A low-cost carrier with 75% to 80% load factor had a 45% improvement in their forecasting accuracy, using BCG’s state-of-the-art Machine Learning demand forecasting approach.
While working with BCG to identify and eliminate hidden costs, a US airline reduced expenses by $750 million , with no layoffs or involuntary moves.
A multibillion-dollar global hotel chain needed to enhance its loyalty program. After working with BCG to redesign the loyalty program and build up marketing capabilities, the organization achieved a 20 to 25 times return on investment over five years.
Our travel and tourism consulting team worked with an underperforming online travel agency to define a profitable growth strategy focused on specific consumer segments, creating a plan to improve profits by 20% to 25% .

In 2000, during a period of slow growth for airlines, five major US carriers—American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, and United —joined forces to create the travel portal Orbitz. BCG was involved in designing, building, and launching the startup from the beginning. Five managers from BCG oversaw operations, finance, IT, corporate development, and HR, and helped build a company that sold in 2004 for $1.25 billion. More recently, in partnership with Jeff Katz, the founding CEO of Orbitz Worldwide, BCG cofounded Journera , an industry-wide platform that provides secure, real-time data exchange to help companies create more seamless travel journeys. About The Role
The Global Travel Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of travel, sourcing, operations and service delivery for FTI Consulting’s global corporate travel program. This individual will report to the VP of Global Shared Services on a day to day basis. The role of the Global Travel Director is essential to ensure a seamless experience for travelers while adhering to FTI Consulting’s policies.
What You’ll Do
- Responsible for contract/agreement development and negotiations of travel related spend to include, airlines, hotels, car agencies, ground transportation. Responsible for implementing and monitoring compliance with agreed upon contracts.
- Manage global travel management team.
- Monitor travel and expense related policy and recommend strategies to improve policy and compliance.
- Oversight of the corporate travel agency including all operational issues.
- Establish and conduct RFP, RFI processes, supplier evaluations and selection, account management and supplier performance reviews.
- Benchmark, analyze, monitor and report on travel expenditures and provide regular reporting to executives.
- Provide strategic sourcing and payment support for all travel-related initiatives including meetings and events.
- Work with travel managers to:
- Understand and anticipate employee needs and travel preferences.
- Respond quickly and proactively to travel requests.
- Resolve complaints.
- Track location of traveling employees in case of emergency.
- Evaluate company perks and distribute as necessary. (i.e., airline/car status, hotel points, etc.).
- Responsible for all travel related communications to the company.
- Maintain industry certifications by attending annual conventions or local meetings, as necessary.

What You Will Need To Succeed
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant professional experience managing corporate travel programs, negotiating vendor contracts, and/or creating global travel policies
- Ability to align to east coast working hours
- Ability to travel to FTI Office(s) as needed
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; this position does not provide visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience with corporate travel and purchasing card programs
- Proficient in MS Office programs
- Proven effective cross-functional business team experience
- Experience in negotiating travel (air, hotel & car) vendor contracts
- Travel industry certification (GBTA, ACTE, Sabre, etc.)
- Extensive knowledge of corporate business travel practices and marketplace with relevant experience related to identifying, implementing and managing a third party travel administrator(s) in a global environment
- Extensive knowledge of strategic sourcing principles, theories and processes
- Extensive knowledge of conference & event program design, sourcing, and contracting
- Ability to work on a range of business travel problems and provide high quality and/or innovative solutions
- Strong project management, process development and data modeling/analysis skills
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to effect strategic direction
- Experience working with a global team

London has been crowned the capital of global capitals according to a recent ranking of the world's best cities, shining on criteria assessing livability, lovability and prosperity for residents, visitors and investors alike.
London tops the list of Resonance Consultancy's "2024 World’s Best Cities."

Most political commentators and opinion writers predicted a future devoid of momentum and ambition post-Brexit. And yet, London still appears to be the most attractive destination in Europe -- and indeed in the world -- when it comes to livability, lovability and prosperity. These are the main criteria used by the Canadian firm, Resonance Consultancy, which specializes in analyzing development strategies, to draw up its list of "2024 World's Best Cities." This list runs down the places on the planet that manage to satisfy their residents as much as visitors and investors.
Usually, tourism rankings choose to focus on a single consumer category. In the case of this listing, local quality of life is analyzed, along with the prosperity of urban centers. In addition, travelers' opinions of each destination are compiled. Specifically, over 270 cities around the world were analyzed on criteria ranging from transport connectivity to the range of cultural and culinary experiences on offer. The report also analyzes educational attainment and university reputations, as well as labor force participation rates, poverty rates, GDP per capita and the number of start-ups.
"London tops both our overall Livability and Lovability indices, leading all global cities in the Instagram Hashtags, Facebook Check-ins and Tripadvisor Reviews subcategories that in part comprise the latter. Indeed the city is almost back to pre-pandemic capacity, if the Tube is any indication. The London Underground Night Tube reopened more than a year ago, with the city’s other lines mostly up and running as they were before Covid. There are even new metro stops as part of the transformational Elizabeth line buildout, with trains now running directly from Reading and Heathrow to Abbey Wood and from Shenfield to Paddington. The brand-new Bond Street Elizabeth line station, at the heart of London’s West End, also opened late last year," reads the Resonance Consultancy's report.
Paris, due to hold this summer's Olympic Games, takes second place in the ranking. "While the city is future-proofing itself with visionary sustainability and investment attraction [...], it’s battling monumental social and economic challenges, perhaps unlike any other capital city. Paris has been wracked by unemployment and economic calamity since 2020 and ranks #158 in our Poverty Rate subcategory, which tracks residents living under the national poverty line," explains the report, highlighting some of the disadvantages that keep Paris in second place.

Global Applied Projects: An opportunity to grow personally and professionally
This semester, I enrolled in a class focused on developing consulting skills for global companies: Global Applied Projects. In this course, I am a part of a team that works hard to support a global company with a strategic project. And here's the exciting part: it wasn't just virtual meetings and late-night emails! During Spring Break, my entire team got the incredible opportunity to travel to Belgium and work with the company in person.
Let's talk about both the amazing project and the unforgettable Belgian experience!
Consulting with a Global Mindset
Working for a company with teams based overseas was an eye-opening experience. We got a firsthand look at their unique business challenges and cultural considerations. It was truly a collaborative effort, with open communication and a shared goal of achieving success. Being on-site allowed us to have deeper discussions, brainstorm more effectively, and truly understand their company culture.
Beyond the Boardroom: Exploring Belgium
Of course, Belgium offered so much more than just boardrooms! In our free time, we explored the charming city squares of Brussels, wandered the canals of Bruges, and even indulged in some delicious Belgian waffles (which I highly recommend!). Immersing ourselves in the culture definitely fostered a stronger team bond and allowed us to connect with our client on a more personal level.
Lessons Learned and Lasting Impact
This project was more than just a consulting gig – it was a chance to put theory into practice, develop our intercultural communication skills, and gain valuable real-world experience. We learned to adapt our approach, embrace new perspectives, and collaborate effectively in a global setting.
Global Applied Projects is just one of the many classes that make the MBA at Fisher a unique learning experience.
This experience will undoubtedly stay with us as we navigate our future careers.
