On a Bahamas cruise from Miami, the crystal-clear waters, powder-white sands, and relaxed atmosphere of this island paradise guarantee the ideal vacation. A cruise is the perfect way to downshift from the buzz of South Florida’s largest city to the laid-back culture of New Providence and the surrounding islands.

There’s so much to do and see here. From Nassau, head for Paradise Island to discover the playground of Atlantis and marvel at the sharks circling Predator Lagoon. Take the ferry to Blue Lagoon Island and relax under a palm tree, listening to the waves. From Bimini, swim among reef sharks or learn how conch is harvested. Relax in a private overwater villa on CocoCay, or fly down North America’s tallest waterslide.

Itineraries

View all bahamas cruises from miami, featured ports of call.

When you arrive in the capital of Nassau on your Bahamas cruise, you’ll have the entire day to explore the city and the surrounding islands. Stroll along the buzzing Cable Beach, and shop for local crafts at the Nassau Straw Market. Head for Aquaventure at Atlantis on Paradise Island for a day of thrills on plunging waterslides. Or cruise to neighboring Pearl Island, Blue Lagoon Island, or Balmoral Island for kayaking, snorkeling, and even a chance to swim with friendly pigs.

Relax on the powdery white sand of Bimini’s gorgeous Paradise Beach, or get closer to marine life in the warm, turquoise waters around the islands. Snorkel with reef sharks or hand-feed stingrays at Honeymoon Harbor. Join a snorkeling adventure to admire the vibrant corals and schools of fish that have colonized a shipwreck before relaxing with an ice-cold rum punch. Feeling creative? Then join a painting class and try to capture the astonishing shades of the Caribbean.

The award-winning island paradise of CocoCay is packed with entertainment for all tastes. Fly down Devil’s Peak, North America’s tallest waterslide, and cool off in the region’s biggest freshwater pool. Enjoy mellow DJ tunes at adults-only Hideaway Beach. Or elevate your experience at Coco Beach Club, where you’ll find a sparkling infinity pool, a powder-sand beach, and a cluster of overwater villas. Each one has a slide so you can glide straight into the crystal-clear water below.

Miami Cruise Hotels: Top Picks to Stay Before You Sail

An upcoming cruise from Miami shouldn’t be a cause for stress. Yet when you see the number of cruise hotel options that are available to you, your head can start to spin!

As a tourist haven, there are literally hundreds — if not thousands — of hotels in the Miami area for you to stay and they can stretch all over the city. So what’s the best place to stay?

Top Miami cruise hotel ideas

When it comes to finding the best hotel for you, first you will want to determine the area that best fits your needs.  To be sure you can stay anywhere in South Florida; with the availability of Uber, Lyft, and taxis, getting to the Miami port is pretty simple on cruise day.

Still, most people will choose to stay in one of a few areas, depending on what they are looking for during their trip. All have pros and cons, and we highlight hotels from each below.

S taying near the airport : Flying in for your cruise? It may not be what you picture when you think of Miami, but staying near the airport can be convenient and affordable. You have a wide variety of hotels that are usually at more affordable prices compared to staying near the ship. In addition, hotels near the airport often have free shuttles between the hotel and your flight. So you can fly in an be at your hotel in minutes with little fuss.

Staying near the cruise port : Staying near the port is also popular. While prices here are likely more expensive than what you’ll find by the airport, you are also near the heart of Miami’s downtown, with all that it has to offer. As well, come cruise day you are right near the cruise terminals. That makes it easy to get to your ship within minutes.

Staying near trendy areas (South Beach, Brickell, etc.) : Of course, picture Miami and you no doubt imagine places like South Beach. The trendy Brickell area is also popular. The good news is that these spots aren’t that far from the cruise port. So you can stay here, enjoy the Miami scene and still be convenient to the ship. However, expect to pay more for the location.

Top Places to Stay for a Miami Cruise

Sailing from Miami

Below we’ve listed what we consider our great cruise hotels for passengers staying in Miami. This comes from a mix of amenities, name brand, review ratings, and location. Click each hotel name to read reviews on Kayak. Review ratings come from Google and are rounded to the nearest half point.

DoubleTree Biscayne Bay (Cruise port area) If you want to make your hotel stay memorable, then this spot could be your top choice. It sits on Biscayne Bay, looking out over the water to Miami Beach and the cruise terminals. From here you are just minutes to the cruise ships.

The DoubleTree name is known for a high-end experience, and this hotel doesn’t disappoint. It’s rated a strong four out of five stars. You’re also near the Perez Art Museum and the Miami Heat’s arena. Keep in mind, however, that this is one of the pricier spots to stay near the cruise port.

  • Distance to Port: 2 miles
  • Review Rating: 4 out of 5

Marriott Stanton South Beach (South Beach) South Beach is known for its beautiful people, art deco architecture, and nightlife. This spot allows you to experience it all while staying beachfront and just a few miles from the cruise port.

Highly rated, this hotel is a few blocks south of the more crowded spots of South Beach, giving you a chance to enjoy everything without being in the middle of it. It’s also near the famous Joe’s Stone Crab restaurant. If you’re wanting a stay that is very “Miami,” then it’s hard to top this hotel. One more thing — you’re just blocks from the channel out of the port where all the cruise ships pass as they depart.

  • Distance to Port: 5 miles
  • Review Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Miami Airport Marriott (Airport area) Wanting a “Miami-style” stay with neon lights, beach, and a wild time? Then the Miami Airport Marriott might not be for you. Have a flight into the city and want a highly-rated hotel that offers a free ride to the airport and the cruise port? This fits the bill.

Marriott is always a well regarded brand-name, and this hotel is just minutes away from the airport meaning you don’t have to fight a ton of traffic to get to your room after a long flight.

  • Price: $$-$$$
  • Distance to Port: 7.5 miles

Hilton Miami Airport Blue Lagoon (Airport area) This hotel makes our list because of how unique it is. It’s located just south of the airport (which you can access via the hotel’s shuttle). But what makes this spot unique is that it’s located at the end of a peninsula that juts out into Blue Lagoon. In other words, you are right near the airport, but surrounded by water.

For those wanting the convenience of staying close to Miami International but a feeling that’s more secluded, this spot is ideal. From here you are about 20 minutes from the cruise terminals via Uber/Lyft.

  • Distance to Port: 9.5 miles

Novatel Miami-Brickell (Brickell/cruise port area) Brickell is a trendy area just south of downtown and near the cruise port. There are restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Staying in this area you have a lot of options, and most fall in the category of luxury stays. After all, what else would you expect from the heart of Miami?

The Novatel Miami is in the Brickell area that’s just south of the cruise port. It’s a mid-rise hotel with a rooftop lounge area that overlooks the water and the skyline. Meanwhile, it’s one of the highest-rated hotels in the area. Coming from the airport? The Orange Line train drops you off right near the spot. When it’s time to get to your ship you can walk the short distance to the Coral Way trolley stop that heads directly to the port for free.

  • Distance to Port: 3 miles

The Guild Downtown | X Miami (Downtown/cruise port area) Dubbing itself “an oasis of calm in downtown Miami” this high-rise hotel sets the bar for cool. First, the location. Here you are right by Bayfront Park and just over the causeway to the Port of Miami. It will only take you minutes to get to your ship.

The hotel itself is modern and trendy, complete with unique designs like a wall full of flamingos in the room. There’s a rooftop pool with tons of loungers and you are also in the heart plenty to see and do before your cruise.

  • Distance to Port: 5.5 miles

Comfort Suites Miami Airport North (Airport area) One of the ironic things in hotels is that the more affordable places to stay often offer better amenities. This Comfort Suites near the Miami airport gives free rides back and forth from the airport, has free wi-fi, and breakfast. For your cruise, there’s even a complimentary shuttle to the Port of Miami each day. Simply register at the desk when you arrive for check in. Meanwhile, the hotel gets strong reviews and can be had for under $150 a night on many dates.

  • Distance to Port: 8 miles

Eurostars Langford (Downtown/cruise port area) Forget best Miami hotels for cruise passengers, this might be one of the coolest in the city. It’s in the converted Miami National Bank building, taking the bones of something old and updating it with modern touches. That means it has a ton of style and a great location as well.

From here you could walk to the port if you wanted (it’s still a bit of a trek), but instead you’re right next to the Coral Way trolley that will take you there for free. It’s also surprisingly affordable many nights given the location.

Holiday Inn Port of Miami (Downtown/cruise port area) This hotel makes our list for its location alone. It’s literally the closest hotel to the cruise port. From your room you could see the cruise ships, as well as be right at Bayside Marketplace — a park and mall that’s right across the street. If you want to be by the ships, it simply doesn’t get any closer. You could literally walk over the causeway to your cruise ship if needed. Prices are also relatively affordable given the location.

  • Distance to Port: 1 mile

Hampton Inn & Suites Miami/Brickell-Downtown (Brickell/cruise port area) Sitting in the heart of Brickell, which is only a few minutes from the cruise ships, this Hampton Inn is one of the best reviewed hotels in the area, earnings 4.5 out of 5 on Google.

Of course, being in the heart of Miami, having a great pool area, and offering a clean and modern hotel is a great recipe for success. And if you’re thinking a bland chain hotel, this one has some unique touches that are very Miami (check out the pink pool table). You can ride the free trolley to the terminals on cruise day.

  • Distance to Port: 2.5 miles

YVE Hotel (Downtown/cruise port area) Just a block south of the Holiday Inn, YVE is also across from Bayfront Park and the shopping center. It’s also a short couple of minutes to get to the cruise ships. If your room is facing that way, you can even see the ships across the causeway. The hotel itself gets great reviews thanks to its location as well as the hip and modern atmosphere — making it perfect for downtown Miami.

Fairwind Hotel (South Beach) Does it get anymore Miami than staying in South Beach in an art-deco hotel that features a rooftop pool? This hotel has exactly that, while sitting right on Collins Avenue and just a block from the famous Lummus Park and the beach.

Despite all that, rates are decent. We were able to find prices under $200 a night most days of the week, although prices are higher for Friday/Saturday stays. The boutique spot is highly rated and right in the heart of it all for a memorable stay before your cruise.

How Much Are Miami Cruise Hotels?

Of course the price of a hotel depends on a lot of factors, including the location, type, and brand of the hotel. In general, however, we’d suggest budgeting about $200 per night for a hotel room before your cruise . Some hotels will be more (some MUCH more!) while you can also find lower priced options. But for a solid hotel in a decent spot, around $200 per night is a good rule of thumb. Prices can be less if staying on a weekday night. However, most cruises depart on the weekend.

What About Resort Fees?

Resort fees are the extra charges you pay at some hotels. These fees often run $30-40 and include things like w-fi service, welcome drinks, newspapers, and more. Unfortunately, they have popped up in tourist destinations like Miami to extract more money from visitors and can be widespread.

In our experience, hotels that are near hotspots like South Beach often charge these extra fees while hotels in other spots (e.g. near the airport) do not. Any resort fee should be fully disclosed before you purchase; not sprung on you at the last minute. Just be prepared that your hotel could have one if looking in a touristy area.

What About Staying Outside of Miami Before a Cruise?

The entire South Florida area offers lots to do and see, from Boca Raton to Coral Gables. Plus, with Uber/Lyft, taxis, trains, and more, it’s relatively easy to get around the city, though traffic can be bad.

In other words, it’s no big deal if you want to stay somewhere outside of the port area before your cruise. Just keep in mind that it will take you a bit longer (and be more expensive) to get to the port on cruise day.

Heat made adjustments to change 3-point math in Game 2. Is it sustainable and how will Celtics respond?

A fter a 20-point loss in Game 1 on Sunday, many expected the Boston Celtics to cruise to another double-digit win over the Jimmy Butler-less Miami Heat in Game 2. But the Heat flipped the script on the Celtics in more ways than one.

Not only was it the undermanned eighth-seeded Heat that came away with a double-digit 111-101 win over the top-seeded Celtics in Game 2 on Wednesday night at TD Garden to steal home-court advantage and tie the first round playoff series at 1-1, but the Heat also did it by beating the Celtics at their own game.

Just two nights after the Celtics crushed the Heat by 30 points from behind the three-point line in Game 1, the Heat tilted the math in its favor by taking and making more threes to outscore the Celtics by 33 points from behind the arc on its way to winning Game 2 despite losing the paint battle 46-26.

“They hit a lot of threes,” Celtics guard Jrue Holiday said. “They took a lot, they hit a lot and I think that kind of fueled them.”

The Heat set a franchise record for threes made in a playoff game, shooting 23 of 43 (53.5 percent) from three-point range. It’s also the most threes the Heat has made in a game this season, tied for the second most threes the Heat has made in any game in franchise history and tied for the fourth most threes any team has hit in a playoff game in NBA history.

“Honestly, I thought we generated the same looks in the first game,” Heat guard Tyler Herro said. “Just guys, including myself, weren’t taking them. The talk among the team was to just be aggressive, take the open shots. If they give it to us, don’t hesitate and let it go.”

The Heat definitely didn’t hesitate, as its game plan to put up more threes in Game 2 was clear from the start with 16 of Miami’s first 20 shots coming from three-point range. The Heat attempted 43 or more threes for the fourth time this season after shooting 12 of 37 (32.4 percent) from behind the arc in Game 1.

Most of the shots were open for the Heat, too, as the Celtics continued to prioritize sending extra defenders at the Bam Adebayo-Herro pick-and-roll. Most of Adebayo’s rolls and Herro’s drives off an Adebayo screen drew extra Celtics defenders, which is a big reason 10 of Herro’s career-high 14 assists resulted in three-pointers.

The Celtics also brought extra defenders to cut off some of the Heat’s drives, including those from rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr.

As a result, 37 of the Heat’s 43 three-point attempts fell into the “open” (when closest defender is four to six feet away) or “wide open” (when closest defender is more than six feet away) categories in Game 2, according to NBA tracking stats. The Heat shot 21 of 37 (56.8 percent) on those open and wide open threes, with 23 of those 37 three-point attempts labeled as wide open.

“The threes, yeah, that’s how they’re scheming us so far,” said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, with the series now in the middle of another two-day break before moving to Miami for Game 3 on Saturday (6 p.m. TNT and Bally Sports Sun). “Packing the paint and putting an extra defender in front of Tyler or Jaime or whoever is attacking the paint. Those are the available shots. You have to trust, whether it’s a make or a miss. That’s the right play and you have to make that play over and over and over, and we were doing that tonight.”

Herro, one of the Heat’s top three-point shooters, made a team-high six threes and shot a team-high 11 threes in Game 2.

But some of the Heat’s perceived non-shooters or low-volume three-point shooters such as Caleb Martin, Jaquez and Haywood Highsmith also made outside shots. Martin finished 5 of 6 on threes, Jaquez closed 3 of 6 on threes and Highsmith shot 3 of 5 on threes.

“When you go through a game plan, it’s impossible to say we’re going to take away every single thing,” Celtics All-Star forward Jayson Tatum said. “There are certain guys on the floor that you would rather shoot than others. That’s any NBA game you’re going to play. But guys are in the NBA for a reason. Everybody is capable, there’s a lot of capable shooters out there. Anybody can get hot.”

The Heat also made an adjustment on the defense in Game 2 to change the math, switching more often and sending less early help and double-teams to limit the Celtics to just 32 three-point attempts on Wednesday after they shot 49 threes in Game 1. It marked just the fifth time this season that Boston has shot 32 or fewer threes in a game.

Considering the Celtics finished the regular season averaging a league-high 42.5 three-point shot attempts per game while also recording the NBA’s second-best team three-point percentage at 38.8 percent, it’s no surprise that Game 2 was the first time this season that Boston has been outscored by 30 or more points from behind the arc. In fact, Wednesday was the first time since Dec. 10, 2021, that the Celtics have been outscored by 33 or more points on threes in any game.

“That’s part of their game plan, they’re going to leave certain guys open,” Martin said. “You play into the game plan if you hesitate to shoot. I think all of our guys are very, very capable shooters and we shoot the ball too good as a team to hesitate and that only hurts us. We should never hesitate.”

The question is: Will the Celtics feel the need to adjust their defensive game plan after the Heat’s historic three-point shooting display in Game 2? Or do Boston’s coaches view it as an outlier that they’re willing to dare Miami to replicate?

“We’re going to have to find the balance because a lot of those guys that made shots tonight are also good drivers, especially getting downhill,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said. “So we’re going to have to find that balance of making sure we close out appropriately. But we don’t want to start opening up the other side of that. So that will be the adjustment.”

But it sounds like the Celtics will continue to send extra defenders at the Adebayo-Herro pick-and-roll. The Celtics appear to be willing to keep giving up three-point looks to defend that action, especially with Butler (sprained MCL) and Terry Rozier (neck spasms) unavailable to make Boston pay.

“You have to look at the other side of the adjustment,” Mazzulla continued. “So the Herro-Adebayo pick-and-roll is dangerous in itself. You start going to switching or you start inching out to those [three-point shooters] and not having shifts and then you’re making that a 2-on-2 game with their two best players. So the first adjustment is to try to become more efficient on the offensive end.”

The Celtics posted the NBA’s top offensive rating this regular season, so banking on a better offensive performance in Game 3 after scoring just 40 points in the second half of Game 2 is a logical expectation.

But the open threes, albeit probably not as many as in Game 2, could still be there for the Heat in Games 3 and beyond. Miami’s challenge will be to continue taking and making threes to force Boston to change its game plan or simply continue to beat Boston at its own game.

“We’ve been doubted a lot through our playoff runs,” Adebayo said. “There’s people saying we couldn’t do a lot of the stuff that we did. So for me and my team, it’s like why lose belief now? Backs against the wall, everybody is always against us. Use it as fuel.”
