I didn't receive my order but the customer service was great.

I didn't receive my order. I was quite disappointed because I've waited for two weeks. The shipping info was not updated. However, the customer service was very good. I got replies usually within 24 hours. After I sent in the video of missing order as a proof that the bag wasn't shipped to me (I got the raincoat but not the bag), Nordace immediately sent me a new bag, which I received in 7 days. The 4 stars was given to encourage the customer service.

Amazing customer service

The zip tag came off my bag and the after sales care and support from the Nordace customer service team has been nothing short of first class. They have been so attentive and courteous, and my bag has been replaced!

Good service, bag quite good

Good service. The cross-body bag I bought is nice but smaller than expected. Fabric is strong but quite coarse to touch. No clue as to the purpose of the mysterious steel pin attached. Perhaps a phone SIM remover? It’s a useful bag but not perfectly designed, and too small to travel with as a hand bag as can’t fit anything much in it after wallet, specs and phone.

Great bag and even better Customer Service !

Purchased the Gisborne Crossbody Bag in February, finally after trying about 10 different bags from other companys found the one that works for me. Has a lot of options as really its like 3 bags in one with the smaller attachment and two different straps. I was actually quite sad when the stopper on the zipper broken and fell off, wasn't able to actually close it properly. I reached out to Customer Service and they quickly replaced the bag, they really stand behind their products. Thank you, will definitely be thinking about Nordace when I am looking for a new bag or backpack.

Brilliant product, average delivery

Brilliant product, super high quality and love it. Ordering was easy, however delivery was not brilliant - I had no communication about when it was arriving, how long it would take, which wasn't great. Would still recommend as the product is great.

Best for travele

I already used it several times, it's very comfortable, well organized, end light. For small travels it's the best choice, for longer ones I'm going to try it out this summer.

I love their bags

I have already been rocking their Siena backpack for years (5 years maybe?) as a bag for work. So when two of my other bags broke, I knew exactly where to go. I've reached a point in my life where I don't feel like replacing my stuff every year anymore and prefer investing in stuff that will last. The bags of Nordace do just that. Their bags are great quality and there's a lot to choose from. I feel like they have the right gear for everyone. Ordering is a piece of cake and communication about the order is clear. I haven't had any problems, so I can't say anything else about the customer service. Definitely recommend!

Efficient service if not a bit…

Efficient service if not a bit impersonal. I’d reached out for a group discount but didn’t receive any communication back. The bags are excellent and very well made.

Good negotiation for cancel request

For a cancel request,it's a good experience for me. I'm suprised, the Customer Care Team communicates with me patiently. Good product,Good service.

Well impressed with Product

Good description and demonstrations online on how to pack and use Backpack to best advantage. Regular updates on delivery progress. Backpack and inner bags arrived intact and were exactly as described. I have yet to use mine, bought as a sensible solution after hassles experienced this year. Next years holiday I will be well prepared and organised ( have done a dummy packing run and was very pleased with all aspects of product), thank you.

Looks great but don’t try to fill it up

Really quick delivery & service. The bag looks great and has lots of great features. I’m happy with the quality, colour and size. Was a little disappointed it was quite uncomfortable to wear when full, so ended up removing my laptop to reduce the weight and carrying that separately. The boxy shape looks smart and clean but it does mean it’s a brick when full and doesn’t sit well against your back. As a carry on it will be great, but don’t try to use as an overnight bag and pack it full as you will struggle to use the slim front pockets once the main compartment is full, as well as it being an uncomfortable carry when heavy.

Date of experience : April 12, 2024

Please don't buy if you looking for comfort and space

Bag wasn't spacious enough, and the backpack handles strap weren't padded so it's been hard to carry and it wasn't fixed so thr whole strap has been moving around . Serious not worth the money and I regret this purchase

I am pleased that Nordace stands behind…

I am pleased that Nordace stands behind its backpacks. In a 4 month old backpack, the lining at the top was ripping at the seam. They replaced it. I appreciate the size and many compartments, allowing ease with European travel.

Ordering, delivery easy and on time. Packing and using the backpack a breeze. Love the multitude of pockets, packing cubes and style. First outing to Budapest for 4 days worked brilliantly! Love it!

Great quality and practicality

Great quality and practicality. Can’t wait to try it. My husband is so impressed that he’s going to order one for our holidays too. Delivery could have been a bit quicker though so order in plenty of time.

If they would only make a catwalk for…

If they would only make a catwalk for bags… this one would take the spotlight. Wow- not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye but comfortable and functional. This one has pockets on top of pockets and a double zipper which I love. I loved mine so much that I keep talking about it to colleagues who are also buying theirs now. No more back pain bc I am carrying a laptop on my shoulder. Honestly I wish I would have found it sooner. Best purchase ever.

Excellent service with quick delivery

Excellent service with quick delivery. Bag is great quality. Good value and great choice of colours.

I love the bag - but no user manual enclosed which I need for using the phone charger.

I love the bag, really great for travel. Only thing though is I don't know how to use the electric charger - it says on the label to refer to the user manual but no such manual was enclosed. I haven't had chance to contact Nordace yet to request this but if someone could send this to me it would be most appreciated.

Hello Tom, Regarding your request, you can find into our store, on the product page, a short video that will explain how the charging feature works. https://nordace.com/en/product/nordace-siena-ii-smart-backpack/ Our colleagues from our Customer Care Department have sent to you an email on this matter. Dirty old handbag!

The backpack is fine, but the handbag is horrible: I ordered the ecru one and it got immediately very dirty. I don’t work in a coal mine, but my bag tells me otherwise. Even after day 1 of using it. I tried to clean it, like they said: sponge it off. It even got worse! Update: it is quite clear Nordace does not read bad reviews: I wrote that it is a handbag and I already tried cleaning. So customer service: sub zero! And I removed one star so it is now a one stra review

Hello Katrien, We apologize for the situation you have encountered. Regarding your concern, for product cleaning we recommend to avoid the washing machine as it might damage the backpack's shape and features.  We advise sponge on spot only.  You can have a look at our Cleaning Guideline, by accessing the link below: https://nordace.com/cleaning-guideline/ All the best, Nordace Team

Nordace Siena Smart Backpack Review – Is It Worth Buying?

02/21/2024 by Guest Blogger Leave a Comment

This is a guest post by Christen Thomas .

Finding the perfect backpack to complement your luggage can be challenging. If you are like me, you are looking for a backpack that can function both as a weekend bag and an excellent under the seat bag for those longer flights . I’ve personally found that the Nordace Siena Backpack meets both of those needs – and more! I’ve been using this backpack as my primary travel bag for over a year, and it has become my go-to.

In this Nordace Siena Smart Backpack review, I’ll provide information on the features and specs of the backpack, pros and cons, and answer some FAQs to help you decide if this is the best travel backpack for you:

Table of Contents

Nordace Company Background

nordace travel backpack review

The company was founded in 2018 when its founder decided it was time to fill a gap in the market: a stylish functional backpack. The Nordace Siena Smart Backpack was their first product, and was released the following year to great success. As of 2023, the company has sold over 1 million Siena backpacks!

Nordace Products

nordace siena backpack review

Since the company’s launch, they have released many new travel backpacks, luggage, and accessories. Here is a quick look at some of the additional products that they sell:

  • Backpacks : In addition to their Smart backpack collection, they also have backpacks catered to business users, school, baby bags, and also outdoor backpacks. Looking for something smaller than the Siena? Check out the Nordace Aerial Infinity Mini Backpack
  • Luggage : Consider Nordace as an expert in “soft luggage”. They carry a variety of duffel bags , cross body bags , and totes.
  • Accessories : The range of accessories that they carry has expanded greatly – they essentially carry anything you need for a trip outside of hardbody luggage or roller bags. Some examples include: packing cubes , toiletry bags, luggage scales, travel umbrellas, travel wallets, and microfiber towels.

So as you can see, if you ever need to start from scratch with your travel bags and accessories, Nordace will certainly have you covered. I’ll note, I own their travel adaptor , compression packing cubes , and toiletry bag , and have found them to be of good quality – not to mention perfect fit for the backpack too.

Nordace Siena Smart Backpack Overview

nordace travel backpack review

This backpack definitely has some features that make it stand out from other travel backpacks on the market. I’ll walk you through these – particularly those that really stood out to me when I was deciding which backpack that I wanted to purchase.

Key Features

nordace travel backpack review

The Nordace Siena Smart Backpack comes with features that I think cater to the needs of travelers and those who simply need a solid day pack as well.

Some of the stand out features that this backpack offers include:

  • Material: I’ve found the bag’s shell to be quite soft to the touch. However, its frosted nylon material makes this bag both durable and resistant to water.
  • Organization: The bag comes with a variety of compartments and pockets designed to securely stow everything away – no more digging for your keys or passport when you need to find them quickly.
  • Charging Support: The Nordace Siena backpack has a built-in USB charging port, which sets this backpack apart from competitors.
  • Comfort:  I think it’s easy to tell that the Siena is made for comfort with its padded, adjustable straps and breathable back panel.

Additionally, it’s designed to be stylish and its design allows it to keep its shape whether it is empty or full (making it easy to stow and pack!).

Size, Dimensions, Colors, and Varieties

nordace travel backpack review

When I purchase backpacks I pay close attention to size / dimensions as I’m a short person (under 5″) – particularly when buying online. I think this can be an important factor whether you are tall, short, or average, and/or if your torso is of a longer or shorter size.

Size & Dimensions

The size of this bag makes it suitable as a “personal item”, meaning it will fit under the seat (and in the overhead bin) with no issues.

  • Exterior: 16.54” x 11.4” x 6.3”
  • Laptop Compartment: Fits laptop up to 16″
  • Water Bottle Volume : 1000 ml
  • Weight: 0.88 lbs
  • Capacity: 19L

This backpack comes in 9 colors – some are more neutral, but even the more color varieties are in a bit more muted tone. Available colors include:

  • Aqua (light blue)

For reference, I own the blue version, so you can see how it looks in the pictures shown in this post.

nordace tote and crossbody

Since the launch of the original backpack, there have been a few additional varieties of the Siena Smart Backpack that have been released. This has resulted in some changes to the style and some size varieties as well.

Below is a list of all the current smart backpacks that are available:

  • Nordace Siena II Smart Backpack : This bag differs from the original in that the capacity is increased from 19L to 22L. In addition, there is an adaptor for Type-C, Lightning, and Micro-USB for the charging port.
  • Nordace Siena Pro Backpacks : These backpacks come in three sizes: 13″, 15″, and 17″ (note the inches correspond to the size of the laptop slot). While the 13″ is smaller than the original (15L capacity), the 15″ and the 17″ both offer greater capacity at 20L and 26L.

So as you can see, there are backpacks available to suit your personal size and laptop needs.

My Experience with the Nordace Siena Smart Backpack

nordace travel backpack review

I’ve been using the Siena Smart Backpack for over a year, and have traveled extensively with it. I’ve been impressed with its features and durability, and will provide some additional information on both the pros and the cons of this backpack below.

  • Weight : This bag is only 0.88lbs, which means it is super light, and won’t give you a backache as you navigate through airports or cities.
  • Charging Port : I think that the USB charging port is a really nice feature, and one I haven’t seen in many similar products.
  • Anti-Theft Pocket : A challenge with any backpack is having your most valuable items (e.g., cash, phone, passport) stolen while essentially out of sight. This backpack helps with this by having an interior pocket where you can stow your most precious valuables.
  • Luggage Strap : If traveling with your carry-on, like the Away bag , you can slide this suitcase over your luggage handle with the built-in luggage strap. I use this often when simply trying to give my back a break.
  • Built in Organization : There are so many interior pockets in the main compartment that organization is a breeze. In addition, you’ll see features like a key clip and slots for your phone and sunglasses in the front pocket too (great for quick access). This has helped me tremendously to avoid having to rummage through my bag when looking for something important. There is also a water bottle pocket, which is just so helpful in helping me remember to drink water and avoiding plastic bottles by bringing my own bottle along with me.
  • Laptop Compartment: If you are a digital nomad like me, traveling without your laptop or iPad is often just not possible. This bag has a padded laptop slot so that you can safely store your electronic devices while on the go.
  • Look/ Feel : I’ll be honest, I was initially attracted to the bag because of how it looks. I’d say they lived up to their desire for fully functional AND stylish for sure – at least in my humble opinion.
  • Price : Compared to many other backpacks on the market, the price for this backpack is relatively affordable. In addition, Nordace regularly runs sales on their products as well.

nordace siena backpack review

  • Capacity : This may be more of a “me” issue, but I have found myself wishing for just a bit more capacity in this bag. I’m a regular “ carry-on only” type of person, and I’d like to fit just a little bit more into this bag to make packing easier. Perhaps I should just pack lighter, but that is another story.
  • Luggage Strap : This was a pro, but I’ve also listed as a slight con as I simply wish I could turn the back sideways instead of upright on the handle. For me at least, it is a little easier to roll the bag slanted when the backpack is not at the top of the handle.
  • Lack of Power Bank : I wish that they provided a power bank along with the charging port. You have to buy/bring your own along with you – and this was not initially clear to me when I made my purchase.

Nordace Siena Smart Backpack Alternatives

95 road trip reno to las vegas

If you still are not convinced and would like to understand what other travel backpacks to consider, here are a few options:

  • Pakt Travel Backpack : If you really need more capacity, this backpack is definitely the one for you. It features a main compartment that divides in two so you can pack each side and use multiple packing cubes.
  • Herschel Kaslo Backpack Tech : This backpack is fully made of recycled materials. It has a capacity of 30L, and plenty of hidden compartments and pockets so that you can easily organize your things. It is a bit boxy in shape, and looks a bit more utilitarian.
  • Lo & Sons Rowledge Backpack : This backpack comes in both a small and large size, and like the Nordace Backpack, it features many pockets for organization, a water bottle slot, a laptop sleeve, and also can convert into a tote as well.

I hope that this post has shown you what a high quality bag that the Siena Smart Backpack is, and that it is a great product overall. This bag is great for short trips and longer trips, and when you are not traveling, it is a daypack for family days as well.

Whether you’re a digital nomad, an avid adventurer, or simply someone who appreciates organized mobility, the Nordace Siena Smart Backpack is an investment worth considering.

I know I am.

So, this backpack is full of features but where does it fail or excel?

If you are thinking of splurging on this bag, you’ll certainly want to read this Nordace Siena backpack review.

Nordace at a Glance

Nordace Siena Backpack review: about us excerpt from Nordace

Nordace makes smart and stylish travel luggage and accessories that fit the needs of the modern traveler and adventurer.

The brand uses quality eco-friendly Microfiber vegan leather to make environmentally friendly and sturdy bags.

Another interesting fact is that Nordace only works with Business Social Compliance Initiative ( BSCI ) accredited manufacturers. Which means the workers are in great working conditions and are treated fairly in accordance with human rights.

Their products include a range of backpack, duffels, totes, organizers, and even apparels.

Table of Contents

Design & quality.

Nordace Siena Backpack review: backpack front side

You won’t have to fret about this backpack cramping your style. The Nordace pack is super stylish and simple without being basic.

You’ll get so many compliments for its clean-cut style which comes in six different color options – black, beige, blue, dark green, gray, and red.

In case you’re wondering, this 19L bag can fit almost all content as shown in the advert on the Nordace website- a 15.6-inch laptop, clothes, and other essentials with room to spare.

Nordace Siena Backpack review: water bottle feature

Despite its minimalistic design, it doesn’t skimp on features.

It features a USB charging port, a padded laptop compartment, and hidden pockets and a luggage strap for hitching a ride on your wheelie suitcase. Another feature that has me impressed is how it’s designed to sit upright and in shape, whether it’s empty or stuffed full.

And to really seal the deal, the padded back panels help keep the bag comfortable against your bag and a water repellent fabric keeps your content safe.

All in all, the Nordace Siena is designed to stand out and be as functional as you need it to be.

Materials & Construction

Nordace Siena Backpack review: vegan leather zippers and handle

Although the Nordace Siena is designed for travel, it is versatile – suitable for work, school or short getaways; this is partly due to it’s minimalist style and numerous compartments for organisational bliss.

It’s made with a frosted fabric polyester, while the handle, zippers and logo insignia located on the right end corner of the bag are all made with vegan leather .

Keep in mind that while it is water resistant to the occasional shower, it is however not waterproof and so can’t survive heavy rain onslaught.

At 16.54 x 11.4 x 6.3 inches and weighing 1.9 lbs, it’s decently sized to go as a carry-on and customers have confirmed that it’s small enough to fit neatly beneath the seat in front of you .

Now let’s dig into the features and all that jazz.

Nordace Siena Backpack review: Nordace Siena features

Structured design The bag can stand on its own, without support, as well as maintain it shape, whether it’s empty or packed full.

USB port If you’re always charging your phone on the go, then you’ll love this feature. Note however that a power bank doesn’t come with the pack.

Luggage straps One more reason to love the bag is that it features a luggage strap in the back. Best part is, it slides right over the handle of your rolling luggage for the most hassle-free airport sprints imaginable.

Hidden pocket What’s more, there’s a secret pocket at the back that is perfect for storing your passport.

There are some drawbacks though. For one, the zippers aren’t the ever-reliable YKK, and the some users have complained that the leather fabric attached to the zipper looks cheap and is not as sturdy.

Moreover, the padded laptop sleeve is average at best. It’s not heavily padded enough as you’d like for your precious gear neither is it cushioned at the bottom to serve as protection from hard impact in the event of an accidental drop.

Fit & Comfort

Nordace Siena Backpack review: side and back view

Ok, let’s talk comfort.

Interestingly, its minimal design and lightweight material makes carrying 19 liters of weight very comfortable and manageable. The straps are not just adjustable but also well-padded to make you stay comfortable even if you’re wearing it for a long time.

So what are the shortcomings?

Nordace Siena Backpack review: laptop compartment cons and features

The shortcomings…

I would have loved the addition of a hip strap which would help take the load off your shoulders if you are carrying a lot . But this is a minor issue since this is more of a daypack that is not meant for heavy load.

A far more serious issue is that the laptop compartment is not heavily padded and most importantly has no suspension bottom for added protection in case you accidentally drop the bag.

To mitigate this, I would suggest keeping your laptop in its case when putting the laptop into the bag.

Nonetheless, the Siena comes with amazing features ranging from the luggage strap to USB charging port, and a little clip that prevents excess straps from flapping or dangling about.

Storage & Organization

Nordace Siena Backpack review: compartments and pockets

There’s enough room  and more than enough pockets to take this 19L capacity bag on small trips or overnight stays, making your investment go much further than the daily commute.

Bottle pocket: On the side, there’s a pocket where you can put your bottle. The great thing is that it’s streamlined and won’t bulge when not in use. That said, it’s not big and lacks the depth for large bottles.

Two Side pockets: There are two zippered spacious compartments on the front of the bag.

The one on the right has a little fleeced line sunglass pocket and a key fob. The left compartment has three little pockets to help with organization. Interestingly, the two pockets overlap each other and are pretty handy for things like your phone, wallet, charger, hand sanitizer and those other often-needed items.

Nordace Siena Backpack review: laptop compartments

Laptop compartment: At the back, there’s a dedicated compartment that can comfortably fit a 15.6-inch laptop.

Secret pocket: At the back of the bag, on the luggage sleeve is a zippered pocket where you can put your passport in for the extra bit of security.

Nordace Siena Backpack review: main compartment filled with items

Main compartment:  It opens about half way and is big enough to carry lots of larger things like books, clothes, cables, or any other gear you want to haul along.

But it’s loaded with more…

Inside here, you get a clear pocket for your toiletries as well two small slip pockets where you can keep your pens, air pods, chargers, or whatever small items you choose to stow in there.

Tablet pocket : It can also pocket your tablet, kindle or other papers that you want separated from the other items.

If you’ll be taking lots of items for a trip, it’s advisable you use Nordace packing cubes that’ll help you save space and have optimal organization.

Related: If you are big on organization, check my review of the best backpacks with lots of pockets and compartments.

Extra Accessories

Nordace Siena Backpack review: Nordace Accessories

Apart from the backpack, Nordace tries to create synergy by introducing several other accessories which works seamlessly with the bag.

They include Travel bundle (packing cubes and wash pouch), Universal Travel Adapter , Slippella (Lightweight Water Repellent Umbrella), Travel Wallet with RFID Blocking and Air Cushion Shoulder Strap.

Note : Each of these products are available in different colors but come at extra cost to you.

The Nordace Siena backpack isn’t cheap. The extra accessories that make the bag even better also come with a cost. But because the bag has lots of great ways to keep things organized, a lot of people would argue that the price is reasonable and justified.

Nordace Siena Backpack review: Nordace Warranty

The Nordace Siena backpack comes with a one-year warranty .

The warranty only covers defects in the manufacturing or workmanship of the bag for a year. Also, the brand offer repairs that are not covered under the warranty, but at a reasonable cost to you.

Note : The warranty  does not cover  damage caused by accident, normal wear and tear, abuse of the pack on your part or the natural breakdown of colors and materials over extended time and use.

In addition, Nordace offers a 30-days return policy such that you can return any product of theirs that you are not satisfied with.

Users Thoughts/Reviews

Nordace Siena Backpack review: Nordace Siena cons

Granted, the Siena looks good and is equally functional as seen in this Nordace Siena backpack review.

But it’s not perfect.

For starters, the bag is considered to be pricey , with some buyers on Reddit and Amazon complaining that the bag lacks the ‘posh’ feel that is shown in adverts and the pictures. Another drawback is the laptop compartment that is not well padded, particularly at the bottom for extra safety.

Then there’s the is minor of the water pocket that is not stretchy enough to fit bigger bottles. Its due to these cons that I rated it a 3.5 out of 5 in this Nordace Sinea backpack review.

But all in all, buyers were generally pleased with their purchase.. issue

Alternative to consider: Day Owl Backpack

nordace travel backpack review

The Day Owl backpack 21L is a cute and functional bag that is perfect for everything from work to outdoor activities.

More impressively, it’s an eco-groovy backpack with features such as a luggage sleeve, carry-on size, deceptive roomy capacity in a minimalistic design.

Final Thoughts

We’ve come to the end of my Nordace Siena backpack review.

The pros are that it holds a lot without feeling too heavy on your shoulders and it is fitting for work or the outdoors as far aesthetics is concerned. And with all its features, I do personally recommend you get one if you tend to travel a lot.

A key point of hesitation is the price – it won’t fit everyone’s budget. But I think a fine looking, spacious and well-made bag is a wise investment.

With proper care, you’ll likely get a long time use of this bag.

Let me know in the comment section what your take is on this bag. I’d love to hear from you.

This bag looks rather nice actually. It is a bit expensive, but it looks like it would hold up the test of time. I know that when I’m traveling, I like bags that I can easily find things in a cramped plane, and this looks like it would be perfect. I’ve noticed a lot of bags that have the ability to hold laptops actually don’t have padded bottoms, but rather padded sides. Maybe they think we won’t drop the bag because it has straps?

Overall though, this is a really nice bag! Thanks for sharing this review!

Hi Katrina,

First things first – thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Yes, the bag is a bit on the steep end when it comes to price (though there is a 40% discount deal going on now at Nordace.com). If however, you place value on being able to organize your things more than anything else – then the bag is somewhat unique because it has numerous pockets and then could explain the premium.

The padded bottom or false bottom for the laptop compartments is a recent innovation in backpacks, which I suspect is driven by customer feedback. It would seem that people do fear damage from accidentally dropping their bags so it gives peace of mind to have protection not just from the side but also at the ‘bottom’.

Cheers Femi

Excellent Nordace Siena backpack review. I was impressed that it is of great design, that it is not too heavy, and has nicely organized pockets. The price is really a bit higher, but you buy such a backpack for a longer period of time and it is a long-term investment. I am also enthusiastic about the company, I like that they use environmentally friendly materials and have a respectful and all commendable attitude towards the workers. Friendly greeting, Nina

Thanks for sharing your views Nina.

Brands like Nordace are increasingly realizing that it makes commercial sense not just to churn out great products but also to produce them by workers who are treated well and in a way that is environmentally friendly/sustainable because consumers care about these things.

This is a good looking bag with lots of features. All the pockets are great, especially the hidden ones.

I guess we have become spoiled very quickly as I too believe that the laptop sleeve should be suspended or at least padded. The USB port seems like a good idea, but only necessary if you are using your phone a lot during the day.

I expected more than a one year warranty, considering that some competitors are offering lifetime warranties.

As a day pack this seems ideal, but too small for overnight trips I think.

Thanks for the review, but I think I’ll keep looking. Cheers

Thanks Andrew for leaving a comment.

I particularly welcome what you said about the warranty – personally for the price they are charging I think they could have done better by giving at least 2 years. You only offer 1 year if you think your product isn’t going to last that long. Again as I said to someone else in the comments section, the premium price (bar discounts) is coming for the exceptional organizational feature the bag offers in the way of the numerous and bespoke pockets.

Best regards Femi

I’m actually really taken with the Nordace Siena Backpack.

I know the plain design may not be to everyone’s liking, but it’s absolutely perfect for me.

I note that you mentioned the expense a number of times in your review, so I did have a sneak peak, and it’s actually not as bad as I first assumed.

Okay, admittedly the price is more than you’d expect to pay for a regular backpack, but this is anything but “regular” in my opinion.

I also note that there is currently a 40% discount available, which makes this the ideal time for anyone looking to snap up a great deal.

I actually love the idea of a USB port, but I got a little carried away with the notion, until you mentioned that it also requires a power point.

At first, I was amazed and assumed that this was some magical, new, technological invention that I hadn’t heard of, LOL.

Sorry, my stupidity and ignorance came to the fore, Haha.

However, I soon came crashing back down to Earth with a bang.

With that said, I do think this is a pretty neat function of the backpack.

I’m really glad that you’ve also mentioned the lack of padding, in terms of your laptop potentially becoming damaged if you drop the bag.

I appreciate your honesty in this matter, but this is much the same as many other backpacks in the marketplace anyway.

All-in-all, I’m a fan.

Thanks for the insightful and informative review Femi, it’s much appreciated.

The Nordace Siena Backpack is definitely on my wish list.

Thanks for your comment – you covered a number of interesting points.

You are not the only one who thinks the USB port meant something remarkably novel. I too initially thought perhaps it came with a power bank – after all some modern suitcases come with pre-installed powerbanks. But these are rare and seen as gimmicks cos most folks prefer to buy their own top banks. Besides, you can’t carry some of these banks onto the aircraft – has to be checked.

Protection for laptops is something that modern backpacks are giving priority since people are increasingly carrying around their machines, plus consumers notice it. So it is a differential.

All for now.

Another excellent review. I’ve been browsing your site and thought I would leave a comment on your review of Nordace Siena backpack. I like your reviews because you go over every single aspect of the backpack and give your personal opinion about it.

Overall, I think this is a good product and I’m certainly interested. However, since I would be carrying my laptop in it most of the time, I’m a bit concerned it has no additional padding at the bottom to protect the content like a laptop from braking.

Other than that I feel this is a great backpack! Thanks again for your thoughtful review!

Thanks for the kind feedback and for sharing your thoughts.

If your laptop protection is a priority there are other stylish packs out there that offer better protection – I’m thinking of the Everlane Renew Transit backpack and the Herschel Little America backpack to name a couple.

However, you can always put your laptop in its case for added protection before putting it into the backpack because the Nordace Siena backpack has a lot of other things going well for it.

Hi Femi, I came back searching for a Nordace Siena Backpack review, and I was so happy to see that you have reviewed this backpack. In all of the internet, I think your reviews are closest to genuine and really well done. Thanks for this article. It has all the information I need. I love the fact that this backpack stands upright. and has so many useful features. Keep up the good work. Regards, AB

Thanks for your kind comments – I’m pleased you find the review informative:)

Hope to hear from you again soon.

I really like the Nordace Siena backpack. I love that it has vegan leather. Although some vegan leather may be made of plastic, nowadays vegan leather is more plant-based. In Mexico, for example, they have found a way to make plant-based leather from the nopal cactus, which is sturdy material. The bag looks elegant and I especially favor the white color. A one-year warranty is also very good. The complaint that it may not look as posh as advertised is in my opinion based on personal preferences. We all have different likes and expectations, don’t we? It’s a pity it is a little pricey, but is this backpack durable? If it lasts for years, then the price is maybe justified.

Hey Christine,

Thanks for contributing to this thread. I’m encouraged to hear that vegan leather today is more likely to be plant-based as opposed to artificial because the materials I came across in my research appear to suggest otherwise. But I must admit some of the research is a bit old.

I think I have seen an advertisement for this bag before and I thought the USB port was absolute genius and perhaps a very useful bag for travelling. It’s a nice feature to have but the thought of having the wire dangling..

And come to think of it, my current laptop backpack is not heavily cushioned at the bottom as well! It is rather strange. Hahaha.

I’ve seen many good reviews on their website but your unbiased write-up is done great. Thanks for this.

Cheers, SAM

Thanks for leaving a comment. Yes, Nordace has been promoting the Siena backpack lately which is why I chose to do the review.

The lack of a cushioned laptop compartment base should not be a deal-breaker (unless it is the most important feature for you) – one just has to be careful, plus you can use your laptop case for extra protection:)

Another great and detailed review. This backpack is absolutely suitable for the city, I love the design. I like that luggage strap and also the possibility to choose from 6 options. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your observations – yes 6 colorways aren’t bad at all; I know of other packs with fewer options.

cheers Femi

LOL, I don’t want to have a look at your website anymore, I get seduced every time. 🙂 *Just joking of course* But all joking set aside, I like the look of this backpack. It doesn’t look too square and yet it is, so every utensils would fit in perfectly. What I don’t like is that plastic is called vegan leather, just to upgrade the word. I think it degrades the word vegan. But you have explained all the cons and pros very well, so thank you!

Haha Hannie – very funny indeed:)

I feel you on the vegan leather matter though. I think some brands are quick to adopt the term so that they can be seen to be doing something good. And indeed it is better than using animal products.

The concern is that many of the vegan leather products are – historically – made from plastic materials. It is not clear to me if the Nordace Siena backpack is made of plastic or plant materials. That said, I have been informed that the majority of vegan leather being produced today are made from plant-based or recycled materials.

All the same, thanks for your witty and complimentary comments:)

I am really pleased that I came across this article. When I go back to work in the new year, I need a new backpack. I carry a laptop, cables, USB, books, notepads etc. My current bag is getting a bit tatty, so I need a new one. This bag looks absolutely perfect for what I need. It will be great for when I go on business trips and when travelling around the city.

I will let you know if I do invest in this bag, and I will update you on how it is going.

Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.

All the best,

Thanks Tom.

I’m pleased the review has made you consider the Nordace Siena backpack as a potential option. Are you aware the bag is current discounted by 40%?

Thanks for sharing. The Kånken backpack is usually my to-go-to backpack, but I must say I’m impressed with the Nordace Siena backpack. It has the sleek look, and functionality that are a must for a backpack in my book. Extra plus for the separate pockets, like the laptop compartment, eco friendly, and usb port and luggage strap. Nice find, one I would absolutely give a try!

Hey Veronica – welcome back and thanks for leaving another fine comment:)

The Kånken backpack is certainly another decent bag – actually I will be publishing a review of it shortly. But as you have rightly noted the Nordace Siena is a cool contender when it comes to dapper design and the numerous functional features it offers including ample organization.

This bag seems to be a solution to the many bags I carry in regards to compartments and I LOVE the design as it doesn’t comply with the traditional backpacks I see on the high- street which is often a put-off. I would prefer it if the warranty was extended than what they offered.

Hey Toyin – Thanks for stopping to leave a comment:)

I agree that they could do better than a year’s warranty – especially if they are going to charge a 3-digit-price for the pack (when they aren’t doing promotions).

Thanks Femi

Hi Femi. Thank you for this very thorough review! I have purchased the Siena backpack, but I’m due to travel to Europe next week, and still am a bit nervous about using it as a personal item to fit under the airline seat. Has anyone actually put it under the airline seat, as I keep measuring it, and it seems just a smidge bigger than allowed. I love this backpack, and it won’t be overpacked at all, as I am praying it fits under the airline seat! Please let me know if anyone has travelled with it as a personal item on aircraft! Thank you

Thanks for the feedback. I haven’t heard accounts of it being taken on board a flight as a personal item and I think you are right to double check because the dimensions are ever so slightly larger than the most common size restriction for under-seat luggage which is 16x12x6 inches. (Siena’s dimension is 16.5×11.4×6.3). That said, I think you should be able to get away with it if you pack it pretty light.

Sorry I can’t be of more help. Best wishes with you travels. Cheers Femi

Thank you for the reply! I will update you after this weekend, as due to fly on Saturday. Hopefully it will help others with the same question.

That would be fab Jennie. I look forward to hearing of your experience. And while we are at it, I just published an article on carry-on luggage rules. Grateful if you could take a look soon and let me know if you find it particularly useful given the nature of your question. Any feedback or comments will be most welcome.

Again, wishing you a safe trip.

Hello Femi! Just to let you know that my wonderful Siena backpack fitted just fine under the seat of my United Airlines flight! Their measurements aren’t as generous as some other under the seat sizes, but I was so happy and relieved that my backpack fitted under with no problems! But, please don’t overpack the backpack if you intend to slide it under the seat. If it crammed to full, and bulging, it won’t fit properly if it’s too thick. I had mine packed normally, and I also tried it where you measure the dimensions of the cabin bags and personal items at the check in. I was so relieved it fit under the airline seat, as I love this backpack, and will be happy to travel anywhere with it now! Hope this helps with people who wish to purchase this backpack for airline travel!

I actually purchased this bag after failure of other bags. I was skeptical and questioned the cost. I love it! I use this bag 3-4 days a week for work. The laptop section is padded, but I also keep my sleeve on my laptop just for a little added piece of mind. It holds everything I need from books, files, a med kit, pens, sanitizer, etc. I also purchased the compression cubes I use when traveling. If we are traveling for pleasure, my husband can actually fit his size 12 dress shoes in the laptop compartment and the packing cubes held three days worth of clothes, and the toiletries section is a nice touch. I’ve had this bag for almost two years and it’s been through a lot, and still kept its shape and looks good. I have learned the light color has been nice because you can actually see what’s inside the bag when you open it, instead of a dark struggle I had finding items in my older black back packs I previously tried. Don’t be scared of the light color- it wipes clean easily. It also fits underneath the airplane seat, even packed full. This bag is a winner and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a reliable, sturdy, and stylish bag.

Hey Dana – thanks for sharing your experience with the Nordace Siena backpack. I was particularly struck by your comment that the pack “fits underneath the airplane seat, even packed full.” One of our readers have asked the question because of plans to use it as a personal item on a trip to Europe. When you used it on the plane, was that on a domestic or international flight?

Hi Femi, and thank you. Would welcome your insights here. I just received a Nordace Sienna II backpack. Absent clearer instructions or a user guide – hard copy or online – I am unclear about the purpose of the two external “ports” – one male and “extractable” and one female which stays in place. Neither is a USB or iPhone compatible. The male cord is connected internally to a black circular cable holder (inside the vertical RFID pocket). The other end of the cable holder is a proper USB. (Presume I must purchase a portable power bank to utilize this feature.) The “3-in-1” tag on the backpack says to pull the cable and plug into your device. For an iPhone, the tag further says to “flip over to the side with the letter I facing upwards.” I have no idea what this is referring to. Thoughts most appreciated!

Hi Kathryn,

Are you able to send me a close-up screenshot of the external ports and that of the internal part of the male cable? If so, please send them via our Facebook account – https://www.facebook.com/travelccessories or Twitter at https://twitter.com/travelccessoris

Thank you. I just sent three pics via FB. Please let me know if another angle is better or more helpful.

Thanks for sharing – I have provided a response on FB. Cheers Femi

Hi. Any chance you could post the response here? I can’t seem to find your response on Facebook and have the same question / issue. Many thanks. Simon

Please check your email – I have sent you the screenshots of my exchanges with Kathyrn.

PS. Sorry it took so long to get back – I have been buried with lots of other pieces of work. I hope you find the exchanges helpful if you haven’t already solved the problem.

Thanks for this review. Just a query re capacity. If one were to buy the starter kit with the 2 compression cubes and the wash pouch – can all of this fit into the backpack with some room to spare, or is it a case of the 2 cubes and the main compartment is full?

Love your reviews. Cheers.

Please can you share a link to the starter kit with the compression cubes and the wash pouch you are referring to?

I recently ordered the Nordace Sienna II backpack for my trip to Scotland. Unfortunately the zipper broke the first time I used the backpack, after I checked in at the airport where I was unable to replace it with my old tried and true Patagonia backpack. Quite frustrating as it was the first time I tried to use the bag. I contacted customer service. After a week of emailing photos back and forth they finally offered me a 15% refund or they told me I could purchase a new bag. I was shocked at these options. A 15% discount does me no good as I’m still left with a backpack I can’t use. I’m not thrilled at paying for another backpack that could leave me in a predicament on my next trip. After doing more research many others have had trouble with the quality of the zippers on this bag. This is one thing that should be considered before a purchase. I appreciate the opportunity to let others know about my experience as I tried to leave a review on the Nordace website and they only allow excellent reviews that are approved by management.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I can only imagine how disappointed you must have felt given their customer service response. Considering that this is the first time you are using the bag, I would have expected them to offer to repair the zipper – albeit for a small fee – to say the least. After all, according to their warranty policy and I quote, “Damage due to wear and tear, misuse or neglect, while not covered under this warranty, may be repairable for a reasonable fee.” From what you account, damage is not even caused by wear and tear, it can’t have been damaged through neglect. The only push back I can contemplate is around misuse, that you may have tugged on the pull too hard and caused it to come off. Again, even if you did this – it is a new bag and the chances of this should small – the only plausible reason is this particular came with a rather low par quality zipper.

Did you ask for it to be repaired?

Who exactly is Nordace?

Nordace is best known for making unique and smart travel backpacks.

With the goal of allowing people to indulge in everyday adventures in style, they prioritize craftsmanship above all else.

With that said, Nordace backpacks are made to adapt to both city life and the outdoors, which makes them ideal for day-to-day wear.

The founder, Tony, was inspired by his real life and the need for a functional backpack that’s well-organised and smart.

Even better, they use only microfiber vegan leather that is durable and eco-friendly, especially compared to animal leather.

Where can you buy the Nordace Siena Smart Backpack?

The best place to buy the Nordace Siena Smart Backpack is directly on their website.

It’s great because not a lot of brands offer free international shipping.

Not to mention that they have frequent offers and promotions, so make sure to keep an eye out for those.

Nordace also allows for exchanges and returns within 30 days of purchase, if for any reason you’re not satisfied with the product.

Who should get this backpack?

This backpack is great for anyone looking for not only a literal smart backpack but also the aesthetics of it…

The Nordace Siena is well put together with a sleek and modern design. It’s especially perfect for those in business, commuting to work, and in school.

The anti-theft features will ensure that all your belongings and devices remain safe.

Who should not get this backpack?

This backpack isn’t for those looking for a transformable backpack that you can adapt for long travel periods.

Yes, you can pack this backpack up should you wish to use it from time to time as a travel backpack. It has smart features that work well for a short trip, such as a city break, but I wouldn’t rely heavily on it for extended adventures or an active lifestyle.

Nordace Siena Smart Backpack Review

I got the Nordace Siena Smart Backpack in beige, and one thing I love about this backpack is that it comes in a huge range of colours. From neutral ones like black and grey, to pink, red, aqua, and more.

I tend to opt for darker bags so am regretting going for the lighter one. But it does brighten up my outfits, so that’s grand!

The Siena Classic is a collection from Nordace. In addition to the smart backpack, there are packing cubes, wash pouches, and even a weekender bag.

I’m hoping to compare and contrast their other backpacks in the future! Especially as I believe this one is a bit outdated, though, of course, still serves a great purpose at an affordable price.

Overall, the Siena Smart Backpack is surprisingly spacious’

How well-made is the Siena Smart Backpack?

how well made is the siena smart backpack

In terms of look and appearance, I found the Siena Smart Backpack to be very well-made and high quality.

There are some leather accents throughout the bag. For example, here on the logo and the zippers, which add a gorgeous premium feel.

The material on the main body makes some crinkled sound when the bag is empty and you move it about, but I feel like that’s because of the water-resistant material inside.

This makes it so easy to wipe down and keep the interior clean.

The outside is also waterproof!

The straps are great and feel like they’d last longer than other brands because the padding actually runs throughout the length of the straps.

The backpack holds its shape well even when unpacked , which is nice and handy as you can rely on it to stand up.

Now the thing is, there is a procedure to cleaning this bag, and because I got it in beige, dirt tends to show up after compared to darker colours.

(This turned out to be annoying because I ended up being scared of getting the bag dirty, which was why I chose to take the Tropicfeel Hive for my weekend away to London…)

I notice that the bottom of the bag gets dirty faster, which is probably because you would set them down on floors and surfaces more. However, I do like the extra padding around where you store your laptop.

Finally, a detail that I do like is the small black loop in addition to the regular top handle that lets you hang your backpack up.

This is great because using the top handle, which is what most backpacks only have, to hang a heavy load usually wears it out faster.

How comfortable is the Siena Smart Backpack?

how comfortable is the siena smart backpack

I’d say that this backpack is pretty comfortable all around.

The shoulder straps have breathable padding and are so comfortable. They’re slim and curve around the chest area.

I would’ve loved a bit more give as I like wearing my backpacks right up my back these days.

One detail I just love is the thumb loop on the straps, which feel soft and make it so easy to adjust the straps.

Plus, the excess material where you pull from to get the main straps in position has a little black clip so you can then store them away. I thought this was a lovely touch!

The back padding is also very comfortable and I have no complaints about it.

The only thing would be that there’s no built-in sternum strap, which could’ve provided extra support for when you’re packing it full.

What makes the Nordace Siena Smart a great backpack?

1. front compartment with organisation.

Nordace front compartment

The first main compartment runs down about halfway. This is a top-loading backpack so just be smart with packing and put the thing you need most to the top.

I love how the zips here are kind of hidden, although note that they’re still exposed, so be careful when storing valuables in here.

The front pocket has two sections. On one side is a microfiber pocket that blends into the bag, which is great for placing smaller items like your phone as it saves it from flapping about inside.

Then you have the key lash. I like that this is on the front as you then have the ability to swing the bag around and unclip keys or whatever you might have hanging here.

(I know with the Siena 2 this is a retractable key lash which I would probably use more of).

You can feel the padding in this first compartment, so you know that your belongings will be well protected.

There are also some laminated pockets inside and smaller padded compartments.

All in all, perfect for keeping everything well organized.

2. Laptop back compartment

Siena Smart Backpack laptop compartment

The back compartment is spacious and large with no extra pockets or anything.

It’s well-padded and can fit up to a 16-inch laptop, though if you have a smaller one (mine is 11 inches) it might shift around when moving.

There’s enough padding here to protect your device.

The fact that the space for your laptop is a whole compartment with zippers and not just a pocket can be a good or bad thing depending on your preference.

Personally, I’m not the biggest fan, but I can see how it might appeal as it keeps it separate from your other stuff.

3. Anti-theft pocket

Anti theft pcoket

This backpack also has great anti-theft features, namely the hidden pocket under the luggage slit at the back.

You can use this to store your phone, passport, cards, or important documents. It runs horizontally and is a nice size as it’s not too big or too small.

The zips are big enough should you want to add on your own padlock to add more security.

4. USB charging port

Siena Smart Backpack USB

Another unique feature of the Siena Backpack that also makes it smart is the external USB port.

It blends very seamlessly with the bag while still being functional.

However, not that you have to place your own power bank inside the bag!

5. Great city backpack for travel

nordace sienna smart backpack citybreak

This Nordace bag is suitable for travel, especially for city breaks and weekend trips.

It works well on its own for a few days’ journey or you can pair it with a suitcase and use the luggage strap.

It fits nicely in the seat in front of you on a flight, even when fully packed.

Not to mention that there are external locks on the straps where you can attach things if you want to.

6. Stretchy water bottle pocket

Stretchy water bottle pocket on nordace siena

The water bottle compartment is another thing I LOVE about this bag.

It can fit a 1L bottle and fits my 500ml one perfectly.

The pocket also doesn’t run down to the bottom of the bag. So, say, if you have a metal water bottle and are setting down the bag in a quiet office, you won’t hear a loud clang.

It’s a small detail but one I can appreciate…

Is Nordace Siena Classic or Siena II better?

I haven’t had the opportunity YET to test the Siena II but from what I can tell, it’s not much different.

It’s bigger in size, has an updated USB port, and is a bit more of an updated version of the Classic.

I think the Siena I still performs and serves a good purpose and is ideal if you are looking for a smaller compact smart backpack.

Is the Nordace Siena Smart Backpack Waterproof?

Yes, the main fabric of this bag is water-resistant. It can withstand light spillage and drizzles, but I would still be wary of leaving it out in the rain.

Cons of the Nordace Siena Smart Backpack

Moving on to things I liked less about this backpack…

I’m not a huge fan of the zippers as they’re quite chunky, but this is more about appearance rather than performance.

I have seen comments stating over time they become weak and less flexible in movement. Thus far they have been grand, though.

The Nordace Siena Smart Backpack is also not designed for an active lifestyle or long travels, mainly because of the lack of ergonomics and back support.

It’s just a typical backpack with no lower, upper, or breathable padding and materials. This means if you’re sweating, the back of this bag will soak them up…

I’m also always looking for a gym bag but no, I wouldn’t use this to hit the gym.

Not only is it too ‘smart’ for the gym, but I would have it ruined as it’d be hard to handle gently.

For example, with the Patagonia and Stubble & Co bags, the materials are easy to wipe off if I get chalk on them. But with this one, it feels like it would be too much effort to clean.

And also, this Nordace bag isn’t machine washable .

Nordace Siena Smart Backpack: Performance over time

Here are my impressions in bullet points after using the Siena Smart Backpack for the first time, and three weeks later.

  • Well-structured design that holds its shape well
  • Great padding throughout the shoulder straps
  • Stylish, chic, with great colour options
  • Perfect for work life, minimal in its organisation but enough space to pack smart

After 3 weeks:

  • Continues to hold its shape
  • No real back support, but enough padding on the shoulder straps to help with comfort
  • Very stylish backpack, colour is great but easy to get dirty. I would maybe opt for a darker colour if this is something you are worried about
  • Great for daily life and commute to work: smart features and anti-theft pockets, but would not use for long or intense travels

Siena Smart Backpack Review after 6 months

Overall verdict: Are Nordace Bags worth buying?

Nordace backpack review

Okay. You’re probably wondering whether I think the bag is worth it.

Should you buy the Nordace Siena Smart Backpack?

My answer to that is yes!

It’s not a perfect backpack but I can still highly recommend this one, especially as a city break bag.

Overall, the Siena Smart Backpack is fabulous for what it is directed towards—stylish, chic, affordable, and lasting.

This product is on sale at the time of writing, and I’d recommend checking out their other bags too if you prefer a larger size.

With that said, at less than 1kg, the Siena Smart is super lightweight and I can’t rally fault it for what it’s worth and its purpose!

What else does Nordace sell?

Siena ii smart backpack.

The Siena II is basically the newer, upgraded version of the Siena Classic. It is slightly larger and heavier and features the Nordace Connect II 3-In-1 USB port. It also comes with several added features such as a sternum strap, retractable key leash, and RFID blocking card slots.

If you prefer tote-style bags, Nordace has quite a few to choose from. Their totepacks are two-in-one in that you will get a backpack and tote bag from the same product! This is great if you want a versatile bag for work, commuting, and going out.

Other than bags, Nordace also offers a few products in the apparel category. From merino wool socks and all-weather sneakers to daily T-shirts for both men and women.

Nordace Siena Alternatives

Matein travel laptop backpack.

If you’re thinking about this smart style with a USB port, anti-theft features, then this is an affordable but long-lasting option. It has great support on the back, it is slightly bulkier and not as stylish but still worth a look.

Here’s my full review !

Nomatic 15L Lite Pack

This is a higher-end product and doesn’t have smart features, but it is practical, well-structured, simple, and sleek. I’d recommend this one for business and short travels.

Knack Bags Series 2

The Knack Bags Series 2 is the perfect backpack if you want something geared specifically for travel and adventure. It’s expandable up to 39L, has tons of organisation, and is still suitable for work life.

Have you ever used this bag?

Nordace Backpack Review: Why this smart bag is in a league of its own

Nordace Backpack Review: Why this smart bag is in a league of its own

A while back I wrote a post on toddler must have and one of the items I included was a family backpack. At the time, I was using a fashionable brand which I loved. However, I soon realised it just didn’t hold up to the day to day demands of farm trips , picnics and family travel.

Transitioning from Baby Bag to Family Backpack

We spend so much on baby bags and really consider the features we need. I wondered why didn’t I do the same with the family backpack. And so I began my search. I needed something durable but stylish, spacious and comfortable. Time and time again, Nordace popped up in my search results.

I decided to reach out to them and see if they’d be interested in me reviewing their Siena backpack. It certainly was packed with features and looked like it could have everything a family travel backpack would need.

Putting the Nordace Backpack to the test

Over the last few months, I’ve been putting the Nordace backpack through its paces. It’s come everywhere with us. It’s been to farm parks and theme parks and finally on it’s first big holiday on the ferry to Jersey .

nordace travel backpack review

For family days out , it was perfect. The main compartment had plenty of space for extra layers, spare clothes and all the bits and bobs you take along on these trips and still room for a substantial picnic bag on top. I loved the front pocket for plates and the dedicated space for my sunglasses, keys and phone just made finding everything a breeze.

Having an external bottle holder also worked out well. It doesn’t take up unnecessary space inside and also keeps your bottle upright. No more leaks and spills.

Day Trips or Travel

However, this Nordace backpack really comes into its own and stands out from the crowd as a travel backpack. You just can’t beat the abundance of smart features the clever people at Nordace have crammed in.

Although we haven’t yet taken our bag on a plane (we can’t wait to) the ferry seating is very similar. I know this will fit perfectly under aeroplane seats and will work brilliantly as cabin luggage when we finally return to the skies.

The shape of the bag is ideal for fitting in laptops, ipads, A4 documents, magazines and more. For the more fragile, the padded back section is great and for quick access, the two front side zips are fab.

A feature-packed Mary Poppins bag

The entire bag feels durable with a stylish, water-resistant fabric and super comfy straps. Even when we loaded this bag up to capacity, stuffed full with a laptop, tablets, headphones, a mini Lego set, two cuddly toys, two changes of clothes and all our travel essentials , it still felt comfortable to carry.

There’s more…

One of the features that really drew me to this Nordace backpack was the integrated USB charging port. Now, this isn’t a feature you find on many bags like this. Simply add a charge bank inside and then you know, whatever delays you face or tech emergency you have, that you’ll always be able to charge on the go.

nordace travel backpack review

In terms of organised internal storage, you’ll be blown away. There are pockets and compartment for everything. I especially like the internal wipe-able zipped pocket that would be perfect for little accidents or wet socks.

Hide and seek

On the back of this Nordace backpack you’ll find a concealed compartment to stow your passports and other valuables so that they are well out of sight and reach. Here, you’ll also discover the additional luggage straps which allow you to slot the entire bag over your suitcase handle giving you one less item to carry. This would be great for getting through an airport with children .

In order to provide a more balanced review, I’d have love to share some of the downsides to this bag but I really just can’t come up with any. I guess some people may find it has a few too many little pockets inside but I love having places to put different bits.

The Nordace Backpack is hard to beat

This backpack really does have it all and doesn’t even compare to the fashion backpack I was previously using. It isn’t the cheapest backpack you’ll find but it is so incredibly well made, thought out and feature-packed that it’s certainly in a league of its own.

If you’d be interested in getting your hands on one of these backpacks, Nordace have kindly offered a 10% discount for my readers. Simply click the link HERE and enter the promo code: twindividuals

Upgrade your Nordace backpack

Nordace also make coodinating packing cubes. This came in so useful on our overnight stay before the ferry. As the packing cubes cleverly zip and compress their contents, you can fit in loads and this then fits perfectly inside the backpack. We were able to pack just a few bits rather than take our big suitcases into the hotel. Click HERE for more packing hacks.

I’d love to know what backpack features you find important and whether you researched your family backpack as much as your baby bag.

Hiya, great review! Thanks how do you think this bag will go as a newborn changing bag? Really like the look of this bag as a more unisex option as hubby doesn’t like most of the mainstream ones! Thanks, Lucy

Hi Lucy, apologises that I only just saw this message. I think this bag has some really great features that would make it work as a baby bag. The wipe clean internal pocket, the bottle holder on the side and the handy features like the key chain so you don’t have to rummage. It does have features like a wide back section intended for a laptop/tablet but this could be used for wipes and nappies. It’s got loads of internal pockets for creams and all the bits you carry around.

Fab thanks for that. I will look into it. Lucy

I am looking at the cream colored one for air travel for work. My concern is how hard it will be to keep it clean going under the seat on airplane, thoughts?

We are yet to use on a plane thanks to the pandemic but we have used the bag a lot over the last year and out on picnics etc and it still looks really good.
