Most accommodations are located in the general area of White Beach, which is divided into three stations.

You can find many upscale resorts in Station 1 (north end), mid-range hotels in Station 2 (middle part) and more budget-friendly options in Station 3 (south end). Beachfront properties tend to be more expensive.

If you're looking for a cheaper place to stay, keep a lookout for accommodations inland, but not more than 10 minutes away walking distance from White Beach.

There are also plenty of luxury resorts hidden in secluded beach coves and hilltop locations all around the island. This is the best option if you want to enjoy a peaceful vacation away from the crowds.

Dining and Nightlife

Boracay is known for its pristine beaches and water activities and its vibrant nightlife and dining scene. From beachfront buffets to local delicacies, there is something for everyone in Boracay.

Beachfront Buffet Lunch and Dinner

One of the best ways to experience Boracay’s dining scene is by indulging in a beachfront buffet lunch or dinner. Many resorts offer all-you-can-eat buffets with a wide variety of local and international dishes. Some popular options include the Discovery Shores Boracay’s Sands Restaurant, which offers a seafood buffet every Friday, and the Henann Regency Resort and Spa’s Sea Breeze Café, which serves Asian and Western cuisine.

Boracay Chori Burger

Try Boracay’s local delicacies.

For those looking to experience the local cuisine, Boracay has a variety of restaurants that serve traditional Filipino dishes. Some popular options include the Real Coffee and Tea Café, which is known for its calamansi muffins, and the Mesa Filipino Moderne, which offers a modern take on traditional Filipino cuisine. Visitors can also try local delicacies such as balut (a fertilized duck egg) and kinilaw (a Filipino ceviche).

Here are some of the local delicacies you shouldn’t miss when in Boracay. First, there’s the chorizo burger, which is grilled chorizo sandwiched in a bun. You can choose from a sweet or a spicy sauce, or enjoy it plain.

You can find it along with the food stalls at Boracay’s White Beach, along with other grilled food such as the famous dried squid and chicken liver. For drinks, don’t forget to head to Jonah’s Fruit Shakes, a famous refreshment store with various branches scattered throughout the island.

They serve sweet smoothies made from fresh fruits such as mangoes, bananas, strawberries, and my personal favorite, avocado.

Boracay Pubcrawl by Haqqy Life

Join the Pubcrawl.

Your Boracay holiday would not be complete without experiencing the nightlife. One of the most exciting ways to do this is through Boracay PubCrawl, a bar-hopping tour branded as a “moving party on the beach.”

Boracay’s nightlife scene is just as exciting as its daytime activities. Visitors can enjoy a variety of bars and clubs that offer everything from live music to fire dancing. One popular way to experience the nightlife is through a pub crawl, where participants visit several bars and clubs in one night. The Boracay Pub Crawl is a popular option for visitors to some of the island’s best bars and clubs.

Hit pubs, beach bars, and pumping clubs with free entry and ten shots to start the party. You can also bring home your T-shirt as a souvenir of an epic night.

Boracay Seafood

Enjoy the seafood feast.

Don’t forget to grab the chance to enjoy freshly-caught seafood. You can visit a traditional wet market here like D’Talipapa. Here, you can buy the freshest fish, shrimps, crabs, and other kinds of seafood, as well as meat products, vegetables, and other essential cooking ingredients.

After buying, you can bring these raw items to a restaurant known locally as a Paluto, and there, they’ll gladly cook the meal you want for a minimal fee.

Budget travelers prefer this dining experience since it is cheaper than buying a meal at a hotel restaurant. It is also an excellent opportunity to get closer to the local culture.

Accommodation and Travel Tips

Choosing the right resort or hotel.

When visiting Boracay, travelers have a wide range of accommodation options, including hotels and resorts catering to families, solo travelers, and couples. It is essential to consider the proximity of the accommodation to the main attractions and beaches. Travelers should prioritize choosing a place that aligns with their budget and offers quality amenities.

Budget-Friendly Stays and Luxury Options

Boracay offers a variety of budget-friendly stays and luxury options for travelers. Visitors can find accommodations that suit their preferences without compromising comfort and quality. It’s important to research the options to find the best fit for individual needs and preferences.

Proximity to Attractions and Beaches

When deciding where to stay in Boracay, travelers should consider the proximity of the accommodation to the main attractions and beaches. Opting for a location within walking distance of key places to visit can enhance the overall experience and provide easy access to the island’s renowned attractions.

Shopping and Souvenirs

Boracay is not only known for its pristine beaches and water activities but also for its shopping and souvenir options. Visitors can find various stores and souvenir shops in different areas of the island, offering various products, from clothing to handicrafts.

One of Boracay’s most popular shopping areas is D’Mall, located in Station 2. This outdoor shopping center has a variety of stores offering clothing, accessories, and souvenirs. Visitors can also find restaurants and bars in the area, making it a great place to spend an afternoon or evening.

For those looking for souvenirs, many options are available on the island. Puka Shell Beach, located in the island’s northern part, is known for its beautiful white sand and Puka shells. Visitors can find many vendors selling jewelry and other items made from Puka shells.

In addition to Puka Shell Beach, many souvenir shops are located throughout the island. Visitors can find items such as t-shirts, keychains, and other trinkets to take home as a reminder of their trip to Boracay.

When shopping for souvenirs, it is important to remember that bargaining is common practice in the Philippines. Visitors should not be afraid to negotiate prices with vendors but should be respectful and fair.

Sustainable Tourism and Best Practices

Boracay is a popular tourist destination in the Philippines, known for its pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. However, with the increasing number of visitors each year, the island has faced environmental challenges threatening its natural beauty. In response, the local government and tourism industry have implemented sustainable tourism practices to preserve the island’s natural resources for future generations.

Sustainable tourism is a practice that aims to minimize the negative impact of tourism on the environment, economy, and society while maximizing the benefits for the local community and visitors. It involves responsible planning, development, and management of tourism activities that address environmental, social, and economic concerns.

In Boracay, sustainable tourism practices include waste management, energy conservation, water conservation, and community involvement. For instance, the local government has implemented a “no plastic” policy, banning the use of plastic bags, straws, and utensils on the island. This has significantly reduced the amount of plastic waste that ends up in the ocean and harms marine life.

Moreover, hotels and resorts in Boracay have adopted energy-efficient technologies, such as solar panels and LED lighting, to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint. They have also implemented water conservation measures, such as rainwater harvesting and low-flow showerheads, to conserve water resources on the island.

In addition, the tourism industry in Boracay has established partnerships with local communities to promote sustainable tourism practices and support local economies. They have developed community-based tourism activities, such as cultural tours and handicraft workshops, that provide income opportunities for the local community and enhance the visitor experience.

BORACAY FLYFISH

Boracay is a heaven for adventurers as it is oozing with adventure sports, including the thrilling Fly fish Boracay. While fly fish was originally known as a method of fishing, today, in the world of travel and adventure, it is a watercraft. An inflatable water sled ( composed of 3 main tubes that looks like a fish) towed by a boat, is now referred to as fly fish. Why the name fly fish? Perhaps because the high speed when the speedboat tows this watercraft causes it to launch and fly like a flying fish. So, once you climb on the fly fish, make sure to hold on tight and wear your life vest because once the speed boat starts the engine and tow the watercraft, it will feel like you are riding a very fast craft and you’ll fly. Enjoy the moment as the sea breeze blows you higher.  This would usually last for 15 minutes and can accommodate 2 – 6 persons. Best to do this with you friends of family. Hopefully, you won’t fall, so hang tight!

KITEBOARDING/KITESURFING

Bulabog Beach located on the east side of Boracay (parallel to White Beach) is best known as the one of the best kiteboarding spots in Asia. During the Amihan season (Northeast Wind), which runs from October to April, Bulabog beach is the go to place of kite surfers, kiteboarders and windsurfers.  I remember interviewing one of the best kite surfers in the world while I was in Mui Ne,Vietnam, when he learned that I am from the Philippines, he mentioned Boracay as one of the best kiteboarding destinations. Bulabog Beach boast of palm-fringed powdery shore hemmed in by azure water. This laidback beach is protected from strong waves by coral reefs.

BORACAY TOURIST SPOT: KITEBOARDING

Kiteboarding lessons in Boracay rates start from  PHP 3,300 (Discovery Course), typically a 2 hour lesson. Beginner Course Kiteboarding in Boracay usually costs PHP 21,000 for a 12 hour lesson while the Intermediate course to become an advanced kiter typically costs PHP 12,500.

3.Explore Boracay’s Underwater

Apart from partying and nightlife that Boracay is known for, it has more up its sleeves. The island’s clear, denim blue waters also harbors diverse and colorful coral reefs ideals for diving and snorkeling.

What was once a fishing village known as Boracay has flourished into a diving haven, with a couple of dive sites to discover. Experienced and newbie divers can rent equipment and book dives at a nearby dive resorts or dive shops. Best to make your research first about the best dive shop in Boracay before your trip to maximize your vacation. Dive rates in Boracay vary, depending on the type of dive lesson and dive shops.

BORACAY SCUBA DIVING: RESERVE HERE

Non-divers traveling in Boracay can also settle for snorkeling. There areas in Boracay that are perfect for snorkeling because of the colorful and iridescent fishes and other marine life thriving underwater.

Boracay Helmet Diving

Another way to immerse in Boracay and witness its rich, marine life underwater is by helmet diving.  It’s a pretty famous activity in Boracay, easy to do and won’t empty your wallet.  As the name suggest, you will be submerged into the water while wearing a diving helmet sealed to your head and neck with a breathing gas supply attached to a diving support boat. The diving helmet was originally worn by professional divers involved in surface-supplied diving, it’s also great for beginners because of the low-risk of drowning and a large supply of breathing gas compared to the traditional diving. However, since the diving helmet is attached to a vessel, your movement will be limited. Still, this thing will allow you to see  the underwater clearly and the rainbow-hued fishes swimming by. Staff will also happily take your souvenir photos so make sure you bring your underwater camera.

BORACAY HELMET DIVING: RESERVE HERE

While Boracay is known for its shallow water and gentle waves that are ideal for swimming, there are also selected, deep areas here that are good for free diving.  For the uninitiated, free diving is a method of diving underwater where you hold your breath until you resurface, unlike the customary diving that rely on a breathing apparatus.  So, if you are keen to try it, bring your own gear or rent one at a dive shop sprinkled in the main beach area.  You can also inquire about the cost of free diving in Boracay.

4.Boracay Island Hopping

While Boracay is pretty known for White Beach in Station 1, 2 and 3, there’s more places to see in Boracay.  Boracay’s jungle-clad headlands plummet into delightful pockets of beaches and coves making it an oasis of  tropical island hideaway. And the best way to explore these underrated Boracay tourist attractions is by hiring an outrigger boat for island hopping or joining a group tour for island hopping. Boracay island hopping boats can accommodate  25 persons, 30 persons or up to 45 people. You can join a shared/group tour for Boracay Island hopping that usually costs ₱1,000 ($20) to ₱1,500 ($31) per person depending on the travel agency.  It usually includes buffet lunch and a roundtrip shuttle bus  (pick up and transfer to and from hotel from Station 1, Station 2, or  Station 3 only). If you’re staying outside the confines of White Beach, like if your hotel in in Diniwid Beach or Yapak area, you must verify the meet-up point with the travel agency, usually it’s at D’Mall Boracay.

Boracay island hopping typically includes the following Boracay tourist destinations:

Puka Shell Beach

BORACAY BEACH: PUKA SHELL BEACH

This serene beach is my personal favorite in Boracay, it somehow shows you how Boracay was in the olden days.  Though the entrance to the beach is lined up with souvenir stores selling all kinds of trinkets, hats, swim wear, boardshorts, summer dress, sarong, etc.  a huge part of the beach is hemmed in by jungle-clad coves without the crowd and palm-fringed coast.  What also caught my attention here is a native hut filled with hand-crafted artworks and goods.  It’s a great place for swimming and sunbathing and you’ll have the whole beach to yourself especially the cove area.

Entrance Fee : FREE

Crocodile Island

This is probably one of the best snorkeling sites in Boracay and usually included in Boracay Island Hopping tour.  Visitors are required to pay an environmental fee of ₱20 to enjoy swimming in Crocodile Island’s azure water where rainbow-hued fishes thrive. Best to bring your own snorkeling gear for your own hygiene.

Entrance Fee: ₱20 ($0.41,€0.35, SGD 0.56, MYR 172 , AUD 0.57, KWR 465)

  Crystal Cove

About 10-15 minutes away from mainland Boracay is the 2 hectare serene island formerly known as Tigutian Island, an erstwhile fishing outpost. Crystal Cove is  a popular stop over for Boracay Island hopping tour that is clad by rock formations and dramatic cliff and hollowed coves.  This small island is sprinkled with thatched-roof shelters and cabanas with a scenic view of the aquamarine water below.  It’s also a good place for snorkeling as it’s a sanctuary of iridescent coral gardens and colorful fishes. If you’d had enough of swimming, you can also explore the hidden coves and tiny caves in Crystal Cove.

          Entrance Fee: ₱200 ($4,€4, SGD 5, MYR 17, AUD 6, KWR 4,653)

Here’s a sample Boracay Island Hopping itinerary :

Travel Tip: The PHP 200 entrance fee at Crystal Cove is not included in the tour package cost, you will pay it separately. If you don’t want to pay the admission fee, just enjoy swimming outside of Crystal Cove until your tour group departs for the next island. There’s also a PHP 20 environmental fee for Crocodile Island.  Don’t forget to bring your own drinking water to keep yourself hydrated.  Also, I recommend bringing your own snorkeling gear for your personal hygiene.

5.Boracay Land Tour (Sightseeing)/Beach Hopping

If you’re looking for other things to do in Boracay and places to visit, you can hire a tricycle to take you around some tourist spots in Boracay.  Alternatively, you can also hire an ATV and experience riding the ATV to Mt.Luho Viewpoint.

THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY: LANDTOUR

Boracay Land Tour (via Tricycle): ₱500 (good for 2-3 passengers)

ATV Ride : ₱800 – ₱1,000 per unit

Here are the other places to see in Boracay by land:

Mt.Luho Viewpoint

Entrance Fee: ₱ 150 ($3)

BORACAY: MT. LUBO VIEWPOINT

It’s one of the highest points in Boracay where you can witness the 360 degree view of the island.  Take a moment to appreciate where the land meets the sea and the island lapped by powdery, white sand beaches almost everywhere, rock-strewn coves, and the few remaining forest-fringed promontories of Boracay.

  Puka Shell Beach

Entrance Fee: FREE

boracay Puka Shell Beach

Like I said before, this public beach is secluded and serene, so you can enjoy Boracay without the crowd, resorts, and less establishments. As the name suggests, this powdery sand beach is  dappled crushed puka shells (seashells) but it was formerly called Yapak Beach because it is located on the northern shore of Boracay in the confines of a village called Yapak.  Though there are stalls and restaurants selling drinks, food, coconuts, and souvenirs, there’s a lack of shade where you can lounge.  Bring your own mat or sarong or rent a lounge chair from one of the vendors here if you plan to sunbathe or lay on the beach and read your favorite book.

PUKA BEACH BORACAY

Take note though that if you are joining the Boracay Land Tour of Boracay Island hopping, you may not have enough time to lounge here.  You can rent a tricycle (quite expensive by PH standard) to take you there if you want to stay longer.

Ilig-Iligan Beach

BORACAY BEACH: ILIG ILIGAN BEACH

Probably the most remote beach I’ve reached in Boracay is Ilig Iligan Beach, blissfully situated on the northeast coast of Boracay Island. This is my favorite beach in Boracay. This place is uncrowded, often overlooked by tourists because of its far distance from Boracay port, and with only a few small restaurants dappled on its shore and about 2 resorts nearby. The palm-fringed sand here is cream colored and powdery, and the water is clear, denim blue, prefect for swimming.  What I also like about Ilig Iligan Beach is, it boasts of a scenic view of the beautiful rock formations and islets off shore. And if you walk a little farther, you will reach a forest and rock formations.  Hire a local guide (roughly PHP 300) to take you to the Bat Caves, which is home to hundreds of fruit bats and flying foxes, but make sure to put on insect repellent. If you want to stay a bit longer here and savor the beach, you can hire a motorbike to take you back to Boracay center.

Diniwid Beach

Diniwid Beach is the first beach that I’ve seen in Boracay when I first visited a couple of years ago because our hotel was located here.  It’s sort of an extension of the more popular White Beach Station 1 in Boracay, fringed with hotels and restaurants, many of them are standing proudly on cliffs with terraces offering scenic ocean view.  Since the beach here is not as crowded as Station 1, it’s great for swimming, but be careful since there are rocks on sprinkled on the seafloor. What I like best about Diniwid Beach is, aside from its powdery white sand, it offers a sublime sunset view of Boracay.

6.Boracay Sunset Watching

Boracay has one of the most beautiful sun sets in the Philippines if not the world.  Best places in Boracay to watch the last light of the day is at White Beach (Station 1, 2, or 3), Diniwid Beach,  Hagdan Beach, Punta Bunga Beach,  Balinghai Beach, and Puka Shell Beach, these are the beaches on the west side of the island.

BORACAY THINGS TO DO: Boracay Parasailing

Another great way to catch the world-famous sunset in Boracay is by paraw sailing.  Paraw is a traditional boat made of wood  with 2 outriggers and adorned by 2 colossal sails that can accommodate 4-6 passengers.  It’s a single shallow hull with floaters or bamboo on each side to balance the boat and prevent it from capsizing. These types of boats were originally used for fishing by the locals before it was commercialized to sunset sailing vessels.

Paraw sunset sailing usually begins at 5:00 PM and lasts for approximately 1 hour.  You can have a private tour or join a group. You can book while there or reserve online ahead of time for less hassle. Enjoy sailing the crystal, clear cobalt water of Boracay during sunset while the sea breeze touches your face.  You’ll also get to witness whole stretch of the picturesque White Beach and Diniwid Beach from afar.  It’s a perfect photo opportunity when the sky turns pinkish and tangerine as the sun slowly descends into the horizon while the silhouettes of the paraw boats strewed on the foreground also add more drama to the already scenic vista. Don’t forget to wear your life jacket and put on sunscreen!

7.try jony’s fruit shake – the original boracay fruit shake.

The original home of Boracay fruit shake is Jony’s Fruit Shake founded in 1982, not to be confused  with the popular Jonah’s fruit shake. I had the privilege to interview the owner – Mr. Dionisio “Jony” Salme and hear his stories of how Boracay looked like in the olden days before it made its mark on the world map. Jony is actually a misspelling of his nickname “Diony”, but he maintained it because it’s a combination of his and his wife’s nicknames.  Jony’s Fruit shake is also served at the attached Maya’s Restaurant , a beachfront restaurant in Boracay Station managed by Ellen Salme, the daughter-in-law of Mang Jony’s.  Maya’s Restaurant has really good Mexican and Filipino dishes thanks to its gifted chef – Jun Salme.  His son, Chef Jun Salme owns the Pig Out Bistro , a pretty popular Instagrammable café serving really good food located beside Jony’s Beach Resort, which I’ll talk about below.

boracay JONY'S FRUITSHAKE

The modest Mang Jony Salme, who is also the long time president of the Boracay Business Foundation Incorporated (BFI), an organization of business owners in Boracay, said he arrived in Boracay island in March 2, 1975, when the island has no electricity yet and it was still virtually empty and  the only inhabitants were a small group of  Ati, Boracay’s indigenous people, and only a few foreign backpackers visit the island occasionally. Mang Jony who hails from Pontevedra, Negros Occidental worked for the prominent Elizalde family. He was just a hardworking student who graduated from University of the East when he worked for the Elizalde Group of Companies.  He was assigned in Boracay in the 70’s to manage the Elizalde properties  – D’Mall and local radio station during the Marcos era because there were land-grabbing issue back then. He said that during that time, there was still no electricity in Boracay so they use a generator.  Jony’s Fruit shake history started when an Austrian  Dutch backpacker who brought a blender visited Boracay and sold him the blender when he returned back to his country. The young guy got tired because there was no place to charge his blender.  Back then Boracay foreign backpackers, mostly German and Swiss, started going to Boracay because of the guidebook written by German writer Jens Peters that mentioned the island.  Since there was no direct flight to Boracay, travelers  who came from Manila  go to Puerto Galera, then Tablas or Romblon and take a boat to Boracay. Those foreign backpackers were looking for refreshing drinks, but there was none. So, Mang Jony’s started the fruit shake business using that blender since his employer’s company has a generator.  But back then  it was pretty expensive to maintain the business since there was no electricity in Boracay, he had to travel all the way to mainland Kalibo, which would take a whole day, to buy a gasoline for the generator to run the blender, and buy fruits and ice. Fortunately, a co-worker gifted him a refrigerator powered by kerosene where he made ice, so he was the only one to own a refrigerator in Boracay then. Soon enough, the foreign tourists started lining up for his fruit shakes. He then thought of setting serving Mexican food like tacos and burritos because he taught that’s what the foreigners will like. So, he set up tables and umbrellas along White Beach, and the rest is history.

Jony's Fruitshake

Mang Jony’s never thought that he would settle in Boracay, he thought it was only a temporary assignment.  But eventually, he got married in Boracay, started a family, and now has grandchildren. Today, Jony’s Fruit Shake offers all kinds of shakes you can imagine – Avocado Shake, Mango Shake, Watermelon Shake, Papaya Shake, Chocolate Shake, Banana Shake, etc. Mang Jony also now owns a beach resort called Jony’s Beach Resort just right across Maya’s Restaurant .

8.Boracay Food Trip

Because of the rise of tourism in Boracay, restaurants started to mushroom everywhere and never stopped expanding. That is why, finding a place to eat and dine in Boracay can be quite overwhelming. Going on a food trip is one is of the best things to do in Boracay. I tried some restaurants and cafes during my repeat visits to Boracay since 2010, here are some of my personal favorites.  I will update this once I get to revisit Boracay again in the near future.

PIG OUT BISTRO

On top of my favorite café’s in Boracay so far is Pig Out Bistro.  When my friend __  told Ms. Ellen Salme of Maya’s Restaurant that I will be visiting Boracay, she invited to try the food at Pig Out Bistro.  It’s a small, Instagrammable café beside Jony’s Beach Resort. But unlike many picturesque restaurants in the Philippines, Pig Out Bistro’s food is not only Instagram-worthy, they’re really delicious.  The prices on the menu are reasonable considering the have huge servings. Some of my favorites here are the fresh oysters sourced from Aklan – the Oyster Mignonette garnished with mignonette sauce to balance out the brininess of the oyster, the Oyster and Pearl relished with cucumber, dill, and egg roe, and the Green Oyster savored with herbed compound butter.   They also have a massive Seafood Platter comprised of grilled octopus, grilled prawns, grilled gindara , garlic steamed clams, baked oysters, oyster mignonette, and rustic bread. Also, if you’re looking for a really good burger, Pig Out Bistro in Boracay is the place to go – they have humongous US Bone Marrow Burger , good for 2 people, made up of good quality US beef patty, garnished with cheddar cheese, pickles, tomatoes, chimichurri, onion, lettuce, and bone marrow.   You can read my full blog review of the Pig Out Bistro by clicking the link below.

MAYA’S RESTAURANT

A restaurant in Boracay serving Filipino and Mexican dishes – Maya’s Restaurant  is located in Station 1 Boracay in front of Jony’s Hotel, alongside Jony’s Fruitshake, which they serve.  It was established ion 1982, the same year Jony’s Fruitshake was established, but the name Maya that refers to the local bird “Maya” and at the same time the indigenous people of Mexico – the Mayans.  The airy restaurant has a tropical atmosphere, fringed by palm trees and adorned with potted greeneries.  Even the modern-designed rattan chairs here exude a tropical flair, offering a perfect view of the scenic bone-white sand and azure water of Boracay while you sip your favorite flavor of Jony’s Fruitshake.

Maya's Restaurant

Just like the Pig Out Bistro, the dishes at Maya’s  Restaurant are touched by Chef Jun Salme’s expression.  My personal favorites are the Lechon Kawali , which is served in a small kawali, the famed pork belly Filipino cuisine that is oven-steamed to make the skin crunchy while preserving the juiciness of the meat and fat.  And because of the owner’s Bacolod roots, you will find here the legendary Bacolod dishes like the Kansi – the softened beef bone marrow stewed in batwan , lemon grass, and ginger. Of course, Maya’s Restaurant also serve their own version of Bacolod’s chicken inasal, called Maya’s Chicken Inasal . For Mexican flavors, don’t miss their Tacos Al Pastor – composed of homemade fresh corn tortilla, cilantro rice, onions, beans, avocado, and slow-cooked pork. Meanwhile, the huge serving of Carnitas Burrito was inspired by the authentic burrito recipe shared by the former Mexican Ambassador to the Philippines.

9.Buy Souvenirs at D’Mall

Boracay is a shopper’s delight, packed with trendy boutiques, souvenirs shops, restaurants, and bistros. The compact downtown area is perfect for shopping, strolling, and people-watching at an outdoor café.

10.Join the Boracay Pub Crawl

Boracay is a beach destination, yes, but when the night comes, it turns into a party island. During our first visit in Boracay, we met some friendly fire dancers who took us to different venues in Boracay.  We even experienced a local bar where most locals party, and it was a lot of fun, like how we usually party in the province. Nowadays, if you’re into party scenes, best to join the Boracay Pub Crawl with an experienced guide, as you go hopping to different popular bars in Boracay and get free shots and special drinks at every stop while enjoying different activities.

BORACAY SIDE TRIP

Here are some of the side trips you can include when traveling to Boracay:

1.Cliff Diving at Ariel’s Point

Adrenaline junkies, brace yourselves! Although Ariel’s Point is not in Boracay itself, it is one of the popular side trips for tourists, about 35-minute boat ride away from the island. This eco-adventure paradise is a popular cliff diving spot in Batason, Buruanga, Aklan where you can jump at 5 different diving boards starting at 3 meters to 15 meters.

What draws tourists to Ariel’s Point aside from cliff diving is its incredible view of emerald green and turquoise water where and swimming holes hemmed in by dramatic rock formation. It also raves a rich marine life underwater where clown fish, damsel fish, starfish and anemone are usual sightings. If you’re not into cliff diving, Ariel’s Point day tour package also includes the following activities: kayaking along Buruanga coast, paddle boarding , snorkeling , and sunbathing with a scenic view of the Sulu Sea. A day trip package to Ariel’s Point already includes a buffet lunch  (traditional dishes), merienda (afternoon snack), and unlimited drinks (soda, beer, local rhum, mixed drinks, water).

Basically, when you book this package, you will be transferred from, Boracay Island to Ariel’s Point by an outrigger boat, about 35-minute ride. Then, upon arriving at Ariel’s Point, you will be provided simple snacks and drinks and safety briefing will start. After that, you can now test and try the diving boards for cliff jumping.  Lunch will be served and unlimited booze. After eating, you can now have fun cliff jumping, swimming, and experience kayaking or go paddle boarding. Now going back to Boracay is a whole lot of fun as well (if you love drinking), the boat ride back is nothing short of a booze cruise as bottomless rhum is passed around during a game of spin the bottle.

2.CARABAO ISLAND

If you’re planning to do a day trip or side trip from Boracay, I highly recommend the remote Carabao Island.  I visited this island a few years ago, and I had a great experience. Carabao Island is known as Hambil by the locals. It is oozing with palm-fringed powdery, white sand coastlines and turquoise water devoid of crowd. If you are wondering what Boracay may have looked like before the throngs of tourists arrived, Carabao Island is reminiscent of that. However, if you are expecting to find bars and restaurants here and luxury resorts, you will be disappointed. Carabao Island is laidback and is still far from overdevelopment, you go here to enjoy the serenity and experience the provincial life.

Boracay Itinerary travel guide tourists attraction

Boracay stands out as one of the Philippines’ top tourist spots, celebrated for its breathtaking white-sand beaches and pristine, crystal-clear waters. It’s been half a decade since my last visit to the island, and I’m excited to return for a solo adventure, eager to witness the current state of this beautiful destination. In this blog, I will share with you my experiences, itinerary, and list of expenses. And hopefully, provide you with a little insight into planning your itinerary.

Boracay Overview:

First, let me give you a short introduction to the island. Boracay is a small island, approximately 7 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide, located in the western part of the Visayan Sea. It is part of the municipality of Malay in the province of Aklan. Just to give you an idea here’s a map of Boracay.

Where To Stay In Boracay

The first thing that I put into consideration when I plan this trip is where to stay in Boracay. The best option is the hotels near Station 1, 2, or 3 in White Beach but the prices of those accommodations are way beyond my budget. Good thing I found Shore Time Dormitel . It is near the Jetty Port and is 5 minutes away from White Beach. They also have a shuttle service going to Dmall in Station 2 and back to the hotel.

But if you have a budget, my suggestion is to stay the the hotels near White Beach or Bulabog Beach since they are just opposite each other. Here’s the Agoda link so you can choose your hotel.

How to Get from CATICLAN AIRPORT to BORACAY | DIY Transfer

There are no direct flights to Boracay Island, I booked a flight to  Caticlan International Airport (MPH) , less than 10 minutes away from the port that will bring me to the Island. Here’s the complete guide for your reference.

Things To Do in Boracay

Even if Boracay is just a small Island, there are a lot of things to do. I even tried just chillin’ at the beach for a day and that didn’t make me bored. I listed below those that I tried and enjoyed.

Boracay Island Hopping

I booked a tour from Klook amounting to Php 900 per pax. We started at 10 am and ended at 2:30 pm. I really enjoyed it. We visited Crocodile Island, Puka Beach, and had a free lunch at Crystal Cove. I bring my own snorkeling gear so I enjoyed it when they let us snorkel in an area I forgot the name of. It was a very nice experience.

Water Activities

Boracay offers a wide range of water activities. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced adventurer, there are options for everyone. When I reached White Beach, there were a lot of locals approaching me to offer different water activities, but I already pre-booked those I wanted to try through the Klook link below. If you are on a budget, and can only try one or two activities, just don’t miss Crystal Kayak and the Parasailing .

Boracay DIY Land Tour

Aside from the famous Stations 1, 2, and 3 of White Beach, there are also other spots to check out in Boracay. The most common way to land tour the Island is through an  e-trike  or electric tricycle. It is the most common mode of transportation around the island. To arrange a land tour, you can simply hail an e-trike in the streets. The approved rate is Php 500 per hour with 4 pax. The e-trike land tour usually lasts 3 to 4 hours, so it will cost you around Php 2,000 to Php 3,000 which you can divide among your group. Just a little tip, I’ve heard drivers overcharging tourists so make sure you set the deal straight first before riding an e-trike.

  • E-Trike Tour P500/hour Maximum of 4 pax

In my case, Php 2,000 is too much since I am alone so I thought of trying to do a DIY style land tour with the use of Boracay Hop-On Hop-Off Shuttle Service . I purchased a 1-Day Unlimited Pass (Per person) through Klook amounting to Php 180.  The validity of the pass is 24 hours so I was able to visit places around the Island at my own pace.

Since I purchased online, I got the physical card in the Southwest Office in Station 2 near the well-known restaurant, Jaspers. It is so easy to use because I just tap it inside the bus every time I take a ride. The inside is well-airconditioned and clean.

Places To Visit in Boracay

No matter, what negative remarks I’ve heard about Boracay these past few years I am still in awe of the Island’s beauty. I guess others are right when they say, “You have to see it yourself”. Boracay is still beautiful. Touristy? yes especially if you visit during peak season. But there is room for everyone. If you want a quiet and few people. there are other beaches aside from the famous White Beach that you can enjoy.

These are just a few of the top tourist spots in Boracay. Whether you’re interested in water sports, natural beauty, or simply lounging on the beach, Boracay has something for everyone to enjoy.

White Beach

Boracay’s White Beach is like the focal point of every visit to the island. It is the most famous beach in Boracay and is divided into three sections: Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3. Each section offers a different vibe but they are all connected and just a walking distance to each other.

I am amazed by its stunning powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. I enjoyed relaxing under the swaying palm trees with mango shake. Station 3 is the meet-up place for the Island hopping and parasailing I availed through Klook.

White Beach Boracay itinerary

The first thing I did after I checked into my accommodation was to enjoy the sunset here. There are a lot of tourists around 4 pm onwards. There is also a lively nightlife along the beachfront bars and clubs.

boracay white beach sunset

Puka Beach can be accessed via land tour or Island hopping tour. It is located in the northern part of Boracay and is a serene and unspoiled escape from the bustling White Beach. Puka Beach offers a tranquil environment with its coarser, less crowded sands, pristine azure waters, and picturesque natural surroundings. It’s an ideal spot for those looking to unwind, sunbathe, or take leisurely walks along the shore. The beach is named after the beautiful Puka shells that can be found here, making it a great place for beachcombing and collecting souvenirs. Additionally, the absence of large-scale commercial development preserves its natural charm, making it an essential stop for travelers seeking a more peaceful and authentic Boracay experience.

Puka Beach Boracay

Diniwid Beach

Just a short walk from White Beach, Diniwid Beach has an idyllic and secluded ambiance, providing a perfect escape from the more crowded areas on the island. Diniwid Beach is nestled in a picturesque cove, surrounded by lush vegetation and dramatic cliffs, creating a serene and romantic atmosphere. It provides a peaceful retreat while still being conveniently close to the vibrant scene of White Beach, making it a must-visit for those seeking a more tranquil Boracay experience.

Diniwid beach boracay

Lambros Point

Lambros Point for me is what separates White Beach Station 1 from Diniwid Beach. The sunset stroll here is a must.

Lambros Point boracay

Bulabog Beach

If you look at the map of Boracay above, Bulabog Beach is situated on the opposite side of the island from White Beach. It is a 5-minute walk from Dmall in Station 2 to this beach. The main attractions here is this I heart Boracay and the Slanting Palm tree which to tell you has a long queue for those who wanted to take a picture.

Boracay itinerary travel guide

I went to Bulabog Beach almost every day to take a picture of this slanting coconut tree but every time I came here there was a long line waiting for their turn to be photographed here. Good thing, that on my last day I saw just 3 groups waiting so I was able to get my chance. Wooh!

Bulabog Beach boracay

Willy’s Rock

Willy’s Rock is a natural volcanic formation located right off the shore of White Beach. What makes it stand out is the small grotto built into the rock, which houses a statue of the Virgin Mary. This unique and visually striking landmark provides a stunning backdrop for photographs and is often considered one of the most recognizable symbols of Boracay.

Willy's Rock Boracay

D’Mall

D’Mall located in Station 2 is Boracay’s main shopping and dining area. There are numerous shops, restaurants, and bars here. It is very lively here day and night.

tourist spot boracay

Cujo’s Keyhole

Cujo’s Keyhole also known as “The Keyhole” is the new attraction in Boracay. It is located in Boracay Newcoast, a private real estate and resort development on the island’s northeast coast. Most tourists come here via e-trike or a tricycle land tour which includes a Keyhole stop in the itinerary. But I visit here via the Boracay Hop-On Hop-Off Shuttle Service and walk for 5 minutes.

Cujo’s Keyhole Boracay

New Coast Beach

To be honest, I never intended to visit New Coast Beach nor does it include on my Boracay itinerary. But I was able to have a glimpse of it when I went to the Keyhole and on my way back I decided to check out the beach. And I’m glad I did because this place is awesome. Very quiet and only a few tourists are here.

New Coast boracay itinerary

The Keyhole is even visible on this beach. It was a nice view.

7 Best Boracay Tourist Spots

The island of Boracay has long been one of the most famous Philippine destinations. People from all over head to the tiny island for its powder-white sand, and unbeatable party scene.

But if you want to make the most out of your trip, Boracay has a lot more to offer. Here are seven Boracay tourist spots that you should visit:

COVID-19 Travel Requirements to Boracay

As the world is adapting to the endemic phase, Boracay has already opened its borders to international travelers. Some regulations travelers need to follow through are:

1. Puka Shell Beach

tourist spot boracay

Puka Beach is a popular alternative to the party side of Boracay.

Much different from the other parts of the island, the waves here can get a little choppy during the day. So, instead of the noise of party-goers, all you’ll hear are the natural sounds of nature.

It’s a good idea to pack some snacks, lay out a beach mat, and enjoy a picnic while waiting for the famous Boracay sunset.

2. Ariel’s Point

tourist spot boracay

This Boracay gem is the perfect change of scenery from the Boracay you’re used to.

Ariel’s point is most popular for their 15 meter high “diving boards” where adventure junkies can leap off to the clear waters below.

But if you’re not up for the thrill, Ariel’s point is still worth the visit. Despite its increasing popularity, this area has one of the clearest waters and richest marine life in Boracay.

What’s best is the fee typically includes a buffet lunch, unlimited jumps, snorkeling, kayaking, and roundtrip transfers.

3. Mount Luho

tourist spot boracay

Rising 100 meters above sea level, Mount Luho is the highest point in the island. It’s the best spot to see the beauty of Boracay like never before.

4. Crystal Cove

tourist spot boracay

Crystal Cove is one of the must-visit island hopping destinations when you’re in Boracay.

The private island is filled with mini coves, picturesque views, statues, and never ending photo op spots all over the island.

5. Bulabog Beach

tourist spot boracay

Also known as “back beach”, a visit to Bulabog is not the typical Boracay experience you would expect.

Aside from the regular parties hosted on the island, Boracay is also popular for windsurfing and kitesurfing competitions.

Even if you’re not familiar with the sport, watching the surfers and their acrobatic moves can be very entertaining.

6. Diniwid Beach

tourist spot boracay

Diniwid Beach is just a short walk away from all the bars yet it seems to be on a different island.

The small, serene beach is your quick escape from the bustling station 1 and 2.

If you don’t have time for island hopping, Diniwid Beach is a great alternative.

7. Willy’s Rock

tourist spot boracay

Willy’s Rock is probably one of the most recognizable attractions in the island.

Named after the resort in front of it, the oddly shaped volcanic formation can be found in Station 1. You can’t miss it.

Enjoy a fun experience and check out other restaurants, things to do and more in Boracay . Discover cheap hotel deals and cheap flights from carriers like Philippine Airlines , AirAsia , and more with Traveloka!

2024 BORACAY TRAVEL GUIDE with Requirements, Sample Itinerary & Budget

2024 BORACAY TRAVEL GUIDE with Requirements, Sample Itinerary & Budget

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

Any conversation about tourism in the Philippines feels incomplete without at least a mention of Boracay . After all, it is undoubtedly the country’s most popular destination, topping various publications’ lists of best islands not just in Asia but in the world.

This massive attention transformed what used to be a quiet village into a developed — or in the eyes of some, overdeveloped — tourist destination. Resorts of all shapes, sizes and classes have sprouted along its shining coast. Lanes of restaurants and shops mushroomed along its streets and alleys. And two airports have been built to serve the growing number of locals and visitors coming in and out of the island.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

UNDERSTANDING BORACAY

It’s easy to see why Boracay has been enchanting millions of tourists a year. Even for non-believers, its sheer natural beauty will smack you in the face as soon as you set foot in the island’s biggest asset — White Beach . This sparkling picture-perfect strip must be what paradise is made of. We’ve been to countless other beaches around the world, but only few could rival Boracay’s shimmering sand.

Boracay Sand

Boracay’s development has also made it a destination for everyone. Whether you’re a budget backpacker or a luxury traveler, young or old, solo or on a honeymoon, with friends or with family, you’ll find something to fall in love with here. Plus, most conveniences that we enjoy in the city can also be found here.

Boracay Island is part of the Municipality of Malay , which is a part of the Province of Aklan, which is a part of Panay Island. Caticlan, the barangay on the mainland closest to Boracay, serves as the gateway to the island. Both the Caticlan Airport and the Caticlan Jetty Port are located here.

Here are more bits about Boracay.

  • Location: Boracay is within the municipality of Malay, province of Aklan in the Philippines. Mainland Aklan is part of Panay Island.
  • Languages: Aklanon and Ati are the native languages. But locals, especially those working in the tourism industry, can fluently speak and understand Tagalog and English.
  • Time Zone: UTC+8 (Philippine Standard Time). The Philippines is in the same time zone as Singapore and Beijing, one hour ahead of Thailand, and one hour behind Japan.
  • Currency: Philippine peso (PHP, ₱). PHP100 is around USD 1.81, EUR 1.66, SGD 2.45 (as of July 2023).
  • Modes of payment: CASH, primarily. Some establishments accept credit cards, but most smaller stores and eateries accept only cash or GCash.

BORACAY TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Because Boracay is visited by millions of tourists, the local government is monitoring and regulating the entry of visitors. Here are the requirements that you’ll need to prepare and present upon entry.

  • Tourist Arrival Form. To be accomplished upon arrival at the Caticlan Jetty Port. I also found this online form , but in my experience, even if you accomplish this, a physical form will still be filled out on site, which makes the online form pointless.
  • Valid ID. For Filipinos, any valid ID will do. For foreigners, passport.

A confirmed hotel or resort booking is no longer required, but it remains HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Boracay has a list of accredited resorts, hotels, inns, and guesthouses. To see the complete list, check out: LIST OF ACCREDITED BORACAY RESORTS AND HOTELS! ✅

But given the sheer number of lodging options in Boracay, where is the best place to stay?

WHERE TO STAY IN BORACAY

When looking for a place to stay in Boracay, it is important to be familiar with its geography. Boracay is a bone-shaped island politically divided into three barangays (villages): Balabag, Manoc-Manoc, and Yapak. Manoc-Manoc is the southernmost barangay, where the jetties are located. You’ll be encountering the names of these barangays when checking out accommodations online. But for tourism purposes, it’ll be easier to split the island not by barangay but by beach.

Boracay Island Map

Most people who haven’t been to Boracay are under the impression that it has only one beach because most media features focus on its main stretch — White Beach. And while it is the longest and most popular, it is not the only strip of sand here. The island is hemmed by over a dozen beaches!

White Beach Boracay

White Beach , the busiest, most crowded, and the most stunning beach on the island. This has the highest concentration of accommodations. It is also the longest beach, split into three boat stations:

  • Station 1 is the northern section of White Beach, in Barangay Balabag. It is the quietest of the three stations and what many regard as the most beautiful, thanks to its wide bed of white sand. It’s also where you’ll find the iconic Willy’s Rock (grotto). However, while there are a few budget-friendly options, most resorts here are on the more upscale end of the spectrum.
  • Station 2 is the epicenter of all the action in Boracay. It is the busiest part of the island, where you’ll find the greatest concentration of lodging, dining, and shopping establishments including D’Mall, arguably the most visited area here. It’s also the most accessible and most connected part of the island. The catch is, it’s loud, crowded and always abuzz with activities.
  • Station 3 is tucked in the southernmost end of White Beach. Because the sand here is narrower and steeper, it is not as popular or as crowded as Station 2, but it is still pretty accessible. The area is also brimming with more affordable inns, hostels, and guesthouses.

Aside from White Beach, you’ll also find other accommodations in other parts of the island.

Boracay Island Station Zero

  • Station 0 is not part of White Beach. It is the nickname given to Punta Bunga Beach, a cove shared by Shangri-La Boracay, Crimson Resort and Spa, and Movenpick Resort and Spa. These are all high-end resorts, which means only a few guests have access to the place. Prices per night at these resorts range from PHP 11,000 for a room to PHP 30,000 for suites to PHP 70,000 for super posh villas.
  • Diniwid Beach is a short patch of sand north of White Beach, separated only by a promontory. Although seemingly isolated, there is a cemented walking trail along the beach that connects Diniwid to White Beach. Some of the establishments you’ll find here are Microtel by Wyndham and Dinibeach Bar & Restaurant.
  • Banyugan Beach serves as the private cove of Shangri-La Boracay. Yes, Shangri-la has access to two coves.
  • Boracay Newcoast is a 150-hectare township-style property occupying the northeastern edges of the island, between Lapuz-Lapuz Beach and Ilig-iligan Beach. Located here are Savoy Hotel and Belmont Hotel, among others. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet away from the crowd, it’s something to consider. It’s not the most accessible, but the hotels here provide free shuttle service to White Beach.
  • Bulabog Beach is another long stretch hugging the eastern side of the island, almost parallel to White Beach. The sand here isn’t fine, but it is also very accessible and is most well-known as the jump off point for many exciting water activities and great for sunrise watching.

If you’re on a budget, another place to consider is the inland area between White Beach and Bulabog Beach. You’ll find many pleasant guesthouses and apartments for rent here like Dakong Amihan and Villa D’enghien.

Best Neighborhood to Stay

Boracay Station 1

What’s best depends on why you’re in Boracay in the first place and how much you’re willing to shell out for accommodations. We wrote a more detailed comparison of each area here: BEST AREA TO STAY IN BORACAY!

But here’s a quick summary:

  • If it’s your first time, any of White Beach’s three stations is ideal. This will give you easy access to everything.
  • If you’re on a budget, try looking for affordable places to stay in Station 3 and in inland areas. Beachfront properties tend to be much more expensive. The border between Stations 1 and 2 have a number of relatively cheap backpacking hostels, too.
  • If you’re after peace and quiet or you’re celebrating a special occasion, Boracay New Coast and Diniwid Beach may be worth a look.

I personally prefer White Beach Station 1 because it is the quietest but still very accessible. But Stations 2 and 3 are also good and have more pocket-friendly options.

IMPORTANT! If you wish to stay in Boracay, NO BOOKING, NO ENTRY. You must show proof of booking or reservation with any of the accredited hotels.

How to get to boracay.

All tourists traveling to Boracay must pass through Caticlan, a barangay in mainland Aklan. It has two ports that passengers may use to get to the island, depending on the season: Caticlan Jetty Port and Tabon Port . You don’t need to worry about it because they are not too far apart and every driver in Caticlan knows which port is operational at any given time.

Caticlan Jetty Port Boracay

The first step to reach Boracay is to make your way to Caticlan. You have several options.

  • By plane, via Caticlan Airport
  • By plane, via Kalibo Airport
  • By ferry, via 2GO Travel

The island is served by two airports: Kalibo International Airport (KLO) , which involves around 2 hours of travel time; and Caticlan International Airport (MPH) aka Boracay Airport , which is just 15 minutes away from either sea port. All major airline in the country flies to both airports, but Caticlan offers more options from morning to evening.

Hence, if you’re coming from Manila, the fastest and easiest way to Boracay is by flying to Caticlan Airport.

Boracay Caticlan Airport Arrivals Terminal

But if budget is limited and you have a lot of time, you may take an overnight ferry from Batangas Port to Caticlan, too.

Caticlan to Boracay

Caticlan Airport to Boracay Tricycle Terminal

If flying to Caticlan, you will deplane at the Arrivals Terminal located on the other end and on the other side of the runway, far from the Departures Terminal. After collecting your luggage, exit the terminal building and book a tricycle to Caticlan Jetty Port or Tabon Port. The driver knows which port to go to. We have a more detailed transfer guide here: Caticlan Airport to Boracay .

  • Fare: PHP 150 per tricycle, maximum of 2 passengers or PHP 75 per person.
  • Travel time: 10 minutes.

It doesn’t need to be a tricycle ride. If you want a more comfortable, hassle-free experience, consider booking a packaged transfer service. Aside from the air-conditioned van transfer from Caticlan Airport to the jetty port, you will also be assisted through the port processes and the driver can help you with your luggage. The price already includes the van airport transfer, boat crossing, and multi-cab hotel transfer.

✅ CHECK TRANSFER PACKAGE RATES HERE!

Van Transfer Boracay to Caticlan Port

If you’d rather travel on your own, upon arrival at the jetty port, enter the building and follow these steps:

  • Find the Documents Check counter and fill out the Tourist Arrival Form. Only one per group is needed to queue up and accomplish the form. But the staff will check the IDs of ALL passengers and hotel booking. The number of passengers must match the number of guests in the hotel booking. Once cleared, you’ll be given a slip.
  • Pay the fees. Here are the current rates: – Terminal Fee: Regular, PHP 150; Seniors/PWD/Student, PHP 120; Kids 5yo and below, FREE – Environmental Fee: Local, PHP 150; Foreigner, PHP 300 – Boat Fee: PHP 50 For a regular domestic tourist, the total amounts to P350, one-way.
  • Proceed to the Boarding Area. You’ll need to fill out the form on the boat stub. Once accomplished, exchange the boat stub with a boat seat number.
  • Board your assigned boat and find your seat. The ride to the island should not take more than 20 minutes. Depending on the season and the weather, the boat will land at either Cagban Port or Tambisaan Port. The process is the same regardless.
  • Ride an e-Trike or multi-cab to your hotel. The fare depends on the location of your hotel. – e-Trike fare: If shared, PHP 15-50 per person. If special/chartered trip, PHP 100-400 per e-trike. You’ll find the full fare matrix for e-trikes below. – Multi-cab fare: PHP 250 to Station 2 per vehicle, maximum of 10 pax.

Kalibo Airport to Boracay

Bus and Van Service from Kalibo to Caticlan Port

If you’re coming in via Kalibo, the first step is to make it to Caticlan Jetty Port, and from there, the process is the same. Here are your options to get from Kalibo Airport to Caticlan:

  • OPTION A: LOCAL BUS. Take a tricycle to the bus terminal and board a Ceres bus bound for Caticlan. Fare: PHP 147. This is the cheapest way to reach Caticlan from Kalibo. Once at Caticlan Jetty Port, follow the steps at the previous section (Caticlan to Boracay).
  • OPTION B: TOURIST BUS/VAN. Look for “non-packaged” vans or buses that can take you directly to Caticlan Jetty Port. Fare should be only around P250. Travel time: around 2 hours. Once at Caticlan Jetty Port, follow the steps at Caticlan to Boracay section above.
  • OPTION C: PACKAGED BUS/VAN TRANSFER SERVICE. If, for whatever reason, you don’t want to do the transfers on your own, a good option is to book a packaged transfer service. Aside from the comfortable transfer from Kalibo Airport to Caticlan, the price also covers the boat crossing, terminal fee, environmental fee and HOTEL transfer. You will also be assisted through the sometimes confusing process at the jetty port. This is great for those traveling to Boracay for the first time and traveling with kids, PWDs, or elderly. You can book them on Klook, too.

Below are where you can book packaged bus/van transfer services.

Manila to Boracay by 2GO Ferry

If you don’t like flying or the airfare is too much, you can also travel by sea. Caticlan is also the gateway to Boracay for those traveling by ferry. However, there is no direct ferry from Manila to Caticlan. Instead, you’d need to make your way to Batangas Port first.

2GO Travel has overnight sailings from Batangas to Caticlan every day. The ferry leaves Batangas Port at 9pm and arrives in Caticlan at either 8am or 11am, depending on your chosen route. Some sailings involve a stop in Odiangan, Romblon, but others go directly to Caticlan.

  • Departure: 9:00 PM
  • Arrival: 8:00 AM or 11:00 AM (the next day)
  • Travel time: 11-14 hours (overnight)

We created a video showing the entire ferry process on our YouTube channel . You can also watch it below.

HOW TO GET AROUND

Boracay E-Trike

The e-tricycle or e-trike is the primary mode of transportation around the island. Most tricycles have fixed routes and will pick up or drop off passengers along the way, UNLESS you charter the entire vehicle for a “special” trip. A special trip means you’ll have the entire vehicle to yourself.

Here’s the approved e-trike fare matrix:

Boracay E-Trike Fare

If you’re on a budget, be willing to share the tricycle with other passengers. Tell the driver “individual” and they’ll know you’re not arranging a private ride. Fare should be between PHP 15 and 20, depending on the distance.

That said, if you’ll be an inconvenience to other passengers — e.g. you’re soaking wet from swimming or you have a big luggage in tow — just charter a special trip.

You may also arrange an e-trike tour of the island. Although drivers usually have a suggested itinerary, it is completely up to you. Rate is per hour, anyway. However, for island tours, only 4 pax are allowed per vehicle.

Here are the details.

Fare: P500/hour (per vehicle) Maximum of 4 pax per e-trike

Usual Stops:

  • Diniwid Beach
  • Bulabog Beach
  • Ilig-iligan Beach

By Hop-On Hop Off (HOHO)

Boracay Hop-On Hop-Off Shuttle

Boracay now has a Hop-On Hop Off (HOHO) service, operated by Southwest Tours in partnership with Top.ph. The HOHO uses air-conditioned shuttle or mini-bus units with CCTV cameras and wi-fi. It runs from Tambisaan and Cagban ports on the southern edge of the island all the way to Puka Beach in the north, making stops in Stations 1 to 3 and even Newcoast along the way. Here are the stops.

Boracay Hop On Hop Off Stops

  • Fare: PHP 13-32, depending on distance/stop.
  • Schedule: Ideally, there’s a mini-bus at any given stop every 15 minutes, from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Only cashless transactions are accepted, so you need to purchase a HOHO QR Pass before using the service. But if you feel like you’ll be using it multiple times a day, consider getting a 1-Day HOHO Unlimited Pass Card. It normally costs PHP 200, but you can get a discount if you book with Klook.

THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY

Boracay may be a small island but it is packed with natural attractions and exciting activities that travelers of all ages could enjoy. In this post, we’ll enumerate these briefly, but if you want a more detailed description of each tourist spot, you may check out our dedicated post about it: THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY .

White Beach

Boracay Station 1 Paraw

Boracay’s greatest treasure. This shining, shimmering, splendid beach is perhaps the first to come to mind when we think of Boracay. It is the island’s longest beach, measuring about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles), lined with picture-perfect coconut trees. Its biggest asset is its fine, white sand, something only a few can rival or come close to. Here are some of the activities you could enjoy at Boracay’s White Beach:

  • Swim and laze on the sand , of course.
  • Check out Willy’s Rock , the island’s iconic grotto.
  • Watch the sunset . White Beach faces west, so it’s a magnificent sunset spot.
  • Standup paddle . Rates: 30-Minute, PHP 500; 1-Hour, PHP 700. Book here!
  • Crystal kayak . Rates: PHP 250/person for 15-20 minutes.

Although crystal kayak is available at White Beach, you could enjoy it for a much lower fare at other beaches like Puka Beach.

And because White Beach faces west, it’s also a fantastic sunset watching spot! Boracay displays some of the most gorgeous sunsets in the world. No wonder a lot of tourists come waiting for it on the beach every single day.

Photo and Video Session

Friends Jump Shot in Boracay

Boracay is a fantastic place to capture wonderful moments and immortalize them in photos or videos. And now, you can easily hire a professional for a 2-hour photo/video shoot at any Station along White Beach! The bright turquoise waters in the background will make each shot breathtaking. Great for couples, families, and friends (barkada)!

✅ Book a PHOTO SHOOT here!

Island Hopping

One of the most popular activities in Boracay. Most of the island hopping packages offered are on group tour basis — meaning, you’ll be sharing a big boat with other tourists as you visit other beaches and snorkeling sites. You’ll be following a strict itinerary that you must follow, around 40-60 minutes per stop.

Tours usually start and end at Station 1 and/or Station 3. Operators also use almost identical itineraries, with only a couple of variations, usually the lunch stop and the snorkeling site. Here are the common stops and the corresponding entrance fees:

Boracay Island Hopping Itinerary

  • Puka Beach , no entrance fee
  • Snorkeling Site , PHP 45
  • Crystal Cove , PHP 300
  • Magic Island (not all tours), PHP 250

Price: PHP 800-900 per person , inclusive of buffet lunch and sometimes, use of mask. However, this does not include entrance fees and snorkeling fee.

Jump off point : Station 1 or Station 3

If it’s your first time in Boracay, go ahead and join an island hopping tour. But to be honest, if you’ve tried island hopping in other Philippine destinations like Palawan, Bohol, or Cebu, you might get a bit underwhelmed. Boracay’s key assets are within the main island itself, not so much in the smaller isles surrounding it.

tourist spot boracay

Land Tour (e-Trike or Multicab)

Another way to explore Boracay is by land. For this, you need to charter an e-trike, which costs P500 per hour (approved tariff). For an island tour, an e-trike driver is only allowed to accommodate up to 4 passengers per vehicle.

If you’re part of a bigger group, instead of hiring multiple e-trikes, consider a multi-cab instead. This was what we did on our most recent trip. A multi-cab is allowed up to 10 passengers. At P700 per hour, this ends up much cheaper and efficient.

  • E-Trike Tour PHP 500/hour Maximum of 4 pax
  • Multi-cab Tour PHP 700/hour Maximum of 10 pax

Just hail an e-trike or multi-cab at any time and tell the driver you’re interested in an island tour. Or if you’d rather have a tour arranged beforehand, here’s the contact number of the drivers we booked when we were in Boracay:

  • E-trike: Kuya Ambro +63 943 1304164
  • Multi-cab: Kuya Bong +63 939 823 8198

Unlike island hopping which has a fixed itinerary, on an e-trike or multi-cab tour, you have total control of the stops and duration. The driver usually has a suggested route, but it is completely up to you. Here are the usual stops:

Boracay Land Tour Itinerary

  • Lugutan Mangrove Park
  • Sinagpa Beach
  • Cujo’s Keyhole

None of these sites charge an entrance fee. For Lugutan Mangrove Park, however, you must register first before setting foot into the site.

D Mall Boracay

This is the center of all the action in Boracay. Located sa Station 2, D’Mall has the greatest concentration of commercial establishments, including countless shops and restaurants. As you walk across this open-air mall, you’ll be tempted by stores selling all sorts of “essentials” from souvenirs to swimming gear, and a smorgasbord of iconic snacks, from Mango Halo to Coco Mama.

One thing Boracay has that many other beach destinations in the Philippines don’t is vibrant nightlife. While it’s no longer as wild as the pre-2018 era, it’s still quite fun; thanks to its roster of party places, many of which are beachfront.

Boracay Nightlife

Some of the most popular bars and clubs are:

  • Paraw Beach Club
  • Summer Place
  • Two Brown Boys. Get 5% OFF here!

Our favorite drinking spot is Two Brown Boys , located along an inner alley near D’Mall (on the other side of the main road). It’s an island institution whipping out servings of its signature cocktails alongside giant burgers.

WHERE TO EAT IN BORACAY

Boracay Two Seasons Four Cheese Pizza

If there’s one reason I love coming back to Boracay — other than the beach itself — it’s absolutely the food. While the island doesn’t have a globally revered traditional cuisine, it is bursting at the seams with reputable restaurants and food spots. Whatever you’re craving, you’ll probably find it in the island: Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Indian, East Asian, Middle Eastern, and of course, Filipino food.

We wrote a separate, more comprehensive article describing some of the most popular restaurants in the island that we were able to try. READ: BORACAY TOP RESTAURANTS !

But here’s a short list of our top recommendations. We’re also including links to discount vouchers that you could avail of via Klook:

  • Nonie’s . Get up to 15% OFF here! ✅
  • Little Taj . Get up to 15% OFF here! ✅
  • Two Brown Boys . Get 5% OFF here! ✅
  • Dos Mestizos
  • Pigout Bistro
  • Barlo (Two Seasons Resort)

BarLo’s four-cheese pizza and sizzling oyster sisig are especially popular, so make sure you arrive early if you want to try it.

Boracay Ice Desserts

Boracay is also known for its iconic desserts and snacks, including:

  • Ice Flakes . Our favorite! Order the mango or coconut bowls. Get 10% OFF here! ✅
  • Halo Mango . Order mango ice cup (P250), crushed ice topped with real mango chunks and mango soft serve.
  • Jonah’s Fruit Shake . Has several stores along White Beach.
  • Coco Mama . Vegan coconut ice cream with real coconut strands and mango chunks, sprinkled with rice crispies.
  • Ube Mama . Ube ice cream with ube pudding strands and palitaw balls, crowned with cornflakes.
  • Real Coffee and Tea . Try its calamansi muffins (P70 apiece).

Admittedly, however, most of the well-known Boracay restaurants are on the expensive side. But it doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find budget eateries. We created a dedicated post enumerating affordable food spots in the island. READ: BORACAY AFFORDABLE RESTAURANTS!

HOW EXPENSIVE IS BORACAY?

While Boracay may be considered cheap by Western standards, it is much pricier than most other island destinations in the Philippines.

Boracay Prices Grocery Items Drinks

To compare, let’s use the Big Mac Index. In Boracay, the price of a Big Mac (solo) at McDonald’s is PHP 188 , which is PHP 17 costlier than the price in Manila and PHP 33 higher than in Batangas.

Same with Andok’s whole chicken, which costs PHP 405 in Boracay but only PHP 365 in many other places in the Philippines.

BORACAY BEACH SAFETY & RULES

Authorities strictly implement a number of policies throughout White Beach, including:

  • NO drinking of alcohol
  • NO illegal drugs
  • NO littering
  • NO loud music
  • NO fire dancing
  • NO pitching of umbrella
  • NO beach beds/chairs
  • NO taking home of sand

Safety first, so don’t dismiss the warning flags that are raised at specific spots along the beach. Here’s what each color means:

Boracay Beach Flag Warnings

  • Red with white line: No swimming (water closed to the public)
  • Plain red: No swimming (high hazard)
  • Purple: Dangerous marine life
  • Yellow: Be cautious (medium hazard)
  • Green: Safe to swim

Stating the obvious: if you don’t know how to swim, always wear a life vest!

Boracay has a hospital. And you’ll find a number of tourist police stations along White Beach and other areas. But take note of these emergency numbers:

  • Hotline: 106
  • Globe: 09630359648
  • Smart: 09198514102

SAMPLE BORACAY ITINERARY

Here’s a sample Boracay long weekend itinerary that you may pattern your own after. It assumes you’re a party of 4 , splitting the cost of accommodations and other expenses. Feel free to adjust in order to match your flight schedules, tastes, and needs.

  • DAY 1: ARRIVAL & LAND TOUR 09:00 am – Arrival at Caticlan Airport 09:20 am – Tricycle to Jetty Port, P75 09:40 am – Go through registration/verification 09:50 am – Pay fees: P150 terminal fee, P50 ticket, P150 environmental fee 10:10 am – Boarding 10:30 am – Arrival in Boracay 10:45 am – E-trike to resort, P37.50 (P150/4pax) 11:00 am – Hotel checkin or drop bags 11:30 am – Lunch, P200 01:00 pm – Land Tour for 4 hours, P500/pax 05:00 pm – Back to hotel, freshen up 07:00 pm – Dinner, P200 08:00 pm – Back to hotel
  • DAY 2: ISLAND HOPPING 08:00 am – Wake up call, breakfast 09:30 am – Island hopping tour, P1245, Book here! 03:00 pm – End tour 03:30 pm – Crystal kayak, P250 04:30 pm – Swim and watch sunset 06:30 pm – Back to hotel, freshen up 07:30 pm – Dinner, P200 09:00 pm – Pasalubong shopping 10:30 pm – Back to hotel
  • DAY 3: WHITE BEACH & DEPARTURE 6:00 am – Wake up call 07:00 am – Swimming at Station 1, Photo at Willy’s Rock 8:30 am – Jonah’s fruit shake, P175 09:00 am – Back to hotel, freshen up 10:00 am – Breakfast at hotel 11:45 am – Pick up bags at hotel reception 12:00 pm – E-trike to port, P37.50 (P150/4pax) 12:30 pm – Pay terminal fee and boat fee, P150 + P50 1:45 pm – Tricycle to Caticlan Airport, P20 2:00 pm – Flight check in 3:30 pm – Flight out

The itinerary above will cost you a minimum of PHP 3490 (USD 63, EUR 57.75, SGD 85) , excluding flights and hotel.

But please add plenty of allowance to accommodate any price adjustments and other possible incidental expenses. I recommend allocating at least PHP 3,990 (USD 72, EUR 66, SGD 97) for this itinerary.

If you’re able to snag a room with daily breakfast for PHP 1500/night/person, prepare a total of PHP 6990 (USD 126.20, EUR 115.60, SGD 169.60) , excluding airfare.

You can still reduce the costs further if you skip the island hopping altogether and have a full-day land tour instead on DAY 2.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the best time to visit boracay.

November to May is the best time to visit Boracay.

tourist spot boracay

Weather-wise, the months of February to May are the driest, which means there’s very little chance that unexpected showers would ruin your itinerary. However, it is also considered high season (peaking during Holy Week), so prepare to share the island with thousands of tourists!

Boracay Algae

The April-June period is also the peak of algal bloom at White Beach. In these months, the waters near the shore are covered by algae. Based on our most recent visits, March is when the algae is starting to make an appearance although not yet noticeable. It’s totally inescapable in April and May. By early July, the algae should be gone.

If you don’t like big crowds and algal bloom but you also want a relatively pleasant weather, November to February is the most ideal time to visit as long as you stay away from the days leading to Christmas and New Year.

Is Boracay safe?

Yes, Boracay is generally safe.

Like many touristy destinations, there are overcharging practices here and there, but scams are not as rampant as in other beach destinations in Southeast Asia. It’s also best to keep an eye on your belongings and don’t leave them just anywhere.

Again, take note of these emergency contact numbers:

What type of power plug / socket is used in Boracay?

Electricity Info: 220V, 60Hz. Plug and socket Type A.

tourist spot boracay

What is the tipping custom in Boracay?

Just like in other places in the Philippines, tipping is NOT mandatory in Boracay. Restaurant bills usually include a service charge but it does not always go to the servers.

If you enjoyed the service, feel free to tip. A tip of 5-10% of the bill is generally well-appreciated.

Are there ATMs in Boracay?

YES, lots. You’ll fine most of them along the main road near Stations 1-3 and around D’Mall.

There are also money changers and Western Union branches throughout the same area.

Are drones allowed in Boracay?

YES, but you need to secure a special permit from the local government. The permit will specify the dates and times when and the areas where you can use your drone.

Example: This special permit is granted to Yosh Dimen to use his drone only at the front beach on June 15 and 17, from 6am to 6pm only.

The last time we checked, permit fee was PHP 1300 per day. It’s a bit steep, but you know what’s steeper? Fines. If you’re caught flying your drone without a permit, you’ll be fined around double the permit fee.

Only a limited number of drone permits are issued per day.

How to get back from Boracay to Caticlan Airport?

Boracay Night Boat

It’s easy. Just trace your steps back:

  • Ride an e-trike to either Tambisaan or Cagban Port , whichever is operational at the time. If you’re coming from Station 2, it should be PHP 150 for a private ride.
  • At the port, pay the terminal fee and boat fare , which cost PHP 150 and PHP 50 respectively. You’ll be given a boat card with a seat number.
  • Board the assigned boat and find your seat on board . Travel time is 20 minutes.
  • At Caticlan Jetty Port, find the tricycle terminal and ride one to Caticlan Airport . It should take just 2-3 minutes because the airport’s departure terminal is very close. If you don’t have heavy luggage in tow, you could even travel on foot to get there.

It just gets more complicated at night. If your flight is scheduled in the late evening or early morning, expect to wait longer at the Cagban/Tambisaan Port. Within these hours, boats to the mainland are few and far between. Below was the timetable when we visited in July 2023. This may have changed already.

Boracay Night Boat Schedule

That said, if there are enough passengers, the boat will leave as soon as it is full.

Bottom line, add plenty of time allowance when traveling back to the mainland at night.

When it comes to beaches, you simply can’t talk about paradise without mentioning the Philippines.

Made up of over 7,641 islands with seemingly endless shorelines, the Philippines truly is a beach lover’s dream.

From the famous white-sand beauty of Boracay to the hidden coves and bays waiting to be discovered, the country has some of the most stunning beaches not just in Southeast Asia, but all over the world!!

In this post, I’ll be sharing my personal list of 15 must-visit beaches that should not be missed when you travel to the Philippines.

These beaches have stood out to me as some of the best for clear waters, soft powdery sand, lush backdrops, and overall natural beauty and vibrancy.

Let’s get right to it and I’ll tell you why each of these spots is a true tropical paradise found.

<p>Lambug Beach in Badian, Cebu, is a secret beach spot perfect for anyone who loves the ocean but doesn’t want crowds. White Beach and Motag Living Museum

When it comes to white sand beaches in the Philippines , the world-famous Boracay Island in Aklan is always at the top of the must-visit list of publications and travelers. But there’s more to the province of Aklan than just the white sand beaches of Boracay.

More than a gateway to the famed Boracay Island, Aklan province boasts other must-see attractions in the Western Visayas region where Aklan is located. Kalibo is the capital of Aklan, which sits less than 80km from Boracay, as shown in the Aklan map.

Aklan is also home to the colorful Ati-Atihan Festival, an underrated beach, mangrove parks, waterfalls, rivers, and other natural wonders that deserve a spot in your Philippine vacation itinerary .

The best time to visit the Philippines is all year round, but ideally, Boracay and other Aklan tourist spots are best experienced during the dry season, from December to May. Check out our 2023 calendar with holidays in the Philippines to know the best time to plan your trip.

For domestic flights bound for Boracay airport , the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport or Caticlan Airport in Caticlan is your main jump-off point to the island. While most international flights land at Kalibo Airport, you still need to travel to Caticlan and ride a Boracay airport transfer to Caticlan Jetty Port.

Liktinon White Rocks

One of the underrated Aklan tourist attractions is the Liktinon White Rocks, an eco-tourism site at the heart of a mountain forest in Madalag, Aklan.

Surrounding the lush landscape are huge boulders with crystal clear waters gushing down from the Aklan River Watershed Forest Reserve, one of the inland tourist spots in Libacao, Aklan.

To get there, ride a private van transfer from Kalibo, which is 40km away. Afterward, you have to trek the rocky shallows of the Timbaban River.

Pagatpat Mangrove Park

Aside from island-hopping in the Philippines , you can go sightseeing on your Aklan tour, one of the many things to do in Aklan. You can stroll along the bamboo bridge at Pagatpat Mangrove Park or rest inside the nipa huts with karaoke machines. The mangrove park has access to the sea, where you can dip or soak up your feet.

The inspiration for this museum came from the Open Air Museum Ballenberg in Brienz, Switzerland. As such, the Motag Living Museum is the Philippines’ first-ever interactive museum that portrays Aklanon’s local farming practices, such as rice grinding and basket weaving.

According to the locals, the Tigayon Hill served as the former sanctuary of freedom fighters back in the day.  On top of the hill is a small chapel overlooking the panoramic views of the nearby river. Nabas Wind Farm is perched on the foothills of Baranggay Pawa, Nabas, Aklan. The next time you visit Boracay, be on the lookout for the gigantic wind turbines visible from the White Beach area.

Nabas Wind Farm is part of the sustainable development projects in the province. With the help of Petro Wind Energy Inc. (PWEI), it continues to supply renewable energy to the Visayas Grid and provides electricity to remote households in Aklan since 2015.

To get there, you need to ride a bus or van bound for Kalibo from Caticlan Jetty Port. You can ask the driver to drop you off at the Nabas - Unidos Crossing. Then, ride a habal-habal and traverse the 5km uphill road to the windmill mountain peak.

Aside from secluded beaches, the town of Buruanga in Aklan is also home to natural attractions, including the eco-tourism destination at Hacienda Maria, which is located in Sitio Sapsapon, Brgy. Tigum.

Getting there will require you to trek two kilometers up a steep mountain. Once you reach the place, you’ll get mesmerized by how enchanting the waterfalls look. Then, take a refreshing dip in the cold waters that are over 10 feet deep.

Hacienda Maria has two caves with magnificent stalactite and stalagmite formations inside. However, if you're not in the mood to dip in waterfalls outside the caves, you can opt for a hot pot jacuzzi filled with lukewarm water, local limes, and herbal leaves.

If you get hungry, you can drop by the restaurant and have some barbecue with free-flowing drinks. The best thing about visiting Ariel’s Point is you can rent a small pump boat and visit other beaches in Buruanga, such as Hinugtan Beach and Naasog Point.
