Adele Laurie Blue Adkins is one of the most celebrated vocalists alive today. Her uniquely powerful voice, exceptional vocal talent, songwriting expertise, and relentless drive to improve her craft have cemented her firmly at the top of the music industry – and the charts.

Adele’s impressive songwriting credits, long list of music awards, and consistently sold-out tours are testaments to her widespread fame. Since her debut in 2007, no one can deny she is one of the best vocalists of our time.

Before Adele became a powerhouse musician, she honed her skills during her childhood in London, UK. Adele held a deep passion for singing and refining her vocals from the age of four, which eventually led her to the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. She spent her school years diving deeper into music creation, learning songwriting and guitar. Soon enough, her pathway to success was well within reach.

Following graduation, Adele took the next step toward securing a solid record deal. She quickly landed a recording contract with the UK’s XL Recordings in 2006. Her 2007 single “Hometown Glory” provided a sneak peek of what Adele was capable of. New listeners couldn’t deny her strong, powerful singing range as she belted out her best on the breakthrough track.

Her rise began earnestly when “Chasing Pavements” hit the radio waves in 2008. It slid smoothly onto the UK charts and set the tone for her debut album 19. Adele’s signature sound made waves in mainstream media. She had the voice, songwriting skills, and full-fledged potential to become the next certified phenom.

Because of 19’s undeniable versatility, Adele earned two Grammy awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2009. The stakes were high for the songstress’s follow-up projects, but thanks to Adele’s staple work ethic and natural talent, she tackled her next era with grace.

In 2011, Adele stepped away from her usual ballads with “Rolling in the Deep,” delivering pop-friendly, blues-inspired beats. As the single soared in popularity on the radio and internationally, so did Adele’s star status. Her sophomore studio album 21 dropped in 2011, bringing with it multiple smash hits. With “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” and “Set Fire to the Rain” all topping charts, Adele became the first female artist to have three simultaneous singles in the Billboard top 10. At the next year’s Grammys, Adele took home all six awards she was nominated for, becoming the only woman to ever do so other than Beyoncé.

Adele entered 2015 with more Grammys and renewed vigor under her belt. After nearly eight years since her official debut, the artist was ready to take on her title as one of this generation’s greatest popstars. She effortlessly segued into her next project by releasing the smash hit “Hello.” The single’s nostalgia, regret, and wistfulness weaved their way into listeners’ hearts and laid the groundwork for her next album 25.

With the help of “Hello” and Adele’s impeccable vocal range, 25 was one of the best-selling albums in 2015. It was no easy feat, especially with other top-notch artists like One Direction, Justin Bieber, and Rihanna also releasing new music. However, Adele’s presence pushed forward and remained steady on the worldwide charts.

Her most recent LP 30, released in 2021, continued to take the world by storm. Adele broke new ground as she sang about motherhood, depression, and divorce. It was a candid look into the artist’s private life, unveiling her struggles during the past six years.

Like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and Britney Spears, Adele joins the long list of artists who have made themselves comfortable at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas as performers-in-residence.

As Adele’s discography grows, so does her popularity. Her breathtaking voice, devotion to her creative development, and work on upcoming albums keep her at the top of her game.

Adele continues to tour and perform live. Like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and Britney Spears, Adele joins the long list of artists who have made themselves comfortable at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas as performers-in-residence.

Live reviews

(Adèle in Ziggodome 6-6-2016)

"Make You Feel My Love" blijft bijzonder als cover, hulde ook aan Bob Dylan.

The journey from the center of the arena to the main stage was lit by camera phones and shrieks of joy. Once there, “Hello” transitioned into “Hometown Glory”. London landmarks gave way to the Denver skyline, as the lyrics changed from ‘my hometown’ to ‘your hometown.’ What could have come across as gimmicky at some mainstream country show, somehow rang true as an honest tribute to the city in which Adele was an honored guest. The cynic in me didn’t want to show any emotion, but there was something so enchanting about the way she sang “the wonders of my world”, while images of the Rocky Mountains towered above her, that I just couldn’t help myself. It had been less than ten minutes since she had first appeared and I was already powerless against her charm.

“How many of you did not want to come tonight?”

(only someone with extreme self-confidence would ask that question, so when a few men confirmed, she had the perfect response.)

“Thank you for being a good sport and making my show sold out.”

Speaking as one of those people who don’t listen to Adele’s music on a regular basis, my biggest complaint is the lack of variation across her songs. There is no denying that voice of hers, but I feel like her albums are very vanilla. I do believe her lack of range is by design though. Keeping it safe is what has allowed her to appeal to so many, while offending so few. Last night didn’t exactly change my mind when it came to her songs, but her tremendous personality and sense of humor provided a depth that I wasn’t aware of before. She could have performed the entire concert solo and I would have been entertained. The fact that the screen eventually dropped after “One and Only”, exposing twenty musicians, including a whole crew of extraordinary backup singers, just added to the spectacle.

“My music isn’t that much fun…I hope you knew that.

I do have a couple upbeat ones…

let’s get them out of the way, so we can cry.”

Self-confidence gave way to self-awareness as the crowd came alive for “Rumour Has It” — one of the few songs you could actually dance to. There was a very classic feel to the presentation. The stage was framed in solid light, while Adele’s image projected in black-and-white like some movie star from the 50’s. The stellar band was separated into strings, percussion, and voice; all indispensable to each composition, but also completely anonymous and respectful of who they were there to serve. For a diva, Adele was surprisingly approachable as well. When she asked questions, she made it a point to listen to the answers coming from the front rows. There was a dialogue between her and her fans. When she saw a guy in a purple shirt, passionately singing along, she invited him and his friends on stage to take a selfie.

Hi, my history at the concert is really sad...For months I have tried to reunior the value to tell them..i tell you:

I am Venezuelan, In my country it is very difficult to get money to go to concerts, But adele in mexico was my best opportunity Since I have an uncle living there, So look for money in bank credits and work very hard to get a ticket for the concert and plane to get to mexico on November 15...After a lot of fight and help from incredible people who held out my hand ... I did it Had ticket for the show of November 15, and flew to mexico on November 12 with stopover in panama.

Everything went very well until two days before my trip my boyfriend in a fit of jealousy burned my passport, Yes as I tell them I burn it in a microwave, and there was no way to be able to travel so my dreams were shattered and my bank accounts at zero since the plane tickets were not Refundable and in my country the crisis worsened and it is impossible for me to leave my country now ..

Do not know how much I struggle to go to the show, for me not only is the music of adele she for me is inspiration and admiration for showing that dreams come true so it was very sad for me to lose everything to two days of achieving it.

I regret not having a great story to tell about the show ... sorry for my english I confess to ask the translator for help

I do not know if someone read this, I just know that I finally gathered the courage to be able to tell it .. if I had the opportunity I would try again, no matter if my dream is to go to an adele show, maybe other people have different dreams like knowing Snow, travel to Paris, no matter how big or small the dream or how many people oppose or discourage us, the important thing is not to give up ..

for now I will not be able to reach this dream but I hope I can do it and get up Again until I said I did !!

It is hard to know what to say that hasn't already been said, the list of superlatives has been done and each one is accurate. Adele may be nervous performing live, and there are times where that shows through, but somehow the fact that, arguably, the worlds finest singer shows a vulnerability adds to the performance especially when combined with her self deprecating honesty.

The attention to detail is clear, the fact that she thanks the guy who delivers 'hot honey' by name, thanks the guys who surround the stage during Skyfall and says 'see you all Saturday' shows that she is no Prima Donna artiste, Somehow through a meteoric rise, through all the fame and fortune she still retains that ordinary north London girl wanting to entertain her audience and entertain she does, in spades!

The T Shirts personally signed fired into the crowd, the note left on the back of someone's seat all these acts of kindness make someone's night unforgettable.

However, all of the humour, beautiful touches and adept performance are totally dominated by that voice, that wonderful, utterly unmistakable, beautiful voice which towered over Wembley Stadium and owned the evening. The songs are expertly crafted works of art in their own right and I love them all but if she sang the phone book I would pay to listen.

The highlights for me are predictable, Hello, Skyfall, Feel my Love, Set Fire to the Rain and Someone Like You, all of which were belted out by 100,000 people, these are the spine tingling moments you experience rarely in life. The one song I would still love to hear live is River Lea, lyrically brilliant and one of my all time favourite songs.

If you have never seen Adele perform live you really do need to and this may be your last chance, although I cannot tell you how much I hope it is not!

Having seen Adele previously at the Hammersmith Apollo a few years ago we really wanted to get tickets again, my wife tried for many hours to get tickets for her last tour and when this 4 night tour went on sale she tried again we were successful getting tickets for the Wednesday night, the only problem was she had no choice but to buy the drinking package at £249 each but because we wanted to see her we had no choice but to buy them. We had had an email form Songkick advising us to arrive early for security check which was understandable in the light of recent events, the line to enter was building up when we arrived at 4.30 pm, everyone was waiting for the 5pm opening, 5pm passed and everyone were patient but they did not start letting people in until around 5.20 pm. Eventually we were let in to the Bobby Moore suite to start the evening with a drink, the food choice for the suite was very limited, sushi, salad or hot dog (which were not hot at all), we enjoyed a few glasses of wine before we entered the stadium. Once we got to our seats for the start of the show is when we realised that if we wanted to see anything we should have taken binoculars even though we were only on the second tier to be honest Adele was a dot on the stage. Adele performance was amazing and once again she meet our every expectations she has an brilliant voice and is so down to earth. Paying that kind of money to see her show was worth it just to experience her voice and music, but paying that kind of money for the entry to the Bobbie Moore suite (which was just a function room) was really over priced. We had a fantastic time listening to Adele but the before part was a total waste of money.

Few artists have enjoyed the success over the course of a career spanning several decades that Adele has achieved over the past few years. Escaping the curse of that dreaded second album, ‘21’ propelled Adele into superstardom faster than anyone could have predicted and has broken probably every record that was there to be broken.

Seeing Adele live at the Royal Albert Hall back in 2011 was a really special moment. Clearly overwhelmed by the whirlwind success of the album, she took to the stage with a vulnerability that made her instantly likeable and relatable, whilst still delivering a class A performance.

Chatting to the audience like they were all friends and wanting them to feel like they were watching the gig ‘in their living rooms’, the most special moment of the evening came when the every single member of the 5000 strong audience belted the lyrics to hit single ‘Someone Like You’, leaving a speechless Adele visibly emotional and barely a dry eye in the house.

No big production or special effects were needed, as the beauty of the live arrangements and of those lyrics that made ‘21’ the masterpiece that it is, were enough.

Having publicly admitted that she suffers with severe stage fright, it is probable that we will not witness Adele touring arenas or stadiums. I believe this to be a good thing, as the beauty of her live show could not be appreciated in such big surroundings. Just make sure your one of the few who gets a ticket.

I was waiting ages and hoping Adele would announce a new tour since the 21 tour that i missed for being minutes slow for the tickets.

As the 25 tour was announced my only goal was to get those tickets at any cost! Everything seemed go bad from the start as the page for the ticket pre-sale did not work for me. I had no choice but to divert to viagogo and pay my ass off for two tickets - all my savings were lost... BUT - it definitely WAS WORTH EVERY DIME!

After few hours driving, overnight trip by ship and frustrating times getting to the concert area - We finally really were there.

I did not know what to expect from the show. But what ever it would be, i knew i would love just to see and hear her sing live.

As the show kicked off the feeling was just phenomenal - the emotion was to be hand felt. The show was not rockets, pyros and any fancy stuff... just Adele and smooth graphics and wisely chosen video backgrounds. But what else would it even need - nothing! Because... Adele!

The show kept the audience in it's embrace the whole set. It even made the bond to the audience deeper as she really got involved in person with some of us. She asked a couple fans up on stage and even sang a duet with one!

Anyways - will recommend to go see and hear her live to everyone! Adele is my number one female artist and i would not have missed her live tour again - and am really happy i did not.

Go, see, hear and love Adele!

First, I must say, that show was AMAZING!!!The black & white screen matches her music style perfectly, including the videos playing on.

Let's talk about Adele and her performance. She's a talented singer over the world, of course. Not only she can write and sing such good songs as Hello, When we were young, Send my love, etc., but also she's able to control the live show very well. Her voice, stage style, funny small talk between songs, even the eye contact with each audiences, proves that she can hold this grand show all by herself! That is a two-hour performance without any silence break, except for 3 minutes underground walk from central stage to main stage. It's unbelievable since almost all songs she sang were highly difficult!

She is a kind and responsible singer, also. No matter where you are, you can receive her beautiful smile and shining eyesight during the concert. She can even play jokes nearby the crowd! That must be everybody's good memory! Her humors and straightly personal characters make her so closed with fans. After each song, you may just treat her as a good friend when she talking!

As a VIP, I do think it's valuable to have such good musical listening and watching experience, except for the seat, which is not good enough for a VIP. However, that should be the problem of the hall's condition.

I must say, you should go for at least one Adele's concert in your life!

Our family of 4 daughters, my husband and myself saw Adele on 10/03/17, her first Sydney show. We have loved Adele since we listened to her first album in 2010. As soon as we heard she was coming we knew we had to be there. Even though we were seated very far away from the stage Adele made everyone of the 950000 crowd feel like we were all much closer.

Every moment was fantastic, Adele's phenomenal voice, the amazing video footage of Adele's eyes opening as the show started to the final song of Someone Like You, where the sound of the huge crowd singing in unison with Adele was unlike anything I have ever heard. The circular stage setup was amazing, giving everyone access to seeing Adele. Adele walked the circle giving every part of the stadium a chance to see her. The video footage that played with the songs was beautiful and ensured you kept your eyes on the stage.

The set list was a wonderful collection of Adele's 3 albums. Her interaction with the audience was funny, sincere and she really made us feel like we were right there with her.

I think when you see your daughters crying with the emotion of getting to see Adele live and then more crying because it was even better than you could of dreamed, speaks volumes. I would see her again in a heartbeat if I could and would say to anyone if you can go then do it!

I attended her concert in the biggest venue here in Oslo, Norway – Telenor Arena. It is perhaps mostly known for its lack of acoustic quality. The room is simply put way too big and sterile for that. Nevertheless; The Adele Tour team actually pulled it off this time though, and were able to fill the «dead» space in a more that satisfying manner.

Now, enough said about the venue. To the music: Being the big fan that I am it would be hard to hide my subjective judgement of the performance and music presented by Adele. But with that said I think it is fair to say that she, as a performer, is one of the best there is in the world today. She gives a lot of herself to the audience and often includes random attendees in the most spontaneous ways.

Music wise there is almost nothing to say other than that it is absolutely outstanding. Adele brings such a huge presence with her voice, unlike anyone else in the industry. Even the less “complicated” songs become big and overwhelmingly magnificent.

All in all, you get the feeling that Adele knows how it is to be “on the other side” (had to write that) and therefore she isn’t afraid of posing for a selfie or giving out large amounts of waves to the crowd.

There is no doubt that Adele forever will be remembered as one of the greatest artist of our century.

Adele Revealed The First 30 Tour Dates

Here’s what to know about Adele's upcoming 30 tour.

Ahead of the release of her highly anticipated fourth studio album, 30 , Adele has revealed the first tour dates where she’ll be performing her new body of work.

Though she now lives in Los Angeles, the singer will be returning to her hometown for the dates: two nights in London’s Hyde Park next summer, where all-time greats like the Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac have played.

The dates are scheduled for July 1 and 2, 2022, according to Adele’s posts on social media announcing them. The rollout for 30 has been a slow reveal, with Adele first sharing that 30 was on the way in a lengthy Instagram post, followed by two profiles for Vogue and British Vogue . In her Instagram post, the singer noted how much she’s changed since she first wrote and recorded 30 three years ago.

“I was certainly nowhere near where I’d hoped to be when I first started it nearly
3 years ago,” Adele wrote on Instagram. “Quite the opposite actually. I rely on routine and consistency to feel
safe, I always have. And yet there I was knowingly — willingly even, throwing
myself into a maze of absolute mess and inner turmoil!
I’ve learned a lot of blistering home truths about myself along the way. I’ve shed
many layers but also wrapped myself in new ones. Discovered genuinely useful
and wholesome mentalities to lead with, and I feel like I’ve finally found my
feeling again. I’d go as far as to say that I’ve never felt more peaceful in my life.”

For those who won’t be at the London shows, Adele will also perform a “One Night Only” concert special for CBS , which will be accompanied by an interview with Oprah and air Sunday, Nov. 14.

Until then, you can listen to the first single off 30, “ Easy On Me,” and learn about the meaning behind the song here .

Adele sings in front of Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles during a televised concert to promote her fourth album, 30 , which chronicles the aftermath of her divorce in ways that take subtle chances with the star's signature cathartic style.

Watching the cozily epic concert segments of Adele's album-launching Oprah special Sunday evening, I couldn't help thinking she'd gifted reviewers with a metaphor. She stood on the steps of the Griffith Observatory in a gown that enclosed her shoulders like a black cirrus cloud, glittering Saturn-shaped baubles dangling from her ears. A tattoo of the orb with her current home, Los Angeles, at its center graced the forearm holding her microphone. In interviews, Adele has mentioned astrological reasons for this imagery — the tumultuous Saturn return that occurs at the cusp of turning 30 — but it says something about her status in the pop world, too. With her massive voice, unique charisma and enduring hit-making power, Adele is not just another star, but her own planet. Her movements shift the very tides of pop.

Can a planet come down to earth? That's the question Adele asks in her fourth studio release, 30 , a chronicle of divorce and soul-searching recovery that is, more crucially, a thrilling redefinition of Adele's artistry. She hasn't abandoned her reliable templates — there's a dance-floor stomper, "Oh My God," that will please fans of "Rolling In the Deep," and more than one epic ballad built to unfurl stormily through a concert hall. But while Adele earned adulation for evoking, in listeners, the sense of being enveloped in emotion, on 30 she offers a more varied experience. It's a shift that's sometimes subtle, evident in lyrics that make more room for both self-criticism and a sense of perspective, and in the way she responds to the rhythms and background voices within each song instead of merely powering forward. She's in command, but taking chances. "Complacency is the worst trait to have, are you crazy?" she sings over a beat that bears the perfume of lovers rock on "Woman Like Me," one of several tracks produced by Inflo, the producer behind the U.K. R&B collective Sault . She's dressing down a potential new lover who's disappointed her, but she could be offering a motto for her thirtysomething self.

Adele's stance throughout 30 is one of engagement — with her own inner struggles, with the new world that opens up as she leaves a marriage and with the musical milieu that has emerged since 25 came out in 2015. Adele has, it seems, been listening to young contenders on both sides of the Atlantic, from London sensations Celeste and Cleo Sol to American R&B standard-bearer Jazmine Sullivan. Her ability to modulate her voice has grown and balanced out her sheer power, and she engages it to try different methods of phrasing, to quiet down in the way many vibe-seeking chanteuses do now. That's a risky move, but Adele remains self-aware. The storyteller who once strummed in London's Brockwell Park with friends returns in those moments to balance out her experiments with the salt of her essential plainspokenness, the quality that has always made Adele herself.

"Mama's got a lot to learn," she murmurs in the chorus of "My Little Love," a hip-hop pastiche and the most experimental track on 30 , which incorporates phone voice notes of conversations about loss and safety between the newly single mom and son Angelo . The song is a mood tracker, but that lyric also serves as an admission of the challenge Adele faces as a white woman who, like nearly every white musician, remains hugely indebted to Black progenitors.

Adele became one of the century's most beloved singers by cultivating a space beyond musical trends, grounded in a mobile retro-pop sound that borrowed equally from the soul-driven 1960s, the blockbuster 1980s and the timeless practice of untethering big ballads from any context whatsoever. She stood on this surface and, sharing tales of heartache, made it a sanctuary, but as long as she stayed there it could often feel like she was in musical dialogue with nothing and no one. 30 , on the other hand, engages with the world — through lyrics that trade adolescent romanticism for genuine self-examination, arrangements that reflect the present moment, and a vocal presence as warm and multifaceted as Adele is in interviews and her onstage patter, where she's a pal who tells long stories and makes jokes, not a gravitational force.

The third decade of the 21st century is not a time of big voices. It's tempting to view Adele as the last of something, but her genius is in confusing scale, in translating her grandeur into relatability. Adele may stand alone in the pop universe, but when you, the listener, are immersed in her music, she stands alone with you . This ability to connect as a feelingful person, to be a friendly planet, has always been as important as the sublimity of her voice. That gift hasn't faded; she can still animate a strictly emblematic chorus like, "Hold on, you are still strong, love will still come," with the lifeblood of spontaneity.

Several elements merge to make this Adele's most musically interesting and conceptually rich work. The starting point is that better-trained voice, which at times sounds like an entirely new instrument. Years of care following an early-career vocal cord injury have led her to explore registers beyond her reliable gut, and she's become more intuitive, conversational and in touch with the grooves and dancebeats her producers craft for her. Those collaborators take up the challenge Adele posed for herself by writing songs that dwell on complicated and sometimes even ugly feelings — the guilt she feels at breaking up her family and her distress at trying to explain divorce to her son, the alternating excitement and fear as she finds herself unpartnered for the first time in her adult life — and don't automatically reach for the catharsis of big notes that won her international devotion. Don't worry, swoon junkies, those notes still hit sometimes. But Adele is more likely to trade them in for a funky breakbeat, as she does on "Can I Get It," or the gentle push and pull of those gliding "E"s on the album's first single , "Easy On Me."

Fans determined to weep their way through 30 as they have with Adele's previous albums may be disappointed. This chronicle of separation does not aggressively serve up heartbreak. Though the publicity campaign has presented the album as a reflection of pain and anxiety after Adele's split from her partner of 10 years, Simon Konecki, its spirit is one of musical play: the singer trying out different tones and techniques, from the jazz standards-inspired opener, "Strangers By Nature" (with its immortally campy first line, "I'll be taking flowers to the cemetery of my heart") to the loose, Honky Chateau -era Eltonisms of "I Drink Wine" and the sinuous flow of the delightedly sensual "All Night Parking," which kicks off with a light-handed sample from the late Pittsburgh jazz great Erroll Garner and transforms it into a sample around which Adele wraps a vocal as light as twilight air.

The free musical mood of 30 correlates with the story it tells, of a breakup that's more complicated than the ones Adele immortalized in high Romantic ballads like "Hello." In her Oprah interview, Adele made it clear that she was the instigator of her divorce, not because Konecki, who remains a "best friend," was abusive or neglectful but because she felt herself growing beyond the relationship. She chose to break up the home for which she'd longed as a child of divorce, and hazard her son's pain, in the name of greater ultimate happiness for everyone involved. This most common kind of split engenders emotions that her adored songs of contemplative romantic desolation, like "Hello" or "Someone Like You," don't quite serve: the shame of being the heartbreaker, the doubt that comes with loneliness, the need to find a way through ambiguity toward inner strength.

"Cry your heart out, it'll clean your face," an auto-tuned phalanx of voices advises Adele in "Cry Your Heart Out" as she details her daily stumbles. "When you're in doubt, go at your own pace." Adele answers this Motown-style Greek chorus with lighthearted crankiness: "Please stop calling me, it's exhausting," she sighs. But she owns her mess. "I created this storm, it's only fair I have to sit in its rain," she sings, adding a little vocal run to boost her own self-confidence. It's not "Love on Top," but she's getting there.

The arrangement of "Cry Your Heart Out" tricks out the template of the girl group sound in a new way, as have many other savvy miners of R&B history, from the Pointer Sisters to Lauryn Hill and Adele's standard-bearer, Beyonce. Adele has never truly orbited alone through pop's omniverse — she began her career within a group of fusion-oriented singer-songwriters including Estelle, Rumer, Duffy and Corinne Bailey Rae, and now she's connecting with a new wave of jazz-soul artists like Celeste and Sault (and perhaps finally nodding musically to her "best friend," Drake). And always, she's thinking of Queen Bey.

Longtime collaborators like Max Martin, Tobias Jesso, Jr. and Greg Kurstin accommodate these alignments with varying degrees of subtlety; Kurstin co-wrote and produced "My Little Love," and was seemingly inspired by similar spoken interludes on both Sullivan's Heaux Tales and Sault's Nine . Most telling, however, is her new partnership with Inflo, who helms three tracks, including the gospelized show-stopper "Hold On." That production's slow crescendo from a misty beginning, with its choir in the distance, to the familiar monumentalism of an Adele barn-burner does something to the form. It makes the song feel more connected to everything in music that made it possible, building a world around it.

'you can't prepare yourself': a conversation with adele.

Another important musical work whose makers built a world around it, of course, is Beyonce's Lemonade , the masterwork that Adele's last album defeated at the Grammys in 2017 , much to the horror of most intelligent music fans, including the planetary voice herself . It's tempting to identify 30 as Adele's own version of that inimitable expression of heartache and resolve, but such comparisons can only go so far. Lemonade engaged history in a way that 30 , whose triumphs are stylistic and aesthetic but not political, cannot. It spoke for a community, a "we," in a way that Adele, I think, would not strive to emulate. In fact, one of the strengths of 30 is its grounding in unmistakably personal details, both sonic and lyrical. Adele still gravitates toward expertly rendered big flourishes — the couplet that grounds "Hold On," "May time be patient / may pain be gracious," is one of her best — but she is also learning that it can be fruitful to go small in a song, to write or sing something that puts aside the universal for the delicate, the offhand, the small gamble. 30 still offers many ways for Adele to be our planet, high in the sky, making us marvel. But it's best when she touches down.

The artist recently resumed her ‘Weekends With Adele’ Las Vegas residency, which will be running at Caesar’s Palace until June after being extended .

In the middle of the show, Adele revealed that fans will probably have a while to wait before she releases the follow-up to 2021’s ’30’ , but she will tour it more than she has done with albums in the past.

““I just don’t think I’m gonna write an album for quite some time,” she told her audience last night (January 27). “But next time I do, I’ll come to wherever it is you live.”

A few months ago, Adele mentioned that the Vegas residency has helped her “fall back in love with performing live again”.

“I needed to reconnect with my songs and remember what they mean to me, and I have!” Adele wrote on X when it was announced her residency was being extended.

“Being on stage over the last year so up close and personal with an audience again after all these years has been a truly extraordinary restorative experience that I’ll never forget. All the hilarious, soulful, wild and heartbreaking interactions we’ve had are banked in my mind for life. The looks on your faces, seeing you laugh and cry together singing your hearts out and hoarding bags of confetti. All the simi dolls, friendship bracelets, flowers, facetime calls and flags. It’s crazy how joyful a show full of sad songs can be!!”

Adele also recently explained why she has had such large gaps between her albums .

“Sometimes I wonder if people think I’m calculated when I disappear for years on end and I’m elusive and I believe that less is more or something like that,” she said. But the real reason that I’ve only had four albums and I don’t think that many people know this – they know that I have a child – my son is 11 years old. So if you do the math, that means that at the height of ‘21’… I fell pregnant. To many that would be, and it was, considered career suicide.

“It was there and then that I chose to reject the scarcity of success, and the idea that you have to be constantly relevant to be successful,” she continued. “And that perhaps, just maybe, I could be a hit both on and off the stage. And you’ll never guess what — I fucking got away with it!”

Adele – ’30’ review: Superstar turns pain into power on most personal album yet

Six years on from her last record, adele explores new sounds and examines the pain of her divorce with stunning results.

By Cliff Joannou

Adele poses for a photoshoot

Adele is back and she would like you to know a few things. First, she is working through her feelings from a divorce. Second, she is not OK, but she’s getting over it. And third, she is now in Hollywood, as you might have noticed from her Griffith Observatory show played to a crowd of A-listers.

Our Tottenham homegirl is now a full time Los Angeles resident, a point she makes clear from the outset on album opener Strangers By Nature , the Judy Garland-esque ballad written and produced with composer and conductor Ludwig Göransson. “ I’ve never seen the sky this colour before / It’s like I’m noticing everything a little bit more,” Adele sings as she takes us by the hand and through to her most personal collection of songs yet.

Leaning into her new home city’s heritage, vintage Hollywood inflections pepper the album – most notably on Strangers By Nature and the euphonious romance of All Night Parking – although Adele deftly avoids 30 becoming too much of a concept album that might have otherwise worked against appealing to a more mainstream fanbase, or alienating her British audience.

Strangers By Nature is as experimental as Adele gets on this outing, its romantic musings winking back to her debut, 19 . While the rest of 30 might lack the dextrous lyrical quirks that defined Adele’s earliest recordings, this is her most cohesive album to date.

Where on 25 it felt as if Adele was leaning perhaps too much into formula and struggling to find a creative niche through which to successfully step out from the shadow of predecessor 21 , here the singer-songwriter takes more confident – if safer – steps forward.

Peeling back the layers of anxiety, divorce, helplessness and a feeling that she has failed her son, Adele delivers a raw outpouring of emotion on My Little Love , which coming from a lesser singer could have slipped into the melodramatic. “I know you feel lost, it’s my fault completely” she sings before confessing over voice notes “ I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing / I’m sorry if what I’ve done makes you sad… I feel lonely, I never feel lonely, I love being alone.”

The tempo is raised on Cry Your Heart Out , the bouncing beats running counter to her message: “ Cry your heart out / It’ll clean your face / when you’re in doubt / go at your own pace… no feeling is a waste” she advises as she picks herself up off the floor, brushing off sorrow on what is one of just a handful of the album’s upbeat moments. It’s an instant contender for a follow-up single, until the opening riff of Oh My God kicks in and we’re sucked into 30 ’s most carefree belter as Adele embraces new love. “ Maybe baby I’m losing my mind / cause this is trouble, but it feels right / teetering on the edge,” she declares as her desire bubbles over, cheekily exclaiming, “ I know that it’s wrong, but I want to have fun. ” It’s the Adele song we deserve to hear on radio.

By comparison, the Max Martin produced Can I Get It falls a little flat. While unoffensive, it doesn’t have the dexterity or imagination of the far better songs it follows, and could have been plucked from any number of Martin’s broad back catalogue. Adele deserves better, and fortunately the album has enough high points to distract us.

Fans will heap praise on I Drink Wine , although its song writing is not Adele’s most adventurous. It’s fine and does the job, but sits in safer territory alongside pleasant first single Easy On Me – there is more adventure to be had on 30 .

The tone gets fiercer on Woman Like Me , produced and co-written with Inflo, in which Adele delivers an angry, resentful and defiant statement on separation: “ Complacency is the worst trait to have / are you crazy? You ain’t ever had a woman like me / It is so sad a man could be so lazy. ”

The confessions continue with Hold On , a tender moment that climaxes on a cloud of positivity as a mighty choir – voices provided by ‘friends of Adele’ – carries her along as she unpicks her isolation and dives into healing: “I am my own worst enemy / right now I truly hate being me… how do I feel so mighty small / when I’m struggling to feel at all / sometimes loneliness is only rest we get. ”

To Be Loved , the album’s longest track at close to seven minutes, has Adele holding a mirror up to her sorrow and self-assessing her past loves – “ I’m so afraid but I’m open wide / I’ll be the one to catch myself this time” – she sings on the epic ballad before delivering an end note to satisfy those that miss the female vocal crescendos of 90s Mariah and Celine. “Let it be known that I tried” she delivers with power – we know Ms Adkins, we know.

Closing the set with Love is a Game , Adele dives back into the album’s retro soulful melodies on a song that sits curiously close to Amy Winehouse’s Love is a Losing Game musically and lyrically, but without the latter’s more despairing edge. “How unbelievable of me to fall / for the lies that I tell, the dream that I sell / When heartache it’s inevitable / But I’m no good at doing it well,” she sings resignedly, ending 30 with a sentiment of hopelessness and inevitability that Adele is more than well-aware of being her moniker.

Success is a difficult place to be when you are one of the world’s best-selling artists. A stumble is as big as a fall when you sell in the millions and break records with every release. As a collection it excels in quality beyond 25 , and no doubt at this point – six years since that last hit album – every song, note and melody would have been poured over, dissected, curated, picked and perfected. While 30 is not Adele’s purest moment, and fans of her first two albums will miss the irreverence and wit that we know from her television interviews, this is by far her most heartrendingly honest work to date, and that will be more than enough to continue Adele’s dominance as one of the world’s greatest artists.

Adele Unveils First ‘30′ Tour Dates

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Adele , master of the slow reveal, has unveiled what appear to be the first two dates of the tour in support of her forthcoming album “30” — and they’re a blockbuster: two nights in London’s Hyde Park next summer, the sprawling green in the middle of her hometown that has hosted concerts by everyone from the Rolling Stones and Queen to Elton John and Blur.

Adele announced the dates, which are scheduled for July 1 and 2, 2022, on social media early Tuesday.

She announced earlier this month in a lengthy Instagram post that her long-awaited ‘30’ album will be released on Nov. 19. The first single, “Easy on Me,” dropped earlier this month.

In the post, she writes: “I was certainly nowhere near where I’d hoped to be when I first started it nearly 3 years ago. Quite the opposite actually. I rely on routine and consistency to feel safe, I always have. And yet there I was knowingly – willingly even, throwing myself into a maze of absolute mess and inner turmoil! I’ve learned a lot of blistering home truths about myself along the way. I’ve shed many layers but also wrapped myself in new ones. Discovered genuinely useful and wholesome mentalities to lead with, and I feel like I’ve finally found my feeling again. I’d go as far as to say that I’ve never felt more peaceful in my life.

The album finds the singer working again with Greg Kurstin — who paired famously well with her on “25” — and Max Martin, Inflo (known for his work with Sault) and Swedish composer and producer Ludwig Göransson, who won an Academy Award for his “Black Panther” score and has worked closely with Childish Gambino. There are no featured guests on the record.

Adele Is ‘Ready To Go’ On Tour After New Album Drops: ‘As Soon As Possible’

Get excited Adele fans, because the singer said she's ready to kickstart her tour to promote all the emotional tunes from her coming album, '30.'

Adele

Adele  has a new album ,  30 , coming out on November 19, which should mean a world tour will come afterwards— right? Well in the era of COVID, things are a bit more complicated these day when it comes to live performances. But in the latest “73 Questions” video interview for  Vogue , the 33-year-old singer confirmed that she’ “ready” to get back on tour — so long as fans stay focused on following health and safety protocols.

“As soon as possible. I’m ready to go,” Adele said in the interview, which was released on Thursday, October 21 and can be seen below. “Really…It’s just up to COVID,” the superstar added. “So just keep on wearing your masks and don’t be spreading that Delta and who knows?”

Adele’s last tour was “Adele Live 2016,” which began on February 29, 2016. The Grammy winner performed for millions at locations in Ireland, Western Europe, North American, and more. The tour was scheduled to end on July 2, 2017, but she had to cancel the final two shows due to vocal injuries. The full tour was in support of her album  25 , which included hit singles like “Hello,” “When We Were Young,” and “Water Under the Bridge.”

Adele took a years-long reprieve from music after the  25  tour. But now she’s back, and  30  is coming in just a few weeks! The new album is inspired by her 2019 divorce from  Simon Konecki . It’s lead single is the emotional ballad “ Easy On Me ,” which Adele released to her eager fans on October 14. The new song actually comes full circle to songs’ past, beginning the same way that the “Hello” music video began and seemingly featuring the same home.

Adele

Fans had been anxiously waiting for new music from Adele for years, and in 2021, Internet rumors surfaced that claimed the album would be coming before the end of the year. Interestingly,  Taylor Swift announced in September that she’d be pushing up the release of  her next project,  Red (Taylor’s Version) , from Nov. 19 to Nov. 12. This led to speculation that Taylor was paving the way for Adele to have a Nov. 19 album release, but that theory has not been confirmed.

Now, the highly-anticipated album is coming November 19. And fingers crossed, an amazing tour will follow!

30 Questions for Adele’s ‘ 30’

Portrait of Justin Curto

Hello. It’s Adele. She’s been wondering if, after all these years, you’d like to hear some new music. [ Silence. ] No … we swear this isn’t another spam call. After days of teasing and years of rumors , the singer-songwriter announced that her first song in just shy of six years, “Easy on Me,” will come out October 15. What do we know about it? Well, it’s got some crisp piano chords and a black-and-white music video, per the 21-second clip she posted to Twitter, which is to say — it’s an Adele song. Otherwise, at this point, Adele Atkins has left us with more questions than answers about her return, on the yet-unconfirmed album 30 (if that’s even its real name). Here are 30 of the biggest things we’re wondering.

1. So … we’re back to numbers? Promoting 25 , Adele told Zane Lowe, “I think this will be my last age one” — referring, of course, to her signature titling, following her albums 19 and 21 . (The years refer to her age when starting the album, not when it comes out; she’s 33 now.) Yet if her upcoming album is titled 30 , as she’s hinted via a billboard campaign , it seems that those titles may have been harder to ditch. Though she may have alluded to why in the same interview. “I feel like the idea of calling albums after my age is showing a photograph almost of what’s going on in my life then and there,” she said. “I feel like not that much is going to change profoundly in me from now on in terms of how important eras of my life are to myself.”

2. But did she ever think about calling it Lady Gaga ? Adele also told Lowe her fourth album could be self-titled. But back in 2019, Lady Gaga seemed to beat her to the punch , (jokingly) tweeting, “I’m calling my next album ADELE.” Think Adele ever considered returning the favor?

3. What does Adele have up her sleeve to announce 30 ? Sure, we’ve seen the billboards, but 30 still hasn’t officially been announced. When it comes to single and album announcements, Adele has tended to veer traditional — but she is , after all, a pop star. So should we expect a big social-media campaign? A massive debut event ? Leveraging her new beau’ s connections for an ESPN spot ?

4. What did Adele have to do with the Facebook and Instagram shutdown? Was that the beginning of the 30 rollout? Exhibit A:

5. What does “Easy on Me” mean? Adele’s 21-second “Easy on Me” teaser clip includes zero seconds of vocals, leaving us to go wild wondering what the song is even about. Is it a breakup song asking a former lover to go easy on her, given the visual of her driving off with a packed trailer? Or is it about something bigger, like maybe the world going easy on her? Or maybe it’s just a message to stans to chill.

6. Will 30 be a divorce album? The biggest change in Adele’s life since releasing 25 has been her 2019 divorce from Simon Konecki , after the couple had been together since 2011. Granted, she was 31 when they separated and filed for divorce. But could the queen of heartbreak have something more devastating than “Someone Like You” up her sleeve?

7. Is 30 the drum-and-bass record she promised? This isn’t the first time we’re hearing of 30 — in fact, Adele referenced it in an Instagram post when she turned 31. “Bunch of fucking savages, 30 will be a drum n bass record to spite you,” she wrote , in a post about how “30 tried me so hard.” (Possibly an early “Easy on Me” clue.) An Adele club record? We would like to hear it ( and see her put her moves to use )!

8. Who directed the “Easy on Me” video? Adele doesn’t mess around when it comes to her visuals — “Rolling in the Deep” won the Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video, while “Hello” saw her working with Canadian luminary Xavier Dolan. The “Easy on Me” clip seems to carry over Dolan’s black-and-white “Hello” aesthetic, but Adele has also expressed a desire to work with Carol ’s Todd Haynes , who does have some experience working on music projects . Anyway, in addition to the video, can her makeup artist please drop this winged eyeliner tutorial?

9. What happened to expecting her album in September … 2020? Way back in February 2020, Adele told someone at a friend’s wedding to “expect my album in September.” On one hand, she could’ve just been messing with them, as she’s prone to do . On another, she could’ve gotten delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which hit a month later. But on a third hand, has she just been sitting on this the whole time?

10. So did she trick Lorne Michaels into booking her on Saturday Night Live in 2020? Adele turned heads when she was booked as host, and not musical guest, on an October episode of SNL last year, weeks after that alleged release date came and went. Some fans, though, still held out that she might have a crumb of album news to promote on the show. Nope! “My album’s still not finished,” she admitted, live on television on October 25, 2020 . Guess Lorne really is just a big fan .

11. But why did Taylor Swift move her Red (Taylor’s Version) release date? As rumors of Adele’s return continued to bubble last week, Taylor Swift announced that, supply chain be damned, her rerecorded Red (Taylor’s Version) would arrive a week ahead of schedule, on November 12. To some, it looked a little too obvious: Was Taylor making way for an Adele drop on November 19? They may not be on the same label (Swift is on Republic Records, under Universal Music Group; Adele is on XL Recordings and Columbia Records, under Sony Music Entertainment), but they are noted friends, and we know Swift looks out for her friends.

12. So what happened with that Taylor collab? In July, a fan account suggested that Adele had actually been writing with Taylor Swift , reporting that the two registered a song called “Broken Hearts” with the Society of European Stage Authors and Composers. An E! News source promptly denied the rumor — but wouldn’t that be a convenient narrative for a musician trying to keep their upcoming album a secret? Plus, it’d be all the more reason for Swift to move her Red release date to not compete with an album featuring another one of her own songs.

13. And what about Beyoncé? Around 25 , Adele shot down rumours that she snubbed Beyoncé , one of her favorite musicians of all time , for a collaboration. Years later, Ryan Tedder alluded to a Beyoncé–Adele linkup , only to later cruelly clarify he was joking. Which all begs the question: Where did these rumors even come from? Was a Bey duet ever in the works? And if so, could it be hidden on 30 , perhaps?

14. Will Adele get to be funny on 30 ? Time and time again, Adele has made us laugh — just not on record, where her songs veer toward the serious(ly sad). There’s no evidence that’ll be changing on 30 , but we can dream.

15. Will Adele rap on 30 ? Because we know she has the bars.

16. Was a Skepta feature ever in the works? And while we’re at it, did they actually date ? Did they break up? The people (this writer) need to know!

17. Did any Skepta breakup songs make the album? That is, of course, if they actually dated and broke up in the first place!

18. Has Rich Paul heard 30 ? And when can we expect his and LeBron’s review? (And the ESPN 30 for 30 , literally! )

19. Will Adele keep expanding her circle of collaborators? 25 found Adele working with a wider array of producers than ever, bringing pop giants like Max Martin and Greg Kurstin and more independent-minded producers like Danger Mouse and Ariel Rechtshaid into the fold, alongside her standbys like Paul Epworth and Ryan Tedder. How will the credits look this time: Will she finally write with a woman? Has Jack Antonoff gotten close to Adele?

20. Can we expect her son to pop up on a song? Does Adele want to follow in Beyoncé’s footsteps and work with her own child? Adele’s son, Angelo, turns 9 days after “Easy on Me” comes out, meaning during the making of 30 , he would’ve been around Blue Ivy’s age when she dropped a feature on “Brown Skin Girl.” Adele has said before she wants to keep her son out of the spotlight, but come on: How cute would this be?

21. Will 30 be Adele’s California album? Another big change since 25 : Adele now owns a home ( well, three ) in California, and apparently spends a good chunk of time there, given it’s where she filed for divorce. California — especially the ’60s and ’70s Laurel Canyon music scene, including performers like Joni Mitchell and Carole King — has been a prominent muse in pop over the past few years, from Lana del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell to Clairo’s Sling . Maybe Adele has been feeling similarly inspired.

22. Will she cover anything? Adele has made covers a mainstay of her repertoire, tackling Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” on 19 and the Cure’s “Lovesong” on 21 , along with songs like Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and Sam Cooke’s “That’s It, I Quit, I’m Movin’ On” live. 25 , though, was her first album of fully original material, leaving 30 to either return to tradition or make that the new trend.

23. And who will take the challenge of covering new Adele music? Because you just know someone will be up for it. 25 inspired renditions by everyone from Céline Dion to Wiz Khalifa . Think Lil Nas X is down for this challenge, too ?

24. Will we be able to stream 30 ? When she released 25 , Adele made the gutsy decision not to put the album on streaming services right away . And it paid off, with the musician breaking the single-week American sales record for the Nielsen era in just three days. The world has only become more reliant on music streaming in the years since 25 — and Adele did eventually put the album on streaming months later — but if there were a pop star who could still successfully hold out from streaming in 2021, it might be her.

25. Will she break her sales record? Speaking of which: What of that sales record? Adele sold 3.378 million copies of 25 in its first week, besting previous record-holders ‘N Sync (for 2000’s No Strings Attached ) by nearly a million copies. The thought of breaking a record for pure album sales — that is, no streaming — in 2021 seems baffling, but then again, she did it once in 2015! And between the six-year wait for 30 and Adele’s popularity among Gen-X and boomer audiences, expect a good chunk of sales regardless.

26. What’s this about a TV special? Sources told Vulture that, along with prepping to release new music, Adele has been shopping around a TV special . She did something similar around 25 , airing concerts on NBC and the BBC; this time, the reported event could hit streaming or a network like CBS before the end of the year.

27. And we can expect Adele back on SNL , right? Adele’s career broke in the U.S. thanks largely to her 2008 Saturday Night Live performance. Since then, she’s returned twice, as musical guest in 2015 and host in 2020 . Given how down she is for sketches , and that producer Lorne Michaels is a fan , we can be pretty sure to see her back as a performer this year. And while she said last year she wouldn’t think about doing double duty as host and musical guest, could she have a change of heart this go-round?

28. Will she tour 30 ? Adele faked fans out around 25 , holding off on announcing a world tour only to later drop the news — and send over 10 million people scrambling for tickets . As that tour came to a close in 2017, though, Adele told fans in New Zealand that she’d thought about giving touring up. “I don’t know if I will ever tour again,” she said. Years (not to mention a pandemic shutdown) later, has she had a change of heart ? Perhaps not, given a new report in Billboard that she’s plotting a 2022 Las Vegas residency, to be able to live somewhere consistent, spend time with her son, and be close to her L.A. home.

29. Will 30 be her Grammys three-peat? No pressure, but if Adele’s 21 and 25 Grammy track record continues with 30 , she could break a slew of records. Both of those albums won Album of the Year, and a third win would make Adele among the most-decorated performers in that category, alongside Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, and most recently, Taylor Swift. Adele could also be the second to win for three successive albums, after Stevie Wonder. But both times Adele won Album of the Year, she also took home Record and Song of the Year for singles off those albums, effectively sweeping the general categories (aside from Best New Artist, which she already won off 19 ). A third Record of the Year win would tie her with Paul Simon for the most among performers, while a third Song of the Year win (assuming she has a credit on the song) would give her the record for the most.

30. How much will we cry? Oh, wait, we know this one! A lot.

Adele Has a Lot of Big Feelings on ‘30’

The British superstar’s first album in six years deals with divorce and moving on, countering misery with virtuosity.

Adele, wearing a black outfit and hugging her knees to her chest, in front of an off-white backdrop.

By Jon Pareles

When a song makes you cry, are you crying for the singer? For the story the song tells? For the way it reflects your own experiences and memories? On “30,” her fourth album, Adele Adkins pushes for all of those at once, counting on her untrammeled musicality to pull together the empathy of pop with personal sympathy for a performer who’s grappling with motherhood, fame and changes of heart.

It’s an album, Adele has said on Instagram and in her Nov. 14 concert-and-interview TV special with Oprah Winfrey , about her divorce from Simon Konecki, the father of their child, Angelo. It’s also about the aftermath: guilt, drinking, depression, loneliness, self-doubt and, eventually, moving on. The split is apparently amicable; Konecki shares custody and lives across the street from Adele in Beverly Hills.

Adele chose to divorce because, she told Rolling Stone, “I didn’t like who I was.” She addresses it most directly in “I Drink Wine,” a crescendo of confession and self-help underpinned by churchy piano and organ: “How can one become so bounded by choices that somebody else makes?” she sings. “How come we’ve both become a version of a person we don’t even like?”

In her six years between albums — a gap extended by the pandemic — Adele has largely stood aside from the miniaturization and gimmickiness of current pop hitmaking. She can; she’s one of the few remaining stars with ardent fans across multiple generations, and she keeps her ear on pop’s history more than on fleeting trends.

Adele ended her televised concert extolling “real music,” “live music” and “real artistry,” virtues of the vanished analog era. While many current streaming hits are just two minutes long, half of the songs on “30” run longer than five minutes, including extended stretches of piano and voice alone, taking their time and savoring dynamic, non-metronomic ups and downs. Adele doesn’t rule out electronics, but she makes clear that she doesn’t have to rely on them.

Her voice — cooing, declaiming, arguing, teasing, imploring, quivering, breaking, shouting — is rightfully at the center. Even as she sings about desperation and uncertainty, on “30” Adele’s voice is more supple and purposeful than ever, articulating every consonant and constantly ornamenting her melodies without distracting from them. Details are fastidious; in “I Drink Wine,” she sings “I’m trying to keep climbing up” while her voice rises in an upward arpeggio. Her emotion is always matched by her concentration.

The songs on “30” can be extravagantly theatrical. The album begins with “Strangers by Nature” and ends with “Love Is a Game”: leisurely, string-laden ballads that evoke bygone Hollywood opulence. Yet their lyrics frame the other songs on “30” with a new, grown-up skepticism and ambivalence about love itself: In “Love Is a Game,” Adele belts, “What a cruel thing to self-inflict that pain.”

In “Cry Your Heart Out,” the chorus is delivered mockingly — “Cry your heart out, clean your face” — from a computer-tuned girl group, over a beat that evolves imperceptibly from vintage Motown to reggae. But in the verses, even as Adele sings with a cheerful lilt, her lyrics hit a depressive nadir — “I have nothing to feel no more/I can’t even cry” — and face her own culpability: “I created this storm/It’s only fair I have to sit in its rain.” As she does throughout “30,” Adele combats misery with virtuosity.

Most of the songs are produced, co-written and largely played by the supremely flexible Greg Kurstin, who abets tracks as varied as the bare-bones piano ballad “Easy on Me” — a plea and a self-justification — and “Oh My God,” a foot-stomper that has Adele wondering whether it’s too soon, or she’s too bruised, to flirt again. Adele enlisted the mathematically minded Swedish pop experts Max Martin and Shellback for “Can I Get It,” which provides a mid-album lift with an upbeat rhythm guitar and a whistled hook as she returns to dating: “I’m counting on you/to put the pieces of me back together,” she sings.

Another computer confection is “All Night Parking,” a time warp of old and new, which juxtaposes florid, speed-fingered, cascading samples from the jazz pianist Erroll Garner with a trap-like drum-machine beat, while Adele shows off jazzy syncopations as she sings about 21st-century lust: “Every time that you text/I want to get on the next flight home.”

But the album is also, at times, candidly and unsettlingly documentary. Adele sings to her son in “My Little Love,” offering reassurances and apologies: “I’m so sorry if what I’ve done makes you feel sad,” she offers in a low R&B croon. The track interrupts — and nearly derails — its moody, undulating, Marvin Gaye-ish groove with digital voice notes that Adele recorded at tearful low points and in conversations with her son. “Mommy’s been having a lot of big feelings recently,” she tells him. “I feel a little trapped, like, um, I feel a bit confused, and I feel like I don’t really know what I’m doing.”

The discomfort is part of the point. On “30,” Adele complicates the clear pop roles of lover, heroine, victim or fighter. One thing that’s absent from “30” is the kind of righteous revenge song, like “Chasing Pavements” and “Rolling in the Deep,” that the younger Adele would hurl at exes. On “30,” Adele more calmly extricates herself from a romance in “Woman Like Me,” a low-fi bossa nova produced by Inflo (Dean Josiah Cover) from the British collective Sault , wondering how a suitor could be so lazy and complacent when a little more consistency could win her over.

But more often, Adele’s songs present her as her own target and her own unfinished self-improvement project. The album’s core style is secular gospel, with Adele’s voice gathering itself over hymnlike piano chords, seeking faith not in a higher power but in herself. In “Hold On,” another collaboration with Inflo, she sings, “I am my own worst enemy/Right now I truly hate being me” as a faraway choir urges her to hold on, and her voice rises to a kind of prayer: “May time be patient/Let pain be gracious.”

The album’s longest track, “To Be Loved,” is also its most minimal, exposed production: just a live-sounding duet with Adele’s co-writer, Tobias Jesso Jr., on an echoey piano. Slowly, almost hesitantly, and then with growing solidity and vehemence, Adele grapples with what it means to share her life, trying to work out where trust and dependence turn into self-erasure: “To be loved and love at the highest count/Means to lose all the things I can’t live without,” she sings, then vows, “I can’t live a lie.”

Her phrases swell, tremble and spill over into melismas, and her verses crest with two different peaks. “Let it be known that I cried,” she sings, but later she trumpets, so loud it overloads the microphone, “Let it be known that I tried.” It’s awash in regrets, but decisive; it’s high drama and a musical tour de force. And it’s clearly not the end of the story.

Adele is yet to announce any official tour dates for 30 but she has already got some special performances lined up.

Listen to this article

Adele 's fourth album 30 is finally here and there is already huge demand for a tour, but fans may have to wait a while for one.

Given that Adele is one of the most successful recording artists of all time, it's no surprise that people always want to watch her perform live. In fact, Adele is so popular that more than 2.9 million people paid for tickets to see the 32-year-old sing all of her hits on her Adele Live 2016 tour in support of her previous album 25 . However, she hasn't toured live since then.

Naturally, people are begging for Adele to do a 30 tour. With that in mind, here's what she's said about taking it on the road.

Will Adele do a 30 tour?

Adele 30 Tour: Is Adele going on tour?

Speaking on SiriusXM's Hits 1 , Adele explained: "This album? No, probably not. I’d love to. I was actually desperate to tour, which for me is wild because I don’t like touring. I got into the swing of it last time and obviously I’ve gone up to stadiums. Without sounding spoiled, it’s easier because there’s less shows, you reach more people, you get to stay in place."

Adele then added: "It doesn’t sit right with me putting an album out this year and then touring it in 2023." While she didn't specify exactly why she won't tour, it seems likely that it's due to the complications of coronavirus restrictions and Adele wanting to spend time with her son.

While there won't be a 30 tour, Adele is performing two one-off concerts in the UK. She will be performing in Hyde Park on July 1 and July 2 in 2022. Tickets for both dates have sold out though. Some are being resold but at much higher costs than the original tickets.

As it stands, Adele is yet to announce any more one-off live concerts in the UK, US or elsewhere but we shall update you if she does.

"So a few months ago I got a call about a summer run of shows. I’ve been content as anything with my shows in London’s Hyde Park and my residency in Vegas, so I hadn’t had any other plans. However, I was too curious to not follow up and indulge in this idea - a one off, bespoke pop-up stadium designed around whatever show I want to put on? Ohh!? Pretty much slap bang in the middle of Europe? In Munich? That’s a bit random, but still fabulous! Right after the Euros? Come on England! With the Olympics next door? Go on Simone! And some of my favourite artists playing shows too? Why…YES!! I haven’t played in Europe since 2016! I couldn’t think of a more wonderful way to spend my summer and end this beautiful phase of my life and career with shows closer to home during such an exciting summer.

Inside the field: G4D Tour at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

Change Text Size

The G4D Tour will stage its first-ever event in conjunction with a PGA TOUR tournament at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, with 10 of the world’s best golfers with a disability competing in the United States.

Held April 29-30 at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, host venue of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, the new event features eight leading males and the top two females in the gross World Rankings for Golfers with a Disability (WR4GD).

G4D Tour participants at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

Among those aiming to showcase their talent on the global stage are world No. 1 Kipp Popert, with the Englishman seeking to claim his 10th G4D Tour title.

Joining him in the field for the two-day stroke-play event are Americans Chris Biggins and Ryanne Jackson, who is the only first-time participant on the G4D Tour.

Ahead of the G4D Tour at THE CJ Cup Byron Nelson getting underway on Monday, here's a look at the 10 inspiring athletes set to tee it up.

Kipp Popert

  • World ranking (gross): 1
  • G4D Tour titles: 9
  • Sport class: Standing 2
  • Impairment: Weakness and spasticity in legs
  • Nationality: English

Born with cerebral palsy, Popert is a high-profile advocate for the inclusive power of golf. Despite the physical challenges he has faced growing up and overcoming multiple surgeries, he has reached the summit of the game, thriving on the international stage. Having only first heard about the competitive opportunities open to talented golfers with a disability in 2019 through EDGA, formerly known as the European Disabled Golf Association, he has since won around the world, including on no fewer than nine occasions since the launch of the G4D Tour in 2022. An inspiration to many, he competed in The Amateur Championship – organized by The R&A – last summer and challenged himself in events alongside leading professionals. Won the U.S. Adaptive Open – established by the USGA – last summer and claimed further silverware on his most recent G4D Tour start in Kenya earlier this year.

Brendan Lawlor

  • World ranking: 2
  • G4D Tour titles: 1
  • Sport class: Standing 3
  • Impairment: Short stature and limbs
  • Nationality: Irish

One of the most recognized golfers with a disability worldwide, Lawlor was born with a rare condition called Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, characterized by a shorter stature and shorter limbs. Since playing in his first EDGA event in 2017, the Irishman has competed around the world with great distinction. Having turned professional in 2019, he made history by becoming the first player with a disability to compete on the DP World Tour at the ISPS HANDA UK Championship in August 2020. Despite having won numerous EDGA titles over the years, including guiding his nation to win the European Team Championship in 2022, he had to wait until the inaugural G4D Open to claim his first G4D Tour title as he edged out Popert for victory. He has finished second and third in his two starts on the G4D Tour so far this season.

Chris Biggins

  • World ranking: 3
  • G4D Tour titles: 0
  • Nationality: American

The American, who has cerebral palsy, will hope playing on home soil can lead to his maiden title on the G4D Tour after a series of strong results. With top-five finishes in his last three G4D Tour starts, he is among the most consistent performers in the game. He claimed victory at the EDGA Cazoo Classic in 2021, which coincided with an event on the DP World Tour at London Golf Club. Away from competition, he is the director of player development at The Country Club of Birmingham in Alabama. In that role, the 2019 U.S. Disabled Open Golf Association Championship winner coaches youngsters.

Juan Postigo Arce

  • World ranking: 4
  • G4D Tour titles: 2
  • Sport class: Standing 1
  • Impairment: Leg length difference
  • Nationality: Spanish

Born without much of his right leg and no knee, the incredibly talented Spaniard is another of the leading ambassadors in the game. Born in the same part of Northern Spain as Seve Ballesteros, he has received widespread acclaim and continues to play an important role in raising awareness about the great number of players with a disability competing competitively. A proven champion, having been a three-time successive winner of the European Golf Association’s (EGA) European Championship for Golfers with Disability, Postigo Arce has since won twice on the G4D Tour – with both occasions coming last season in Abu Dhabi and Sweden respectively. He competed in the "Champions Challenge" on the eve of The 150th Open Championship at St Andrews in 2022.

Kurtis Barkley

  • World ranking: 6
  • Impairment: Spinal stiffness
  • Nationality: Canadian

Mike Browne

  • World ranking: 7
  • Impairment: Amputation above knee

Like his counterparts, Browne’s story is inspiring. A former soldier, the Englishman had his left leg amputated from the knee down following an infection that arose after a training accident almost a decade ago. Despite only starting to play golf in 2014, he turned professional in 2016. One of the longest drivers in the world, he first tasted success on the G4D Tour during its inaugural season in Ireland in 2022. A second followed last year over Jumeirah Golf Estates’ renowned Earth Course in Dubai, where he was the only player in the field to finish under par in the weather-shortened event.

Tomasso Perrino

  • World ranking: 8
  • Impairment: Weakness and stiffness of the lead leg
  • Nationality: Australian

Perrino competed against major champion and compatriot Francesco Molinari as a boy, but a motor scooter accident aged 18 curtailed his progress. Already a winner on the G4D Tour, having won in Northern Ireland in 2022, he has since become one of the most consistent performers. In 2023, he recorded top-five finishes in five consecutive G4D Tour appearances and became the first Italian to win the EGA’s European Championship in the Netherlands last July. Perrino featured in the All-Star Match ahead of the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club alongside Popert and fellow sportsmen such as Novak Djokovic and Gareth Bale.

Lachlan Wood

  • World ranking: 9

When aged 16, Wood was seriously injured in a car accident, resulting in his left leg being held together by 14 screws and a metal plate, while he has so far faced more than 40 surgeries. The leading player on the established World Ranking for Golfers with Disability from Australia, he is looking to continue his impressive start to the 2024 G4D Tour campaign. He secured his maiden win at the Australian All Abilities Championship @ the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in December, before finishing runner-up to Popert in Kenya in February.

Daphne van Houten

  • Nationality: Dutch

A routine physical screening at just 12 years old found a life-changing issue in van Houten’s back. She became the first woman to break into the top 10 of the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability in mid-2019. She was part of the inaugural field on the G4D Tour at The Belfry in 2022 and made her most recent appearance in Kenya. She won the EGA's Champion Women Golfer with Disability in 2018 and is a key member of the Dutch national setup. Her golfing hero is compatriot Anne van Dam, who plays on the Ladies European Tour and LPGA.

Ryanne Jackson

  • World ranking: 66
  • Impairment: Muscle weakness in arms and legs

Jackson has muscular dystrophy, a condition which causes the muscles in her shoulders and legs to weaken over time. While she first picked up a club at the age of 2, it was when she was 6 that she began the play sport regularly and declared herself a "lefty" despite being right-handed. Coached from a young age by her father, like both her older sisters, her diagnosis only came in her freshman year a college after struggling to understand the cause of physical tiredness she suffered from. Won the U.S. Adaptive Open at Pinehurst last summer and is now set for her debut on the G4D Tour.

The 2024 G4D Tour schedule comprises nine tournaments held in six different countries and includes a major championship with The G4D Open in May, which is run in partnership by The R&A and the DP World Tour.

Less than 15 hours before it was scheduled to begin, Lovers & Friends Festival 2024 has been canceled due to “dangerous weather,” said event organizers in a post to their website.

The one-day festival, which was supposed to begin at noon on Saturday in Las Vegas, was shaping up to be a millennial mixtape dream come true with headlining sets from Usher , Backstreet Boys, Janet Jackson and Alicia Keys. But it came crashing down just moments before doors opened, with plans blowing over in the time running up to commencement.

Popular on Variety

Lovers & Friends started in 2022 after COVID delayed its launch years prior. In its first year, the two-day event got shut down early after attendees heard gunshots and fled for the exits. Last year, it returned without any issues, featuring performances from Mariah Carey, 50 Cent and Missy Elliott.

Several Las Vegas festivals have been called off due to weather in recent years. As noted by the city’s Review-Journal , in October 2022, the first day of the When We Were Young festival was canceled because of high winds, although it picked up the next day. In May 2019, strong winds shut down the main stage during the Electric Daisy Carnival at Las Vegas Motor Speedway; the same thing happened in 2012. Also in 2022, the Day N Vegas festival, which had been moved to September from its usual time earlier in the year due to the pandemic, was canceled due to high temperatures.

The city’s McCarren Airport is no stranger to disappointed fans who’d learned upon arrival that their plans had abruptly changed: In January of 2022, Adele postponed the launch of her Las Vegas residency just hours before it was to begin — and after thousands of fans had traveled to the city. She initially blamed Covid-related production delays , although it later transpired that she’d suddenly decided she was unhappy with the show’s production , which had been in the works for months.

Read the full cancellation statement below:

“Lovers & Friends Festival organizers have been monitoring the weather for several days and proactively preparing for a windy Saturday. However, the National Weather Service has now issued a High Wind Warning, including dangerous 30-35 mph sustained winds with gusts potentially more than 60 mph.  Following advice from the National Weather Service and in consultation with local public officials, we must make the safest decision for our fans, artists, and staff, and cancel tomorrow’s Lovers & Friends Festival.

“This was an incredibly heartbreaking decision to make as we are aware that fans have traveled from all over the world to enjoy this incredible lineup of superstars and have been looking forward to this event for several months. We’ve worked hard to create an amazing event for you, and we are just as disappointed as you are.

“Ticket holders who purchased their tickets directly through Front Gate Tickets will receive a refund within 30 days to the original form of payment.”

The 22nd season of American Idol is steaming toward its May 19th finale, but before this year’s winner is crowned the show has a few more tricks up its sleeve. During Monday night’s (April 29) Judge’s Song Contest episode that pared the pack of hopefuls down to the top 7, the lineup for Sunday’s (May 5) action-packed episode was revealed.

‘American Idol’ Alum Melinda Doolittle, Danny Gokey and Colton Dixon Come Together For Mandisa…

Trending on billboard.

In addition to a moving tribute to late Idol finalist Mandisa, Monday night’s show found singer Kaibrienne getting eliminated after her emotional take on Olivia Rodrigo’s “Traitor.” Elsewhere, bearded country singer Will Moseley punched his ticket to the next round with a run through Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” McKenna Faith Breinholt moved forward with Lissie’s “Everywhere I Go,” Jack Blocker crushed Willie Nelson’s “Always On My Mind” and Abi Carter caused chill bumps with her icy, rocking cover of Evanescence’s “Bring Me To Life.”

In addition, Julia Gagnon gave “Over the Rainbow” a country spin, Triston Harper got his twang on for Morgan Wallen’s “Sand In My Boots” and Emmy Russell brought down the house by covering her Memaw Loretta Lynn’s signature theme song, “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

The episode also featured Blocker and Russell performing judge Richie’s “Hello,” Harper and Moseley drawling Bryan’s hit “What Makes You Country” and the four women (Carter, Kabrienne, Brinholt and Gagnon) covering Perry’s “Wide Awake.”

McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Kris Kim, a 16-year-old amateur playing on a sponsor exemption at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, became the youngest player in nine years to make the cut in a PGA Tour event.

Kim finished his second round Friday with a birdie for a 4-under 67. At 7-under 135, he was among 66 players who made the cut, which was 6 under. Jake Knapp was the leader at 14-under 128 .

Kyle Suppa was 16 when he made the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2015.

At 16 years, seven months old, Kim surpassed Jordan Spieth as the youngest player to make the cut at the Nelson. Spieth was two months shy of his 17th birthday when made his first PGA Tour start at his hometown event in 2010, and finished tied for 16th.

Kim, who is the son of former LPGA Tour player and South Korea native Ji-Hyun Suh, is making his PGA Tour debut. He is the first amateur sponsored by South Korean company CJ Group, which is the title sponsor of the Nelson for the first time.
