Event Details

McFly have announced that they will celebrate the band's 21 st birthday by playing two very special shows at The O2 on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 October 2024.

It’s been 21 years since McFly first formed, a journey which has taken them from their breakthrough hit ‘Five Colours In Her Hair’ to last year’s full-force rock album ‘Power To Play’. Along the way Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd have scored seven #1 singles, seven Top 10 albums, 10 million sales, a BRIT Award, sold-out countless arena shows and still remain the youngest band to ever have a debut album go straight to number 1, beating The Beatles.

Harry Judd says, “ It’s crazy to think that it has been 21 years since McFly was formed and we all moved into a house together! We don’t take it for granted that after all this time people still want to hear new music from us and come to see us play live. As a band we’re always looking forward at what’s next, but this show will be a fun opportunity to reflect on our career so far. And what better place to throw a 21st birthday party than at The O2!”

Now, they prepare to play all their hits and fan favourites from the past twenty-one years for a gig not to be missed by any McFly fans. News of The O2 show adds to McFly’s 2024 tour schedule which also includes big outdoor shows and select festival dates.

McFly have been one of the most successful bands of this age, and it's easy to understand why. Watching them live is one of the most interesting performances you will see in your life. My experience at one of their concerts consisted of mainly food talk, including them creating a theme tune for one of the burger vans at the stadium. Expect the unexpected! Even though they have released many albums, they are still amazingly talented, recently impressing everyone with one of their newer songs 'Love Is Easy.' Following the theme of love, check out the YouTube video of the wedding speech made by one of the boys, it is truly inspired and heart warming. It is set to one of their own songs 'All About You'. Some may say they have past their best, I think the exact opposite. Not only are the constantly improving their shows to make them even bigger and even better, they are still surprising fans. One the most recent excitements was the McBusted tour (a collaboration of McFly and Busted). Looking for a good McFly song to get you started? Try my original favourite 'Star Girl' or for something slightly less well known go for 'Broccoli.' Either way, you'll regret not listening to them. The only thing you'll regret more than that is not having tickets for their concert.

McFly Announces First U.S. Tour Dates

After years of waiting, American fans of the British pop/rock band McFly will finally get to see the band on stage in the U.S. On July 6, the group announced that it will play two intimate gigs at Los Angeles’ Roxy Theatre (Sept. 10) and New York City’s Gramercy Theatre (Sept. 13). (Editor’s note: the band has since added two more shows: in L.A. on Sept 7 and New York City on Sept. 14.)

“We just want to go over and do some small shows for the fans that we know we have there,” McFly’s co-lead singer and guitarist Tom Fletcher told Billboard.com in April. “We’ve been wanting to do that for years and years and years and years. But we’ve just never had the opportunity, or something else has come up.”

Though the group has been successful in their homeland, they’ve yet to cross the pond — so to speak. The act has claimed 17 top 10 singles and six top 20 albums on the Official U.K. charts since their debut in 2004. However, the band has never toured America, and only properly released one album: 2006’s “Just My Luck.”

“We have some fans in America that have been fans for like eight or nine years — right from the beginning — so much so that they fly over to see us in the U.K.,” said Fletcher. “It’s amazing that they are so dedicated. So I think we owe it to them to come over.”

McFly is currently at work on its sixth studio album, the follow-up to 2010’s “Above the Noise,” which spawned the act’s longest-charting U.K. single, “Shine a Light” (featuring Taio Cruz). It spent 16 weeks on the tally, peaking at No. 8.

'We take the music seriously, but not ourselves': McFly on 20 years together

Entertainment Reporter

mcfly first tour

McFly flew right to the top from the get-go, ITV News' Rishi Davda reports

Sat opposite Danny, Dougie, Harry and Tom, it is pretty obvious to see why they've had long, successful careers.

Firstly, you can feel their genuine love of music in every answer they give. Secondly, they are just nice guys - funny, friendly, and endearingly self-deprecating.

McFly first found fame in their teens as their single, 5 Colours in her Hair, went straight to No 1 back in 2004.

They become the youngest band to have a UK No 1 album, taking the crown off a little-known foursome called The Beatles.

Though Tom Fletcher says the memories have always been more important than the accolades.

"You dream about having No 1's and winning awards and selling out tours and stuff like that and it's obviously amazing to be in that position.

"When it starts to happen, you realise that you don't care as much about that stuff and it's more about the journey and having fun with you mates."

With 20 years under their belt now, McFly are preparing to release their seventh album, called Power to Play.

Drummer Harry Judd admits: "I think our early successes are why we still have a career now and that's amazing. It can be a bit of a hindrance because people think of McFly and they think of the early pop hits, which we're proud of.

"But sometimes it makes it harder to continue with new music as a band now."

On the flip side, because making music is something they adore, it has allowed the group to "strip away all the pressure and the expectation."

The boys have bought their own recording studio. An unassuming industrial unit, kitted out with all the latest technology to help album creation feel like a glorified jam session.

'McFly HQ' is a mini-museum too, memorabilia from two decades displayed on every wall.

Danny Jones believes that "this is the most fun we've had making an album, having this space and being able to just play as a band has been fun."

Danny Jones shows ITV News Entertainment Report Rishi Davda the McFly HQ loos

Things were non-stop in the 00s and the group only really took time later on to reflect on their wellbeing and how it had been impacted by being thrust into the spotlight.

This week, Lewis Capaldi has hit pause once again on his performance schedule to better take care of his physical and mental health.

Dougie Poynter sees it as beneficial that "social media wasn't a thing when we first broke."

"Whereas with Lewis, there's Twitter and Instagram and you can see people's responses to things you've literally just done."

Speaking about Lewis's break, Danny thinks "it's great that you can do that now".

"We've had our moments, but with the band you feel this protection, you get through it."

As with any new album release, there follows a tour and McFly are heading back on the road once again.

To the naked eye they are musicians, but Danny sees the band more as athletes when they're on stage.

"We look at ourselves more like sportsmen, there's a physio, we've got sports drinks going on, you've got to go for it.

"You know, it's like going out on the footy pitch."

Harry remembers how he used to "drink before I went up on stage, then you'd be hungover and wouldn't enjoy it as much."

That's not the case anymore - it's all about "getting to bed, getting up, staying fit and eating well."

Danny gives Rishi a sneak peek at the new album from the studio

As with an interview, it's nice to finish on something light-hearted. So, I ask McFly who would play them in a movie.

After six or seven minutes of back-and-forth, they eventually picked for each other.

Here you go: Tom Fletcher would be played by Harry Potter star Tom Felton while Harry Judd would be played by Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron.

Dougie Poynter would be embodied by a young Leonardo DiCaprio, and Danny Jones was awarded Elvis leading man, Austin Butler.

I think that's a movie that most people would want to watch.

Power to Play is out June 9 and the tour begins in October.

With their recent tour experiences reigniting their passion for performing live, McFly are ready to rock Alexandra Palace with their signature fast, fun, and fierce sound, showcasing their Power To Play .

Neil Young and Crazy Horse 2024 tour setlist: Every song they played at Phoenix concert

mcfly first tour

Neil Young brought Crazy Horse to Phoenix for the first since 2003, when the Greendale Tour played what we now call Arizona Financial Theatre.

Saturday’s show at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre was in support of "FU##IN’ UP," a new release that captures Young and Crazy Horse in all their ragged glory.

And they treated Phoenix to a show that put the spotlight on the staples that have made Young one of rock ‘n’ roll's most celebrated elder statesmen, setting the tone with an epic performance of “Cortez the Killer” that lasted roughly 15 minutes.

By the time they brought the concert to a cacophonous conclusion with the glorious racket of “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" and a one-song encore of "Danger Bird," Young and Crazy Horse had powered their way through such classics as “Cinnamon Girl,” “Don’t Cry No Tears” and “Powderfinger.”

Young also took a break from the distortion and his bandmates for a three-song unplugged mini-set, including “Comes a Time” and “Heart of Gold,” before the night was through.

First post: a history of online public messaging, from bbs to facebook, here's how messaging platforms have changed over the years..

Jeremy Reimer - Apr 29, 2024 11:30 am UTC

First post: A history of online public messaging

People have been leaving public messages since the first artists painted hunting scenes on cave walls. But it was the invention of electricity that forever changed the way we talked to each other. In 1844, the first message was sent via telegraph. Samuel Morse, who created the binary Morse Code decades before electronic computers were even possible, tapped out , “What hath God wrought?” It was a prophetic first post.

World War II accelerated the invention of digital computers, but they were primarily single-use machines, designed to calculate artillery firing tables or solve scientific problems. As computers got more powerful, the idea of time-sharing became attractive. Computers were expensive, and they spent most of their time idle, waiting for a user to enter keystrokes at a terminal. Time-sharing allowed many people to interact with a single computer at the same time.

Part 0: The Precambrian era of digital communication (1969–1979)

Soon after time-sharing was invented, people started sending messages to other users. But since every computer spoke its own unique machine language and had its own way of storing and retrieving data, none of these machines could talk to each other. The solution to this problem came out of the Pentagon’s Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), and was thus dubbed the “ARPANET.” When two different computers connected to each other through an “IMP” (Interface Message Processor, the first router) in 1969, it was a massive breakthrough .

The front panel of the first Internet router.

Now, instead of sending a message to a friend who was probably sitting next to you in the same computer lab, you could send it to someone in a different city. In 1971, Ray Tomlinson wrote the first inter-computer messaging program, SNDMSG. Because he had to differentiate between the receiver’s username and the name of the computer they were using, he needed a character that wouldn’t be part of either. He hit “SHIFT-P” on the Model 33 Teletype, got an @, and the rest was history . Email was born.

The two keystrokes that changed history.

The friendly orange glow

At around the same time, a self-contained computer network called PLATO was also changing the world. PLATO was an educational system that began in 1960 and was nearing its fourth iteration. It was responsible for many computer firsts, such as the first flat-screen plasma display, which launched in 1972 with PLATO IV. These touch-enabled, 512×512 graphical displays looked like they came from the future. And while it couldn’t talk to ARPANET, every PLATO user at every terminal could communicate with each other all over the world.

PLATO IV Terminal, ca. 1972–1974.

In 1971, PLATO was the home of the first “phishing” scam, when student Mark Rusted created a fake login screen that stole users’ passwords. (He was politely asked not to do it again.) Because of this, the next revision of PLATO added a special keystroke combination, SHIFT-STOP, that would guarantee that the user saw a real login screen. Years later, Microsoft would use the same idea for Windows NT with CTRL-ALT-DEL .

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

All the proof Taylor Swift is making first major change to Eras Tour

Welcome to "The Tortured Poets Department" (Eras Tour Version).

mcfly first tour

It looks like Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour is getting a brand new era, straight from the Tortured Poets Department .

Since the announcement of her new 11th studio album ( which dropped April 19 ), fans have been anxiously waiting to see if her worldwide, career-spanning tour would get a shakeup to accommodate the new music. While Swift is remaining mum, and a rep for the singer didn't respond to an EW request for comment, a new YouTube Short posted to Swift's account seems to provide all the clarity Swifties needed that a change is imminent.

In the video, which is part of Swift's #ForAFortnightChallenge tied to the album's first single, "Fortnight," the 14-time Grammy winner can be seen rehearsing for tour with her backup dancers. While some shots are obviously from the Folklore , Lover , and other existing "eras" of the show, several blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments have never been seen before.

In one, Swift, clad in workout gear, appears to be wearing the same boots seen in her "Fortnight" video . She's holding on to a banister that looks like it has the Tortured Poets Department emblem on it — the "P" and the "D" can just be made out.

taylor swift/youtube

Although the video is in grayscale, and therefore exact colors are impossible to identify for sure, several shots feature what looks like a new white-ish mic, which has never been seen before. The new era's color, of course, is also an off-white hue.

Perhaps the most interesting moment of the new clip, though, is one that features what looks like new choreography and costumes. Swift's backup dancers can be seen in top hats and dancing with canes, while she sings in the front middle of the group — choreography and props which have so far not been featured in the concert.

This is all speculative until the tour resumes in Paris, France, on May 9, of course, but if Swift is adding a whole new era, it would mark the first major change to the setlist since Swift began performing it last March.

Throughout the tour, she's made little swaps here or there: She added performances with some of the artists who opened for her like HAIM or Phoebe Bridgers, and she added "Long Live" to the Speak Now section when that re-recorded album released during tour. She also swapped out "Invisible String" for the "The 1" in the Folklore section after news of her split with Joe Alwyn broke.

But, nothing has majorly been added or subtracted from the show, which is already a whopping three-and-a-half hours long. Now, if anyone could pull off adding more runtime to Eras, it's the "Mastermind" herself, but it's more likely that some songs will be getting cut to make room for new material. Fans have theorized that the tracks that didn't make it into the VOD rental of the Eras Tour concert film — "The Archer," "Wildest Dreams," "Cardigan," and "Long Live" — could be first on the chopping block, but we'll just have to wait and see what Ms. Swift has up her cryptic and Machiavellian sleeve.

Tim Widing wins Veritex Bank Championship, breaks scoring records for back-to-back victories

Sweden native moves to verge of first PGA TOUR card

ARLINGTON, Texas – Morning thunderstorms delayed the start of Sunday’s final round by five hours, but they hardly deterred Tim Widing’s patience. By the end of the 10th hole, another Widing (pronounced VEE-ding) victory felt inevitable.

A second win in as many weeks would assuredly be his. The only unknowns were how low Widing would go, and which records the 26-year-old Swede would break as he pulled away from the field at the Veritex Bank Championship.

Even with two bogeys in the final round, Widing carded an 8-under 63 and totaled 31-under 253 for a four-stroke victory. Widing birdied three of the final four holes Sunday, including a record-breaking birdie at the par-5 18th which broke the Korn Ferry Tour record for the lowest 72-hole score relative to par.

Widing’s total score of 253 marked the second-lowest 72-hole score in Korn Ferry Tour history, only behind Stephan Jaeger’s 30-under 250 from the 2016 Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae.

Widing, who won last week’s LECOM Suncoast Classic, became the 13th player (14th occurrence) in Korn Ferry Tour history to win back-to-back events, with the most recent being Chan Kim last August. Widing also became the 12th player in Tour history to win twice in the first nine events of a Korn Ferry Tour season, with the most recent being Ben Kohles, who accomplished the feat last season en roue to a No. 1 finish on the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour Points List.

“Monday night I was still just trying to soak in what I just did last week,” Widing said. “Of course I want to run it back and win again, but I was just still over the moon from my win last week. I told the guys yesterday I was just playing better, relaxed, and having a lot of fun out there on the course, and I think that helped a lot with the nerves, especially today.”

Widing carried a two-stroke lead into the final round and battled windy conditions Sunday afternoon en route to a 3-under 32 on the front nine. Hardly anyone remained within striking distance of Widing by that point, and an eagle at the par-5 10th effectively set up a drama-free back nine.

“After nine holes, both Frankie (Capan III) and Trent (Phillips) played amazing golf, and that kept me very focused on my own game,” Widing said, noting his eagle at the par-5 10th felt like a critical moment in the round. “To see it go in was a big relief. I think that was probably the turning point today to just keep going.”

As it turned out, neither of Widing’s playing partners in the final group was his closest competitor. That honor went to Canadian Myles Creighton, who made a birdie of his own on No. 18 for his 32nd birdie of the week, which would have been a new Korn Ferry Tour record had Widing not upstaged him with 33 birdies.

Creighton made some history, though. At 27-under 257, Creighton recorded the lowest 72-hole score relative to par by a runner-up in Korn Ferry Tour history, in addition to tying Rhein Gibson’s 23-under 257 from the 2016 Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae as the lowest 72-hole score by a runner-up in Tour history.

While Widing attempted yet again to soak in a career-changing victory, everyone around him recognized the significance of the moment. It was hardly about the records, even as his peers were awestruck by the final tally. It was instead about what lie ahead for Widing.

Since 2007, when the Korn Ferry Tour first awarded at least 25 PGA TOUR cards, every multi-time winner went on to earn a TOUR card at season’s end

“My mindset is still… this is our ninth event of the year, so there’s still many more to go,” Widing said. “(The) PGA TOUR has always been a dream since I started playing golf. We’re not there yet, so I’m still trying to play good this year and still work on the things me and my team have been doing over the last couple months. It’s easy to kind of look ahead, but I’m just trying to be here right now and enjoy this moment, see wherever it takes me.”

A promotion to the PGA TOUR could come even sooner for Widing via the Three-Victory Promotion. In three weeks, Widing will head to Kansas City for the AdventHealth Championship, where he will take his first attempt at becoming the 12th player in Tour history to earn the Three-Victory Promotion.

For the time being, however, it could not be further from his mind.

“Even after last week, I really wanted to just go home and soak it in with friends,” Widing said. “Probably going to be playing a lot of hockey. I’m really looking forward to that.

“Just take a few days off and really, again, process what just happened, and enjoy it.

Final-Round Notes

AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event Sunday, beating Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer with a par on the first hole of a playoff.

Trainer pushed a 6-foot par putt to the right of the cup to end it, with Lowry and McIlroy sharing a smiling embrace on the green.

The 34-year-old McIlroy, playing in the event for the first time, won his 25th PGA Tour title and first of the season. Lowry claimed his third PGA Tour victory. The Irish tandem closed with a 4-under 68 in the alternate-shot final round to match Ramey and Trainer at 25-under 263.

Ramey and Trainer began the day tied for 27th and shot to the top of the leaderboard with nine birdies between the seventh and 18th holes. They tied the alternate-shot tournament record of 63, but then had to wait nearly three hours to see if their lead would stand up.

They struggled to execute on the playoff hole. Trainer pulled his drive into the left rough, Ramey also yanked his approach left off the cart path and into the wall below the suites around the 18th green. Trainer then chipped short before Ramey finally got onto the green.

Ryan Brehm and Mark Hubbard missed the playoff by one shot when Brehm’s birdie putt from the fringe narrowly missed to the right. Former BYU teammates Patrick Fishburn and Zach Blair, the 54-hole leaders, were tied for the lead until failing to birdie the par-5 16th and taking double bogey on the par-3 17th.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hannah Green closed with a 5-under 66 and won the LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship for the second straight year, holing out twice from off the greens in a pivotal back-nine stretch at Wilshire Country Club.

A year after making a 25-foot birdie on the final hole of regulation and winning on the second hole of a playoff, Green took the drama out of this one for her fifth LPGA Tour victory and second of the year.

Green began the key run with a chip-in birdie on the par-3 12th and made a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-5 13th. Then, after Stark bogeyed the par-4 16th two groups ahead, Green ran in a 25-footer for eagle from the fringe on 15 to open a four-stroke lead, and she made it 5 under in five holes with a birdie on 16.

Stark birdied her last two holes for a 68. The 24-year-old Swede also finished second last week outside Houston in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda in the first major of the year.

Grace Kim, four strokes ahead entering the weekend, closed 76-77 without making a birdie the last two days. She tied for 25th.

LIV GOLF LEAGUE

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Brendan Steele closed with a 4-under 68 to hold off Louis Oosthuizen and win LIV Golf Adelaide by one shot at The Grange Golf Club.

The 41-year-old Steele finished with a 54-hole total of 18-under 198 for his first victory since he won his second Safeway Open in 2017 on the PGA Tour.

Steele had a streak of five consecutive birdies early in the round, before some putting jitters appeared in his back nine to open the door for a fast finishing pack of challenges including Oosthuizen (65) and former previous Masters champions Charl Schwartzel (64) and Jon Rahm (64).

Schwartzel and Rahm were among a group of five players at 16-under 200, with Joaquin Niemann (66), Andy Ogletree (65) and Dean Burmester (67) in a tie for third.

Defending champion Talor Gooch shot 70 and finished in a tie for 26th at 10-under.

Australia-based Ripper won the team title on the second playoff hole against South African-based Stingers.

EUROPEAN TOUR AND JAPAN GOLF TOUR

GOTEMBA, Japan (AP) — Yuto Katsuragawa began the back nine with five birdies in seven holes that carried him to a 7-under 63 and a three-shot victory in the ISPS Handa Championship, the third Japanese player this year to claim a European tour title.

The tournament was co-sanctioned with the Japan Golf Tour. Katsuragawa follows Rikuya Hoshino at the Commercial Qatar Masters and Keita Nakajima in the Hero Indian Open for Japanese winners. A year ago, Ryo Hisatsune won the French Open.

Katsuragawa started the final round three shots out of the lead, but got into the mix when 54-hole leader Casey Jarvis and Yannik Paul faltered on the front nine. The 25-year-old pulled away and won by three over Sebastian Soderberg, who had a 67.

Jarvis closed with a 74 to tie for 18th. Paul, who started one shot behind, shot 76. It was a missed opportunity for Paul, in the mix for the second and final spot for Germany in the Olympics.

PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS

DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — Stephen Ames celebrated his 60th birthday with a successful title defense in the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, closing with a 5-under 67 for his eighth PGA Tour Champions victory.

A stroke behind Paul Broadhurst after matching the tournament record Saturday with a 64, Ames had two eagles in the final round. He won by four strokes, finishing at 14-under 202 at TPC Sugarloaf for his record third victory in the event.

Broadhurst, the 58-year-old Englishman coming off a victory last week in the Invited Celebrity Classic, closed with a 72 to tie for second with Doug Barron (69). K.J. Choi (70) and Steven Alker (71) were 9 under.

Ames became the first multiple winner this year on the tour, also taking the Chubb Classic in February. He has six victories in his last 29 starts after winning twice in his first 175 — the first at TPC Sugarloaf in 2017 — on the 50-and-over tour.

KORN FERRY TOUR

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Tim Widing of Sweden won for the second straight week on the Korn Ferry Tour, closing with an 8-under 63 to cap off a week of low scoring with a four-shot victory in the Veritex Bank Championship.

The week began with Frankie Capan III posting a 58 for the third sub-60 round on the Korn Ferry Tour this year. It ended with Widing’s worst score of the week a 65 on Saturday.

He finished at 31-under 253 to boost his position atop the Korn Ferry Tour points list as he closes in on a PGA Tour card.

Myles Creighton of Canada closed with a 62 to finish second, followed by Trent Phillips (65). Capan wound up seven shots behind in fourth place. None of the Korn Ferry Tour players who broke 60 this year have gone on to win.
