Glass-Bottom Boats

Exploring Spring Lake (the headwaters of the San Marcos River) via a glass-bottom boat is a classic SMTXperience. The boats have shown visitors the view from above since the early 1950s when the site was Aquarena Springs, a popular amusement park. Spring Lake is considered one of the longest continuously inhabited sites in North America with artifacts having been discovered from every era of human inhabitation for the past 12,000 years. You'll learn all about the history of Spring Lake and the flora and fauna that calls the crystal-clear water home.

Fish, turtles, prawns, and species that can be found only in Spring Lake or the San Marcos River, like the endangered Texas Blind Salamander, can be viewed up-close in Discovery Hall. Discovery Hall also houses some of the historical artifacts discovered in the lake and interactive exhibits about the Edwards Aquifer and the Water Systems of Texas.

The Wetlands Boardwalk is a self-guided trail that winds over the shallows and shows off the abundant plant and animal life that thrive there.

Ticket Prices 30-minute Glass Bottom Boat Tour:  Adults: $12 Seniors(65+): $10 Children 3-12: $8 2 and Under: Free Annual Passes are available for $26.95  The annual pass covers 12 months of unlimited access to the standard 25-minute glass-bottom boat tour, 15 percent off gift shop purchases as well as 15 percent off extended, wetlands and specialty tours for up to six people. Guests of Annual Pass cardholders will also receive $2 off their boat ticket, for up to six people. Other Meadows Center Adventures Did you know you can explore Spring Lake via kayak, snorkel, or SUP? About Reef, Wildlife & Weather

We are very lucky that so many days here in Key West look exactly like the beautiful photos and video you see on our website & other marketing materials. However, you should be aware that all of our water adventures are outdoors and influenced by Mother Nature. Many days underwater visibility is 80+ feet and teeming with sea life; others are not. Though we hope that every day is perfect, we are not in control of the wind, waves, clouds, rain or underwater sea life. If we are aware of any concerning factors regarding conditions, we will make an announcement before your trip departs. At that time, you may elect to take the tour, reschedule or receive a refund.

Explore the reef in comfort

Key West’s only window to the sea! Explore dramatic underwater vistas generally reserved for scuba divers from our glass bottom boat. A wide variety of fish and other sea creatures await you as you gaze into the underwater world of Key West. In addition, you will have the opportunity to see North America’s only living coral reef , one of the most biologically diverse marine eco-systems in the world. Majestic elkhorn and impressive brain coral, sturdy in appearance yet fragile and vulnerable, stand sentry for the more than 300 species of fish that complete the colorful and intriguing seascape. Along the trip, our experienced captain and crew will provide a unique and informative eco-tour and point out some of the most interesting marine life that inhabit the waters of this incredible island. Special glass “windows to the reef” provide continuous viewing for all passengers.

FUN EVENING ON THE WATER!

This was so much fun! They provide everything you need to have a great time. I went solo and have kayaked many times before. The catfish you feed are everywhere and there is a ton of other wildlife to enjoy along the way to the bridge. There is a phone number you call in to, to be able to hear the guide talk the entire time. I brought my headphones to listen. Its kayaking and you will get wet.

The experience was great! Absolutely 10/10. The guides were fun and had some great commentary and knowledge on the area and sea life. The water was calm and not being in the sun was a big plus for me. Getting to see through the kayak is so fun we got to see so much! If family comes out here again I’d definitely go again! If you’re thinking about booking this let this be the review that tells you DO IT! You won’t regret it. I made memories I’ll carry forever.

This was the best part of our trip! So much fun! Call ahead for reservations, well in advance. We had 5 nights on our trip and I called as soon as we arrived in St. Pete, and they only had an opening on our last night. I was worried since we had little to none kayak experience, but we did fine. The tour guide was excellent. We mainly saw catfish, but we found a few different types of crabs and the tour guide pulled them out for anyone who wanted to hold. Weather was perfect! We highly recommend. It is a must do!

Fun Date! The weather was perfect. The water was very calm and it was a peaceful evening on the water with no mosquitos either. You go slowly enough that you do not need to be in shape to paddle. The people helping you in the kayak are patient and kind and keep you dry. It was so fun to feed the fish and actually touch them when they came to the surface. The bottoms of the boat are not glass, but plastic. You mostly see the fish beside your boat, not underneath, but it was a worthwhile, laid back tour all ages would enjoy!
