Michelle Obama announces six-city book tour for 'The Light We Carry'
Michelle Obama plans a six-city tour this fall in support of her new book , “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times,” beginning mid-November in Washington. D.C. and ending a month later in Los Angeles.
“I’m looking forward to making some new connections — and of course, seeing some familiar faces from the last tour,” the former first lady said in a joint statement Wednesday released through her publisher, Crown, and tour promoter Live Nation.
“This book means so much to me — it’s a collection of perspectives and practices I’ve used to keep me afloat amid uncertainty. On this tour, I’ll be sharing some personal stories and lessons that have helped me along my path, and I can’t wait to tell you more.”
Obama will open at the Warner Theatre in Washington on Nov. 15, the publication date for her book. She will then travel to Philadelphia’s The Met, Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, the Chicago Theatre and San Francisco’s Masonic, before closing at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
The venues have seating capacities ranging roughly from 2,000-6,500. The settings are far bigger than for most book events, but smaller than Obama’s stops on the first leg of her tour for the 2018 memoir “Becoming,” when she appeared at the United Center in Chicago and other arenas holding 15,000 or more.
“ Becoming ” was a near-instant million seller and went on to sell more than 17 million copies worldwide, making it the most popular book in modern times written by a former White House resident.
As with “Becoming,” Obama will speak at each city with guest moderators, to be announced later. Oprah Winfrey, Tracee Ellis Ross and Sarah Jessica Parker were among those who joined her for “Becoming.” In partnership with Live Nation, Obama will also set aside tickets at each venue for a select number of community members.

Michelle Obama announces six-city tour for ‘The Light We Carry’
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
Following a record-breaking book tour for “Becoming,” the former first lady announced U.S. dates in promotion of her highly anticipated November release.
Michelle Obama ’s memoir, “Becoming,” was an instant No. 1 New York Times bestseller and became one of the bestselling memoirs of all time after it was released in 2018, accompanied as it was by a sold-out world tour by the former first lady and a star-studded roster of hosts. It was also well-timed for holiday gifting, debuting in mid-November of that year.
This year, Random House imprint Crown, in partnership with live event juggernaut Live Nation, is attempting to re-harness that “Forever First Lady” magic. Fittingly, Nov. 15 will mark the release date of Mrs. Obama’s highly anticipated follow-up, “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times,” along with the launch of a six-city tour.
“I am so excited to share that I will be heading across the country soon to talk with you all about my new book, ‘The Light We Carry,’” said Mrs. Obama in a statement. “I’m looking forward to making some new connections — and of course, seeing some familiar faces from the last tour.”
As described in the advance press for Mrs. Obama’s sophomore effort:
In The Light We Carry , she opens a frank and honest dialogue with readers, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much? Source: Penguin Random House/ MichelleObamaBooks.com
“This book means so much to me — it’s a collection of perspectives and practices I’ve used to keep me afloat amid uncertainty,” said Mrs. Obama. “On this tour, I’ll be sharing some personal stories and lessons that have helped me along my path, and I can’t wait to tell you more.”
Kicking off the tour on the book’s release day at Washington’s Warner Theatre, Mrs. Obama will also make stops in Philadelphia, Atlanta, her native Chicago and San Francisco before wrapping up the inaugural leg of the tour on Dec. 13 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
According to a press release, to accommodate accessibility, those desiring to attend the tour can register for presale on Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan platform now through Sept. 26.
The release also noted: “Verified Fans who receive a code will have access to purchase tickets before the general public on Wednesday, September 28, at 10:00 AM local time. Only fans that have received a unique code will have the chance to purchase tickets on a first come, first served basis. All tickets will be made available during the Verified Fan presale.” All remaining tickets will be sold to the general public beginning Friday, September 30, at 10:00 a.m. local time.
Mrs. Obama will also be releasing a select number of tickets to community members on each tour stop. Details will be forthcoming.
The 2022 dates for “The Light We Carry: In Conversation with Michelle Obama” are as follows:
Tuesday, Nov.15 – Washington, Warner Theatre
Friday, Nov. 18 – Philadelphia, The Met
Saturday, Dec. 3 – Atlanta, Fox Theatre
Monday, Dec. 5 – Chicago, Chicago Theatre
Saturday, Dec. 10 – San Francisco, Masonic
Tuesday, Dec. 13 – Los Angeles, YouTube Theater

Our Forever FLOTUS Michelle Obama Is Going On A Book Tour—Here's How You Can Attend
In 2018, former first lady Michelle Obama broke countless records with her debut memoir Becoming . Now, it looks like she’s poised to do it all over again.
In a news release shared with ESSENCE, Live Nation and Crown, an imprint of Random House, announced new dates to Mrs. Obama’s upcoming U.S. book tour in support of The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times.
Kicking off in Washington, D.C. on November 15th through Thursday, November 17th, the tour will be riddled with star moderators including Ellen DeGeneres (11/15-11/17), Elizabeth Alexander, Gayle King (11/18), Hoda Kotb (11/19), Tyler Perry (12/2 + 12/3), David Letterman (12/5), Heather McGhee (12/6), Conan O’Brien (12/9), Tracee Ellis Ross (12/10), Michele Norris (12/11), and Oprah Winfrey (12/13).
“For me, The Light We Carry book tour will be about starting important conversations and digging deeper into the questions that all of us are grappling with as we live through uncertain times,” Mrs. Obama said in a statement. “I can’t wait to get back on the road and dive into it with such a thoughtful, impressive group of moderators.”
The book The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times will be available on November 15th, which features her “practical wisdom and powerful strategies for staying hopeful and balanced in today’s highly uncertain world.”
This comes on the heels of her highly successful debut, Becoming, which was the highest-selling memoir of all time. Back in 2020, two years after it was published, Bloomberg reported that nearly 10 million copies had been sold, bringing its publisher Penguin Random House $20 billion in revenue. As of July 2022, the total number of copies sold sits at 17 million.

NEW YORK (AP) — Michelle Obama plans a six-city tour this fall in support of her new book , “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times,” beginning mid-November in Washington. D.C. and ending a month later in Los Angeles.
“Becoming” was a near-instant million seller and went on to sell more than 17 million copies worldwide, making it the most popular book in modern times written by a former White House resident.
Fans can begin registering from Wednesday through Sept. 26 through Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan Platform, https://verifiedfan.ticketmaster.com/michelleobama . Any unsold tickets will be available to the general public starting Sept. 30.

Michelle Obama pays visit to Salt Lake bookshop on 'secret mission'

SALT LAKE CITY — Former first lady and three-time author Michelle Obama paid a recent surprise visit to the Beehive State to promote her most recent work, "The Light We Carry."
Obama posted about her "secret mission" Tuesday after she visited The Kings English Bookshop to sign copies of her book on the shelves.
The book is a follow-up to her widely successful memoir, "Becoming," which covered everything from her early childhood, to meeting former President Barack Obama and completing their second term at the White House.
In her new book, she tells new stories and shares "practical wisdom and powerful strategies for staying hopeful," according to her website.
Obama was in Utah Thursday to speak at a Qualtrics summit , held at the Salt Palace Convention Center. Her words at the conference were off-record at her request and were not recorded.
In a video of her bookstore visit she's first seen in the back of an SUV in a "disguise" of a black baseball cap and large black glasses. She proceeds to the store, where the camera watches her sign paperback copies of the book, and flip through some others.
"This is my good friend Michelle Norris' book," she said, picking up a copy of "Our Hidden Conversations: What Americans Really Think About Race and Identity."
Michelle Obama's post also showed her interacting with the employees of the store, admiring a robe on display and a photo of her husband on the wall.
By the end of the video, she'd picked up a few books and was on her way.
The bookshop, after a difficult period of recovering from pandemic-restricted sales, and a bomb threat in Sept. 2023 , expressed its honor and appreciation for her visit in a comment.
"Thank you so much for visiting us!" the bookshop stated. "We are honored and so appreciate your incredible support of bookshops and literacy."

PGA Tour returning to calendar-year season in 2024, per reports: Winners and losers of the schedule
The PGA Tour schedule will see many changes in 2024, including a return to a calendar-year season and an increase in no-cut events, according to Golfweek . Here’s what you need to know:
- The tour will return to a calendar-year season for the first time in a decade after it transitioned to a wraparound schedule in 2013 that started a new season each fall, per Golfweek.
- The 2024 calendar will reportedly feature 39 regular-season events and eight events in the post-playoff fall series.
- The Players Championship, the Genesis Invitational, the Memorial Tournament and the Arnold Palmer Invitational will reportedly be the only designated tour events to feature a 36-hole cut.
Notable tournament dates and changes
The season will open with the Sentry Tournament of Champions on Jan. 4, 2024, and finish at the Tour Championship on Sept. 1.
The Memorial Tournament will be held one week before the U.S. Open (June 13-16) instead of the typical two weeks before the major. Additionally, the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx Cup Playoffs will each be pushed back by one week because of the Paris Olympics, reports Golfweek.
The tour will reportedly have no halfway cuts at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the RBC Heritage, the Wells Fargo Championship and the Travelers Championship in 2024.
Who wins in this schedule?
The clear winner is AT&T, which sponsored two non-designated events in 2023 but ended its deal with the Byron Nelson. Now it has one event, but Pebble Beach will be a designated event in 2024. That makes total sense — Pebble is one of the premier golf courses in the United States, and for it to have a field strength the same as the John Deere Classic (per DataGolf.com’s measure) made absolutely zero sense. Now it’ll have the best players, and one of the PGA Tour ’s top sponsors is no doubt happier.
Keep that last part in mind with all of this — the tour asked sponsors for more and more when it was seeking to increase purses and fight off the LIV threat, but it cannot make everyone happy. The tour is going to have to move around who gets designated events, in order to keep sponsors in the boat. — Kellenberger
Who loses in this schedule?
The WM Phoenix Open loses its designated event status, which stinks. But with its stadium hole and unique scheduling (Super Bowl weekend, with the final round leading up to kickoff), it may be the rare non-major that has enough else going for it to lose some field strength. We’ll see.
Moving the Memorial Tournament to the week before the U.S. Open is of note, and I’m interested to hear what Jack Nicklaus has to say about that.
But it’s also the first of three “must-play” events in a row (Travelers Championship is the week after the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, and also designated). What that stretch does is squeeze out the events before and after it, the Canadian Open and Rocket Mortgage Classic. They’ll have a harder time attracting top names that are not there out of sponsor obligations. — Kellenberger

Rating: 4 out of 5 Truly dismal moderator by Marelcase on 2023-10-23 Scotiabank Centre - Halifax. Michelle Obama was exceptional despite the moderator.
