I was a bit apprehensive about spending 6 hours on a drive, but it completely flew by. • 121dwayneb 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best safari experience The sunset game drive for us was the best experience, maybe I’m partial because we were lucky to have an unbelievable up close encounter with a herd of elephants, including a playful mischievous baby one that came right up to our vehicle which meant mama and the rest of the herd came up to check on us also. It was a little tense but the guide Jules was very knowledgeable and advised us to just remain calm, which in turn kept the herd calm and they just looked at us and kept on going. We then followed them to the water and got to see them play around and swim for about an hour right in front of us. That was beyond anything I could have expected. Read more Written 22 February 2024

Amazing experience, we had a drive scheduled for 6am they showed up about fifteen minutes early each day, eager to take us on our safari. Jakes, Jules and the whole teams are VERY knowledgeable about the animals, not just the large ones but even little things like the dung beetle, the spiders and the birds. He learned us a lot about wildlife and we saw lions, hippo's, elephants, giraffes, zebra's, nyala's and more. Jakes and his nice daughter drove us around and we had a lot of fun. Jake was super helpful and answered any questions we had, mostly regarding what we should do when we encounter any of the big five, so that we didn’t die or do anything stupid! Alongside this, we were so blessed to witness some rare species within the park including wild dogs and the ground hornbill. Our guide, Patrick, was extremely knowledgeable and made this tour fun and extremely interesting. We saw the Blyde River Canyon, the amazing Bourke luck potholes and Lisbon Falls. If you’re in the area doing safari game drives, we can’t recommend this tour enough - to give you an essence of the magnitude and the beauty of the surrounding landscape, as well as the region’s culture. As a former safari tracker turned driver, Sam provided more than just your standard ride from the Hoedspruit airport to the safari lodge. We learned so much about the wildlife before even getting to our Safari. We shared laughs & stories, overall he’s just a great human. The tour was basically a private 8-hours drive through the highlights of the Panorama Route. Our driver, Percy, was fantastic in sharing the main information on the various spots where we stopped, but more than that we really enjoyed his company and the conversations we had with him in the car and during lunch. We learnt a lot about South Africa and shared knowledge about each other’s cultures, which (for me) really adds up to the whole experience, comparing to doing the route autonomously. We were a group of 6 and did 3 transfers with them, all of which went exceptionally smoothly thanks to Evans our driver. He was always punctual, neatly dressed, friendly and helpful. He settled us in with some welcome cold, bottled water. The van was spotlessly clean and in good condition. His driving was excellent, which I was happy about as I'm a nervous passenger. He also went out of his way when we made a special request. He was careful driving by the wild animals on the road, such as elephant walking right in front of us and also took the time to slow so that we could take a look. Enjoy a lovely boat ride on the Blyde Dam, where you can savour the splendor of the Blyde River Canyon. Your tour guide will take you to the Kadishi Tufa Waterfall and the majestic Three Rondavels. Wildlife is abundant; you'll be able to spot hippo, crocodile, as well as fish eagle. During the cruise, you can learn more about the history of the third biggest canyon in the world. Departure times: 9:00, 11:00 and 15:00; Minimum guests: 6 people; Maximum guests: 50 people; Duration: 1½ hours.

Blyde Canyon Safaris, together with the Moletele community, offer scenic boat trips on the Blyde Dam. This is your opportunity to see the famous Three Rondawels and the Blyde River Canyon from the angle it’s supposed to be seen: while you’re on the water, at the base of the towering mountains that form these breathtaking sights. Tick off those last couple of birds that have been eluding your bird list and enjoy seeing the hippo’s and crocodiles that make this dam their home.

We are passionate about nature and preserving the few untouched pieces that remain in South Africa. We aim to offer everyone the opportunity to experience the beauty that the Lowveld has to offer. We run several activities and excursions and through our sister company, Blyde Adventure Camp, adventure and leadership camps for large groups.

We offer daily trips at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Join one of our trips or book the entire boat for yourself. Use our friendly online booking system on this website, or contact our office to make your booking.

The Blyde Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world and the largest green canyon in the world. It is a place of pure untouched beauty and is best seen and experienced from the water on our comfortable, 12 seater pontoon boat. You will be guided and accompanied by our experienced skipper who with a wealth of knowledge and passion for the canyon.

Blyde Canyon Safaris is a sister company to Blyde Adventure Camp and offers scenic Blyde Dam boat cruises in the Blyderivierspoort Nature Reserve.

The Blyde Dam boat cruises are an hour and a half, all year round, and offer some magnificent views from the water of the Three Rondawels and some resident wildlife.

You will be guided and accompanied by our experienced skipper who is a born and bred “Hoedspruiter” with a wealth of knowledge and passion for the canyon.

Blyde Canyon Safaris offers special rates for school groups as well – please c ontact our office to book your school group boat cruise.

Enjoy the splendour of the third largest Canyon in the world. Unquestionably being the largest ‘green canyon’ due to its lush Subtropical foliage. An interpretation tour by a tour guide will take you to the you to the rare living Kadishi Tufa waterfall and the Three Rondawels. An abundance of wildlife will keep you distracted while learning more about the natural history of the Blyde Canyon.

The Blyde River canyon supports large diversity of life, including numerous fish and antelope species as well as Hippos and Crocodiles, primate species and a diversity of birdlife such as the African Fish Eagle, African Finfoot and much more.

Possibly the best view in the whole of the Blyde River Canyon is of the “Three Rondavels”, huge, round rocks, thought to be reminiscent of the houses or huts of the indigenous people, known as rondavels. The Canyon is famous for the Kadishi Tufa waterfall. At 200m (around 660 feet) in height it is the second tallest Tufa waterfall on earth. In the case of the Kadishi Tufa fall, the formation that has been produced strikingly resembles a face which is crying profusely, and is thus sometimes known as the weeping face of nature.

Tariff structure: 2 – 12 years count as children above 12 years pay adult price Boat can be hired for private functions please contact our office. As we don’t serve drinks or snacks on the boat, you are welcome to bring with. Please take note that no alcohol is allowed on the boat
