Dynamic stability control.

The Dynamic Stability Control system uses sensors to measure the steering angle, yaw and lateral acceleration to determine the direction you want to go. 2023 MINI LINEUP PRICING AND EQUIPMENT UPDATES

• Originally launched on the updated 2022 MINI Convertibles, Zesty Yellow is now coming to the MINI Cooper S and JCW Hardtop 2-Door and the Cooper S Hardtop 4 Door in the Signature and Iconic trims.
• Zesty Yellow is still available for Cooper, Cooper S and JCW Convertibles in the Signature and Iconic trims.
• An industry-first paint application that was introduced on the 2022 MINI Hardtops, two additional multi-tone roofs are now available for all Hardtops in the Signature and Iconic trims. Joining the Multi-tone Blue roof is the Multi-tone White and Multi-tone Red roof options.

• Island Blue is now offered with Signature Plus and Iconic trims on the MINI Cooper SE. Rooftop Gray no longer available for the 2023 MINI Cooper SE.
• Iconic trim now expands its upholstery selections, adding Cloth Leatherette Back Pearl and Cloth Leatherette Black Pearl Light Checkered also available in the Signature Plus trim and adding Chesterfield Leather Malt Brown previously not available on the MINI Cooper SE as choices. Cloth and leatherette seats will be added to the Iconic trim on MINI Cooper SE.
• The newly announced MINI Resolute Edition will come in the MINI Hardtop 2 Door (including the MINI Cooper SE electric vehicle), the MINI Hardtop 4 Door, and the MINI Convertible. 
• The MINI Sidewalk Edition Convertible will continue for MY 2023 in Rooftop Grey metallic, Zesty Yellow and Deep Laguna metallic.
• On the MINI hardtops and Convertibles, the Driver Assistance package has been modified to include Park Assist and Head-Up Display.
• Active Cruise Control has been separated from the Driver Assistance Package and made a standalone option allowing the Driver Assistance package to be ordered regardless of type of transmission.
• Active Cruise Control is available exclusively for the Cooper S, Cooper SE with Signature Plus and JCW Hardtops and Convertibles with automatic transmissions.
• The Cooper SE Iconic trim continues to offer the Driver Assistance package with Park Assist, Head-Up Display and Active Cruise Control.
• The Spacesaver Spare Tire is now only available as a standalone option. 
• The MINI Untold Edition will be available on the MINI Clubman, including the 301hp high-performance John Cooper Works model.
• The MINI Untamed Edition will be available on the MINI Countryman including the MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 plug-in hybrid model.

What's New for 2023?

A new Resolute Edition of the Mini Cooper will be available for the 2023 model year. It wears Rebel Green paint, frosted bronze exterior trim, yellow-and-cream tweed seat covers, and special Resolute Edition door sill protectors. The package is also available on the convertible model but swaps the Hardtop's white roof and mirror caps for a black soft top and black mirror caps.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2023 Mini Cooper Hardtop / Convertible starts at $24,395 and goes up to $32,895 depending on the trim and options.

We'd choose to go with the manual transmission and put it in the more powerful 189-hp Cooper S Hardtop to maximize the fun-to-drive factor. The five-door Hardtop costs a bit extra, but we'd stick with the three-door since neither Mini is all that spacious. Beyond that, the personal-customization options are numerous and desirable, and we'll leave them up to you.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The standard engine is a 134-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder, which provides adequate pep in this small, lightweight, front-drive vehicle. We prefer the S models, which come with a 189-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. With the larger engine, the S proved to be a little more than a second faster to 60 mph than with the base 1.5-liter engine , clocking in at 6.2 seconds . We found the automatic transmission shifts well, but the manual transmission is still our favorite as it provides the most driver engagement. The firm suspension lends itself to enthusiast-oriented driving, which can make the Mini Cooper exciting, but the ride can be unforgiving on rough roads.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Hardtop and convertible models with the base three-cylinder engine are rated for 29 mpg city and 38 mpg highway with the automatic transmission and 27 mpg city and 37 mpg highway with the manual. With the three-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual, we managed 38 mpg during our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route. The more powerful 2.0-liter engine in the Cooper S is rated slightly lower by the EPA, with automatic models earning ratings as high as 28 mpg city and 38 mpg highway and manual models earning ratings of 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Mini's interior is charmingly quirky but at the cost of user-friendliness. Rear-seat passenger space is tight, but front-seat occupants will find little reason to complain. The Convertible model's power top will fold in 18 seconds to unlock the joy of unlimited headroom. Too bad its trunk is tiny. Hardtop models offer more practicality inside their hatchback bodies—but still not a lot given the car's small size. The Hardtop model's trunk is quite small, offering room for just three carry-on suitcases in our testing. But drop the rear seats, and there's room for 12 carry-ons. The five-door Hardtop offers more space for cargo with the rear seats folded, but the Convertible offers less. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated front seats come standard on the Mini Cooper, and a leather interior is optional.

Infotainment and Connectivity

All Mini Cooper models come standard with an 8.8-inch infotainment display and a digital gauge cluster. SiriusXM satellite radio is also standard across the lineup, but buyers seeking Apple CarPlay, in-dash navigation, or wireless phone charging will need to pay extra for those features. Android Auto is not available.

The Mini Cooper comes with standard automated emergency braking and offers adaptive cruise control and park assist as options. Adaptive Cruise Control

Does someone know if it is possible to turn on "normal" cruise control. I love the adaptive cruise, but the distance it keeps is sometimes too much. As in a bit more crowded morning traffic all cars jump in front of me. Then my Mini brakes as it finds the new car in front too close. With normal cruise I can keep driving and let the car in front of me gain distance, while I maintain my speed. Or I press lower cruise speed and have the Mini brake gently on the engine. So is adaptive alway on while on cruise control?  

Can't you shorten the gap?  

Wow, interesting question. How many seconds behind the car in front does it place you?  

Interesting. I would never consider using cruise control in busy traffic. Given that I hardly used it in my last 2 cars (or in the Golf I had) I did not bother getting it this time.

You can change the gap maintained by the adaptive cruise control by tapping the 2 buttons to the right of the buttons to activate and change the speed. I think there's either 4 or 5 different gaps. If you press and hold the same buttons it will disable the active part of the cruise control and a message will appear in the electronic display at the bottom of the speedo confirming this what has happened.  

Has anyone had the problems of the Active Cruise control simply cutting out, and also the problem of cutting off power dramatically slowing the vehicle with no traffic in front (without any apparent reason)?  

There are various things that can confuse the ACC Low sunlight, shines into the windscreen camera and it cannot differentiate objects Rain too heavy, spray from other vehicles or fog, same issue as low sun Bend in the road so car in line with traffic on the other side or parked cars - system can see this as you approaching another vehicle and slams on the brakes. Some shapes of bridge support and other roadside objects, same issue as bend in the road. The system is driven by a camera in the windscreen and a computer running an object recognition program. So anything that can confuse the camera or the software causes a problem. Can be annoying and scary the first time you are on a clear road and the car decides to slam on the brakes or beep at you for no reason, but as long as your hands are on the wheel and feet near the pedals you can override it very quickly. The option to switch to non active cruise (just hold one of the ACC distance buttons) is handy for low sun and heavy rain situations, but i guess having manual control in poor visibility is probably safer anyway.

Cruise Control - Where are the controls?

Great to get such quick replies.... Does that mean that there are in fact no controls on the MFSW for the radio..only the cruise control and horn?

My MINI me and me said: There are six buttons. The two outer buttons on the RHS change volume level the central one changes mode CD/MD radio and goes through then any discs you have in any autochanger. The two outer buttons on the LHS change track/radio preset if you hold them they will also FF or REW the current track, the central one has no function. Click to expand...

Colored Rim on Steering Wheel I like the way the colored rim on the steering wheel looks. It makes up for the otherwise lack luster style of the plain leather one. So now I have to ask, where do you get such a rim, or is this a DIY project DeniseK

Audio Controls From the picture posted, it looks like you have to have incredibly long fingures to operate the audio controls on the back of the MFSW? Will I need finger extensions? Cooper due to be delivered within a week!!!  

Having not seen a MINI in person yet, can you tell me if cruise control is standard on the Cooper S? I see an option which I ordered as a multipurpose steering wheel and throught it was the only way to get cruise.  

As far as I am aware, (could be different in the US) you need to order the MFSW to get cruise. You also get the stereo controls on the wheel too!

Cruise in the US is almost mandatory for long drives on the interstate highway systems. Nice to have on a long trip. Short trips not so nice.  

Sod the cruise, the MFSW is worth it for the remote radio and CD controls alone. Tried cruise on the way back from the Peak run. Works well but not my cup of tea really! What a Peak run!!!!!!
