This destination takes its plant conservation seriously, so there are a range of places where you can go and learn about botanic species from both local and international landscapes. A wander through the well-kept gardens at the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Australian Botanic Gardens is not to be missed. For those who are more devoted, the Sydney Tropical Centre and the Australian Botanic Garden also have some unique displays.

Ditch your shoes and enjoy the grass beneath your feet at an oasis of greenery like Bicentennial Park or Arcadia Park. Also consider whiling away a few hours at Cahill Park or Newport Park.

For a little more breathing space, visit Botany Bay National Park and Lane Cove National Park.

Marine conservation areas are not only crucial for preserving important ecosystems, they also provide the chance to find out more about these wondrous underwater worlds. No doubt, there are plenty more secrets to discover below the surface of Manly Quarantine Station and North Harbour Aquatic Reserve.

For the best oysters on the planet, don’t miss a visit to one of the biggest seafood markets in the world — the Sydney Fish Market. And, nothing is better than an Aussie barbeque, where tasty Australian  snags  (beef or pork sausages) are served on a slice of bread covered in your favorite sauce. Top it all off with an Australian brew. Microbreweries are plentiful in the city, and just a two-hour drive north is Australia’s oldest wine region.

Delta Vacations vacation packages include round-trip airfare aboard a Delta Partner Airline to Sydney International Airport (SYD). Car rentals are available to add to your package. However, since congestion and traffic restrictions are prevalent, driving a rental car can be difficult, and isn't recommended, unless you plan to visit the outlying suburbs.

Book your Sydney holiday

Australia may be known the world over as The Land Down Under, but the island nation’s lively cities and stunning landscapes stay at the very top of our must-travel lists. Sydney getaways are always a smashing idea, with glittering harbours, famous cultural venues, and food and fun around every corner. Whether you’re kicking off an urban walkabout to find yourself among the shops and cafes at The Rocks or bringing the family along for a brilliant beach holiday, book one of our Sydney holiday packages and get ready to soak up the sun and fill up on international eats.

Must-See Sydney

You could plan several Sydney holidays to hit all the fab attractions, activities and arts venues across The Harbour City. When you see the Sydney Opera House arching over the water like a sailing ship, you’ll know you’re in the right place—and yes, you’ll definitely impress your friends when you come home humming the music from a classic performance.

Prefer shopping to Chopin? You can leave your bushwalking shoes at home when you wander through The Rocks—located just west of Circular Quay—in search of artisan market souvenirs, gourmet meals and even the meaning of life. Just kidding.

When you’re ready to take this Sydney holiday out to the sand and sea, load up the boot with towels, boogie boards and sun cream, and drive a vehicle from one of our Sydney car hire options out to the beach. Which beach, you ask? Well, Bondi is a favourite among locals and travellers alike and Coogee Beach, to the south, is a bit more rustic. If you can’t decide, then amble along the gorgeous Bondi to Coogee Beach Walk for swimming and surfing on each end of sweet scenery!

Family Holidays to Sydney

If you’re bringing young swimmers along for the trip, then the gentle tides of Coogee Beach are a double win! Soak up the sun and splash around with the kids, then air dry while you look for Flipper’s mates at nearby Dolphins Point. When you and the crew can’t wait to be on a boat, take a ferry ride from Manly or Circular Quay—it’s the next best way to see the harbour, after sailing your own tallship.

Do you need to meet a koala? Who doesn’t? Take your darlings to Darling Harbour for a day at Wild Life Sydney Zoo. You’ll make friends with koalas, wallabies and plenty of other indigenous creatures all in one place, all while learning how to protect Australia’s natural habitats. We heart that!

Chow Down like a Sydneysider

Sydneysiders come from many backgrounds and cultures, and as a result the city is bursting with unique flavours and fusions, as well as heaps of culinary innovation. Saving up for an all-out foodie tour is just one more reason to score sweet—or savoury—Sydney travel deals. If you’re craving Vietnamese cuisine, you’re in luck! The city is full of fab pho and baller bahn mi, in addition to stellar seafood and new Australian recipes like the iconic Snow Egg, a delicate dessert masterminded by Peter Gilmore at Quay.

For waterfront cafes and quirky coffee and juice bars for your pre and post-surf snacks, Bondi Beach is the place to be. Surf’s up, bottoms up! If you think spice is nice, let your love of authentic eats lead you through Chinatown’s noodle stalls in Haymarket. If we had you at “fab pho”, get thee to the suburb of Cabramatta. Oh, and if you can’t decide whether you love beer or brunch more, spend your mornings and evenings in Surry Hills. Yeah, you’re welcome.

See You in Sydney

Whether your mouth is already watering or you’re too busy packing your bathers to notice, it’s time to escape on a great getaway. Save on your travel needs when you book Sydney flights and accommodation packages with Wotif. And if one coast is never enough, remember us when it’s time to steal away to Victoria with one of our awesome Melbourne holiday packages . Let’s take Australia by storm!

Explore Sydney

Where to stay, things to do, where to eat, where to stay in sydney.

If you’re not a local or particularly familiar with the city, you may have some trouble deciding where to stay in Sydney. After all, the city is sprawling! The good news is you really can’t go wrong when choosing a base for your time here. Will you wake up with views of the harbour and the hustle and bustle of the city below you? Maybe you’d like to tuck yourself away along a terrace-lined street, with quaint coffee shops and beautiful gardens as your neighbours. Wherever you decide to stay, there’s bound to be something to enjoy right on your doorstep.

Read travel guide

Circular Quay

Circular Quay is the home of Sydney's most famous attractions. The Sydney Opera House and Royal Botanic Gardens are just a stone's throw from each other, while ferries and buses run constantly to Manly and the north shore of the harbour. The western side of the quay is where you'll find The Rocks with its charming cobbled laneways and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Surry Hills and Darlinghurst

Surry Hills has a reputation as one of the most plentiful suburbs for drinking and dining. If nightlife is what you're after, Oxford Street is where you'll want to be. Running along the border of both Surry Hills and Darlinghurst, Oxford Street is your connection from the city all the way to Bondi Junction. If you're looking to soak up the atmosphere of Sydney fashion, food and nightlife, this area is tailor-made for you.

Bondi Beach

Home to white sands, rolling waves and the occasional famous face, Bondi Beach is the epitome of Australian surf culture. A morning swim, an afternoon drink, or an evening of fine-dining – Bondi is beautiful any time of day. Weekend farmers' markets and a coffee in the shade is a great way to relax, so if a laidback atmosphere is what you're after, Bondi Beach is your best bet.

North Sydney

With the city just across the water and easy access via ferry, or a quick walk over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, North Sydney offers convenience away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. A quieter green metropolis, North Sydney is home to the beautiful mansions of Kirribilli and the splendid escapism of Wendy Whiteley's Secret Garden located in the wonderful Lavender Bay.

Chinatown and Darling Harbour

Discover the finest in Asian cuisine and culture, waterfront dining, wine and cocktail bars, and entertainment. Chinatown and Darling Harbour are at the heart of Sydney's buzzing life after dark. The lively precinct is only a 10-minute walk from the city centre, and it's also easily accessible via the light-rail network. Darling Harbour is one of the best places to stay in Sydney.

Frequently asked questions

Sydney is a city best explored on foot, so comfortable walking shoes are a must! If you’re heading there in summer, be sure to throw in some swimmers, a towel, a fabulous hat and, of course, your reusable water bottle. Other times of year can get chilly in the city, so throw in a jacket or cardigan but leave room in your suitcase as Sydney is known for its excellent shopping.

Sydney is a culinary and cultural smorgasbord dishing up an endless array of things to see, do and devour. Some of the must-see spots while you’re in town are the world-famous Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach, Taronga Zoo and Darling Harbour, to name just a few. Our advice? Arrive with a (mostly) empty itinerary and just see where the day (and night) takes you.

Life happens - we get it! Read more here .

Summer in Sydney is a special kind of magic. Skip from the beach to a rooftop bar, sipping cocktails as the sun sinks from the sky. Summer (December to February) also offers a jam-packed roster of festivals and events. If you’re less of a beach dweller and more of a culture seeker, autumn (March to May) winter (June to August) and spring (September to November) is a nice time to check out the city’s artistic heart.

Whoa, where to start? Sydney is known for its exceptional food scene, so be sure to dedicate some solid time to snacking and sipping. When you need to walk off your food coma, pound the pavement and explore the city on foot, popping into museums and galleries that take your fancy along the way. Of course, no trip to Sydney is complete without a visit to the incredible harbour to check out the bridge and Opera House. Better yet, book a sunset cruise around the harbour or get the heart pumping with a bridge climb.

What people love about sydney tours.

Amazing experience, everything ran smoothly, and I couldn’t recommend it any more than - DO IT! Best time of my life on this tour, action packed days and it was so good to see different parts of Sydney and the wider area you might not have normally. Great value for money!
Amazing time, had an absolute blast! I will 100% be doing another tour. Val was a great tour guide, and helped me with every question I had.
As far as tours go, it's great to have others to enjoy with. Wake Up was a nice hostel with a great breakfast included the first day. That day I chose to take the ferry to Manly where our tour guide Georgia showed us shopping, the beach, and this great acai bowl restaurant. From Sydney we took the 9 hour train ride to surf x camp in arrawara. The teepee I slept in was so cool. The surf lesson was great...but we only had less than 1 hour surfing in the water, if we wanted more we had to pay more, in the afternoon we went for a walk along the beach with some local indiginous people to learn about the plants of the area and try some, we stopped at the campground to find kangaroo. The food at surf X was good. surf x still hasn't sent us the link for the surfing photos though. Byron Bay is a great surf town, although I didn't surf Wake Up had free surfboards available...I had purchased the option to kayak with dolphins and didn't feel like surfing after that. the town had lots of little shops and restaurants and a walk to the lighthouse and furthest easterly point in Australia. The next day we went to Brisbane, after a koala bushwalk where we didn't see koala. In Brisbane check out Southbank and Queen street after dark.

Best time to visit australia.

Being such a large place, Australia has a wide range of climates, so all year round, there is somewhere great to visit.

Summer (December to February) can get very hot but is perfect for beach-going and other outdoor activities. In the far north, it is also the wet season, which can get quite humid, and some beaches may be closed due to jellyfish or 'stingers'.

Winter (June to August) is pleasant and dry in the north but can get quite cold in the south, especially in Tasmania and Victoria, where snowfall is common.

Spring and autumn are great times to visit Australia as the weather is milder but still warm enough for swimming in northern areas.

Regardless of daytime temperatures, nights can get very cold in the desert areas of Central and Western Australia, so prepare accordingly.

The main school holiday period is from Christmas to late January and is considered the peak travel time within Australia; expect popular tourist spots to be crowded during this time.

From large malls and boutique shopping strips to weekend arts and crafts markets and vintage shops, Australia is a top place to shop. Shopping in Australia may not be cheap, but there are plenty of unique finds and original souvenirs to bring home. Before heading home, check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are able to import certain items back into your home country. New Zealand, for example, has strict quarantine laws.

Geography and environment

The continent of Australia is known for being one of the flattest, hottest, and driest places on earth, but despite this, there is an astounding variety of terrains and environments on this island nation. While large areas of Australia are covered in desert, there are also tropical rainforests, alpine snowfields, dense bushland, beaches, gorges, lakes, and rivers to be found.

Australia’s national parks are home to many species of birds and mammals not found in the wild anywhere else in the world, including kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, and wombats.

Boasting many stunning white sand beaches, Australia has a coastline like none other. From busy Bondi to surfing icons like Bell’s Beach and Tasmania’s stunning Wineglass Bay , there are endless places to swim, surf, snorkel and paddle.

Despite Australia’s large landmass, most people tend to live in urban, coastal cities. Faster-paced cities like Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne hold much of the population, as do regional satellite cities such as Albury, Dubbo, Bunbury, Townsville, Newcastle and Geelong.

Outback towns have a unique flavor and a distinct way of life; things are slower here, and due to smaller populations, space is plentiful, with most locals relying on agriculture for a living. Venturing away from the city to visit the Outback and rural areas of Australia is highly recommended, as it gives travelers the chance to see a different side of Australia. Traverse the northern regions of Australia's iconic outback landscape on a 11 day Darwin to Broome Outback tour.

Culture and customs

With a strong history of immigration, modern Australia is made up of people from many different cultural backgrounds. This mix makes Australia an endlessly fascinating place to visit, as travelers will be exposed to a variety of different customs and cultures during their stay. From the ancient, spiritual ways of the First Nations population to the wide array of faiths, foods, and festivals on display in the big cities, Australia is a cultural melting pot.

Despite the differences, there are many things that unify the people of Australia. Sports, in particular cricket, soccer, and football (Australian Rules), are played and watched by the masses, irrespective of age, race, gender, or income. Large sporting events like the AFL Grand Final, Melbourne Cup Day, and the Boxing Day Cricket Test have universal appeal for Australians.

Australians relish public holidays, with national and state holidays offering locals time to relax with friends and family over a barbecue or picnic. Making use of Australia’s natural environment is also paramount during this time, with outdoor activities like bushwalking, swimming at the beach, or lazing in the park popular with locals.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways of experiencing a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food, savoring a cheap eat, or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world.

Australia is a land that has been built by immigrants, and these multicultural influences are evident in the wide array of food available. In the cities, it’s possible to find world-class Vietnamese, Turkish, Italian, Greek, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, and Indian restaurants, as well as excellent gastro-pub fare. Head to the Outback, and you’ll find authentic ' bush tucker ', simple campfire meals, and sizzling barbecues.

Food to try in Australia

1. Fresh seafood

With such an impressive coastline, it’s no wonder fresh oysters, prawns, mussels, and ‘balmain bugs’ are devoured by locals and savored by visitors. For those on a budget, there’s nothing wrong with eating fish and chips on the beach.

Australia creates some of the best wines in the world at South Australia’s Barossa Valley , Western Australia’s Margaret River , and New South Wales’s Hunter Valley .

Whether you’re downing a can of VB in Victoria or sipping micro-brewed ale in Sydney, sharing a beer with mates is a social experience not to be missed when in Australia

4. Hot pies

An Australian classic – savory meat pies (or vegetable pies for vegetarians) are best eaten with tomato sauce and are easily found and served in city cafes, country bakeries, and football matches around Australia.

Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators and are heaps more fun. Depending on which trip you're on while in Australia, you may even find yourself traveling overland.

Overland tours

Australia is a big place – like, huge.   Overland tours   involve a lot of time on the road covering long distances, and sometimes the landscape can be pretty barren, so bring a book or some tunes to keep you company.

What's the accommodation like in Australia?

Traveling with Intrepid is a little bit different. We endeavor to provide travelers with an authentic experience to remember, so we try to keep accommodation as unique and traditional as possible.

When traveling with us in Australia you may find yourself staying in a:

Our lodge accommodation is located outside major cities, such as near the entrance to a National Park, and has its own amenities such as a restaurant or dining room. Lodges are comfortable places to stay and offer a good night's rest after a day spent exploring the natural beauty of Australia.

Permanent Tented Campsite

There's no need to put up your tent when you spend the night in a Permanent Tented Campsite. You'll have a roof over your head and will bunk down on sleeper mats on the ground or stretcher (camp) beds, with access to a toilet/shower block. Tent sizes can vary depending on the trip you're on and the location you're visiting. Some of our permanent tented campsites are a little bit fancy, others are very simple. Sometimes you'll be sharing a tent with others in your group.

Our bush camping experiences are as diverse as Australia itself. Some offer swag camping under cover or under the twinkling stars. You could be sleeping in a tent with access to simple toilet or shower amenities or you might not have access to a shower at all. However, the scenery at these magical spots makes it worth going without a bath for a day or so. Sometimes a trip has participatory camping where everyone pitches in to help. Other times, a staff member is on hand to look after things like cooking.

We provide accommodation at a wide variety of hotels around Australia. Some are quite upmarket, others less so, but all of them offer a comfortable stay and ensuite facilities.

We use hostels on some trips which means your bed could be in a twin room or a shared dorm room. Some of these rooms come with their own facilities while others have share facilities.

What is it like traveling on a small group tour?

Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or you’re about to embark on your first trip, traveling can be as intimidating as it is exciting. That's the beauty of a small group tour. From handling the logistics and organizing amazing cultural activities to local leaders who know each destination like the back of their hand (like which street has the best markets and where to get the most authentic food), traveling on a small group tour with Intrepid will give you unforgettable travel experiences without the hassle that comes with exploring a new place. Plus, you'll have ready-made friends to share the journey with. All you have to do is turn up with a healthy sense of adventure and we’ll take care of the rest.

Does my trip to Australia support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Australia directly support our foundation partners, Blue Carbon Lab, Greening Australia and WWF-Australia.  Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Blue Carbon Lab

Blue Carbon Lab is helping to mitigate climate change by restoring and protecting blue carbon in coastal wetlands. We've already lost 65% of wetlands globally, and multiple impacts, including urban development, agriculture, industry, and more, threaten these crucial blue-carbon ecosystems. Donations from our trips help Blue Carbon Lab to restore the natural coastal wetland areas in Victoria, Australia.

Find out more or make a donation

Greening Australia

Greening Australia is taking action to rebuild resilient ecosystems across Australia, from the warm waters of the Great Barrier Reef to the cool island ark of Tasmania. Donations from our trips help them tackle Australia's complex environmental challenges through large on-ground restoration projects and innovative research initiatives that help scale their impact.

Find out more or make a donation

Country Needs People

Country Needs People support Indigenous land and sea management in Australia. Donations help them empower Indigenous communities to rehabilitate and protect places of significance on land and sea using traditional knowledge paired with modern technology.

Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Does my Intrepid trip include airfare?

While our Intrepid trips include many modes of transport, from tuk-tuks to overland vehicles, bullet trains and feluccas, airfare to and from your home country is not included in your tour package.

Take a trip to Sydney on your Australia Vacation

Sydney is located on the east coast of the country in the state of New South Wales . It is Australia’s biggest and most cosmopolitan city and an essential stop on any traveller’s Australia vacation. Surrounding the city is a wonderland of national parks, forests, mountains, river valleys and historic riverside towns. The first settlers arrived in 1788 came here to create a penal colony, finding the world’s largest natural harbour, and 70 beaches along the coast within a reasonable distance of the city. In more recent times, Sydney also hosted the 2000 Olympic Games.

When is the best time to visit Sydney?

Sydney and the coastal areas have a moderate or temperate climate. Summers are subtropical in nature and you can experience a certain amount of humidity. You can expect temperatures to be around 25 or 26 Celsius / 77 to 79 Fahrenheit. Winter is mild but it can rain, and you will need a light jacket for the evenings when temperatures can often drop to around 8 Celsius / 45 Fahrenheit. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the last time it snowed in Sydney was in 1836! The best time to visit Sydney could be the fall as it is the mildest time of the year with very little humidity. Daytime temperatures average 24 Celsius / 75 Fahrenheit. Spring is also a good time with warm days and little humidity with similar temperatures to the fall.

Must-see attractions in and around Downtown Sydney

Sydney harbour.

Sydney Harbour is surrounded not only by the downtown core of the city but also by miles of shoreline which includes a number of Sydney’s suburbs. One way to explore the harbour is to enjoy a short cruise or to take one of the many ferries heading to multiple destinations from Circular Quay in the downtown area.

Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Sydney Opera House

Two iconic landmarks dominate Sydney Harbour. There is the Sydney Harbour Bridge known also as “The Coat Hanger” which defines the city skyline and connects the central part of the city with the northern suburbs. It is, in fact, the world’s largest steel arch bridge. One activity involving this landmark is the Bridge Climb (walking to the top of the bridge with a guide) which is a unique way to enjoy panoramic views of Sydney.

The other landmark is the Sydney Opera House. Opened in 1973, it is not only unique and unforgettable in design but is also a thriving venue for the arts, music, opera and culture generally.

Close to downtown Sydney is The Domain, a beautiful green parkland in which you will find the resplendent Government House, the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. At the bottom of The Domain, on the waterfront, is Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair, an exposed sandstone rock cut into the shape of a bench hand carved by convicts from sandstone in 1810 for Governor Macquarie's wife, Elizabeth.

Sydney Tower

Another landmark is the Sydney Tower, the city’s tallest free-standing structure and the tallest observation tower in the Southern Hemisphere. It is twice the height of the Harbour Bridge. The golden turret at the top of the tower contains two levels of restaurants, three plant levels, two telecommunication transmission levels, and an observation deck to view stunning panoramas of the city.

The Rocks District

Also located downtown is The Rocks District. It is Sydney’s most historic precinct with its many sandstone buildings, cobblestone streets and monuments marking moments in history which allow you to gain an appreciation of Sydney's foundation as a convict-built settlement. It was the first part of Sydney to be settled. The Rocks offer some of Sydney's finest dining and entertainment.

Darling Harbour

Darling Harbour, within easy walking distance from the heart of the city, has good shopping and dining facilities and is home to the Sydney Aquarium, Wildlife World and the National Maritime Museum. Tourists visiting Darling Harbour can also enjoy a sunset cruise along the harbour, or perhaps visit one of the many museums, parks and playgrounds.

Sydney Neighborhoods

There are a number of Sydney neighbourhoods which are well worth a visit on an Australian vacation. Darlinghurst is a lively district offering a wide range of nightlife, dining opportunities, bars and pubs, plus boutique shopping, bookshops, art galleries and cafes. Paddington is a trendy neighbourhood with rows of attractive Victorian terrace houses. There is excellent shopping in its designer stores and small boutiques.

Attractions Across the Bridge

Just across the bridge is Taronga Zoo . This city zoo features one of the largest ranges of native and exotic animals in New South Wales with over 2600 animals including Sumatran tigers, Kodiak bears and many other unusual species. Also just over the bridge is Luna Park , Sydney's premier amusement park. Offering fun and games for the entire family, this is in some ways Australia’s Coney Island.

Museums and Galleries

For the culturally inclined, Sydney offers a host of museums and galleries. The best known include the Australian Museum , the oldest museum in Australia, featuring natural science and cultural artifacts, the Museum of Sydney with its history of the city from aboriginal times to the present day, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales with its extensive collection of Australian and International art and the Museum of Contemporary Art which houses works by many new artists.

Sydney’s Beaches, Nature and Wildlife

Bondi beach.

Australia’s most famous beach is Bondi Beach, located just 7 kilometres/4 miles from the centre. Not only is it a beach for swimming and surfing, but it is also a pleasant place to linger with its numerous cafes, seafood restaurants, bars & clubs.

Manly Beach

Another popular beach location is Manly Beach. Reached by ferry from Circular Quay, this beach sits on a beautiful peninsula surrounded on three sides by the sparkling Pacific Ocean and Sydney Harbour. Again, a good place to swim and surf but one can also enjoy scenic walks along the coastal paths. Plus it is a locale with good shopping and dining opportunities.

Royal National Park

Not far from Sydney is the Royal National Park, a very large coastal parkland along Australia’s eastern coastline which includes coastal cliffs, rainforests, secluded beaches and open woodlands. Again, it is a good place to swim and surf but also to go bushwalking. There are two main trails within the park; one trail leads hikers to Bungoona Lookout which has stunning views of the Hacking River, and the other trail takes hikers past Uloola Falls.

  • Blue Mountains

An essential day trip from Sydney, the Blue Mountains is found about 2 hours from the city. They offer remarkable scenery and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These unique formations of dramatic scenery encompass steep cliffs, eucalyptus forests, waterfalls and small villages. They include the Three Sisters, awe-inspiring pinnacled peaks with a fascinating Aboriginal Dreamtime story. There are 140 kilometres/75 miles of walking trails as well as a cable railway which is purported to be the steepest anywhere. Should one wish to stay overnight here, many options can be found in and around Katoomba, a small town offering arty boutique shops.

Hunter Valley Wine Country

Also worth visiting on trips to Australia is the acclaimed wine country of Hunter Valley, Australia’s oldest wine-producing area, 120 kilometres/75 miles north of Sydney. You can sample fine wines while enjoying the locally grown food in the many restaurants here, and enjoy the ambiance of the area. Non-tasting activities include taking a cruise on the Hunter River or Lake Macquarie, or a ride on a steam train at the Richmond Vale Railway Museum.
