Seattle Wine Tours Comparison

Kristin’s tips for your wine tour.

Here are some *hopefully* helpful tips from yours truly to keep in mind while planning your wine-tasting trip from Seattle.

  • ⏰ Book as soon as you can: While I’m also one to procrastinate, I recommend booking or at least reserving a ✨ refundabl e tour ✨ you’re interested. These tours fill up fast, and if your travel dates don’t work out or something comes up, you can cancel 24 before the tour and get a refund!
  • 📝 Write down your requests: If you have any dietary restrictions or want to tour a specific winery, make sure to write that down as you make your reservation! Most tour guides will do their best to accommodate you!
  • 🥾 Wear Closed-Toed Shoes: Between the fickle weather and the possibility of walking on uneven ground (guaranteed if you’re visiting Snoqualmie Falls), be sure to wear comfortable, close-toed shoes! No one wants to start the day with a fall!

A picture of one of the rooms that you'll walk through on the Underground tour through Seattle.

  • ☔️ Dress for rain or shine! As mentioned above, the weather can change on a dime, I recommend bringing sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, a light rain jacket (at least), and maybe a good travel-sized umbrella !
  • 💸 Small Cash: I recommend bringing $10 – $20 USD to tip your tour guide(s). That said, if you don’t have small cash on you, you can likely Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App. That’s what I did when I had an amazingly charismatic guide for the Underground Tour of Seattle and had no small bills on me! 🙂

How to Do Your Own Seattle Wine Tour

It’s no secret that Seattle isn’t the cheapest or most budget-friendly destination to visit. And after looking at some of the tours, you may be thinking, “Holy crap, some of these tours are expensive! I can’t afford this!” Unfortunately, some of the wine-tasting experiences may indeed be out of your budget. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t do an independent wine-tasting tour around Seattle! Below, I’ll detail two ways I would recommend going about this.

Wine Tasting With a Rental Car

The first option is to rent a car . Public transportation from the city to the wineries in Woodinville is limited, making a car the most convenient mode of transport. I recommend doing this with Discover Cars as that’s what I’ve had positive experiences with and they offer convenient pick-up options from Sea-Tac Airport. With your rental car, you can do a tour of the Woodinville wineries! Seriously, there are an abundance of wineries to choose from, so you’re sure to find someone that suits your palate!

A picture of the scenic roads at the foothills of the Cascades outside of Seattle. You can create your own wine tour from Seattle with a car.

And a lesser-known secret for saving money is to purchase a Passport to Woodinville Wine Country ! Essentially, it’s a virtual pass that grants you access to tailored tours and discounted tastings across the wine country. The passes are instantly delivered via text message or email. Once you purchase your pass, you just need to check the operating hours of the various tasting rooms for participating wineries (subject to change) and show up during those hours. Then, you show the staff your pass, and you’ll be good to go! This is a budget-friendly option and great if you’re traveling with a small group of 4-5 people since you can split gas and rental expenses ! Plus, it gives you the flexibility to linger at the wineries that catch your interest and explore at your own pace!

✅ 🚗 Check rates & availability for rental cars in Seattle on DiscoverCars

Wine Tasting Without a Rental Car

Now, let’s say you can’t get a rental car or simply don’t want to go through the rental process. Another option is to do a little wine tour within Seattle itself… This isn’t ideal since you won’t get to roam around the vineyards that exist outside the metropolitan area. But, there are a couple of cellars and tasting rooms available that are close enough to the downtown area, which is nothing to turn up your nose to. You can find these tasting rooms around SODO, which is about 10 minutes South of downtown Seattle.

A picture of downtown Seattle with lots of trees adorned with autumn-colored leaves.

Specific places I recommend checking out are Rotie Cellars and Latta Wines ! These are both pretty highly rated and you’ll find a wide array of wines offered there. Also, if you purchase a bottle from Rotie Cellars, they’ll give you a tasting for free, which is always welcomed :’). Another spot to check out in the area is Slight of Hand Cellars . It’s newer and has a fun ambiance that mixes wine and music. Just beware, the wine-tasting experience is on the pricier side, but I’ve heard that most people say it’s worth it!

Seattle Wineries Map

Below is a little map that you can interact and navigate around with. It includes most of the places mentioned throughout the post, so it’ll hopefully assist you in finding your footing in the city! The orange pins are two wineries that are crowd-favorites in Woodinville and worth stopping by. Meanwhile, the purple pines represent tasting rooms in SODO. Lastly, the red pin is Snoqualmie Falls, which several of the tours mentioned above include as a stop!

Housing Accommodations in Seattle

If you’re still in the process of planning your trip to Seattle and haven’t secured your housing accommodations yet, here are some places I recommend checking out. You can also just head directly to your favorite booking platform with the buttons below to see additional housing options.

Low-Cost Stay

  • Perfect for solo travelers or those on a tight budget!
  • The rooms are smaller, but it’s pet-friendly and has a gym!

Mid-Range Stay

  • Very accessible location near Pikes Place with water and city views
  • Includes fitness center, restaurant, bar, and great location

Fancy Stays

  • Indoor swimming pool, private parking, spa, & bar available
  • Fitness center, spa, family rooms, beautiful rooftop infinity pool…

Seattle Wine Tours: FAQ

The Seattle wine tours above range from ~$115 USD for the large-group tours to ~$950 USD for the exclusive, private tours. Beware, prices often change depending on demand and the season.

Yes! There is a wine country near Seattle — it’s called Woodinville! This area is filled with 120+ different wineries and wine-tasting rooms. For those without a private car, you’ll need to rent a car , take an Uber, or join a tour to visit the Woodinville wineries.

The Woodinville wine region is about 20 miles (32km) or a 30-minute drive NE from Seattle.

While Seattle is not a wine-producing region itself, it’s close to Woodinville, which is known for producing exceptional red and white varietals. The most famous winery in the region is Chateau Ste. Michelle . They opened to the public in 1976 and were instrumental in putting Washington on the wine map! Today, they welcome over 200,000 visitors per year and you’ll notice that most of the tours stop by here!

The best wine tasting in the city is around Sodo, which is about 10 minutes South of downtown Seattle.

The best time of the year for wine tours is the Fall! Based on my multiple trips to Seattle, there are fewer crowds in autumn and the natural scenery looks spectacular! Of course, though, there are higher chances of rain!

Wrap-Up: 10 Worth-It Seattle Wine Tours (2024)

From the many charming Woodinville vineyards and boutique wineries on Bainbridge Island to the hidden gem wineries in the Yakima Valley and memorable tasting rooms in the city, all kinds of places within Washington’s wine country promise an unforgettable experience full of wines and flavors to savor! Wine Tours in the Seattle Area to Book Right Now

Seattle wine tours

Wine tours in the Seattle area are easy to come by thanks to Washington state being the second largest producer of wine in the United States behind California. Our varied microclimates and rich glacial soil makes it the perfect conditions for producing a variety of wines. Whether you like bold reds like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, spicy reds like Syrah, or refreshing whites like Chardonnay and Reisling, there’s something for you.

Considering there are about 1,000 wineries in the state, it can be overwhelming to navigate which to visit. Luckily wine tours have sprung up near Seattle to help with that. Essentially they take a small group to 2-4 different wineries around the Seattle area for a day of wine tasting.

I write extensively about Washington wine country. So to help you choose which wine tours to take I’ve curated ones that give you a good taste of what our state has to offer. If you’re ready to get your drink on, here are the best wine tours in the Seattle area.

The shuttle is nice and clean, he picks you up in the morning and after visiting a winery or two you are treated to a delicious lunch. After lunch you continue on the wine tasting journey and even get discounts on the wine you purchase at the wineries you visit. I went with a group of 10 women and there was plenty of room in the shuttle and all the wineries we visited were great. The wineries varied along with the types of wines, so if you have a preference on wineries or wine I recommend sharing that with Ramon as he is open to suggestions and makes it the best experience possible.

The day started by getting picked up at our address by the shuttle, which was very convenient since we were visiting from out of town without a car. No one else signed up for a tour that day, so my boyfriend and I were the only passengers. We basically has a private tour. Ramon was the driver and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed all of the stops where we had anywhere from 3 to 6 tastings. The wines were mostly reds. The lunch stop was Cuban and it was phenomenal. I was incredibly impressed with this authentic restaurant. It was delicious. We ate early, though, around 11:00 am. So, don't have a big breakfast before hand.

We welcome you onboard a variety of local boats to cruise our beautiful lakes and the gorgeous Puget Sound! Discover new wines or varietals while watching the waves crash, get to know some incredible winemakers,  enjoy the most beautiful sunsets, spot Bald Eagles or Sea Lions.

MEET THE WOMAN BEHIND THE VISION

Adrienne has been in the restaurant and hospitality business since 1997. Cultivating a strong passion and love for local Washington food and wine.

"I was fortunate enough to work at Willows Lodge under former wine director, Jeffrey Dorgan, who introduced me to the budding winemakers of Washington. This was a time where some of the best wineries were just beginning, Woodinville only had a handful of wineries, and it was easy to keep track of who was releasing new wines, etc...thus my love for Washington Wine began."

"My husband is a Captain here in Seattle, and after a day of wine tasting in Woodinville, the idea for Washington Wine Cruises was born! I wanted to provide a very personal and unique experience. Anyone can go drink wines in tasting rooms, but imagine the experience of sipping small production/boutique wines onboard beautiful boats with local winemakers and chefs?! We truly are lucky to live in such a beautiful state, why not bring the best of best together in one spot? Thus, Washington Wine Cruises was established with our first cruise in July of 2016, a dream come true."

Adrienne has combined her expertise in fine dining and elite hospitality, along with organic Washington beauty and wines to bring guests a unique and unforgettable experience.

CELEBRATE SEASONAL!

Washington Wine Cruises curates the best seasonal fares with local culinary experts, ensuring delicious wine friendly bites, with every pour.

HIGHLY ACCLAIMED WASHINGTON WINES

We have cultivated amazing relationships with many incredible Washington wineries & winemakers. We enjoy offering cruises featuring wineries of all sizes, but especially those smaller boutique wineries you may not have otherwise known about!  On our cruises, you’ll meet and chat with the featured winemakers, making this a truly personal experience! Live music, wine tastings among offerings at resort-inspired community

Soon, the Gorge Amphitheater won’t be the only Central Washington venue for enjoying live music outdoors in a jaw-dropping setting. At Crescent Ridge , a resort-inspired community in Grant County, a new amphitheater is set to open this year, with the Columbia River as its backdrop.

The amphitheater is part of Beaumont Cellars’ new Tasting Room + Bistro , located near the entrance to Crescent Ridge. The family friendly venue is open to the public and offers a range of indoor and outdoor seating, a diverse food and beverage program, a wine-tasting bar and a private events pavilion, along with the new outdoor concert venue.

“Sips and Sounds,” a destination wine-inspired concert series, begins June 1 with a curated selection of regional acts that will take the stage at the amphitheater. Concert tickets and tasting room information can be found at beaumontcellars.com/crescent-bar .

“This flagship venue is the ultimate expression of local partnership,” says winemaker Pete Beaumont. “Our culinary team, wine crew, events staff and entertainment lineup represent Central Washington through and through. Our collaboration with Crescent Ridge is something special we hope everyone will come out to experience.”

After an active winter, there is a buzz of anticipation in the air at Crescent Ridge. Set along a warm, euphoric stretch of the Columbia River, it doesn’t take long to understand the perennial draw of spring and summer months to the scenic Crescent Bar Recreation Area setting. Relaxed days drenched in sunlight and a refreshing mist rising off this glassy-watered stretch of the Columbia make owning a home in Crescent Ridge more than just a wintry daydream.

Crescent Ridge overlooks a natural playground for outdoor recreation that keeps people coming back every year. Last summer, the community unveiled its new neighborhood of luxury homes set among wine-producing vines of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah. Aptly named The Vineyard, these newly available homes offered those who weren’t satisfied with just a brief holiday stay the opportunity to own full-time.

If 2023’s introduction of The Vineyard was the soft launch, 2024 is the official grand opening. New homebuyers are eagerly awaiting the completion of a new resort-inspired amenity collection in May, including a pool, fitness center and pickleball courts.

“ 2024 marks a significant milestone for Crescent Ridge and the entire region,” says Melissa Camp, the sales director at Crescent Ridge. “The new amenities represent the evolution of this storied destination into a top destination for vacation home ownership, seasonal and full-time residency for sun seekers and multigenerational families.”

Camp says buyers have already begun attending private showings of the new homes at Crescent Ridge.

“They’re eager to tour the new River View Pool + Fitness Center and sample through the lineup of [Pete Beaumont’s] wine offerings,” she says. “I’ve even got some paddles ready to go if they want to challenge me to a game of pickleball.”

Carefully sited to maximize panoramic views of the signature 500-foot basalt ridge and across the Columbia, each Crescent Ridge home features single-level living with particular attention placed on modern design features and optimal functionality. With floor plans ranging from 2,000 to over 2,800 square feet, owners have layout options that cater to their individual needs.

Designs feature oversized garages with 12-foot-tall doors to accommodate vehicles, boats, RVs, quads and plenty of gear. Plus, mudrooms that typically feature dual sets of washers and dryers and an oversized pantry ensure these homes support an active indoor/outdoor lifestyle with ease.

Crescent Ridge: A limited collection of move-in-ready homes are available for purchase from $1.7 million. Current availability and early buyer incentives can be found by contacting Melissa Camp at 509-787-0500. More information is available at CrescentRidgeResort.com .
