Beginning his run at Fremantle’s Metropolis on Wednesday January 4, Scott will then hit up Brisbane and Sydney, before wrapping up at Melbourne’s Forum on Sunday January 8. Find all dates below.

The tour comes in support of the Brooklyn-born rapper’s third studio album, ‘2000’ – a sequel to his 2012 mixtape ‘1999’ – which dropped back in July following a brief delay .

A pre-sale for Frontier Touring members begins at 10am this Wednesday (September 14), while general ticket sales open at 12pm this Friday (September 16). Both can be found here .

Prior to ‘2000’, Scott’s last output came in the form of 2020’s EP ‘The Light Pack’ . In a four-star review, NME ‘s Luke Morgan Britton described a “newfound sense of energy and urgency” being delivered by Scott.

Joey Bada$$ Announces 2023 Australian Tour

He returns to Australia as one of rap music's biggest superstars.

joey badass tour sydney

American rapper, singer and actor Joey Bada$$  has today announced his long awaited Australian tour, performing down under for the first time in over 5 years.

The Brooklyn native will tour his latest critically acclaimed studio album 2000,  across major capital cities for the first time since a pair of sold out shows in Sydney and Melbourne in 2018.

The shows kick off on Australia's West Coast, performing at Metropolis Fremantle on Wednesday 4 January. He’ll then travel east to Brisbane, playing Fortitude Music Hall on Friday 6 January, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Saturday 7 January, and Forum Melbourne on Sunday 8 January.

2000  was the highly anticipated sequel to his breakthrough mixtape 1999  which released 10 years earlier. The title alludes that its only been one long year of growth for Bada$$ between his present commercial success and the time he entered the scene alongside hip hop collective Pro Era.

He released his first official studio album B4.DA.$$  in 2015 before releasing his magnum opus, politically inspired and frustrated record ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$ . Unifying anthems reigned thick of the record, including two hits Devastated  and Temptation  achieving twice Platinum and Gold plaques respectively.

His last tour saw him come to Australia as one of the most exciting names on the Sugar Mountain festival line up, now he returns as one of rap music's biggest superstars.

Joey Bada$$ Announces Australian Tour For January 2023

Joey Bada$$ Announces Australian Tour For January 2023

Chris Singh

As we roll closer to the end of the year, the first few months of 2023 keep coming through with big-ticket Australian tours from some of the world’s most exciting acts. We’ve already got national shows locked in for the likes of Red Hot Chilli Peppers & Post Malone , Elton John , Arctic Monkeys , and Bon Iver , now it seems Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ is adding his name to the fold. The Pro Era rapper, cut from the same cloth as the likes of J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar – who is prepping his own trip down under for the end of this year – will kick off the new year with a Joey Bada$$ Australia tour, spanning four theatre shows across Fremantle, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

His first visit to our sparkling shores in five years, the emcee, known for being one of the most ferocious young emcees to come up in the same era as A$AP Rocky and Danny Brown, will be mostly pushing his third studio album 2000 – released just a few months ago. Although we’re expecting the set list to take a bit of a greatest hits approach, given Joey hasn’t been out for a while, so fans can expect to hear pearlers like ‘No. 99,’ ‘Devastated,’ ‘Christ Conscious,’ and ‘Survival Tactics.’

Released in July, 2000 is the follow-up to Joey’s classic mixtape 1999 which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and has for the past decade been hailed by rap fans as one of the finest examples of a relatively young rapper adding a vital twist to golden-era hip hop without compromising on credibility. The new album, so far well-received by various online reviews, features guest appearances from Westside Gunn, Diddy, Chris Brown, and more.

The Joey Bada$$ Australian tour – backed by Illusive Presents and Frontier Touring – will kick off at Metropolis in Fremantle on Wednesday, January 4th before the emcee heads on over to Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre (which will be the tour’s only ‘All Ages’ show) and Melbourne’s Forum.

Joey Bada$$ Australia Tour 2022

Tickets for the Joey Bada$$ Australia tour go on sale to the general public on Friday, September 16th at 12 PM local time. If you want tickets earlier, hit up the Frontier Members presale which starts on Wednesday, September 14th at 10 AM local time.

Review: Joey Bada$$ came, saw and conquered at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre

  • Enmore Theatre
  • Joey Badass
  • Nyck Caution

At just 22 years of age, Joey Bada$$ is one of the very few emcees of this generation that could easily go toe-to-toe with the legends of yesteryear. If you weren’t convinced with his earlier, rougher material, you were surely a believer by the end of 2017, where Joey’s second studio album All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ was rightfully heralded as one of the year’s finest hip hop releases, praised for not only for its sound, but how clear and distinctive the New York native’s artistic growth was. The sociopolitical thread throughout the project was punctuated by a sharp, expressive and passionate performance on tracks like “Land of the Free” and “Legendary”, and it spoke to a talent that is clearly just getting started.

All that was left was for him to translate the material to a live setting with as much power as on record, and Bada$$ would cement himself as one of the prestige emcees of the new school. Check. Though he may only have two LPs under his belt, his current live show is more than enough evidence for Joey’s unimpeachable skill as an emcee and a performer, elevating him to the upper echelon of hip hop, demanding that he be recognised as such. That’s no hyperbole, as you’d have clearly seen and heard at his recent Sydney performance, taking a sold-out Enmore Theatre and feeding off the crowd’s energy to give us a hip hop show no one in attendance will soon forget.

And as with all good shows, it started with the perfect choice for support; that being fellow Pro Era artist Nyck Caution who is obviously just as adored as Joey judging from the crowd reaction. Nyck felt like the main act, and he damn well could have been with a flawless performance that gave us much energy as it demanded from the fans. Tracks like “Show No Love” and “What’s Understood” were huge showcases for Nyck’s raw and unstoppable lyricism, which reiterated the widely touted status of Pro Era as one of the most essential collectives in hip hop for those who shun the generic autotune excesses of millennial pop-rap for the no-frills traditional combo of dope rhymes over dope beats.

Not having Nyck return during Joey’s set felt like a missed opportunity (perhaps they could have saved “What’s Understood” for then) but there were very few complaints given the expansive, well-rounded set list we were given on the night. Sandwiched between “Rockabye Baby” and a spectacular finale of “Devastated” was a what’s what of Joey’s most quintessential cuts across the young emcee’s still growing career. Tracks like certified head-nodder “Ring the Alarm” and playful “Joey Fuckin’ Bada$$” (a short burst over a skeletal beat and a huge crowd chant of “Joey, Joey, Joey Fuckin’ Badass”) got over just as well as older cuts like the anthemic “No. 99” and “Waves”, all delivered with ease and perfect timing, arranged to lift each track even in the absence of a live band (which would be a great addition for his next tour down under).

Though it’s the more cerebral, political tracks that really zone in on Joey’s talent. Cuts like the soulful and honest “Temptation”, the heartfelt “For My People”, and the critical “Land of the Free” pulsated with just as much sincerity and depth as they do on record, fiery and biting takedowns of societal ills and personal demons that were clear enough to in some way resonate with and inspire the all-ages crowd, even if the majority of them – and I’m making a reasonable assumption here – couldn’t relate in a more direct way to the complex issues Joey was rapping about.

Hollow but energetic tracks like “Front & Centre” and “Pull Up” did feel a bit inconsistent when wedged in the middle of gems like “Amerikkkan Idol” and “Devastated”, but this was a show that was just as much about the “turn up” as it was about highlighting Joey’s exemplary skill, which amidst all the fireworks, pillars of smoke, stars and stripes, came across clearly and confidently as if to maliciously knock some sense into anyone who dare not mention his name with the Kendrick Lamars, J Coles and Big K.R.I.Ts of today.

2000 was released on 22 July (via Columbia Records/Sony Music – here), nearly 10-years to the date after his classic boom-bap mixtape 1999. The album title serves as a reminder for the world that time is a concept and it’s really just been one long year since Joey and his hip hop collective Pro Era exploded onto the scene in 2012. Singles from the record include: ‘Head High’, ‘Where I Belong’, ‘Survivors Guilt’ and ‘Zipcodes’.

Joey Bada$$ released his first studio album B4.DA.$$ in 2015 debuting at #5 on Billboard and topping hip hop charts across America. Two years later he showed his lyrical prowess on his follow up record ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$, translating his world-wearied political observations into unifying anthems. The 2017 record features the twice RIAA Platinum ‘Devastated’ and RIAA Gold ‘Temptation’.

Bada$$ last toured Australia in 2018 as one of the biggest names on the Sugar Mountain Festival lineup, as well as performing four headline shows, which quickly sold out in Sydney and Melbourne.

Critics are praising him as one of the most celebrated rappers of this generation. Don’t miss Joey Bada$$ when he returns to Australia in January 2023.

Frontier Members presale for the new Melbourne show begins Wednesday 19 October (1pm AEDT) before the General Public on sale on Friday 21 October (10am AEDT). Tickets and more information via frontiertouring.com/joeybadass .

The American rapper, singer and actor is touring Australia for the first time in five years

After sell-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne back in 2018, Joey Badass returns next year with his highly anticipated Australian Tour 2023 – and fans of the celebrated rapper can expect one helluva live performance.

The Brooklyn native will kick off his four-show tour in Perth, playing Metropolis Fremantle on January 4. This will be followed by concerts in Brisbane on January 6 and Sydney on January 7, before hitting the Forum in Melbourne on January 8, and Northcote Theatre on January 10.

The set list is guaranteed to be jam-packed with hits from his latest project and third studio album, 2000 – think ‘Zipcodes’, ‘Head High’, ‘Where I Belong’ and ‘Survivors Guilt’. The album is a sequel to his critically acclaimed debut mixtape 1999 (which was released when he was just 17 years of age), and serves as a gateway to the hip-hop beats of the past, while also looking to the future.

The first Melbourne show has sold out, but tickets are on sale from Friday October 21 for the second. For more information head to Frontier Touring .

Joey Bada$$, born Jo Vaughn Virginie Scott on January 20th 1995 is an American hip hop recording artist from New York in America.

Joey's musical career started off like many stars nowadays, on YouTube. He uploaded a video of himself free styling. This subsequently went on to the video being re-posted on to American hip hop site World Star Hip Hop which then led Joey to be noticed in the hip hop world.

From this, Joey went on to become the co-founder of the hip-hop collective Pro Era, with whom he released three mix tapes. Then in 2012 Joey released his debut solo mix tape, named, "1999". The release was highly successful and following this, a video for one of the songs on the mix tape, "Waves" was released in June that year. Impressively, the mixtape immediately increased the New York born's popularity in the underground hip hop scene and led him to embark on his own tour.

Additionally, Joey went on to release a track with hip hop artist Ab-Soul titled "Enter the Void" along with "Waves". These songs were his first official releases to retail.

In 2013 Joey later appeared alongside his Pro Era crew in the opening act on highly regarded legends, Wiz Khalifa and ASAP Rocky's 2013 summer "Under The Influence Tour."

Live reviews

Joey Bada$$ is leading a movement that comes with a certain aesthetic and has garnered a strong following within a matter of two years. His shows, before the brink of his major success that is surely on its way, are intimate and oddly organic. They are organic considering his inspiration from hip-hop's past, specifically the 90s era. In 2012 he released his debut mixtape, 1999 and Summer Knights in 2013, which were both were well received by hip-hop enthusiasts alike. Joey will soon be releasong his debut studio album, 'B4.DA.$$' later in 2014.

In 2013, Atlanta held it’s 4th Annual One Music Festival at the Old Fourth Ward Park to an ecstatic crowd out to enjoy the festivities. Upon entering the gates, they were pre-occupied with food trucks and vendors on the open terrain. Amongst the performances of a stellar lineup including Snoop Dogg as the headliner, Erykah Badu, CeeLo Green and Goodie Mob, was Pro Era’s Joey Bada$$. Joey had accumulated a large audience around the time he was scheduled to perform earlier in the day. Joey performed a number of songs from his 1999 and SummerKnights mixtapes including, “Waves,” “World Domination,” “Sweet Dreams,” and “95 Til Infinity.” Long time DJ and producer DJ Statik Selektah aided Joey on the turntables and Pro Era member Kirk Knight accompanied him on stage. The 90’s essence was prevalent in their style and sound. For those unfamiliar with the Pro Era movement, their nostalgic sound mirrors the epitome of what hip hop sounded like in the “Golden Age” and perhaps that’s what is so captivating about Pro Era. That old feeling is what keeps his fans satisfied and for some reason, it’s being heard with a new refreshing ear.

Spitting like a veteran in the music industry, Joey gave the crowd his all through his advanced lyrical ability and energetic stage presence. He brought New York to the South and the way that the crowd vibed with him was a clear indication that he was well welcomed.

Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott better known by his stage name Joey Badass has been causing huge waves on the hip hop scene since he first rose to prominence in 2010 at the age of 16. Although many may say that his junior age means he may lack experience and knowledge, he more than makes up for it in youthful enthusiasm.

He performs his live show with such a great energy that clearly communicates to the crowds that he could not be more happy with the situation he is in, he reminds them that he is also grateful between tracks. He demonstrates a lot of skill as a freestyler during 'Greenbax' and 'Save The Children' and this almost acts as justification as to why Joey finds himself stood on large stages to masses of fans at the age of 20 but it is clearly down to his staggering talent.

It is unusual for a new artist to be able to hold a crowd's attention for a 20 strong setlist, yet he does it with ease keeping them jumping to an all cannons blazing rendition of 'Freestyle'.

I saw Joey Bada$$ in Mesa AZ on July 18th for his All Amerikkkan Badass tour and it was absolutely amazing, I got the vip so I had early entry to the venue and I got an amazing spot, he was very energetic and was able to hype the crowd up immensely, the DJ also did an amazing job as well, hopping on his booth and dancing, to being part hype man as well. He had us do cell phone lights for his song Devastated which was very cool to see everyone participate, and he ranged music from all the way to his mixtape 1999 to his newest album, All Amerikkkan Badass. He even brought another member of pro era up on stage, it was quite fun and full of energy and lots of amazing Bass from the speakers, would absolutely go again 10/10

Well i can tell ya this concert was full of stars. A whole heep of rap artist and djs occupied the stage and sometimes all at once. It was my second rap concert and joey blew the crowd away. After surviving 8 or so rappers, joey come on with a bang. Asap rocky and the pro era crew also made an apperance which was AWESOME. It was a little uneasy to sit through some of the earlier rappers with high anticipation for joey, but it was well worth the wait. Everyone who is a joey bada$$ fan must go see him live. Hes an amazing performer and his music makes you feel like a booble head lol.

Great set! Lots of energy and a positive forward thinking message from Joey. From the old 'Survival Tactics' with Steez to Joey's new music such as the unreleased track he performed. The gig had everything you could want. The day 1 fans will have enjoyed it more as many sons were dedicated to them and so I felt right at home. Big shoutouts to Sampa the Great who was a solid and fast-flowing killer! One of my favourite emcees and definitely built the atmosphere up nicely. Anyone who hasn't seen the Badman live, do.

Awesome show. All the guys in Beast Coast having a lot of fun. Joey Headlined with Flatbush before him, and Under achievers and others opening the show. Joey came out for verses on Beast Coast tracks that were played throughout the show, before coming out as the headliner which was cool. They had these guys hooked up to harnesses flying around the stage. Great time. Mosh Pits, Joey crowd surfing. Couldnt ask for a better show. Pro Era, Joey Badmon and all Beast Coast are always puttin on!

About Joey Bada$$

Joey Bada$$ avatar

If Joey Bada$$ doesn't ring any bells, then you've been missing out on a 90s hip-hop-influenced rapper living in the new millennium. Often compared to a sound similar to Nas and with influences from Tupac or MF DOOM, Joey Bada$$ is not adhering to the new way of rapping and prefers to keep things more fluid and retro. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Joey first got his shot at the big stage when he joined Pro Era collective with which he released three mixtapes. With a passion for the indie and alienated sound, Joey Bada$$ released his debut studio album, B4.Da.$$, in 2015, that left a mark on the Billboard charts that year. His passion for everything that's unusual came intro fruition as he began collaborating with bands like Glass Animals and obtrusive groups like Tablo. He's not reinventing the rapping wheel, but he surely brings the fresh hip-hop sound back to where it belongs!
