Amala Zandile Dlamini (aka Doja Cat) began her long journey to music stardom in her hometown of Los Angeles. She developed a fanbase quickly thanks to frequent posts on her personal SoundCloud.

Her passion for music grew exponentially, and when her first single “So High” went viral in 2012, she grabbed the attention of executives at RCA Records. Shortly after, she landed a deal with the major label at age 17 in 2014. The soon-to-be star was ready to hit the charts in full force.

Doja Cat relied on virality to launch her career. Her 2018 single “Mooo!” was proof of this stellar promotion tactic. Not only did it spread across social media as a hilarious meme, but it also showcased Doja Cat’s sarcastic and unpredictable personality.

New listeners didn’t know what to expect from Doja Cat’s debut album, Amala. However, fans weren’t disappointed. The 13-track album was the epitome of Doja Cat’s free and unique aura. While Amala was a commercial failure and largely ignored by critics, its blend of hip-hop and pop influences, humor, and sexuality would form the bedrock of Doja Cat’s later success.

As her staple humor shined through the entirety of Amala, she won over the mainstream media and set out to make something even bolder. Her 2019 sophomore album, Hot Pink, showed she wasn’t afraid to stand out. It featured the fan-favorite track “Say So” and garnered attention on apps like TikTok. Continuing to solidify her status as a viral artist became second nature. The rest of 2019 was busy for Doja Cat as she racked up star-studded collaborations with Tyga, Gucci Mane, and Smino.

Doja Cat’s Hot Pink accomplishments included multiple Grammy nominations like Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Record of the Year. The stakes were high for her next LP. Luckily, Doja Cat knew how to raise the bar and further explore her versatility.

In 2021, the single “Kiss Me More” dropped, featuring fellow songstress SZA, and marked another addition to Doja Cat’s discography. It kicked things off right with its catchy, pop-friendly sound. The single hit the radio and sparked more interest on social media. Eventually, “Kiss Me More” secured Doja Cat her first Grammy win. Loyal fans were excited to see what her third album had in store.

Doja Cat’s third album, Planet Her, finally arrived in 2021 and showed she was ready to expand her repertoire. She delivered fresh takes on R&B, hip-hop, and pop while never sacrificing lyrical quality. Listeners got more of a sneak peek into Doja Cat’s perspective on feminism, sexuality, and relationships. Additional features from Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Young Thug were another polished element to this innovative album.

Doja Cat’s presence on social media drives her popularity to ever-greater heights. She has the sense of humor to maintain her reputation as a long-lasting internet personality. However, she never lets that overshadow her love for music.

With every full-length release, Doja Cat offers a refreshing view of taboo topics while breaking down boundaries for fellow female R&B and pop musicians. With more albums and concerts on the way, Doja Cat shows no signs of stopping.

Live reviews

Smallest venue I’ve ever been to and definitely one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. From the moment i walked in i could tell that i was going to be incredible close. Me and my girlfriend were only an hour away from Doja Opening and both of her openers starboi & Pelle knocked it out of the park. When she came out it was explosive. Her stage presence was insane. I’ve never seen an artist so willing and eager to interact with fans. I got to touch her hand once and hold it for 3 seconds in the crowd and i made so much freaking eye contact with her (probably because i was the most lit in my area). Song selection was off the chart. I will be seeing her again when she comes to Chicago and that’s a promise

After each live on your instagram I wish I could see you in concert. And this Friday 8, it’s happened and I was so happy with my friend! He really appreciated because I told about you and your music.

You’re too cute! 4 years ago, I discovered you on spotify and the First song I heard was «  so high » and Woah. I was in love of this song « i know you ain’t a drug » but the song it was. The music with Dream Koala, a french artist I like was epic. « No police »!

Now you’re here. I’m proud and I will come to the next concert with all my friend.

Shit I love your personality x)

She. Is. So. Hot. Her singing is great but i missed out on her twerking because i couldnt get to the front so i watched it through other peoples cameras. Gig venues should really be on a slope so that the short people can see. Or tall people shouldnt be a***holes and stand at the back wher they can see perfectly fine! Im not mad.

The show didn't start till 12:30am when it said it would start at 9am. They should've had the line up to reflect the time that people would go up. Doja said fuck our bedtime but she can also run me over with a car so I guess I'm okay with it.

About Doja Cat:

GRAMMY award-winning global superstar Doja Cat made her first upload to Soundcloud in 2013 at just 16 years old . Having grown up in and around the LA area, she developed a knack for music by studying piano and dance as a kid and listening to the likes of Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and more. Signed to Kemosabe/RCA Records in 2014, she released her Purrr! EP and followed that with her debut album Amala in spring 2018, but it was her August 2018 release of “MOOO!” which catapulted her into the mainstream and was met with critical acclaim.

Doja Cat released her sophomore GRAMMY-nominated platinum album Hot Pink in November 2019 to mass critical acclaim; the album has garnered over 6 billion streams worldwide. It features “Streets”, the viral sensation that soundtracked the ‘Silhouette Challenge,’ one of the biggest TikTok trends to date and her GRAMMY-nominated #1 smash record “Say So” which has been RIAA certified 6x platinum and catapulted Doja into global superstardom.

With over 20 billion worldwide streams to date, Doja’s creativity and showmanship as a performer have been praised time and time again, she has delivered unique and show-stopping performances on nearly all the major Award Show stages and music festivals throughout the world. Doja Cat’s GRAMMY award-winning album Planet Her came out in June 2021 and dominated the charts, debuting at #1 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and generated the highest first day Spotify streams for an album by a female rapper. GRAMMY award-winning “Kiss Me More” ft. SZA, the lead single off Planet Her is certified 5x platinum by the RIAA and hit #1 at Top 40 and Rhythm radio with over 2.2 billion streams worldwide. That fall, Doja Cat became the first rapper to have 3 songs in the Top 10 at Top 40 radio. Last year, “Woman” went to the top of the Billboard Rhythmic Airplay charts which ascended her to become the first women to have four #1 hits from one album, other hits including “You Right” with The Weeknd and “Need to Know.” She went on to land at #1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart for the first time. Amongst others, Doja has won 5 AMAs, 5 Billboard Music Award, 3 MTV VMAs, 3 BMI Awards, 2 MTV EMAs, 1 GRAMMY Award and 1 NAACP Image Award along with garnering a total of 16 GRAMMY Award nominations. Additionally, Doja has been nominated for 20 Billboard Music Awards, 10 MTV VMAs, 9 AMAs, 9 BET Awards, 8 MTV EMAs, 5 BMI Awards and dozens more. Most recently, Doja was named one of TIME100’s Most Influential People of 2023, where she was featured on the cover issue in April 2023 as well as performed at the TIME100 Gala in New York City.

Essential Albums

Pop music is, by design, kaleidoscopic, and Doja Cat’s third album takes full advantage of its fluidity. Planet Her is ushered in on the euphoric Afropop of “Woman” and moves seamlessly into the reggaetón-kissed “Naked”, the hip-hop-meets-hyperpop of “Payday” and the whimsical ad-lib trap of “Get Into It (Yuh)”—and that’s just the first four songs. Later, R&B ballads and club-ready anthems also materialise from the ether, encompassing the spectrum of contemporary capital-P Pop and also the multihued sounds that are simply just popular, even if only in their corners of the internet for now. This is Doja’s strength. She’s long understood how mainstream sensibility interacts with counterculture (or what's left of it anyway, for better and worse), and she’s nimbly able to translate both. Planet Her checks all the right boxes and accentuates her talent for shape-shifting—she sounds just as comfortable rapping next to Young Thug or JID as she does crooning alongside The Weeknd or Ariana Grande—but it’s so pristine, so in tune with the music of the moment that it almost verges on parody. Is this Doja’s own reflection or her reflecting her fans back to themselves? Her brilliance lies in the fact that the answer doesn’t much matter. The best pop music is nothing if not a blurring of the lines between reality and fantasy, its brightest stars so uniquely themselves and yet whatever else they need to be, too.

More To See

About doja cat.

Some call the end of summer the “slow news season”—school's still out, holidays are in full swing, and headlines tend to get weird—and Doja Cat (born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini in 1995) knew just what to do about it. In August of 2018, the Los Angeles singer and rapper dropped “Mooo!”, a sultry R&B jam, thick with double entendres and sung from the perspective of a cow. It went viral, thanks to an unforgettable, improbably catchy chorus that had people wondering: Could she possibly be for real? But Doja, who released her debut EP, Purrr!, in 2014, and her first album, Amala, in 2018, was no novelty act. In the years since, she has proven herself one of pop music’s savviest, most audacious characters. She raps nimbly, switching up her cadence from one syllable to the next, and her pop-culture nods (referencing actresses Tia and Tamera Mowry or sampling blink-182 and Paul Anka) are just as unpredictable as her dizzying flow. Her presentation is both tough and coquettish. As she demonstrated over and over on her 2019 album, Hot Pink, she assumes a fun and fundamentally empowered stance in her singing and rapping about sex. And woe to anyone who might take issue with that: “Sex is meaningful, it is!” she told Apple Music, with her trademark defiant charm.

Here's everything to know about Doja Cat's upcoming 'Scarlet' tour.

Doja Cat Is Bringing Her Bloody Alter-Ego On Tour & Fans Are Shook

Openers include “it” girl rappers Ice Spice and Doechii.

Doja Cat just gave fans another iconic reason to “look at her.” On June 23, the rapper announced she’s embarking on her first all-arena tour. The news felt like a shock-drop, as Doja Cat told Elle in 2022 she wanted to take a break after releasing her fourth album . At the time, it seemed touring wasn’t in the cards for her. However, fast forward to today, and she’s bringing her sonic presence (and bloody alter-ego Scarlet) on the road.

Doja Cat first teased The Scarlet Tour on Twitter. There, she tweeted the tour’s name alongside a gnarly image of herself with red-painted lips. This could also be her aforementioned alternate Scarlet, whom she first introduced in her “Attention” music video on June 15. In the same post, Doja Cat also announced rappers Ice Spice and Doechii will join as openers. The 24-date tour (which will trek through North America) will begin in San Francisco, fittingly, on Halloween. She’ll then visit cities such as Miami, Las Vegas, Denver, Los Angeles, Houston, and Brooklyn before wrapping up in early December.

Doja Cat's The Scarlet Tour will star rappers Ice Spice and Doechii as openers.

Like many tours, the ticket-buying process for The Scarlet Tour will begin with advanced registration to filter out bots and scalpers. Fans can register on Ticketmaster now through June 25 at 10 p.m. PST. Once the registration ends, fans will be randomly selected to receive a code that’ll give them access to the presales, which start on June 28. A general sale (which will only have a limited number of tickets on Ticketmaster) will follow on June 30 at 10 a.m. local time.

This tour announcement startled fans, as Doja Cat hasn’t offered up much information about her new current era.

So far, the rapper has only released her single “Attention,” which is alleged to appear on her upcoming album. As for her new record, the lyricist dropped breadcrumbs about its direction and how it’ll lean more into the rap sphere. At one point, the performer hinted the album would be titled Hellmouth ; however, she backtracked and stated she nor her team have given the release a name.

While details about Doja Cat’s unnamed album are sparse, that can’t be said about her upcoming slate of shows. Here’s everything to know about her Scarlet Tour.

Doja Cat’s alter-ego tour will kick off in San Fransisco, California on Oct. 31, 2023.

What’s The Setlist For The Scarlet Tour?

Doja Cat hasn’t hinted what the tour’s setlist will be; however, it’s safe to assume she’ll perform “Attention” and other tracks from her upcoming album once it releases. She might also show love to her previous hit-making albums (2021’s Planet Her and 2019’s Hot Pink ), but fans should keep their hopes at bay for this theory. Recently, the rapper called both of those creations “cash grabs” and stated she wants to stray away from creating “mediocre pop” records.

Doja Cat Is Bringing New Music to The Victoria’s Secret World Tour

The updated show is part documentary, part fashion event

doja cat

This fall marks a new dawn for Doja Cat.

The star will finally release heavily anticipated new music following her megahit 2021 album, Planet Her , and she’ll be headed out across the country for her Scarlet Tour starting this Halloween. But before that, Harper’s Bazaar can exclusively reveal, she’s set to headline The Victoria’s Secret World Tour . It’s a major moment not just for the rapper, but also for the brand: The event, which is part fashion show, part documentary, marks Victoria’s Secret’s first return to our screens since its final televised runway show in 2018.

“Victoria’s Secret has always been such a fun, go-to brand for me since early on, and I love that I can still say that today,” Doja Cat tells Bazaar ahead of the show’s premiere on Prime Video on September 26. “Being a part of a global phenomenon like the Tour has been an incredible experience.”

Via the World Tour , fans of Victoria’s Secret will be introduced to the VS20, a group of 20 creatives from around the world who collaborated with the brand on ensembles for a newly imagined version of its signature runway show. Doja Cat got in on the design action as well, helping conceptualize her looks for the special performance, including a futuristic nude-hued latex number she designed alongside the Victoria’s Secret team and her creative director, Brett Alan Nelson.

“Because the Tour is a celebration of the strength and unique talent of creatives, we really wanted to channel this message through this look,” she says. “I felt so powerful and confident wearing these pieces, which is so important to me.”

doja cat victoria's secret world tour

Like many of us, she says, sees Victoria’s Secret as one of the forces that helped shape her personal outlook on beauty and sex appeal.

“My idea of what makes me beautiful, sexy, and confident has evolved so much over the years, but I’ve always known that what matters most is how I feel about myself,” she says. “To me, sexy is being comfortable in my own skin and celebrating myself for who I am. Being a part of the Tour really helped connect me with that.”

Looking past the World Tour , Doja Cat is actively working on new music for her fans, and she plans to give them a taste come September 26.

“I don’t want to spoil too much, but like past projects, there’s lots of different energy to songs, plus new sounds that I’ve never explored before,” she teases. “So that is exciting to me, and I can’t wait to put it out.”

Doja Cat at Coachella review – an electrifying tour de force

Empire Polo Club, Indio, California

Festival headliner delivered an A-game set, ignoring some of her mainstream hits yet bringing enough energy to power what some have called a middling year

D oja Cat took the Coachella main stage as the last official act to perform on Sunday’s bill, becoming the first female rapper to headline the festival. (She’s also only the second Black woman to do so, after Beyoncé in 2018.) Her closer rounded out a Sunday showcase of powerhouse female performers such as Reneé Rapp and Kesha duetting the recession banger TiK ToK – changing the opening line to “wake up in the morning saying fuck P Diddy” – and Victoria Monet grinding through a slick and ultra-sexy set, at one point receiving artfully-simulated oral sex from a background dancer.

It would be diplomatic to say that Doja maintains a distant relationship with her fans, who call themselves kittenz, though their fave does not sanction this moniker. Doja has told those who engage in parasocial relationships with the idea of her to “get off your phone and get a job” and “rethink everything” about their lives. Such boundary-setting has cost her some Instagram followers – around 300,000, to be exact, after going off on them in a social media tirade – but she could care less. “I feel free,” she wrote in an Instagram story after the snafu last year.

So it’s not surprising that Doja kept the stage banter to a minimum; about an hour in, she allowed a cursory, but seemingly genuine, “Thank you everyone.” That was about it. Still, Doja didn’t need to give us the cliched “it’s always been a dream to perform on this stage” monologue to show a deep respect for her audience. She did so by putting on a tour de force of a set, one that merged her musical talents with a clear knack for spectacle. I suspect it will become a staple on best-of-Coachella lists for years to come.

Doja first appeared by popping up on the stage’s extended catwalk, opening the night further back in the crowd, so those of us who hadn’t made it to the pit got a good look at her, too. She first wore an all-white hazmat suit. I thought it was a little Patrick Bateman; the girl next to me remarked that Doja looked like “a whole-ass sperm”.

Whatever the inspiration, she took that off pretty quickly, revealing extra-long blonde hair that went well past her butt, and a matching tunic also made of hair. Her background dancers matched in their own full hair suits, and when paired with their syncopated moves, the vibe was a little Bob Fosse meets Fraggle Rock. The South African a capella group The Joy encircled Doja during Shutcho, a diss track for haters that the group turned into a melodic, choir-like crescendo.

woman with long blonde hair and a large white top holds a microphone

Though Doja is a very 2020s pop star, terminally online and well-versed in the meme ecosystem, she didn’t rely on many gimmicks to make it through her set. The stage design was sparse and industrial. Her numerous outfit changes kept the same off-white palette, very Virgil Abloh-esque aesthetic: sculptural, sleek, architectural. My favorite look was a shaggy bikini set by Entire Studios that could have been a reference to Jane Fonda as Barbarella, or just a sartorial nod to the concept of merkins.

Doja tapped A$AP Rocky, 21 Savage and a giant recreation of a T-Rex fossil for guest stars. During her penultimate song, Paint the Town Red, which samples Dionne Warwick’s 1963 hit Walk on By, I wondered for a moment if Doja was about to make my entire life and bring out the octogenarian legend herself. Instead, she did perhaps the opposite of that and rolled around in a sapphic mud pit with her background dancers for the finale, Wet Vagina.

Though Doja found mainstream success in the pop arena with early pandemic groovers like Kiss Me More and Say So, her Coachella set stuck to rap. Understandably, much of it came from her latest release, last year’s Scarlet. She described the album as a“masculine” response to her desire of moving away from pop princess-dom.

This meant that the fans who were there for Doja’s more accessible fare may have been disappointed by the exclusion of those songs – when the set ended, many mulled around the stage as if they were sure she’d come back rearing into Say So. (Again, she didn’t.)

But to me, it didn’t matter: Doja followed her gut, performed the songs she felt represented her best, all presented in an energetic, top-of-game triumph. For all the endless chatter this year about a lackluster lineup, Doja proved she’s worthy of a headline spot, so long as the people in charge – and, crucially, her fans – trust her to do it her own way.

Doja Cat Announces First Tour in 4 Years with Special Guests Ice Spice and Doechii — See the Dates

Announce shortly after the release of her new single "Attention," The Scarlet Tour kicks off in San Francisco on Halloween

Scott Dudelson/Getty

Get into Doja Cat 's upcoming tour, yuh.

On Friday, the Grammy winner announced The Scarlet Tour, her first North American arena tour and first overall string of official headlining concerts since 2019 — and special guests Ice Spice and Doechii are joining her on the road.

Given the dark and spooky aesthetic of her latest single "Attention," it's only fitting that The Scarlet Tour kicks off on Halloween (Oct. 31) in San Francisco. Doja Cat, 27, will then play shows in cities including Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, New York City, Boston, Detroit and more before wrapping on Dec. 13 in Chicago.

Mark Von Holden/Getty, Lester Cohen/Getty

Doechii, 24, will open for the "Say So" performer for about the first half of the tour, while Ice Spice, 23, will support her for the rest of the dates. It's a stacked lineup, as both rappers have experienced massive rises to fame over the past year. Doechii earned her first hits with "Persuasive" and "What It Is (Block Boy)," while Ice Spice has dominated the charts with "Princess Diana," "Boy's a Liar, Pt. 2" with PinkPantheress and "Karma" with Taylor Swift .

Presale tickets for The Scarlet Tour will become available starting June 28 for fans who register through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program before June 25 at 10 p.m. PT. Then, limited general tickets will go on sale on June 30 at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.

Doja Cat previously announced a tour in support of her 2019 album Hot Pink , but it was canceled due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She was also set to open for The Weeknd's After Hours Til Dawn Tour last year but pulled out due to necessary tonsil surgery , she revealed via Twitter in May 2022.

However, according to the lyrics of her latest single "Attention," it seems she exited the tour in favor of headlining her own shows. "I could've been an opener / I redirect the bookin'," she raps on the track, believed to be the first song from her next album, which she's been teasing.

"I’ve been reconnecting with the music that I was raised listening to; Erykah Badu , John Coltrane, Nineties hip hop…the music that influenced me as a kid. I think my new music will bring some of that inspiration forward," Doja Cat recently told reporters including PEOPLE at the Patrón El Cielo launch party in New York City.

Doja Cat announces massive 2023 North American tour with Ice Spice, Doechii

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rapper-singer Doja Cat — the Grammy Award winner , fashion muse, and creator of many TikTok hits — is set to embark on a 2023 North American tour this fall.

Doja Cat will be joined by song of the summer contender Ice Spice and up-and-coming rapper Doechii, as they open on select dates of her 24-date run. The Scarlet Tour kicks off on Halloween night in San Francisco and runs through December 13, with a final show scheduled in Chicago.

The tour will hit most major cities in the U.S. as well as Toronto.

The announcement arrives a week after Doja Cat released a new single, a fiery rap titled “Attention" that negotiates her relationship with online commentary from fans and critics alike.

Doja Cat first found mainstream fame when her 2018 single, “MOO!”, went viral. Since then, she's been nominated for many Grammys, including for her No. 1 single “Say So” and most recent album, 2021's “Planet Her.” In 2022, she won the Grammy for best pop duo performance for her collaboration with SZA, “Kiss Me More.”

In an effort to bypass bots and scalpers, The Scarlet Tour tickets will be available to fans if they register in advance at Ticketmaster through Sunday, June 25 at 10 p.m. Pacific. After that, some fans will receive a presale code. A limited number of tickets will become available to the public on Friday, June 30.

Doja Cat Bares All in See-Through Swimsuit

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Summer is just around the corner, and Doja Cat is bringing the heat with her new Instagram post.

The “Paint the Town Red” star share a series of snaps to the platform in which she’s seen kneeling poolside in a see-through white, thong swimsuit — with her chest and booty on full display. She paired the look with some sling-back white heels and captioned the steamy post with a simple ice cream emoji.

Doja followed up with another photo set in the same swimsuit, this time crawling along a surfboard. “IM TOO FAMOUUUUUUUSSSSSS,” she captioned the post, tagging photographer Jacob Webster.

See the photos here and here.

The 28-year-old superstar is fresh off a headlining gig at Coachella, and is gearing up for the overseas leg of her  Scarlet Tour . The “Say So” artist will also headline a couple of radio concerts, including Hot 97’s Summer Jam event, before heading to Europe for a handful of shows and festival sets in England, Amsterdam, Italy and more.

Her 2023 album Scarlet   debuted at No. 4  on the  Billboard 200 . Doja launched her  Scarlet  era in June with the release of  “Attention,”  which debuted and peaked at No. 31 on the  Billboard Hot 100 . The accompanying music video — which previewed the era’s overarching horror aesthetic — picked up six nominations at the  2023 MTV Video Music Awards , ultimately winning best art direction.  “Paint the Town Red,”  the record’s first radio single, soon followed with a catchy hook and a bouncy Dionne Warwick-sampling beat. The song became Doja’s  second  Hot 100 No. 1 — her first unaccompanied — becoming the  first hip-hop song  to reach the top of the ranking in 2023.
