Fichajes y bajas de los equipos World Tour para 2023

Hacemos un repaso de cómo se encuentra la situación para la próxima temporada, en cuanto a altas y bajas confirmadas, en los equipos de la máxima categoría..

Rodrigo Contreras sale campeón de la Clásica de Anapoima y alcanza su tercer título en la temporada 2024

Continuando con su racha ganadora en la temporada, Rodrigo Contreras (Nu Colombia) se consagró campeón de la Clásica de Anapoima 2024 , luego de mantener el liderato en la tercera y última fracción, una jornada montañosa de 123 kilómetros disputada este viernes por carreteras del departamento de Cundinamarca .

El excorredor del Astana , que alcanzó su tercer título de la temporada, mostró toda su categoría para llevarse dos etapas, que le sirvieron para subirse a lo más alto del podio, escoltado por Róbinson López (GW Erco Shimano) a 1:55 y por Sergio Luis Henao (Nu Colombia) a 2:08.

Al final de la carrera, el campeón manifestó su satisfacción por el triunfo final. “ Muy contento con este triunfo, era mi primera vez en Anapoima y quería tener este trofeo en mi palmarés . Llevamos toda una vida trabajando fuerte para alcanzar este momento. Los datos no mienten y la experiencia hace la diferencia. Seguimos muy motivados para lo que sigue”, dijo Contreras, quien este año ya ganó el Tour Colombia y la Vuelta al Tolima .

La victoria de la última etapa de la ronda cundinamarquesa se la llevó Jaider Muñoz (Team Sistecrédito) , quien fue el más rápido en la Plaza Bolívar. Sergio Luis Henao (Nu Colombia) terminó 2° y Sebastián Castaño (Team Sistecrédito) finalizó 3°.

La siguiente cita del calendario nacional se vivirá en Casanare y Meta del 21 al 28 de este mes, con la Vuelta de la Juventud , una carrera que promete grandes emociones, con el protagonismo de los mejores corredores del pelotón nacional en la categoría sub-23.

Así quedaron los colombianos en el Il Giro d’Abruzzo 2024; Santiago Umba el mejor escarabajo

Luego de cuatro días de competencia llegó a su fin la sexta edición de Il Giro d’Abruzzo , que contó con la participación de 8 escarabajos . La jornada final de 173 kilómetros  transcurrió entre Montorio al Vomano y L’Aquila .

Tras el último parcial de la nobel carrera italiana, el pedalista boyacense Santiago Umba (Astana Qazaqstan Team) terminó como el mejor colombiano en la general, en la casilla 26° a 12:26 de su compañero el kazajo Alexey Lutsenko , campeón de la prueba.

A continuación, la Revista Mundo Ciclístico les presenta la clasificación general final de los seis pedalistas nacionales que concluyeron la carrera europea. Hernán Aguirre y Jonathan Guatibonza no finalizaro.

Il Giro d’Abruzzo 2024 – Clasificación General de los Colombianos

Lenny Martínez sale victorioso en la clásica francesa Grand Besançon Doubs con Jefferson Cepeda 6°

Tras una gran batalla montañosa, Lenny Martínez (Groupama – FDJ) salió victorioso en la clásica francesa Grand Besançon Doubs 2024 , que no contó con participación colombiana. El escalador galo fue el más fuerte en la última subida a Montfaucon y logró quedarse con el triunfo luego de recorrer 171,3 kilómetros .

El podio de la carrera de un día, lo completaron el monegasco Victor Langelotti y el francés David Gaudu (Groupama – FDJ) , quienes terminaron 2° y 3, respectivamente. Mientras que el ecuatoriano Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda (Caja Rural-Seguros-RGA) cumplió otra destacada actuación, terminando en el 6° puesto tras su top 5 en la Flecha Brabanzona .

“Ataqué un poco antes que el año pasado. Me he preparado todos los años aquí en esta colina la conozco muy bien. Es increíble ganar, sobre todo por lo que significa para el equipo”, dijo Martinez.

La cuarta edición de la clásica francesa, que contó la participación de los cuatro WorldTeams franceses , estuvo plagada de montaña con un recorrido desafiante entre Besançon y Montfaucon , que tuvo como gran atractivo la subida a Antenne Montfaucon (4,2 kilómetros al 7,2 %) a pocos kilómetros de la meta.

La fuga del día la animaron Enekoitz Azparren (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Alan Jousseaume (TotalEnergies), Adne Holter (Uno-X Mobility), Maël Guégan (CIC U Nantes Atlantique), Théo Delacroix (St Michel – Mavic – Auber93) y Jérémy Leveau (Van Rysel – Roubaix), pero en la fase final todos fueron neutralizados por los favoritos.

2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow: All final results and medals - complete list

Glasgow hosted the inaugural mega multi-discipline World Championships from 3-13 August. Read on to discover all the pro medal winners from the event.

The UCI Cycling World Championships 2023 , which took place in Glasgow, Scotland from 3-13 August 2023, brought together all the main disciplines of the sport, excluding cyclo-cross.

A total of 13 World Championships were contested across seven disciplines including the Olympic disciplines of track cycling , road cycling , BMX freestyle and racing , and mountain bike . Several events offered Olympic quotas spots and ranking points for Paris 2024 .

The format will be replicated in the same location every four years, during the year preceding the Olympic Games.

CALENDARIO CARRETERA 2023 (a expensas de cambios de la UCI)

En esta reunión se aprobó la  Agenda 2030  de la Federación . Como continuación de la  Agenda 2022  , cuyos objetivos ya se han alcanzado casi en su totalidad, este nuevo documento constituirá la hoja de ruta de la UCI para los próximos ocho años. Los objetivos presentados en la Agenda 2030, que pretenden hacer del ciclismo el deporte del siglo XXI, hacerlo más inclusivo y desarrollar un estilo de vida en torno a la bicicleta, se basan en los siguientes ejes:

el desarrollo del ciclismo en todo el mundo y el fortalecimiento de su universalidad,

innovación y desarrollo de competiciones,

la consolidación de acciones de apoyo a las Federaciones Nacionales y el fortalecimiento de los programas solidarios de la UCI,

la promoción del ciclismo sostenible,

la protección de los deportistas y la garantía de la igualdad de oportunidades,la promoción de los valores olímpicos y la consolidación del buen gobierno de la UCI.

La Agenda 2030 se publicará en el sitio web de la UCI en nueve idiomas una vez que se haya presentado al próximo Congreso de la UCI, que se celebrará el 22 de septiembre de 2022 en Wollongong (Australia).

El Comité de Dirección de la UCI también aprobó el  Informe Financiero de la UCI de 2021  . Este informe muestra un resultado anual final mejor de lo esperado en el contexto de la pandemia de Covid-19, que asciende a 21,3 millones de francos suizos. Este resultado podría lograrse gracias a la implementación de un amplio plan de ahorro, una gestión prudente de las actividades, el buen desempeño de la cartera de inversiones de la UCI y la recepción de la participación de la UCI en los ingresos olímpicos tras la exitosa celebración de los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020 en 2021. Además, se cumple el objetivo de un umbral mínimo de reserva de 20 millones de francos suizos (excluyendo edificios y activos fijos) a partir de 2020 (monto actual: 38,2 millones de francos suizos). Las reservas disminuirán hasta el final del ciclo olímpico, pero se mantendrán por encima del umbral establecido.

Estas cifras muestran que la UCI se encuentra en una situación financiera saludable, a pesar de las dificultades experimentadas, lo que proporciona una base sólida para continuar desarrollando el ciclismo, asegurando los programas solidarios de la Federación, en particular para sus Federaciones Nacionales, y enfrentando nuevos vientos en contra con confianza.

El Informe Financiero UCI 2021 se publicará en el sitio web de la Federación a finales de junio junto con el Informe Anual UCI 2021 completo.

El Comité Directivo de la UCI también otorgó los siguientes  Campeonatos del Mundo UCI  :

Campeonatos del Mundo UCI Gravel 2022 y 2023

Las dos próximas ediciones del evento tendrán lugar en Italia, la primera en la región de Veneto en el noreste del país los días 8 y 9 de octubre de 2022, la segunda el 30 de septiembre y el 1 de octubre de 2023 en un lugar por confirmar. Las ciudades anfitrionas se anunciarán más adelante. Estos serán los primeros Campeonatos del Mundo UCI de gravel, una disciplina que este año ve la introducción de  la primera edición de la Serie Mundial de Gravel UCI  .

Campeonato Mundial de Esports de Ciclismo UCI 2023

El evento, organizado por Zwift, tendrá lugar en la segunda quincena de febrero de 2023 (fecha exacta por confirmar). La ruta virtual estará abierta a suscriptores de la plataforma Zwift. Las competiciones clasificatorias tendrán lugar en noviembre de 2022.

En cuanto a las fechas del  Campeonato del Mundo de Países Emergentes de Ciclismo de la UCI de 2024  , adjudicado a El Cairo (Egipto) en la reunión del Comité Directivo de la UCI en septiembre de 2021, estas han sido confirmadas: el evento tendrá lugar del 2 al 10 de marzo de 2024. Más información sobre el evento será comunicado en su momento.

Aún en lo que respecta a los eventos, el Comité Directivo de la UCI aprobó los siguientes  calendarios:

Tour Mundial Femenino UCI 2023

Cuatro nuevos eventos se unirán a este calendario: el Women’s Santos Tour Down Under (que tenía el estatus de UCI ProSeries en 2020 y luego se canceló en 2021 debido a la pandemia de Covid-19), el UAE Tour (nuevo evento que se suma a la competencia masculina existente), el Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (que pasa del estado UCI ProSeries al estado UCI Women’s WorldTour) y el Tour de Suisse (que también pasa del estado UCI ProSeries al estado UCI Women’s WorldTour).

Tour Mundial UCI 2023

Las pruebas de este calendario, previamente aprobadas por el Consejo de Ciclismo Profesional en su reunión del 2 de junio de 2022, quedan inscritas para el ciclo 2023-2025 sujetas al éxito de la organización de cada edición de las carreras correspondientes.

El Calendario Internacional de Pista UCI 2022-2023 incluye la  Liga de Campeones de Ciclismo en Pista UCI  , que se disputará este año por segunda vez después de una exitosa edición de 2021 a pesar de la cancelación de varias rondas en el contexto de la pandemia de Covid-19.

Liga de Campeones de Ciclismo en Pista UCI 2022:

Ronda 1: Palma de Mallorca (España), 12 de noviembre

Ronda 2: Berlín (Alemania), 19 de noviembre

Ronda 3: Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (Francia), 26 de noviembre

Ronda 4: Londres (Gran Bretaña), 2 de diciembre

Final: Londres (Gran Bretaña), 3 de diciembre

Con respecto al UCI WorldTour 2022 y al UCI Women’s WorldTour, el Comité de Dirección de la UCI ha tomado nota de la cancelación de dos carreras que estaban programadas para realizarse en China al final de la temporada 2022. Estas cancelaciones se refieren al evento UCI WorldTour  Gree-Tour de Guangxi,  que estaba programado del 13 al 18 de octubre, así como a la carrera UCI Women’s WorldTour Race  Tour de Guangxi . (18 de octubre). Estas cancelaciones obedecen a decisiones tomadas por los organizadores debido a las medidas en la lucha contra la pandemia de Covid-19 que siguen vigentes. Por lo tanto, el UCI WorldTour 2022 concluirá el 8 de octubre con Il Lombardia (Italia), mientras que el UCI Women’s WorldTour 2022 terminará el 15 de octubre, último día del Tour de la isla de Chongming (China). En línea con la temporada UCI WorldTour aprobada en junio de 2021, el Comité Directivo de la UCI confirmó que la fecha de finalización de la temporada de ruta 2022 sigue siendo el 18 de octubre. Esta es la fecha de la última jornada del Tour de Langkawi (UCI ProSeries), que se disputará en Malasia del 11 al 18 de octubre.

En la edición 2022 del evento UCI Women’s WorldTour  RideLondon Classique (Gran Bretaña), los organizadores del evento no brindaron la cobertura televisiva en vivo requerida de cada etapa, sino solo de la última etapa. Esto constituye una infracción del Reglamento UCI y de las especificaciones que todo organizador del UCI Women’s WorldTour está obligado a respetar. También es, ante todo, una falta de respeto inaceptable hacia los equipos y corredores que participan en la competición. Por este motivo, el Comité Directivo de la UCI ha tomado la decisión de condicionar la inscripción de la prueba en el calendario UCI Women’s WorldTour para la temporada 2023 a la presentación de compromisos firmes relativos a la retransmisión televisiva en directo de todas las etapas. Mientras tanto, el Comité de Dirección ha tomado la decisión de registrar el RideLondon Classique en la clase UCI ProSeries para la temporada 2023. Para la UCI, La cobertura televisiva diaria en vivo de los eventos UCI Women’s WorldTour, que incluyen las carreras más prestigiosas del ciclismo de ruta profesional femenino, es fundamental para garantizar su desarrollo internacional continuo. La decisión final sobre el estado de esta carrera se tomará en la reunión del Comité Directivo de la UCI en septiembre.

El Comité Directivo de la UCI ha sido informado por el Presidente del estado actual de las discusiones entre ciertas partes interesadas en el ciclismo de ruta profesional y la UCI sobre el establecimiento de una  reforma profunda del ciclismo profesional masculino y femenino  . La UCI acoge con satisfacción el hecho de que los tres principales organizadores y los propietarios de equipos masculinos y femeninos compartan su convicción de que la organización del ciclismo de ruta debe evolucionar.

Se ha elogiado la calidad de las discusiones mantenidas, y las partes son conscientes de la necesidad de trabajar juntas para promover el ciclismo, un deporte que ofrece grandes oportunidades de desarrollo.

Las partes seguirán reuniéndose para desarrollar una visión común. Esta visión se presentará a todas las partes interesadas (equipos, ciclistas, organizadores y Federaciones Nacionales) para construir juntos el ciclismo de ruta y hacerlo más fuerte que nunca.

La UCI se comunicará más una vez que se haya finalizado una visión común detallada.

Siempre en lo que respecta al deporte, tras el éxito de la  prueba de relevos por equipos en el Campeonato del Mundo de Ciclocross UCI 2022  en Fayetteville (EE. UU.), el Comité Directivo de la UCI ha decidido integrar este nuevo relevo en el programa de futuras ediciones del evento, comenzando con el Campeonato del Mundo UCI de Ciclocross 2023 que se disputará del 3 al 5 de febrero en Hoogerheide (Países Bajos). El formato de carrera se basará en el relevo por equipos muy popular en el Campeonato Mundial de Bicicleta de Montaña UCI.

En marzo de 2020, la UCI publicó las reglas que rigen la participación de  atletas transgénero  en eventos del Calendario Internacional UCI en la categoría correspondiente a su nueva identidad de género. Aunque estas reglas son más estrictas y restrictivas que las publicadas por el Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI) en 2015, la UCI ha comenzado a considerar su ajuste tras la publicación de nuevos estudios científicos en 2020 y 2021.

El principio de elegibilidad de atletas transgénero (en particular atletas femeninas, es decir, aquellas que han hecho una transición de hombre a mujer) se basa en la reversibilidad bajo niveles bajos de testosterona en sangre (el nivel comúnmente observado en atletas «mujeres nacidas») de las habilidades fisiológicas que determinan el rendimiento deportivo, y sobre el tiempo necesario para lograr esta reversibilidad.

Las últimas publicaciones científicas demuestran claramente que el retorno de los marcadores de capacidad de resistencia al «nivel femenino» se produce en un plazo de seis a ocho meses con niveles bajos de testosterona en sangre, mientras que las esperadas adaptaciones en masa muscular y fuerza/potencia muscular tardan mucho más (dos años como mínimo según a un estudio reciente). Dado el importante papel que juegan la fuerza y ​​la potencia muscular en el rendimiento ciclista, la UCI ha decidido aumentar el período de transición con niveles bajos de testosterona de 12 a 24 meses. Además, la UCI ha decidido rebajar el nivel máximo permitido de testosterona en plasma (actualmente 5 nmol/L) a 2,5 nmol/L. Este valor corresponde al nivel máximo de testosterona encontrado en el 99,99% de la población femenina.

Este ajuste de las reglas de elegibilidad de la UCI se basa en el estado del conocimiento científico publicado hasta la fecha en esta área y tiene como objetivo promover la integración de los atletas transgénero en el deporte competitivo, manteniendo la equidad, la igualdad de oportunidades y la seguridad de las competiciones. Las nuevas reglas entrarán en vigor el 1 de julio. Pueden cambiar en el futuro a medida que evolucione el conocimiento científico.

Además, la UCI prevé conversaciones con otras Federaciones Internacionales sobre la posibilidad de apoyar un programa de investigación cuyo objetivo sería estudiar la evolución del rendimiento físico de atletas altamente entrenados bajo tratamiento hormonal de transición.

Se discutió  la situación de la comunidad ciclista ucraniana  en relación con la invasión rusa de Ucrania. El Comité Directivo de la UCI, que había tomado una serie de  fuertes medidas contra Rusia a principios de marzo, acordó continuar siguiendo el desarrollo de la situación y mantenerse en línea con las decisiones tomadas por el COI. Como recordatorio, desde el comienzo de la guerra en Ucrania en febrero, la UCI ha trabajado en estrecha colaboración con el presidente del Comité Olímpico Nacional de Ucrania y miembro del COI Sergey Bubka, así como con la Unión Ciclista Europea (Union Européenne de Cyclisme – UEC) , presidida por D. Enrico Della Casa. Juntos, ayudaron a los ciclistas ucranianos a su llegada a Suiza, donde la Federación Nacional Suiza, Swiss Cycling, acogió a la mayoría de los atletas. Se ha creado en la UCI una unidad de apoyo que brinda asistencia a los atletas de toda Europa y está coordinada por la Sra. Tetiana Dziadevych, Secretaria General de la Federación Ucraniana de Ciclismo, bajo los auspicios del Departamento de Relaciones Internacionales de la UCI. La UCI actúa como punto de entrada único para la gestión de la situación del ciclismo en Ucrania.

Finalmente, los miembros del Comité Directivo de la UCI acogieron con beneplácito el  lanzamiento de la marca »  UCI Cycling Integrity  » a principios de mayo. «UCI Cycling Integrity» es un programa que reúne todas las acciones de la UCI dedicadas a promover la integridad en el ciclismo a todos los niveles (atletas, séquito y competiciones). Estas acciones se basan en el Código Ético de la UCI, sus acciones preventivas, sus programas educativos y sus campañas de información y sensibilización. Los objetivos de «Integridad ciclista UCI» se basan en tres ejes: «Ciclismo limpio» (lucha contra el dopaje), «Ciclismo seguro» (lucha contra el acoso y otros abusos) y «Ciclismo justo» (lucha contra el fraude tecnológico y otras manipulaciones) .

Al final de los tres días de reunión, el  presidente de la UCI, David Lappartient  , declaró:

“La aprobación de la Agenda 2030 como continuación de la Agenda 2022, cuyos objetivos se han alcanzado casi en su totalidad, marca el inicio de una nueva era de progreso para el ciclismo. Dentro de este nuevo marco, continuaremos los esfuerzos que ya se están realizando y pondremos aún más énfasis en todas las iniciativas que colocarán cada vez más a la bicicleta en el centro de la transformación positiva de nuestras sociedades en un contexto que es a la vez desafiante y rico en oportunidades para la futuro. Como muestra nuestro Informe Anual 2021, la UCI, junto con la comunidad ciclista, se encuentra en una situación, particularmente financiera, que le permite avanzar en esta dirección.

«Tras el lanzamiento de una Serie Mundial UCI, la adjudicación de las dos primeras ediciones de los Campeonatos del Mundo UCI Gravel es un paso importante en el desarrollo de una disciplina en rápido crecimiento que responde al deseo de una parte cada vez mayor de la población de obtener Este nuevo evento demuestra que el ciclismo nunca deja de evolucionar, como lo demuestra el ciclismo de pista, del que acabamos de confirmar el calendario de la UCI Track Champions League 2022, para asegurarse de estar a la vanguardia de las expectativas de los ciclistas, ya sean competidores o no.

La próxima reunión del Comité Directivo de la UCI se llevará a cabo en Wollongong (Australia) del 19 al 21 de septiembre durante los Campeonatos del Mundo de Ruta UCI 2022.

UCI World Tour Points Race

The 2023 season is done and the team rankings have been published. You can see which teams scored big and it’s also the first season of a three-year promotion-relegation contest.

Here’s the chart of the top-25 team rankings for 2023 with WorldTeams in blue and second-tier ProTeams in red. You can see UAE topped the table, outsprinting Jumbo-Visma after they broke away from the rest. But we’re here today to look at the promotion and relegation story and the red line shows the top-18 teams.

A quick reminder of the rules. Team rankings are based on the total of the UCI points scored in the 2023 season by each team’s 20 best riders. Promotion and relegation is decided by the total of points of each team across the 2023, 2024 and 2025 seasons with the top-18 teams meeting the sporting criteria for a World Tour licence for the following three seasons. Assuming the rules don’t change .

Lotto-Dstny are off to a roaring start, finishing the team rankings in ninth place with over 14,000 points. Arnaud De Lie is their big points scorer with 2,891 points and Florian Vermeersch, Maxim Van Gils and Andreas Kron (pictured) each scoring over 1,000 points. This trio had one win between them: they scored big but didn’t win much which can help explain how the team managed to do so well on the rankings. De Lie got 10 wins this year including his first World Tour in the GP de Québec and continues his progress, he’s likely to race more World Tour races which could mean fewer points for the team next year, quality instead of quantity.

Israel-PremierTech had a decent season with 10,000 points thanks to Michael Woods, Corbin Strong and Derek Gee all scoring well over 1,000 points each, helping the team finish above four World Tour squads. Woods hit the quality jackpot for the team with a Tour de France stage win on the Puy-de-Dôme but like Lotto-Dstny their hustling for points by placing on smaller races. They’re already strong on sprinters and have made significant signings in Ethan Vernon, Hugo Hoffstetter and Pascal Ackermann who can all score big.

Uno-X lead the other candidates with 6,500 points with Tobias Halland Johannessen as their lead scorer. They go into 2024 with stronger squad having hired Magnus Cort and Andreas Leknessund and could hope to overtake Arkéa here but going beyond this to overhaul the 18th team is harder going.

Uno-X can plug on hoping others crack. We almost saw the World Tour down to 17 teams and so if any existing teams don’t make it to 2026 the Norwegians can get promotion. Here there are already questions over Soudal-Quickstep given we know the main shareholder was willing to drop the team, its lead sponsor too. If star rider Remco Evenepoel leaves after 2024 the sponsorship proposal isn’t worth as much either. Let’s not get too far ahead of matters but it’s an example of how existing teams are brittle and in more ordinary situations you can see some teams and sense their sponsorship deals are up and that renewal for 2026 and beyond is tough (NB today’s the day when we hear which teams have submitted enough paperwork to get a licence for 2024).

Indeed just existing as a team should be sufficient as more than ever we have an 18 + 4 system where a handful of teams outside the World Tour act as quasi World Tour teams with automatic invites to the Tour de France and a de facto equivalent. Here we’re likely to see Tudor and Q36.5 take on Total Energies.

Arkéa-Samsic and Astana are firm relegation candidates already given a 2,000 point shortfall on the rest. Astana have set about trying to remedy this by recruiting the likes of Anton Charmig, Davide Ballerini, Henok Mulubrhan, Ide Schelling and Lorenzo Fortunato who probably won’t win big or often can place well throughout the season and score, much as Simone Velasco has done for them. They need Alexey Lutsenko back at his best. Mark Cavendish has been their third best scorer this year and can contribute too, Tour win or not.

Arkéa have B&B Hotels as a co-sponsor for next yearbut haven’t hurried into the rider market and this could be risky, Arnaud Démare as a mid-season signing helps but they’ve lost their top scorer Warren Barguil. Luca Mozzato can score and one salvation could be Kévin Vauquelin who can climb well and time trial and so place on GC in smaller stage races but we’re into “stars aligning” scenarios here as a low score in 2023 and no game-changing signings means 2024 makes things harder, although Florian Sénéchal and Vincenzo Albanese could be useful. There will be times to decide between sending their best riders to the World Tour calendar reserving them to snipe results in smaller races. But to make the point again, they can keep plugging away in the hope other teams don’t make it to 2026.

Thank you, I have been hoping for this update. As for Arkéa, I would have thought that Démare will very easily compensate for the loss of Barguil in terms of points. Has Démare not always been a big points scorer, with good results in both GT stages and French one-day races within reach for him? I would assume that Arkéa will try to capitalise on this when targeting races.

Démare has been a big scorer in the past but alternating between good and bad years. He’s had a relatively bad one this time, in part because he was dropped from the Tour and switched teams so he and the team will hope for a good year in 2024. But easier said than done, he’s 32 now and Cavendish aside, not many sprinters keep going long into their 30s. It’ll be interesting to see his race programme, as the team’s big rider does he want the World Tour races or is he going to take wins in the Coupe de France and some the 1.1 level races.

But for Arkéa I think the problem is more one of arithmetic, even with a golden year for Démare the team is still behind from this season and they’ve lost Barguil who got them 750 points so they’ve got a challenge ahead.

OK, I see your point, thanks. I wouldn’t assume that Mozzato and Vauquelin are at the end of their very positive development, but without new and established recruits, it seems hard for them to bridge such a gap.

No mention of AG2R? They look to be the worst placed, hovering at the bottom with no new signings. Felix Gall can’t do it all.

They had a bad season in their own words. But still got a 2,000 point cushion and the likes of O’Connor, Cosnefroy should do better. Also they’ve not announced any signings but they have been shopping, Sam Bennett should be a useful addition if he can feel at home.

Jayco finished up a little better than I was expecting given a lacklustre year. Hope they can climb a couple of spots next year with the extra sprinter and Plapp.

“Here we’re likely to see Tudor and Q36.5 take on Total Energies.” Feel to me like Tudor has the upper hand here, having signed Dainese, Trentin and Storer. Total Energies must have a lot of budget freed up with Sagan retiring, but they haven’t used it to sign any big names.

Yes, the Total boss – the oil major – said the other day that if Alaphilippe became available in the wake of Quick Step vanishing he’d be willing to hire him so there’s money for the right signing but he wants a star, someone for the public to cheer in July, and not some points rustler. But some of Sagan budget came from Specialized who stop supplying the team.

I wonder if TE can’t make a deal with Soudal about Alaphilippe similar to the Roglic or Démare deal. Lefevre has made it clear he isn’t too happy about Alaphilippe’s performance and TE probably still are willing to pay at least close to his Soudal salary.

It could suit all sides although it’d be amusing after Lefevere has been waving Evenepoel’s contract at him, “a contract’s a contract Remco”… then agreeing to tear up Alaphilippe’s deal in order to save money and release a rider who might feel happier elsewhere.

DSM must hope the youngsters and Jakobsen start getting some big results next year. Lotto D’s success (sandwiched between Alpecin & Bora) is remarkable for a Pro-team. I can understand De Lie wanting to do a GT and with Ewan’s departure it seems likely but it seems he’s more a classics rider then an outright pure speed sprinter. Visma’s points tally next year will probably take a hit with Roglic’s departure, and despite all the merger/dissolution talk QS still beat Ineos who seem destined to be a second tier team for the forseeable future unless Sir Jim buys a big star or two.

Ineos look down but they’ve been lower in the rankings, eg 6th in 2019. The surprise for them is that Ganna is their top scorer helped by him having a go in the sprints, then Pidcock. Thomas and Rodriguez come next.

Quite a few injury problems this year.

You are going to look 2nd tier if you don’t have a Pogacar or Vingegarrd on your roster. Some of their young signings needs a bit more time to mature as well. Not everyone came out of the box ready like Remco (and even him struggled to find a footing in GT last year). Rodriguez may progress further next year.

They also arguably have the next best thing to WVA in Pidcock who was hampered quite a bit by injury this year. Though I think going for GT GC is a bit of a silly endeavour for him. Should have emulated WVA hunting stages and being a super dom (and maybe go for the Green).

I’m surprised to read Cavendish is Astana’s third best point scorer, given he’s only had one win all season & can’t have scored a single point since the beginning of July. It doesn’t say much for the rest of the team’s results that only two others (Lutsenko presumably being one) have managed to outscore him.

Lutsenko is their best scorer with Velasco next. Cavendish got 850 points, the Giro win but also with more top-10s in the Giro, Tour and Scheldeprijs etc, it’s helpful and obviously the big story is really the Rome triumph and the Tour sprints, the points angle was oblique. Bol comes next on 450 or so. They’re shaking things up a bit for next year but the big budget days are over, even Vinokourov was saying that flashing the cash is not the Kazakh way as in there’s even a cultural change.

Thanks. I tried looking up various possible riders on PCS but couldn’t find anyone with a decent amount of points. I didn’t think of Velasco as a possibility. As a rule (2.1.001) any race after the final World Tour event of the season marks the start of the next season. It’s a bit unusual as we have the Japan Cup, Guanxi, Vendée etc one weekend and then the 2024 season starts the next weekend, only for nothing to happen until well into January.

This is kind of wild. Is there a specific reason for not just using a Jan-Feb year, like any normal person would expect? It’s not like HongKong or Pan America are out of this world and wouldn’t celebrate the new year at 31.12./1.1. Makes no sense to me at all.

I imagine they want the season to end in a flourish and the Tour of Guangxi, if we trace the origins of this race it was a big deal for the UCI and the Velon teams so it has been given special status, plus the Hong Kong race had one WorldTeam and one ProTeam only, it’s not the season decider either.

If they are going to stick to that rule, wouldn’t it then make sense to have an official ‘off-season’, so that for instance no UCI races take place for a month after the last WT race? create a bit of separation

Coming off all the spectacular racing that defined the 2023 Tour de France Femmes, we are glad to be leaning into the excitement of the 2023 UCI World Championships, which kick off on August 3rd in Glasgow, Scotland. This year’s event is set to make history, as for the first time ever, all cycling disciplines will be presented together in what is being hailed as a ‘super event’.

A unified celebration of cycling

The 2023 UCI World Championships will be a momentous occasion for men’s and women’s cycling as all disciplines come together to compete for their world titles. With 13 world championships across seven disciplines, Glasgow will be buzzing with the action and drama that only the pinnacle of cycling competitions can provide. More than 200 rainbow jerseys, symbolising the title of world champion, will be awarded across these various events, highlighting the diversity and inclusivity of the sport.

Road cycling: A lot at stake

One of the most popular and anticipated disciplines in the UCI World Championships is road cycling. From August 5th to 13th, the world’s top road cyclists will vie for five elite world titles in Glasgow. The events include the men’s and women’s road races, men’s and women’s individual time trials, and the team time trial mixed relay.

All eyes will be on Dutch legend Annemiek van Vleuten, who will be looking to cap off her remarkable career with a stellar performance at the World Championships. Despite a slightly underwhelming performance at the Tour de France Femmes, van Vleuten has had a strong closing season, with victories at La Vuelta Femenina and the Giro Donne.

Competing alongside van Vleuten will be decorated veterans such as Marianne Vos and reigning European road race champion Lorena Wiebes. Demi Vollering, fresh off her Tour de France Femmes win, will also be a strong contender. Meanwhile, Belgian Lotte Kopecky, defending elimination race world champion on the track, will be among those hoping to deny van Vleuten a glorious swansong.

The women’s road race will commence west of Glasgow in Loch Lomond and merge with the men’s route near Crow Road, covering a total distance of 154.1km. After 60km, the field will enter Glasgow, where the women will complete six laps of a 14.3km city circuit. The time trials will start and finish in Stirling, featuring a short but steep climb up to Stirling Castle. The women’s time trial course is 36.2km long, while the men’s is 47.8km.

Mountain biking: Thrilling Cross-Country action

In the picturesque Glentress Forest, mountain biking enthusiasts will witness a week of thrilling cross-country action from August 6th to 12th. The mountain bike cross-country events include the short track, e-mountain bike cross-country, team relay, and Olympic races for juniors, U23s, and elites.

Defending UCI World Champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot faces tough competition, with numerous riders capable of winning the title. Puck Pieterse of the Netherlands has been in superb form, winning three of the four 2023 UCI World Cup races and becoming the European Champion. Frenchwoman Loana Lecomte, who won the Lenzerheide round of the 2023 UCI World Cup, is also a strong contender.

Other riders to watch include Austria’s Laura Stigger and Mona Mitterwallner, Switzerland’s Jolanda Neff and Alessandra Keller, and British rider Evie Richards, the 2021 UCI World Champion.

Track cycling: An electric atmosphere

From August 3rd to 9th, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome will be the battleground for track cycling’s elite events. Wildly spirited racing is guaranteed, with the host nation Great Britain expected to shine in the track cycling powerhouse.

In the sprint events, Germany’s Lea Friedrich will seek to regain her sprint world title from Mathilde Gros. The formidable German team, including Emma Hinze, will aim to sweep the women’s sprint races.

Britain’s Katie Archibald will lead the home team in the track endurance events, fresh off her three golds at the February European Championships. American Jennifer Valente, the reigning world and Olympic omnium champion, will be a strong competitor alongside Chloe Dygert, who has multiple individual and team world titles to her name.

BMX: Dynamic freestyling on Glasgow green

La volta ciclista a catalunya seguirá en el exclusivo grupo de las pruebas ciclistas internacionales más importantes del mundo, una vez la unión ciclista internacional (uci) ha informado que su solicitud para el periodo 2023-2025 ha sido aceptada.

La Volta Ciclista a Catalunya seguirá en el exclusivo grupo de las pruebas ciclistas internacionales más importantes del mundo, una vez la Unión Ciclista Internacional (UCI) ha informado que su solicitud para el periodo 2023-2025 ha sido aceptada.

Además, las fechas para la edición 102 de la carrera del año 2023 también han sido confirmadas y publicadas, y serán la última semana completa de marzo: Del 20 al 26 de marzo de 2023.

La entidad organizadora, Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Associació Esportiva , se mantiene así entre la élite de las mejores pruebas del mundo y seguirá reuniendo en los próximos años los mejores equipos y ciclistas del mundo por el territorio catalán.

“Estamos muy satisfechos de seguir formando parte del calendario UCI World Tour para el periodo 2023 – 2025. 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships: full schedule unveiled

The schedule was designed by the UCI, the Organising Committee of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, host cities and key stakeholders. The non-stop action will include competition in at least three disciplines every day, with UCI World Champions also crowned on all 11 days.

In a first for a UCI World Championships, the Women Elite road race will bring the curtain down on the competitions: on Sunday, 13 August. The Men Elite road race will take place on Sunday 6 August. In addition to championing female cyclists, the decision to stage the Men Elite road race on the opening weekend and the Women Elite road race on the closing day was taken to ensure the best possible alignment with the UCI Road International Calendar, in particular with respect to their respective Tours de France.

The opening weekend of the Championships (5-6 August) will include action in Glasgow, Fort William and across Scotland. The Men Elite road race will take place in the stunning scenery of central Scotland while the Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow will host track finals each day. Fans will be able to witness the fast and exhilarating mountain bike downhill competitions against the majestic backdrop of the Nevis Range.

At the other end of the country, Glentress Forest in the Tweed Valley will host tough endurance racing with the mountain bike cross-country marathon.

El francés Lenny Martínez (Groupama) se impuso en solitario tras una demostración de poderío en la 4ª edición de la Clásica Grand Besançon Doubs disputada entre Besançon y Montfaucon con un recorrido de 171.3 kilómetros. Martínez, de abuelo español , nacido en Cannes hace 20 años, tiró de clase para anular en primera persona la fuga que amenazaba con llegar a meta, ponerse en cabeza y alzarse con la tercera victoria de la temporada, tras las logradas en la Clasica de Var y el Trofeo Laigueglia.

La promesa del ciclismo galo, quien llegó a vestir de líder dos días en la Vuelta 2023 , levantó los brazos después de resistir un ataque dentro del último kilómetro del ciclista monegasco del Burgos BH Victor Langellotti, quien finalmente fue segundo por detrás de Martínez , quien paró el cronómetro en 4h.09.56. Otro corredor francés, del Groupama, como el vencedor, se clasificó en tercera posición, en un día próspero para el equipo.

La prueba tuvo protagonismo del guipuzcoano Enekoitz Azparren (Euskaltel Euskadi) , quien se metió en la escapada inicial, y que estuvo de llegar a buen puerto de no ser por la reacción de Lenny Martínez en los últimos kms. Más de 6.50 minutos llegaron a tener los escapados, a 90 de meta, justo antes de afrontar la parte más complicada del recorrido , pero el Groupama y Decathlon se encargaron de echar abajo el proyecto Los franceses Josseaume y Delacroix resistieron en el sexteto de cabeza ante la persecución del pelotón, pero las Cotas d’Epeugney (4.6 km al 3.4%) y de La Malate (3,3 km al 9,4), pasaron factura.

El último superviviente fue Holder, el noruego del Uno X, quien parecía tener opciones de llegar a meta. La llegada en alto asfixió la ilusión del nórdico, coincidiendo con un ataque en el grupo principal de Lenny Martínez a unos 4 km de meta. Martínez se fue a por Holder, le rebasó y quedo al frente subiendo a buen ritmo. La sorpresa fue que se presentó el monegasco Langellotti con intenciones ambiciosas. Tras unos metros juntos, y le meta cerca, Lenny Martínez lanzó un corto pero explosivo ataque para imponerse. Martínez sucede en el palmarés a su compatriota Victor Lafay, ganador en 2023.
