Canadian music superstar The Weeknd is officially coming to Australia in November 2023.

After breaking attendance records in London, Paris and Milan with over 1.6 million people attending during the European summer, The Weeknd will perform in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in November and December.

The After Hours Til Dawn Tour with special guests Mike Dean and Chxrry22 will kick off Monday, November 20 in Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium before heading to Sydney on November 24 and December 1 in Melbourne .

Abel Tesfaye, adopting the moniker The Weeknd, embarked on his musical journey with the release of his mixtape House Of Balloons in 2011. This marked the beginning of a series of artistic endeavours, including the subsequent EPs Thursday and Echoes Of Silence, all of which came together to form the comprehensive compilation album known as the Trilogy.

In 2013, Tesfaye unveiled his inaugural album, titled Kiss Land, followed by his 2015 offering Beauty Behind The Madness. This release turned out to be a turning point in his career, propelling him to international fame based on chart-toppers like Can’t Feel My Face and The Hills.

The Weeknd’s subsequent album, Starboy, graced the music scene in 2016. This release featured a notable collaboration with Daft Punk and secured the prestigious Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album. The anticipation of fans was rewarded with Tesfaye’s fourth album, After Hours, which finally arrived in 2020. The album was marked by the ubiquitous presence of tracks such as Blinding Lights and Save Your Tears.

His fifth studio album came in 2022 when Dawn FM was released, marking what is likely to be his penultimate album.

“The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd.

“This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say,” he told W Magazine in May 2023.

Deeply disappointed but can’t wait to be there with you!”

When is The Weeknd touring Australia in 2024?

It is currently unclear when The Weeknd’s The After Hours Til Dawn Tour will be rescheduled to. Per the Live Nation statement, new dates will be announced in the new year.

The star was supposed to kick off the Australian leg of his tour on November 20, with a show at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. He would then have headed to Sydney , performing at Accor Stadium on November 24, before the final Australian show at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on December 1.

Is The Weeknd touring New Zealand in 2024?

He was originally set to perform in Auckland at Eden Park on December 7, but a rescheduled date has not been announced for that show either.

The singer and 'The Idol' star said he was "deeply disappointed but can't wait to be there with you!”.

Just In: The Weeknd Has Postponed His 2023 Tour Down Under Just Weeks Out

Sorry Australia and New Zealand, you can't feel it coming after all — Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye and his planned 2023 tour of both countries, that is. Just over two weeks out from his first scheduled gig Down Under as part of his visit, and after having to put on more shows to meet demand before tickets even went on sale , the musician has postponed his trip.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour. New dates will be announced next year and current tickets will be valid for the new shows," advises a statement on the Live Nation website , which is credited as a message from The Weeknd to his fans.

"Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates. Deeply disappointed but can't wait to be there with you!" the statement continues.

"We understand fans will be disappointed, and Live Nation is focused on working with The Weeknd to secure a new tour schedule. We will make a further announcement as soon as possible," added Live Nation Australia and New Zealand.

The Canadian singer-songwriter and The Idol star was due to play two shows at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium from Monday, November 20–Tuesday, November 21 to kick off the tour, then head to Sydney for three gigs at Accor Stadium from Friday, November 24–Saturday, November 25 and on Monday, November 27.

After that, he had four shows locked in for Marvel Stadium in Melbourne: on Friday, December 1–Saturday, December 2 and Monday, December 4–Tuesday, December 5. Then, it was meant to be Eden Park in Auckland's turn from Friday, December 8–Saturday, December 9.

the weeknd australia tour adelaide

An  arena spectacular, The Weeknd's global tour has been notching up soldout shows far and wide. In the UK, The Weekend saw 160,000 folks head to London Stadium across two nights, smashing the venue's attendance record. And in Milan, he became the first artist to sell out the Ippodromo La Maura for two nights.

Those feats are just the beginning. In Paris, the 'Starboy', 'I Feel It Coming', 'Can't Feel My Face', 'The Hills' and 'Blinding Lights' artist scored Stade de France's biggest sales this year — and in Nice, the 70,000 tickets sold across his two shows are the most in the city's history.

the weeknd australia tour adelaide

The reason for the whole tour, other than just because — and when it does make its rescheduled trip Down Under — is to celebrate The Weeknd's 2020 record After Hours and its 2022 followup Dawn FM . Obviously, he'll be playing tracks from 2013's Kiss Land , 2015's Beauty Behind the Madness and 2016's Starboy as well.

Just like new dates, there's no word yet if Mike Dean and Chxrry22 will still be supporting The Weeknd's Australian and NZ gigs when they do happen.

The Weeknd postpones Australia and New Zealand tour due to 'unforeseen circumstances'

A young man in a tracksuit and glasses sings into a microphone onstage.

Canadian singer The Weeknd has postponed his upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand, citing "unforeseen circumstances".

In a statement posted to Ticketek's website , the 33-year-old musician and star of HBO series The Idol said he was "deeply disappointed" but new dates for the After Hours til Dawn tour would be announced next year.

People who bought tickets for the cancelled dates will be contacted with new tour dates when they are known, and will be able to use their tickets for the rescheduled shows.

Those unable to make the new dates will be able to have their money refunded.

A representative of tour promoter Live Nation said the company understood fans would be disappointed, and it was working with the Canadian singer to reschedule the shows.

"We will make a further announcement as soon as possible," the statement said.

The Weeknd, who recently said he was considering dropping his stage name and performing under his real name Abel Tesfaye, was scheduled to open his tour in Brisbane with two shows at Suncorp Stadium on November 20 and 21.

He was then set to play three shows at Sydney's Accor Stadium on November 24, 25 and 27, followed by four shows at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on December 1, 2, 4 and 5.

Two shows in Auckland on December 8 and 9 have also been postponed.

The After Hours til Dawn tour has so far proven enormously successful for the Blinding Lights singer, raking in more than $US350 million (about $543 million) in gross sales from shows in the US and Europe over the 12 months to July.

Fans began voicing their concerns about the upcoming tour yesterday (2 November) when ticketing links to The Weeknd’s shows that weren’t sold out suddenly went dead.

“This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”
