20-35s CRUISES

5-day cruise dubrovnik to split.

Official check-in is from 5pm onwards but you can arrive to the boat earlier, leave your bags onboard and choose from the many activities happening in Dubrovnik that day.

We recommend: (1) Taking a cable car ride up to Mount Srd for the most incredible view imaginable.

(2) Dubrovnik is also the setting for the capital city of Westeros, Kings Landing, in Game of Thrones. If you are a fan, why not take a walking tour of the locations of the most famous scenes in the ultra-popular show and get an overview of the history of Dubrovnik at the same time?

(3)  Take a shuttle boat over to Lokrum Island from the Old City.

Dinner is served onboard at 6.30pm, when you will also be given your welcome speech and be introduced to everybody else on board. The evening is yours to enjoy in the Old City. Overnight on the boat in Dubrovnik (Gruz Port).

Optional excursions: Ziplining and/or Game of Thrones+Dubrovnik Walking Tour.

Korcula to Island Hvar

Hvar is rated as one of the highlights of the trip and it’s not hard to see why. Its quaint harbour is a thing of beauty but you only get to truly appreciate it after climbing up to the fort that overlooks everything in the bay. We arrive after lunch but often we are not able to dock until late afternoon due to port restrictions. We strongly recommend taking a water taxi over to the city to get there earlier (7 Euros per person payable to the onboard representative). Hvar’s nightlife is also legendary and nothing beats catching the sunset at Hula Hula bar, then taking the organised shuttle boat over to Carpe Diem – the famous “club on an island”.

IMPORTANT: Hvar Town’s small port is often overcrowded in peak months (end of Jun to end of Aug) and the port authority may order the boat to dock elsewhere on the island, such as Stari Grad or Jelsa, about 35-40 mins by bus from Hvar Town.

After breakfast (7-8am) it is time to say goodbye to your shipmates and crew. Check-out is by 9am although you can leave earlier if you need to (for early flights, buses etc). The adventure does not need to stop here though as there is the option of an excursion to see the waterfalls of Krka National Park.

Dubrovnik to Korcula

It’s goodbye to Dubrovnik and hello to more incredible scenery as we head to Korcula Island, which is said to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. We are spoilt for choice with swimming spots en route before we dock near the Old City (with the same name as the island). This pocket town is another gem which hosts a street party in the evening at the Deja Vu Bar!

Optional excursion: Wine-tasting

Hvar to Split

Our final, full day starts with a swim stop on the way to the biggest city on the Dalmatian coast: Split. In the afternoon we dock into Split, with enough time to take in some of the inspiring sights of this city, including Diocletian’s Palace, the iconic statue of Gregory of Nin and Bacvice Beach.

Optional excursion: River Rafting

Hvar is rated as one of the highlights of the trip and it’s not hard to see why. We arrive after lunch but often we are not able to dock until late afternoon due to port restrictions. Hvar’s nightlife is also legendary and nothing beats catching the sunset at Hula Hula bar, then taking the organised shuttle boat over to Carpe Diem – the famous “club on an island”.

Navigate the gorgeous coastline of Croatia in both style and comfort on this small-ship-based Split to Dubrovnik, or Dubrovnik to Split cruise. A unique detour in Bosnia and Herzegovina, navigating the spectacular Neretva River and visiting either the waterfalls of Krka National Park (northbound) or the colorful island of Brac (southbound) highlight this adventure cruise route that offers a bit of everything, including nights at port to dine out on your own. Get an authentic taste of what the Dalmatian Coast has to offer on this exciting and varied cruise adventure.

Passage is aboard the 36-guest M/S Aurora , a motor yacht with a purpose-built swimming platform for dips in the Adriatic Sea. Weather permitting, the captain will be stopping the ship for regular swim breaks during the trip. Soak up the sun, sea and salty breeze as you sail through the azure waters of the Adriatic, experiencing impressive islands, meandering rivers, stunning beaches and historic towns. Combine a healthy dose of cuisine and culture with a beautifully designed ship, and you have the perfect way to explore the Croatian coast.

While large cruise liners have to moor out at sea and commute into shore via tender, the Aurora can drop anchor in the middle of port towns like Hvar or Korcula, where you can hop on or off the boat as you please. There are no long days at sea since the distance between islands is short. There are plenty of excursions, short walks and port stops. Opt for visiting the Brac, the longest island in central Dalmatia, on the southbound route, or Krka National Park, where you’ll get to see stunning waterfalls and secluded pools, on the northbound route. Another highlight is a special detour to Mostar, in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It’s not a stop featured on many Croatia cruises. You’ll see the town’s iconic bridge and have the chance to watch a coffee demonstration followed by a sample of this well-loved brew. Drop an anchor in Hvar and indulge in the glitz and glamour of this chic island. And venture up the River Neretva. Wander through the romantic old town of Korcula and enjoy tastings at a local winery, and dock in the stunning walled city of Dubrovnik.

Southbound Split to Dubrovnik Cruise Itinerary

Enjoy 8 days of coastline and island hopping on this southbound Split to Dubrovnik cruise itinerary. The southbound itinerary uniquely includes the island of Brac and a tour of Dubrovnik with a local guide. An extra lunch is also included in the half-board meals.

A red line showing the southbound route of Croatian Coastal Cruising from Split to Dubrovnik

Dobrodosli! Welcome to Split, Croatia. There is so much to see and do in this gorgeous seaside oasis, so it’s recommended you arrive a couple of days early to fully experience this city. Your luggage can be dropped off at the ship from noon, so feel free to explore Split at your leisure before boarding commences at 5 pm, when you’ll meet your fellow travelers for a welcome meeting and safety briefing. This evening, sit down to your first group dinner on board before overnighting in port.

This morning sail to the colorful island of Brac. Along the way, stop for a swim in the glittering ocean and enjoy lunch aboard the boat. When you arrive in Brac, the longest island in central Dalmatia, head to the Skrip Museum. As the oldest settlement on the island, this regional museum is full of fascinating history. After, visit the Olive Oil Museum to explore the history of this cooking staple on the island. Here, you’ll also have the opportunity to taste some local olive oil along with some local produce (and pick up a souvenir, if you fancy). Tonight, enjoy some free time exploring Brac or lounging on the boat.

breakfast, lunch

Set sail for the island of Hvar, enjoying breakfast on board. Stop to swim in the waters of the Adriatic at a secluded beach close to Stari Grad, Hvar’s old town. Arrive in Stari Grad around midday and look across one of Europe’s oldest towns while lunching on board the Aurora. Next, take a bus to explore the island known as the “Queen of the Dalmatian Islands.” Visit a nearby farm and try local produce. Afterwards, drive to Hvar town for an orientation walk, then enjoy free time to explore. Return to Stari Grad and dine at a local restaurant of your choosing. Overnight in Hvar (Stari Grad).

Set sail early towards Opuzen, breakfasting on board and then stopping to swim. Enjoy lunch on board as you sail up the Neretva river towards Opuzen. On arrival, jump into small wooden boats for a leisurely cruise through the surrounding wetlands (with local snacks and music on board). End up at a beautiful local restaurant overlooking the water for Peka veal and other local dishes then board the boats and return to Opuzen. This evening, you may like to venture out to the friendly bars around the town square to meet the locals.

breakfast, lunch, dinner

It’s an early start this morning as you make your way to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina by minibus. Take a tour with a local guide, visiting a coffee shop where you will see how the Bosnian coffee is made followed by a tasting of it. Afterwards enjoy some free time to explore the town and have lunch at your leisure. Return to the ship in the early afternoon and set sail for Trpanj. On arrival, visit the Matusko winery for a wine tasting and tour of the vineyards. Return to the ship to enjoy dinner onboard. Overnight in Trpanj.

Note that Mostar’s position in a river gorge can make it extremely hot. The streets of the old quarter are paved with river rock which can be a bit slippery and tricky to walk on. On this day, please ensure you have good walking shoes, a hat and drink plenty of water.

Optional, added cost activities this day may include visits to the Koski Mehmed Pasa Mosque, War Photo Exhibition, Old Bridge Museum and Koski Mehmed Pasa Mosque & Minaret.

breakfast, dinner

After breakfast on board, enjoy a mid-morning swim stop in beautiful clear turquoise waters of Loviste in the Peljesac peninsula. Return to the ship and set sail for Korcula, the birthplace of Marco Polo, with lunch on the way. This afternoon, join your leader for an orientation of the town followed by a local guide-led tour. This evening you’ll be spoiled for choice with many restaurants overlooking the waterfront; ask your leader for their recommendations. Overnight in the port of Korcula.

Leave early this morning and cruise to Dubrovnik, stopping mid-morning for a swim near the island of Jakljan. Take your lunch on board before arriving in Dubrovnik in the early afternoon where you’ll join a local guide to explore this beautiful walled city. Hear It from Travelers Who Have Explored with Us

Overall a really fun trip & beautiful country. Was a good balance of relaxing/swimming and trips/hikes. We had one of the best groups of people aboard. Everyone meshed really well. And our guides were one of our favorite things about the cruise.

Croatia was a beautiful country. Overall a really fun trip. Was a good balance of relaxing/swimming and trips/hikes. Very hot this time of year which might not suit everyone. The Croatian people were very nice and you felt safe wherever we went.

Accommodations Review

Rooms were nice. Shower was decently big and water was hot.

Meals Review

Food was overall very good. Lunch portions could be smaller.  Don’t necessarily need 3 courses (including dessert) for lunch.

Itinerary Review

Safari boat ride in Opuzen to restaurant was a pleasant and fun surprise. Mostar bridge was awesome to see. Trpanj and Matusko wine tasting was fun. Didn’t really have any places I didn’t like. Some people complained about the end of the trip having basically 2 days in Split but wasn’t a huge deal to me.

Transportation Review

Transport to and from the airport was on time and safe.

Crew & Guides Review

Ziggi our main guide was excellent. Very personable and informative. He had a great sense of humor and kept the trip fun. Andro the second guide was also very good. He had a lot of knowledge on the areas we visited and was very active with us in all the excursions. He made a point to make sure no one felt left out. Together they were a very strong guide team and one of our favorite things about the cruise. The local guide in Korcula was especially funny and informative too.

Fellow Passengers Review

This was one of the best groups of people. Everyone meshed really well. At least half of the passengers were repeat Intrepid travelers. I think that speaks well for their business model.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

Kevin Marshall did a great job keeping us informed and answering any and all questions promptly.

Day 2: SPLIT – TROGIR – KRKA NATIONAL PARK, Sunday (B, L, D)

Enjoy breakfast as we sail to UNESCO-protected Trogir. This museum-town is literally packed with palaces, churches, monasteries and towers, the main attraction being the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, probably the finest example of sacral architecture in Croatia. Along the way there will be time for a swim stop in a secluded cove. Late morning arrival to Trogir and time on your own. Lunch will be served on board while in port. After lunch, we will board a bus to take us to the National Park Krka. Krka is one of Croatia’s most famous and picturesque national parks. The waterfalls and crystal clear waters are most impressive making this stop a client favorite. Then, we’ll head to a small village to the home of a local prosciutto maker. Enjoy a delicious home-cooked dinner in his family home and find out for yourself what the Croatian culture is all about.

Overnight in Trogir.

Home-hosted meal with drinks

Day 3: TROGIR – VIS, Monday (B, L)

In the morning we set sail towards the island of Vis. With lunch on board and a swim stop along the way, we arrive in Vis in the early afternoon. Vis was once an important Yugoslav naval base and was closed to the public for years. Due to this isolation, Vis has a unique charm that feels like you’re stepping into a faraway time, making it one of our favorite stops. Here, you are in for a real treat with an optional visit a unique winery with a fascinating story and location. Their wines are top quality and some of the best in Croatia. In town, feel free to explore Vis at your leisure. We recommend visiting the Archaeological Museum located in the old Austrian fort Gospina Batarija (Batteria della Madonna). Dinner on your own in one of Vis Town’s charming restaurants.

Overnight in Vis.

Optional wine tasting

Day 4: VIS – BIŠEVO(BLUE CAVE) – HVAR, Tuesday (B, L,)

Our sail begins early in the morning toward the Blue Cave*. This natural phenomenon is one of the highlights of the entire week and you’ll find out for yourself why! (entrances to be paid on the spot – approx. €18) After the Blue Cave, breakfast will be served on board. We’ll have a swim stop and continue to Croatia’s sunniest island. Hvar is known as a “yachter’s paradise”. Arrive in the afternoon and explore the town’s historical center which includes the Renaissance cathedral with its original tower, and the oldest community theatre in Europe founded in the 17th century. Hike up to the Spanish Fortress which overlooks the harbor for lovely scenic views of the yacht-filled marina and the Pakleni islands. In the evening, Hvar offers many great restaurants, cafes, and bars with many open late into the night.

Overnight in Hvar Town.

*Please note that the Blue Cave is only accessible with small boats through an entrance just 1.5m high so it is unfortunately easily made inaccessible by bad weather and high waves.

Day 5: HVAR – KORČULA, Wednesday (B, L)

This morning, we continue to Korčula, stopping for a swim in the gorgeous turquoise water and lunch along the way. Upon arrival in Korčula, enjoy a guided walking tour and explore the narrow cobblestone streets of this well preserved medieval town that is thought to be the birthplace of the world-famous explorer, Marco Polo. Afterwards, continue discovering all the little nooks and crannies of Korčula, and enjoy dinner in one of the town’s charming local restaurants.

Overnight in Korčula.

Day 6: KORČULA – SLANO, Thursday (B, L, T, CD)

In the morning, we set sail early for Slano. Along the way, enjoy a swim stop and lunch onboard. In Slano, be prepared to sample the local delicacy: oysters! We’ll visit Ston, known for its Medieval walls and oyster farming tradition that spans over two thousand years. From there, we’ll take a short boat ride to the oyster farm in the middle of the bay to taste these delicacies straight from the sea. Accompanied by a glass of Croatian wine, of course. Return to Slano for our Captain’s Dinner with live entertainment onboard.

After the guided walking tour of the Old Town, you have the rest of the day to experience Dubrovnik for yourself. When you’ve soaked up all of Dubrovnik’s warm and welcoming atmosphere that you can handle, our ship will be docked at Gruż Harbour. There are plenty of taxis, buses, and Ubers to bring you back.

Croatian Coastal Cruising: Dubrovnik to Split (Aurora)

8 days | discover the glittering dalmatian coast aboard the aurora.

Krka National Park waterfalls

Croatia’s Dalmatian coast is home to plenty of impressive beaches – we’re talking the official second cleanest in Europe. Imagine the sun warming you while you lean over the side of a boat – just peacefully watching the clear water wash against limestone cliffs and pebbly shores as you pass on by. This eight day cruise offers plenty of that idle relaxation, broken up with exciting activities like a river cruise and a walk to the waterfalls of the the Krka National Park or expeditions like a winery trip near romantic Korcula to for those who find relaxation at the bottom of a wine glass. Get a taste of what the Dalmatian Coast has to offer on this exciting and varied cruise adventure.

Trip overview

Map of Croatian Coastal Cruising: Dubrovnik To Split (Aurora) including Bosnia And Herzegovina and Croatia

  • Board a traditional vessel and sail up along the spectacular Neretva River, inland from Opuzen.
  • Discover Krka National Park, where you’ll get to see stunning waterfalls and secluded pools.
  • While large cruise liners have to moor out at sea and commute into shore via tender, you'll drop anchor in the middle of port towns like Hvar or Korcula. You can hop on or off the boat as you please.
  • Dive into the aquamarine waters of the Dalmatian Coast. Weather permitting, our captain will be stopping the ship for regular swim breaks during the trip.
  • Take a detour to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is not a stop featured on many Croatian coastal tours! You’ll see the town’s iconic bridge and have the chance to watch a coffee demonstration.
  • This is a small ship adventure cruise, which means you’ll be sailing on a yacht with up to 35 other people. The boat is spacious and comfortable, but it focuses more on the destination than on-board activities. Instead of a pool, we have the sea itself. Instead of a casino, we’ve got board games and a good book. There’s also no formal dress code to worry about. Wi-Fi is available onboard.
  • Our ship moves under engine power, rather than sailing, so all cabins will experience light engine noise when the ship is moving (and occasionally when we drop anchor). It’s probably worth packing earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.
  • Unlike other ships that cruise through the night, we’ll spend our evenings docked at port. This will give you more time to dine ashore and enjoy those balmy Croatian evenings. Cruising will mostly take place during the day.
  • Onshore activities and excursions will involve a bit of walking. You’ll be visiting ancient sites and historical places, and at times you may have to cross cobbled streets and uneven ground, sometimes in hot conditions. If you have any concerns, please speak to your group leader before taking part.
  • If you’re concerned about seasickness, there are seasickness tablets on-board. The ship will experience some roll and pitch in choppy conditions, however all of our ships come equipped with stabilisers to minimise movement. Most of our departures run in peak season, when the seas are calmer. Your crew will do all they can to minimise any discomfort.
  • There are no lifts (elevators) on-board our ships, so you’ll have to navigate a few steep flights of stairs. Handrails are always available.

Zdravo and welcome to Croatia. Lovely Dubrovnik features the terracotta rooves, ancient cliff-forged walls and crystal coasts that many people associate with Dalmatia. Your adventure begins this evening at 5 pm, when you will be welcomed aboard the Aurora and introduced to your crew and fellow travellers. Enjoy a drink and get to know each other before your first dinner on the ship this evening. Later, perhaps relax with a glass of wine on the deck and take in the incredible sight of waves lapping at rugged cliffs.

  • M/S Aurora (1 night)
  • Complimentary Arrival Transfer

A complimentary arrival transfer is included from Dubrovnik Airport to the Port of Dubrovnik on day one of this trip or from the airport to the hotel if you have booked pre tour accommodation with us. Here you will board a smaller boat for some cruising and exploring within the park. The park spans two thirds of the Krka River, and some 142 square kilometres. You visit some of the gorgeous waterfalls for which this park is renowned. Afterwards, return by bus to Split, in time for a captain's dinner for your evening repast.

Split to Dubrovnik

Embarkationa in Split and disembarkation in Dubrovnik, visiting the ports of Milna (island of Brac), Vis (island of Vis), Hvar (island of Hvar), Korcula (island of Korcula), Island of Mljet National Park, Sipan (island of Sipan) & Lopud.

Day 1. Split to Milna (Brac) Check-in is at 04:00 PM in Stobrec, a small port just 4 km south of Split center. After embarkation you`ll have enough time to make yourself at home and meet the other guests and a crew. Before departure you will be served with a traditional welcome drink. After a short sail we come to Milna where the chef will prepare you a fabulous Croatian dinner, and where you will spend your first night aboard. The pretty, quiet port of Milna is located on the western part of the island of Brac, and is where the Emperor Diocletian moored his fleet during the building of his magnificent palace in Split.

Day 2. Milna to Vis

After breakfast we set sail for Vis, the furthest island of the Dalmatian archipelago. It is especially well known for its cultural and historical heritage, but also for its natural beauty. In his scripts, the Greek writer Agatharchides praised the wines from Vis, saying they were the best he had ever tasted. Their most famous wine is Vugava, which you can try in numerous restaurants and cellars all around the island. Vis was known as 'the forbidden islands' during the communist era, as it was the base for the Yugoslav navy and therefore was forbidden to tourists. Even today there are many hidden tunnels all around the island that testify to that fact. Some of them are tourist attractions now and others are used by the Croatian navy. We will spend the night in the port of Vis.

Day 3. Vis to Hvar

Hvar is a beautiful Dalmatian town with a good nightlife and numerous excellent restaurants specialising in local cuisine (Pasarola, Luna, etc.), as well as exotic specialties (Sushi, Pasta, etc.). The town has become to be known as the St. Tropez of the Adriatic, with many bars and cafés, regularly visited by the rich and famous. The town is also steeped in history, and you can take a visit around its castle ruins and other historic buildings. The night will be spent moored off the Pakleni islands.

Day 4. Hvar to Korcula

We continue our cruise towards the island of Korcula to the famous peninsula town of the same name. The island was inhabited in prehistory, with archaeological finds in Vela Spila representing the first evidence of Palaeolithic ceramic art at the end of the last Ice Age. According to a legend the island was also home to the Trojan hero Antenor in the 12th century BC, who is also known as the founder of Padua in Italy. The island of Korcula has been ruled over by the Greeks, the Illyrians, the Romans and from the 10th century by the Venetians, who have left us the bulk of architecture that you can see in the town today. The town is probably most famous for being the birthplace of Marco Polo, who, it is said, was born there in 1254. Reminders of him can be found in every part of the town, including the extremely interesting museum of Marco Polo. Breakfast and lunch will be served on board and you will spend the night in Korcula harbour. In the evening you can explore the town and enjoy the gastronomic specialties offered in many quality restaurants ashore.

Day 5. Korcula to Mljet National Park

After breakfast we continue our cruise towards Mljet island National Park, where you`ll spend the day exploring, fishing, swimming or sunbathing. After lunch you`ll have a chance to visit the National Park (tickets are not included in the cruise price and are between 10 to 15 EUROS depending on your age). The north-west part of the island was declared a national park in 1960 and today covers the area of 5,375 hectares of protected land plus the surrounding sea. In the center of the park is a lake with a small island with a monastry, still in use today. Cars are not allowed on the island, so the only way to get around is either on foot ot by bike, which you can hire at the park entrances. Kayaks can also be rented for exploring the lake and the monastry. We`re spending the night on in either Polace or Pomena (which port depends on the weather conditions), where you can enjoy the extraordinary gastronomic offers in restaurants ashore. We especially recommend lobster, which you can personally choose before they are cooked. Polace (which means palace) is the site of a Roman villa, of which some vestiges remain.

Day 6. Mljet to Sipan

After breakfast we continue towards the island of Sipan, one of a small group of islands called the Elaphiti Islands, not far from Dubrovnik. Lunch will be served on board, and afternoon will be free to do as you please, whether sightseeing, fishing, swimming or just lying in the sun with a good book and a cold drink. Although it`s only 16 square kilometers, Sipan is the biggest island in the group with two small ports, Sipanska Luka on the west and Sudurad on the east side of the island. It flourished during the Dubrovnik Republic, a period when the most important commerce was shipbuilding, shipping, olive growing, fishing and wine growing. Today, on this small area, there are 42 old summer residences and 34 churches; proof that this oasis of peace and beauty was recognized as a place of relaxation by Dubrovniks' high society. The imposing castle of the family of Vice Stjepovic-Skocibuha is currently being renovated and should be open for visits by the 2015 season. As well as many other Renaissance features, the castle has the only preserved wooden balcony in the Mediterranean from the 16th century.

Day 7. Sipan to Lopud

After breakfast we continue our cruise towards Lopud, another island in the Elaphiti group 5 km north-west from Dubrovnik. Again you'll be spending the day exploring, fishing, swimming or sunbathing. We`ll be anchored all day on the south-east side of the island in a beautiful cove Sunj, just off one of the most beautiful sandy beaches of the Adriatic. In the evening, after a long day filled with sunsoaked pleasures, we`ll start towards our final destination - Zaton Veliki.

Day 8. Zaton Veliki (near Dubrovnik)

Our last breakfast together will be served on board, after which we have to say goodbye to this fabulous gulet, the crew and, hopefully, new friends that you have acquainted in the last 7 days. Check-out is by 9:00 AM. If you can, we recommend staying an extra day in Dubrovnik, so you can make the most of its magnificent city, known as the 'Pearl of Adriatic' for good reason. It is included in 10 most favourable and most beautiful tourist destinations in the world, and according to some it`s number one! A place you have to visit at least once in a lifetime, and when you do you`ll be sure to come back again! It is one of the most important historical and tourist centres of Croatia which was included in UNESCO`s World Heritage List in 1979. The prosperity of the town was always based on maritime trade and in the Middle Ages, when it was known as the Dubrovnik Republic, it was the only city-state on the east Adriatic coast that could compete with the Venetian Republic. Through trade and diplomacy the city achieved an extraordinary level of development, especially during the 15th and the 16th century. Although it received some damage in the 1990's Balkans conflict, all of the buildings have now been restored to their original glory and continues to attract a huge number of tourists every year. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival of traditional music, theatre and dance is the most important cultural event in the town, which takes place each day in the ancient flag stoned streets from the 10th July to the 25th August.
