• Harlakha well – with its huge pillars and pulley system that was operated using camels.

Nawalgarh & its attractions

Nawalgarh is a slightly bigger town in Shekhawati region. It is just 30 km from Mandawa. If you choose to skip Mandawa, you can get to Nawalgarh from Delhi in 5.5 hours, using the same highway options. The place is just 2.5 hours from Jaipur at 150 km. Here too, you will find comfortable stays but the options are comparatively lesser than those in Mandawa. As for the attractions – check them out

• Poddar Haveli and Museum – This is one of the best havelis in Shekhawati. Well preserved and stunning. It is now a museum that showcases the Rajasthani culture and gives you a good undertanding of the Haveli layouts.
• Moraka Haveli – Another fresco-covered mansion – this time with a picture of Jesus Christ in it.

Nawalgarh has many more havelis that you can see from outside . These are mostly scattered around the Poddar museum and you can just walk around to see it. There are a few temples and cenotaphs too, that you will spot along this path.

This offbeat and unusual route from Delhi to Jaipur will definitely appeal to architecture lovers, heritage buffs and immersive travelers. While the distance is more, you are getting to see something very different too.

Common FAQs for a road trip between Delhi and Jaipur

Which is the best time to do a road trip from delhi to jaipur.

I would recommend this road trip any time between October to February. The weather conditions are pretty decent during these months. Avoid summers as the temperatures can soar upto 50 degrees.

Can I drive from Delhi to Jaipur at night?

Night driving is avoidable as there is a lot of heavy vehicle traffic on the highways between these two places. The region does not have a great lighting either which makes visibility an issue.

I do love the freedom of the road and a road trip is the perfect way to have autonomy over where to stop off to see interesting sights. I haven’t used a driver before but I guess it is a good way to take the pressure off driving unfamiliar routes. The buildings look beautiful and like you I would opt for the off road route number 3.

Indeed Route 3 is my recommendation too. Though longer but it is so worth it.

I have travelled from Delhi to Jaipur before, but by train. It’s great that you have explained what hiring a car in India involves. It’s a bit different than in Europe, where usually you don’t have any kilometer limits and you don’t have to pay extra for a daily allowance – that is new to me. Personally I do not like driving – and India is not a place I thought a road trip might be fun. But reading your post made me think about it again. Obviously there are great places you could explore more leisurly with your own car. I am actually thinking about a trip to northern India – I will keep in mind that renting a car between Delhi and Jaipur might be a good option too.

1. Amer Palace

Jaipur is located around 11 km away from Amber, which is called Amer. Before the Kachwahas of Amber moved their capital to the plains, to what is now Jaipur, the area was now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace is a stunning fusion of Hindu and Mughal design, set among rocky hills. The palace, which was erected as a strong, secure shelter against approaching foes, was started by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and finished by Mirja Raja Jai Singh. 

2. City Palace

The City Palace Complex, which is tucked away inside the walled city, was designed and constructed by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who founded Jaipur. The last ruling royal family still resides at the palace, which is a stunning blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture, in a secluded area. The majority of the constructions are ascribed to Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, although other kings also added to them. The Mubarak Mahal and the Maharani’s Palace are both parts of the City Palace Complex.

3. Jantar Mantar

The Jantar Mantar in Jaipur, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is said to be the biggest of the five astrological observatories constructed by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. It has sixteen geometrical instruments that can monitor celestial bodies, measure time, and watch the planets’ motions around the sun. It also contains the Interpretation Centre, which aids visitors in comprehending the observatory’s operational principles and historical timeline.

4. Hawa Mahal

The poet King Sawai Pratap Singh constructed the Hawa Mahal, also known as the Palace of Winds, in 1799 as a summer resort for himself and his family. The women of the royal household may witness daily life there without being seen themselves. The outside of this unusual five-story building, which combines elements of Hindu and Islamic architecture and contains small latticed windows known as jharokhas, is meant to evoke the crown of Lord Krishna. The palace’s windows act as a type of air conditioner, circulating cold air throughout the building and making it the ideal getaway during the heat.

5. Albert Hall Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, which served as the basis for the structure’s design, gives the structure its name. The core of Ram Niwas Garden is home to the magnificently constructed Albert Hall. The Prince of Wales set the building’s cornerstone in 1876 after Sir Swinton Jacob, the brains behind many other palaces in Rajasthan, conceptualised and constructed it utilising elements of Indo-Sarcenic architecture. A large variety of metal items, wood crafts, carpets, stone and metal sculptures, weaponry and weapons, natural stones, and ivory items are on show at the museum. It also has a sizable collection of miniatures from the art schools at Bundi, Kota, Kishangarh, Udaipur, and Jaipur.

Jaipur, also known as the Pink City, is a popular tourist destination in Rajasthan, India. If you are looking for a weekend getaway from Delhi, a road trip to Jaipur is a great option. The city is located around 270 kilometers from Delhi, making it a great road trip destination.

A road trip from Delhi to Jaipur is a perfect way to explore the rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture of Jaipur, Rajasthan. In this article, I will tell you about my trip experience to Jaipur from New Delhi by car .

A Road Trip From New Delhi to Jaipur by Car – All You Need to Know

Our road trip from Delhi to Jaipur was an unforgettable experience that we will cherish for a long time. The journey was smooth, and the views were breathtaking. We started our journey early in the morning from New Delhi. The scenery was beautiful, and the fresh air was a welcome break from the pollution of Delhi.

There are two main routes to reach Jaipur from Delhi. One is the NH48, which is the most popular route, and the other is the NH21. The NH48 route is around 270 kilometers and takes around 4 to 5 hours to reach Jaipur, while the NH21 route is around 320 kilometers and takes around 6 to 7 hours.

We took the NH48 route, which is a toll road. We paid the toll fee, and the journey was hassle-free. This route is popular among both locals and tourists alike and for a good reason. The route is well-maintained and passes through the beautiful Aravalli hills.

We made a stop at the famous Murthal dhabas, which are famous for their paranthas. We had a delicious breakfast and continued our journey towards Jaipur. On the way, we saw vast open fields, small villages, rugged mountains, and many roadside vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables.

Jaipur is a city that is rich in history, culture, and architecture, and there’s so much to see and do. We passed through several small towns and villages, which gave us a glimpse into the rural life of Rajasthan. We also saw vast fields of mustard and wheat, which are the primary crops grown in the region.

When we reached Jaipur, the first thing we noticed is the beautiful pink buildings. The city will leave you mesmerized with its stunning architecture, beautiful markets, and warm hospitality. We could see the city’s iconic forts and palaces in the distance.

We started our sightseeing tour in Jaipur with the Hawa Mahal . It is an iconic structure, also known as the Palace of Winds. It is a beautiful palace with intricate designs and hundreds of windows. It was fascinating to see how the Hawa Mahal was designed for the royal women to observe the street festivals without being seen.

After that, we headed to the Amer Fort , which is located around 9 kilometers from the Hawa Mahal. The fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Jaipur. We opted for the elephant ride, which was a unique experience in itself.

Then we went to the Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur. It is a magnificent fort located on a hill. We took a guided tour of the fort, which helped us understand the fort’s history and significance. The view of the Jaipur city from the Nahargarh Fort was breathtaking.

Our final stop was the Jal Mahal . It is a beautiful palace located in the middle of a lake. We took a boat ride to the palace and enjoyed the stunning views of the palace and the lake.

In the evening, we visited the local markets to shop for some souvenirs. Jaipur is known for its textiles, jewelry, and handicrafts, and we found some beautiful pieces to take back home.

Overall, our trip to Jaipur from Delhi by car was a memorable experience. We enjoyed the scenic drive, explored the city’s rich heritage, and indulged in some local shopping. I highly recommend a road trip to Jaipur from New Delhi by car to anyone who wants to experience the beauty of Rajasthan.

• The strip from Delhi to Gurgaon is pretty congested, even if you start early in the morning.
• From Neemrana to Shahpura, you will find occasional traffic jams, but it is manageable.
• You can reach Jaipur in an hour from Shahpura as the roads on this route are in good condition.
• On the Alwar route, you do not have to worry about the traffic or the roads and drive without any interruptions.
• Once you have passed Alwar, you have to beware of the diversions with poorly maintained stretches awaiting you.
• The Neemrana route is good for reaching Jaipur fast, but you should control your speed, as the highway is packed with heavy vehicles and is prone to accidents.
• To avoid confusion at intersections, bypasses or diversions on your road trip, use GPS to get through.

Popular Attractions In Jaipur

Jaipur embodies a fine blend of history and heritage in it that will attract artists and literary minds equally. Where there are a plethora of tourist spots, the following places one must visit for a wholesome Jaipur trip itinerary.

Cushioned on the top of the Aravali Hill 11 kilometres away from Jaipur, Amber Fort is an architectural masterpiece and one of the most magnificent forts in India. The fort is significant to Indian history; it was built by close generals of Akbar and used by several Rajput rulers as their residence. The fascinating building has maze-like passages, serpentine staircases, and several gateways overlooking Maotha Lake. It will take at least 3 hours to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The elephant ride is the most popular tourist activity at the fort. But the plight of the animals is condemnable and I personally would not recommend it. Otherwise, Amber Fort is everything you’ve been told about and is a must-see place in Jaipur.

Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is a site for medieval astronomy built in the 18th century by a Rajput king. It features the world’s largest stone sundial that helps interpret the position of celestial bodies and calculate time. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jantar Mantar attracts tourists, architects, mathematicians, photographers, geographers, artists, poets and historians alike.

Best Time To Visit: Noon, when the sun is above, making it easier to interpret the readings on each instrument.

Time Required: 30-45 minutes

Timings: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm

Hawa Mahal, which translates to ‘Palace of Winds,’ is one of the popular tourist hotspots in the Pink City. The palace is a built-in embodiment of Rajput architecture; red and pink sandstone carved in a pyramid shape, 953 windows or ‘Jharokhas’ decorated with intricate designs from where the royal women used to get a peek into the everyday lives of the common folk. The mahal is believed to have been constructed in the form of the crown of Krishna (a Hindu deity).

Albert Hall Museum

The Albert Hall Museum in Jaipur resembles the architecture of the Victoria and Albert Hall Museum in London and is the oldest museum in Rajasthan. You can lay down in the garden and soak in the beauty of the palace, as the museum is flanked with lush gardens.

Timings: 9:00 am- 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

A Road Trip From Delhi To Jaipur – Memorable!

A Road Trip From Delhi To Jaipur

Hi Friends,

A road trip from Delhi to Jaipur- sounds exciting? Yes, it was definitely one of the best road trips. We spent 2 nights and 2 days in the beautiful pink city. Unlike Delhi, Jaipur sleeps at 10:00 pm. Most of the sightseeing places get closed at 5:00 pm so that you can spend the rest of the time roaming around local markets and admiring this scenic beauty.

Jaipur is around 266 km from Delhi. The Delhi –Jaipur highway is not well maintained, the roads are either under construction or puddled. During the entire journey the roads were constantly occupied by transport trucks. Unlike Delhi, Rajasthan does not have specific truck timings. Due to these speed jammers it took us additional 1.5 hours to reach Jaipur city, a total of 6.5 hours. After reaching Jaipur, we booked a hotel on the Delhi bypass road . Fortunately, that was the best hotel location as all the sightseeing places were equally approachable. City palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, Albert hall museum are located nearby inside the city and amber fort, jai ghar fort, naarghar fort and Jal mahal are inline at the outskirts of the city.

Most of these places have ticket windows that cost between INR 25 to INR 100 per person. I would suggest you to go for a composite ticket that will cost around INR 75 per person and is valid to cover 5-6 places in 2-3 days. We got to know about composite ticket on our last day – when we had already spent INR 200 per person on individual tickets :scratch: .

Here is a quick brief on the sights!

Must visit places:

1) City Palace – Timings 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. From ages this palace is the seat of the Maharajas’ of Jaipur. A part of the palace is also the private residence of current Maharaja of Jaipur, who is just 15 years old. You need around 1.5-2 hours to visit this palace.

2) Albert Hall Museum – Timings 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (Closed on last Tuesday of month). This is one of the oldest museums of the state. It has a rich collection of royal paintings, costumes, carpets, metal sculptures, etc.

3) Hawa Mahal – Timings 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Hawa Mahal is also called the palace of winds. It is a 5-storey building built in the form of a crown.

4) Amber (Amer) Fort – Timings 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is situated at the outskirts of Jaipur– about 10-11 km from main city. Built by Maharaja Man Singh, Amber fort is the main tourist attraction. The architecture and years- old technology used to build this fort is unbelievable. If you really like to know the high-end technologies of that era then I would suggest hiring a guide. Guides have in-depth awareness so they can make your visit more fruitful.

5) Amber Fort Sound and light show – :good: :good: :good: This show was best part of my Jaipur trip. Had I not gone to this show the trip would have been incomplete. The shows are run in the evening- Timings 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm (English show), 8:00 – 9:00 pm (Hindi show). The open air ambience, flawless programming and the script of this show make you feel as if you are re-living the history. The ticket charges are INR 100 per person for Hindi show and INR 200 per person for English show.

6) Jai Ghar Fort – Timings 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Amber fort, Jai Ghar fort and Naarghar fort are located in line at the outskirts of the city. You can cover these forts in 4-5 hours. Jai Ghar fort has the world’s largest cannon on wheels.

If you are short of time then you can skip the following places. Otherwise, go and enjoy these sights.

1) Jantar Mantar – Its timings are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This is one of the 5 astronomical observatories constructed by Sawai Jai Singh. The other observatories are at different locations in India, including Delhi and Jaipur. Amongst the 5 observatories, Jaipur one is the largest one. If you have interest in astrophysics and mathematics then you must visit this place.

2) Birla Mandir- Timings 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We could not get much time to visit Birla Mandir but it comes under main Jaipur attractions.

3) Jal Mahal- Situated in the midst of Man Sagar Lake, Jal Mahal is not open for tourists. However, you can enjoy the scenic beauty from outside in broad day light. The palace looks more beautiful in moonlight.

Places worth skipping

Choki Dhani- :negative: :negative: :negative: Choki Dhani is located in a very congested area at the outskirts of Jaipur city. It is allegedly said to be built 15 -16 years ago. Two types of entry tickets are available –INR 500 & INR 700. The only difference in ticket categories is the type of Rajasthani food. INR 500 ticket covers regular Rajasthani food and INR 700 ticket covers royal Rajasthani food.

This place was supposed to depict Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage but these days it’s busy in making money. Irrespective of the ticket type, the quality of Rajasthani food served at choki dhani is below average; no system is being followed to maintain the dining area. People literally push each other to get inside the dining hall. I have heard a lot about this place but I was highly disappointed after visiting it, would never ever visit this place again.

Well, I have had a lot of good memories from this trip. Before visiting Jaipur I was little sceptical as I did not have any interest in forts and museums. But after visiting these places I fell in love with them. These forts are not just forts made up of stones, infact they depict the whole royal dynasties. I find this city worth visiting.

3. Mannat Dhaba

Whether you crave some scrumptious food or hot and cold beverages, just drop by Mannat Dhaba and try whatever you like. You can enjoy a wide variety of dishes at affordable prices. A quick visit to the Dhaba can, in fact, be the cherry on the topping for your trip.

4. Hotel Highway Prince

You can see the hoarding of Highway Prince from a distance. This is one of the best eateries on the NH 48 highway. The area is divided into AC and non-AC zones. You can enjoy some quick bites or dig into tawa roti, makkhan parantha, chole bhature, matka kulfi and masala dosa for a relaxed road ahead.

(B) Day:-3 Jodhpur (350 kms | 8 hrs) After Breakfast proceed to Jodhpur. Check in to the hotel. Evening free for shopping Overnight stay at the hotel. (B) Day:-4 Jodhpur Take a full day sightseeing tour and visit:  Ummaid Bhawan Palace, Meharangarh Fort, Mandor Garden and Jaswant Thada. Overnight stay at the hotel.
