New Fall Shows Added in the US, Canada and Mexico

Depeche mode’s first tour in over five years kicks off march 23, 2023 in sacramento, ca.

Following the rapturous reception to their new single “Ghosts Again,”  Depeche Mode  have added a new Fall leg of North American tour dates to the Memento Mori Tour, which will support Memento Mori, their forthcoming studio album due out March 24. With the addition of these 29 new shows, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020 inductees will now set out on a colossal 75-date tour — their 19th tour and their first in over five years.

The Live Nation-presented tour begins March 23 with a limited North American run featuring stops at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Chicago’s United Center, and Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. The band will then embark on their European stadium tour on May 16, with noted stops including the Stade de France in Paris, Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, Milan’s San Siro Stadium, and London’s Twickenham Stadium.

Following the end of the European summer run, the newly added tour dates bring the band back to North America in the Fall, with the tour stopping in Mexico City at Foro Sol before returning to the US and Canada. Newly announced tour stops include Austin’s Moody Center, Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, additional New York City shows at Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center, Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena and more, and concluding with a multi-night run in Los Angeles at the Kia Forum and Crypto.com Arena.

Pre-sales will kick off with a Fan Pre-sale on Tuesday, February 21, with the general on sale beginning Friday, February 24 at 10am local time. For further information on the tour routing and ticket on-sale dates, please visit  depechemode.com . The full listing of dates, cities and venues is also below. On the Memento Mori Tour, the band will once again be partnering with luxury watchmaker Hublot to support charity endeavors tied to the tour.

Reception to the Memento Mori tour has been overwhelming with shows quickly selling out across Europe and North America, and over 1.5 million tickets already sold for the initial 46 shows. The tour is on track to be one of Depeche Mode’s largest to date and is also well on its way to being one of the largest worldwide tours of 2023. The tour will feature Depeche Mode favorites and rarities, alongside new songs from Memento Mori, including the new single ”Ghosts Again,” which has been heralded as “a melancholic and joyful ode” (Vulture), “hypnotic” (Rolling Stone), and “a gorgeous, haunting song” (Revolver). The beautifully stark and cinematic Anton Corbijn-directed video for “Ghosts Again” released on February 9th can be viewed at  https://depechemode.lnk.to/GhostsAgain .

Having sold more than 100 million records and played to more than 35 million fans worldwide, Depeche Mode remains an ever-evolving and singularly influential musical force. An indelible inspiration to fans, critics and artists alike, Depeche Mode continues to forge ahead, with the Memento Mori album and tour representing the opening of the newest chapter of a peerless and ongoing legacy.

Depeche Mode add 29 new North American tour dates

The fall leg of Depeche Mode's tour supporting upcoming album Memento Mori will hit The US, Canada and Mexico

Depeche Mode, 2022

Depeche Mode have added 29 dates to their tour in support of upcoming  15th studio album Memento Mori.

The new run of North American shows will kick off at Foro Sol in Mexico City on September 21, and climax at the Crypt.com Arena in Los Angeles ten days before Christmas. The dates are in addition to Depeche Mode's previously announced tour of US Arenas, which begins next month, and subsequent run of European outdoor shows. Tickets for the new dates go on sale on February 24 at 10am local.

Momento Mori is the band's first album since 2017's Spirit . It was produced by James Ford, with additional production work by Marta Salogni, and is the first new music released by the Essex band since the death, last May, of founding member  Andy 'Fletch' Fletcher .

"After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted," says Martin Gore, "and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.” “Fletch would have loved this album," adds Dave Gahan. "We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows."

Last week Depeche Mode shared the first single to be taken from the album, Ghosts Again .

Depeche Mode Plays First US Concert in 5 Years: Video, Set List

Depeche Mode kicked off their world tour on Thursday night at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, delivering their first U.S. concert in nearly five years.

Excitement for the show was palpable inside arena, even before Depeche Mode took the stage. The performance came just a day before the release of the band's new album, Memento Mori , the 15th studio LP of their impressive career. Several tracks from the album were featured in the night’s set list, including opening song "My Cosmos Is Mine."

Early set highlights included a pair of tracks from the '90s, "Walking in My Shoes" (from 1993's Songs of Faith and Devotion ) and "It's No Good" (from 1997's Ultra ). The band was in fine form on the night, with frontman Dave Gahan displaying primal enthusiasm on top of his distinctive baritone voice. The singer spent much of the night slinking across the stage, twisting, dancing and writhing as he belted out tunes.

Watch Depeche Mode Perform 'Walking in My Shoes'

The performance also notably marked Depeche Mode’s first U.S. concert without founding member Andy Fletcher. The keyboardist died suddenly on May 26 of what was later revealed to be “an aortic dissection.” Though he’s no longer alive, the rocker’s presence was certainly felt during Depeche Mode’s show.

As the band played "World in My Eyes" a little more than midway through their set, a giant black and white picture of Fletcher was shown on the screens behind the band. The song, from 1990's Violator , was one of the keyboardist's favorite tracks, and Gahan dedicated its performance to Fletcher.

Depeche Mode closed their initial set with a triumphant performance of "Enjoy the Silence," before returning for a four song encore. Gahan and guitarist/backing singer Martin Gore dueted on an emotional rendition of "Waiting for Tonight," before closing the evening with three of the band's biggest hits: "Just Can't Get Enough," "Never Let Me Down Again" and "Personal Jesus."

Videos, pictures and the full set list from the band’s Sacramento show can be found below.

This leg of Depeche Mode’s tour will continue through an April 14 performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden. From there the band heads overseas for a run of European dates, lasting through the summer. The group returns Stateside for a fall trek in September.

Depeche Mode Add 29 New North American Dates to 2023 World Tour

UPDATE (Feb. 16, 2023): Depeche Mode have announced an additional 29 North American tour dates, all of which can be viewed further down the page. The group also released the new single "Ghosts Again" last week and you can listen to that here .

For those wondering, Depeche Mode will continue after the death of longtime keyboardist Andy Fletcher , who died on May 26 of this year. During a press event to announce their upcoming plans, the duo of Dave Gahan and Martin Gore revealed that a new album is en route and that the band will return to the road in 2023.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band have titled their 15th studio album, Memento Mori , with the album expected to arrive next spring, though a firm release date was not revealed as of yet. However, the album's release is expected to coincide with the band's forthcoming return to the road for their first shows in five years.

The two musicians had teased the possibility of their future, sharing a photo of themselves in the studio following Fletcher's death earlier this year. But with the album announce and tour news, it's official that they will push forward.

Martin Gore commented, “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.”

Dave Gahan added, “Fletch would have loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year.”

Depeche Mode will start their touring in the U.S. with a limited series of North American dates, kicking things off on March 23. From there, the group will head back to Europe for a summer stadium tour. All dates, cities and venues can be seen below, and ticketing info can be found via their website .

One of the most influential and highest-earning electronic acts in music history, Depeche Mode have enjoyed success for over 3 decades around the world.

Formed in the late 70’s in Essex, UK, the band transitioned from the early, ‘The Cure’ influenced work into synthesizer territory, inspired by the pioneering work of acts like ‘Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark’. The band settled on a name borrowed from a French fashion magazine and played their first gig in 1980 at their school.

The band began shopping their demo in the hope of securing a record deal, and after a verbal agreement with founder Daniel Miller, began an important partnership with fledgling label ‘Mute Records’. By their third single they had already appeared on Top of The Pops and landed a top 10 hit on the charts, all in the build up to their debut album ‘Speak & Spell’ which was released in 1981.

When founding member Vince Clark left later that year (going on to form Erasure amongst other things) the band held auditions and hired Alan Wilder who would go on to play a pivotal role as the band’s ‘Musical Director’ until his departure in the 90s.

By 1984 the band’s profile was building globally, first topping the charts in West Germany before packing out shows in the US. By the end of the 80s and moving into the 90s the band were an unstoppable global phenomenon with packed out stadium shows and platinum records.

Considered one of the most influential British acts of all the time, the band continue to release albums and with Mute records and pack shows all over.

Live reviews

The concert was amazing when it comes to the bands' performance. The guys are always amazing and I just love them! However, Eventimn really screwed up the whole organisation of the event. Since we were all informed beforehand, that no cash will be accepted as a method of payment inside the stadium, we had to buy tokens in advance. We waited 30 minutes in line for those, thank G we only bought 10 EUR worth of tokens and not more. Then we waited 1,5 hours in line for drinks in the pouring rain, while the band already started their performance. If we knew this would happenm we would have not bought the tokens in the first place and we could have enjoyed the whole concert, pouring rain or not. Also, until it was our turn in line, we learned that we could have paid cash as well which really pissed us off even more. The tokens were non-refundable so you either use them or throw your money away. But Depeche Mode was amazing, they even made us forget about the terrible weather conditions :) I just wish that we could have enjoyed the concert in full, without missing half of it dues to the poor organisation of Eventim.

Depeche Mode is one of the biggest electronic acts in the world and seeing them live is an incredible, unforgettable experience for any electronic music lover. They have enjoyed international success for over 3 decades now and continue to tour with as much passion and energy as when the act first started performing in the early 80s and when the band consisted of school kids. Depeche Mode is a group of talented, unstoppable show men with natural charisma and stage presence. Their wide catalogue of musical successes range from synth pop classics to more rockier, edgier sounds. The band played all their old favourites from the past decades as well as their newer music. Even without lead songwriter Vincent Clarke at the fore, Depeche Mode are still very much worth seeing live. Dave Gahan continues to astound on vocals whilst Martin Gore wows on a whole range of instruments, switching mid show from guitar to keyboards and joining in on vocals. Andy Fletcher makes up the last of the band on keyboards. The show was packed out with fans of all ages cheering along to the legendary band.

Hard to believe, but I've been going to DM shows for nearly thirty years, now (wasn't till I got to college that I found people who liked the music I liked *and* were willing to travel for live shows). As usual, DM put out a great effort - they definitely aren't still touring just because they need the money (they aren't just phoning it in).

That said, you can tell they've been at this for nearly three decades. As noted above, you could tell they were putting the effort into it, you can also tell that Father Time is a bastard. Gahan doesn't quite have the lyrical power he once did and Gore is starting to sound a bit reedy. That said, the errors in singing and playing let you know that they were actually on stage, belting it out and not relying on enhancements to the sound. The show was heavy on "the classics" (songs from the 85-95 period) - though they did rearrange most of them - mostly to good effect.

Expensive show (as everything at the Verizon Center - or whatever the hell it's called now - always seem to be), but generally worth it.

I had a great time at the Depeche Mode Concert. I enjoyed the whole concert experience. I loved every song, and the videos played in the background. The band has high energy. The concert was packed from the very young to the very old. What amazed me is how the very young knew all the lyrics to every song the band played. Any wild antics was from the fans. Some of the fans wore some very outlandish outfits. I think the band members like the style of their fans. There is lots of fan participation. You have to attend one concert to experience their talent and the excitement. You won't be sorry. I am so looking forward to the next concert. The concert goes by too fast and you wonder where the time went. The only bad thing was the concert wasn't long enough and had to end. I wanted the concert to go on forever.

I say please just try one concert. Once you attend one of their concerts, you will become a fan for life.

A good concert in general.

The best part was the hit parade from the "good old days" at the final half hour to fourty minutes.

Coming to the concert area there was a challange with the logistics taking a very long time with checking everybody before entering.

People where cuing for a very long time.

The Arena it self is and was very good, had a lot of conveniences and everything you need really.

They have the possibility to play with the roof covered or open and they had the roof on for the concert. At the end the temperature and atmosphere was high.

Depeche Mode is an established band with lots of fans so the concert was sold out and good, not perfect because it lost momentum and the audience had problems interacting with the new releases an latest songs.

We did not make it in time to see the opening act so I can't review that.

Worth seeing every time but not superb.

I would give it a 7 out of 10.

Absolute fantastic, we were FOS and close enough to see them Face to Face - i love that they arrange every Song a little different and so i discover more and more favorite Songs. Sound was brilliant and not to loud , stunning dance performance of Dave and we all love Martin taking the lead vocal sometimes. All over all they really support the feeling that they are bythemself full of Joy and Happiness - made us sing all the time - play my favorite Song 'A Pain i used to know' andd all what i want to hear - if i could wish one Song for the next concert it would be'The things you said' or 'Waiting for the Night' - anyhow 'never let me down (again) - is one of the heights of the Concert - you know this waving thing - with the arms ...will see them again.

22 years later after having been introduced to Depeche Mode, I find myself blessed and fortunate to have been able to attend this concert. This is literally one of my so called "Kick the Bucket Concerts" of all time, that I absolutely ,and without a doubt had to attend to! It was everything I thought it would be and much more! They sound the same even after so many years. It had been at least 16 years since I had been to the Cynthia Mitchell Woods Pavilion and the entire night was a blast! Good, sound quality, light show and the Lawn area does bring back fond memories of my previous times! If you all have never seen Depeche Mode live in concert, I recommend you! The venue and the experience will be memorable for years to come!

Depeche Mode - RheinEnergie Stadium - Cologne -

05.06.2017 - The show was great! Dave was in a great mood and his voice was perfect. Martin was emotional and perfect, as usual. The sound was good, but I also had a great place - in front of the sound check booth. After the bad experience from Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, I will always try to stay close to the sound guy :). The location was great, just a big problem with the toilets - not enough and they also closed part of them before the end of the show and that created a chaos. As usual, the parking and getting out of the area takes long time after the show - but I guess it is normal. A draft beer was 5 EUR, but also a glass of water. Overall, it was a great show!

First time I've seen Depeche Mode live. It won't be the last I hope. I remember them from way back when, early 80's I think, yes I'm old!! The band are amazing, sound great & look great. Dave never stops moving around the stage, wish I had half of his energy!! They performed a mix of songs but mostly new ones from SPIRIT the new album. If you haven't got it yet, why not? Go out and get it!! But then towards the end of the show out came the crowds old favourites, but still sounding fresh to this day, and there was a good old sing a long!

Yes I will definitely go to see them again in the future. Highly recommended.

Depeche Mode announces first album and tour since Andy Fletcher’s death

Depeche Mode will return next year with a new album, “Memento Mori,” and an accompanying tour of North America and Europe. The announcement comes only a few months after the group’s co-founder and keyboardist Andy Fletcher died at 60 in May .

The album will be Depeche Mode’s 15th studio release (their first as a duo) and first since 2017′s “Spirit.”

The British New Wave band’s surviving members, Martin Gore and Dave Gahan, proclaimed their revival at a news conference in Berlin on Tuesday, with Gore saying of the album, “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time.”

Gore touched on how Fletcher’s passing influenced the decision to put out new music.

“After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning,” he said.

Keyboarder Andrew Fletcher of the British Synthie Pop Band Depeche Mode

Andy Fletcher, Depeche Mode co-founder and keyboardist, dies at 60

Fletcher helped define the sound of 1980s and ’90s alternative music through hits including ‘Just Can’t Get Enough,’ ‘Personal Jesus’ and ‘People Are People.’

May 26, 2022

“I’m sure that his absence in the studio in some way changes what we did, and that will happen when we perform on stage as well,” Gahan said to the Associated Press . “We have no intention of replacing Fletch on stage. He did his own thing there.”

When asked what Fletcher might think of the album, Gahan jokingly added, “I’m sure he would have had a lot to say. Probably the first thing he would have said was, ‘Why are there so many songs about death?’”

Depeche Mode announced Fletch’s death via a tweet , which read, in part, “We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness with the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member, and bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher. Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh, or a cold pint.”

Depeche Mode reveals co-founder Andy Fletcher’s cause of death

The band shared the cause of death for Depeche Mode keyboardist and co-founder Andy Fletcher, who died about a month ago at the age of 60.

June 28, 2022

According to the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee’s June 27 Instagram post , Fletcher died of an aortic dissection, a tear in the wall of the body’s main artery that causes blood to rush through.

“We wanted to take a moment and acknowledge the outpouring of love for Andy that we’ve seen from all of you over the last few weeks,” the band wrote. “It’s incredible to see all of your photos, to read your words, and to see how much Andy meant to all of you. As you can imagine, it’s been a strange, sad, disorienting few weeks for us here, to say the least. But we’ve seen and felt all of your love and support, and we know that Andy’s family has too.”

Depeche Mode, which was founded in 1980 by Fletcher, singer Gahan and keyboardists Gore and Vince Clarke in Basildon, England, ascended to become one of the most successful rock acts of its time. (Alan Wilder replaced Clarke in 1981.) Of his role in the group, Fletcher humbly said, “Martin’s the songwriter, Alan’s the good musician, Dave’s the vocalist, and I bum around.”

Times staff writers Randall Roberts and Kenan Draughorne contributed to this report.

Sadly, she didn't do a very good job of it but we got plenty of new information anyway. It opened with video of various pieces of equipment and Martin and Dave bobbing about in the studio with what appeared to be two new pieces of music soundtracking it. Depeche Mode have played the final show of their extensive ‘Memento Mori’ tour earlier this week. See footage and the setlist below.

  • READ MORE: Depeche Mode interviewed: “Do the best you can – you don’t know if you’re going to be doing it again”

The tour consisted of 112 shows in support of the band’s 15th studio album ‘ Memento Mori ’ and saw them perform to well over 2million fans. This marked their first record and tour since losing longtime bandmate and close friend Andy Fletcher .

Yesterday (April 8), the synth-pop legends wrapped up their massive tour at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany. The show saw them draw on a similar setlist throughout FROM the run, but naturally ended with an emotional climax and farewell from the band.

The setlist for Depeche Mode’s show in Cologne was:

‘My Cosmos Is Mine’ ‘Wagging Tongue’ ‘Walking in My Shoes’ ‘It’s No Good’ ‘Policy of Truth’ ‘In Your Room’ (Zephyr Mix) ‘Everything Counts’ ‘Precious’ ‘My Favourite Stranger’ ‘Strangelove’ (Acoustic; sung by Martin) ‘Somebody’ ‘Ghosts Again’ ‘I Feel You’ ‘A Pain That I’m Used To’ (Jacques Lu Cont Remix) ‘World in My Eyes’ (Dedicated to Andrew Fletcher) ‘Black Celebration’ ‘Stripped’ ‘Behind the Wheel’ ‘Enjoy the Silence’ ‘Waiting for the Night’ (Peter & Christian on keyboards) ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ ‘Never Let Me Down Again’ ‘Personal Jesus’

In  a glowing four-star review of Depeche Mode’s huge show at London’s Twickenham Stadium last summer, NME described the gig as as showing the band “at the top of their game and bonded in fraternity”.

“ Coldplay  might insert LEDs into your gums while  Muse  recreate War Of The Worlds with some balls-out bombast, but there’s an effortless cool to Depeche Mode’s stadium approach,” it read. “The Anton Corbijn stage design is sparse and simple, with just the giant M lettering of the new record and some tastefully simple visuals, leaving everything else down to the songs and personality with no pyro or pratting about.

“They may be demigods to their leather-clad cult, but tonight Depeche Mode have never seemed so human.”

Speaking to NME last year , Depeche Mode members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore opened up about what’s next for them following the end of tour.

“The most important thing is to be putting out good music and that people like it,” said Gore. “Once we finish this tour we’ll take a break, then we’ll see if and when we feel like doing it again. Up until now we always have. You never know, and I’m not saying that in a negative way. We just take each project as it comes.”

Gahan opened up about his compulsion to rejoin the group dispite being so vocal about his frequent reluctance, saying: “That is a good word. It was like that; I was compelled. Just when I thought I was out, they dragged me back in!”

He added: “Losing Fletch made that feeling more real. Everything will come to an end. I don’t know when that is. After Fletch passed and we had to continue I said, ‘Try to enjoy what you’ve got to do here and do the best you can’. You really don’t know if you’re going to be doing it again.”

In other news, the band marked the end of their ‘Memento Mori’ tour by sharing a new music video and huge remix package for ‘People Are Good’.
