Following on from the release of her collaborative album ‘Burn’ last year, alongside Dead Can Dance’s Jules Maxwell and James Chapman from MAPS, Lisa Gerrard has now joined forces with producer and composer Marcello De Francisci for the stunning new LP ‘Exaudia’.
Working alongside a team of other musicians including Bahar Shah, Astrid Williamson, Daniela Arbizzi, and Farhad Behroozi, ‘Exaudia’ looks to combine the broad and euphoric textures of De Francisci’s production with the warm and haunting vocals of Gerrard. Described as “a feminine embodiment of poetic expression”, the record plays majestically with this narrative, inviting a rich and vivid texture within each offering.
Explaining how the collaboration came about, Lisa said, “I met Marcello while I was composing for a film called Kings, he had wonderful engineering skills and I liked him as a person. After a while we decided to try composing together and went on to compose some film scores.
“This work was borne out of a desire to write something together during Covid, there is also the artistic desire to embrace the opportunity to unlock our unfulfilled visions. The album is very physical in its construction and sensibility, it is a deeply sensual work that enjoys a sense of empowered subtlety.”
Adding about the inspiration behind the record, Marcello De Francisci said, “ For quite some time I had been playing around with the idea of composing a brand new track to Lisa Gerrard’s vocals on “Diary for the Fallen”. I wanted a darker and more brooding version, which could be attributed to Hans Zimmer’s “Time” from the “Inception” soundtrack without plagiarising his work. I wondered what it would have sounded like if Lisa Gerrard had sung on something of this nature, in addition pushing the envelope even further by writing an aria towards the end of this piece including orchestra, choirs and percussion, which would result in one grand finale. It had to be something completely our own”.
“The operatic tics of Gerrard’s voice merge with Maxwell’s anthemic, cinematic music spectacularly…The euphoric, sometimes ambient Burn sounds like an enigmatic requiem” – MOJO Magazine
On 7th May 2021, Lisa Gerrard and Jules Maxwell release their album ‘Burn’, with Atlantic Curve, a London-based label created under the Schubert Music Europe umbrella. This collective effort was produced by James Chapman of Maps.
“Burn approaches us with an air of mystery, offering up tunes that are a chimera of exotic influences. Ambient electronica, folk music from around the world with a special emphasis on Middle Eastern sound, gothic operatics and joyously overwhelming orchestral moments are morphed and woven into each other to create the richly textured fabric of this album. A deep and almost spiritual aesthetic guides this album as they start to work notions of trance music into these tunes.
The duo use a multitude of cultural references as a starting point but seemingly synthesise these influences into something that sounds strangely new and somewhat alien. Burn creates a reflective space into which listeners can immerse themselves and mediate on the dreamiest of sounds.
Gerrard’s voice is as powerful and seductively ethereal as it ever was. In uncertain times this is reassuring for old school Dead Can Dance fans. Burn is as essential as anything else in Gerrard’s unique songbook.” – TheMusic.Com

Lisa Gerrard and Jules Maxwell to Release “One Night In Porto” Live Concert Album
- April 28, 2023
- Alice Teeple
For Lisa Gerrard and Jules Maxwell , re-creating Burn in concert was always going to be a challenge, but they have gloriously triumphed with their latest offering — a live album entitled One Night In Porto .
“One Night in Porto is a poignant record of the Burn shows we performed in Portugal last year, and it is with great pleasure that I share it,” says Gerrard. The glorious reimagining was recorded on Wednesday, 23rd November 2022, at the world-famous Casa Da Música in Porto, on what was the third concert of that tour. The album will be released via Atlantic Curve on 12th May 2023.
Maxwell and Gerrard’s creative partnership began during their time with Dead Can Dance, where they discovered a shared passion for improvisation. However, when they started writing songs for The Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices (Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares), their collaboration truly soared and marked a departure from their usual material…reaching new heights with the introduction of James Chapman (MAPS) as producer for Burn . Their focus was to create a sound that was euphoric and more inventive than what they had worked on separately in the past. Despite being scattered across the globe, with Lisa in Australia, Jules adding keys and percussion from France, and James bringing a new perspective from England, their disparate worlds fused together masterfully.
Through this creative process, a distinct sound began to emerge, showcasing the unique ideas generated by the trio’s free-flowing fusion. From gentle beginnings, each track on Burn builds and intensifies, creating a hypnotic experience from start to finish. The result is an album that presents a wonderfully diverse mix of electronica, alternative, cinematic soundscape and world music with hints of early Vangelis, Philip Glass, and Sigur Rós.
Instead of merely replicating the album live for One Night In Porto , the two decided to use its melodic themes and sonic textures as a springboard into something new. They spent four rainswept days rehearsing at a small theatre by the seaside in Espinho and then headed off around Portugal to perform the work.
Jules Maxwell takes his seat at a magnificent Steinway D grand piano, with Lisa Gerrard standing in silhouette, facing him directly as the show begins with the mysterious opening strains of “ Heleali (The Sea Will Rise).” As the track builds in intensity and eventually explodes into rhythm, Gerrard’s voice also begins to rise, her vocal performance absolutely stunning.
Maxwell’s muscular piano and unmistakable voice, together with additional instrumentation by James Chapman and David Kuckhermann, deliver a fresh and dynamic exploration of Burn’s seven songs. “ Noyalain (Burn)” retains its heartbreaking grandeur, evoking a call to the spirit of creation. The moment when the two voices duet tenderly together towards the end is a genuine revelation.
The live environment provides ample opportunity for Gerrard to playfully explore new ways to interpret the epic nature of the material. Songs such as “ Orion (The Weary Huntsman)” and “ Keson (Until My Strength Returns)” take considerable departures from the studio album, showcasing Gerrard’s willingness to experiment with her vocal techniques.
The album concludes with a poignant improvised epilogue entitled “ A Blessing,” starkly arranged for piano and voice and uniquely created for that November night in northern Portugal. Overall, the performance is a stunning showcase of the immense talents of Gerrard and Maxwell, as well as the creativity and musical ingenuity of their collaborators. The show leaves a lasting impression, offering a unique and unforgettable experience.
“It is an enormous privilege for me to share this stage with Lisa Gerrard,” says Jules Maxwell. “The original Burn studio album was constructed mostly in isolation, so it was an utter joy for me to finally get together with Lisa to perform it live. In concert, the music soars in a way I never imagined possible.”

Lisa Gerrard and Jules Maxwell will also perform one European concert in 2023 to celebrate the launch of One Night in Porto . This concert will occur at Teatr Wielki in Łódź, Poland, on 1st July 2023.

One Night in Porto will be available digitally on all the usual platforms on 12th May 2023.
The album will also be available on CD and in limited edition 180g (olive green) vinyl on 30th June 2023.

Lisa Gerrard & Jules Maxwell – One Night in Porto Review
What does Lisa Gerrard & Jules Maxwell sound like?
Ethereal and powerful wordless vocals against symphonic arrangements.
The review of Lisa Gerrard & Jules Maxwell – One Night in Porto
Having seen Lisa Gerrard live as part of Dead Can Dance, there is nothing else quite like it. Although sedentary, the entire experience was like going to musical church. I can imagine the audience had a similar experience when Lisa Gerrard and Jules Maxwell took their 2021 collaboration album ‘ Burn ‘ on tour. Born out of their love for improvisation, ‘Burn’ felt like an album that moved from a single flame flicker to an inferno across every track.
Recorded at Casa Da Música in Porto on the third night of the tour, both Jules and Lisa are in fine form. Jules provides some exquisite piano and also backing vocals at times for Lisa to command the room with her voice. As with the album, each song on this tour starts off quietly and then becomes a blaze. This allows the opening portions of songs to feel more intimate as it’s often Jules’ piano and Lisa’s voice opening each piece. Then the electronic and rhythm instruments join in and the songs move closer to their album form.
This means most songs are extended such as ‘Noyalain (Burn)’ which benefits from its more symphonic and gothic reworking. Opening track ‘Heleali (The Sea Will Rise)’ leans into its brooding side slightly more whilst ‘Deshta (Forever)’ becomes more of a duet vocally. Lisa’s voice is front and centre but Jules provides a mystical vocal airbrush that really works in this live context. James Chapman and David Kuckhermann provide additional instrumentation throughout. Although emulating the album, there are some subtle differences from the original recordings. For example, the beats from ‘Aldavyeem (A Time to Dance)’ sound far punchier with live drums than electronic ones.
The latter half of the concert sees Lisa Gerrard deviate from the recordings of tracks slightly more. ‘Orion’ and ‘Keson’ stand out as being reinterpreted slightly differently. That’s down to the more symphonic and synthetic arrangements of the instruments on ‘Orion’ and the baroque classical piano from Jules on ‘Keson’. After the climactic ‘Do So Yol’ which closes out the album tracks, Jules and Lisa close out the album with a beautiful improvisational piece titled ‘A Blessing’. The sole new track if you will, it borrows piano motifs from the track ‘Noyalain (Burn)’ but removes any electronics. Just Jules’ piano and Lisa’s voice – and the pair go fully into their expressive and dramatic playing. It’s the most dynamic and powerful performance on the recording and leaves you wanting more.
Whilst ‘One Night in Porto’ is definitely a live album for the fans, I was pleasantly surprised at how different the songs felt in their live setting. Having Jules Maxwell on piano and vocals added a virtuoso element to the music and a slightly different sound palette too. Lisa Gerrard’s performance is excellent too, using her power sparingly but effectively. A wonderful document of what sounded like a fabulous tour.
Recommended track: Noyalain (Burn)

The World of Hans Zimmer –
A new dimension.
Powerful. Beautiful. Dramatic. Breathtaking. Strong. Touching. This is the music of two-time Academy Award ® winner Hans Zimmer. In 2024, his successful show The World of Hans Zimmer will receive a new musical programme and thus advance to an international concert series at the same time. The new subtitle “A New Dimension” already hints at this: Hans Zimmer is arranging a brand-new selection from his tremendously diverse collection of scores for The World of Hans Zimmer – A New Dimension. The audience will be taken on a unique musical journey that will immerse them in completely new dimensions.
The concert tour’s precursor The World of Hans Zimmer – A Symphonic Celebration first wowed audiences in Germany in 2018 and has since been on a triumphal march around the world. Hans Zimmer himself will not appear live on stage in The World of Hans Zimmer – A New Dimension but will function as the show’s curator and musical director. He says: “My aspiration with this new show is to preserve the culture of the orchestra and allow audiences to rediscover the unique facets of orchestral music. There are many background stories I would love to tell and long-time companions and friends I would like to introduce.”
The magic of Hans Zimmer’s works will continue to conjure live for audiences in 2024, along with some of the world’s most outstanding and renowned soloists and a masterful symphony orchestra.
With The World of Hans Zimmer, the “Hollywood Rebel” (according to the BBC) has created a glamorous, lively, exciting live experience of a very special kind.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.
Know More about this tour
We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Moscow Metro
The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.
What is the kremlin in russia?
The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.
And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.
During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.
There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:
From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.
At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.
According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.
The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.
Coffee Ring
The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.
Zodiac Metro
According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.
Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.
Paleontological finds
Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!
- Every day each car in Moscow metro passes more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
- Moscow subway system is the 5th in the intensity of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic
The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.
The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.
The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.
The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.
For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.
