Take normal security precautions in Barbados

Petty Crime

Petty crime, such as pickpocketing, purse snatching, and home burglary occurs.

Petty crime may increase during the tourist season from November to April.

  • Ensure that your personal belongings, including your passport and other travel documents, are secure at all times
  • Don’t leave valuables unattended on the beach
  • Always lock and secure your accommodation doors and windows
  • Avoid carrying large sums of cash or unnecessary valuables

Violent crime

Violent crime, including gun violence, has increased over the past few years in Barbados.  Incidents of armed robbery, sexual assault, gang-related shootings and murder have occurred.

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times
  • Avoid walking alone after dark
  • Avoid isolated areas
  • Avoid showing signs of affluence

Fraud involving use of credit cards, debit cards and ATMs may occur.

When using your bank card at a payment terminal or at an ATM:

  • cover the keypad with one hand when entering your PIN
  • pay careful attention when your cards are being handled by others
  • avoid using card readers with an irregular or unusual feature
  • use ATMs located in well-lit public areas or inside a bank or business
  • check for any unauthorized transactions on your account statements

Overseas fraud

Spiked food and drinks

Never leave food or drinks unattended or in the care of strangers. Be wary of accepting snacks, beverages, gum or cigarettes from people you have just met. They may contain drugs that could put you at risk of sexual assault and robbery.

Women’s Safety

Women travelling alone may face some forms of harassment, verbal abuse and sexual assault.

Advice for women travellers

Demonstrations

Demonstrations occur occasionally.

Even peaceful demonstrations can turn violent at any time. They can also lead to disruptions to traffic and public transportation.

  • Avoid areas where demonstrations and large gatherings are taking place
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities
  • Monitor local media for information on ongoing demonstrations

Mass gatherings (large-scale events)

Water activities

Coastal waters can be dangerous, especially on the Atlantic Ocean side of the island. Riptides are common.

Rescue services may not be consistent with international standards. Not all beaches have lifeguards or warning flags.

  • Exercise caution when swimming, due to strong undertows, especially on the Atlantic side of the island
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities
  • Respect the flag warnings
  • Only undertake scuba diving and other water activities with a well-established company
  • Don’t swim alone, after hours or outside marked areas
  • Consult residents and tour operators for information on possible hazards and safe swimming areas
  • Monitor weather warnings

Water safety abroad

Adventure tourism

Outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking and other adventure activities can be dangerous if unprepared. Weather conditions can change rapidly.

If you intend to practice adventure tourism:

  • never do so alone, and do not part with your expedition companions
  • obtain detailed information on your activity and on the environment in which you will be before setting out
  • buy travel insurance that includes helicopter rescue and medical evacuation
  • ensure that your physical condition is good enough to meet the challenges of your activity
  • stay informed about weather and other conditions that may pose a hazard
  • refrain from using facilities or equipment if you have doubts on their safety

Road safety

Road safety can vary considerably across the island.

Roundabouts are common. There have been incidents of traffic collisions involving visitors occurring at or around roundabouts. Take extra care when approaching or navigating roundabouts.

Road Conditions

Major roads can become slippery and muddy after rainfall.

Driving can also be dangerous due to:

  • narrow rural roads
  • blind curves
  • inadequate lighting
  • lack of road signs
  • unmarked roads
  • pedestrians on the roads
  • abrupt stopping by drivers

Public transportation

Most buses from the Barbados Transport Board are not reliable and they often travel at high speeds. These can be easily identified as they are painted blue or yellow and license plates beginning with the letter B.

Mini-buses are privately-owned with licence plates beginning with the letter Z, and are often crowded. They tend to travel at high speed and are known to sometimes be involved in traffic accidents.

Taxis are generally reliable.

Taxis don’t use meters. There are standard taxi fares for most destinations.

  • Only use licensed taxis
  • Take particular care late at night
  • Confirm the fare in advance
  • Have small bills available for payment

Ride-sharing app

Ride-sharing apps are available in Barbados.

We do not make assessments on the compliance of foreign domestic airlines with international safety standards.

Consult a health care professional or visit a travel health clinic preferably 6 weeks before you travel to get personalized health advice and recommendations.

Routine vaccines

Be sure that your  routine vaccinations , as per your province or territory , are up-to-date before travelling, regardless of your destination.

Some of these vaccinations include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, varicella (chickenpox), influenza and others.

Pre-travel vaccines and medications

You may be at risk for preventable diseases while travelling in this destination. Talk to a travel health professional about which medications or vaccines may be right for you, based on your destination and itinerary.

Yellow fever   is a disease caused by a flavivirus from the bite of an infected mosquito.

Travellers get vaccinated either because it is required to enter a country or because it is recommended for their protection.

  • There is no risk of yellow fever in this country.

Country Entry Requirement*

  • Proof of vaccination is required if you are coming from a country   where yellow fever occurs.

Recommendation

  • Vaccination is not recommended.
  • Discuss travel plans, activities, and destinations with a health care professional.
  • Contact a designated  Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre  well in advance of your trip to arrange for vaccination.

About Yellow Fever

Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre

* It is important to note that  country entry requirements  may not reflect your risk of yellow fever at your destination. It is recommended that you contact the nearest  diplomatic or consular office  of the destination(s) you will be visiting to verify any additional entry requirements.

There is a risk of hepatitis A in this destination. It is a disease of the liver. People can get hepatitis A if they ingest contaminated food or water, eat foods prepared by an infectious person, or if they have close physical contact (such as oral-anal sex) with an infectious person, although casual contact among people does not spread the virus.

Practise  safe food and water precautions and wash your hands often. Vaccination is recommended for all travellers to areas where hepatitis A is present.

Hepatitis B is a risk in every destination. It is a viral liver disease that is easily transmitted from one person to another through exposure to blood and body fluids containing the hepatitis B virus.  Travellers who may be exposed to blood or other bodily fluids (e.g., through sexual contact, medical treatment, sharing needles, tattooing, acupuncture or occupational exposure) are at higher risk of getting hepatitis B.

Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended for all travellers. Prevent hepatitis B infection by practicing safe sex, only using new and sterile drug equipment, and only getting tattoos and piercings in settings that follow public health regulations and standards.

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease. It can spread quickly from person to person by direct contact and through droplets in the air.

Anyone who is not protected against measles is at risk of being infected with it when travelling internationally.

Regardless of where you are going, talk to a health care professional before travelling to make sure you are fully protected against measles.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious viral disease. It can spread from person to person by direct contact and through droplets in the air.

It is recommended that all eligible travellers complete a COVID-19 vaccine series along with any additional recommended doses in Canada before travelling. Evidence shows that vaccines are very effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19. While vaccination provides better protection against serious illness, you may still be at risk of infection from the virus that causes COVID-19. Anyone who has not completed a vaccine series is at increased risk of being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 and is at greater risk for severe disease when travelling internationally.

Before travelling, verify your destination’s COVID-19 vaccination entry/exit requirements. Regardless of where you are going, talk to a health care professional before travelling to make sure you are adequately protected against COVID-19.

The best way to protect yourself from seasonal influenza (flu) is to get vaccinated every year. Get the flu shot at least 2 weeks before travelling.

 The flu occurs worldwide.

  •  In the Northern Hemisphere, the flu season usually runs from November to   April.
  •  In the Southern Hemisphere, the flu season usually runs between April and   October.
  •  In the tropics, there is flu activity year round.

The flu vaccine available in one hemisphere may only offer partial protection against the flu in the other hemisphere.

The flu virus spreads from person to person when they cough or sneeze or by touching objects and surfaces that have been contaminated with the virus. Clean your hands often and wear a mask if you have a fever or respiratory symptoms.

In this destination, rabies  may be present in some wildlife species, including bats. Rabies is a deadly disease that spreads to humans primarily through bites or scratches from an infected animal.

If you are bitten or scratched by an animal while travelling, immediately wash the wound with soap and clean water and see a health care professional.

Before travel, discuss rabies vaccination with a health care professional. It may be recommended for travellers who will be working directly with wildlife.

Safe food and water precautions

Many illnesses can be caused by eating food or drinking beverages contaminated by bacteria, parasites, toxins, or viruses, or by swimming or bathing in contaminated water.

  • Learn more about food and water precautions to take to avoid getting sick by visiting our eat and drink safely abroad page. Remember: Boil it, cook it, peel it, or leave it!
  • Avoid getting water into your eyes, mouth or nose when swimming or participating in activities in freshwater (streams, canals, lakes), particularly after flooding or heavy rain. Water may look clean but could still be polluted or contaminated.
  • Avoid inhaling or swallowing water while bathing, showering, or swimming in pools or hot tubs.

Typhoid   is a bacterial infection spread by contaminated food or water. Risk is higher among children, travellers going to rural areas, travellers visiting friends and relatives or those travelling for a long period of time.

Travellers visiting regions with a risk of typhoid, especially those exposed to places with poor sanitation, should speak to a health care professional about vaccination.

Insect bite prevention

Many diseases are spread by the bites of infected insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas or flies. When travelling to areas where infected insects may be present:

  • Use insect repellent (bug spray) on exposed skin
  • Cover up with light-coloured, loose clothes made of tightly woven materials such as nylon or polyester
  • Minimize exposure to insects
  • Use mosquito netting when sleeping outdoors or in buildings that are not fully enclosed

To learn more about how you can reduce your risk of infection and disease caused by bites, both at home and abroad, visit our insect bite prevention page.

Find out what types of insects are present where you’re travelling, when they’re most active, and the symptoms of the diseases they spread.

There is a risk of chikungunya in this country.  The risk may vary between regions of a country.  Chikungunya is a virus spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Chikungunya can cause a viral disease that typically causes fever and pain in the joints. In some cases, the joint pain can be severe and last for months or years.

Protect yourself from mosquito bites at all times. There is no vaccine available for chikungunya.

  • In this country,   dengue  is a risk to travellers. It is a viral disease spread to humans by mosquito bites.
  • Dengue can cause flu-like symptoms. In some cases, it can lead to severe dengue, which can be fatal.
  • The level of risk of dengue changes seasonally, and varies from year to year. The level of risk also varies between regions in a country and can depend on the elevation in the region.
  • Mosquitoes carrying dengue typically bite during the daytime, particularly around sunrise and sunset.
  • Protect yourself from mosquito bites . There is no vaccine or medication that protects against dengue.

Zika virus is a risk in this country.

Zika virus is primarily spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. It can also be sexually transmitted. Zika virus can cause serious birth defects.

During your trip:

  • Prevent mosquito bites at all times.
  • Use condoms correctly or avoid sexual contact, particularly if you are pregnant.

If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, you should discuss the potential risks of travelling to this destination with your health care provider. You may choose to avoid or postpone travel.

For more information, see Zika virus: Pregnant or planning a pregnancy.

Animal precautions

Some infections, such as rabies and influenza, can be shared between humans and animals. Certain types of activities may increase your chance of contact with animals, such as travelling in rural or forested areas, camping, hiking, and visiting wet markets (places where live animals are slaughtered and sold) or caves.

Travellers are cautioned to avoid contact with animals, including dogs, livestock (pigs, cows), monkeys, snakes, rodents, birds, and bats, and to avoid eating undercooked wild game.

Closely supervise children, as they are more likely to come in contact with animals.

Person-to-person infections

Stay home if you’re sick and practise proper cough and sneeze etiquette , which includes coughing or sneezing into a tissue or the bend of your arm, not your hand. Reduce your risk of colds, the flu and other illnesses by:

  •   washing your hands often
  • avoiding or limiting the amount of time spent in closed spaces, crowded places, or at large-scale events (concerts, sporting events, rallies)
  • avoiding close physical contact with people who may be showing symptoms of illness

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) , HIV , and mpox are spread through blood and bodily fluids; use condoms, practise safe sex, and limit your number of sexual partners. Check with your local public health authority pre-travel to determine your eligibility for mpox vaccine.

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)   is a virus that attacks and impairs the immune system, resulting in a chronic, progressive illness known as AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).

High risk activities include anything which puts you in contact with blood or body fluids, such as unprotected sex and exposure to unsterilized needles for medications or other substances (for example, steroids and drugs), tattooing, body-piercing or acupuncture.

Medical services and facilities

Medical facilities in Barbados are adequate and easily accessible.

There are polyclinics located in every parish and these provide basic services. For emergencies, go to the main public hospitals in Bridgetown. There is one public hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, one private hospital, the Bayview Hospital. Expect to experience longer wait times at the public hospital and clinics.  Some clinics and hospitals may expect immediate cash payment for medical services.

Ambulance response is slow and limited.

Medical evacuation can be very expensive, and you may need it to the United States in case of serious illness or injury.

Make sure you get travel insurance that includes coverage for medical evacuation and hospital stays.

Travel health and safety

Medication

Some prescription medications may not be available in Barbados.

If you take prescription medication, you’re responsible for determining their legality in the country.

  • Bring sufficient quantities of your medication with you
  • Always keep your medication in the original container
  • Pack them in your carry-on luggage
  • Carry a copy of your prescriptions

Keep in Mind...

The decision to travel is the sole responsibility of the traveller. The traveller is also responsible for his or her own personal safety.

Be prepared. Do not expect medical services to be the same as in Canada. Pack a   travel health kit , especially if you will be travelling away from major city centres.

You must abide by local laws.

Learn about what you should do and how we can help if you are arrested or detained abroad .

Penalties for possession, use or trafficking of illegal drugs are severe. Convicted offenders can expect jail sentences and heavy fines.

Drugs, alcohol and travel

In 2022, the laws prohibiting sexual acts between individuals of the same sex were ruled unconstitutional.

However, homosexuality is not widely accepted in Barbados society.

2SLGBTQI+ travellers could be discriminated against based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or sex characteristics.

The R&K Guide To Moscow

The World Cup is upon us, but you could argue that it’s already a relic from another era, a time when Putin was looking for peaceable engagement with the West, before he annexed Crimea and unleashed his trolls on the world. But if ordinary Russians are supposed to play the part of pariah, they haven’t been told. It has been a long time since Moscow was this pleasant to visit. The city center is safe, sanitized, ready for your visit. Yes, the calm is a sign of an increasingly efficient autocracy. But we’ve known Moscow through many iterations, and for the casual visitor, this is one of the best yet. (Visit our St. Petersburg guide here.)

Dead artists will able ‘to continue reaching fans for generations to come’ thanks to AI, says CAA’s top strategist—but don’t expect to get a discount on virtual celebrities

Alexandra Shannon, head of strategic development at the Century City-based talent agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA) talks on a panel at Fortune’s Brainstorm AI conference in London

Soon you may be able to watch artists like the Beatles come back from the dead to play “Hey Jude” live at Glastonbury or Coachella, thanks to AI. In fact, it’s already happening—sort of.

“A world where you think about the legacy of somebody, [and] their ability to continue making impact years and years and years to come, is an interesting one,” Alexandra Shannon, head of strategic development at talent agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA), said on a panel at the Fortune Brainstorm AI conference in London when asked whether we legendary bands like the Beatles could one day “work forever.”

“We’re seeing versions of that here in the U.K. with Abba Voyage.”

The Swedish pop group has been on tour in London since 2022—but in virtual form, with avatars of the four band members as they appeared in 1979.

“I think those sorts of experiences and ways to continue reaching fans for generations to come is a powerful opportunity,” Shannon, a Harvard Business School alum who started her career at Lehman Brothers in 2007 before its infamous collapse, predicted.

“They are still able to reach fans and engage with fans in the right way,” Shannon added, with the caveat that “they were in control of that.”

It’s perhaps why CAA is already getting ahead of the curve (and those planning to clone performers without their consent) by creating “digital doubles” of its clients.

“We are scanning their image, we’re scanning their voice, we’re scanning likeness, and we are then storing that on their behalf,” Shannon, who joined the agency behind Aerosmith and Cardi B in 2021, revealed.

“We know that the law is going to take time to catch up, and so this is a mechanism for our clients to actually own and have permissions around their digital identity.”

“This provides a way for us to help set a precedent for anyone who wants to work with one of our clients in their digital identity,” she added. “There’s a mechanism to have them be compensated.”

But if you want to use digital lookalikes of celebrities—alive or dead—don’t expect to get a discount just because it’s not the real deal.

“If you’re going to work with somebody’s digital self, you aren’t working with that business because you think you can work with that person in a cheaper way that is creating some big cost efficiency for you,” Shannon warned.

“At the end of the day, you’re working with somebody—the value is still in that person representing your brand.”

‘This assault on human creativity must be stopped’

Shannon’s comments come as music industry titans like Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and Billie Eilish have thrown their weight behind an open letter calling for a crackdown on their material being used to train AI without their permission.

Their open letter—posted to the online community Medium earlier this month—calls on tech companies and AI developers to “cease the use of AI to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists.”

“These efforts are directly aimed at replacing the work of human artists with massive quantities of Al-created ‘sounds’ and ‘images’ that substantially dilute the royalty pools that are paid out to artists,” the letter, posted by the Artists Rights Alliance, continues.

“Unchecked, Al will set in motion a race to the bottom that will degrade the value of our work and prevent us from being fairly compensated for it,” it adds.

Among the 200 signatories are artists who are no longer with us, like the estate of Bob Marley.

The letter finishes: “This assault on human creativity must be stopped. We must protect against the predatory use of Al to steal professional artists’ voices and likenesses, violate creators’ rights, and destroy the music ecosystem.”

Direct action is also demanded by the artists, asking tech giants, digital music platforms, and AI developers to pledge not to develop or deploy AI-generated tools or music that undermines their work without compensation.

Representatives for many of the artists via record labels Universal Music Group, Interscope Records, and Glassnote Music confirmed to Fortune that their talent signed the letter.

Left unchecked, Al will set in motion a race to the bottom that will degrade the value of our work and prevent us from being fairly compensated for it. This assault on human creativity must be stopped. Join the movement: https://t.co/JZYqmezk4U pic.twitter.com/fcCxNsAFuz — Artist Rights Alliance (@artistrightsnow) April 2, 2024

The letter is far from the first landing on the desks of up-and-coming AI CEOs.

In July last year a handful of writers—including comedian Sarah Silverman—brought class-action complaints against Meta and ChatGPT maker OpenAI for “remixing the copyrighted works of thousands of book authors—and many others—without consent, compensation, or credit.”

The plaintiffs, who include authors Paul Tremblay, Christopher Golden, and others, are represented by  Joseph Saveri  and  Matthew Butterick , who said they are standing up on behalf of authors to continue a “vital conversation about how AI will coexist with human culture and creativity.”

The case was partially dismissed in February, per Reuters , with Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín rejecting claims of copyright infringement and that the businesses unjustly enriched themselves through other people’s work.

Hollywood has also ground to a halt over the issue.

In June 2023, Rolling Stone obtained a letter signed by prominent members of the Screen Actors Guild threatening to strike if their negotiating committee couldn’t reach a deal with major studios over issues such as streaming and AI.

Actors including Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, and Ben Stiller reportedly wrote: “We do not believe that SAG-AFTRA members can afford to make halfway gains in anticipation that more will be coming in three years, and we think it is absolutely vital that this negotiation protects not just our likenesses, but makes sure we are well compensated when any of our work is used to train AI.”

A raft of agreements have since been made—though some voice actors believe the promises still don’t go far enough to protect them.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

voyage caa barbade

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.

A blend of cultures

Located south of Cuba and west of Haiti, Jamaica first belonged to the Spanish and then to the British, who brought over thousands of African slaves to farm sugar cane. Today, the cuisine, architecture and customs are all a product of this cultural mix and are fascinating to discover. The Devon House in Kingston was built in 1881 by George Stiebel, first black millionaire. The government bought and restored the building in 1967 to house the National Gallery of Jamaica. It's one of Jamaica's most celebrated historical landmarks.

A region that attracts the eye

Montego Bay is a cove surrounded by hills from which every view is breathtakingly majestic. It is also a city located on the north-western part of the island and is without a doubt the most popular with travellers and families looking for cultural diversity, beaches and activities.

A unique national park

Hikers, this is your chance to admire nature in myriad forms: mountain slopes, tropical vegetation and coffee plantations. The Blue Mountains are rich in biodiversity — home to rare species of orchids — and offer amazing views of the city of Kingston.

Activities that are sure to please

Mystic Mountain is a theme park for all tastes in Ocho Rios. It offers a bobsled ride in the jungle, a canopy zip line and a chairlift ride above the rainforest. The kids want to swim with dolphins? Moments of pure delight await you in Dolphin Cove!

Stunning beaches that go on forever

Even the most discerning travellers are astounded at times by the beauty of Jamaica’s beaches. In Negril, at the western tip of the island, Seven Mile Beach is particularly inviting: 11 km of white sand stretching along the azure coast. The beach also offers a variety of water sports.
