UAE residence cancelled

How to cancel your residence visa in the UAE

  • Basic Information

A UAE residence visa grants an individual the legal right to live, work, invest and access many government services and financial facilities in the country. However, it must be cancelled officially if you plan to leave the country permanently. Here is everything you need to know about the UAE visa cancellation process.

BASIC INFORMATION ON THE UAE VISA CANCELLATION PROCEDURE

Who can cancel your residence visa in the uae.

The individual/organisation who has sponsored you can cancel your residence visa. If you hold a UAE property investor visa or any other type of investor visa, you can initiate the process on your own.

HOW CAN A COMPANY APPLY FOR THE UAE RESIDENCE VISA CANCELLATION?

If your sponsor is a company, they must first apply for the cancellation of your labour card and contract at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE). Your signature is mandatory on this application. Once they get a response from MOHRE, they can apply for visa cancellation via the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP).

Your company must cancel your work permit as well. However, this can’t be done without a letter signed by you stating that you have received your dues, gratuity, repatriation expenses and other benefits that you and your company agreed upon.

Cancelling UAE residence visa online

The UAE visa cancellation process takes around 48 hours. However, there may be exceptions depending on public holidays or employer terms.

The validity of the visa depends upon its type and sponsor. If you hold a residence visa, refer to the Dubai visa status check by passport number to confirm its validity.

If you have a UAE residence visa and have been outside the country for more than six months, your visa will be cancelled. In this case, you cannot enter the country with your residence visa and will have to either get a visit visa or visa-on-arrival, depending on your nationality and country of residence.

However, if you’re employed by a company in the UAE and leave without resigning and following procedures, you risk being reported as an absconding person. This can lead to a travel ban, meaning you will be unable to enter the UAE and risk being arrested upon entry.

You must also pay off any loans, bills and other liabilities before leaving, as not doing these can risk legal consequences. We recommend following this procedure and collecting your visa cancellation proof (a stamp or paper) before leaving the UAE.

FAQs about the UAE visa cancellation process

What is the uae visa cancellation grace period.

The grace period to leave the UAE after the cancellation of the residency visa is between 60 and 180 days, depending upon the visa category.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY EMIRATES ID WHEN THE RESIDENCE IS CANCELLED?

Previously, one could keep their Emirates ID even after cancelling UAE Residence. However, you will be asked to submit your Emirates ID to the GDRFA after cancelling your UAE Residence now. You must also submit your Emirates ID if switching jobs and changing your sponsor.

Note that after cancelling your UAE residence visa, your employer will be covering your medical insurance for the duration of the grace period. Since medical insurance is mandatory for living in the UAE, this will usually be active throughout your grace period.

CAN I RENEW MY UAE TOURIST VISA?

Yes, you can, given that you follow all the protocols for a Dubai tourist visa extension .

CAN I CANCEL MY UAE RESIDENCE VISA IF I’M OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY?

If you’re on an employment visa, contact your employers and request they cancel it. Talk to them about any liabilities or penalties, if applicable, make sure they cancel your residence. If your employer refuses to cancel your residence visa, contact the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) to resolve the issue.

Please note that if you work for a freezone company in the UAE, both employer and employee must meet at the company’s headquarters to terminate the contract. For this, you should carry your passport and Emirates ID and get your UAE residence cancelled.

If you want to cancel a family member’s visa (dependent visa), you can easily do so without needing them in the country. All you need is a copy of the passport, Emirates ID, and the application typed out. You can do this from one of the typing centres in Dubai, and it will cost you AED 266, along with additional typing charges.

DO I HAVE TO EXIT THE UAE TO EXTEND MY STAY AFTER THE GRACE PERIOD?

After your UAE residence visa has been cancelled, you do not have to leave the country to extend your stay. You can apply for a tourist visa while in the country and pay the required charges (depending on the days you intend to stay).

That brings an end to our guide on the UAE visa cancellation process. Make sure to learn the latest guidelines for residency visas in the UAE before making any final decision. To cancel your tourist/visit visa, your sponsor must request that it be cancelled and pay the cancellation fee. A few of the reasons you might need to cancel a UAE tourist, visit, or leisure visa are:

  • You realize that you need to stay longer than the duration of the visit visa you applied for.
  • Your company or spouse/family is applying for a resident permit for you (In this situation, it becomes mandatory to cancel the visit or tourist visa by paying the fee or else your residence permit can get rejected.)

This can be done while you are inside the country without the need to exit UAE.

Outside UAE

Individuals outside of the UAE don't need to apply for a visa change. Instead, they have to contact their visa provider, like Arabiers, to contact the sponsor to approve the visa cancellation.

  • Applicant’s original passport
  • Sponsor’s original Emirati Identity Card
  • Fully-filled cancellation form with sponsor's signature

ENQUIRE NOW

Who Can Cancel Your Residence Visa in the UAE?

The process begins with identifying who can actually cancel your visa. If you're sponsored by an individual or an organization, they are responsible for initiating the visa cancellation. For those holding an investor visa, you have the autonomy to start the process independently.

Company-Sponsored Visa Cancellation

For those sponsored by a company, there's a specific procedure that needs to be followed:

Cancellation of Labour Card and Contract: The sponsoring company must apply to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) for the cancellation of your labour card and employment contract. Your signature is essential on this application, marking your agreement and acknowledgment of the process.

Application to Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP): Following the response from MOHRE, the company can proceed to apply for visa cancellation through the ICP. This step is pivotal and marks the formal initiation of your visa cancellation.

Work Permit Cancellation: Alongside, your work permit needs cancellation. This cannot proceed without your written consent, confirming that you've received all your dues, gratuity, repatriation expenses, and any other benefits agreed upon with your employer.

Process to Cancel Residence Visa via GDRFA Dubai

With the primary steps taken by your sponsor, the next phase involves your direct action:

Receiving Clearance Statement: Once the above documents are canceled, you'll receive a clearance statement. This is crucial for generating a visa cancellation request at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai .

Cancelling Dependants' Visas: If you have dependants under your residence visa, their visas must be canceled before you can finalize your own visa cancellation. This can be done in two ways:

Visiting a Typing Centre: For a more hands-on approach, visiting a typing centre can facilitate the process.

Online through GDRFA: For convenience, the GDRFA's official website offers an online process to cancel dependants' visas.

Key Considerations

Ensure All Dues Are Cleared: Before initiating the visa cancellation, make sure all financial dues, loans, and other obligations are settled. This prevents any legal complications during the process.

Check for Ban Status: In some cases, visa cancellation might lead to an automatic imposition of an exit ban, especially if there are unresolved financial or legal issues. It's crucial to verify your status to avoid surprises.

Document Collection: Collect all relevant documents, including your passport, visa, clearance statement, and any other paperwork required by GDRFA or your sponsor.

For added convenience, the ICP offers a mobile app available for both Apple and Android users. This app allows you to request visa cancellation directly from your smartphone. The process is similar to the online and typing centre methods, ensuring a user-friendly experience with the added benefit of mobility.

Important Considerations:

Visa Validity Check: It's essential to know the validity of your residence visa, especially if you've been outside the UAE for more than six months. A visa status check can be done online using your passport number.

Consequences of Leaving Without Proper Resignation: Exiting the UAE without resigning properly and completing the necessary exit procedures can lead to being marked as absconding. This situation carries severe consequences, including a travel ban and possible arrest upon attempting to re-enter the UAE.

Settling Financial Obligations: Before leaving, ensure all loans, bills, and financial liabilities are cleared. Failing to do so can lead to legal issues and impede your ability to leave the country smoothly.

Collect Visa Cancellation Proof: Always make sure to obtain physical proof of your visa cancellation, such as a stamp or paper document, before departing the UAE. This serves as crucial evidence of your legal status and can prevent future complications.

If you wish to cancel a family member's visa (dependent visa), you may do it without having them in the country. All you need is a photocopy of your passport, Emirates ID, and a written application. You may accomplish this at one of Dubai's typing facilities for AED 266, plus extra typing expenses.

Do I need to exit the UAE to extend my stay after the grace period?

After your UAE resident visa has been cancelled, you are not required to leave the country to prolong your stay. You may apply for a tourist visa while in the country and pay the necessary fees (depending on how long you want to stay).

That concludes our guidance to the UAE visa cancellation procedure. Before making a final choice, make sure you understand the most recent criteria for resident permits in the UAE. If you have any issues about your UAE resident visa cancellation, please contact the General Directory of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) at 600-522-222.

Cancelling an Employment Visa

If you are leaving Dubai permanently, your employer must cancel your work permit and labour contract with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) . This is an essential first step, as your residence visa can only be cancelled once the work permit is revoked.

To get visa cancellation of the work permit , your employer will need the following:

  • Your signature on the visa cancellation application form
  • A letter from you confirming receipt of all due salary, leave salary, gratuity payments, and other end-of-service benefits.
  • Approval from MoHRE to cancel the labour contract
  • Application to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP) to officially cancel the residence visa

It is crucial to ensure your employer has settled all financial dues and provided an air ticket home before initiating the cancellation process.

If you are changing jobs within Dubai, your current employer must still cancel your existing work permit before you leave the country, and your new employer can apply for a new work permit and visa on your behalf. To avoid any complications or employment ban, obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your current employer, clearly consenting to the cancellation of your work permit.

Cancelling a family visa.

As the sponsor of family members in Dubai, you must cancel their residence visas before you can cancel your residency visa . This rule applies even if your family members have already exited the country.

Suppose your spouse is working in Dubai independently on their employment visa. In that case, their company must cancel their work permit and residence visa.

It is advisable to check the visa status of all dependents to ensure cancellation has been completed before initiating your own visa cancellation process.

Cancelling Investor, Student, Tourist and Other Visas

For people in Dubai on other types of visas, such as investor , student, tourist visa, or temporary visas, the cancellation process can usually be handled digitally. Options include using the ICP website or smart app or visiting an Amer Service Center .

The applicant must submit all compulsory documents, pay the applicable visa cancellation fees, and obtain the official visa and cancellation fee approval letter by email. The entire process may take 1-2 working days for most visa types.

Grace Periods for Exit after Cancellation

Once a visa has been officially cancelled, the visa holder will have a specified grace period to either exit Dubai or secure a new visa. Overstaying beyond the grace period can lead to daily fines.

For residents sponsored by employers or family, the grace period is 30 days from the date of the cancellation confirmation letter.

Visit visa holders have a shorter grace period of only ten days. It is important to stay within this timeframe to avoid incurring any fines.

Some other select long-term residence visas, such as the Green Visa , have a 6-month grace period. Visa holders should check the regulations for their specific visa category.

Documents Required for Visa Cancellation

To successfully cancel a visa in Dubai , individuals are required to submit certain documents. The key documents include:

  • Original passport
  • Original Emirates ID card
  • Visa cancellation application form signed by the sponsor
  • Copy of sponsor’s passport
  • No liability certificate from the bank
  • Entry permit copy, if applicable
  • Death certificate, if the visa holder is deceased

Additional documents may be needed depending on visa validity and the specific situation. It is advisable to check the requirements before visiting any visa cancellation service centres.

Pre-Cancellation Checklist

Before fully completing the visa cancellation process, it is important to finalise certain matters to avoid future complications:

  • Settle any outstanding utility bills and close accounts
  • Terminate tenancy contract properly and vacate accommodation
  • Sell or make arrangements to transfer vehicles
  • Close bank accounts and obtain no liability letter
  • Check visa and health insurance validity period
  • Obtain educational certificates for children
  • Settle any debts and obtain clearances
  • Consult a lawyer or tax advisor about any liabilities

Using this checklist will help ensure a smooth departure from Dubai.

Confirming Visa Cancellation

It is highly recommended to double-check the employment visa cancellation status on the ICP website before taking any major steps, such as closing bank accounts or booking return flights. Although rare, there can be errors in the system, so verifying cancellation helps avoid problems.

Those travelling outside Dubai waiting for visa cancellation approval should be cautious about re-entry, even within the grace period. There have been instances where individuals were denied entry as the system still showed an active visa.

With proper planning and diligently following procedures, the visa cancellation process in Dubai can be completed smoothly. Paying attention to detail and getting assistance from qualified professionals is key to avoiding complications when cancelling your UAE visa .

visa cancellation before stamping

How to cancel residence visa?

To initiate visa cancellation before stamping, your sponsor, usually your employer, must follow specific procedures. This process applies to both employment and family visas.

For Employment Visa Cancellation

  • Employer’s Responsibility. Your employer begins by applying to cancel your work permit (Labour Card) at the Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation.
  • Electronic Submission. The employer electronically attaches necessary documents, including a signed confirmation from you that all dues have been received.
  • Ministry Processing. The Ministry processes the application temporarily and forwards the details to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).
  • GDRFA Action. The GDRFA cancels your Residence Visa and informs the Ministry, leading to the permanent cancellation of your UAE work permit .
  • Additional Requirement. Alongside the work permit cancellation application, your employer must submit a letter signed by you, confirming the receipt of all wages, settlements, and benefits.

For Job Change Without Leaving the Country

  • Employer’s Role. If changing jobs without leaving the UAE, your current employer must cancel your work permit.
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC). Obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your current employer, allowing the transfer of sponsorship to the new employer.
  • Potential Employment Ban. If the current employer refuses, an employment ban may be imposed, ranging from six months to one year.
  • Provide Cancellation Paper. Give the UAE visa cancellation before stamping paper to your new employer for processing a new work permit on your behalf.

For Family Visa Cancellation

  • Sponsor’s Responsibility. As the sponsor of family members on a Family Visa, it is your responsibility to cancel their UAE Residence Visas.
  • Prior to Your Cancellation. Ensure that you cancel your dependents’ visas before your own UAE visa cancellation before stamping.

Where to Cancel UAE Residence Visa

Your sponsor can cancel your UAE visa through:

  • In-person. Visit a GDRFA typing center in your emirate. The center processes the application online. However, you can need to know “how to check UAE visa cancellation status online”.
  • Use the websites of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship or relevant GDRFA emirate. This is the key to know “how to check UAE visa cancellation status online”.

Residence Visa Cancellation Outside UAE (Longer Than Six Months):

So, you know all about the visa cancellation status. If abroad for over six months, your Residence Visa is automatically canceled. Upon return, reapply for an Entry Permit. However, leaving without formalities may lead to absconding reports and legal consequences upon re-entry.

Required Documents for UAE Visa Cancellation

When you need to know how to cancel visa in UAE, your sponsor must submit:

  • Residence visa cancellation before stamping form signed by the sponsor.
  • Your original passport and ID card.
  • If the sponsor is also your employer, include Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation approval.

UAE Visa Cancellation fees

Cost varies but typically ranges from AED 100 – AED 200. Your sponsor covers the cancellation costs.

How many days for visa cancellation in UAE?

Usually, the process takes 1-2 working days. If canceling the Labour Card, add an extra working day. This is essential if you want to know “how to cancel visa in UAE”.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Cancelling UAE Visa:

Before leaving the UAE, ensure to:

  • Close Bank Account. Close your bank account and settle all financial matters.
  • Salary and Benefits. Receive all salaries, benefits, and settlements. Do not sign confirmation letters without proper receipt.
  • Utility Bills. Pay all outstanding utility bills.
  • Tenancy Contract. Cancel your tenancy contract.
  • Vehicle Sale. If you own a car, consider selling it.

Understanding and adhering to these steps is vital to ensure a smooth and legal process of UAE visa cancellation before stamping. Always consult official sources for the latest information.

Employment Visa Cancellation: A Detailed Guide

If you have worked in the UAE under an Employment visa, canceling it involves two essential steps: Labor card cancellation and Resident visa cancellation before stamping. However, canceling the Labor card requires a separate application submitted to the Ministry of Labor. Another application, submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cancels the Employment visa. Your visa sponsor (employer) must handle this process, requiring various documents such as an Original ID card, a copy of your current passport, and more.

To navigate Employment visa cancellation before stamping smoothly, adhere to your company’s resignation procedure and maintain compliance with UAE laws .

The Procedure of Employment Visa Cancellation in UAE

  • Application Submission: Print the application at a service center or online (Ministry’s e-forms program – GDRFA/smart channel).
  • Authorization: The sponsor or authorized signatory must sign the application.
  • Document Submission: Provide the relevant documents to initiate the process.
  • Temporary Labor Card Cancellation: Cancel the labor card temporarily at the Ministry of Labor and forward the information electronically to GDRFA for the resident visa permit cancellation.
  • Visit GDRFA: The sponsor or an authorized representative visits the General Directorate of Residency & Foreign Affairs.
  • Permanent Labor Card Cancellation: GDRFA sends electronic confirmation to permanently cancel the labor card.
  • Employment Visa Cancellation Fee: AED 100 – 200

Family Visa Cancellation: A Simple Process

Canceling a Family visa as a sponsor can be done through an authorized typing center or the immigration office.

Typing centers or Amer/Tasheel centers handle the cancelation form and submit it online, usually receiving approval within an hour. While the cancelation copy printout is sufficient, if you prefer a cancelation stamp in the passport, you can do so at the immigration branch office.

Required Documents for Family Visa Cancellation:

  • Original Passport of Sponsored and Sponsor
  • Original Emirates ID of the sponsor
  • Filled Application (e-Vision form)
  • Family visa cancellation before stamping Fee: AED 200 – 250

Tourist Visa Cancellation Simplified

Tourist visa holders often wonder about the need to cancel their unused, valid visas. The UAE immigration grants a 60-day validity, automatically rendering the visa invalid after this period, eliminating the need for cancellation and associated fees.

However, if you applied for a shorter stay than planned or your company or family is processing a resident entry permit, canceling the existing visa is mandatory. The sponsor can initiate this process when needed, bearing the applicable fee.

  • Tourist Visa Cancellation Fee: AED 150-200

Navigating Life Post-Cancellation

After Employment or Family visa cancellation, those wishing to extend their stay in the UAE have several options. Resigning employees, those relocating, or sending family members home can opt for a new tourist or visit visa.

Upon visa cancellation before stamping, a 28-day grace period is granted. Subsequently, one can:

  • Fly Out or Return Home: Purchase a three-way ticket or a two-way ticket with a return dummy ticket, providing flexibility for a new visa application.
  • Visa Run: Visit Oman for a visa run, obtaining a 30 or 90-day tourist visa based on your nationality.
  • Airport-to-Airport Visa Change: Opt for this method to exit the country, pay fines for overstaying, and return with a new tourist visa.
  • Inside Country Visa: Stay in the UAE without exiting, as the visa provider manages paperwork for a new visa.

Consequences of Incomplete Visa Cancellation

Leaving the UAE without properly canceling an employment visa can have severe consequences. Staying outside the UAE for over six consecutive months automatically cancels the resident visa. Re-entry with the same visa becomes impossible after six months.

Failure to complete proper cancellation may result in being reported as absconding, leading to a UAE ban, visa application rejections, and potential airport arrests. Always prioritize proper visa cancellation before stamping and collect proof before leaving the UAE to prevent future complications with visa applications.

UAE Visa Cancellation after 6 Months: Unraveling the Process

So, how to check visa cancellation status in UAE? For various reasons, one might be unable to return to the UAE within six months, leading to the automatic invalidation of the resident visa. Despite its invalid status, the previous visa must be properly canceled for future travel. Those who left without informing the sponsor must engage with the company for an amicable solution.

Upon canceling the expired residence visa, a company or family member can apply for a new one. This involves obtaining an entry permit, undergoing a medical test, and completing Emirates ID and visa stamping. Individuals seeking a tourist/visit visa can apply through an agent or family sponsorship, later changing the visa status to a residence visa with the necessary procedures. For this reason, you know how to check visa cancellation status in UAE.

What are the visa cancellation charges?

Canceling a family visa when the sponsor is in the UAE is straightforward. Using a typing center, sponsors can submit the necessary documents without visiting the immigration department. Required documents include the sponsor’s original passport and Emirates ID, the applicant’s original passport, and a typed application form. Application fees amount to Dh266, with additional typing charges. While a cancellation stamp on the visa page is optional, sponsors can visit the nearest immigration branch for a fee-free stamp.

While outside the UAE, canceling an employment visa can be challenging, as it requires collaboration with the current visa sponsor. Genuine reasons can facilitate visa cancellation before stamping, but resolving issues or debts with the company becomes more challenging when abroad.

Freezone Visa Cancellation: The Dual Presence Requirement

Canceling a Freezone company contract demands both employer and employee presence at the Freezone headquarters. This ensures a mutual agreement on contract termination, with compliance to all rules. Initiating the cancellation process mandates carrying the original passport and Emirates ID card. This meticulous approach safeguards the interests of both parties involved.

  • UAE visa holders with expiration dates between March and December 2020 receive an automatic extension until December 31. Exit or employment acquisition is required for a new visa.
  • Holders with visas expiring before March 1 get a three-month grace period from May 18 to August 18, 2020. No overstay fines apply during this period. Options include leaving the country or securing a new visa.
  • Employees facing visa cancellation before stamping post-March 1 receive a 30-day grace period. Exiting the country, securing new employment, or applying for a UAE tourist visa are viable options. Tourist visas are issued within the UAE but not for those applying from abroad.
  • Domestic workers and dependents on a Family visa benefit from an automatic renewal until December 31 for visas expiring after March 31.

May 13, 2020

May 10, 2020

  • Expatriates overstaying due to border closures can register at the FAIC portal for a three-month grace period starting May 18, 2020. Fines related to ID cards, labor cards, and expired work permits are waived. The FAIC urges timely exit before legal actions ensue.

April 15, 2020

  • In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE government extends the validity of resident visas, entry permits, and Emirates Identity cards expiring after March 1. The extension, applicable until December 31, 2020, facilitates various transactions for both locals and expat residents.

Essential Considerations Before UAE visa cancellation before stamping

  • Before initiating the visa cancellation before stamping process and bidding farewell to the UAE, meticulous attention to several critical aspects is imperative. Any oversight may lead to the rejection of subsequent tourist or residence visa applications. Therefore, it is crucial to adhere to the following guidelines:
  • Firstly, ensure the proper closure of your bank account. This entails settling all outstanding loans, credit cards, and auto loans. Obtain a bank clearance letter for each financial liability to confirm resolution.
  • Simultaneously, it is paramount to receive all due salaries, benefits, and settlements from your employer. Exercise caution and refrain from signing any confirmation letters unless all entitlements are received.
  • Another critical step is settling utility bills, including payments to Etisalat, Du, and home internet providers. Timely and thorough settlement of these financial obligations is integral to a smooth exit process.
  • Additionally, canceling your tenancy contract and settling any outstanding auto loans or selling your car are vital steps in the visa cancellation before stamping process.

Overstaying Fines for Employment and Family Visa Cancellation

Post-cancellation, a grace period of 28 days is granted to either adjust your visa status for a new residence visa or depart the country. Notably, fines are not imposed during this grace period. However, exceeding the stipulated grace period incurs fines as follows:

  • First day: AED 125
  • Subsequent days: AED 25 per day
  • After six months of overstaying: AED 50 per day
  • After one year of overstaying: AED 100 per day

Importantly, opting for an inside-country visa without exiting does not attract the AED 125 fine on the first day. However, it is essential to settle fines before the status change, as per the immigration system records.

Simple Guide to the Visa Cancellation Process in UAE

Main Points

Visa Cancellation: A Simple Guide

When you have a residence visa for the UAE, it means that you have legal permission to live in the country for a specified period. This visa comes with certain responsibilities and benefits. If you decide to leave the UAE permanently, it’s essential to inform the authorities and follow the proper procedure to cancel your residence visa. Here’s why:

  • Compliance with Laws: Every country has specific regulations regarding visas and residency. By canceling your residence visa, you are adhering to the UAE’s legal requirements. Failure to do so might result in penalties or complications if you ever decide to return or if you have any pending financial or legal matters in the UAE.
  • Avoid Future Issues: If you don’t cancel your visa and leave without notifying the authorities, it could lead to administrative challenges. For instance, if your visa remains active, there might be implications related to visa renewals, fines, or even legal repercussions when you attempt to re-enter or engage with the UAE in any capacity in the future.
  • Clearance and Peace of Mind: Canceling your visa officially ensures that you’ve settled all your obligations in the UAE. It gives you peace of mind knowing that you’ve done everything by the book, and there are no unresolved matters related to your residency.
  • Protect Your Sponsor: If you were sponsored by a company or individual in the UAE, canceling your visa is also essential for them. It releases them from the obligation of being responsible for you as a resident, ensuring that they don’t face any unexpected liabilities or issues because of your prolonged stay without proper authorization.

Canceling your residence visa when leaving the UAE is a matter of legal compliance, ensuring clarity for both you and the UAE authorities, and maintaining a clean record for any future engagements with the country.

Who Can Cancel Your Visa?

The process of canceling a residence visa in UAE involves specific parties who have the authority or responsibility to initiate and complete this procedure. Here’s a breakdown of who can cancel your visa:

  • In the UAE, many expatriates obtain their residence visas through sponsorship. This sponsor can be an individual, such as a family member or a friend, or a company that has employed the individual.
  • The sponsor is primarily responsible for the visa holder during their stay in the UAE. This responsibility includes facilitating the visa application process, ensuring the visa holder’s compliance with UAE laws, and managing any visa-related matters.
  • Given this responsibility, the sponsor has the authority and means to initiate the visa cancellation process when needed, such as when the visa holder decides to leave the UAE permanently.
  • The UAE offers an investor visa, which is designed for individuals who have invested a significant amount of money in the country, typically in business ventures.
  • Since investor visa holders have a more independent status in the UAE, given their substantial contribution to the country’s economy, they have the autonomy to manage many aspects of their residency, including the cancellation process.
  • Therefore, if you hold an investor visa, you have the flexibility and authority to handle the cancellation of your visa on your own, without necessarily relying on a sponsor.

Steps for Company-Sponsored Visa Cancellation:

To initiate the company-sponsored visa cancellation process, follow these essential steps:

  • The company should first cancel your labour card and work contract at MOHRE.
  • You must sign this application.
  • Once approved by MOHRE, the company applies for visa cancellation via ICP.
  • You’ll need to confirm you’ve received all due payments and benefits before they cancel your work permit.

  • E-services Fee: AED 10

The visa cancellation process in the UAE typically takes around 48 hours, though this timeframe can differ. After canceling, there are specific grace periods for different visa categories: 180 days for Golden Visa holders, widows/divorcees, completed students, and certain professionals; 90 days for some skilled professionals and property visa holders; 60 days for regular residents; and 30 days for visa-on-arrival categories.

If one overstays beyond their respective grace period, they’ll incur a daily fine of AED 50. For those considering renewing a tourist visa, it’s possible by adhering to the UAE’s renewal guidelines. However, the validity of a residence visa can vary depending on its type and sponsor. It’s crucial always to consult the most recent UAE visa regulations before making any decisions or taking actions.

The grace period to exit the UAE after a residency visa cancellation has been increased to between 60 and 180 days in most cases. The grace period, which was 30 days previously, depends on the category of the visa.

Expatriates need to either exit the country or get a new visa within the grace period after the visa is cancelled.

Typing centre agents and customer care agents at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) have confirmed the increased period is now in effect. The flexible period was announced as the country adopted sweeping reforms to its entry and residency visa scheme last month.

A typing centre agent confirmed that a client of his had the longer grace period applied after visa cancellation.

“The new visa grace period was applied on a visa that we cancelled recently,” said Aliyyu Shahul Hameed from Pan Gulf document clearing services. “A skilled professional got a grace period of 180 days to exit the country.”

According to information shared by typing centre agents, the period varies according to the visa type. As per details they can access on the ICP system, here is the break-up:

  • Golden Visa holders and their family members
  • Green Visa holders and their family members
  • Widows or divorcees
  • Students who have completed their studies
  • Skilled professionals (first and second level in the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation classification).
  • Skilled professionals (third level in the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation classification)
  • Property owners
  • Normal residencies
  • Other categories

Even though some skilled workers will get a 180-day grace period, their dependents have just 60, according to an ICP customer care agent.

Hameed said the flexible period that goes up to six months will be helpful to a lot of people. “Even if they lose a job, the grace period allows them enough time to get back on their feet and look for another", he noted.

However, it is not clear whether this will be applicable for people whose visas have already expired. “If someone has overstayed their visa, then it is unlikely that they will get the grace period when it is cancelled,” said Abdul Gafoor, general manager of Al Mas Businessmen Service. “We are still awaiting some clarification regarding this.”

  • Saudi Arabia announces new amendments to visit visa duration, validity

The Advanced Visa System comprises many residency types, including the Green Visa – which allows an individual to sponsor their family for five years, as opposed to the existing system of two years. It is applicable to various individuals including skilled workers, self-employed people and freelancers.

There have also been a number of changes in visit visa permits. New visas will allow a stay of 60 days as opposed to 30 days earlier. Additionally, a five-year multi-entry tourist visa has been introduced, which does not require a sponsor.

Since the new reforms came into effect, it has also been revealed that the validity of freehold visas has been reduced to two years, as opposed to the earlier validity of three years. This is also applicable to people who apply for a visa as a partner of a mainland company and their dependents.

UAE visa cancellation: Govt introduces five digital guidelines

 alt=

Abu Dhabi: The UAE government has introduced five digital guidelines for the cancellation of visas. The visa of family members are to be cancelled by the sponsor while the employee visa should be cancelled by the respective companies or employers. Individuals cannot cancel their visas on their own. To cancel an employee’s visa, the company should first apply for cancellation of his/her employment contract and labour card at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The employee too should sign on the application.

Besides, an affidavit signed by the employee stating that he/she had duly received the wages and other benefits. After this, the employer can apply to the ICP or GDRFI for visa cancellation. Meanwhile, the individuals could cancel their visa only after the visa cancellation process of the family members is completed. The visas could be cancelled online via the official website of ICP or through approved typing centres. Persons would be allowed to stay in the country only if the visa is renewed before it expires. However, individuals may be allowed to stay in the country for 1 – 6 months after visa cancellation depending upon the nature of the visa.

Meanwhile, AED 50 would be charged as a fine for each day that a person stays in the country with an expired visa. It must be noted that the Emirates ID too would be invalid as soon as the visa expires. So, the application for visa cancellation should be submitted at the ICP before it expires. Check the website for details.

The employee must also sign this application. Then, the employer should apply to ICP for visa cancellation.

There are two ways to cancel your visa. You can do it either through a registered typing centre or online.

The sponsor may visit any typing office registered by ICP in the respective emirate. The typing office will fill the cancellation form on your behalf and process it online through ICP.

A grace period after visa cancellation is the time window a temporary resident has to renew their permit or leave the country. Undoubtedly, navigating UAE grace periods, visa cancellations, and overstay fees is crucial to expatriates and tourists alike. In this guide, we discuss UAE grace periods for different visa types and the dangers of overstaying.

What is the grace period after visa cancellation in UAE? This duration is non-existent for those with visitor visas. However, the different types of residence visas have grace periods between 30 to 180 days from the date of cancellation. If exceeded, overstaying attracts a daily AED 50 fine.

The number of days or months a visa holder has before they are fined for overstaying depends on their visa and circumstances around it. Here are some common visas and their grave periods:

Grace Period for Visitor Visa

As of 2023, there are no grace periods for UAE visitors . Once the visa expires, the government considers another minute in the country an illegal stay. An AED 50 daily fine accumulates for every illegal day spent. But if you are still in the country due to canceled flights or close airports, you don’t receive any sanctions.

Grace Period for Investor Visa

The grace period for the Emirates Investor visa is six months. The visa is the most popular long-term visa in the UAE, and its validity period spans between 5-10 years. After the grace period has elapsed, the now illegal resident will attract an AED 50 daily fine till they depart or renew their visa.

Grace Period for Green Visa

UAE Green Visa holders do not need employers or sponsors. Green Visas allows independent workers like freelancers, entrepreneurs, and skilled workers to live with their families in the UAE for up to five years. The grace period is six months. And defaulters get a daily fine of AED 50.

Grace Period for Golden Visas

UAE awards golden visas to exceptional talents . These often include experts in their fields, investors, and outstanding students. The visa allows holders to bring their family along. Its grace period of this visa is 180 days. UAE Golden visa validity period is 5 to 10 years and holders can effortlessly renew them.

Grace Period for Standard Work Visa

Foreigners can get a standard work visa that’s valid for two years in the UAE. The person can either be employed by the private or public sector. The employer must also apply for the work visa. The grace period for this visa is 90 days or 3 months. Note: a working residence visa is different from a working permit.

Grace Period for Retired Visa

Foreigners over the age of 55 ca for the long term visa of five years. The UAE retired visa comes with hefty requirements. Once the visa expires, there is a grace period of six months or 180 days to renew or leave the country.

Grace Period for Divorced Women and Widows

For women living in the UAE on their husbands’ visa, the UAE government grants them a 180 days grace period and one year extension if they are widowed or divorced . The extension begins on the day of their husband’s death or divorce. However, this visa is only renewable once and doesn’t require a substitute sponsor.

Grace Period for Student Visas

For students sponsored by their parents, they get a five years residency visa to complete their studies and 180 days’ grace periods. Students that are sponsored by educational institutions get a one-year renewable residency visa up to one year after graduation.

Extending your grace period often comes with fees. And there are only speculations about it. As of now, there are no official statements about extending a grace period in the UAE. If you want to remain in the UAE before your grace period elapses, renewing your visa is the best route. This way, you get to stay longer and escape any daily fines.

You don’t have to exit the UAE to change your visa status. You also don’t have to wait out long hours at the airport. If your visa has expired and you are on the grace period, you can extend or change your visa status seamlessly. Ensure you have a well-rounded idea of your grace period, so you renew on time. The documents you need to effect a visa change while in the country are :

  • A copy of your passport
  • Passport size photograph
  • A copy of your old tourist visa/canceled visa copy

Once you overstay your grace period in the UAE, it attracts some serious consequences. For the first day of your illegal stay in the UAE, you pay AED 50. Plus, you have to pay a daily fine of AED 50 for every day you stay there. Also, by the time you decide to leave the UAE, you pay for an exit permit that costs between AED 250 and AED 300.

Once you are ready to leave, you can pay your fine at any airport, sea port, land border, immigration offices, or type offices . And if you are opting for an extension, you can visit any of the spots to pay too.

Like overstaying your welcome in the UAE, there are consequences of leaving the UAE without proper cancellation of your employment visa . If you try to desert the UAE without resigning, dealing with all the loose ends, and properly canceling your visa, your employer can report you. Once your employer reports you for absconding, you get legal consequences like an arrest the next time you try to enter the UAE. They can also ban you from ever visiting the UAE.

What are the new rules after visa cancellation in UAE 2023?

The grace period after a UAE residence visa cancellation or expiration increased from 30 days to six months. There is a six-month window to either renew the visa or leave the country. Also, the tourist visa period was extended and its 10 day grace period was removed.

How much is the fine for overstaying in the UAE for a Canceled visa?

Defaulters of overstayed welcome pay a daily fine of AED 50 and an exit permit fee of AED 250 to 300 when they decide to leave the country.

How do I check my grace period after visa cancellation?

Employment Visa Cancellation

uae visa cancellation

The process of visa cancellation in UAE for employment visas is a crucial step that individuals must navigate carefully when transitioning between jobs or leaving the country permanently.

Initiation typically begins with the employer formally notifying relevant authorities about the employee’s departure or change in employment status. Simultaneously, the employee plays an active role by submitting necessary documents. This documents include things such as a resignation letter and a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from the previous employer. Both the employer and employee may need to actively visit the immigration authority for the cancellation process. In there, they will capture biometric data, including fingerprints, to authenticate the cancellation process.

Once approved, the passport receives a visa cancellation stamp. This indicates that the individual is no longer under the sponsorship of the previous employer. Post-cancellation, there is a limited grace period during which the individual can wrap up affairs and depart from the UAE.

Navigating the employment visa cancellation process demands attention to detail and adherence to specific timelines. This proactive approach ensures a smooth transition and compliance with the regulations governing the process of visa cancellation in UAE.

Family Visa Cancellation

Canceling a Family Visa in the UAE demands meticulous attention to specific details. To initiate this process, individuals need to submit the required documentation, often involving passports, visas, and other pertinent papers. Coordination with the appropriate authorities becomes essential, ensuring that the cancellation aligns seamlessly with legal regulations.

A crucial step in this process may include a visit to the immigration authority, where both the sponsoring family member and the visa holder might be required to be present. This visit may also involve the capture of biometric data, such as fingerprints, to authenticate and finalize the cancellation process. By navigating these intricacies, individuals can efficiently conclude the family visa cancellation process in accordance with UAE regulations.

Tourist Visa Cancellation

When it comes to canceling a Tourist Visa in the UAE, understanding the specific details is paramount. This process typically involves the submission of necessary documents, including passports and visas, to the relevant authorities.

Coordinating with the immigration authority is crucial to ensure compliance with legal requirements. In some instances, a visit to the immigration office may be necessary, where individuals can actively engage in the cancellation process. This may include providing any additional information needed for a smooth cancellation. Navigating these steps diligently ensures a comprehensive and legally compliant Tourist Visa cancellation in the UAE.

Process of UAE Visa Cancellation

The UAE Visa Cancellation process is a meticulous procedure that necessitates careful attention to detail and adherence to specific steps. By actively participating in each step of the UAE Visa Cancellation process, individuals can navigate the complexities with confidence, ensuring a lawful and efficient conclusion to their visa status in the country.

Gathering Required Documents

Gathering the necessary documents is a fundamental step in the UAE Visa Cancellation process, requiring careful attention and organization. Individuals involved in this procedure must proactively collect specific documents to ensure a smooth and efficient cancellation.

  • Passports and Visas: The primary documents for cancellation are the passport and visa. Individuals must ensure that these documents are valid and readily available for submission.
  • Employment Contract: For employment visa cancellations, the employment contract plays a crucial role. Individuals should provide a copy of their employment contract as part of the documentation.
  • Emirates ID: The Emirates ID is another essential document that may be required. Individuals need to submit a copy for verification during the cancellation process.
  • Biometric Data: In certain cases, you may need to provide biometric data, such as fingerprints, to authenticate the cancellation process.
  • Additional Documentation: Furthermore, depending on the visa category, additional documents may be necessary. For family visa cancellations, proof of the relationship may be required. Tourist visa cancellations may involve submission of the return ticket.
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC): Moreover, in certain scenarios, individuals may need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer or sponsor. This document declares that the employer has no objections to the cancellation of the visa.

Settling Financial Obligations

Before concluding the UAE visa cancellation process, individuals must settle any outstanding financial obligations. This includes clearing pending bills, fines, or any other financial responsibilities associated with their stay. Ensuring a smooth and hassle-free cancellation process involves actively resolving all financial matters.

This proactive approach not only streamlines the visa cancellation but also contributes to maintaining a positive relationship with the immigration authorities. It is essential to diligently address and resolve any outstanding financial commitments to ensure a seamless conclusion to the visa cancellation procedure in the UAE.

Notifying the Employer/Sponsor

As you embark on the UAE visa cancellation process, a vital step is notifying your employer or sponsor. Moreover, notifying your employer or sponsor proactively guarantees a smooth transition and enables them to make the necessary arrangements.

By promptly informing your employer or sponsor of your intent to cancel the visa, you contribute to a hassle-free procedure. It provides them with the necessary time to complete any administrative tasks related to your departure, facilitating a cooperative and efficient cancellation process. Open communication in this regard is key to a successful and amicable conclusion to your UAE visa journey.

Application Submission Process

After gathering all necessary documents, individuals initiate the visa cancellation process by submitting their applications through the designated channels. This step involves presenting the required paperwork and details to the immigration authority, ensuring completeness and accuracy to facilitate a seamless procedure.

The applicant engages in the submission process, providing essential information and adhering to specific guidelines. Transitioning through this stage efficiently contributes to expediting the overall cancellation process. After submitting the application, individuals may need to await further instructions or updates from the immigration authorities, maintaining clear communication channels to stay informed about the progress of their visa cancellation. This active involvement streamlines the procedure, making it more manageable for those involved.

Clearance Procedures

Following the submission of the cancellation application, individuals proceed to undergo clearance procedures as part of the UAE visa cancellation process. During this phase, relevant authorities thoroughly review the submitted documents and conduct necessary checks to ensure compliance with regulations.

Authorities must verify that individuals settle all legal and financial matters appropriately before finalizing the cancellation. It is crucial to actively cooperate with the clearance procedures to facilitate a seamless and efficient visa cancellation process.

Timelines for Different Visas

The timelines for UAE visa cancellations can vary depending on the type of visa . It is essential to understand the specific durations associated with each category:

  • Employment Visa: Typically, the process should be initiated before the expiration of the visa term. Employers and employees should ensure that all financial matters are settled within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Family Visa: The cancellation process for family visas should ideally commence well before the visa expiry date. It is crucial to settle all financial obligations promptly for a smooth cancellation.
  • Tourist Visa: Tourist visas usually have shorter durations, and cancellation should be initiated promptly upon the visitor’s departure. Quick action on settling any outstanding financial matters is advisable.
  • Other Visas: Different visa categories may have specific timelines; therefore, it is important to check and adhere to the guidelines for each.

To avoid complications or penalties, individuals should be proactive in initiating the cancellation process within the stipulated timelines for their respective visa types. It is recommended to familiarize oneself with the specific requirements outlined by immigration authorities and act accordingly to ensure a seamless cancellation experience.

Factors Affecting Cancellation Timelines

Several factors can influence the timelines for UAE visa cancellations, impacting the efficiency of the process. Understanding these factors is crucial for individuals navigating the cancellation journey:

  • Document Completion: Timely submission of all required documents is a pivotal factor. Moreover, delays in providing necessary paperwork can extend the overall cancellation process.
  • Financial Settlement: The prompt settlement of any outstanding financial obligations is essential. Because of this, failure to clear dues can hinder the progress of the cancellation procedure.
  • Employer/Sponsor Cooperation: Smooth communication and cooperation between the individual and their employer or sponsor play a vital role. Furthermore, a collaborative approach expedites the process and minimizes delays.
  • Immigration Authority Procedures: The efficiency of the immigration authority in processing cancellations impacts timelines. Individuals should be aware of the specific procedures and processing times.
  • Visa Type: Different visa categories may have varying timelines for cancellation. In addition, you must be aware of the specific requirements for your visa type.
  • Government Regulations: Changes in government regulations can influence cancellation timelines. Staying informed about any updates is crucial to navigate the process effectively.

By considering and addressing these factors proactively, individuals can contribute to expediting the visa cancellation process. Adherence to guidelines, clear communication, and timely actions are key elements in ensuring a swift and hassle-free cancellation experience.

In conclusion, navigating the UAE visa cancellation details requires careful attention to detail and proactive steps. Understanding the intricacies of document submission, financial settlements, and cooperation with employers or sponsors is pivotal. The efficiency of the immigration authority and adherence to specific timelines based on visa types are crucial considerations. By staying informed about government regulations and addressing factors influencing cancellation timelines, individuals can ensure a smooth and timely process.

Economy Middle East Guide: Navigating UAE visa cancellation

Economy Middle East Guide: Navigating UAE visa cancellation

With about 9 in 10 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) being expatriates, the country remains a magnet for individuals aspiring to live, study and work within its borders. This appeal is evident in the substantial influx of visa applications processed by authorities. Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs alone has granted over 151,000 golden visas between 2019 and 2022. However, the possibility remains that one may ask about UAE visa cancellation.

If you’re embarking on a journey that leads you away from the UAE — or toward a new opportunity within the country — this is your ultimate guide.

First, what’s the repercussion?

To clarify, you cannot exit the country without UAE visa cancellation. Failure to formally cancel your visa may lead to legal repercussions. These include paying fines or being subjected to a travel ban.

What are the requirements?

Whether you’re working on your family, tourist, student, investor or employment visa cancellation UAE has certain requirements you must comply with. As for the necessary documents, you must prepare the following before visiting any visa cancellation service centers:

  • Your passport
  • Your Emirates ID card
  • Your visa cancellation application form signed by the sponsor
  • A copy of your sponsor’s passport
  • A no-liability certificate from the bank
  • A copy of your entry permit (if applicable)

It is recommended to verify the specific documentation requirements based on your specific visa validity and circumstances.

UAE work visa cancellation

Leaving the UAE permanently? Keep in mind that canceling your work permit is needed before you can cancel your residence visa. Note that it’s your employer who will initiate the cancellation process for your work permit and labor contract with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).

For him or her to facilitate the cancelation, he or she must do the following:

  • Get your signature on the visa cancellation application form.
  • Obtain a letter from you confirming the receipt of all due payments. These include salary, leave salary, gratuity and other end-of-service benefits.
  • Seek approval from MoHRE to cancel your labor contract.
  • Submit an application to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP) to formally cancel the residence visa.

Now, if you’re simply switching jobs within the country, your current employer is still obliged to proceed with canceling your existing work permit. Then, your new employer will have to apply for a new work permit and visa on your behalf.

On your part, you must secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your current employer, explicitly granting consent for the cancellation of your work permit. This will help mitigate the risk of an employment ban or any other complications that may arise.

If your employer refuses to cancel your UAE visa, get help from the MoHRE. Alternatively, you can contact the relevant Free Zone Authority for assistance if you work within a Free Zone.

UAE visa cancellation

UAE family visa cancellation

If you have sponsored family members in the UAE, you must cancel their residence visas first before you can cancel yours. This rule remains applicable even if your family members are already out of the UAE. Be sure to check the status of their visa cancellations before initiating yours.

If your spouse has his or her own employment visa, their employer must undertake the cancellation process stated above.

Canceling other types of visa

Apart from work and family visas, someone in the UAE may carry other types of visa, including investor, student, tourist or temporary visas. If this is your case, you can make the cancellation process online via the ICP website or app. Alternatively, you can enlist help from one-stop shops like Amer Service Center to help you with the cancellation.

To complete the procedure, simply submit the mandatory documents and settle the applicable visa cancellation fees. You will receive the official visa and cancellation fee approval letter via email.

To ensure a smooth visa cancellation process, you must address several important matters. First, settle any outstanding utility bills to avoid complications. The same goes for any outstanding debts (In this case, you must also secure the necessary clearances).

Properly terminate your tenancy contract and vacate your accommodation. Then, if you own vehicles, either sell them or make arrangements for their transfer. Moreover, you must close your bank accounts and get a no-liability letter to confirm financial closure.

For further legal and financial clarity, you may consult with a lawyer or tax advisor to address potential liabilities.

UAE airlines cancel flights after Iran action - this is what passengers must do

Flight delays are expected as tensions rise between Iran and Israel

Stock Emirates airlines

Dubai: UAE carriers Etihad Airways, Emirates, flydubai, and other airlines have advised passengers departing or arriving at Dubai International Airport to check their flight status on emirates.com for the latest information regarding their flights. Etihad has also advised its passengers to do the same.

The UAE carriers are among several cancelling and rerouting flights as tensions between Iran and Israel escalate. In light of the heightened tensions, the UAE carriers have opted to avoid Iranian airspace and utilise alternative routes to ensure the safety and security of their operations. According to travel agents, the ongoing disruptions have severely impacted the travel plans of several UAE residents returning to the UAE after the long Eid Al Fitr break.

Etihad Airways has cancelled its services to Tel Aviv, Israel and Amman, Jordan, on Sunday, 14 April, in response to the region's airspace closure.

The airline said in a statement that the affected flights are EY593 from Abu Dhabi (AUH) to Tel Aviv (TLV), EY594 from Tel Aviv to Abu Dhabi, EY513 from Abu Dhabi to Amman (AMM), and EY514 from Amman to Abu Dhabi. An Etihad Airways spokesperson said, “Guests booked on these services are being assisted with their travel arrangements.”

Following notification of the closure of airspace over Israel, Jordan, and Iraq, UAE’s flag carrier has also rerouted a number of its European and North American flights on Sunday, 14 April, to overfly the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Egypt. “This is likely to cause some disruption and delay to several flights over the day,” said an Etihad Airways spokesperson.

More cancellations

According to flightradar24, a flight monitoring service, air traffic that used to fly over Iraq has now moved to fly either over Saudi Arabia and Egypt or over Tajikistan/Pakistan.

Meanwhile, an Emirates spokesperson told Gulf News, “Following recent airspace closures, Emirates has cancelled some flights and rerouted others. We are closely monitoring the situation and are making all efforts to ensure minimal disruption to customers while assisting impacted passengers.”

Dubai carrier flydubai also cancelled several flights on Sunday. The airline said it was “in direct contact with our passengers whose travel plans have been affected”. It would “continue to monitor the situation closely and make any amendments to our schedule accordingly.” Wizz Air Abu Dhabi also cancelled its scheduled flight to Israel on Sunday morning.

“This is a developing situation, and the airline is continuously monitoring security and airspace updates. Etihad Airways flights only operate through approved airspace. Safety is always our highest priority, and we would never operate a flight unless it was safe to do so,” said the Etihad Airways spokesperson.

Indian carriers alter flight paths

Indian airlines have also altered their flight paths for Europe and the Middle East due to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. Tata-owned Air India and Vistara have avoided Iranian airspace following the Indian government’s advisory urging citizens to avoid travel to Iran.

According to media reports, they are now taking longer routes to ensure passenger safety and operational stability. Sources told Gulf News that India’s biggest carrier, Indigo, is also avoiding the airspace.
