How Much Show Money Should I Have in My Bank Account When Applying for a Korean Visa?

The Embassy doesn’t set any minimum balance requirement for visa applications.

But ideally, the current balance in your bank account should be commensurate with the length of your stay in Korea.

The estimated daily expense for a trip to Korea is Php 10,000 (which already includes airfare and accommodations). So if you’ll stay there for 10 days, Php 100,000 should be enough as show money.

In this step-by-step guide to filling out the South Korea visa application, I’ll walk you through the entire process of applying for a South Korean Tourist Visa. From understanding the types of visas available to collecting your visa and preparing for your journey, by the end of this article, you’ll have all the information you need to embark on your South Korean adventure with confidence!

WHAT IS COVERED IN THIS ARTICLE?

Understanding the South Korea Tourist Visa

South Korea Tourist Visa

When it comes to understanding the South Korean tourist Visa, here’s what you need to know:

Short-Term Tourist Visa (C-3) A.K.A. South Korea Tourist Visa

If you’re planning to explore South Korea’s beauty and culture for a short stay, the Short-Term Tourist Visa, known as C-3, is your go-to-choice. With this visa, you can enjoy up to 90 days in South Korea, perfect for tourists, transit passengers, individuals seeking medical treatment, or those attending cultural events.

However, keep in mind that this visa doesn’t allow you to engage in any paid work during your stay.

Step-by-Step Application Process for a South Korea Visa Application

Now that you’ve got a grasp of the basics regarding the South Korean Tourist visa, let’s dive into the core of this guide: a step-by-step walkthrough for your South Korea visa application.

Step 1: Determine Whether You Need to Apply for a South Korea Visa or Not

The first step is to determine whether you fall into the category of travelers who need a South Korea Tourist Visa or if you are among those fortunate enough to be exempted from this requirement. You can check this on South Korea’s official Visa Portal.

Visa Exemption for Certain Nationalities

If you’re from specific countries like the European Union nations (except Cyprus), Australia, Canada, or the United States, South Korea offers you the privilege of visa exemption, allowing you to enter the country without a visa for varying durations.

However, such travelers from these visa-exempt nations must complete an online application for an electronic visitor visa waiver for South Korea, known as K-ETA . which offers the convenience of a fully digital process. Before you do anything else, make sure to verify your eligibility for the K-ETA.

Visa Requirements for Certain Nationalities

Application-Method

If you do not qualify for visa-free entry, you will need to apply for a South Korean Tourist Visa through the Korean Embassy. The key factors to consider for this include your nationality and the purpose of your visit. Remember, South Korea doesn’t issue sticker visas to be affixed to your passport. Also, having a travel history, especially in OECD countries, can significantly increase your chances of getting approved for a Korean visa.

Step 2: Prepare for South Korea Visa Requirements

After confirming that you do require a South Korean Tourist Visa, the next crucial step is to diligently prepare all the necessary documents, including your passport and any specific requirements for the South Korean Tourist Visa well in advance.

This foresight ensures that you won’t find yourself in a last-minute scramble when these essential documents are requested during the submission process.

Remember, the specific South Korea visa requirements can vary depending on your nationality and the type of visa you’re applying for. It’s essential to always check with the relevant Embassy or Consulate for the most up-to-date and accurate information before you start your application process!

Once you’ve verified everything, confirm the payment.

The next step now is to submit your visa application!

Now, you have to wait for some time for the visa application to be processed.

Applying with a Sponsor in South Korea

If you have a sponsor or host in South Korea, they can apply for a “Confirmation of Visa Issuance” on your behalf through the South Korea Visa Portal of the Korea Immigration Office. The steps include:

  • Online Application: Your sponsor must complete the online South Korea Visa application form.
  • Payment: Pay the required fee for the application.

However, avoid applying more than three months ahead of your travel plans.

Visa Validity and Duration

Understanding the validity and duration of your South Korea visa is crucial for planning your trip. Here’s what to keep in mind:

Top 5 Reasons for Your South Korea Visa Denial

korea visa grant

If your South Korean tourist visa has been denied, you might be wondering why your visa application was rejected. Here are some common reasons:

  • You may not meet the requirements for the type of visa you applied for.
  • Your application may have incorrect or missing information.
  • The documents you submitted might not meet the visa requirements.
  • There could be safety or security concerns about your visa application.
  • Health concerns if you’re carrying an infectious disease.

To avoid having your tourist visa denied, be careful when filling out the application form. Make sure all the information matches your passport exactly.

Remember, even if your visa is approved, it doesn’t guarantee entry into South Korea. The final decision is made by border officials.

Extending Your Stay or Changing Your South Korean Visa Status

Should you wish to stay in South Korea beyond the expiration date of your visa, you have the option to apply for a visa extension at the Immigration Office in South Korea.

To do this, ensure you apply for the South Korea visa extension at least four months before your current visa’s expiration. You will need to submit the following documents for a visa extension:

  • Your passport
  • The completed application form for permission of extension of stay (available for download online)
  • Payment of the processing fee
  • Your Foreign Registration Card (if you are extending a long-term visa)
  • Any additional documents are required based on the specific visa category and your circumstances.

By following these guidelines, you can navigate the waiting period and the potential outcomes of your South Korea visa application with clarity and preparation.

South Korea is an incredible destination waiting for you to explore, with its unique blend of tradition, modernity, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality. As you embark on your South Korean adventure, you might initially find the visa application process daunting, but don’t worry; it’s simpler than it seems.

All you need to do is ensure that your information and documents are accurate and verified. Keep a close eye on your emails from the Embassy and notifications to ensure a smooth application process and increase your chances of visa approval.

Getting an approved Korean visa is somewhat similar to the process of securing a Japan visa. Both embassies will ask you to pass financial documents and evidence that you have close ties to your country of origin. With the influx of foreigners visiting South Korea, there have been changes in the process of visa application ?

Since July 1, 2018, the temporary visa applications must be done through designated travel agencies, thus, the embassy is not accepting any walk-ins or online appointments.

There are two types of Korean visas: single-entry and multiple-entry.

A Single-entry visa is v alid for 3 months from the date of issuance while a  Multiple-entry visa ‘s v alidity depends on the period following the date of issuance.

For visas related to diplomatic purposes, official business, or treaties, the visa is valid for not more than 3 years. Unfortunately, Filipinos do not enjoy visa-free in entering South Korea, and some say getting a visa stamp is as hard as entering a needle hole. ?

Q & A Approved Korean Visa

How much show money do you need.

It depends on your itinerary and duration of stay. Unlike Japan embassy, the Korean embassy won’t ask you to pass an itinerary. But in the application form, you have to put the estimated travel cost, intended period of stay, intended date of entry, the address where you will stay, and its contact number. So you have to be careful on filing up the form.

For example, I declared that I would be visiting South Korea with my husband and 5 years old daughter. My husband and I declared 800 USD (40,000 PHP) estimated travel cost for 4 days stay, respectively. That was equivalent to 200 USD (approximately 10,000 PHP) per day. I allocated 600 USD for my daughter’s estimated travel cost.

If you’re going to do the same, your bank certificate MUST HAVE more than 2,800 USD or 150,000 PHP for 3 individuals to show that you can cover your travel expenses. ?

If you’re going solo, 700 USD to 940 USD (40,000 PHP to 50,000 PHP) is enough for 5 day’s stay.

In another scenario, I know some people who still got denied Korean visas even if they have big money in their bank accounts.

Complete Documents

A certificate of Employment is as essential as your bank certificate because it is an indicator that you have close ties to your country. Make sure that the contact details of your Human Resource Department or management are included in your certificate of Employment. I am a project employee so I just passed a Certificate of Talent Service and I still got my Korean visa.

I have heard some testimonies that some overseas workers have a slim chance of getting Korean visa approval. Perhaps, the Korean embassy has more scrutinizing eyes on their contracts, and the fact they are working abroad, the consul is probably a little dubious about their intentions of entering the Korean peninsula. ?

Application Period

We processed our visa application in Attic Tours Philippines in Pasay City, two weeks before our departure date. They were very accommodating and they explained thoroughly the process and requirements. Our visas were released in just 2 days perhaps due to the inclusion of our Japan arrival stamps in the requirements. ?

Chance of getting visa approval for 1st-time traveler abroad

I know some of my colleagues who got approved Korean visa for their first travel abroad. So don’t be daunted if you’re planning to visit South Korea as your first country destination.

Booking a flight before applying for a visa

To be honest, we already had plane tickets before we even applied for Korean Visa. As you already know, we’d been to Japan and we also booked our flight before  we processed and got an approved Japan visa.

It is not necessary to buy plane tickets before processing your ROK visa. It is more practical to wait for your visa approval before you book your flight because it also saves you the  headache  of  worrying  about whether you’ll be denied or approved.  ?

Booking a hotel accommodation before the visa application

Worry no more because Booking.com offers you numerous hotel accommodations with free cancellation and no prepayment needed. On the other hand, if you want to experience living in a Korean home, you may opt to stay in an AIRBNB house .  (click here to get almost 30 USD or 1,600 PHP discount on your first booking)

Thanks for this update. I’m planning to apply soon for my November trip!

Hi. We applied to one of the agency last tuesday Aug 7 and they said they already submittted our requirements to korean embassy. I tried checking our visa status in the website but result is always no data found. Anyone has same experience? Thank you.

did you write your passport number and surname? try it again. sometimes, a comma or period change the result.

hi i got denied but my grandfather got approved 🙁 he’s 85yrs old. no one will acompany him . reason of denial: statements on your document can not be proved. sad part is he’s too excited abt our trip. ❤?

hi, did you try to appeal? I heard they allow applicants to write a letter addressed to the consul and in just one or two hours, they will review your appeal and you’ll get a response.

hi! thank you for this blog! very informative! just want to ask, on the application form, do i need to put N/A on those fields not applicable or just leave it blank? thanks in advance!

I suggest that you put N/A and don’t leave any blank. 🙂

My agency submitted my application yesterday sept 25, however when I try ko check ky application visa online its still “no search data has been found”. Does it mean my visa is denied

nope, where did you submit your application? The agency usually forwards your application to the embassy after a day or two, then expect result saying your visa is on process after 3 to 4 days. If you have oecd visa, then you can expect result earlier than usual, around 3 to 5 days from your date of submission. 🙂

Ate, what if I am coming from a diff country? How will I apply for my visa? Do I apply here or in the PHL? Fam plans to go to Korea in 2020 when I come home. What to do?

alam ko pwede ka mag-apply if may embassy diyan ng korea. pero much better if dito ka mag-apply kasi mas familiar ang mga taga-rito sa documents na hihingin from you. 🙂

Hi, I just want to ask if i can fill in the intended of days is 4days only pero i plan to stay for 6days?

Yes you can 🙂 you will be given at least 15 days of stay naman for single visa entry 🙂

Hi! Im a first time traveller, i have maintained a show bal of 50k below let us say 48k. For 5 days stay, I am a govt employee, will it be possibe to get approved?

Yes it is highly possible. Just limit the number of places you want to visit and make it appropriate to you budget.

Hi! We applied last January 29 for our korean visa. January 30 ngcheck ako online and it shows application received. But when i check it now, it shows no search data has been found for me pero application received naman doon sa dalawa kong kasama. Anyone who experience this?

Ganyan din nangyari sa co-worker ko. Found out something about spelling and spacing ang issue. Not sure if yung nangyari sa iyo is a glitch sa system lang. But hopefully approved ang next mo makitang result.

Hi, how was your application po? Were you approved? Currently experiencing the same thing huhu does this mean denied pag no search data has been found?

hi, planning to apply for a korean visa. i’m employed but i don’t have a bank account. so mom ko magsponsor sakin kaso unemployed din sya kaya yung savings account nya is galing sa remittances ng father ko. How it will work kaya? Thank you

Baka pwedeng ang father mo ang sponsor mo instead of your mom. 🙂

Grabe, feeling ko nagteleport na ako ng Korea 😍😍 napakagandang lugar naman talaga kasi

SHOW MONEY for VISA APPLICATION & IMMIGRATION: Everything We Know So Far

SHOW MONEY for VISA APPLICATION & IMMIGRATION: Everything We Know So Far

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

“How much show money should I have in the bank to guarantee my visa application approval?”

If I earned a dollar for every time I got that question, I would be pretty wealthy by now. Easily, this is the most frequently asked question on our social channels. We also make sure that we answer this in the FAQs section of our visa posts. Yet, we still get a lot of messages about it. It’s not difficult to understand why. Out of all the documents that embassies usually require from applicants, this is probably the most vague and the most complicated.

First of all, nothing and no one can guarantee approval of your visa application . You can have a huge sum on your account and still get denied a visa. Whether your application will be approved or rejected depends on a smorgasbord of factors. Yes, financial capacity is one of them, but it is JUST ONE of them. The other requirements have to be equally, if not more, satisfactory.

But how much is enough? In this article, I’ll try to answer in detail this burning question and all the other inquiries that we usually get about show money. I’m compiling everything that Vins and I know about the subject, so that we could have just one page to link to whenever we’re asked about it.

korea tourist visa show money

Note, however, that I don’t work for any consulate or embassy. All these are speculations based on the patterns and similarities we see in our applications, talks with travel agents, and experiences of our family, friends and members of our Support Group. Much of the evaluation process isn’t visible to outsiders. At the end of the day, it’s an exercise in making educated guesses.

So without further ado, let’s begin!

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

What is show money?

Most embassies require visa applicants to submit proof of funds. On the surface, it seems like they do so to make sure that applicants can sufficiently support themselves financially during the trip (financial capacity). But it is actually much deeper than that.

More than financial capacity, they’re also concerned about rootedness . Let’s discuss rootedness first because we will be circling back to it numerous times in this article.

What is rootedness?

Remember, many applicants try to secure a tourist visa just for show, but once they’re in their destination, they will stay longer and work there. We, Filipinos, are notorious for it. We even developed a slang term for it: TNT, “tago nang tago,” referring to the act of constantly hiding from police or immigration authorities. In other words, you need to show that your life here in the Philippines is good and stable, and that you have no reason to overstay abroad.

They have all the right to reject anyone whom they suspect may not contribute to their economy or violate their laws. Having good financial standing is one of the ways you can minimize those doubts and prove to them that you have a good life here and that you have no reason to overstay or work in their country.

But there are cases wherein Immigration Officers ask for it too, depending on the country. I’ll talk more about that below.

How do I prove that I have enough money to travel?

korea tourist visa show money

  • A bank certificate is usually a one-page document that certifies that you have an account with that branch. Often, the latest available balance is indicated. But in some banks, you can request that some details be included.
  • A bank statement , sometimes called a statement of account, is a detailed record of the balance and the transactions on that account within a specified period of time. It includes the amounts deposited into, the amounts withdrawn from, and even the interests gained by that account, and the corresponding dates.

Which is better to submit?

The period that must be covered also varies. For Korean visa, you need to present the transactions within the past three months. For Canadian visa, four months is sufficient. For Chinese, Schengen and most other visas, six months is the standard.

How to get a bank certificate or bank statement?

The rules vary from bank to bank. For example, in my experience, BDO requires that you secure these documents from the branch where you opened your account. You can’t get one from any other branch. I have tried many times but they always require me to personally appear at my branch. One of my accounts is in the province so I always have to travel there just to tick them off the requirements list.

On the other hand, BPI allows their customers to get these documents from any of their branch. It’s ideal for me because I have just moved to a different address. My original BPI branch is already pretty far from where I live currently but I don’t need to go there to request for it.

Service fees usually apply. Try to get a copy of the official receipt too because some embassies require that it be attached to the document.

What do embassies check on my account?

Embassies requiring a bank statement check not just the latest balance. They scrutinize the following:

  • Balance. How much funds you have on your account.
  • Opening date. The date the account was opened. New accounts almost always raise suspicions.
  • Transactions. The amounts deposited into and the amounts withdrawn from that account. They also check how regular the activities are.
  • Irregularities. They check for anomalies in the transactions. For example, if there is a one-time big-time deposit, which is usually suspicious and indicative of gaming the system.
  • Consistency with your other documents. They compare the record of transactions with your Certificate of Employment or ITR (Income Tax Returns). If they see that things don’t add up, it can be a reason for rejection. For example, if your salary is only P15,000 per month but your bank account shows few deposits of P100,000 each, that can raise some red flags and be the cause of denial.

How much show money should I have in the bank to be granted a visa?

There is no one-ring-to-rule-them-all answer to this because it varies depending on many factors like: the country you are traveling to, the length of your trip, and the itinerary that you will submit.

My personal rule is P10,000 per day + airfare + cost of hotel. But that’s just me. I’ll explain below.

Most embassies don’t really disclose how much money you should have on your bank account. One probable exception is the Chinese Embassy which, according to some travel agencies, requires that your bank account have at least P100,000. (I say “probable” because I know people who have lower balance but were still granted a visa.)

That said, some embassies disclose how much “pocket money” you should have per day when visiting their country. For example:

  • For France, their visa application website indicates EUR 120 per day, if accommodations have not been settled.
  • For other Schengen countries like Germany, Greece, and Italy, it varies but usually between EUR 40 and EUR 60. Just assume it’s EUR 60, to be on the safe side.
  • For Turkey, it’s USD 50 per day.

I guess the key thing to remember here is that how much you have should be proportional to how long your stay is. For example, if you have only P100,000, don’t apply for a 59-day stay because that would obviously raise a lot of questions regarding whether or not you can afford the trip.

Add the total to the cost of flights and the cost of accommodations, and you should have the minimum amount on your bank account. MINIMUM because, of course, they have to be convinced that you will NOT be burning ALL your life savings during the trip and that you should still be able to live comfortably after. Again, it’s also about rootedness.

It’s complicated, I know. That’s why I just follow my personal rule: P10,000 per day + airfare + cost of hotel.

It works for me every time because it has plenty of allowance.

I don’t have enough funds. Can I borrow money and transfer it to my account?

Some people do it, but this is something I DO NOT RECOMMEND OR ENCOURAGE .

korea tourist visa show money

Like I said earlier, embassies examine the details of your financial documents. According to a friend who used to be a visa officer, they are trained to spot inconsistencies and anomalies, and it’s pretty easy to do. If they see that some things don’t match or there are unusual transactions, eyebrows will raise.

Can I ask someone to sponsor my trip when applying for a visa?

Yes, you can. However, it does not always mean it will increase your chances of approval.

For Japan, this can work. When applying for a Japan visa with a sponsor, the applicant may choose to not submit a bank certificate and provide proof of funds from the sponsor instead. The burden shifts to the sponsor.

However, for most other countries, having a sponsor does not exempt you from show money and could even hurt your application. For most visas like Korean, Canadian, and Schengen, even if you have a sponsor, you will still need to submit your own bank documents. You may have the means to support your trip financially through someone else, but they still need to see show money to confirm your stability and rootedness.

Will I still have to submit my own bank documents if I have a sponsor?

See previous section.

My bank account is newly opened. Can I use that?

It’s going to be a very risky move. A newly opened bank account can raise some red flags because it looks like you only opened one to apply for a visa, which is a no-no.

If you plan on visiting visa countries in the future, even if you’re not applying for a visa anytime soon, it’s best to open a bank account as soon as you can. We discussed this in a separate post: LONG TERM PREPARATIONS FOR VISA APPLICATION!

Can I use a payroll account in visa application?

Before anything else, let’s define what a payroll account is.

A payroll account can be either:

  • EMPLOYER’s payroll account , which refers to the account into which the employer deposits funds and from which the salary or wages of the employees on the payroll will be drawn.
  • EMPLOYEE’S payroll account , which is the account where the employee receives their salary or wages regularly.

If you’re an employee and you’re referring to the latter, it still depends on what type of payroll account you have. But YES, I have tried using it for visa application a few times back when I was a corporate slave and never had any issues with it. I think it’s important that your payroll account meets the following:

  • It is under your name , not your employer’s.
  • It has the characteristics of a personal savings account , as opposed to a cash card or prepaid account.
  • The bank can issue a bank certificate and bank statement for your account.
  • It has sufficient balance to cover your trip.
  • It’s NOT a newly opened account.

If not your payroll account doesn’t have enough funds, you can submit it along with your other accounts to make a stronger case. I like submitting my payroll account because it shows where my money is coming from and is consistent with my COE and ITR.

If you’re an employer and you’re referring to the former, I have no idea if you can use this account. I have not done it (as an employer).

Can I use a joint account in visa application?

YES. I do this most of the time.

In the past few years, I have been using two joint accounts when I’m applying for a visa: one with my business partner (AND account) and the other with my mom (OR account).

I have used the OR account on its own before and had no issues. But I have never used my AND account on its own. I use it together with other accounts, so I am not sure if an AND account is acceptable as a stand alone proof of funds.

Can I submit multiple bank accounts when applying for a visa?

Yes, you can. I do it most of the the time. This paints a clear picture of my finances, so the embassy could easily understand. I have at least three bank accounts now:

  • Payroll account, where I get my salary.
  • Savings account, where I transfer my savings, not to be touched unless emergency. This is also my joint account with my mom. (I give my mom access to my savings, for emergency purposes.)
  • Travel account, which is another savings account that I set up specifically for saving up for my trips.

I submit all three accounts when I’m applying for a visa. Usually, at least. Sometimes, when I get lazy, I just submit one or two.

Do Immigration officers in the Philippines look for show money upon exit?

Sometimes. It’s hard to tell whether or not they will ask you for show money. But yes, they do in certain cases.

korea tourist visa show money

According to the Bureau of Immigration , financial capability is NOT a requirement for traveling abroad. However, if they suspect that the traveler is not telling the truth about their purpose of travel, they may need you to undergo secondary inspection.

According to a memorandum entitled Guidelines on Departure Formalities for International-Bound Passengers , released by the Bureau of Immigration to their airport and seaport officers in 2012, in the secondary inspection, the traveler will be evaluated based on age, educational attainment, and… *drum roll* financial capability to travel.

To be clear, NOT ALL travelers will undergo a secondary inspection, only those who are suspected of having a different purpose of travel. According to the bureau (as told to a news agency), tourists who are more likely to be questioned are:

  • First-time tourists flying to a not-so-popular destination.
  • Tourists with no steady source of income in the Philippines and no benefactors.

If you’re unemployed and it’s your first time to travel abroad, there’s a big chance you will need to undergo secondary inspection and be asked to present proof of financial capability.

I have no money in the bank. What can I do to avoid getting offloaded?

Get a sponsor who can shoulder your travel expenses. This applies to students, fresh graduates, or unemployed individuals who have no capability to support the trip financially.

Ideally, the sponsor is a Filipino immediate relative . You should have the following notarized documents ready:

  • Affidavit of support indicating the relationship within the 4th civil degree of consanguinity or affinity, together with the supporting documents.
  • Affidavit of undertaking/ guaranty

You can merge these two items into just one document — an Affidavit of Support and Guarantee — to reduce notarization fees.

Sometimes the Immigration Officer won’t ask for it, but it’s better to come prepared.

However, note that having the above papers does not guarantee getting through. It will increase your chances, but it’s still up to your demeanor and answers, and the judgment of the Immigration Official.

If I am sponsored by someone else, will the Immigration Officer ask for show money upon exit?

Maybe. According to a friend who is an Immigration Officer, in addition to the Affidavit of Support and Guarantee, the traveler must also provide proof that the sponsor can support the trip. This may be the sponsor’s bank documents (show money), Certificate of Employment, or ITR.

If your sponsor is a foreigner or a Filipino based abroad, there may be additional complications. Please check the links below for more details.

  • For travelers sponsored by a Filipino accompanying you on the trip
  • For travelers sponsored by a Filipino abroad
  • For travelers sponsored by a foreigner

Again, whether or not they will ask for proof of funds depends solely on the judgment of the Immigration Officer.

Do Immigration Officers abroad look for show money upon arrival in their country?

It depends on the country you’re visiting. For example, as a matter of policy, Thailand requires foreign visitors to have at least 10,000 baht per person or 20,000 per family (or the equivalent amount in another currency) in cash upon entry.

Another example is Taiwan, which requires visa-free Filipino travelers to have proof of sufficient travel funds in the form of cash, credit cards, travelers checks, or similar forms. They don’t really say how much exactly.

However, it is not always implemented. Our team has been in and out of Thailand and Taiwan but none of us were asked how much cash we carry or how much budget we allocate for the trip.

That said, for countries that have a show money rule, it is always best to comply, just in case they ask. It’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I personally have been asked about funds in other countries. In the Maldives and in another country — I can’t remember if it was Australia or Singapore — I was asked how much money I had with me. I answered truthfully and shared that I also had a credit card and an ATM card. In both occasions, they let me through without any more questions.

Hi, Yosh! Lumabas both your name and your mom’s name sa Joint Account sa Bank Certificate and Bank Statement?

Yosh Dimen

Hi Iza, yes po. Andun pareho yung names namin.

I think sa BDO, kapag OR account, may option ka na name mo lang yung mag-appear pero need ng permission nung ka-joint account. Nagawa ko na sya once before, pero di ko alam if pwede pa rin sya hanggang ngayon.

Mary Grace Dilag

Hi Yosh, just want to ask lang po if Insurance policy, retirement fund and investments pwede i-add sa requirements? Thank you!

Yung investments po, pwede. Yung retirement fund, di ko po sure kasi di ko pa naranasan/naitanong. Baka pwede naman if along with other bank accounts.

Yung insurance policy po na tinutukoy nyo ay ung life insurance? Nagsubmit din ako dati once (separate sa travel insurance na required ng schengen) kasi ung sa akin ay ung may kasamang investment, pero di ko na matandaan kung anong country haha.

Do you have any idea how far back they’ll trace the income if you can’t provide an ITR? I’m a freelancer and have irregular payouts.

Kimmie

Hi! How will the joint bank account work for married couples na applying? The other is a freelancer while the other has stable job. In the application form, there’s a question for the funding. Should we both put “half me half sponsor”? Or the one with stable job can state to sponsor all expenses for the other one? And the freelancer can choose “fully sponsored” in the funding part? I’m really confused po

Hello would like to know can the embassy contact my bank to ask about the funds or ask also how long been using the bank and the bank can it provide the information without my request???

Thank you so much for this info! Husband and I are applying for a Canadian tourist VISA this month, and it’s to be sponsored by his parents who live there, but we plan to still submit documents for proof of rootedness like you suggested. For my case though I recently opened (like last week) a Checking account and used funds from my Savings account (3 years old) to open it with 100k. I plan to get a banking statement reflecting both accounts… Would that possible be questioned since my Checking account is new? Or should I just show only my Savings account?

Jo Mi

aside from employment certificate and ITR, pwede ko din po ba ipakita yung youtube earnings ko if not sa visa officers, sa immigration officers if they ask for back up?

Hi Jo Mi! Yep, pwede naman ‘yun. Basta enough to show na sustainable.

How much money do I need in bank for Korean visa?

When applying for a Korean visa, one of the requirements is to show proof of financial capability. This means that you need to have enough funds in your bank account to cover your expenses while staying in Korea. Here’s a breakdown of how much money you need in your bank for a Korean visa:

1. Determine your purpose of visit

The amount of money you need in your bank account depends on your purpose of visit. If you’re going for tourism, the required amount is different from those who are going for business or study purposes.

2. Check the embassy’s website

The embassy’s website provides a list of requirements for each type of visa. Check the site to know the specific amount of money you need in your bank account.

3. Show proof of income

You need to show proof of income to prove that you have the financial capability to support your stay in Korea. This may include pay slips, tax returns or bank statements.

4. Calculate your expenses

You should also calculate your expenses while staying in Korea. This includes accommodation, transportation, food and other personal expenses.

5. Consider the length of stay

The longer your stay, the higher the amount of money you need in your bank account. Take note that the required amount varies depending on the duration of stay.

6. Show proof of hotel reservation

If you have already booked a hotel, show proof of reservation as it can be considered as part of your financial capability.

7. Show proof of round-trip ticket

You also need to show proof of round-trip ticket to prove that you have enough money to cover your travel expenses.

8. Know the required amount for each visa type

The required amount varies for each visa type. For a tourist visa, the minimum amount is around $2,000. For a student visa, it can go up to $10,000 or more.

9. Prepare additional funds

It’s always best to prepare additional funds in case of emergency or unexpected expenses. You may also need to show proof of additional funds in your bank account.

10. Show consistency in bank transactions

The embassy also checks the consistency of your bank transactions. Avoid sudden large deposits or withdrawals as it may raise suspicion.

11. Use a bank statement with an official seal

Your bank statement should have an official seal from your bank to prove its authenticity.

12. Seek assistance from travel agencies

If you’re unsure about the requirements or the amount needed, seek assistance from travel agencies or visa application centers.

Do you need bank statements for K 1 visa?

13. Be honest with your financial capability

It’s important to be honest with your financial capability when applying for a Korean visa. Don’t overstate or understate your funds as it may lead to visa denial or even future visa application problems.

14. Consider getting a sponsor

If you don’t have enough funds, consider getting a sponsor who can provide financial support and show proof of their financial capability.

15. Know the currency conversion rate

If you’re using a foreign currency, make sure to know the currency conversion rate to Korean won to accurately calculate the required amount of funds.

16. Check for updates on the required amount

The required amount of funds may change depending on the embassy’s regulations and policies. Always check for updates and make sure to comply with the latest requirements.

17. Don’t rely solely on bank statements

While bank statements are important, they are not the only requirement for proving your financial capability. You should also consider showing other documents such as credit card statements or property ownership documents.

18. Prepare your documents ahead of time

Preparing your documents ahead of time can save you from stress and hassle during the application process. Make sure to gather all the necessary documents and review them before submitting.

19. Seek professional help if needed

If you’re having difficulty understanding the requirements or filling out the application form, seek professional help from visa consultants or lawyers who specialize in visa applications.

20. Don’t give up if denied

If your visa application is denied, don’t give up. You can always try again and make sure to address the issues that led to the denial. Seek feedback from the embassy or a professional and make the necessary improvements for your next application.

How much is Korea tourist visa for Filipinos?

The visa fee is free, if you’re staying 59 days and below in Korea. It costs ₱2,000 for 60 to 90 days stay in Korea.

South Korea Visa Requirements: Tips for Approval

Having applied for a Korea tourist visa application twice now, and being approved twice also, with a multiple-entry Korea tourist visa , I strongly believe that you can easily get approved for a tourist visa, as long as your requirements are complete and true, and you follow these five effective tips:

Starting January 3, 2023, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea abolished its accreditation on the travel agencies, which exclusively authorizes the accredited agencies to submit visa applications to the Embassy on behalf of individual applicants.

What does this mean?

This means you can still use a travel agency to deliver and submit your applications to the embassy.

But Korean visa applications must be channeled only through the online visa appointment system .

Individual applicants and travel agencies are required to secure one appointment slot for one Korean tourist visa application .

Schedule of Online Visa Appointment

How can you secure a slot at the online visa appointment system? It will open every last Thursday of the month, starting at 9AM, so better be prepared before that for you to reserve a lot.

korea visa for filipinos korean visa appoinment schedule

This is super important :

If you don’t have a printed copy or a soft copy of the confirmation of the visa appointment made through the online system, your visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea will be denied and you can’t continue your Korean tourist visa application.

If it’s your first-time travelling to South Korea, don’t get too carried away in your Korea visa for Filipinos application. 🙂

Most people I’ve talked to who were approved said they only put 5 to 7 days in their Korean visa application form, to lessen the risk of them overstaying.

Also, the consul considers your budget stated in the form, and if it’s in sync with the budget in your bank certificate.

Yes, even if you think you can spend only ₱20,000 for a two-week vacation in Seoul because you’ll be doing budget travel, it’s still more prudent to think in terms of what the consul will think .

If you can’t afford to put in a lot of money in the bank, it’s safer to state you’ll be staying for less than 7 days only.

Want to know about the show money for Korean tourist visa for in the Philippines?

If you’re applying for a Korean tourist visa on the 28th, putting a large amount of money on the 8th so that you’ll have a bigger amount is NOT suggested. It can be seen in your bank statements !

Don’t be concerned about “how much” your money should be.

Instead, be concerned about how long and how active…your bank account is.

It’s preferable that your bank account has been active for one year or more .

Most consuls would also give you plus points if they see that your bank account has frequent transactions. This means that you’re actually using your bank account , and it’s not just for show. Better if it’s a payroll account, so there’s consistent deposits every time you receive your salary.

Minimum Bank Balance for South Korea Visa

Another frequently asked question when applying for Korea visa for Filipinos is the pocket money dilemma.

A good guideline for pocket money is $100/day (₱5,000) you’re staying in Korea.

Add airfare (₱15,000), accommodation (₱3,000/day) and ₱2,000 (for buffer) so it’ll total to roughly ₱15,000 /day.

So here’s the minimum balance balance you can submit, depending on how long you’re staying in South Korea:

  • 3-5 days: ₱50,000 to ₱70,000
  • 5-7 days: ₱70,000 to ₱90,000

Keep in mind that the above refer to the minimum bank balance, based on my personal experience, and also based on people I’ve talked to.

At the end of the day, it depends on the consul’s decision.

Also, you’re staying for only 5 days and your bank certificate shows ₱500,000, that’s suspicious and may not get you an approval. Why so many money for so few days, my friend? 🙂

korea tourist visa show money

If you’ve traveled to other countries before like Japan, Thailand , Singapore and others, this would really increase your chances of being approved for a Korean tourist visa.

Make sure to attach your old passport IF it contains stamps from your previous travels.

On another note, some travelers I’ve talked to have never been to any country before, so the final decision still depends on the consul .

I’m just saying this would help if the consul saw records of you leaving the country, and coming back with no problems.

Having enough travel history as a tourist can also help you avoid getting offloaded by the Philippine immigration at NAIA or Clark airport.

What documents can prove that you’re coming back home? (2ne1 feels, anyone? Come back home~)

After staying in South Korea, what’ll make you come back home in the Philippines?

No, this is not a Miss Universe question. Saying “my family” or “my amazing life partner” just won’t cut it. 🙂

You need to provide strong, hard evidence that you’ll come back once vacation time is over, such as:

  • Employee : Certificate of Employment, Income Tax Return
  • Student : Certificate of Enrollment, School ID
  • Business owner : DTI or SEC Registration, Business Permit
  • OFW : Tax-exemption form from BIR
  • Freelancers : You’ll be treated as self-employed, and self-employed people need to file and pay for taxes as well. Frequent traveler ka? If you’ve travelled as tourist to OECD member countries within 5 years, you’re exempted from submitting your ITR.

Are you applying for Korea visa for Filipinos?

Let me know if you have any comments below. I’ll do my best to answer them, based on my own experience.

Travelling to Korea soon? Our immigration officers usually ask for travel insurance. Here’s how I bought my own travel insurance plan online .

Visas for South Korea: here’s what you need to know

Charles Usher

Feb 18, 2024 • 4 min read

A young woman traveling in South Korea pauses to enjoy the view while hiking down from the summit of Hallasan, the highest mountain in South Korea located on Jeju Island.

Visiting South Korea lets you take in the country’s cutting-edge cities and beautiful natural attractions © Joel Carillet / Getty Images

Not many countries have the sights-to-size ratio of South Korea . You can get from one corner of the country to the other in just two and a half hours, and in between you’ll find mountain trails leading to Buddhist hermitages, super-spectacle K-Pop concerts, back-alley pubs serving craft rice wines, enchanting bamboo forests and much more.

Getting the most out of a visit here starts with getting your entry requirements in order, a simple enough process for most travelers. Here are the basics on who needs a visa to South Korea and how to apply.

Who can travel to South Korea visa-free?

Many travelers – including those from the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and most European countries – can visit Korea for up to 90 days with no visa required. Canadians can do so for up to six months, while South Africans get 30 days. To check the most up-to-date requirements for your country, visit the Korean government’s Visa Portal and enter your information in its  Visa Navigator .

Although you might not need a visa, you will need to apply for a Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (₩10,000) on the  K-ETA website or K-ETA app (for  iOS  and  Android ) at least 72 hours before your departure. Once you’ve applied, you should receive your results via email within 24 hours. Your K-ETA will remain valid for two years from the date your application is approved, meaning you don’t have to reapply if you visit multiple times within that window.

Who needs a tourist visa for South Korea?

Citizens of countries that don’t have a visa-waiver agreement with South Korea or that Korea doesn’t grant visa-free entry will need a visa, which is typically for a single entry and permits stays of 90 days.

If you do need a visa, after entering your information in the Visa Navigator , select the visa you’re applying for (most likely Ordinary Tourist, or C-3-9) and then find the eligibility criteria that applies to you (most likely “travel for holidays or leisure”). Complete your application online ( e-Form ) or by hand ( downloadable PDF ) and then visit a Korean embassy or consulate with your application or a printout of your completed e-Form, your passport, a 3.5cm x 4.5cm (1.4in x 1.7in) passport photo and any additional required documents. The application fee for a basic tourist visa is $40, though it can vary by country.

The Jeju-do visa exception

Jeju-do Island is a designated Special Tourist Zone, which means many (though not all) citizens from countries that require visas for South Korea do not need them to visit Jeju-do for up to 30 days. Note that you must arrive in Jeju-do via ship or direct flight from abroad; you may not connect through another South Korean airport.

Extending your stay in South Korea

In almost all cases, if you’re visiting South Korea as a tourist, you are not allowed to extend your stay. If you need to stay longer because of an emergency, however, contact the Korea Immigration Service. The Hi Korea website provides immigration info for international visitors and residents.

Visas for working and studying in South Korea

Thanks to its all-conquering pop culture and dynamic economy, South Korea is an attractive destination for international students and professionals, and a wide range of visas is available for those wishing to study or work in the country. The first step is determining which visa you need, whether you’re seeking to enroll in a Korean university, teach English or do something else. You can sort through the options and get details on eligibility and requirements at the Visa Navigator  site. Work and study visas generally permit stays of up to two years, with one year being the most common length.

Working holidays in South Korea

South Korea offers one-year working holiday visas to citizens of 25 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and many European nations. Travelers with a working-holiday visa are permitted to work up to 25 hours per week and can also study the Korean language at private academies and university programs. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Working Holiday Info Center and Working Holiday Guide provide extensive information on who can apply, what the restrictions are, and work, study and housing resources.

Visas for people of Korean descent

If you’re of South Korean descent, you’ll likely have the option of applying for an overseas Korean visa, colloquially referred to as a gyopo visa. These are available to individuals who were born in Korea but have acquired another country’s citizenship or whose parent or grandparent was a Korean citizen. These visas allow initial stays of up to two years and provide a lot of flexibility in terms of what you can do for work or study.

I. HOW TO APPLY FOR A SOUTH KOREAN TOURIST VISA (STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE)

Depending on your purpose, there are different types of Korean Visas you can apply for, (such as business visa, student visa, etc.) . You may skip applying for a Korean Visa, ONLY if you are qualified to: South Korea Visa-free Program for Filipinos .

This guide is for those applying for a KOREAN TOURIST VISA (with and without sponsor/invitation) only if the purpose of visit is Short-term or for Leisure/Tourism .

If you have a different situation or intention/s, it’s best to directly contact the Embassy of Korea in the Philippines for more information.

Make sure all documents are clear and readable. Read this: KOREAN VISA REQUIREMENTS LIST for Filipinos .

TIP! You can also submit other relevant documents that prove the reason for your travel (such as medical certificate, invitation letter, etc.) .

As of July, 2018 , due to the rapid increase of Visa applicants, The Embassy of Korea in the Philippines no longer accepts direct applications from individuals applying for Tourist Visa except for special cases (such as a spouse or child of a Korean national/citizen, a government employee on a business trip, and the Korean Consulate in Cebu ). Otherwise, the only way to apply is through travel agencies accredited by the Embassy. Read this: KOREAN VISA Full List of Accredited Travel Agencies by the Embassy (with contact details) .

The Korean Embassy does not charge a Visa fee for stays shorter than 59 days , however accredited travel agencies do and they usually range from (P500-P2,000) as processing fee. For Visa applications of stays ranging from 60 to 90 days, the Embassy charges P1,800 as Visa fee (this is on top of the travel agency processing fee).

TIP! Be as early as you can on the day of submission as lines can get quite long at times in some travel agencies.

Processing time takes 10-15 business days , but take note that this is very unpredictable due to the influx of South Korea Visa applicants. Which is why I recommend applying at least a month or two before your intended travel to allow ample time.

The travel agency will notify you via SMS/Text messages once your passport is available for collection but, they wouldn’t usually tell if your visa is approved or not. Some agencies offer different arrangements to claim your passport (such as mail delivery, etc.) .

KOREAN SINGLE-ENTRY VISA | thepassportlad.com

In my experience back in 2017, I applied directly at the Korean Embassy in Manila and I got my Visa after 5 business days.

TIP! If approved, it’s always best practice to check and make sure all information on your Visa is correct to avoid complications in your travels. GOOD LUCK!

I hope you find this helpful in getting your Visa. If you have other tips, suggestions or you have gone through a different Visa procedure, please share your experience in the comment section to help out others. Let’s make this place be the source of useful information and a start of meaningful conversations that gives value to others! 🙂

1. Is Travel Insurance required to apply for a Korean Tourist Visa?

NO. It’s not part of Korean Visa Requirements . However once your Visa is approved, I strongly recommend getting one because while South Korea is a very safe destination, remember that you can’t really eliminate the risk when traveling, but you can always add protection! That said, here’s my recommendations;

  • For the best “budget-friendly travel insurance”: SafetyWings
  • For the best “travel insurance coverage”: World’s Nomads

2. How much is the Korean Visa fee?

It’s FREE , but accredited travel agencies charge from (P500-P2,000) as processing fee (for stays less than 59 days) . An additional (P1,800) change by the Embassy only for those who applied for Visa (stays ranging from 60 to 90 days) .

3. Is Korean Visa Fee refundable?

Unfortunately, it’s Non-Refundable regardless of the outcome ( Approved / Denied / Withdrew ).

4. Do I need a travel agency to apply for a Korean Visa?

The Embassy of Korea in the Philippines no longer accepts direct applications from individuals applying for Tourist Visa except for special cases (such as a spouse or child of a Korean national/citizen, a government employee on a business trip, and the Korean Consulate in Cebu ). Otherwise, the only way to apply is through travel agencies accredited by the Embassy. Read this: KOREAN VISA Full List of Accredited Travel Agencies by the Embassy (with contact details) .

5. How long is the processing time for a Korean Visa?

10-15 business days , But take note that this is very unpredictable due to the influx of South Korea Visa applicants.

6. How early can I apply for a Korean Visa?

3 months before your intended travel , (but keep in mind that it might be very close to the expiry date).

7. When is the best time to apply for a Korean Visa?

At least a month or two before your intended travel to Korea is the ideal time to apply for a visa. Why? Because sometimes, Korean Visa processing time takes longer than usual due to the volume of the visa application the Embassy receives. Also, it’s always a best practice to allow ample time to avoid complications in your travels.

8. How long is the validity of a Korean Visa?

3 months from the date of approval and for stay up to 59 days (based from my experience with my Korean Single-Entry Visa).

9. Is ‘show money’ required to apply for a Korean Visa?

YES! The Korean Embassy requires financial documents for a reason and that is to establish your financial capability to cover all your expenses while in Korea, as well as your intention to return. If your trip is sponsored by someone, you need to submit their financial documents instead.

10. How much is the ‘show money’ to apply for a Korean Visa?

The Korean Embassy did not specify how much money you should have in the bank. It may be because it varies from person to person and the amount can also be totally different for everybody. But trust me, your financial documents don’t need to have millions, it just has to be realistic! So, if you intend to travel for a duration of 15 days with ONLY P20,000 in the bank, well that will raise a lot of red flags. In this case, you may want to consider applying with a Sponsor/Guarantor.

Most people I know who applied for a 5 to 7-day stay with P100,000+ in their bank accounts were pretty successful in getting a Korean Visa. I guess that’s a reasonable amount for that duration and their situation. But, a friend of mine got approved with only P35,000 in the bank for a 4-day stay. It was very risky, but it worked. I don’t recommend it though.

Again, the amount in your bank account should suffice to all your projected expenses in your trip to Korea, plus some extra funds for miscellaneous expenses. Also, you don’t necessarily have to spend all of them on that trip (which is why others refer to this as ‘Show Money’).

11 Do I need to book flights and hotel/s before applying for a Korean Visa?

No. You are not required to submit nor book flight tickets and hotel/s before applying for a Visa. Applicants are encouraged to secure a visa first before booking their flights and hotel/s.

For the question on the application form regarding your address while in Korea, you can reserve it online ( for FREE ) through through Agoda.com with a REFUNDABLE option if you cancel it a day before your intended stay. That way, you can also fill up the exact address and contact information needed on the application form.

12. What is the approval rate of Korean Visa?

90% is the approval rate for a Korean Visa, according to the travel agency I consulted .

NOTE: This may NOT be the exact approval rate by The Korean Embassy! This is just meant to give you an idea. Besides, not even the actual percentage nor anyone can guarantee you a visa, but only the Visa Officers and how convinced they are with your application.

13. What if my Korean Visa gets denied, can I apply again?

Yes! You can apply again after 6 months (from the date of your initial Korean Visa application results).

14. What’s the address of The South Korean Embassy in the Philippines?

KOREAN EMBASSY IN MANILA 122 Upper McKinley Road, McKinley Town Center, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig Email Address: [email protected] Telephone: (63-2) 856-9210, local no. 270, 500

Guide to Applying for a South Korean Tourist Visa

Applying for a tourist visa for South Korea is relatively simple to do. A tourist visa can be processed within two weeks upon application. However, it’s always better to give yourself some leeway for this process, just in case you stumble across some issues while gathering the necessary requirements.

Also, as of July 1, 2018 , the Korean Embassy in Manila had adopted a new visa application process to address the growing number of visa applicants from our country. While the requirements are still the same, the visa application now has to be coursed through any of the Korean embassy’s accredited travel agencies – but, more on that in a little bit.

IMPORTANT : Walk-in applicants will no longer be entertained at the Korean Embassy in Manila for direct applications effective July 1, 2018.

5. I want to visit Jeju Island, do I still need to have a visa?

No, Filipinos don’t need a visa to go to Jeju. You can stay on the island for up to 30 days.

6. Do I need to book a flight and accommodation before I apply for the visa?

It is not required to have a confirmed ticket and accommodation before you apply. A RESERVED flight ticket and hotel accommodation are advisable (with free cancellation is much better). Don’t take a risk of buying a plane ticket and booking accommodation when you’re not really sure if your visa will get approved or denied. Renting a flight is highly recommended as it’s cheap and reliable.

7. Do I need to have travel insurance ?

Though South Korea is perfectly a safe country, we still recommend you get travel insurance . We don’t know what will happen during your trip. So, having one is advisable!

Hello! I think going to Jeju needs a visa for Filipino passport holders started last year. Has this been lifted already? No need to apply for a permit or visa going to Jeju now?

I think it has been visa-free as always but there were travel restrictions to tourists during the pandemic

2024 Korea Tourist Card Guide: Transport, Shopping & More!

We regret not preparing our Korea tourist cards including the T-Money Card as well as other travel essentials such as the  SIM card , eSIM , and pocket WiFi on our previous Korea trips. We just winged it and thought we could easily buy them upon arrival anyway.

Don’t be like us – it pays to have these Korea travel essentials ready before your trip. This will save you the hassle of having to look for stores offering them in Korea. And, you may actually save on costs since you can strategically plan your Korea itinerary with all the benefits in mind.

Best Korea tourist cards for transportation, shopping, and e-money

1. t-money card.

T-Money Card is a must-have Korea tourist card

It’s a no-brainer. A T-Money Card should be the first thing that you should prepare before your Korea trip. It is the most popular Korea transport card with the largest number of affiliated partners. You can mainly use your T-Money Card to pay for public transportation like trains, buses, and taxis. Aside from that, you may also use it to pay at convenience stores, vending machines, and retail brands.

Read our T-Money Card guide for more information on the costs, where to buy, and benefits.

BUY T-MONEY CARD

Cashless payments are a thing in South Korea. In fact, many stores no longer accept cash payments. With the WOWPASS , you can use it as a prepaid debit card to pay for your purchases in Korea. Aside from that, it also serves as a Korea transport card so you can pay for public transportation including trains, buses, and taxis. You can top-up, withdraw, or exchange currencies at machines found in airports, subways, and even hotels.

This special Korea tourist card offers better exchange rates than banks, airports, or money changers, and accepts 16 currencies including USD, EUR, SGD, HKD, and even PHP. What’s even better is that it also offers brand cashback benefits, which is really great for tourists who love shopping and dining in Korea. You can check your balance, history, and benefits by downloading the WOWPASS mobile app .

3. NAMANE Card

NAMANE CARD

A NAMANE Card is a prepaid travel card in Korea you can use as payment for transport and offline purchases. But what sets this card apart from the rest is that it is customizable. This means you can design your own card, making it a cute souvenir item from Korea .

Another advantage of this Korea tourist card is that there is no authentication needed and no limit to who can use the card, so even minors can use it. You may download the NAMANE Card app to check your balance and transactions.

6. korea sim card.

Korea SIM Cards and T-Money Cards

South Korea is one of the countries with the fastest internet speed so you are assured that the data from their SIM cards are of top quality. If you are traveling solo or as a couple, we recommend that you get a SIM card since it’s handy and more efficient than getting another device like a pocket WiFi. You can even get an eSIM if you don’t want to insert another SIM card into your mobile phone.

There are various Korea SIM card options to choose from. You may read our Korea SIM card guide so you can compare the prices and advantages.

BUY KOREA eSIM

7. Korea Pocket WiFi

Korea Pocket WiFi

If you are traveling in groups, we suggest that you get a pocket WiFi instead since it can be shared with up to 5 devices. A pocket WiFi actually costs less than a SIM card, but there are also disadvantages to it like the battery life may only last for 7 to 9 hours, and you need to physically return the device before you fly back home.

You may read our Korea pocket WiFi guide so you can see the costs and benefits before making a decision.

RENT POCKET WIFI

These are some of the best Korea tourist cards, transportation cards, and travel items we wished we paid more attention to and actually bought when we went to Korea. So, if we were you, secure your Korea tourist card ahead and you’ll thank us later!
