When we toured the Conservation Area we strictly needed to maintain silence to avoid interrupting the Tarsier’s sleep.

It’s also mandatory to turn off the camera flash and keep a distance to avoid touching the Tarsiers by accident as they are very delicate creatures.

Bohol Tarsiers: The Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary Travel Guide

Did you know that Asia is home to some of the world’s most exotic animals? If you’re looking for an exciting travel destination, consider the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Bohol .

Here, you’ll have a chance to see the world’s smallest primate up close and personal! Keep reading for more information on this unique sanctuary.

Table of Contents

About the Tarsier

Tarsiers are one of the oldest mammal species on earth. They’ve been around for 45 million years and are thought to be related to monkeys, apes, and humans.

These creatures are tiny! An adult tarsier is only about 4 to 5 inches tall and weighs less than 5 ounces. Despite their small size, they have big round eyes that help them see in the dark.

Tarsiers are nocturnal animals, which means they’re most active at night. During the day, they usually sleep clinging to branches or the trunks of slim trees.

Although they look cute and cuddly, tarsiers are actually quite delicate creatures. They easily get stressed out and can even die from too much noise or human interaction.

Tarsiers are also slow to reproduce. Females usually only give birth to one baby at a time and they only have one mating season per year. This low reproduction rate makes it difficult for tarsiers to bounce back from population decline.

The Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Bohol

The Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary is located in Corella, Bohol. It’s a protected area that covers more than 160 hectares of forest.

This sanctuary was established in order to help conserve the tarsier population. The sanctuary works to educate the public about these unique creatures and their habitat. They also work to rehabilitate sick or injured tarsiers.

The Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary is open to the public and has become a popular eco-tourism destination.

When you visit, you’ll be able to learn all about tarsiers in the exhibition area. There are also conference rooms, a souvenir shop, an audiovisual room, and a library full of tarsier-related information.

The sanctuary offers guided tours led by experienced guides. They’ll take you on a short trek through the forest and help you spot some of these shy creatures.

If you’re lucky, you might even get to see a baby tarsier! Seeing one of these rare animals in person is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Getting There

The Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary is located in Corella, Bohol. The best way to get there is by taking a bus, renting a car or motorbike. Once you’re in Corella, follow the signs to the sanctuary.

See the Tarsiers by tour

You can also see the Tarsiers as a part of the Countryside Tour at an affordable price. These trips are quite popular in Bohol, and they’re an excellent way to learn about the island while staying safe. For more information and availability, click the button below:

Fees and Opening Hours

The entrance fee is P150 per person. Children 7 years old and below are free of charge. Senior citizens and students are given 20% discount. Bring your ID.

The sanctuary is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm daily.

Best Time to Visit

The best months to visit the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary are from January to May when the weather is dry and cool.

What to Expect

When we visited the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that the sanctuary does not keep the tarsiers in cages. In fact, they have taken great care to preserve the natural habitat of these creatures.

The guides are very knowledgeable about the tarsiers and are more than happy to share information about these fascinating animals.

We highly recommend you take a guided tour of the sanctuary so that you can learn all about the tarsiers and see them in their natural habitat. It lasts 15 to 30 minutes but you’ll be able to see these rare creatures up close and personal.

bohol tarsier tour

During the tour, we got to see three tarsiers up close! One turned its head 180 degrees which was creepy but cute! Haha. It was truly an amazing experience. My face hurt from smiling so much.

Ryk and I were giggling like little girls the whole time. We were just so happy to see these rare and beautiful creatures.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience, we highly recommend you visit the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary!

Want to Donate to the Sanctuary?

The Philippine Tarsier Foundation, Inc. (PTFI) is a non-profit organization that runs the sanctuary. They rely on donations to help fund their conservation efforts.

If you would like to make a donation, you can do so through PayPal or bank deposit. See the photo below for the details.

  • Mary S 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great half day tour hitting the historical highlights in metro Manila! My tour guide Fernando was very informative and easy to understand. I really appreciate that even though I was solo (paid the price for 2 people) they still ran the tour even though no one else was added. Be warned, there is quite a bit of walking involved to see intramuros & Fort Santiago, and at the time of day we went it was quite warm. They provide bottled water but would suggest bringing a hat, towel, umbrella for shade in open areas. Driver has nerves of steel to be able to navigate the tight streets with the scooters weaving in & out. Kudos to him! Read more Written April 27, 2024

  • AliObz 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles A nice relaxing day to chill away from the city If you want a nice relaxing day to chill away from the city, then I do recommend booking this activity. I was quite lucky as the place wasn’t so crowded. I recommend seeing the waterfall first. It is quite a small one, but still lovely. It’s about a 20 minutes walk which can be quite calming and there was a gentleman there who helped me through the water and took fantastic pictures of me. There are three pools: the big warm pool, the “soda” pool, and the lovers’ pool which is tucked away in the corner. They provided me with lockers at no extra cost. You make your way back to Manila after lunch so make sure you do as much swimming as possible beforehand. Lunch is buffet food (with soft drinks costing extra) and although I am not a huge fan of buffet food, it was nice nonetheless. Throughout the drive, my tour guide was informing me about the sights on the road i.e. the buildings, the motorway, the mountain etc., which was nice. The only negative feeling I had (at the very end of the tour) was the tour guide telling me I should tip the driver. Although I do not come from a “tipping culture” country, I do not mind doing it when someone has done a great job. That said, I didn’t have much cash on me (as everything was booked and I didn’t want to carry much cash on me) so I just pulled out the first note which was PHP 50. The tour guide complained that it was too small. I still ended up giving it to the driver, but it left a sour taste in my mouth (and it’s not like this is a cheap activity to book). Overall, this is a nice activity to book if you want a break from the city. Read more Written April 20, 2024

The 4 hour tour in a comfortable air-conditioned minibus actually took over 5 hours with nearly 3 hours spent in heavy traffic. One suggestion to improve pick-up arrangements is to specify pick-up times at various hotels some of which are nearly 45 minutes from where the tour actually starts in new Manila. No option to walk freely and meet at meeting point. - American War Cemetery: listened to 30 mins talk in the same spot and then given 15 mins to actually see the place. We literally sprinted around to try to see as much as we could in this ridiculous amount of time. Appreciate the guide knowledge but it gets to a point that we can no longer pay attention as we were eager to visit the place. - time spent in the van: lots of interesting things to see on tbem way to Intramuros but the guide was talking on the very top of his voice like a machine. His phone kept ringing and he kept talking to us … no change to talk to your travel companion. -Intramuros: very interesting place to take pictures but we spent a long time listening to the guide near the shops and then far away from main area. It was obvious people were restless and the main purpose, at least for me, was to actually see this great place. - way back to hotel: we really hoped the guide would then be quiet and let us enjoy the view but we had to endure 45 mins of loud talking non stop. My friend tried to meditate, I pretended I was asleep, other people looked at their phones but the talk would not stop. It honestly felt like torture. - we were asked 30 000 pesos as tip per person - my friend went to her hotel room after as the e experience was a bit traumatising. I had 2 headache tablets. SUGGESTION Get a grab (Uber) and go to these places yourself Get a walking tour where you are listening/learning but are also seeing the place and are free to talk to your travel companion. The schedule throughout the day was flexible. Our tour set off at 10:30 am from the location that we decided on, the guide person was on time to arrive. The first stop was able to see the butterfly. eagle and snakes. We enjoyed the Loboc River Cruise Lunch tour so much. After lunch, we went to the man-made forest and took some nice pictures as we had been here. Those tarsiers are barely able to see them, but they are cute. The next we went to Chap to ride the bike zip line. Even though it’s super scary, we feel super memorable about it. Last, we went to Chocolate Hills and could feel the landscape on top of the mountain.more senior. The guide person was super patient in answering all the questions and even brought us to the local fruit market to buy fruits that we wanted to eat. Those experiences make us feel unforgettable due to the guide’s profession. We’d likely to strongly recommend this tour.

bohol tarsier tour

The Bohol Nature Tour was truly exceptional. The tour guide was so kind, thoughtful and really gave us a window into the life of the people of Bohol. She was great with our two daughters and she kept them interested for the whole day. The lunch with her family was a very special moment. It was a long day but every moment of it was fun and well spent.

Houda Samir

We could not recommend Bohol Nature Tours enough! It was the highlight of our trip to Panglao/Bohol. Aida was a brilliant guide as well as our driver Rey. Being able to experience the market, the tarsier and macaque sanctuary, also climbing up a chocolate hill that we had all to ourselves was just incredible. We truly enjoyed the lunch meal at the local farm. Thanks again Aida and bohol nature tours for an unforgettable trip 🙂

We did a tour with them in Bohol. Tour is different from what other companies offers. You really feel the nature and the way of living of Filipines. Food was amazing, we saw all the important stops of Bohol (chocolate hills, man made forest, we fed the monkeys, trasiers, etc). Tour guide, Ninfa, and our driver, Lolo, were amazing with us, always taking care of making our tour unforgettable. Really recommend this tour if yu want something different
