Disney Cruise Line is in the midst of its largest expansion ever and opening our second, year-round home port is an important milestone. The Disney Dream will begin sailing from Disney Cruise Line’s new dedicated cruise terminal at Port Everglades on November 20, 2023, followed by the Disney Magic on May 9, 2024, offering guests the opportunity to sail on a mix of three-, four- and five-night cruises to tropical destinations in The Bahamas and the Caribbean.

AN EMBARKATION EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE BIG BLUE WORLD

As guests enter the terminal, they’ll travel from land to sea and “dive” into the world of the Disney and Pixar’s film, “Finding Nemo.” There, they’ll find some of their favorite friends from the movie on colorful murals, including fish, rays and beautiful coral. Guests will “swim” by Nemo’s school friends, including Tad, Sheldon and Pearl, and as they inch closer to embarkation, families be welcomed by Nemo, Marlin and Dory.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

With the Walt Disney World Resort just hours away from Fort Lauderdale, families can create lifelong memories together on land and at sea. The port is located in the heart of South Florida with close proximity to three international airports. And for pre- and post-cruise stays, Fort Lauderdale is just a short drive to the beach, offering a vibrant art scene, world-class restaurants, entertainment, shopping and family-friendly activities – including the area’s namesake, the Florida Everglades.

MORE CHANCES TO VISIT DISNEY’S ISLAND DESTINATIONS

Sail aboard the Disney Dream on four- and five-night cruises to tropical locales in the western Caribbean and The Bahamas. These sailings will visit to Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Nassau, along with stops at Castaway Cay, a private island paradise reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests to enjoy world-class beaches and ample amenities with a touch of Disney magic.

And for even more tropical fun, in 2024, families can sail from Fort Lauderdale to our new island destination, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in Eleuthera, The Bahamas. Disney is collaborating with talented artists and cultural advisors in The Bahamas who are helping to shape an experience at our new destination that celebrates the natural beauty, traditions and artistry of this one-of-a-kind nation.

Disney Cruise Line resumes US sailings from Florida in August with Disney Dream

disney cruise line florida

Disney Cruise Line announced Friday it will resume its Florida cruises Aug. 9.

"We're ready to welcome you aboard and set sail once again," Disney Signature Experiences President Thomas Mazloum said in a video posted on Instagram . Mazloum oversees Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club and Adventures by Disney, among other divisions.

The first sailings with paying passengers in the USA  since the coronavirus pandemic began will be on board the Disney Dream. The three- and four-night cruises will set sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, and visit Disney Castaway Cay, the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas.

"We are resuming sailing in a gradual, phased approach that emphasizes multiple layers of health and safety measures, developed in consideration of guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other medical experts," Disney Cruise Line  wrote in an advisory to guests.

The cruise line said it was preparing its Disney Fantasy and Disney Wonder ships for sailings. Disney Magic offers short sailings in the U.K. this summer, exclusively for British residents.

New health and safety measures

  • Vaccinations are "strongly encouraged" but will not be required on Disney Dream sailings from Florida. Guests who show proof of vaccination can skip required coronavirus testing.
  • Everyone who does not show proof of vaccination must take a coronavirus test before leaving home and at port and have negative results from both tests to board the ship.
  • Face masks will be required in "most indoor public areas" for all guests age 2 and up.
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the ship and the cruise line's private island.
  • Ship capacity will be reduced to allow for more social distancing.

The cruise line said there will be twice-daily stateroom cleanings, new air purification systems and extra attention paid to high-touch surfaces.

"While some things may look a bit different for now, you can rest assured that the dazzling entertainment, impeccable service and attention to detail that have long defined Disney vacations remain the same," Mazloum said.

What happens if there's COVID-19 on board?

Disney Cruise Line said experienced doctors and other medical crew will be available on board to screen for and respond to coronavirus symptoms.

Its website said, "If a threshold of COVID-19 is detected on board the cruise ship during a voyage, the voyage will be ended immediately and the ship will return to the U.S. port of embarkation, and your subsequent travel, including your return home, may be restricted or delayed. ... By sailing with Disney Cruise Line you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree to follow all health and safety measures implemented by Disney Cruise Line and any relevant governments and authorities."

Can I cancel my cruise?

The cruise line said guests with COVID-19 symptoms or exposure may cancel their bookings within 14 days of sailing and get a full refund or apply their fares toward future sailings without Disney's usual cancellation fees. Guests without COVID-19 concerns will have a " relaxed cancellation fee schedule " this year.

Guests who book sailings by July 31 for travel this year can change their sail date up to 15 days before their scheduled departure.

Disney test cruise

Days before the return-to-sail announcement, Disney Dream completed a two-night test sailing , which had been postponed because of inconsistent coronavirus tests among crew.

The simulation cruise ,  approved by the CDC , included roughly 300 Disney cruise employees and their guests.

It was the first cruise out of Port Canaveral since cruising shut down in March 2020 during the pandemic, according to Florida Today , part of the USA TODAY Network.

“The grand opening of our new dedicated terminal is an incredible milestone as we embark on the largest expansion in our cruise line’s history,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line. “Now our guests will have even more options to experience the magic of a Disney vacation at sea and can begin creating lifelong memories with their loved ones from the moment they arrive.”

Port Everglades’ ideal location in South Florida offers guests the opportunity to experience beautiful beaches, world-class entertainment, shopping, and dining, as well as family and cultural activities, before or after their cruise. Port leaders attended the dedication ceremony, including Port Everglades CEO and port director, Jonathan Daniels. He stated that, “Disney Cruise Line is adding a new dimension to the Port Everglades experience. Our staff is looking forward to this new journey with Disney Cruise Line and further diversifying our cruise portfolio to reach a broader audience.”

Broward County Mayor Lamar P. Fisher also attended the grand opening celebration, along with federal, state, and local leaders, and said, “Dream vacations start here in Broward County. The addition of Disney Cruise Line in our community provides travelers with more vacation options at Port Everglades, while boosting our local economy and creating more than 1,100 direct local jobs.”

disney cruise line florida

Disney Cruise Line is committed to creating a lasting, positive impact in port communities. In recognition of Disney’s arrival to Port Everglades, the cruise line announced new community investments in Junior Achievement South Florida and Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. The donations will support a variety of initiatives, including programs that inspire career exploration, innovation, and storytelling.

“Being a good steward in the port communities where Disney Cruise Line operates is so important to us. We’re proud to continue to invest in local youth programs that help empower and inspire the next generation of dreamers in Broward County,” Siskie said. Collaboration with these organizations will also provide Disney Cruise Line cast and crew, both on land and at sea, with the opportunity to volunteer as mentors and engage with local students through various educational programs.

“Community partners, like Disney Cruise Line, play a pivotal role in empowering the youth of today, shaping their futures for tomorrow. This support is not just a financial contribution, it’s an investment in the next generation,” said Laurie Sallarulo, president & CEO of Junior Achievement of South Florida (JA).

Disney Cruise Line’s donation to Junior Achievement of South Florida will support the JA Career Bound and JA Pre-Apprenticeship programs, including a special marine service technician track that educates students about the maritime industry, marine basics and engine fundamentals.

Chris Gentile, Co-CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, added, “The impact of Disney Cruise Line’s commitment reaches the very heart of our mission, which is to empower and uplift the youth of Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County.” Disney Cruise Line’s donation will help strengthen and support several of the organization’s initiatives, such as the Youth of the Year program.

The Disney Dream will begin sailing from Port Everglades on November 20, 2023, followed by the Disney Magic on May 9, 2024, offering guests the opportunity to sail on a mix of three-, four- and five-night cruises to tropical destinations in The Bahamas and the Caribbean.

As part of Disney Cruise Line’s expansion, Disney Cruise Line and Broward County previously announced a 15-year agreement that provides for one ship to homeport in Port Everglades year-round beginning this fall 2023, joined by a second, seasonal ship in 2025.

How to Qualify for Florida Resident Discounts on Disney Cruises

Florida Residents must meet the following conditions to qualify for Florida Resident Discounts on Disney Cruises:

  • At check-in, at least one adult per stateroom must present proof of Florida residency . Guests without valid proof of Florida residency will be required to pay the difference before embarkation.
  • Valid proof of residency is required at the time of sailing. These include a Florida Driver’s License and a Florida Identification Card .

What should you do if one of these IDs is not available? You can present a valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., passport, driver’s license, state identification card) and one of these documents (dated within the past two months):

  • Utility bill (cable/electricity/phone/water)
  • Automobile insurance policy, registration, or bill
  • Homeowner’s insurance policy or bill
  • Monthly mortgage statement or renter’s lease agreement
  • Mail from a financial institution (account statements) or government agency

Additional conditions:

  • Property deeds and P.O. boxes are unacceptable as proof of residency.
  • Children’s rates apply to guests ages 3-12 traveling with two adults in the same stateroom.
  • Other categories and sail dates with different rates may be available.
  • This offer is limited to 50 staterooms per sailing and cannot be combined with other specials or discounts.
  • Valid for new and existing reservations, subject to Disney Cruise Line Terms and Conditions .

2. Maximize Savings with Onboard Credit Promotions

One of the best ways to enhance your Disney cruise savings is by making the most of onboard credit promotions from top-rated Disney travel agencies like The Vacationeer . These credits essentially provide free money that can be redeemed for a variety of onboard amenities and services, including spa treatments, cocktails, shore excursions, activities, and souvenirs. Onboard credits can substantially lower your out-of-pocket expenses during your cruise, allowing you more flexibility to indulge in the onboard experiences you desire.

When booking a Disney cruise through The Vacationeer , clients receive substantial onboard credits, with amounts ranging from $25 to $1,000 , based on the total cruise cost and booking method. Combine these Disney onboard credits with Florida resident discounts for maximum savings and an enhanced cruise experience.

3. Score Last-Minute Disney Cruise Deals

Florida residents can save on their next Disney cruise by taking advantage of last-minute deals, also known as Restricted Guarantee fares. These special fares offer significant savings without sacrificing the magical experience Disney cruises are known for. By maintaining flexibility in your travel plans and stateroom choices, you can book a last-minute Disney cruise at a more affordable price.

Keep in mind that these deals cannot be combined with Florida Resident deals – you can only use one promotion at a time. However, you may still pair either offer with onboard credit provided by a travel agency for extra savings. Contact The Vacationeer to find the perfect last-minute Disney cruise and enjoy generous onboard credit as a booking bonus.

4. Save with Early Booking Discounts

Florida residents can secure savings by booking their Disney cruises early. Disney Cruise Line typically releases their itineraries over a year in advance, often offering their lowest standard fares upon public release. By booking their cruise well in advance, guests, including Florida residents, can take advantage of these discounted rates. Additionally, they will have access to a broader choice of staterooms and itineraries, as availability is at its highest when itineraries are initially released to the public.

However, keep in mind that booking your Disney cruise well in advance might make you ineligible for Florida Resident Discounts, which typically emerge just a few months prior to departure. As a result, you must weigh your options – deciding whether to wait for a Florida resident deal closer to the departure date or book early to lock in a lower rate and the best stateroom choices.

Florida residents have the unique benefit of multiple savings opportunities on Disney cruises, making it easier to plan an unforgettable and cost-effective vacation. Reach out to The Vacationeer to discuss your best options and find the perfect cruise for you.

Discuss Your Options With an Expert (It’s FREE!)

5. Off-Season Savings Opportunities

Florida residents can save on their Disney cruise by traveling during the off-season. With lower prices due to reduced demand, sailing during less busy times offers a more affordable Disney vacation without sacrificing the experience. Consider booking during periods when the kids are in school and demand is lower.

Disney cruises are typically more affordable during:

  • January (except for New Year’s week)
  • Early February
  • May, September, and October
  • Early November
  • Early December

During these less busy periods, you may find lower rates , shorter lines , and less crowded onboard activities . Florida residents have an added advantage with this strategy, as they can travel during off-season dates more easily than those living farther away. As a result, you can enjoy your Disney cruise to the fullest while staying within your budget.

6. Inside Stateroom Savings Potential

Florida residents looking to save on their Disney cruise can opt for an Inside stateroom, which offers a more budget-friendly alternative than Oceanview, Verandah, and Concierge staterooms .

While Inside staterooms lack the natural light and views provided by Oceanview rooms or the private outdoor space of Verandah staterooms, they still provide a comfortable and roomy living area for guests to unwind. Inside staterooms differ substantially from the luxurious Concierge category, which features premium amenities and personalized services.

Although Inside rooms are more basic and don’t have a wow factor, they are perfect for travelers who plan on spending most of their time discovering the ship’s numerous attractions and are seeking a budget-friendly option.

To learn more about the various stateroom options and find the perfect fit for your Disney cruise, check out our comprehensive guide to the best staterooms on Disney cruises .

7. Disney Visa Cardholder Exclusive Savings

Florida residents who are Disney Visa credit cardholders can enjoy additional savings on their Disney cruise, including discounts on merchandise, onboard spa treatments, digital photo packages, and packages to Castaway Cay, Disney’s Private Island . These exclusive offers enhance the cruise experience while providing significant savings. Furthermore, Disney Visa cardholders may also receive special onboard credits when booking their cruise, adding extra value for Florida residents.

8. Leverage Disney Cruise Line’s Loyalty Program

Florida residents can access special rates and perks by joining Disney Cruise Line’s loyalty programs, Disney Vacation Club (DVC) and Castaway Club (CC). Both programs offer early booking options, better pricing, and more flexible reservations for cabins and dining.

The Disney Vacation Club is a timeshare program that lets members plan vacations at Disney destinations, including cruises. Members can use their points to book discounted cruises (because they always get “opening day pricing” that doesn’t change over time), attend exclusive onboard events, and save on future cruises.

There are four levels of membership in the Castaway Club , Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Pearl, based on how many cruises you have completed. There are a number of benefits associated with each tier, including priority check-in, early booking for excursions and dining, stateroom gifts, and exclusive events.

Florida residents can maximize their savings and enhance their Disney Cruise Line experience by utilizing these loyalty programs. Choose the program that aligns with your travel preferences and frequency.

9. Monitor Disney Cruise Promotions Closely

In addition to the exclusive Florida Residents Discounts mentioned in the first tip, Florida residents should also keep a close eye on other promotions and special offers from Disney Cruise Line. These can include seasonal discounts, themed cruises, military discounts , and discounts for specific groups. Staying informed about these promotions not only maximizes your savings potential but also helps you find the perfect Disney cruise tailored to your preferences.

Contact The Vacationeer to determine which promotions you may qualify for as a Florida resident, ensuring you get the best value on your magical Disney cruise vacation.

10. Utilize the Expertise of a Disney Travel Agency

Should You Take Disney Cruise Line Transportation? What You Need to Know.

by Jenn Marrazzo | Nov 9, 2023 | Disney Cruise Line

Heading on a Disney Cruise soon? Here’s why you should consider taking Disney Cruise transportation to the port.

Guests headed onboard a Disney Cruise from Port Canaveral in Florida are probably facing some exciting decisions as they get ready to sail. From what excursions they should book to any onboard extras, there are so many ways to personalize your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

One thing that most people don’t consider is transportation to the port. How are you getting from Orlando International Airport or Walt Disney World to Port Canaveral and back? Well, one option to consider is to utilize official Disney transportation services.  We’re going to break down whether you should take Disney Cruise Transportation on your next sailing and what the alternatives are.

Distance to Port Canaveral from Orlando

Port Canaveral is located on the East Coast of Florida and is parallel with Orlando. With that said, it is a little bit of a hike from the port to the Greater Orlando Area, so keep that in mind when visiting.

Orlando International to Port Canaveral

Orlando International and Port Canaveral are about 47 miles apart. Therefore, you can expect a ride of about 45 minutes back and forth. That is assuming there is no traffic, so always add on some extra time to account for Orlando traffic.

Walt Disney World to Port Canaveral

The Walt Disney World Resort and Port Canaveral are about 59 miles apart. The ride between the two is approximately one hour back and forth. Again, the closer you get to Disney, you could face some extensive traffic, so always prepare ahead of time if you are leaving for your cruise.

Transportation Options to Port Canaveral

There are a few ways to travel from Port Canaveral to Orlando. We’ll break down these different ways for you.

Whether you are headed to Port Canaveral from Orlando International or decided to stay at Disney World for a few days before, one option is taking an Uber or Lyft to the Port. As we previously mentioned, Port Canaveral is a hike from both the airport and the parks, so the cost will reflect that. You can expect an Uber or Lyft to cost you around $100 or more given the distance.

Official Disney Cruise Line Transportation

The other option that guests can consider when embarking on a Disney Cruise is official Disney Cruise Line Transportation. This transportation will have you picked up at either the airport or at your Disney Resort and brought to the terminal in Port Canaveral. The transportation cost is $39/per person. To discuss specific options for your cruise and travel itinerary, call Disney Cruise Line at (800) 951-3532.

Benefits of Disney Cruise Line Transportation

Earlier boarding group/port arrival.

One of the best parts about using Disney Cruise Line Transportation is that you arrive at the port early and therefore, are given an earlier boarding group to get onto your ship. That means your vacation starts early! These boarding groups are usually highly coveted and people will start their check-in exactly on the date it opens. But if you use a Disney Transfer, they will take care of that for you so you aren’t waiting around.

Easy to Book and Guaranteed Pick Up

Booking a Disney Transfer is quite easy. Once you make your final payment for your cruise, you are able to book on the Disney Cruise Line app or website. You’ll be prompted to add transportation at either the beginning of your cruise, the end of your cruise, or both.

Luggage Transfer

You are on vacation so don’t stress about carrying your luggage around. By simply adding your Disney Cruise Line luggage tag onto your luggage prior to pickup, you won’t have to worry about luggage at all. If you are staying at a Disney World resort hotel or at the Hyatt at Orlando International, a representative from Disney Cruise Line will come early in the morning to pick up your bags. It’s as simple as that… you’ll find them onboard in your room.

If you are flying on the day of your cruise, Disney Cruise Line will pick up your luggage from baggage claim and bring it to the Port so that once again, you’ll find your luggage onboard. We love this perk and think this is totally worth the process.

Entertainment on Board

When being picked up by Disney Cruise Line Transportation, you’ll have access to Disney entertainment onboard your bus. If you remember Disney’s Magical Express Service , you’ll receive similar entertainment to that. From Disney cartoons to information about the port, it’s a great way to keep the magic flowing right into your Disney Cruise.

Downsides of Disney Cruise Line Transportation

As we mentioned, the Disney Transfer costs $39/per person. If you are a family of 4, you are looking at a cost of over $150 to use the service. While that might not be intriguing for some, it’s something to think about before you click that book button.

Multiple Stops

If you are being picked up at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel, keep in mind that you will most likely be stopping at multiple resorts around WDW. Since there’s probably many guests who are being picked up, they will try to get as many people as possible onto the transfer. That means you’ll spend more time onboard the bus.

You Have No Say in Pick-Up Time

If you are someone who doesn’t like the idea of being told when it’s time to leave, this service might not be for you. That’s because you have no say in the pick-up time for the bus. Disney will schedule this for you according to where you are being picked up and when they have the most demand.

Should You Take It?

While we broke down both the pros and cons of Disney Transportation, we highly recommend that you take the Disney Transportation. From not worrying about luggage to receiving an earlier boarding group, the pros outweigh the few cons we can find.

FAQs of Disney Cruise Line Transportation

What’s the cost of disney cruise line transportation .

Disney Cruise Line Transportation costs $39 per person per way.

Can you book Disney Cruise Line Transportation if you are flying into Orlando Airport the day of?

Absolutely! That’s one of the best parts! You’ll find a Disney Curise Line representative in the terminal ready to take you over to the port. But, remember, you must book this ahead of time.

Will they pick you up at a Disney World Resort or at the Hyatt at Orlando Airport?

Guests love the fact that Disney Cruise Line Transportation can whisk you from the parks to the ship. Sometimes people even stay at the Hyatt at Orlando Airport and you can also receive the service if you are staying there too.

What happens if you get to the port before your port arrival time?

By booking a Disney Cruise Line transfer, you’ll receive an earlier port time and boarding group to accommodate you if you arrive early. You won’t have to wait around outside if you get there earlier than expected.

Is it easy to book?

It sure is! Just visit the Disney Cruise Line app or use the Disney Cruise Line website after your final payment is submitted to purchase this add-on.

I t was bound to happen sometime, but Disney Cruise Line waited until its last of three new sister ships to name one Disney Destiny.

The sister ship to Disney Wish, which debuted out of Port Canaveral in 2022 and the soon-to-debut Disney Treasure arriving in Central Florida this December, the third ship in what was originally called the Trident class had its keel laying ceremony Wednesday at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

It won’t start sailing until 2025, and its home port has yet to be named, but among the details revealed for what will be the eighth ship in the cruise line’s fleet was the theme of the vessel, “Heroes & Villains.”

As such, the filigree artwork for the bow will be of Minnie Mouse wearing a superhero-style outfit complete with a cape.

The cruise line said among the characters from which it will mine features on board will be classic Disney animation films, “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”

Disney of course owns plenty of good vs. evil intellectual property including Star Wars and Marvel.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager for the cruise line, in a press release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising.”

Just like Disney Wish and Treasure, Disney Destiny will be powered by liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that’s part of the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce emissions.

All three are the 144,000 gross-ton, 1,254-stateroom vessels but still targeting the 4,000-passenger capacity of its older ships, 2011’s Disney Dream and 2012’s Fantasy. The line’s first ships are the smaller Disney Magic that debuted in 1998 and Disney Wonder in 1999. They come in at 84,000 gross tons with 875 staterooms.

The line also is finishing construction for an Asia-bound cruise ship named Disney Adventure that will be the largest in the fleet at 208,000 gross tons.

Disney Wish became the line’s first new ship in more than a decade. It continues to do short three- and four-night Bahamas sailings while Disney Treasure will pick up seven-night trips to the Caribbean.

Watch this charming video of Pluto greeting happy golden retriever and Disney superfan Forest

disney cruise line florida

You might be a big fan of a Disney character, but you'll probably never love Pluto as much as Forest the Golden Retriever .

The 5-year-old service dog was caught on video in March by owner Ashton McGrady romping with its favorite fictional Fido on the Disney Creators Lab cruise on the Disney Wish ship event for influencers and content creators. It was a joyous reunion, as Forest has met Mickey Mouse's yellow dog several times since their first encounter at Disney World in 2021.

"Either we will intentionally go seek Pluto out to say hello, or Pluto has sought us out," McGrady told People . "Pluto stepped out of the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Walt Disney World to say hello to Forest because we were right there in front, and he stopped to wave and blow kisses at Forest. It was adorable."

McGrady, of Nashville, posted the video to TikTok with the caption, "proof that distance won’t keep the very best of friends apart ❤️🚢✨ we love you pluto!!!" to the song "Best of Friends" from "The Hound + The Fox." The video showing Forest and his stuffed Pluto toy greeting the "real" one has received 2.2 million views.

"I just hope whoever is friends with this Pluto knows they made our entire cruise experience!" McGrady commented on the video. "✨ so magical"

Forest is trained in mobility assistance and medical response to help McGrady travel safely and independently and her TikTok account, @radiantlygolden , often shows the two of them navigating Disney parks and other areas. The most recent one, with 6.9 million views, shows Forest choosing a stuffed blue Stitch animal over a yellow one.

An emergency slide falls off a delta air lines plane, forcing pilots to return to jfk in new york.

Associated Press

NEW YORK – An emergency slide fell off a Delta Air Lines jetliner shortly after takeoff Friday from New York, and pilots who felt a vibration in the plane circled back to land safely at JFK Airport.

Delta said that after takeoff the pilots got an alert about the emergency slide on the plane's right side and heard an unusual sound coming from that area of the Boeing 767 jet, which is listed as having been manufactured in 1990.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the crew reported a vibration.

Pilots declared an emergency so the flight could be be routed quickly back to the airport, and the plane landed and taxied to a gate under its own power, according to the airline.

There were 176 passengers, two pilots and five flight attendants on board the flight, which was scheduled to fly to Los Angeles. Delta said it put passengers on another plane to California.

Delta said the plane was removed from service for evaluation and it was cooperating with investigators and supporting efforts to find the slide.

“As nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, Delta flight crews enacted their extensive training and followed procedures to return to JFK,” the airline said in a statement.
