My nationality is Indian, an Indian passport holder and I have a valid Schengen Visa until April 2023. I am currently working in Łodz, Poland.

1. Can I get e-Visa from Poland as an Indian passport holder?

2. If yes, How to get e-visa and are there mobile apps for it?

I understand what your main issues are... In reality, Indian citizens are eligible for e-visa, but the main problem here is in the fact that a supplement called "guarantee of an authorized tourist agent" is required. In reality this complicates things a lot. Quite complicated and problematic frankly speaking... Anyway, it is also true that Egyptians are allowing visa on arrival for those who hold a valid Schengen, UK and US, Japan, Canada and similar visas in their passports.

To conclude... Now, it is entirely up to you to decide what will you do. You have a right to obtain visa on arrival as far as Egyptians are concerned, but you also face some degree of risk not to be allowed to board the plane if a relevant official is unaware of this possibility.

I don't remember checks whether you have to correct travel documents (incl. visa) by authorities or immigration officials at european departure airports to Egypt. It is the checkin agent that is deciding whether you are good to go (= whether you have the correct travel documents). If the airline brings you into a country without having ensured that, it is the airline's duty to bring you back home with the next available flight .

Almost all travelers require a visa to enter Egypt, but fortunately, the process is pretty simple, and a little advance planning goes a long way.

This guide will walk you through the entry requirements for visiting the land of pyramids on a tourist visa.

Who needs a visa to visit Egypt?

Most nationalities need a visa to enter Egypt, but citizens of many countries can apply for an e-Visa in advance or obtain a visa on arrival at Egypt’s international airports. Both cost US$25.

Getting an e-Visa is generally a smoother process than getting a visa at the airport. Apply for a tourist visa online in advance on  the Egyptian Government's official e-Visa website . All you have to do is fill out the online application form and pay.

If you decide to get a visa at the airport when you land in Egypt, be prepared to wait in line – bring your own pen to fill out the paperwork in line or on the plane – and pay in cash (US dollars, euros or British pounds only, not Egyptian pounds).

Citizens of Bahrain, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Macau, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates can enter Egypt visa-free for up to 90 days. Citizens of Malaysia can enter for up to 14 days.

If you're not eligible to get a visa on arrival or an e-Visa, head to the Egyptian embassy or consulate in your home country and apply in person. The visa process can take several weeks.

How to get an e-Visa for Egypt

To save time, apply for an e-Visa before your trip to Egypt. Citizens of these countries are eligible for Egypt’s e-Visa and can apply on the Egyptian government's official website . Your passport must be valid for at least six months before the date you intend to arrive. 

The process is simple: sign up for an account, fill the form and pay the US$25 using a credit or debit card. You’ll receive email notifications as the application is processed.  

If you’re issued a visa, you’ll be emailed a link to your e-Visa to download and print the document. When you land in Egypt, present the e-Visa to the Egyptian border patrol with your passport. Have a copy of your accommodation details or tour booking in case you’re asked to show them at the airport.

Egypt’s e-Visa can be single or multiple entry. The single-entry visa allows visitors one entry into the country for stays of up to 30 days. The multiple-entry visa allows travelers to come into  Egypt an unlimited number of times over a period of 180 days and for up to 30 days at a time. Apply for a multi-entry visa at least seven days before your trip.

Visa on arrival in Egypt

If you don’t have time to apply for an e-Visa, you can still get a visa on arrival at the airport if you’re eligible. Visas are available for purchase (US$25) at a kiosk in the arrivals hall before the immigration counters. 

Have the correct amount in cash in a major foreign currency (US dollars, euros or British pounds) to avoid delays.

The visa comes in the form of a stamp that you’ll need to put into your passport to present at the immigration counters and passport control. 

If you opt for a visa on arrival, you’ll need a passport that’s valid for at least six months from your arrival date, a travel itinerary and documentation to show you've booked accommodations or tours.

Visa on arrival is available at all of Egypt’s international airports. The downsides are that you can be issued a single entry visa only, and the lines at the airport can be long.

You don't need a visa to stay in Sinai on short trips

If you are visiting the resort towns on the Gulf of Aqaba coast and won’t be going to mainland Egypt, you can stay in Sinai for 14 days without buying an Egyptian visa. The Sinai-only visa allows travellers to visit Sharm El Sheikh , Dahab , Nuweiba , Taba and St Catherine, but you cannot go to Ras Muhammad National Park.

The Sinai-only visa is available at the airport in Sharm El Sheikh and the Egypt–Israel border crossing at Taba. If you arrive at Taba and plan to visit mainland Egypt, you must purchase a visa online in advance or at an Egyptian embassy abroad.

Egypt allows 74 countries to obtain tourist e-visas in 24 hours

Egypt will allow a total of 74 countries to obtain tourist visas electronically upon arrival at any of Egypt’s ports within 24 hours of registering for them, an official statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities read on Tuesday.

The statement affirmed that Egypt’s e-Visa Portal can issue tourist visas to visitors holding valid passports from Schengen countries, the US, the UK, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada — to name a few — upon arriving to Egypt.

An Egyptian tourist e-visa costs $25 for a single-entry visa or $60 for multiple entries, Ghada Shalaby, the vice minister for tourism and antiquities, said in July.

The update comes as part of the state’s efforts to encourage the flow of tourists of different nationalities, especially amid the pandemic.

Egypt resumed international flights to and from all its airports in July 2020 after a four-month suspension due to the coronavirus.

The country also started receiving flights from Russia to Egypt’s Red Sea resort cities after a six-year hiatus.

Russian travellers have always been a major contributor to the country's tourism industry, making them a key source of hard currency in Egypt.

Foreign tourists are only allowed — as tour groups — into the coastal governorates of the Red Sea, Marsa Matrouh, and South Sinai, given that they are the least affected by the pandemic.

Egypt requires travellers arriving to the country to present a negative PCR test certificate performed 72 hours before taking off from their destination or a recognised certificate proving they were fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival. Both certificates should contain a stamp from the country of origin and a QR Code.

Do you need a visa for Egypt? 

The short answer is yes; foreign nationals from most countries - bar 10 - must obtain a visa before travelling to Egypt. For most nationalities, organising a visa for Egypt  can be done on arrival at Cairo International Airport or online via the Egyptian government's official e-visa portal. This includes citizens of Australia , New Zealand , the EU and the USA *. If you're not eligible to apply for a visa online, you'll need to do so through your nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate. 

A single entry visa is valid for three months from the date of issue and entitles the bearer to one month of travel in Egypt. If you're from a country that doesn't require a visa before travel, such as Bahrain, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon, you can stay in Egypt for up to 3 months. 

*As of September 3rd, Canadians can no longer apply for a visa on arrival and will have to obtain an e-visa before travelling.

• Purchase the visa at an approved bank kiosk within the arrivals hall before proceeding to the immigration counters.
• You will be given a stamp to put on your passport.
• Proceed to the immigration counters and a passport control official. Here, you must present your stamped passport with at least six months validity after arrival, a travel itinerary and documentation outlining accommodation and tour bookings.

Visas on arrival can be purchased in US dollars, British pounds or euros, and only in cash. Currently, the cost for a single entry tourist visa is equivalent to AUD$38 (USD$25).

• Go to  visa2egypt.gov.eg . This is Egypt's only official government e-visa portal; however, other websites falsely claim to provide this service, sometimes at double the price. 
• Follow the prompts to sign up, sign in, apply, and pay online. Please note that Egypt e-visas can only be paid for in US dollars or euros. Egyptian pounds are not accepted as a form of payment for e-visas.
• After your visa application has been processed, you will receive an email updating you on the status of your application.
• If successful, you will be emailed a link to download your e-visa to present on arrival in Egypt. Passport control officers at Egyptian ports of entry will verify your e-visa on their system.

If you are eligible for an Egypt e-visa, you must create an application at least seven days before arrival. Currently, the cost for a single-entry tourist e-visa is equivalent to AUD$38 (USD $25). On arrival in Egypt, you must present a printout of your e-visa, along with a passport of at least six months validity after your arrival date, a travel itinerary, and documentation outlining accommodation and tour bookings.

Entry requirements

This advice reflects the UK government’s understanding of current rules for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK, for the most common types of travel.

The authorities in Egypt set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the Consulate General for Egypt in the UK .

Passport validity requirements

Your passport must be valid for 6 months from the date you arrive. Check with your travel provider to make sure your passport and other travel documents meet their requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.

Visa requirements

British passport holders travelling to Egypt normally need a visa. Visa processing fees are non-refundable.

We advise you to get a visa before you travel, particularly if travelling for work or business. You can apply for a visa from the official Visa2Egypt portal or at your nearest Egyptian Consulate . Tourist visas granted using the e-visa system are valid for a maximum of 3 months.

The online e-visa portal (Visa2Egypt) does not currently accept applications from variant British passport holders (those from British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies).

All British passport holders can get a visa in advance by submitting an application in person or by post to the Egyptian Consulate in London . The specific requirements for the visa are listed on the website.

Alternatively, if you wish to get a visa on arrival, you can do so at approved bank kiosks within airport arrival halls, before reaching immigration counters. The visa fee is 25 US dollars, payable in dollars as the preferred currency, although you may also be able to pay in pounds sterling or euros. Visas granted on arrival are valid for a maximum of 30 days. There’s no need to buy a visa from an agent. In many cases agents will charge more than US$25 for a visa. If you’re harassed by an agent, report the incident to the tourist police in the airport terminal.

If you’re travelling to Sharm el Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts for up to 15 days, you will receive a free entry permission stamp on arrival. If you intend to travel out of these areas or stay longer than 15 days, you must get a visa.

If you have travelled to one of the South Sinai Red Sea resorts, entered without a visa and your plans have changed, you can normally purchase a visa at Sharm el Sheikh airport to allow you to travel elsewhere.

Applications for visa extensions should be made at Egyptian Passport and Immigration Offices. You may have difficulties leaving Egypt with an out of date visa. You will normally have to pay a fine if your visa is out of date by more than 14 days.

Visas at the Egypt-Sudan Border Crossing

If you’re crossing the border from Sudan, the Egyptian authorities have advised it is still possible to get a visa on arrival for the regular cost of 25 US dollars.

HIV test for work permits

You will need to show your result from a HIV test to apply for a work permit.

Vaccination requirements

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the vaccinations and certificates you need on TravelHealthPro’s Egypt guide . Depending on the country you’re arriving from, this may include a yellow fever vaccination certificate.

Customs rules

There are strict rules about goods that can be brought into and taken out of Egypt . You must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty.

You’re allowed to bring in or take out up to 5,000 Egyptian pounds. There is no limit to the amount of hard currency that you can bring in, but you must declare it when you arrive if it’s worth more than 10,000 US dollars.

You must also declare certain valuables, including electrical equipment or video cameras, when you arrive. These will be noted in your passport. You may be asked to show these items again when you leave the country. If you do not have them on you, you may have to pay a high rate of customs duty.

Officials are likely to confiscate satellite phones or radio communications equipment unless you have prior clearance from the Ministry of Telecommunications.

Travellers can queue and pay for a visa on arrival in Egypt. Visa on arrival facilities have been available at Egyptian ports of entry for many years.

The alternative to the visa on arrival is the Egypt e-Visa . The modern online system was introduced in 2017 to streamline the visa application process.

If you’re unsure whether to apply for an Egyptian visa online or on arrival, you can use the information on this page to make an informed decision.

Can I get a visa on arrival in Egypt?

Eligible travellers can obtain an Egyptian tourist visa on arrival at immigration kiosks at any of the airport terminals .

If you have not applied for a visa in advance need to:

• Wait in line at the visa on arrival window
• Fill out the visa application form and provide documents
• Pay the visa on arrival fee in cash
• Attach the Egypt visa sticker to the passport

The visa on arrival must be paid for in one of the 3 accepted currencies (USD, EUR, or GBP) . Card payment is not accepted. You should aim to have the exact amount ready to pay for the Egypt visa .

If you wish to pay for your visa by card, you need to apply online. All major credit and debit cards are accepted.

You can stay in the country for up to 30 days with an Egyptian visa on arrival .

Which countries can get a visa on arrival in Egypt?

Nationals of several countries are eligible to request a visa on arrival in Egypt.

Citizens of some countries are only eligible if they already have a valid visa issued by one of the following countries:

• New Zealand
• Any Schengen Area country

If you can apply for the Egyptian e-Visa, then you are also eligible for a visa on arrival. However, you can save time on arrival at the airport by arranging the visa in advance.

Where can you get an Egypt visa on arrival?

You can apply for an Egyptian visa on arrival at border control when arriving in Egypt .

It is currently not advised that travelers cross land borders or checkpoints, as there is not always up-to-date information concerning which checkpoints and border crossings are open or issue a visa on arrival.

International checkpoints where you can get a visa on arrival for Egypt:

• Borg El Arab International Airport, Alexandria

Israeli citizens can now obtain a visa on arrival for South Sinai if they arrange their trip through approved travel agencies.

While visas on arrival are generally only issued at the above airports, the e-Visa for Egypt is accepted at air, land, and sea borders . Passengers with an e-Visa can head straight to border control at the airport.

Can I get a visa on arrival at any Egyptian border?

The visa on arrival is only available at the international airports in Egypt listed above. If you plan to enter Egypt by land, you will need to obtain a visa before traveling .

It's important to check the specific visa requirements for your country of origin and make sure you have all the necessary documents before traveling to Egypt by land. Note that not all border crossings allow entry for foreign tourists , so it's important to check the regulations and restrictions at land borders before traveling.

How much does a visa on arrival in Egypt cost?

You have to pay the visa on arrival fee in cash—British pounds, US dollars, and Euros are accepted. To avoid delays, you should have the exact amount on arrival at the border .

Following the visa requirements and providing the right information will help you to obtain your visa on arrival. However, presenting a valid passport and paying the visa fee is no guarantee of entry .

Difference between Egypt e-Visa and Visa On Arrival

The main difference between the tourist visa on arrival and the electronic visa is that e-Visa applicants obtain the permit online , in advance. If you opt for the visa on arrival, you have to wait until you arrive in Egypt to apply.

For greater peace of mind, many tourists prefer to arrange their visa before travelling. You are not guaranteed a visa on arrival at the border.

The e-Visa is also a convenient choice given that you can complete and submit the application from home , rather than at the airport.

Both the e-Visa and the visa on arrival allow you to stay in Egypt for up to 30 days . Single and multiple-entry online visas are available.

One other difference is that, as mentioned above, you must pay the visa on arrival fee in cash. Electronic visa applicants pay securely online by card.

Egypt e-Visa, the convenient tourism alternative to the visa on arrival

There a few basic visa requirements that you must meet to obtain an Egypt e-Visa . Firstly, you must be from one of the eligible countries, such as United Kingdom , Australia , Canada , the United States , and many European nations.

Secondly, it is necessary to have the following :

• A passport with 6 months remaining from the date of entry
• A credit or debit card to pay the e-Visa fee
• An up-to-date email address to receive the electronic visa

The application form involves entering some basic personal information (such as your name, address, date of birth, and passport details), and answering some simple security-related questions. The process is safe and information is encrypted and secure.

It only takes a few minutes to complete the application form. After the application has been processed,the visa is sent to you by email. You should print a copy of the visa to present at Egyptian border control .

If you’re like me who holds a third world passport , you’re surely familiar with the fact that we can’t simply enter most countries with just our passports alone; there’s often a need for prior visa applications among many other arduous immigration processes that can cost a lot of money, time, and effort. Schengen Area

As I’ve previously mentioned, the Schengen Area is a group of 26 countries and it comprises most of Europe . As part of a unified agreement, all of them have agreed to abolish passports and internal border controls.

This means that all the Schengen countries act as if they are only ‘one country’ — so every citizen of each member state is free to go anywhere they want. Meanwhile, outsiders who want to enter the Schengen Area would experience border control once at the first country that they enter; but after that, entering other member countries would no longer require further immigration control.

These 27 countries are namely:

• Croatia (HR)
• Czech Republic (CZE)
• Denmark [1] (DK)
• Estonia (EST)
• Finland (FIN)
• France [2] (F)
• Germany (D)
• Greece (GR)
• Hungary (H)
• Iceland (IS)

From the above list, 4 of these are non-EU (or EFTA member states that may have border control) — Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland — whereas 22 are part of the EU.

However, to date, there are a total of 28 members of the EU; so what happened to the other 4? Well, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, and Romania — are just NOT part of the Schengen Area.

TRIVIA: There are 3 additional European microstates — Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican — that can be considered as de facto within the Schengen Countries given how they don’t have border controls with the countries that surround them. However, it’s important to note that they are not official Schengen member states since they have not signed documents for it. (But of course, it’s fine to visit with a Schengen visa).

Schengen Visa

The Schengen visa serves as the basic visa that you will need to be able to stay in all of the 26 countries.

Now, depending on the non-Schengen country stated in this list, you can use ANY of the following Schengen visa types in order to gain visa-free entry:

• Type A: for airport transits
• Single Entry (1) : you can only enter the Schengen area once
• Double Entry (2): you can only enter the Schengen area twice during the visa’s validity
• Multiple Entry: you can enter the Schengen area as many times as you want as long as you stay for only 90 days in ANY 180-day period
• Type D: long-term or long-stay visas (valid for more than 3 months, usually for study or work)
• Residence permit : from any Schengen country

*It helps to note that unless otherwise stated, most of the below 53 non-Schengen countries you can visit with a Schengen visa will ONLY grant visa-free entry for their territory if you have a Type C multiple entry Schengen visa. Some of them would even require that the Schengen visa has been used at least once prior to entry.

So please read thoroughly and do due diligence to make sure that you have the right document on hand!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

If you have gone through a Schengen visa application, you would know how rigorous the process is; not to mention the number of documents that are required to prove your solvency and strong ties to your home country. Given this fact, a lot of countries trust this screening process and have come to acknowledge it as their own. Otherwise, other countries such as those found in Europe are in line to join Schengen so they are already accepting Schengen visas for entry into their borders.

If it only states a few letters like “CH”, it means that your Schengen visa only allows you to enter Switzerland (as based on the abbreviations above stated per Schengen member state). To access all of these 26 countries, your Schengen visa must state “Schengen States” or its equivalent phrase (e.g. ‘Etats Schengen, etc.’) .

How to apply for a Schengen visa from Egypt

Egyptians who want to visit the Schengen area will need to apply for a Schengen visa from Egypt beforehand. A Schengen visa is therefore required for Egyptians looking to enter most major European countries, including Germany, Italy, and France. If you are an Egyptian citizen or resident who is thinking about travelling to one of these countries – or to any of the 26 states that make up the Schengen area – read on to learn about the Schengen visa application process! 

Which Schengen country should I apply to?

• In almost all cases, Schengen visas are valid for entry to all 26 countries in the Schengen area . This means, for example, that if you apply for a Schengen visa to France your visa will also allow you access to Germany, should you decide to go there as well. 
• However, because Schengen applications are lodged with a single Schengen country, you will need to decide which country you want to apply through.

• As a rule, you should apply through the country you plan on spending the most time in on your trip. If you only plan on going to one country in the Schengen area, you will simply apply through that country. 
• If you are going to more than one country, you should apply to the country you plan to be in the longest. For example, if you are travelling to the Schengen area mainly to attend a sporting event in Germany but you will also spend several days in France, you should apply for a German Schengen visa . 
• This same rule applies to applicants who are first entering the Schengen area from a different country from the one they applied for. For example, if your flight into the Schengen area is from Cairo to Paris, you should still apply for a German Schengen visa even if France is your first entry in the Schengen area.   

Where do I apply for a Schengen visa?

• Schengen visa Egypt applicants should apply via the embassy or consulate of the country they are applying to. 
• Most European countries have embassies and consulates located in either Cairo or Alexandria. 
• Additionally, some European countries have outsourced the Schengen visa application process to visa service providers, which also have offices in Cairo and Alexandria. Contact the embassy/consulate of the country you are trying to apply through for specific information on where to apply. 

When do I apply for My Visa? 

• Apply for your Schengen visa from Egypt no earlier than 6 months before you travel and no later than 2 weeks before your journey. 

How long is my Schengen visa valid for?

• Schengen visas are valid for 90 days within a 180-day period. This means that you must leave the Schengen area after 90 days.           
• In addition to the number of days you are allowed in the Schengen area, your visa will be  valid for use (i.e. valid to enter the Schengen area with) for over 90 days-often for around 180 days. For example, if your visa is valid for 180 days, this means you have 180 days to use it before it expires. Once you enter the Schengen area with it, you must leave after you have spent 90 days there.

What type of Schengen visa do I need?

• The type of visa you apply for depends on your purpose for travel, and the purpose you select will determine the materials you will submit as part of your application process. 
•  There are multiple different types of Schengen visas which you can choose between based on your reason for travel. ( Click here for a full list of Schengen visa types ).
• For example, if you are travelling to the Schengen area in order to visit family and friends, you should apply for a “Visiting Family or Friends Schengen Visa.” 

How many entries do I need?

• Schengen visas from are available for single, double, or multiple entries to the Schengen area.

The schengen visa – what is it.

Anyone planning a visit to Europe from Egypt should be aware of the Schengen Visa. This is an important consideration for Egyptian nationals as the visa has great benefits. The visa is currently valid in a total of 26 member countries across the European continent (known collectively as the Schengen Area ). This article provides comprehensive information on the Schengen Visa for Egyptian Citizens.

The Schengen Visa is a travel document that allows the holder to travel freely within the Schengen Area, without the need for additional paperwork. For example, if you begin your travel in France and wish to move on to Germany or Spain (or any other of the 26 member states) you can do so without the need to obtain additional visas. There are no internal borders to negotiate across the Schengen Area, making it simple move from one country to another.

Schengen Visa types for Egyptian Citizens

Before applying, you need to determine the type of visa you require. The following criteria will help you decide which visa is suitable for you:

A  Uniform Schengen Visa  permits the holder to stay in, or travel within, any country in the Schengen Area, for up to a maximum of 90 days at a time within a six-month period from the date of issue. These can be issued as:

• a single entry visa, meaning the holder can only enter/exit the Schengen Area once • a double entry visa allowing a second entry within the time period • a multiple entry visa which can be used multiple times (within the permitted time limits of the visa)

A  Limited Territorial Validity Visa  is available for travel only in the particular Schengen country that originally issued the visa. Holders of this type of visa are not permitted to enter any other Schengen member state. These visas are most often used in emergency/humanitarian situations where travel documents are not normally available.

Thirdly, there is a  National Visa . This particular visa is suitable for those who wish to study or work in any one of the Schengen countries and again is available as either a single or multiple entry.

Applying for a visa

Egyptian citizens wishing to apply for a visa must begin the process by arranging an appointment at an embassy. The embassy you choose for this should be either the one relating to the country you will begin your trip (first point of entry within the Schengen Area) or to the country in which you be spending the majority of your time. You can schedule your appointment online on the VFS website or, if you prefer, in person at a local VFS centre.

You should be aware that it may take up to 2 weeks to complete the process and you will probably wait up to another 10 days for the embassy to contact you; we would therefore recommend that you apply for your visa at least one full month prior to the date you wish to travel.

The following fees currently apply: Adult visa: 60 EUROS Long stay visa (>90 days): 99 EUROS Child visa (6-12 years): 35 EUROS

There will be no fee payable under certain conditions, such as for: children under the age of 6; diplomatic passport holders, students and accompanying teachers; researchers from third world countries and participants aged 25 and under at educational non-profit conferences or other events.

You will need to obtain an application form which can be downloaded from the embassy website or you may collect a hard copy from the embassy office. Along with the completed form, you will also be required to produce the following documentary evidence:

• two passport sized photographs adhering to the official standard (full-frontal head image between 32-36mm in height with a plain background; no red-eye, reflections or shadows) • a valid passport with at least two available blank pages • a sponsorship letter explaining the reason/objective of the visit and stating the duration • evidence of travel insurance purchased showing a minimum coverage of 30,000 EUROS • copies of all relevant travel tickets and a full itinerary for the trip, including accommodation bookings and any tourist packages • proof of applicant’s status, such as birth/marriage certificates and any national identity documents or cards • employment details, such as contracts, proof of income for the past six months, leave entitlement consent from your employer and any other documentation as requested • business credentials and licenses for self-employed persons along with IT returns and proof of financial means • for retirees, pension payment documents/evidence for past six months • for students, proof of enrolment and verification from school or college

The information and documentation provided by you will be scrutinised carefully by the embassy for authenticity. Once this process has been completed, you will be invited to attend an interview with an embassy official.

The interview

This is a very important part of the visa application process and it’s useful to know what to expect before you attend. The interviewer will ask you a series of questions to ascertain the reason for your travel. You will be asked to confirm all dates and your intended itinerary. Them, you will also be expected to confirm your financial status and may be asked to provide further evidence or documentation in support of this. Lastly, you will need to be able to prove that all necessary arrangements are in place and that you understand your obligations regarding the laws of the country/countries you are intending to visit, and confirm that you will return to Egypt at the end of the visit as planned.

Biometric testing will take place at the end of the interview and the results of this will be electronically associated with your identity documentation.

The outcome

You can expect to hear from the embassy within 10-15 days. If accepted, your visa will be posted out to you in due course. If, however, your application is not successful you will receive a letter stating the reasons why. Possible reasons for rejection could be:

• providing insufficient or incorrect personal information • the necessary travel documentation and/or a fully completed itinerary was not provided • no sponsorship letter was submitted with the application (this is essential where the travel is being sponsored) • the discovery of criminal convictions or any previous history of criminal activity • insufficient financial means or proof of income for travel • passport expiry date – the Egyptian government requires that passports need a minimum of three year’s validity • any evidence of forged documentation or incorrect information supplied • insufficient travel insurance coverage (less than 30,000 EUROS) or insurance that does not meet the required terms and conditions for the country/countries being visited • a lack of evidence relating to booked accommodation and any travel/tourist tickets (if a sponsor is organising this on applicant’s behalf, they must send the necessary documents to the embassy) • possible damage or any evidence of tampering with the applicant’s passport • any other form of non-compliance with the procedural requirements of obtaining a visa

There are steps you can take to ensure that your application is successful. First, you should take care to read all the guidance and application forms thoroughly before you begin your application. You should also gather together all the necessary personal information and documentation you will need during the process. The important things to remember are:

• to check that your current passport has at least three year’s validity; if it doesn’t, you must renew it immediately – also ensure there is no damage to the passport • ensure that you explain fully your reasons for travel to the Schengen Area • make sure that all of your personal details are correct and that supporting documents are available and in the correct format • include all relevant educational/professional qualifications and evidence • organise and purchase the required amount of travel insurance • obtain sponsorship letters (where required) and collate all travel/accommodation documentation • do not, under any circumstances, provide incorrect or misleading information or attempt to forge signatures • check and double check that you have followed the correct procedures all the way through the process
