Scottie Scheffler’s best shots from the 2021-22 Season

The PGA TOUR announced today that Scottie Scheffler has been named the 2022 PGA TOUR Player of the Year as voted by the TOUR’s membership for the 2021-22 season. Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking, led the TOUR with four victories this season, including his first major championship title at the Masters Tournament.

Scheffler, who spent four years on the men’s golf team at the University of Texas, received the Jack Nicklaus Award for winning PGA TOUR Player of the Year during an appearance on before the Longhorns football team hosted No. 1 Alabama in Austin. In receiving 89 percent of the votes, Scheffler was selected for the honor over the other two nominees: Rory McIlroy and Cameron Smith.

Scheffler, 26, was the Player of the Year on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019 and won the Arnold Palmer Award as PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year in 2020. By being named PGA TOUR Player of the Year, he is the first player to win those three awards, doing so in the span of four seasons. The awards were established in 1990.

“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, congratulations to Scottie on his remarkable season and his unprecedented achievements,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan. “Undoubtably, one of the highest compliments a player can receive is the endorsement from his peers, and the fact that Scottie’s season was both dominant and consistent spoke volumes to the membership. And as gratifying as it has been to see his development on the course over the last several years, we are equally thankful that Scottie has embraced the role as an ambassador of the PGA TOUR and the game of golf. With young stars like Scottie leading the way, the PGA TOUR is in great hands for many years to come.”

Scheffler’s four victories came at the WM Phoenix Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play and the Masters. He collected all four in the span of six starts, becoming the first player to win four times in a six-start stretch since Jason Day during the 2014-15 season. Only Tiger Woods (eight times) had previously won four times, including a major and a WGC, in the same season. Scheffler totaled 11 top-10 finishes in 25 starts on the season, including runner-up finishes at the Cadence Bank Houston Open, Charles Schwab Challenge, the U.S. Open and the TOUR Championship.

Scheffler held the lead in the FedExCup standings for 24 weeks, including the final 23 weeks of the FedExCup Regular Season, and went on to finish in a tie for second at the TOUR Championship, receiving $5.75 million in FedExCup Bonus Money.

With $14,046,910 in Official Money, Scheffler earned the most in a single season in PGA TOUR history, a record previously held by fellow former Texas Longhorn Jordan Spieth ($12,030,465 in 2014-15). In addition to his $5.75 million bonus for finishing No. 2 in the FedExCup standings, Scheffler received $4 million via the Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10 for finishing the Regular Season as the FedExCup leader and $1 million for winning the season-long Aon Risk Reward Challenge. Between Official Money and bonus programs, Scheffler earned a total of $24,796,910 this season.

Scheffler moved to World No. 1 for the first time in his career following his third victory (March 27), becoming the 25th player in the OWGR era to reach the No. 1 position (est. 1986), and won in his first start as World No. 1 (Masters). He maintained his position as World No. 1 through the end of the season and has held the top spot for 24 consecutive weeks.

PGA TOUR members who played at least 15 official FedExCup events during the 2021-22 season were eligible to vote.

PGA Tour names Player of the Year, but not without whiff of controversy

Scottie Scheffler beat out Jon Rahm for PGA Tour Player of the Year.

Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images

Jon Rahm won four times. Scottie Scheffler won just twice.

Jon Rahm won the Masters. Scottie Scheffler won the Players.

Jon Rahm played on the winning European Ryder Cup team. Scottie Scheffler, well, you know…did not.

But the PGA Tour announced Tuesday that Scheffler, not Rahm, had been named the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year by his peers.

The award is determined by a PGA Tour member vote from players who played at least 15 events last season. Scheffler earned 38 percent of the vote, beating out Rahm, Rory McIlroy and FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland; vote totals for the other finalists and turnout data were not provided by the PGA Tour .

And, yes, there’s also a certain elephant in the room: Rahm signed with LIV Golf last month and is currently suspended from the PGA Tour. He is unable to defend his title this week at the Sentry, where Scheffler accepted the award. According to the AP, the player polling was conducted from Dec. 1 to Dec. 15; Rahm announced he was leaving for LIV on Dec. 7.

Still, Scheffler is hardly undeserving of the honor, having ended the season ranked No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, the same place he began it after winning the Jack Nicklaus Award in 2022 . He is the first player to win the award in successive years since Tiger Woods did so from 2005-07.

Aside from winning the aforementioned Players and WM Phoneix Open, Scheffler put together one of the most statistically impressive PGA Tour seasons of all time . He won the Byron Nelson award for posting the lowest scoring average for the year, a number (68.63) which is the seventh-lowest of all time and best among anyone besides Woods. He led the Tour in eight other statistical categories.

He also finished inside the top 12 for 18 consecutive events and collected more than $21 million in official earnings, smashing his previous record from 2022 by nearly $7 million.

Scottie Scheffler has an admirer in Rory McIlroy.

What makes Scottie Scheffler’s game so ridiculous? Ask Rory McIlroy

Meanwhile, Rahm started the season on a tear, winning his first two starts at the Sentry and Amex before rising to No. 1 in the world with a win at the Genesis Invitational. He then claimed his second major title by winning the Masters by three strokes.

But his play cooled off significantly as he recorded just two top-10s after April.

Cole snatches Rookie of the Year honors from Aberg

Eric Cole was named the PGA Tour’s Rookie of the Year. The other finalists were Ludvig Aberg, Nico Echavarria and Vincent Norrman, all of whom claimed victories on the PGA Tour in 2023.

Cole, 35, is the second-oldest winner of the award and oldest since 39-year-old Todd Hamilton won it in 2004; he is currently older than 10 of the previous 11 Rookie of the Year winners, per PGA Tour communications manager Jack Ryan.

PGA Tour pro Eric Cole plays 2023 Minor League Golf Tour Championship event

Why this PGA Tour Rookie of the Year nominee is playing a mini tour event this week

Cole’s season was one of consistency with him finishing No. 43 in the FedEx Cup; he also was the only rookie to advance to the BMW Championship and guarantee starts in all eight Signature Events in 2024.

He led the PGA Tour in rounds, birdies and recorded the fifth-most top-fives with six.

Still, many thought Cole, despite earning three of those top-fives over the last three events of the FedEx Cup Fall, had ceded the award to the Swedish sensation Aberg, when the latter won the season-ending RSM Classic in November.

Aberg joined the PGA Tour only in June — the first to do so by finishing No. 1 in the PGA Tour University rankings — but made an immediate splash with eight top-25s in just 11 starts as a pro in 2023. After a debut win on the DP World Tour on the eve of the European Ryder Cup captain’s pick announcements, Aberg made Luke Donald’s team and earned two points at Marco Simone in the home win for Europe.

Ludvig Aberg

‘The next f—ing Tiger Woods?’ Ludvig Aberg dominates RSM Classic for win 1

He then backed up the performance abroad with a playoff loss at the Sanderson Farms Championship before dominating at Sea Island to win the RSM by four shots on the strength of back-to-back weekend 61s.

While Aberg went from college immediately to the PGA Tour, Cole had a different journey. It took him seven years after turning pro in 2009 to finally earn status on the Korn Ferry Tour. Even still, he bounced on and off the Korn Ferry, racking up quite the resume on mini-tours , while also giving lessons.

Cole earned his PGA Tour card finally in 2022 and never looked back, competing in a whopping 37 events.

He follows in the footsteps of his mother, Laura Baugh , who was the LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 1973.

tour player of the year

KAPALUA, Hawaii. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler has been voted PGA Tour player of the year over Masters champion Jon Rahm, a player vote that raises questions of whether Rahm was penalized for defecting to LIV Golf.

Scheffler is the first back-to-back winner since Tiger Woods in 2006-07. The world’s No. 1 player had the best statistical season since Woods by leading the tour in all the important categories from the tee to the green, along with scoring.

He had the seventh-lowest adjust scoring average (68.63) in PGA Tour history — the top six belong to Woods — and finished out of the top 10 only six times in 23 tournaments from a season that began in September 2022. At one point, Scheffler went 18 consecutive starts where his worst finish was 12th.

“Anything that you receive voted on by your peers is very special to me and being able to go home with this trophy two years in a row now is very special,” Scheffler said. “I think the body of work I put in last year ... I was very proud of that consistency.”

What he lacked, compared with Rahm, was winning.

Scheffler won The Players Championship and the Phoenix Open. Rahm, however, won four times, including his second major when he captured the Masters.

The PGA Tour said voting took place from Dec. 1 through Dec. 15. Rahm, who for 18 months had been an ardent supporter of the tour, donned a LIV letterman’s jacket and announced he was joining the Saudi-funded rival league on Dec. 7.

The tour said Scheffler received 38% of the vote in what was believed to be a tight race. It did not disclose the voting percentage received by Rahm, FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland, U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark or Rory McIlroy.

The tour previously did not release any vote totals for the award. Now it withholds what percentage of players voted.

In another close race, Eric Cole was voted rookie of the year over Ludvig Aberg of Sweden. The award comes 50 years after Cole’s mother, Laura Baugh, was the LPGA rookie of the year. Cole was the only player to reach the second round of the FedEx Cup playoffs. A longtime player in golf’s minor leagues, he made $5 million in his first year on tour.

Scheffler had hinted in the Bahamas last month that his vote might go toward Rahm because while consistency is key, “we play this game to win.”

Asked if he was surprised to win, Scheffler said it all depended on what mattered the most to players who voted.

“I guess this year they really kind of appreciated my consistency,” Scheffler said. “The way I played the entire year — I think I maybe only had one or two starts that I would categorize as not great, but other than that I had a lot of starts where I just played really solid golf. And to do that for an entire season out here I think is very difficult.”

Cole also was a steady hand, especially for someone who had played only two regular PGA Tour events before finally getting a card. At age 35, he is the oldest rookie of the year since Todd Hamilton in 2004.

Cole had two runner-up finishes and two third-place finishes, and he played well enough to move into the top 50 in the world ranking to earn a spot in the Masters.

Aberg didn’t turn pro until June. He won the season-ending RSM Classic by tying the PGA Tour scoring record for 72 holes at 253. He previously won on the European tour and went from leaving Texas Tech in June to playing in the Ryder Cup for Europe in September.

Aberg played 11 times since turning pro. Cole likely was rewarded for the full body of his rookie year, having played 37 times in a 15-month season.

2022 PGA Tour Player of the Year: Rory McIlroy, Cameron Smith, Scottie Scheffler headline list of nominees

Two of the four major winners are represented among these nominees for the prestigious award.

TOUR Championship - Final Round

The PGA Tour Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year nominees have been announced, and the contenders are exactly who you thought they would be. Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Cam Smith headline the Player of the Year race, while Sahith Theegala, Cameron Young and Tom Kim are the Rookie of the Year candidates.

McIlroy, a three-time winner of this award, won three times on the PGA Tour this year, including a dramatic Tour Championship over Scheffler in which he pocketed $18 million for his efforts. McIlroy's other two titles were the CJ Cup in fall 2021 and the Canadian Open in summer 2022. While he won a record $28 million for his on-course play (between tournament earnings, the FedEx Cup bonus and the Comcast Business Top 10), he did not have as good of a year as either Scheffler or Smith.

It was Smith who beat McIlroy at The Open Championship in July at the Old Course with a scintillating 64 in the final round. It bookended a remarkable season for the Australian, who has since moved on from the PGA Tour to the LIV Golf League. He added a Players Championship and a Tournament of Champions win to his collection this year and took home nearly $15 million in the process.

It was Scheffler, though, who had the best season of all. His four wins were all at tournaments that ranked in the top 12 in the world in strength of field in 2022 as he racked up victories at the Phoenix Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and of course the Masters, where McIlroy finished runner-up and Smith finished T3.

"Scottie Scheffler is going to win the Player of the Year," said McIlroy after beating him at the Tour Championship. "There's no doubt about that. You know, it would have been fitting for him to end his breakout season with a FedEx Cup title. I think he ... deserves this maybe more than I deserve it. He played an unbelievable season. He didn't have his best stuff today, and I played well and took advantage of that.

"Scottie will have plenty more chances to win FedEx Cups. Hell of a player, hell of a competitor. Even better person. Love his family. Look, it's hard. You don't really know what to say on the 18th green because he's had such a great year, but he'll be back, and he's a great player, and I told him this certainly isn't the last time that we're going to have these battles on the golf course."

Each of the last three winners of the PGA Tour Player of the Year award have doubled as the FedEx Cup and Tour Championship winner, a streak that will likely be broken this year when PGA Tour members vote on this award. Somewhat humorously, Smith might not even be eligible to vote for the award after making his debut for LIV Golf at its Boston event last weekend. Players eligible to vote are "PGA Tour members who played in at least 15 official FedEx Cup events during the 2021-22 season."

As for the Rookie of the Year award, it's likely going to be closer than once suspected. Although Cam Young -- who himself had a flirtation period with LIV Golf -- asserted himself as the best rookie at the majors this year, Tom Kim -- who will almost certainly play for the International Team at the Presidents Cup at the end of September -- came on strong and won the Wyndham Championship to get into the FedEx Cup Playoffs at the end of the year.

Voting will remain open until Friday, Sept. 9.

ATLANTA – Tony Finau took a deep breath.

The question posed to him demanded some deep thought. Who would he be voting for as the PGA Tour Player of the Year? Some years, like when Tiger Woods wins three of four majors or 10 titles, it’s a cinch, but not this go-round.

“Man, I think that’s really hard,” Finau said. “This year, is it Jon Rahm or is it Scottie Scheffler?”

Finau wore a perplexed expression and it was evident that his mind was working double time to break it down.

“Scottie’s been unbelievable. He hasn’t finished outside the top 12 ever, right, and that’s an amazing accomplishment,” Finau said. “But because Rahm won a major and how hot Rahm’s year was, winning four alone in the calendar year and in the first four months, this year it’s got to be Rahmbo.”

Finau isn’t the only player who is torn in determining who will garner his vote for the Jack Nicklaus Award, which is voted on by the players. (The PGA of America gives its own Player of the Year award, which is based on a points system, and the Golf Writers Association of America chooses its own winner at the end of the calendar year.)

“It depends what you value,” Rory McIlroy said Wednesday during his pre-tournament press conference ahead of the Tour Championship at East Lake. “I think Scottie’s won twice this year, Jon’s won four times, Jon’s won the Masters, Scottie’s won the Players. If you go on total wins — it’s hard because how can you not — it’s going to be really difficult because Scottie’s had — he could end up with the best ball-striking season of all time. He’s hit the ball as good, if not better, than Tiger hit it in 2000, which is the benchmark for all of us. But I think Jon probably has a little more to show for his year. But I think it could come down to this week and who performs. But it’s a two-horse race between Jon and Scottie.”

Tour Championship: Picks to win | Thursday tee times, how to watch

Brian Harman, the Champion Golfer of the Year, agreed with that sentiment and predicted it would come down to the wire and depend on who wins the FedEx Cup. For Rahm, it could be déjà vu all over again. He narrowly lost the Player of the Year in 2021 to Patrick Cantlay, who won the FedEx Cup by a stroke over Rahm, but Rahm had captured the U.S. Open that season.

“Gosh, yeah, it’s so close,” Harman said. “Scottie’s had one of the most incredible stretches of ball striking that we’ve maybe ever seen in golf. And then Jon Rahm, especially at the beginning of the year, he just seemed almost unbeatable. They’re two incredible players and I don’t think there’s a bad choice for Player of the Year. I don’t have a specific opinion, no. They’re both really, really good. I certainly wouldn’t want to make one of ’em mad before I have to play against them week, so I’ll refrain.”

Xander Schauffele played Switzerland too.

“I think this week will be pretty important in determining who may win that,” he said.

Let’s go back to Finau, who came to his final answer on a difficult decision with the following logic: “I still believe the hardest thing to do on Tour is win; the second hardest thing is consistency,” he said. “I’ve got to go with the guy who is winning more than the guy who is consistent.”

But Finau left himself an out in case he changed his mind.

“If Scottie wins the FedEx Cup on Sunday,” he said, “I might be voting differently.”

PGA Tour Player of the Year award winners

The PGA Player of the Year award has been in existence since 1948. However, in 1990, the PGA Tour and PGA of America created separate Player of the Year awards, both still awarded today.

The PGA Tour Player of the Year award is voted on by PGA Tour membership which competes in at least 12 tournaments in a season. The winner of the award receives the Jack Nicklaus trophy.

The PGA of America Player of the Year award is points-based, given to the player that accumulates the most points in a season. Points are awarded as follows:

  • 30 points for winning the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, British Open or Masters
  • 20 points for winning The Players Championship
  • 10 points for winning all other designated PGA Tour events.
  • 50-point bonus for winning two majors, 75-point bonus for winning three & 100-point bonus for winning four.
  • For top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour’s official money and scoring average lists for the year, the point value is: first, 20 points, then 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2.
  • Any incomplete rounds in the scoring average list will result in a .10 penalty per incomplete round.

Since 1992, the PGA Tour and PGA of America Player of the Year award has gone to the same person.

Tiger Woods has the most PGA of America and PGA Tour Player of the Year awards with 11 each. Woods won five consecutive PGA of America and five PGA Tour Player of the Year awards from 1999-2003.

PGA Tour Player of the Year: Jon Rahm or Viktor Hovland?

By josh chandler | aug 27, 2023.

After finishing the 2022/23 PGA Tour season in style, does Viktor Hovland deserve Player of the Year honors?

It’s an interesting question that would have seemed far-fetched if asked three months ago when Jon Rahm was running rampant and picking off PGA Tour wins as if he was taking candy from a baby.

Following his triumphant win at Augusta and the Masters in April, Jon Rahm may very well go on to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year award, and deservedly so. But now, following Viktor Hovland’s incredible run through the 2023 FedEx Cup Playoffs which culminated with him lifting the FedEx Cup on Sunday, it’s at least worthy of debate.

The PGA Tour Player of the Year Award, also known as the Jack Nicklaus Award, is awarded to the player each year who has had the best season on tour; as voted on by the Tour’s membership. Last year, that honor went to Scottie Scheffler following his incredible year during which he won four times; including the 2022 Masters.

In 2020-2021, Patrick Cantlay was awarded Player of the Year honors following his own four-win season which included back-to-back wins during the FedEx Cup Playoffs on his way to lifting the FedEx Cup.

The case for Viktor Hovland

On Sunday at the 2022/23 PGA Tour season finale, Tour Championship, Viktor Hovland won for a third time this season. It was the Norweigan’s second win in as many weeks following his historic win at the BMW Championship where he set the course record with a Sunday-61 at Olympia Fields.

This weekend in Atlanta, Viktor made more history. The newly crowned FedEx Cup champion continued his exceptional play with a bogey-free final round of 63 on his way to a five-stroke victory over his closest competition.

Hovland held off a hard-charging Xander Schauffele down the stretch with his flawless play and he became the first Norweigan to win the FedEx Cup. In addition, he became the fifth player to win both of the final two events in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and per ESPN Stats & Info, at just 25 years old he became the youngest to ever accomplish the feat.

Viktor Hovland finishes the season with three wins, having previously won the Memorial Tournament in June prior to his tear through this year’s playoffs. The 25-year-old recorded eight Top 10s on the PGA Tour this season, including finishes of T-3 at THE PLAYERS Championship in March, T-7 at the Masters in April, and a runner-up finish to PGA Champion Brooks Koepka at Oak Hill in May.

Late surge enough to propel Viktor Hovland past Rahm?

Jon Rahm kicked off 2023 with his stunning comeback victory over Collin Morikawa at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. From there, he went on to win in his very next start at The American Express in California.

After finishing T3 at the WM Phoenix Open in February, Rahm picked off another big event in his very next start when he won Tiger’s event, the Genesis Invitational. The Spaniard’s historic week at the iconic Riviera Country Club saw him reclaim the top spot in the Official World Ranking at the time.

Less than two months later, the 2021 U.S. Open winner added his second career major with his sensational win at the Masters.

Jon Rahm cooled off a bit in the latter part of the season prior to finishing runner-up at the 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool last month. The four-time winner on the season finished outside of the top 30 in both of the first FedEx Cup Playoff events before ending the 2022/23 PGA Tour season with a T18 finish at this weekend’s Tour Championship.

On top of his win at the Masters and his runner-up at The Open, Jon recorded finishes of T-50th at the PGA Championship, and T10 at the U.S. Open, in the year’s other two majors. In all, he collected ten Top 10s on the PGA Tour this season.

The verdict

Similar to both Scheffler and Cantlay before him, who went on to win PGA Tour Player of the Year honors, Rahm recorded four wins this season on the PGA Tour.

Viktor Hovland, meanwhile, also shares similarities with Cantlay in that he won multiple times during the postseason including eventually lifting the FedEx Cup.

Jon Rahm’s Masters win including an additional two top 10s on the season probably gives him the slight edge over Viktor on this occasion.

However, whereas Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler faded away, Hovland has at the very least given the voters something to think about in the coming days.

Next. The race for the FedEx Cup. dark

A race for the Jack Nicklaus Award which has looked very much one-sided for the majority of the season could very well have some late drama if recent performances hold any kind of weight in the end.

If that’s the case, Viktor Hovland may well be awarded PGA Tour Player of the Year when it’s all said and done.

WPT® Season XXI Player of the Year Promotion

(updated Jan 20, 2023)

Official Rules

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.

A PURCHASE WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCE OF WINNING.

Entry in the Promotion does not constitute entry into any other promotion, contest or sweepstakes. By participating in the Promotion, each entrant unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with and abide by these Official Rules, the Terms (as defined herein) and the decisions of WPT Enterprises, Inc., 17877 Von Karman Avenue, Suite 300, Irvine, CA 92614 (" Sponsor "), which shall be final and binding in all respects.

ELIGIBILITY . Only individuals who are (i) at least eighteen (18) years of age and the age of majority in their jurisdiction of primary residence at the time of entry, and (ii) who have registered for a POY Event (as defined below) and reach the “In The Money” stage (as defined below) of the POY Events, are eligible to enter the Promotion. Residents of countries currently subject to the United States embargo or on the United States list of state sponsors of terrorism are not eligible to enter the Promotion or win the Grand Prize. For a current list of countries currently subject to the United States embargo or on the United States list of state sponsors of terrorism, go to https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/Programs/Pages/Programs.aspx . Officers, directors and employees of Sponsor and its parent(s) and subsidiary(ies), (such entities, the “ Promotion Entities ”), and each of their immediate family members and/or people living in the same household are NOT eligible to enter the Promotion or win a prize.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: The WPT Season XXI Player of the Year Leaderboard Promotion will apply to the following WPT events occurring during Season XXI (taking place in 2023): WPT Main Tour events, WPT Prime events, and such other WPT-branded events designated by Sponsor as eligible for “Player of the Year” points (the “ POY Events ”).

Points will be awarded only to players who finish “ In The Money ” in such POY Events. Being “In The Money” refers to a player having reached a point in the event where he or she is guaranteed prize money from the prize pool. A player qualifying as “In The Money” more than one (1) time in a single POY Event (e.g., if participating in a POY Event that permits a “best stack forward” method of advancing after a player has participated in a Day 1A and Day 1B) will only receive points for his/her highest placement in the respective POY Event.

FREEZING POINTS: In any scenario where a POY Event ends with more than one (1) player remaining, and one (1) player is awarded the title, points will be “frozen” and all such remaining players will receive the points awarded to the lowest available finishing position. For example, if there are three (3) players left and play stops, all three (3) players will receive the equivalent of third place points. If a deal is made, which includes one (1) player winning the title, and play continues to achieve the order of placings agreed to in the deal negotiations, points will be “frozen” and all players will receive the points awarded to the lowest available finishing position. All other situations shall award points as usual, based only on those who finish “In the Money”.

Once a player is “In The Money”, the number of WPT Season XXI Player of the Year points that will be awarded for each POY Event is based on the total prize pool of such POY Event (determined at Sponsor’s sole discretion). The winner of the WPT Season XXI Player of the Year award will be the player who earns the most points from participating in POY Events during the Promotion Period. In the event of a tie on points, the following tiebreaking system will apply (only move to the next numbered tiebreaker if players tying are still equal):

  • 1st tiebreaker - Most Titles Won from all POY Events
  • 2nd tiebreaker - Most Final Table appearances
  • 3rd tiebreaker - Most Events Played*
  • 4th tiebreaker - Most Money Won at all POY Events*
  • * Only applies to “results in the points”
  • 4th tiebreaker notes - In the event a jurisdiction/casino allows deal making, then the individual cashes as listed by the venue will be shown on WPT channels and distribution networks. If the jurisdiction/casino does not allow deal making, then individual cashes will be shown as per the official prize pool on WPT channels and distribution networks.
  • To verify individual cashes go to https://www.worldpokertour.com/event/?list=past The date used to determine the USD exchange rate for non-USD POY events is the closing exchange rate for Day 1A as per Wall Street Journal website https://www.wsj.com/market-data/currencies/exchangerates

GOVERNING LAW/JURISDICTION: ALL ISSUES AND QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE CONSTRUCTION, VALIDITY, INTERPRETATION AND ENFORCEABILITY OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES OR THE RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF ENTRANTS OR SPONSOR IN CONNECTION WITH THE PROMOTION SHALL BE GOVERNED BY AND CONSTRUED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INTERNAL LAWS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WITHOUT GIVING EFFECT TO ANY CHOICE OF LAW OF CONFLICT OF LAW RULES OR PROVISIONS THAT WOULD CAUSE THE APPLICATION OF ANY OTHER STATE'S LAWS.

If, however, subpart (vi) is found to be invalid, unenforceable or illegal, then the entirety of this arbitration provision shall be null and void, and neither entrant nor Sponsor shall be entitled to arbitrate their dispute.
