Want to get a Morocco SIM card for your upcoming trip?

In this guide, we’ll explain where to buy a SIM card in Morocco in person and online.

We’ll also discuss prepaid SIM cards for Morocco and eSIM plans.

Before you read this guide, you may wonder if you actually need a SIM card in Morocco.

If you don’t mind not having Internet, you’ll likely find free Wifi in restaurants, shopping malls, and hotels.

That said, if you need data to get around, call a cab, or translate Arabic or French – you may want to get a SIM card for your travels in Morocco .

Psst. Want a Moroccan SIM card fast? Order one on SimOptions .

Morocco, Africa

Best Morocco SIM Cards

If you’re traveling in Morocco, we recommend using a Moroccan SIM card from Inwi, Orange, Maroc Telecom, or Airalo .

I’ll get back to Airalo eSIMs later on, so keep reading to learn more!

That said, if you’re planning on visiting other countries during your trip to Africa, you might want to pick an option that offers coverage in other African countries.

How To Buy A SIM Card In Morocco

You can buy a Morocco prepaid SIM card in person in some international airports, mobile provider stores, convenience stores, or online.

Usually, you can expect higher costs and low data offers at the airport, so we don’t recommend buying a SIM card at the airport.

That said, you won’t necessarily find SIM card shops in every airport, so it’s essential to remember this. And, when you see a shop, you might also have limited options.

For this reason, I’d recommend buying a SIM card directly from the mobile provider store. Note that you may need your passport to buy one.

Although, this means you won’t get data right upon your arrival. So, if you prefer to be connected at all times, you could use an eSIM or purchase an Africa prepaid SIM card online.

Now, let’s look at the prepaid data plans offered by Inwi, Orange, and Maroc Telecom. You’ll find out exactly how much is a SIM card in Morocco.

Desert, Morocco

Inwi SIM Cards

Inwi offers several different types of data plans so that you can easily access the Internet in Morocco:

  • 1 GB, valid for 7 days for MAD 10 ($0.92)

  • 3 GB, valid for 14 days for MAD 30 ($2.75)
  • 5 GB, valid for 30 days for MAD 50 ($4.59)
  • 10 GB, valid for 30 days for MAD 100 ($9.17)
  • 20 GB, valid for 30 days for MAD 200 ($18.35)

Orange SIM Cards

Orange has several different prepaid plans available in Morocco:

  • 2 GB, valid for 30 days for MAD 49 ($4.50)
  • 20 GB, valid for 30 days for MAD 99 ($9.08)
  • 30 GB, valid for 30 days for MAD 149 ($13.67)
  • 40 GB, valid for 30 days for MAD 199 ($18.26)

Maroc Telecom SIM Cards

Maroc Telecom offers several main SIM-only plans for tourists in Morocco:

  • 3 GB, valid for 30 days for MAD 59 ($5.41)
  • 14 GB, valid for 30 days for MAD 99 ($9.08)

Overall, we think Orange is the best option if you plan to buy your Moroccan SIM card in person.

That said, any would do if you can’t find their store!

How To Buy A Morocco Prepaid SIM Card Online

If you wish to have your SIM card ready for your arrival, you could purchase one online or on websites like Amazon.

You’ll find different Moroccan SIM cards on Amazon. For example, the Orange Holiday worldwide SIM works in over 90 countries and gives you up to 10 GB of data. Morocco is included.

But there are many other SIM cards worth considering, so have a look and make sure the countries you plan on visiting are listed.

Best Tourist Sim Cards in Morocco in 2024

morocco travel sim

If you plan to visit Morocco, having a sim card is essential for easy navigation and connectivity. Access to the internet while traveling allows you to easily explore new cities, find the best restaurants, locate your accommodation, book a taxi, and share photos with your family.

While roaming is an option, the international fees can quickly add up. Therefore, we recommend either an eSIM or a local sim card to enjoy local phone rates. Thankfully, obtaining an eSIM or local sim card in Morocco is a straightforward process.

This guide provides comprehensive information on purchasing a sim card in Morocco, including current pricing and the most suitable sim card option for you.

Table of Contents

Best sim card in morocco for tourists.

The best sim card in Morocco is the 49DH Max internet plan offered by Inwi. This plan includes 11GB of internet, 1 hour of national calls and unlimited Whatsapp.

Inwi also has very wide mobile coverage throughout Morocco. It is better than Orange and almost as extensive as Maroc Telecom. At this price point, it is the perfect sim card for anyone visiting Morocco.

Airalo also offers an eSim in Morocco, however, the price is almost extortionate when compared to the price of the local sim cards so I can’t recommend it unless you really want the convenience of an eSim.

Morocco Sim Card Prices

A Tourist Sim Card in Morocco costs 49DH in April 2024, however, the exact price will often depend on the store you visit and the plan you choose.

Alternatively, an eSim in Morocco will cost $9.50 USD. This, again, depends on how much data you require and which eSim provider you choose.

I generally recommend this Airalo plan for most tourists visiting Morocco which includes 1GB of data which is valid for 7 days and costs $9.50 USD.

How to Get a Sim Card in Morocco

Identify mobile providers: Maroc Telecom, Orange Morocco and Inwi are your best options in Morocco.

Find your nearest store: Locate a store or retailer by searching on Google Maps for your nearest store or asking at your hotel reception. I’ve never had issues finding a store as they can usually be found in major cities, shopping centers, or tourist areas. If possible, I always recommend to to avoid airports and head in to an official store in the city.

Bring the necessary documents: It is always a good idea to carry your passport or identification documents for sim card registration purposes. We’ve found most providers will need to confirm your identity to provide a sim card and it can be a major hassle to head to a store only to have to come back again later with your passport.

Choose your plan: Either request the plan you are after or consult with the staff in the store to select the right plan for you. My recommendations at the beginning of this guide are a good starting point, but the staff will usually be able to suggest the best option.

Pay and activate your card: Pay for the SIM card and plan, and the staff will activate it for you.

Test: It’s always a good idea to check that you can access the internet before you leave the store. I always search for something on Google then refresh my Instagram feed to check it’s working fine.

Where to Get a Sim Card in Morocco

At the airport.

Buying a prepaid sim card for Morocco at the airport is usually considered the most convenient option for travellers arriving by plane.

However, airport stores selling sim cards are almost guaranteed to charge inflated prices, so if you are a cost-conscious traveller then you should definitely buy your sim card from a store in the city center.

In addition to this, we would argue that buying physical sim cards at all aren’t particularly convenient now that most people use esim compatible phones. If you are looking for the most convenient option, then buying an esim before you arrive or with the airport wifi is much easier and will save you having to queue up or communicate with staff.

If you must purchase a sim card at the airport in Morocco then you will be in luck. All major international airports in Morocco have stores selling sim cards. Despite the prices being higher than normal, the staff are knowledgable and will be able to get you set up with the correct sim card relatively quickly.

If you want to avoid the inflated sim card prices you’ll find at the airport and your phone isn’t esim compatible, then you’re going to need to head in to a store to buy your sim card.

I recommend visiting one of the official retail stores of the mobile internet operators such as Maroc Telecom, Orange Morocco and Inwi. Your best option is to enter their names into Google Maps and find the branch closest to your hotel or accommodation. Typically the staff in the official stores in Morocco are knowledgable and helpful which means you can ensure you’ll walk away with a functioning sim card.

Despite this, it’s always a good idea to check your internet is working before you leave the store by loading a Google search results page and your preferred social media app. You should also ensure you always bring your passport with you when purchasing a sim card in case they need to register it.

If you like to be prepared and would prefer to arrive in Morocco with your sim card all sorted and your phone ready to connect to the internet immediately then you should look into purchasing a sim card online.

The first option is to buy your sim card in advance via SimOptions, which is a company that will prepare and ship a sim card directly to your door. It’s a reliable and effective service, but with the invention of eSims it’s becoming obsolete.

The better option is to purchase an eSim online. We’ve written more on that below!

Morocco eSim

An eSim is a digital version of a traditional sim card and is most likely the future of connectivity for mobile devices. The convenience of no longer visiting a store, handing over your passport and purchasing a physical sim card is quickly making physical sim cards obsolete in favour of eSims.

We recommend Airalo’s eSim when travelling to Morocco. The Airalo Morocco eSim offers fast internet speeds, wide coverage and extremely competitive prices making it a far more compelling option than purchasing a physical sim card from any of the local sim card providers.

In order to get set up with an Airalo eSim , all you need to do is visit Airalo here and purchase the eSim online (the $9.50 USD plan is suitable for most travellers). Once you’ve purchased the sim card Airalo will email you instructions and a QR code. Following these instructions should take just a couple of minutes, then you’ll have a sim card in Morocco without having to venture outside.

Airalo Morocco

Our preferred eSim provider in Morocco is Airalo . We used them, alongside a local sim card on another device, for our most recent trip to Morocco and found the service to be equal to the local sim card but without the hassle of acquiring a sim card in a store.

Airalo’s Morocco eSim uses the Maroc Telecom network to provide data and connect users to the internet. You can expect very good coverage and reliability with the Maroc Telecom networknetwork as they are amongst the best mobile internet operators in Morocco.

Here are the plans and prices for Airalo’s Morocco eSim:

1GB data valid for 7 days – Price: $9.50 USD

For most travellers we recommend the 1GB data plan for $9.50 USD which is valid for 7 days. Some travellers may prefer a larger plan, whilst travellers visiting for just a couple of days may be fine with a smaller plan.

Holafly Morocco

An alternative eSim provider we can recommend is Holafly.

Holafly’s eSim is a suitable option for travellers who require large amounts of data, such as digital nomads and people who work online while they travel. All of Holafly’s Morocco eSims offer unlimited data.

Holafly’s Morocco eSim uses the Orange Morocco / Wana Marocnetwork to provide data and connect users to the internet. This network will provide reliable speeds and coverage while in Morocco

Here are the plans and prices for Holafly’s Morocco eSim:

2.5GB data valid for 5 days – Price: $27 USD 3.5GB data valid for 7 days – Price: $34 USD 5GB data valid for 10 days – Price: $37 USD 7.5GB data valid for 15 days – Price: $47 USD

What is an eSim?

The eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a digital SIM card built directly into devices like smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. Unlike physical SIM cards, there is no need to physically insert or remove an eSIM from the device.

Instead, the eSIM is seamlessly integrated into the device’s hardware and can be remotely activated and programmed by a mobile network operator. This allows users to easily switch between different mobile networks or plans without the hassle of physically exchanging SIM cards.

The convenience, flexibility, and ease of use offered by eSIM technology are particularly beneficial for travelers or individuals who frequently switch between mobile networks or travel internationally. It eliminates the need to purchase and insert physical SIM cards, simplifying the management of multiple mobile connections on a single device.

To activate an eSIM, users can either scan a provided QR code or manually enter the activation details provided by their mobile network operator. Once activated, the device can connect to the chosen mobile network and access voice, data, and messaging services just like with a traditional SIM card.

Why Use an eSim?

There are several reasons why using an eSIM can be beneficial. First, it offers convenience by eliminating the need for physically inserting or removing a SIM card when switching networks or plans. This is particularly useful for frequent travelers who need to switch networks or use local SIM cards in different countries.

Second, eSIM allows for dual SIM functionality, meaning you can have two active mobile numbers on the same device. This can be helpful for separating personal and work numbers or managing multiple phone lines.

Third, eSIMs save space as they are embedded within the device, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card slot. This enables manufacturers to make devices smaller or utilize the extra space for other components.

Fourth, eSIMs enable remote provisioning, allowing for activation and management of mobile plans over the air. This eliminates the need for a physical SIM card or visiting a store, providing greater flexibility and convenience in managing your mobile connectivity.

Lastly, using an eSIM-compatible device ensures future-proofing as more mobile networks and service providers offer support for eSIMs. This allows you to take advantage of new services and offerings as they become available.

Overall, eSIM technology offers flexibility, convenience, and future-proofing for mobile connectivity, making it an attractive choice for many users.

eSim Supported Phones

eSIM technology is becoming increasingly popular and is supported by a growing number of smartphones and other devices. Here are some examples of eSIM-compatible phones:

Apple iPhone series (iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, etc.): Apple was one of the early adopters of eSIM technology and offers support for eSIM on various iPhone models.

Google Pixel series (Pixel 3, Pixel 4, Pixel 5, etc.): Google’s Pixel smartphones also support eSIM functionality, allowing users to activate and use eSIMs.

Samsung Galaxy series (Galaxy S22, Galaxy Note 20, etc.): Many of Samsung’s flagship devices now come with eSIM support, enabling users to utilize eSIM technology.

OnePlus devices (OnePlus 7, OnePlus 8, etc.): OnePlus has included eSIM support in some of its smartphone models, offering users the flexibility of using eSIMs.

Motorola Razr (2020): The latest iteration of the iconic Motorola Razr features eSIM compatibility, enabling users to use eSIMs for cellular connectivity.

These are just a few examples, and the list of eSIM-compatible phones continues to expand as more manufacturers embrace this technology. There’s a very strong chance your phone supports eSims so if you’re unsure we recommend looking it up on our list of eSim supported phones .

How to Use an eSim

Using an eSim is new for many travellers, however, the good news is it’s surprisingly easy to get set up – even for the technologically challenged!

Here’s a general guide on how to use an eSIM:

Check eSIM Compatibility: Ensure that your device supports eSIM functionality. Many newer smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and other devices are eSIM compatible including all iPhones produced since 2018.

Obtain an eSIM: There are multiple ways to acquire an eSIM. You can purchase an eSIM online from a provider like Airalo (which we recommend) or directly from a mobile network operator. Some devices also allow you to scan a QR code provided by your carrier to download the eSIM profile.

Activate the eSIM: Your eSim provider will send you instructions to activate the sim. This will usually involve scanning a QR code, entering an activation code, or downloading the eSIM profile directly onto your device.

Set up the eSIM: Once activated, your device will guide you through the eSIM setup process. This typically involves selecting the eSIM as your preferred mobile plan, configuring settings like data roaming, and entering any necessary authentication details.

Enjoy the Connection: Once the eSIM is set up, you can use it as you would with a physical SIM card. Make calls, send messages, browse the internet, and use data services as needed. You can also switch between eSIM profiles if you have multiple eSIMs installed on your device.

Buying a Morocco SIM card in 2024: Everything you need to know to have an incredible trip

I believe, now more than ever, it’s crucial to stay connected at all times, especially if you work in the online field like me.

But a local SIM card is not just for those who work online, it’s also a great tool to make your travels a tad more relaxed – this is clearly also the case in Morocco .

Given Morocco is quite a challenging country to navigate at times, having a Morocco SIM card with data makes the country so much more accessible – plus you won’t ruin your trip with excessively high roaming costs for using your usual data overseas.

Whether you need help with directions on Google Maps, want to collect inspiration from a blog or Instagram , need roadside assistance or simply want to stay in touch with your family and friends, having a reliable internet connection in Morocco makes things a lot easier.

Luckily for you, it is extremely easy to connect your phone to the internet in Morocco since there are plenty of providers that offer local sim cards with data plans for those visiting the country.

In this guide, I’ve shared everything you need to know about buying a Morocco SIM card , including where to buy one, the best providers, the cost, as well as my personal advice.

Why buy a sim card in Morocco

In these current times, it’s essential to stay connected while travelling around the world, especially if you work online like me.

Whether you need help with directions on Google Maps, want to collect inspiration from a blog or Instagram , need roadside assistance or simply want to stay in touch with your family and friends, having a reliable internet connection in Morocco makes things so much easier.

Add to that, that a Morocco sim card comes at a fair price, and buying one becomes an absolute no-brainer.

While there are quite a few places that offer public WiFI, it’s pretty common that those networks are unsecured – so I personally prefer a data connection from a trustworthy provider instead.

If you do prefer to use public WiFI abroad, make sure you use a reliable VPN such as NordVPN .

Can I use my current phone number while using WhatsApp?

To me, one of the best things about buying a local sim card in Morocco is the fact that you can still use your own phone number while using the services of Whatsapp.

The reason being is that your existing WhatsApp account is registered to your existing number, so switching sim cards makes no difference as long as you don’t change the number in your WhatsApp settings.

While I can imagine that this sounds rather confusing, it will continue to work as before, but now with the data plan package that is active on your local sim card.

I’ve personally done this quite a few times during my travels, so I’m pretty confident that it works for you too.

Also, if you purchase a data plan package at the Marrakech Airport (which I did myself), the vendor will assist you with setting up the sim card to your phone.

Morocco sim card with data plan

Where to buy a sim card

When it comes to buying a sim card in Morocco, you can either buy one upon arrival at the airport, grab one from the many mobile provider stores, get one online and in advance and even buy one from the street vendors at the famous Djemaa El Fna square.

I’ve listed the four options down below:

Marrakech Airport

To me, the best option is to buy a local sim card straight away at the Marrakech Airport, right after you touched down in the country.

As soon as you’ll arrive in the baggage claim area, you’ll stumble upon the stands of Morocco’s leading mobile providers; Orange, Maroc Telecom, and INWI.

These providers have a wide variety of data plan packages on offer, so you can easily select the option that suits your needs.

One thing that’s worth mentioning, is that if you wish to buy your sim card for Morocco at the Marrakech Airport, you’ll have to buy it at one of the above-mentioned stands since you can’t re-enter the baggage hall after you went through customs.

Also, in some cases it is not possible to pay with credit or debit cards – so make sure you have some local currency on hand too.

Mobile provider stores

If you missed the opportunity to buy a sim card at the airport, don’t worry – there are plenty of phone stores situated in Morocco’s major cities, including Marrakech , Fez, Casablanca, and Rabat.

In general, the prices and packages at these stores are similar to those at the airport.

For those looking to buy a sim card from a phone store, make sure you’ll bring your passport, as well as a copy of your passport just to be sure.

As with so many stores in Morocco, English-speaking employees are often limited, which makes those stores slightly more challenging than the stands at the airport.

Street Vendors

Another option is buying a Morocco sim card directly from one of the many vendors found at the popular Djemaa El Fna square in Marrakech.

While these vendors do offer sim card packages from trustworthy providers such as Orange, INWI and Maroc Telecom, you’ll never know which package you receive unless you know Arabic.

Since this option is highly prone to all sorts of scams, I would strongly discourage buying a sim card from street vendors.

However, given the fact that I haven’t purchased a sim card here myself, and had a great experience at Orange at the airport, I’m slightly biased.

Having said that, if you somehow end up picking this option; be cautious and keep in mind that the prices are always negotiable.

E-sim cards

If you’re the type of person that prefers to have everything sorted out before a trip, you likely value the benefits that come with buying an eSIM online.

The eSIM is a completely digital sim card and is by far the most straightforward option. Just order the Choukran eSIM card from Airalo and activate your data package by scanning the QR code that you received in your mail, and you’re good to go!

When in the market for an eSIM, it’s good to know that it’s only possible to obtain one from a 3rd party. I recently stumbled upon Airalo and ever since it has become my go-to when it comes to eSIMs.

Airalo is the world’s first eSIM store and offers data plans for over 190 countries, which makes it super straightforward to be connected to the internet from the moment you land.

More information on the Choukran eSIM for Morocco here .

Morocco sim card Providers

Even though Orange has the smallest 4G network in Morocco, I still believe it is one of the best options if you’re looking to grab a sim card with a data plan in Morocco.

The data packages at Orange include

10 GB data and 300 minutes that are valid for 30 days | 165 MAD(€15,-)

20 GB data and 600 minutes that are valid for 30 days | 330 MAD (€30,-)

A great option for those looking for flexibility, since INWI offers the possibility to create your own package, which operates at the best 4G/5G network in Morocco.

At INWI, you can either choose a custom amount of data that suits your needs at €1,- per gigabyte, or opt for their unlimed plan for 550 MAD (€50,-).

It is good to note that both of these packages are valid for 30 days.

Maroc Telecom

Known to have the best 4G/5G network strength in the whole of Morocco, Maroc Telecom offers a wide variety of prepaid data packages.

The data packages at Maroc Telecom include

20 GB of data that is valid for 30 days | 220 MAD (€20,-)

30 GB of data that is valid for 30 days | 330 MAD (€30,-)

40 GB of data that is valid for 30 days | 440 MAD (€40,-)

Ever since the rise of the now extremely popular eSIM, Airalo  has become the leading company when it comes to this innovative digital alternative.

For Morocco, Airalo created the Choukran eSIM , a data-only package that operates on the networks of Orange or Maroc Telecom.

The Choukran data package at Airalo includes

1 GB of data that is valid for 7 days | 98 MAD (€9,-)

Also, at Airalo you can easily top up your data with 1 GB at a time for 98 MAD (€9,-) through the Airalo app on your phone.

A guide to buying a sim card in Morocco

Given I bought my sim card for Morocco from Orange upon arrival at the Marrakech Airport and had great connectivity throughout my trip, I would obviously recommend anyone to do the same.

For 150 MAD (€13,60), you’ll receive 10GB of data and 300 minutes that is valid for 30 days.

If you’re a large consumer or spent more time in the country, you can also opt for 20GB and 600 minutes at a price of 300 MAD (€27,20). Do note that this package is also valid for 30 days.

I opted for the first option, and had more than enough data for a week in Morocco – plus had a reliable connection for most of the time (except for the High Atlas Mountains).

Alternatively, if you’re the type of traveller that likes to have everything sorted out before your trip, you probably enjoy the benefits of buying an eSIM online too.

Safety in Morocco | Travel insurance

When travelling this big wide world, I never go on an adventure without my essential travel insurance sorted out, and though I felt safe in Morocco , I recommend anyone travelling here to do the same.

Though you rather don’t think about the things that could go wrong, there’s always a chance that something happens, and when that’s the case, it is better to be safe than sorry.

SIM Cards in Morocco: How & Where to Buy + Best Deals

This post may contain affiliate links, from which we earn an income.

Traveling to Morocco? Wondering where and how to buy a local SIM card for your trip to Morocco? We’ve done all the research so you don’t have to!

We spent three months in Morocco in 2023 and tried the three big mobile providers for a month each, and share our findings here.

In this guide to Moroccan SIM cards, we’ll answer all your frequently asked questions, including where to buy your SIM card and data, how to get the best signal and speed, how to get the best 4G, and how to keep your phone topped up for the whole of your stay.

sim cards in Morocco

Do You Need a SIM Card in Morocco?

Most Moroccan hotels, cafés, and restaurants have pretty good WiFi services, so you may be wondering why you even need a mobile SIM card when you’re traveling in Morocco.

If you’re always on the go, using public transport or driving, and hopping between cities and attractions, then a local SIM card is invaluable. The convenience of being able to check your bank balance, translate, book a hotel, or even call for roadside assistance just make life on the road a little bit easier.

Also, public networks in hostels, shopping malls, and eateries are not secure. If you need to manage personal banking, send emails, or do anything other than browsing and streaming, you’ll be vulnerable using the internet in Morocco over a public network.

Good to Know: All Morocco prepaid SIM card prices and exchange rates are accurate at the time of going to press in mid-March 2023.

Planning a trip to Morocco? Get all our tips and tricks about driving in Morocco so you can stay safe on the road and have an amazing trip!

What About Your Existing Provider?

You will not be able to use your data, make calls or send texts with your domestic contract unless you’re willing to spend a lot of money.

Our United Kingdom based mobile phone provider charges us £3.33/US$3.73 per 1GB, or £6/US$6.73 a day for an international roaming package, and some American friends we met in Morocco were looking at even higher costs to use their cell phones overseas.

The best option is to buy a local SIM card. You’ll need to make sure your phone is unlocked, and it’s best to do this before you arrive in Morocco, as it can take a few days.

But what if you don’t want to swap SIMs and lose your number? You could get a portable wifi device, use an eSIM or use an app for calling – but we’ll come onto that later.

Good to Know: All Moroccan operators use 4G, with the transition to 5G expected in 2023.

Best SIM for Morocco: Our Recommendation

If you’re in a hurry and just want to know the best data SIM card to use in Morocco, then go with Maroc Telecom , the largest of the three providers. You can get a Maroc Telecom tourist SIM at Marrakech Airport for 20MAD, which is £1.60/US$1.90, and 5GB of data will cost 50MAD, or £4/US$4.80.

We recommend Maroc Telecom because it has by far the best signal coverage and a wide network of stores and re-sellers across the country, even in the smallest of villages. It is not the cheapest of the Moroccan mobile operators, but at around 80p/96c per 1GB of top-up data, it is at least 70% cheaper than the equivalent costs in the UK or USA.

Good to know: In Morocco, gigabytes are referred to as GO, and not GB.

Buying Tourist SIM Cards in Morocco

Morocco telecom operators.

The sale of Morocco data SIM cards to visitors is controlled and you will only be able to purchase a tourist pre-paid SIM card, which has a nominal balance for calls and SMS. Data must be added separately.

Morocco has three big SIM card providers – Maroc Telecom, Orange Morocco, and Inwi. You’ll find their stores and re-seller shops and kiosks (where you can top-up) at the airports, ferry ports, and in every town and city across the country.

It’s best to buy your SIM card directly from one of their stores, rather than a reseller, kiosk, or street vendor, who may charge you more than the face value and not set it up correctly.

There are no official unlimited data options in Morocco for non-residents, but keep reading for a potential unofficial unlimited SIM!

How to Buy Your Morocco SIM Card

SIM cards are valid for one year and registered against your passport – you must take this with you when you buy the SIM. Once purchased, pop the SIM into your phone, add the data, and check everything is working.

You can only pay for SIM cards and top-ups (called recharger in Morocco) with cash as none of the telecom providers accept anything other than Moroccan-registered credit or debit cards.

You may be able to purchase special data plans with a fixed amount of data per month for a discounted price, but this really only works if you’re planning on staying in the country for more than 90 days.

Good to know: The following frequencies are used in Morocco:  2G – 900 MHz; 3G – 900 MHz & 2100 MHz; 4G/LTE – 800 MHz (Band 20), 1800 MHz (Band 3), and 2600 MHz (Band 7).

Adding Data

Data cards are usually valid for 30 days and generally come in 50MAD or lower denominations, with the largest being 200MAD, which gets you 20GB, although we found most re-sellers do not stock the larger cards.

All Moroccan operators use scratch-off top-up cards or carte de grattage which can be bought widely, and are easy to use based on sending free SMS messages;

  • 99 – to get your number
  • 580 – type 1 into the message text for your balance
  • 555 – type in the number from the scratchcard followed by *3 to top up

Good to know: If you use a lot of data like us, it can be a tedious process of scratching and typing to get your top-ups loaded. If I’ve done a large batch, I usually send an SMS to 580 for my balance, just to make sure all the cards have been loaded.

Compare Morocco SIM Card Providers

Maroc telecom.

SIM: 20MAD £1.60/US$1.90, including 20MAD of credit for national calls and SMS.

Data: Data is topped up with data scratch cards, which cost from 5MAD (40p/48c) for 500MB to 100MAD (£8/US$9.62) for 10GB.

App: The Maroc Telecom app is available in Arabic and French for both IoS and Android operating systems, but we would advise you to get this set up in the Maroc Telecom store when you first buy your SIM card, as you need a password. We were unable to use the app to top-up with a UK-registered credit or debit card, and couldn’t find a way to use the scratch cards with the app, but we did use it to keep an eye on data usage.

Coverage: Maroc Telecom is widely considered to have the best mobile network coverage in the country, which is backed up by their network coverage map . We were able to get a strong 4G signal in even the most remote of spots. Think Erg Chigaga in the Sahara desert , and remote Tafraoute in the Anti-Atlas mountains.

Speed: We were able to upload large video files to YouTube quickly, download high-resolution images easily and stream Netflix. Speed tests showed download speeds regularly in excess of 30mbps.

Good to Know: According to speedtest.net Morocco ranks 63rd in the world for internet speed, with a median download speed of 32.10mbps and a median upload speed of 10.09mbps.

Orange maroc.

SIM: 20MAD (£1.60/US$1.90) included 20MAD of credit for national calls and SMS.

App: Called Orange et moi Maroc, the app is available in Arabic and French for both IoS and Android operating systems. We found this app to be user-friendly (it helps to have a little French) and registration was easy with the telephone number from the SIM card. We were not able to top-up in the app using a UK card, but you can top up using the QR code function to read the scratchcard, saving endless time typing in long numbers! The app also shows your data usage.

Coverage: The Orange Maroc coverage was not as wide as Maroc Telecom – we found this SIM worked less well in southern Morocco, and remore rural spots.

Speed: We were able to upload large video files to YouTube, download high-resolution images, and stream Netflix. Speed tests showed download speeds regularly in excess of 20mbps.

Good to Know: Orange has a giveaway every Friday, called Mes Cadeaux . Just tap the gift icon in the app and see what you get. We’ve had free social media for a day, two hours of unlimited data (yep, we updated everything ), and free data.

mobile phone with Orange Morocco app open in front of desert and palm trees

SIM: 50MAD £4/US$4.80, including 50MAD of credit for national calls and SMS.

Data: Data is topped up with data scratch cards, which cost from 5MAD (40p/48c) for 500MB to 200MAD (£16/US$19.24) for 20GB.

App: Called My Inwi, the app is available in Arabic and French for both IoS and Android operating systems. We found the app to be user-friendly and it was easy to register – just enter your number and a passcode will be sent by SMS to complete the process. Again, it’s not possible to buy data through the app, but you can see how much you’ve used and what you have left.

Coverage: Inwi’s coverage is probably the poorest of the three providers, with patchy service to the east and south of the country.

Speed: When we were able to get a signal, we were able to upload large video files to YouTube, download high-resolution images, and stream Netflix. Speed tests showed download speeds regularly in excess of 20mbps.

Good to know: We know travelers who have been able to buy an unlimited Inwi SIM for 200MAD (£16/US$19.24) a month on a rolling basis, but we were unable to do this and there is no official package showing unlimited mobile data on their website. It’s worth an ask though, you may just get lucky…

Using a VPN in Morocco

It is legal to use a VPN in Morocco . The government, however, does selectively restrict online platforms. They are particularly concerned with online communication, with restrictions on Skype, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger in place at times. We particularly stryggled with making calls using Messenger.

We recommend NordVPN as they offer obfuscated servers, meaning not only can you disguise your IP address at the receiving end, you can disguise it in Morocco too, meaning you can use NordVPN without detection.

We used NordVPN on our phones and Macbooks for the duration of our three-month stay, meaning we could catch up with Netflix and Amazon Prime, manage personal finances, and access lots of websites we wouldn’t have been able to otherwise, like Facebook and WhatsApp.

Using an eSIM in Morocco

An eSIM is a virtual SIM, which usually provides data only. The benefits of eSIMs are multiple;

  • An eSIM card works in your phone in conjunction with your normal SIM – you can move between using one or the other, meaning you can keep your usual number.
  • You buy your eSIM online, making them extremely convenient.
  • eSIM providers work with lots of networks, meaning you’ll connect to the best one wherever you are.
  • An eSIM can cover multiple locations and not tie you to one country. Think the whole of Europe, Africa or North America – how simple would that be?
  • No data roaming fees – you know the costs upfront.
  • You can organize your eSIM at home and activate it on arrival.
  • These data-only SIM cards mean you’re not paying for minutes and texts you don’t need and won’t use.

The only downside is that you have to pay for the convenience, and the per GB cost is high in comparison to local prices. 1GB of data in Morocco with popular eSIM provider Airalo costs £7.90/US$9.50, in comparison to £1.60/US$1.92 for 1GB of Maroc Telecom top-up data.

Good to Know: Your device needs to be unlocked. e-SIMs don’t work with all mobile devices – you can check whether your phone is compatible here .

Price: £22.50 to £39 / US$27 to US$47

Included: From 2.5GB of data for 5 days at the lowest rate to 7.5GB for 15 days at the highest rate. You can use this eSIM to tether and hotspot.

How: Buy online and receive a QR code (so you need a second device or someone with you) to scan, and you’re good to go. Use code THEGAPDECADERS to get 5% off your order.

Top-Up: At the end of the unlimited period, just buy another pack in the app for your existing eSIM.

Portable WiFi Device for Morocco

A portable wifi device or portable hotspot means you can keep your number, and tether or hotspot to the device, wherever you are. A pocket wifi device like this operates like a router at home, meaning more than one device can be connected simultaneously.

Instead of connecting to your internet service provider, the WiFi device uses cloud SIM technology, meaning you don’t need to buy a SIM card because it’s already included.

GlocalMe devices usually come pre-loaded with a few GB of data, and then you can buy more via their app or online. GlocalMe offers a variety of packs from one-day passes for £3.60/US$4, to an 8GB 30-day pack for £40/US$45.

Just register your device online or in the app and purchase data packs for immediate mobile internet connectivity.

With the introduction of eSIM Morocco, staying connected in this fascinating country just got a lot easier.

So whether you plan to visit Morocco for just a few days, a few weeks or longer – there are four Morocco eSIM data plans to choose from.

In this post, we’ll explain more about eSIMs, why they benefit visitors and tourists in Morocco, and how easy it is to purchase an eSIM for Morocco.

Table of Contents

So, what is an eSIM?

An eSIM, or embedded SIM (that’s what the ‘e’ stands for), is a digital SIM card already encrypted within a phone or device. It works similarly to a plastic SIM card, allowing users to join multiple cellular networks and access data and message servicing apps.

Unlike a physical SIM card, eSIM doesn’t require swapping out those minuscule cards on your device. Instead, an eSIM is downloaded digitally and then activated on your device.

There are straightforward steps to follow when downloading an eSIM to your device; we’ll cover that below.

The Best eSIM in Morocco – 4 x Data Plans To Choose From

Airalo currently offers 4 x Data Packs for Morocco eSIM.

  • 1GB for $8, valid 7 days
  • 2GB for $14.50, valid 15 days
  • 3GB for $20.50, valid 30 days
  • 5GB for $30, valid for 30 days

An essential feature of Airalo Morocco eSIM is that it offers a dependable connection nationwide. So, knowing you will have fast and reliable internet throughout your stay in Morocco provides peace of mind.

The process for how to buy an eSIM for Morocco is easy.

Important:  Your device must be compatible with eSIM. Please  check this list to see if your device supports eSIM  before purchasing an eSIM.

Download  the Airalo app  and purchase a data package from any of the 4 available eSIMs for Morocco .

Follow the steps to activate the eSIM for Morocco just before you arrive (remember that the data pack starts from the activation date).

A Few Tips:

  • Before you arrive in Morocco, switch from your current mobile provider to the local eSIM provider. Don’t worry; there is a step-by-step guide on how to do it during installation.
  • Once your eSIM card is activated, turn off data for all apps you don’t use, including those that can use a lot of data. Apps such as  Instagram , YouTube, and Netflix will deplete your data quickly, so you can only access it once you reach your hotel and access the complimentary Wi-Fi.

And, if you decide to extend your stay in Morocco, you can top up your eSIM on the Airalo app within minutes. I told you it’s convenient!

You can buy, download and activate an eSIM on your device without visiting a physical store or navigating the language barrier upon arrival in a new country.

Furthermore, Airalo eSIMs for Morocco can be topped up anytime if you run low on data.

Prepaid SIM cards, mobile data and phone calls in Morocco

Wi-Fi is frequently available free of charge in Morocco. But to avoid being confined to your accommodation when going online, and to ensure reliable internet access at other times, it’s worth investing in a Moroccan SIM card. Read on to find out how much a Moroccan SIM is likely to cost you, where you can buy one, and which providers are best avoided.

Morocco has relatively well-developed infrastructure when it comes to mobile internet and mobile communications. Services such as Google Maps, Skype or WhatsApp (which is widely used in Morocco) can generally be counted on to work reliably. With a Moroccan SIM card, you should get good reception pretty much anywhere in the country and be able to surf the net at reasonable speeds, often with 4G. I’ve achieved stabile G-3 connections, even in the remote Atlas Mountains.

Roaming charges will mean that using your own mobile number to make calls in Morocco could end up becoming expensive, particularly if you’re using your phone to make calls from Morocco to European numbers. These charges will obviously vary depending on your provider, but getting a prepaid Moroccan SIM should make your phone calls much more affordable.

Where can I buy a SIM card for Morocco?

As previously mentioned, SIM cards are routinely used in Morocco to access mobile data with a smartphone. If you intend to get online straight away, you can purchase a SIM shortly after your arrival at the airport. Maroc Telecom and Orange au Maroc (formerly Méditel) both have small stands in the arrival‘s hall at the airport.

If you aren’t in a hurry to purchase a SIM card as soon as you arrive, there will be ample opportunities to do so later. In the Medina there are kiosks and small mobile phone shops on practically every corner selling prepaid SIMs with credit. You can also get help with inserting the new SIM into your mobile.

How much do SIM cards for mobile internet cost in Morocco?

Mobile data is affordable in Morocco. With a bit of luck, you’ll receive some starting credit when you purchase your SIM. Thereafter, you’ll need to top up your credit manually. You can expect to pay in the region of 10 DH per 1 GB data. Don’t be confused if the data usage does not appear to be calculated in GB. In Morocco, gigabytes are abbreviated as Go (giga-octet).

Be aware that there are several different types of SIM card available. With a so-called Carte Internet Mobile prépayée, you will only receive mobile data. No calls can be made with this card. These SIMs are often sold in a bundle with a 3G/UMTS stick.

If you intend to make phone calls with your mobile during your stay in Morocco, I recommend that you buy a universal SIM card (Jawal), which provides mobile data, calls and texts.

SIM card in Morocco Prices

The amount of data required will depend on your average usage and other factors. How long will you be in Morocco? Does your accommodation include free Wi-Fi? For a stay of two weeks, you should probably ensure a mobile data allowance of 3-5GB.

Which prepaid SIM card is good for mobile internet in Morocco?

There are three major telecoms companies in Morocco: Maroc Telecom, Orange au Maroc und inwi. As elsewhere, these providers offer various tariffs and network coverage. As a rule, you can expect more reliable coverage in towns and cities than in more remote, rural areas.

Maroc Telecom

Maroc Telecom is the biggest and best recommended of the three main providers. It offers the most extensive network coverage and the most reasonable prices. Maroc Telecom’s SIM cards are available to buy in practically any town or village. In addition to the normal tariff, it also offers international tariffs, which make calls to international numbers more affordable. If you are planning a more extended stay, a flat rate offer is probably worthwhile.

Tarifs mobile Internet Morocco

Orange Maroc

The second-biggest provider, Orange Maroc , was formerly known as Méditel. Its average prices are also in the region of 10 DH per GB of data. When it comes to Orange‘s network coverage, there are some significant regional variations. Most Moroccans prefer Maroc Telecom and report that it has the most stable network. However, Orange has the upper hand in the south of the country and in the desert, where its network is noticeably faster than Maroc Telecom‘s.

Morocco’s third largest mobile telecoms provider is inwi. I have not yet had any personal experience with this company‘s SIM cards. But to date I have heard almost exclusively negative reports about its network coverage, particularly in the south of the country. If you use an inwi SIM card in Morocco, I welcome your feedback.

Alternatives to mobile internet with SIM cards

Free Wi-Fi is now more or less standard at any accommodation in Morocco, so your hotel’s Wi-Fi is probably the best alternative to buying your own local SIM. If you would like to use your phone as a navigation tool with Google Maps, try using an app that also works offline.

Free Wi-Fi is widely available throughout Morocco. From the moment you arrive at the airport, you can connect to the public Wi-Fi and distract yourself whilst queuing for passport control. If you decide to travel into central Marrakech from Menara Airport by private transfer , rather than taking the shuttlebus , you can even make use of Wi-Fi during this journey.

When you’re travelling, you can be confident of being able to go online at your accommodation. Practically all hotels and riads in Morocco now offer free Wi-Fi to all guests. This service is also becoming standard at many cafés and restaurants.

Internet cafes

Every town in Morocco has internet cafes and so-called teleboutiques with payphones. Internet cafes will usually offer related services such as document scanning or printing as well as computers with internet access.

For many visitors to Morocco, the free Wi-Fi provided at their hotel will be more than adequate. After all, you’re on holiday and most things can wait until the evening. But for those dependent on constant internet access, or those planning a lengthy road trip in a hire car, mobile data can prove very handy.

You can purchase a SIM card at pretty much any town in Morocco. The country‘s network coverage is extensive and prices for mobile data are very reasonable. You can expect to pay about 10 DH per gigabyte of data.

I’m currently in Egypt and had to find out that an Orange SIM makes it impossible to make voice or video calls using WhatsApp, there’s specific messages saying that when you attempt to make such a call.

Are you planning your trip to Morocco and looking for the best e-sim card to stay connected and avoid high roaming charges? This is a complete guide with everything you need to know about using an e-sim card when traveling to Morocco including a comparison of the best Morocco e-sim cards in 2024.

Don’t waste money on high roaming charges, read my recommendations below and order an e-sim card for Morocco on the internet and get connected in just a couple minutes. Below you will find a Morocco e-sim comparison, up to date prices as per April 2024, all specifications and my recommendations.

This guide will also show you where and when to order an e-sim card for Morocco, answer all your FAQ’s about using e-sim cards, a comparison with local prepaid sim cards for Morocco and of course links to directly order your e-sim card for traveling to Morocco online.

Since 2012 I am already traveling the world full time and throughout the years I turned my passion for traveling into a lifestyle and became a full time nomadic travel blogger . That is why I constantly get to a different country and pretty much every week I need to look for a new sim card to stay connected.

In 2023 I visited for example 34 different countries so imagine how many different prepaid and e-sim cards I used throughout the year.

In the past I used to buy a local prepaid sim card on arrival in every country, but nowadays I mostly use e-sim cards to stay connected when traveling abroad. On my latest trip to Morocco I tested the below recommended Morocco e-sim cards for tourists.

Helping other travelers to save money while traveling the world is one of the reasons I started this travel blog. Providing essential travel tips is what made me start writing sim card guides from every country I visited and now on Traveltomtom you can already find more than 200 sim card guides from all over the world.

Let me start with giving you my e-sim card recommendation for Morocco in 2024. These are my favorite e-sim cards for traveling to Morocco in 2024.

My recommendation

Traveltomtom recommends the following two e-sim cards for traveling to Morocco:

1. Orange Holiday World eSIM for $39.90 USD

  • 10 GB data-only e-sim
  • Valid in 124 countries
  • Valid for 14 days
  • $3.99 USD per Gigabyte

2. Airalo e-sim card for $31.50 USD

  • 5 GB data-only e-sim
  • Operates on the Orange network
  • Valid in Morocco only
  • Valid for 30 days
  • $6.3 USD per Gigabyte

The simple reason why Traveltomtom recommends the Orange Holiday World eSIM for traveling to Morocco is that it is the best value e-sim with the lowest cost per Gigabyte. You can order this Orange e-sim card for Morocco via SimOptions .

With $3.99 USD per Gigabyte the Orange e-sim card from SimOptions is the cheapest rate available for Morocco e-sims.

The other recommendation is an Airalo e-sim card for Morocco . Traveltomtom has been using Airalo e-sim cards for nearly 5 years now and never had an issue.

Both e-sim cards for Morocco are not 5G ready, so only 4G/LTE network is supported. Both e-sim cards are data-only and do not come with a phone number. Which means incoming and outgoing calls and sms are not supported with these e-sims.

Is Morocco one of your stops on a trip around the world then you can also look into getting an e-sim card for world travelers . There are a bunch of e-sim cards that cover multiple countries and some are great for traveling to Africa.

There are 2 very important things to check before ordering an e-sim card for Morocco or in general before using an e-sim card.

Unlocked phones only

Make sure your phone is unlocked. E-sim cards for tourists only work in unlocked phones. If you are not sure if your phone is unlocked then contact your mobile internet provider in your home country.

In general phones from Europe, Asia and the Middle East tend to be unlocked. Phones from North America are often locked.

If your smartphone is locked that means it does not allow another prepaid sim card or e-sim card to operate in the device. You can easily unlock your phone, but depending on your mobile internet provider you will be charged a fee for unlocking your phone.

E-sim compatible phones only

Second, and equally important: e-sim cards only work if your smartphone supports e-sim cards, also called e-sim compatible. All newer smartphones support e-sim cards. If you are not sure if your phone is e-sim compatible then simply go to Google and type in your mobile phone model in the search bar and ask if it is e-sim compatible. You will get the answer instantly.

If your phone is NOT e-sim compatible then there is no other solution and you can NOT use an e-sim card for traveling to Morocco.

However, you can still order a sim card for Morocco on the internet before your trip. Find out everything you need to know about international sim cards for traveling abroad in 2024 .

Comparison of the best e-sim cards for Morocco

Buying an e-sim card on arrival in Morocco is still not possible. None of the mobile internet providers in Morocco offer e-sim cards for tourists, only physical prepaid sim cards for tourists. At Marrakech, Casablanca and Agadir Airport there are sim card shops on arrival, but none of them have e-sim cards.

The only way to get an e-sim card for Morocco is ordering one on the internet.

Luckily there are multiple e-sim providers that sell Morocco e-sim cards for tourists. Traveltomtom recommends ordering an e-sim card for traveling in Morocco from one of the well-known e-sim card providers that have proven to be reliable operators.

Traveltomtom has tested and reviewed multiple e-sim providers. Here are Traveltomtom's trusted favorites that have proven to be reliable:

Nowadays, you can buy an e-sim card for pretty much every country around the world. Order directly from one of the above e-sim card providers and instantly receive your e-sim card in your email. But before you buy an e-sim card first read all my tips below.

SimOptions is the only e-sim provider that also offers international prepaid sim cards for Morocco . These are pre-activated physical prepaid sim cards that will be delivered to your door step before your trip and it is plug and play when you arrive in Morocco.

Airalo and Nomad only sell e-sim cards for Morocco.

SimOptions is a reputable e-sim card provider that is very much recommended by Traveltomtom. Ordering your tourist e-sim card for Morocco through SimOptions is done fast and easy.

Traveltomtom has used SimOptions uncountable times for staying connected when traveling abroad. Very reliable, never an issue and often some of the cheapest e-sim card deals.

SimOptions is specialized in international e-sim cards valid in multiple countries. SimOptions has 2 international e-sim cards available for traveling to Morocco.

simoptions esim cards for morocco 2024

Check out the following 2 international e-sim cards from AIS and Orange.

  • 6 GB data for 10 days = $39.90 USD
  • 10 GB data for 14 days = $39.90 USD

The SimOptions e-sim cards are not only valid in Morocco but in up to 141 countries around the world. The Orange Holiday World eSIM is the best value Morocco e-sim card deal with 10 GB data for $39.90 USD which comes down to $3.99 USD per Gigabyte.

Unfortunately SimOptions doesn’t specify exactly which mobile network operator in Morocco they use. The international e-sim cards from SimOptions are not 5G ready, so the max data speed on these Morocco e-sim cards is 4G/LTE. However, as of April 2024 there is still no 5G available in Morocco.

The validity of these e-sim cards is 1 year and the credit validity starts instantly after installing the e-sim card, even if you are not in Morocco. For more info check the SimOptions website .

Airalo is a very reliable e-sim card provider and Traveltomtom has used Airalo uncountable times in more than 50 countries around the world. I can totally recommend using Airalo for ordering an e-sim card.

Why using Airalo? Airalo is one of the most recommended e-sim providers and very reliable. Airalo has e-sim cards for pretty much every country in the world. However, fact is that Airalo e-sim cards are more expensive per Gigabyte compared to the SimOptions e-sims I showed you above.

Another reason to order an Airalo e-sim card for Morocco is that they are the cheapest e-sims for Morocco and start from $8 USD.

airalo esim card plans for morocco 2024

Here are the Airalo e-sim card plans for Morocco for 2024:

  • 1 GB data for 7 days = $8 USD
  • 2 GB data for 15 days = $14.5 USD
  • 3 GB data for 30 days = $20.5 USD
  • 5 GB data for 30 days = $31.5 USD

Click here to order an e-sim card for Morocco from Airalo .

The best value Morocco e-sim card from Airalo gives you 5 GB data for $31.5 USD, which comes down to $6.3 USD per Gigabyte.

The Airalo e-sim cards for Morocco are from Choukran and they operate on the 4G/LTE network of Orange. The Airalo e-sim cards for Morocco are not 5G ready yet, but that is because there is still no 5G available in Morocco. In the most popular places to visit in Morocco you will find a 4G/LTE signal and the data speed is pretty good these days.

For more info about the best 4G/LTE mobile data network in Morocco check my complete guide for the best prepaid sim card for Morocco in 2024, including network coverage maps of all the mobile internet providers.

All the Airalo e-sim cards are data-only sim cards without a phone number, so any phone/sms service is NOT supported. An Airalo e-sim card has to be installed within 1 month and after activation the credit validity starts when it connects the first time to a supported network. For more info check out the Airalo website .

Lately Traveltomtom started recommending Nomad e-sim cards as they sometimes have cheap tourist e-sims for a lot of countries. Unfortunately, the Nomad e-sim card plans for Morocco are pretty expensive compared to Airalo and SimOptions.

On top of that Traveltomtom had some not so positive experiences with the performance of Nomad e-sim cards, so it is not Traveltomtom's first recommended e-sim for traveling to Morocco in 2024.

nomad esim card plans for morocco 2024

Here are the Nomad e-sim card plans for Morocco for 2024:

  • 1 GB data for 7 days = $13 USD
  • 3 GB data for 30 days = $25 USD
  • 5 GB data for 30 days = $34 USD
  • 10 GB data for 30 days = $57 USD

Click here to order an e-sim card for Morocco from Nomad .

The Nomad website is a little less user friendly for finding the best e-sim cards for traveling to Morocco. You can't see all e-sim card deals in one overview, you have to click a little here and there depending on the size of your screen.

The best value e-sim card for Morocco from Nomad is the one with 10 GB data for $57 USD,  which comes down to $5.7 USD per Gigabyte.

The Nomad e-sim cards are from eSIM Go and they are data-only. Incoming and outgoing calls and sms are NOT supported. They operate on the LTE/4G network of Maroc Telecom and Inwi Mobile.

The Nomad Morocco e-sim cards have to be installed on your phone within 30 days and after installation its validity starts when it connects for the first time to a supported network in Morocco. Basically when the plane lands. For more info check the Nomad website .

What is the cheapest e-sim card for Morocco?

cheapest esim card for morocco 2024

The cheapest e-sim card for Morocco is an Airalo e-sim card for $8 USD  and it will give you 1 GB data for 7 days. This e-sim is only valid in Morocco and does not support calling and texting.

Why ordering an e-sim card for traveling in Morocco

E-sim cards are the easiest way to stay connected when traveling to Morocco in 2024 and you can arrange everything online in just a couple clicks. No more visiting a sim card shop and swapping physical sim cards. Order online, scan the QR code, follow the steps and you are connected in less than 2 minutes.

The most important reason to get an e-sim card is because we would like to stay connected on our trip to Morocco without wasting money on high roaming costs. Our smartphones are pretty useless without a working data connection. Think about ordering a taxi through an app, finding nearby friends, restaurants and bars. Get directions from Google Maps or simply staying in touch with family back home, check your social media apps on long bus rides or your banking apps when paying contactless.

One of the best things about arriving in Morocco with an activated e-sim card is that you are online as soon as the plane lands. More about when to instal your e-sim card later.

There are so many reasons to stay connected when traveling to Morocco, but the most important reason is that it makes your trip to Morocco so much more convenient and fun!

At the same time we don’t want to waste money on high roaming charges. Many mobile internet operators still charge $3 USD per MB for data roaming, that means just opening the Instagram app will already cost you 20 MB * $3 USD = $60 USD! Not kidding… it still is very common in 2024.

E-sim cards are the easiest way to avoid high roaming charges!

Overseas data roaming plans

So what about overseas data roaming plans? Well, not recommended! Why? Did you read the small letters at what data speed you can use data roaming? Pretty much all mobile internet operators limit the data speed for overseas data roaming plans, which means you end up with 3G data speed. Do you have the patience to handle 3G? It is frustrating when all around you in pretty much all of the amazing tourist destinations in Morocco there is 4G/LTE available.

And price-wise it should be a no brainer since you have seen how affordable the e-sim cards for Morocco are. Why would you pay $5 to $10 USD per day on an overseas data roaming plan that limits your data speed.

Uncountable times travel friends have asked me: “Tom, can I use your hotspot? My data roaming plan is so slow, it is barely working!” Trust me, invest a couple dollars in an e-sim card or an international prepaid sim card for traveling to Morocco  if you want a physical prepaid sim card.

Stay connected all the time instead of begging for WiFi or a hotspot from friends.

Where to buy an e-sim card for Morocco?

You can only buy an e-sim card for Morocco through an e-sim card provider on the internet. There are multiple e-sim card providers for Morocco. Traveltomtom compared around 7 e-sim card providers and concluded that the above mentioned ones ( SimOptions , Airalo and Nomad ) are the best e-sim card providers in 2024.

When buying an e-sim card for Morocco through one of the above recommended e-sim providers you only need your email address and the e-sim card is instantly ready to use after installation. There is no ID registration needed.

On arrival in Morocco

There are 3 main mobile internet providers in Morocco: Orange, Maroc Telecom and Inwi Mobile. Unfortunately as per April 2024 none of the mobile internet operators in Morocco offer e-sim cards for tourists.

That means you can only get a physical prepaid sim card for tourists, a chip that you put in your phone. On arrival in Morocco you will have to go to a phone store to buy a local prepaid sim card or you can get an overpriced tourist sim card at for example Marrakech Airport.

Traveltomtom also wrote a specific guide for buying a sim card at Marrakech Airport .

For more info about buying a prepaid sim card for tourists in Morocco in 2024 click on the link to read my complete guide and a comparison of all the mobile internet providers in Morocco.

For my research about the best Morocco prepaid sim cards for tourists I also compared all the 4G/5G data networks of the mobile internet operators in Morocco and I found out that Inwi Mobile has a much better 4G/5G mobile data network compared to Orange and Maroc Telecom.

When to order/activate an e-sim card for Morocco?

You can order an e-sim card for Morocco pretty much any time you want. Most e-sim cards have to be installed on a phone within 1 month after purchasing, some even within 1 year, so you have time.

More important therefore is when do you instal/activate the e-sim card. The validity of some e-sims start straight after the installation, other e-sim cards only start their validity when they connect the first time to a supported network.

Traveltomtom advices to instal your e-sim card on the day of departure to Morocco or a day before. You will need a stable internet connection to instal your e-sim card. Pretty much all the international airports in Morocco have free public WiFi which works ok most of the time, so you could use that to install your e-sim card on arrival.

Very important is to make sure you have a stable internet connection or you might run into issues with your e-sim. Therefore just to make sure Traveltomtom advices you to install/activate your e-sim card in your home country.

My personal advice is to instal your tourist e-sim card for Morocco before you get into the plane, because then as soon as the plane lands in Morocco you will be connected to the internet and you can enjoy data on your phone instantly.

How do I know all this info about e-sims? Traveltomtom uses on average more than 30 e-sim cards per year because of my nomadic lifestyle of constantly traveling the world, 365 days a year, since 2012.

How to activate an e-sim card

Installing and activating an e-sim card is made as simple as possible. Everyone can activate an e-sim card and the instructions on how to are very detailed and will be send to you instantly by email. But wait, it gets even easier. Just scan the QR code.

When you order an e-sim card plan for Morocco you instantly receive a summery of your order including a QR-code after the payment is processed.

You will see a summary of your e-sim card order including a QR code on your screen and at the same time you will also receive an email with the same QR code. The email contains instructions on how to instal and activate your Morocco e-sim card.

But installing an activating an e-sim card is as easy as scanning the QR code with the same phone where you want to activate the e-sim card on. The QR contains all the information about your Morocco e-sim card.

Once you scan the code you will be guided through a couple simple steps and within less than 1 minute your e-sim card is successfully installed.

Very important is that you are connected to the internet when installing your e-sim card otherwise you will get an error and issues can occur.

Tip: if you order an e-sim card with the same phone where you want to instal the e-sim card on then ask a friend or someone nearby to take a photo of the QR code and then you scan the QR code from his/her phone and start the installation.

Things to know before ordering an e-sim card for Morocco

Here are some general tips and FAQ’s for using e-sim cards when traveling abroad. These tips do not only apply for Morocco e-sim cards, but are things you have to know before buying an e-sim card in general.

Make sure your phone is unlocked

To make sure you didn’t miss this, let me say this again: e-sim cards only work in UNLOCKED phones. If your phone is unlocked then you can use any e-sim card without any problems.

If your phone is locked then ask your mobile internet provider from your home country to unlock your phone before your trip to Morocco. It is likely that your mobile internet provider will charge you a fee for unlocking your smartphone.

If you are unable to unlock your phone you can look into getting a portable WiFi for staying connected when traveling to Morocco or better… bring a second unlocked phone on your trip to Morocco and use it as a portable WiFi device.

Which smartphones support e-sim cards?

Another very important thing you have to check before buying an e-sim card is if your smartphone supports e-sim cards. If you have any of the latest smartphones then there is no need to worry, all new smartphones of the well known brands support e-sim cards.

The fastest way to find out if your phone is e-sim compatible is by asking Google the question: is my (your phone model) e-sim compatible? Simple as that!

Can I trust these e-sim card providers?

All the e-sim card providers for Morocco recommended above ( SimOptions , Airalo and Nomad ) are reputable e-sim card providers reviewed and tested by Traveltomtom. All of them are licensed third party companies and resellers that partner or work directly with the mobile internet providers in Morocco.

Traveltomtom has successfully partnered for several consecutive years with SimOptions and Airalo. Nomad is a fairly new to Traveltomtom, but Nomad has so far proven to be a reliable e-sim card provider as well.

That said, Traveltomtom has faced some issues with installing Nomad e-sim card which was a bit disappointing and therefore it is recommended to follow all steps exactly as described and make sure you are connected to a stable internet connection.

All e-sim card providers have their own Helpdesk which you can contact may you encounter any problems with your purchased e-sim or in case you want to claim a refund.

Traveltomtom does NOT sell Morocco e-sim cards, I only RECOMMEND you to use e-sim cards for your next trip to Morocco instead of buying a local prepaid sim card.

Can I keep my phone number from home with a Morocco e-sim card?

Yes, you can and this is for many people a reason to order an e-sim card to stay connected when traveling to Morocco. An e-sim card can be used next to your physical or e-sim card from your home country at the same time. You do not need a dual-sim phone for using an e-sim card.

So you can have multiple e-sim cards installed on your phone? Yes, no problem at all!

For example: you can turn off the mobile data from your sim card from home but still use it for texting and calling. Your new Morocco e-sim card you can be used at the same time just for data to ensure you are not wasting money on high roaming costs.

This is also the trick to keep receiving sms for example for OTP (one time password) sms to login to applications.

Switching between physical and e-sim cards is a matter of turning them on/off in the settings. Just always make sure your sim card from home is switched off for data roaming.

Can I make phone calls with a Morocco e-sim card?

No, unfortunately all the tourist e-sim cards for Morocco available on the internet do NOT include calling and texting. The e-sim cards from SimOptions , Airalo and Nomad  are data-only e-sim cards and any outgoing calls/sms are not supported.

If you buy a local prepaid sim card for tourists on arrival in Morocco then you get (unlimited) calling and texting included, but these are only physical prepaid sim cards, e-sims for tourists are not available in Morocco.

Pretty much all hotels, restaurants, guides and tour companies in Morocco have WhatsApp services, so you can easily give them a call through WhatsApp. There is no direct need for local calling minutes.

Does a Morocco e-sim card come with a phone number?

No, none of the Morocco e-sim cards you can buy on the internet come with a phone number, which also means you can not receive any phone calls or sms.

Local prepaid sim cards that you buy on arrival in Morocco offer incoming and outgoing calling and texting.

In the above Morocco e-sim card comparison you can find all the specifications per e-sim card.

Can I use 5G on an Morocco e-sim card?

No, unfortunately none of the e-sim cards for Morocco are 5G ready. Which means the max data speed on all e-sims is 4G/LTE.

The simple reason for this is that there is still no 5G available in Morocco as of April 2024. That said, all the best places to visit in Morocco offer an excellent 4G/LTE signal and the data speed is pretty good.

Are there e-sim cards for Morocco with unlimited data?

None of the by Traveltomtom recommended Morocco e-sim cards for tourists include unlimited data.

Even if you would come across e-sim card providers that offer e-sim cards for Morocco with unlimited data then make sure the unlimited data is on max data speed. Mostly the data speed is capped after you used X amount of Gigabytes.

Holafly is an e-sim card provider that sells e-sim cards with unlimited data, but does NOT specify what is the exact so-called Fair Use Policy (FUP).

Traveltomtom does NOT recommend Morocco e-sim cards with unlimited data plans. There are always restrictions. And on Holafly sim cards I experienced a reduce in data speed after using more than 2 GB per day. When I contacted support they explained me that I had to wait for 24 hours until my data speed was restored to normal.

Those 24 hours were a nightmare as my data speed was barely enough to use WhatsApp. Social media apps were not loading!

Again, Traveltomtom does NOT recommend e-sim cards for Morocco with unlimited data. But if you think you will never use more than 2 GB per day, then this might be your favorite e-sim card. However, then you should ask yourself: what is then the point of an e-sim with unlimited data!?

The Orange Holiday World eSIM gives you 10 GB data which for most travelers is more than enough for their trip to Morocco. If this is not enough you can also order 2 e-sim cards and after one is done, you instal the second one.

There are a lot of different specifications per e-sim card. Another reason why I advice you to take a close look at my comparison of the best e-sim cards for traveling to Morocco in 2024 before choosing your favorite.

Are e-sim cards the best way to stay connected when traveling to Morocco?

E-sim cards are the easiest and fastest way to get data on your phone when traveling to Morocco, but what is the best way?

There are 3 ways to stay connected when traveling to Morocco:

Local prepaid sim cards

International prepaid sim cards, e-sim cards.

Let’s compare e-sim cards, local prepaid sim cards and international prepaid sim cards, for you to find out what is your preferred way of staying connected.

In general if you use a lot of data then local prepaid sim cards are a cheaper way to stay connected, depending on the length of your trip.

Data plans on local prepaid sim cards in Morocco are much bigger than on e-sim cards. For around $20 USD you can get a local prepaid sim card with 20 GB data. The downside is that a local prepaid sim card for tourists can only be purchased on arrival in Morocco in a phone store or at the airport but NOT on the internet.

Another big difference is that local prepaid sim cards have the advantage that they come with a local phone number and mostly with calling minutes and sms bundles. That means incoming and outgoing calls are supported.

However, when buying a local prepaid sim card in Morocco you get a physical sim card and you need to swap this one with your existing sim card from home.

More info about the best Morocco sim cards for tourists can be found in my complete guide for buying a prepaid sim card for Morocco in 2024 or check out Traveltomtom's guide for buying a sim card at Marrakech Airport .

If your smartphone is not e-sim compatible you can order an international prepaid sim card for traveling to Morocco. These are physical prepaid sim cards you order on the internet and will be delivered to your home address.

Some of these are great for visiting Morocco and they are valid in up to 141 countries around the world and you can easily order them online.

If after visiting Morocco you are traveling onwards in Africa or in Europe then check Traveltomtom’s list of the best sim cards for traveling internationally in 2024 .

international prepaid sim cards for morocco

As I mentioned before SimOptions is the only sim card provider that also sells physical prepaid sim cards for traveling internationally.

A pre-activated physical sim card will be delivered to your door step before your trip to Morocco. You put this physical sim card in your phone and as soon as the plane touches the ground in Morocco and the sim card connects to a supported network you are online. Plug and play!

If you look at the international prepaid sim cards above you see that the physical sim card version of the Orange Holiday World is also a good option for traveling to Morocco.

A physical prepaid sim card with 10 GB data only costs $49.90 USD, which is only $4.99 USD per Gigabyte.

Click here to order a physical prepaid sim card for Morocco via SimOptions .

As explained throughout the article there are two different e-sim cards for traveling in Morocco:

  • E-sim cards that you buy on the internet through a third party
  • E-sim cards that you buy in Morocco in a mobile internet provider store

However, as of April 2024 the mobile internet providers in Morocco do NOT offer e-sim cards for tourists. They only provide physical prepaid sim cards for tourists.

E-sim cards vs. local prepaid sim cards

Getting an e-sim card on the internet is the easiest way to stay connected when traveling to Morocco, no doubt! You arrange everything online within just a couple clicks. Right here, right now and you are all set for your trip to Morocco.

You arrive prepared and there is no need to visit a sim card shop on arrival in Morocco. As soon as the plane lands, you are online!

But what is cheaper? An e-sim card or a local prepaid sim card for tourists?

When we compare the prices for Morocco e-sim cards with the prices for local prepaid sim cards in Morocco, it is an easy conclusion that local prepaid sim cards are more affordable as you get more Gigabytes for the same price.

For around $20 USD you get a local prepaid sim card with 20 GB data for 1 month. For more info check out my article about the best prepaid sim cards for Morocco in 2024.

But local prepaid sim cards can only be bought in Morocco on arrival in a sim card shop or at the airport with your passport and a tourist e-sim card for Morocco can be bought in 2 minutes on the internet at any time of day without any form of identification.

Remember that some of the e-sim cards for Morocco also go down to only $3.99 USD per Gigabyte. The Orange Holiday World eSIM from SimOptions  gives you 10 GB data and is the best buy e-sim card for Morocco in 2024.

After a long flight you just want to get to your hotel and it is often a big task to go to a phone store and buy a local prepaid sim card. With an e-sim card that you order on the internet you are connected as soon as the plane lands.

Simply because of this convenience Traveltomtom recommends ordering an e-sim cards for Morocco from either  SimOptions ,  Nomad  or  Airalo .

There are many reasons why a lot of travelers simply get an e-sim card for visiting Morocco: faster, easier, less stress and even cheaper depending on how much data you need.

Another difference between a local prepaid sim card and an e-sim card is that e-sim cards are in general through a third party, a so called MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator). These MVNO’s operate on the network of one of the main mobile internet operators and basically buy bandwidth.

This may sound a little bit too technical, but what it means is that e-sim cards through an MVNO are the last ones in line when the line is busy. Especially during peak times, the performance of an e-sim cards could be less compared to a local prepaid sim card from a mobile internet operator you bought in Morocco.

Bottomline: the data speed of e-sim cards can be less compared to a local prepaid Morocco sim card.

In reality you won't really notice the difference much because yes it may occur that your data speed is a little slower for a couple minutes, but it is still fast enough to roam the internet without any problems.

I am sure some of the above tips for finding the best e-sim card for your trip to Morocco were helpful. I hope that after reading through my comparison and all my tips and tricks it was easier to make a decision and order your preferred e-sim card for Morocco.

BEST MOROCCO SIM CARD FOR TOURIST COMPARED AND PREPAID SIM CARD IN MOROCCO

First thing we have to say about prepaid sim card in Morocco, internet and data connection is great in Morocco at the big cities. Unless you go to the desert or any place far from the cities. I didn’t go out so far and the connection was great all the time. Plus you can also get wifi at the hotels.

We recommend you to buy a Morocco sim card at the airport because prices and packages are the same than in an official store. Especially if you get the free sim card and you top up.

BUYING MOROCCO SIM CARD IN THE AIRPORT (SIM CARD MARRAKECH AIRPORT)

Getting a free sim card Marrakech airport with Orange is simple and easy. When you are getting to  Morocco International Airport  they will offer you a free sim card for Morocco.

You will get some sms and you will decide if you want to continue purchasing data packages. Make sure you are bringing your passport when buying in the airport, pick up service, or in a shop since it’s always required. They usually take a picture to your passport.

You can purchase a sim card in Marrakech airport and you can buy a sim card at Casablanca airport but packages will be more expensive. But if you are in a hurry and you compare prices can be an option since the difference it’s not huge.

Maroc Telecom Sim Carc

Maroc sim card Telecom is the largest phone operator and with the best coverage. Maroc Telecom has a tourist sim card called Jawal 4G prepaid sim card costs MAD 40=$4 USD coming with 5 GB data valid 30 days. It think this is already a pretty good deal for traveling around the country since most of the times you will get wifi in your accommodation.

If you want to get more data packages with Maroc Telecom prepaid sim called Pass Jawal Internet: for 10 MAD with 1 GB data valid 3 days. For 20 MAD with 2 GB data valid 7 days. If you prefer for 30 days you can get for 50 MAD with 5 GB data and 100 MAD with 10 GB data.

My Morocco Sim Card Conclusion is getting Maroc Telecom prepaid sim card for 50 MAD with 5 GB data and 100 MAD with 10 GB data valid for 30 days since it has the best coverage.

You can see prices for data packages in Morocco are similar between all of them. If you get a free sim card with Orange Morocco prepaid sim in the airport you can top up data packages.

If you stay in a city you will not have problems with the connection but traveling around can be weak or intermittent in a few places off the beaten path.

Happy Travels!

Can I make phone calls and send messages with my Holafly eSIM?

The Morocco eSIM only allows you to use mobile data. It does not include a local phone number for mobile calls or messages. You can still make calls using apps like WhatsApp.

Which devices work with the eSIM card?

You can check if your smartphone is eSIM compatible here.

When will I receive my eSIM?

Can I keep my WhatsApp number?

You don’t need to do anything to keep your WhatsApp number. You’ll automatically keep your number, contacts and conversations.

How quick is the Holafly eSIM?

The Holafly eSIM offers maximum speed coverage (3G/4G/LTE). But bear in mind that in some areas of limited coverage there may be a lower speed connection.

Do I have to activate data roaming on my device?

Yes. To ensure that your eSIM gets the best coverage, you must turn on data roaming on your mobile settings. This will not incur any additional charges, as long as you have already set up the Holafly eSIM.

What do I do if I delete or lose my eSIM’s QR code?

If you cannot find the code, please contact our 24/7 customer support team at [email protected] or our online chat function. We will resend the code to your email.

Could the internet speed with my Holafly eSIM be reduced?

In a rare scenario, yes. Operators enforce an international measure called Fair Usage Policy to ensure fair internet usage and allow all users to enjoy optimal connection. This measure might be applied for a period of no more than one (1) day. It’s beyond Holafly’s control, but don’t worry! If this measure affects you, the restriction will be lifted the next day, and you’ll have your original plan speed back.

Can I renew or extend the data on my eSIM?

Yes, you can do so by logging into your HolaflyCenter on the Holafly website. You will find the data plans you can purchase there. Once you’ve made your purchase, it will be activated immediately on the eSIM you have linked.

Can I share data with other devices?

No, the Morocco eSIM does not allow you to share data or use a hotspot with other devices.

How do I set up the eSIM on my device?

After your purchase, we will send a QR code to your email. Either print the QR code or open it on your computer. On yor cell phone, go to Settings > Mobile Data > Add Data Plan and scan the QR code. Your phone will allow you to assign a specific name to this data plan. You will now be able to switch between your Holafly data plan and the original plan from your provider. The Holafly data plan will only be operational once you arrive at your destination. Once you land, turn on data roaming on your cell phone settings and activate the Holafly data plan. Consult your phone’s user manual for more details on adding a data plan. All eSIM products come with comprehensive set-up instructions.

When should I set up my eSIM?

Set up your eSIM before your departure. Once you reach your destination, just activate the data plan and turn on data roaming. We recommend you print the QR code and take it with you on your vacation just in case. Remember that you need internet access to activate the eSIM. Set up is quick and you will be able to enjoy your data plan right away.

How can I check my data balance?

You can manage your eSIMs and access all purchased data plans by logging into your Holafly Center through the Holafly website.

How many times can I use my eSIM card?

If needed or when changing phones during your trip, you can transfer your eSIM. However, note that you can only transfer the eSIM to two devices—the original one and a new one. Once you’ve installed it on a different device than the original, you won’t be able to reinstall it on the original device and you must deliver the eSIM from the original device to install it in the second device.

Can I delete the Holafly eSIM once I’ve used my data?

Yes! But keep in mind that you don’t need to do so. As soon as your plan expires your eSIM will no longer work.

Can I use my SIM card and Holafly eSIM at the same time?

If you are using an Apple device, you can use your SIM card and your eSim at the same time. Choose the Sim card for phone calls and SMS, and Holafly eSIM for data from your device. Please remember that if you leave your Sim card activated, your network provider may apply data roaming charges to receive or make phone calls as well as SMS.

Getting Sim Card and Internet In Morocco

As a traveler, getting a sim card and internet access after landing in a new country, is very important. In this post, we will see the three telecom companies present in Morocco and useful advice about a Moroccan sim card, getting mobile data, Moroccan telecom operators’ services, and some places where to get free wifi.

There are three telecom operators in Morocco and their coverage is present in all of Morocco with some slight differences depending on the areas you are in especially outside cities . In general, no coverage problems in cities .

The three Moroccan Telecom Companies are:

morocco travel sim

  • Maroc Telecom and you may need some useful Maroc Telecom numbers available to you as a landline, Internet, or mobile customer.
  • Orange and for any assistance inquiry, you can check the Orange assistance web page according to your needs.
  • Inwi and you have all their contact info on the Inwi contact page .

Best Moroccan Operator Coverage

Maroc Telecom is the oldest and the biggest telecom company in the country and you won’t have trouble with your phone signal since it provides reasonable coverage for pretty much most of the areas in Morocco. However, since sim cards are cheap in Morocco, I’d advise you to get also an Orange or Inwi sim card in case you need a second option in the countryside or desert where you may have a weak signal in some areas.

Where to buy Sim Card in Morocco ?

Getting a sim card is not a big issue and you can get it wherever you are in the city at the telecom operators’ agencies or even at the small grocery shops where you can also recharge it and you can usually get 1GB for just 1$.

You can also get a sim card for free upon your arrival at the airport in Morocco as most Moroccan airports have free sim booths where they give them for free.

In case you need just mobile internet, you do not need a Moroccan sim card and you can use famous apps such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, or Skype for internet phone calls over wifi.

Internet in Morocco

The three Moroccan telecom operators are internet providers and offer contract and no-contract internet plans.

No-contract internet plans:

The three operators offer no-contract plans and you need just to buy from them a router with a sim card and then you will get wifi at your place with a monthly payment.

Contract internet plans:

You can also have a modem for wifi with a contract. In this case, the modem price usually becomes cheaper or for free. If you are willing to live in the same place for a long period, it’s better to have internet with a landline contract plan over the optical fiber if the installation of this technology is already available in your neighborhood. ADSL internet with a landline contract plan could be your second option if you can’t have the Optical fiber at your place.

For more information, you can go to the telecom operators agencies nearby.

Where can I get free wifi in Morocco?

Other tips:, how to call morocco from abroad.

To call Morocco from abroad, you type “ 00 ” or ” + ”  + The code of Morocco (212) + The phone number without the first 0.

For example, if I want to call this Moroccan number: 06xxxxxxxx  I will type  002126xxxxxxxx  or +2126xxxxxxxx .

How to call from Morocco abroad?

To call any country from Morocco, you type in the following order: “ 00 ” or “ + ” + The country code + Area/City code (if any) + Phone number.

Best Morocco eSIMs to Stay Connected While Traveling

Need an eSIM in Morocco to keep you connected while you are traveling?

There is nothing worse than no mobile data while roaming in a country like Morocco. And a Morocco eSIM is a lifesaver when it comes to affordable mobile data.

At A Glance: Best eSIM for Morocco

  • Cheapest Morocco eSIM Holafly
  • Biggest ESIM Packages Maya Mobile

But, which is the best eSIM for Morocco? That is what I am here to help with. Join me as I run through the best providers for a Morocco eSIM available and their plans so you can find the right plan for you.

ESIM Product Comparison

Holafly is another of the top Morocco eSIM providers and they are well known for their unlimited data plans that come with many of their eSim cards.

Sadly, you won’t find any unlimited eSim cards for your trip to Morocco from Holalfy but they do have the most affordable eSim cards for you to choose from, see below.

  • 2.5GB/5-days/$27
  • 3.5GB/7-days/$34
  • 5GB/10-days/$37
  • 7.5GB/15-days/$47

It pays to know that all Morocco eSIMs are expensive. I have not seen a country to compare with the EIM prices I have seen here. So, be prepared to pay a lot for data. And these ESIMs are the most affordable on this list.

As you can see, these eSim cards are rather expensive per GB but get more affordable if you go for the 7.5GB/15-day option. At least you can find an eSim card to match your trip length and data needs for your trip to Morocco.

  • Reliable coverage
  • Solid speeds
  • Lots of plans to choose from
  • Match plans to trip length/data needs
  • Easy set-up
  • No data sharing via hotspot
  • A little expensive
  • No longer-term plans

Airalo is one of the top Morocco eSIM providers and is worth considering from the outset.

No matter where in the world you are traveling, Airalo will provide great coverage, the fastest connections available, and great customer service.

When it comes to Morocco, Airalo only has one eSIM data package to choose from and it is called Choukran. Here it is:

  • Choukran – 1GB/7-days/$9.50

As far as eSIM providers go, Airalo is usually one of the best but in this case, they are pretty useless. The one data plan won’t give you much internet access, there are no other plans to match how much data you need, and it is very expensive per GB.

  • Good coverage
  • Reliable speeds
  • Easy to set up
  • Only one plan
  • Not much data
  • No unlimited data package
  • Not very affordable

Another eSIM provider for Morocco that you can compare is the one package from aloSIM.

They offer only one eSIM for Morocco and here are the details:

So a little more expensive than Airalo and a tad cheaper than Maya.

They also use the Orange network, so there is no big advantage there either.

  • Reasonable price
  • Only 1 ESIM

Maya Mobile

In my opinion, Maya usually has some of the best eSIMs you can get. Unfortunately, they are expensive Morocco EIMs.

If you just want 1 GB, go with Airalo as they are cheaper at $9,5.

Before we dive deeper, here are their prepaid Morocco eSIM data plans:

  • 500 MB: $17 USD
  • 1 GB: $37 USD
  • 3 GB: $112 USD
  • 5 GB: $184 USD

Maya offers easy top-ups as well. And, they use Orange Maroc for their eSIMs, which is not the number one provider (Maroc Telecom) but still gets great 4G coverage throughout the country.

  • 4 different plans
  • Good Network

SimOptions is also one of the better eSIM providers for Morocco and they are also an eSim reseller for other eSim providers too. This means you can see eSIMs from a range of different eSim providers for your trip to Morocco.

Sadly, there is just one eSIM plan on SimOptions for Morocco and it is a global eSim that covers most countries in the world, including Morocco. Here is what you get with it:

  • AIS eSIM2FLY Global – 6GB/15-days/$39.90

The price of this eSIM is actually not bad especially when you also get access around the world with it too. It also comes with excellent coverage and great connection speeds too.

  • Coverage across the world
  • Fast connection speeds
  • Price is ok

MTX Connect

MTX Connect is very different from other eSim providers as they do not offer a package for each country. They are one of the only eSim providers, if not the only one, to offer a daily, weekly, 2-weekly, or monthly package for a global eSIM.

Their global eSIM covers most countries in the world, check the coverage out here and comes with excellent connection speeds. Here are the eSIM plans available:

  • Pay As You Go – 0,012 Euro per MB=
  • Daily Max – Unlimited GB/24 hours/EUR 9.95
  • 2GB/7-days/EUR 14.95
  • 4GB/14-days/EUR 24.95
  • 10GB/30-days/EUR 60

These eSIM card options are quite affordable considering that they cover most of the world. You also get free chat for 7 days on Telegram, WhatsApp, WeChat, Viber, and Line so you can keep in touch with home without using your data allowance.

  • Global coverage
  • Daily/weekly/monthly plans
  • Semi-affordable
  • Lots of data available
  • One eSim for every trip
  • Unlimited free chat on WhatsApp etc

GlobaleSIM is another of the reliable eSIM providers you can use when traveling around the globe. They provide excellent coverage, the fastest connection speeds available, and quite a few data plans to choose from.

Actually, when it comes to Morocco, GlobaleSIM has more eSim data plans for you to choose from than most so you can match the data plans to your trip length and data needs.

  • 0.5GB/5-days/$6.90
  • 1GB/7-days/$12.20
  • 2GB/10-days/$18.90
  • 3GB/14-days/$26.70
  • 5GB/21-days/$43.50

As you can see, there are lots of different data plans for you to choose from to match to your trip. But, the price per GB is not so affordable, but that seems to be the case for all the eSim data plans for Morocco.

  • Excellent speeds
  • Lots of data plans to choose from

Benefits of Getting an eSIM in Morocco

The benefits of getting an eSIM in Morocco are huge and are a game-changer when compared to the traditional physical sim cards. What’s the best part? The benefits apply no matter where you travel with your mobile phone!

The convenience factor is unparalleled with eSims. You don’t have to waste time going to a store or waiting in line – buying and activating an eSim is quick and easy online. It’s hassle-free!

What’s more, you’ll be connected as soon as you arrive at your destination. Activate your eSim before your flight, and you’ll have data right away as soon as you touch down. No more searching for a local sim card or waiting around!

You can still keep your original phone number while using an eSim, ensuring you don’t miss any important calls, texts, or banking alerts. Topping up your eSim is also a breeze – just go online and get it done in a snap.

And if your phone gets lost or stolen, transferring your eSim to a new device is a breeze – no stress needed.

Finally, you can say goodbye to the worry of losing your physical sim card. With eSims, you won’t have to swap sim cards, so your eSim will stay safe and sound in your phone. No more frantic searches for a missing sim card!

Local Mobile Operators Offering eSIMs in Morocco

There are a few local mobile operators offering eSIMs in Morocco and these include:

Maroc Telecom: Maroc Telecom is one of the leading mobile operators in Morocco and offers eSim services to its customers. You can easily get an eSim from Maroc Telecom by visiting one of their stores or by ordering online.

Orange Morocco: Orange Morocco is another popular mobile operator in the country that offers eSims. You can buy an eSim from Orange Morocco online or at one of their stores.

Inwi: Inwi is a telecoms operator that offers eSim services to its customers in Morocco. You can get an eSim from Inwi by visiting their website or by visiting one of their stores.

Devices Compatible with eSim in Morocco

An eSim is actually an embedded sim card that’s built into your smartphone, rather than a physical sim that you insert into your device.

If you’re looking to stay connected with an eSim card, it’s important to know that not all mobile devices have this capability.

But the good news is that most new smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches come equipped with eSIMs, so chances are, you may already have one!

Some examples of devices with eSIM capabilities include:

  • iPhone XS, 12, 11, SE (2nd generation), and newer models
  • Samsung Galaxy S21, S20, Note 20, and newer models
  • Google Pixel 5, 4, 3a, and newer models
  • iPad Pro, iPad Air (3rd generation), and newer models
  • Apple Watch Series 6, SE, and newer models
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, Watch Active 2, and newer models
  • Huawei Watch 3 and newer models

If you’re unsure if your device is compatible with an eSim, don’t worry. It’s easy to check – just dial *#06# and hit the call button. If you see an eSim identification number (EID) pop up, then your device can work with an eSim.

Data Needed When Traveling to Morocco

Planning your data usage for your upcoming trip to Morocco can be a bit overwhelming, but don’t worry – I’m here to help!

To start, it’s important to think about your usual data consumption habits. For most people, around 5 GB of data per week is plenty. However, if you’re someone who enjoys streaming videos or making video calls, you may need closer to 15 GB per week.

Running out of data while you’re exploring Morocco is definitely not ideal, so it’s a good idea to check your device’s data usage report to get a better sense of your typical data usage and how much you’ll need for your trip.

It’s worth noting that there aren’t many eSim data plans available in Morocco that offer generous amounts of data at affordable prices. So, it might be a good idea to be mindful of your data usage to avoid any unexpected charges.

Customer Reviews

We spent 3 nights and 4 days touring Morocco. We stayed in Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabaㇳ, Fez, Chaweng, and Casablanca. We had no connection at all except in the center of the city such as Marrakech and Casablanca. Fez and Siawen were no connection at all. I was only able to use 152 MB in total. Too bad.
