Error message on my account

There is an error message on the One Click Delay Repay part on my app. It says I need to refresh as the transactions have failed to load. I have done this and also deleted and reinstalled the app but the message is still the same. I have messaged LNER and would like tech support to help but no one seems interested and just keep saying we have not been informed there is a problem on the app. The whole point in me having the app is for convenience and I don’t want to have to manually apply every time I have to ask for a refund. I just want to be able to use the One Click Delay Repay as I have enabled it.

Developer Response ,

Hi Diane, sorry to hear about this. You should have been listened to when you reported the concern. We *have* been informed there's a problem on the app if you've taken the time to tell us there is! Your expectations of the app are correct, it's there for convenience. I'll pass this on to the team and hopefully they'll be in touch soon.
Everyone has their own app these days, but I use this one as I make a journey with them often enough. It's quick & easy to book, & handy to be able to see your tickets straight away, so no faffing with ticket collections, downloading stuff from emails, printing stuff, etc. Would be better if you could look up 2 journeys at the same time, in different 'tabs' or something. For example, I usually book a train from London to up north, but from my local train station I don't book it so I can keep my plans flexible, but it would be handy to see what time the trains are & if I can make a connection. If I put the full journey in from my station to up north, sometimes if just shows the ones with the best connection times, but if you wanna go for a particular time train from London, you have to do a separate journey from your local station to London to check what would get in in time, & then go back to the main journey.

Straightforward

Does what you need it to; simple enough to use. Perks scheme is good. App could be improved by the ability to look at trains *around* a certain date rather than on an exact date - some travel search engines allow this, so you can find the cheapest fare roughly when you want to go and fix your dates accordingly. e.g +/- 3 days of the date you put in. That would be helpful for many customers. At the moment you have to do multiple searches to get that info. Aside from this, a fairly good app.

East Coast Main Line train disruption continues

  • Published 11 December 2023

Damage to overhead lines

Delays and cancellations are continuing to hit train services on the East Coast Main Line, two days after overhead lines were damaged.

Rail company LNER said repairs have been completed between Peterborough and Grantham, but disruption is expected until the end of Monday.

Grand Central has cancelled some trains, while Lumo warned its services will be "extremely busy".

LNER urged travellers to check its website and social media for updates.

Engineers worked to repair damage

David Horne, LNER's managing director, said four lines were severely damaged on Saturday and Network Rail engineers had worked across the weekend to make repairs.

The company said disruption remained on its routes from London to Lincoln, Hull and Edinburgh.

LNER Passengers who were unable to travel over the weekend can either use their tickets for travel on Monday or Tuesday, or receive refunds.

Meanwhile, some Sunderland to London trains operated by Grand Central have been cancelled, but electric rail operator Lumo said it would run a full service between Edinburgh and London.

Dozens of passengers on a platform at Grantham station

Weekend delays affected Newcastle United fans travelling to a match at Tottenham, with hundreds of passengers stranded in Lincolnshire.

Brian Ging said people had been "left totally to fend for ourselves" as they waited at Grantham station for more than two hours.

Rail passengers left stranded by overhead power cable chaos for fourth time in a week

Hundreds of travellers on the East Coast Mainline on Sunday were unable to travel from London to the North and Scotland

Emergency crews work to restore service on the East Coast main line between Peterborough and Grantham

Rail passengers have been left stranded by overhead power cable chaos for the fourth time in a week .

Hundreds of people using the East Coast Mainline on Sunday were unable to travel directly between London and northern England or Scotland after electricity lines collapsed.

The outage knocked out all four rail lines on a 35-mile section between Grantham, Lincolnshire and Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, with passengers told to leave trains and get buses or taxis.

Videos showed hundreds of passengers left aimlessly stranded amid “pandemonium” at Grantham station as scores of cancellations and delays affected five major train operators: London North Eastern Railway (LNER), Lumo, East Midlands Railway, Grand Central and Hull Trains.

It was the fourth time in a week that power cables came down on England’s railway network after incidents at Manchester Piccadilly, Paddington station and Retford in Nottinghamshire.

The East Coast Mainline disruption was blamed on Storm Elin, which brought 45mph winds and heavy rain to the north-west of England on the weekend. It was followed by Storm Fergus which moved in from the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday.

Grantham station

LNER was among multiple rail operators to tell people “do not travel” on Sunday but its managing director David Horne warned that on Monday “there may be some limited service disruption due to trains and crews being out of position”.

One passenger, journalist Brian Ging, wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “For those of us with no choice, your arrangements have been disgraceful. No information at Grantham, chaos on the southbound platform. There are 2 buses , two! For hundreds of people.”

Pandemonium

Prof Nick Bailey, from the University of Westminster, wrote: “It would be good if someone could explain why so many overhead lines are being damaged on @‌LNER and @‌GWR in the last few days, is it weather or a design/installation fault or something else? All causing massive aggravation.”

A third passenger tweeted that there was “pandemonium at Grantham station where LNER has dumped everyone travelling south” with “no crowd control” and three-hour queues for buses to Peterborough to resume travelling to London by rail.

It comes after an overhead power line exploded at Manchester Piccadilly station during Storm Elin on Saturday, which was believed to have been caused by a falling tree, causing multiple train cancellations.

On Thursday, the singer James Blunt was among thousands of people trapped on cold, dark trains for hours after overhead wires came crashing down when a train struck an obstruction outside London Paddington station.

And last week LNER apologised for “severe disruption” when overhead power cables came down between Retford and Newark on the East Coast Mainline due to “excessive wear of one component”.

Football joke misses target

As LNER was bombarded with angry messages on social media, one staff member appeared to make light of the fact that many Newcastle United fans were blocked from travelling to Tottenham for a Premier League match that the northern side lost 4-1.

Mr Horne apologised after LNER’s Twitter account said in response to a customer: “To be fair, being a Tottenham fan – we’re saving you from seeing another loss...”

Helen Kelly, a director at OK! magazine, said she was “stranded at Grantham thanks to LNER” but pointed out that “they’ve known about these problems since last night yet there’s still 1000s waiting to get home and only one coach to help”. LNER responded that she should “check before you travel and follow the travel advice”.

A spokesman said there was “severe damage to the overhead lines” and “our teams have worked hard to keep customers who did travel on the move with onward transport where possible. We appreciate customers’ journeys have been affected and thank them for their understanding.”

In 2022, Network Rail, which is responsible for railway infrastructure, launched a “resilience taskforce” to help protect overhead lines from “extreme weather”.

Network Rail confirmed there had been “a significant amount of cancellations” on Sunday.

A spokesman said: “We’re really sorry for the ongoing disruption to train services on the East Coast Main Line today. Repairs to damaged overhead power lines near Grantham is well under way, and we hope to restore services tomorrow [Monday].

“There has been an unusual coincidence of power-line problems in various parts of the country over the past week or so. We do not believe they are related but extreme weather has certainly played its part.”

Europe's travel strikes: Flight and train disruption you can expect in March and April

Passengers look at check-in times for flights during a nationwide strike of airports ground staff, and check-in services at Rome's Fiumicino Airport.

Our guide is updated as soon as a new European strike is announced.

Strikes are a regular occurrence in Europe, as employees withhold their labour to fight for better pay and conditions.

Walkouts are sometimes planned months ahead but others are announced last minute, showing that it always pays to check before you travel.

Luckily, we have gathered all of the strike information together below.

Read on to find out where and when are walkouts taking place.

If your flight or train is cancelled or delayed, you will be entitled to a new ticket or compensation. Read our guide for the full details.

UK: Border Force strikes will land over Easter holidays

The end of the Easter holidays will be marred by travel chaos in the UK as Border Force workers vote to walk out.

PCS union members voted overwhelmingly in favour of on strike action in a dispute over working hours and conditions. No date has yet been set, but the strikes could take place as soon as 8 April, the union says.

The walkouts could cause long queues and delays at London's Heathrow Airport.

Meanwhile Scandinavian Airlines grounded a significant portion of its Heathrow fleet.

Train strikes in April and May

Rail workers in the UK are planning a series of one-day strikes in April over pay.

On Friday 5 April , train drivers at Avanti West Coast, East Midlands railway, West Midlands Trains and CrossCountry will walk out. They'll be followed by Chiltern, GWR, LNER, Northern and TransPennine trains on Saturday 6 April .

On Monday 8 April , drivers at c2c, Greater Anglia, GTR Great Northern Thameslink, Southeastern, Southern/Gatwick Express and South Western will strike.

An overtime ban from 4-6 and 8-9 April could cause further disruption.

London Tube drivers will also go on strike on Monday 8 April and Saturday 4 May causing chaos in the capital.

LNER becomes first UK train operator to offer free period products to customers - in 'discreet and convenient service'

  • The train operator is the first in UK to introduce free products to those on trains
  • READ MORE: Fans react to Primark's newly launched period swimwear range

LNER has become the first train operator in the UK to offer free menstrual products to customers across its trains, stations and offices.

Pioneering a new era of inclusivity and accessibility, LNER ( London North Eastern Railway) strives to provide a discreet and convenient service that allows passengers in need to request period products while on the move.

The groundbreaking initiative comes as new research revealed that one in five people (22 per cent) have experienced a time where they needed period products for themselves or someone else - but could not access any.

Around half were travelling on public transport at the time, and of those needing access while journeying, 57 per cent were on a train.

Having recognised the importance of addressing menstrual hygiene needs for travellers, LNER say they have ensured its passengers can now access products with ease and discretion.

LNER customer toilets both onboard and in First Class lounges will also display distinct stickers informing passengers that environmentally friendly TOTM organic period products are available.

People who wish to ask for a sanitary pad or tampon will be able to request them directly from a team member or order a 'Package for a Friend' through the train operator's catering service.

Alternatively, those who wish to request products inaudibly can do so using a QR code direct from their phone.

LNER staff will then discreetly deliver the product directly to the customer at their seat.

Gill McKay, an On Train Delivery Manager with LNER, who has been involved in 'Package for a Friend' since its inception said: 'We're incredibly proud to offer free TOTM period products to both customers and colleagues.

'Customer feedback, supported by research, highlighted the upset that can be experienced by not having access to period products.'

She added: 'We believe everyone should be able to travel with confidence and in comfort and providing free, environmentally friendly products to anyone who needs them is just one way we can provide support, help the planet and break down barriers and stigma.'

Kiley Yale, who leads TOTM's Period Positive Workplace Scheme added: 'We developed our pioneering corporate scheme with the goal to make period products widely available, so nobody has to face the stressful situation of getting caught short without any tampons or pads.

'We are really excited to be working with LNER to champion period comfort, wellbeing and dignity across their trains, stations and offices.'

It comes as MailOnline recently revealed the cost of having a period around the world , ranging from zero dollars for some women in Europe and creeping into the thousands for others in Asia.

An analysis by Healthnews looked at the price of the most common menstruation product people use - a pad - and found wide discrepancies among more than two dozen countries.

The cost of having a period is highest in the United Arab Emirates, where women will pay 23 cents (£0.83) per pad and $68 (£53) per year, totaling $2,668 (£2,087) over a lifetime.
