Mukutmanipur is a small town in the Bankura district of West Bengal in India . It is adjacent to the dam on the Kangsabati River. This is considered as the second biggest earth dams of India. Mukutmanipur is famous as one of the best picnic spots in West Bengal.

Mukutmanipur - The second biggest earthen Dam of India. Mukutmonipur is 55 km from Bankura and is near the confluence of rivers Kangsabati and Kumari. Green forests surround the vast bluish tract of water. Hillocks are essentially a dream come here. The place is very much famous for its superb natural beauty. The undulating terrain along the southern edge of the Kangsabati Water Reservoir spreads as a three-dimensional necklace of green and terracotta colour. The stand-till water of the reservoir looks like a large blue-tinted glass mirror reflecting the vast expanse of sky over it. The vastness of the lake stretches as far one's eye can reach. The view of the sunset with the lake in the foreground is breath-taking. One must also experience the moonlit night around the reservoir. The surface of the static water turns into a shiny silvery plate gifted by God.

Jhilimili is situated around 15 km away from Mukutmanipur. A travel from Ranibandh to Jhilimili offers a wonderful exposure to spectacular forest of varying heights on both sides on the route, and finally reaching Jhilimili mounted on the top of a hillock is a great experience. The sparkle of micaceous soil adds to the beauty of the environment.

Trains are available from Kolkata to the nearest railhead Bankura . Regular buses are available from Bankura to Mukutmanipur - distance 55 km. Regular buses are also available from Kolkata, a distance 250 km. Hotels can also arrange for cars.

By car [ edit ]

You can also drive down from Kolkata to Mukutmanipur easily. It will take approximately 6 hours. There are two routes. The shorter one (241 km)is Kolkata > Tarakeswar > Arambag > Bishnupur > Bankura > Mukutmanipur. The second possible route (270 km) is Kolkata > Dankuni > Bardhaman > Durgapur (till here NH 19) > Bankura (SH 9)> Mukutmanipur. The second route is recommended because of the excellent road condition in spite of the additional 30 km.

Kangsabati Dam , the second-largest earthen dam in India seeks attention for its vast water body and the way it whispers with the enchanting nature. The dam is 11 kilometers in length and was built under the administration of the then Bengal’s Chief Minister, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. Musafirana Viewpoint

Have you ever seen a moonrise standing on the top of a hillock, pareshnath shiv mandir.

Pareshnath Shiv Mandir  is an open temple of Mahadev as well as a holy place for local people. During the construction of the dam, the idol was found by digging the Earth and it is considered to be an evidence of Jain culture. You may see many stone idols there and people strongly believe that some of the idols were Jain deities. Many people come here to celebrate  ‘Maha Shivratri’  festival. You will get the best view of mesmerising Sunset from here. The setting sun starts sinking beneath the horizon slowly. When the fiery ball comes down half into the water, its reflection in the dam made it look complete and creates a brilliant view. The clouds glow with orange hue and tweeting birds fly the nest across the sky. Make a moment for a lifetime.

Bonpukuria Deer Park  is a perfect place for family outing as well. You will feel the nature murmuring here and the deer will come to welcome you with the astonished eye for sure. Towards Bonpukuria, there is a road where the trees made an arch like structure covering the road. Strange green sun-rays come through the canopy of branches and make a majestic painting of light and shadow on the road. Arrange a picnic and enjoy to the fullest in Bonpukuria village. Explore the Bonpukuria village and see tribal paintings on huts.

Noadihi- Baroghutu Sunset Point

Noadihi  is a place after Baroghutu. To come this place you have to follow the road towards Peerless Resort then take a diversion to Baroghutu. After crossing baroghutu you will reach Noadihi. Recently Govt. of West Bengal are making an accommodation which is still under construction. This is place with ultimate silence to recharge your soul. You will hear chirps of several birds with the beautiful sunset experience.

Masak Hill is situated within 2 km of Khatra. Papra Village is situated on the lap of Masak hill. Regarding the nomenclature, it is thought that a large number of mosquitoes prevailed in the bushes of masak hill, hence from 'Masa'(Mosquito) the name Masak came. To go topmost position footwalk odf 1km is necessary. From the top the whole khatra town can be seen.

Mahamaya Mandir

Folk songs, dances, cultural functions and different types of local artifacts will surely blow your mind. Taste the aroma of a tribal fair and live in a different culture for sometime. Tusu  is a famous harvest festival celebrated by the local people of Mukutmanipur on  the last day of ‘Poush’ . During the winter (January- February), witness a ritual that is dedicated to the ‘Folk Goddess, Tusu’. The worshippers pray to the goddess for overwhelming wealth and happiness of their household. The lyrics of the folk songs related to this festival are quite different and you are going to love the melody of ‘Santhal’ and ‘Kurmis’. Don’t miss the  ‘Cockfighting’  which is arranged by the villagers during Tusu festival. As the last day of ‘Poush’ is called Makar Sankranti, people from ‘Santhal’ community celebrate  ‘Makar Parab’  during this time. People enjoy their gala days with meat, rice brew and fowl. A home-made drink named ‘Hanriah’ and dance on Dhamsa Madal’s beats add extra charm to their festivity. Karam festival  is celebrated on  ‘Bhadra Ekadashi’  and is mainly arranged for perfect cultivation and happiness of children. During this celebration, only one branch of a Karam tree is being separated from the tree and unmarried girls worship the branch. Bandna(Saharai)  is another popular tribal festival celebrated on the sacred day of  Kartik Amavasya in the month of November . Villagers give huge importance to their pets as well as animals and they performed the puja mainly for them. People wash their cows and bulls, feed them well, decorate them with ornaments and natural colors. They sing ‘Ohira’ to acknowledge the contribution of the animals in their lives. Celebrating the Saharai festival, Santhal people show their gratitude to ‘Ma Bhagabati’ for golden-yellow paddy fields. Raicharan Mela  usually held in February, is one of the attractions of Mukutmanipur. The mela is named upon a freedom fighter named Raicharan Dhabal Deb who committed suicide instead of giving in himself to the British rulers. People celebrates Raicharan mela to recall his dedication towards the country. Folk culture, local artifacts, handcrafted items and fun-loving people turn the mela into a festivity every year. Palash Utsab  is the festival of colors. You will understand how it feels exactly to play ‘Holi’ with Nature itself. Spring comes here with blooming Palash. Mukutmanipur proudly celebrates Palash utsab or Holi  in Spring . Kangsabati dam:.

Mukutmanipur Dam is built in 1956 on the Kangsabati river. is second largest earthen dam of India, also this is the most scenic dam in West Bengal. You may take a boat ride on dam, when you ride on the boat you will see a scenic natural view, and the dam looks much beautiful during sunset time, In one sentence this dam is a very beautiful for natural view. The boat ride will take you to Deer Park and then Pareshnath temple. <<Map>>

Musafirana Viewpoint:

Musafirana view point is considered to be the highest point of Mukutmanipur. This view point is situated just near the dam and the view of the dam from this point is very beautiful. And also there is a beautiful park, this park has many trees and flowering plants, and park ticket price is Rs: 10/- <<Map>>

The deer park is situated in the middle of the Mukutmanipur dam, this deer park name is Bankupuria deer park. You can take a boat ride to reach the other side of the dam. From there you can hire a motor rickshaw or either walk to cover the distance of 2-2.5 km, the road condition is very bad. And there is no park cost but the van takes around Rs 100/- for 5 persons.

In the park there are as many as 40 deer present but you can see highly 5-6 deer in the park. The rich green climate adds to the natural beauty of the place. Pareshnath Shiv Mandir:

This Pareshnath temple is situated on the hill top beside the Dam. To reach Pareshnath temple you have to climb up some steps from the dam barrage. Noadihi-Baroghutu Sunset Point:

Noadihi sunset point is the very beautiful sunset point that situated near Mukutmanipur Dam. To get to Noadihi you have to take the Baroghutu beside the Peerless Resort, just after cross the Baroghutu you will reach Noadihi. Recently West Bengal government has started to construct an accommodation there for tourists. Baroghutu sunset point not in google map, you ask the local people where this place.

Best Time To Visit:

In Mukutmanipur the season of summer starts from April and till June. This time the temperature can be as high as 45 degrees Celsius. It is not a best time to visit Mukutmanipur during the summers. Heat temperature and other summer-related issues can appear.

The season of monsoon starts from July and till September. This time due to the rainy season, issues related to humidity and also transportation.

Most people prefer to drive down to this serene village located in the famous Bankura district of West Bengal . Ambikanagar Temple

Ambikanagar Temple is located in Ambikanagar village about 5 km from Mukutmanipur. Here Maa Ambika, who is a reincarnation of Goddess Durga is worshipped. It is as old as 700 years. The village is situated at the confluence of Kanshai and Kumari Rivers and the temple is located on the banks. Ma Ambika is held in reverence by the locals and also attracts tourists from all over the region and the state. The Goddess is worshipped daily and people are treated to ‘Khichuri’ bhog each day. Pareshnath Shiv Mandir

Pareshnath Shiv Temple is the abode of Lord Shiva situated on a hillock, close to the Musafirana viewpoint. It is a very ancient temple.
