For the first time in five years, Manchester United is headed to the United States for a preseason tour.

The Red Devils have confirmed they will head Stateside in the summer of 2023, returning for the first time since a 2018 tour that included a match against Liverpool at Michigan Stadium that drew over 100,000 fans.

“This will be our first visit to the U.S. for five years and everyone at the club is looking forward to it, especially the players, who love the high-quality facilities, the welcoming atmosphere and passionate support of our large U.S. fanbase,” said John Murtough, Manchester United’s football director.

“Tour 2023 will not only see the return of our senior players to training and playing, but there will also be valuable opportunities for up-and-coming talent from our Academy to experience life within the first-team environment – and for our U.S. fans to see some potential stars of the future.”

So far, the club has confirmed four matches of the tour: against Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Wrexham, and a high-profile match against Real Madrid as part of the Soccer Champions Tour.

After a successful debut season, Ten Haag and his Manchester United team head to the USA for their pre-season tour

Manchester United head west for their 2023 pre-season tour for the first time in five years. The Red Devils will jet off to the United States to build on what was an excellent debut season for manager Erik Ten Haag.

3rd place and a Carabao Cup triumph over Newcastle United at Wembley, United’s first trophy in six years, was the prize in a season where the new manager arrived, battled adversity and was rewarded by his players.

United will play a total of four games in the USA, ranging from League 2 opposition in Wrexham to Premier League rivals in Arsenal. In this article, GIVEMESPORT has all you need to know about Man United’s pre-season schedule.

What are Man Utd’s 2023 pre-season fixtures?

  • July 12th - Manchester United vs Leeds United
  • July 19th - Manchester United vs Lyon
  • July 22nd - Manchester United vs Arsenal
  • July 25th - Manchester United vs Wrexham
  • July 26th - Manchester United vs Real Madrid
  • July 30th - Manchester United vs Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United kick off their pre-season in Norway where they face recently relegated Leeds United. Before United head stateside, Ten Haag and his player will travel north to Scotland to face Lyon at Murrayfield, the home of Scottish Rugby. Their American tour begins on the East Coast in New York, taking on fierce Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The Reds then fly west for games against the most famous forth-tier side in the world, Wrexham . Infamously owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, United will face the Welsh side on the 25th of July, before travelling to Texas to face 14-time European Champions Real Madrid.

Wrexham pre-season tour: Everything we know

United conclude their trip in the Sin City, Las Vegas, where they play Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund at the new Allegiant Stadium, home of the recently relocated Las Vegas Raiders NFL team.

Why are Man Utd playing Wrexham?

The biggest surprise to many fans when they saw the pre-season fixtures was the presence of League 2 Wrexham among the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal. Wrexham won promotion for the National League in dramatic fashion, winning the league over Notts County to secure a place in the Football League next season.

The club have flourished under the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and their notoriety has helped land a pre-season fixtures with the 20-time champions of England. Manchester United football director John Murtough stated that the game is an opportunity for United to “ give opportunities for our most promising young Academy players to gain valuable experience in the first team environment ”

Where are Man Utd’s pre-season games being played?

  • Manchester United vs Leeds United - Ullevaal Stadium, Oslo, Norway (4pm BST)
  • Manchester United vs Lyon - BT Murrayfield, Edinburgh (2pm BST)
  • Manchester United vs Arsenal - MetLife Stadium, New York (10pm BST)
  • Manchester United vs Wrexham - Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego CA(3.30am BST)
  • Manchester United vs Real Madrid - NRG Stadium, Houston TX (12am BST)
  • Manchester United vs Borussia Dortmund - Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas NV (2am BST)

United begin their pre-season in Oslo, Norway where they face Leeds United before flying back to the UK to take on Lyon in Edinburgh.

Man United will rack up the air miles on their pre-season tour, beginning on the east coast before flying to the west coast. MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and New York Jets in the NFL, will host their first game on US soil against Arsenal. United will fly from San Diego immediately after facing Wrexham on the 25th July to Houston, Texas where they face Real Madrid just 24 hours after the final whistle at Snapdragon Stadium.

The home of the Houston Texans, NRG Stadium, will host Manchester United vs Real Madrid. The stadium has hosted two Super Bowls, most recently in 2017, and has a retractable roof which may be used for the fixture. Finally, Allegiant Stadium hosts United’s final pre-season game in the United States against Borussia Dortmund. Opened in 2020 to relocate the Las Vegas Raiders from their former home in Oakland, California, Allegiant Stadium will host the 2024 Superbowl.

What are the kick-off times?

If United fans want to watch all of their pre-season games in America, they may have to adjust their sleeping schedules.

Of course, the friendly against Leeds in Norway and Lyon in Scotland will kick off at reasonable times, with a 4pm and 2pm kick off times scheduled respectively.

United will have to adjust to the five-hour time difference in New York where they face Arsenal. The game is scheduled for a 5pm local time kick off, which will be a 10pm start for fans in the UK.

The time difference gets even trickier when United head to the West Coast. United fans will have to set an alarm clock if they fancy watching their side take on Wrexham in San Diego which is billed for a 7.30pm local time kick off, or 3.30am UK time due to the seven-hour difference between the UK and the United States west coast. The Real Madrid game the next day in Houston begins at 4pm local time, or midnight UK time.

The final game of the tour in Las Vegas will also require United fans to set their alarm clock. Man United vs Borussia Dortmund is scheduled for a 6pm local time start or 2am UK time.

United secured a top-four finish in the Premier League, won the Carabao Cup and reached the FA Cup final.

Man United will look to use the upcoming pre-season to continue their rise under Ten Hag

The Red Devils will be pleased with their undoubted progress under Ten Hag and will have high hopes of continuing their improvement.

Key players could make an exit while plenty of potentially huge new faces are expected to come through the door at Old Trafford this summer.

And if they get their pre-season right, Man United may put themselves among the title challengers in the top flight next campaign.

Man United transfers in

United have wrapped up the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea for £60million.

The Red Devils will pay a guaranteed £55m to the Blues, plus a further £5min performance-related add-ons.

The England international will wear the number seven shirt and was Ten Hag's top target.

Andre Onana is expected to be the next man through the door.

talkSPORT sources indicate a deal worth £45m with Inter Milan is close and should be wrapped up soon.

Attention will then turn to a new striker, with the club looking at alternative targets to Harry Kane.

talkSPORT has been told that Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund is the club's primary option and talks are taking place.

And Morocco World Cup star Sofyan Amrabat has emerged as another target in midfield should United shift their deadwood.

Onana is set to be reunited with Ten Hag

Man United transfers out

Captain Harry Maguire has been linked with a move away from United after falling out of favour at the club.

Maguire lost his starting spot after an injury and poor performances and may now move on from Manchester to reignite his career.

However, the Red Devils are said to be looking for £50m, which is putting off several interested parties.

Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst have played a regular role for the Red Devils this season but have returned to their parent clubs.

Jack Butland has left Old Trafford and joined Rangers.

Meanwhile, the club will welcome Alex Telles and Eric Bailly back from their loans, but another move away is very possible with both out of favour under Ten Hag.

Elsewhere, the club are open to offers for Fred and could allow Scott McTominay to leave.

Maguire is likely to move on after a torrid season

Man United contract talks latest

Man United only have four players out of contract this summer.

David de Gea was one of those, but after 12 years in Manchester, the Spaniard has officially left United .

De Gea made 545 appearances for the Red Devils, winning eight trophies, including one Premier League title.

The Spaniard expected to sign a new deal, but things turned ugly, and the former Atletico Madrid man has moved on.

The two other players set to leave are Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe.

Tom Heaton saw a one-year contract extension option triggered, keeping him at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, contract extension talks are ongoing with Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford.

Manchester United transfer news - Pre-season tour fixtures confirmed and injury updates

All the very latest Man Utd news, views and transfer gossip from the Manchester Evening News.

Rasmus Hojlund in action for Manchester United.

Manchester United could be without striker Rasmus Hojlund for up to three weeks because of a muscle injury.

United issued a statement on Friday lunchtime to confirm that he will miss tomorrow's clash with Fulham at Old Trafford. The statement added the injury is 'expected to keep him out for two to three weeks'.

It is a crushing blow for both United and the Dane, with the striker having played a key role in the club's recent run of good form. He scored for the sixth Premier League game running against Luton Town last weekend.

As for tomorrow's clash with Fulham, United will be determined to record a fifth successive Premier League win and a sixth on the bounce in all competitions. The Reds have only previously won five league games in a row once under Erik ten Hag .

Meanwhile, United have been credited with interest in Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou. It has been reported that the Reds are 'battling' with Tottenham Hotspur for his signature.

Manchester United are reportedly planning to complete the permanent sale of Jadon Sancho this summer.

Whether or not Sancho is seen again in a United shirt remains to be seen. Football Inside r believe he won't be as United are "prepared to sanction a permanent departure".

Omari Forson hint and other things spotted in Manchester United training ahead of Fulham clash

Manchester United have been dealt a number of injury blows ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Fulham at Old Trafford.

Last weekend, despite picking up a huge three points against Luton Town, Erik ten Hag lost Luke Shaw to another injury with the left-back now confirmed to miss an extended period. Rasmus Hojlund was the star of the show in the victory at Kenilworth Road but his superb recent run of form is set to be interrupted with the young striker suffering a muscular injury.

"It's a small injury, two to three weeks, that's what happened," the United manager told reporters in his Friday press conference. "That is the risk playing high intensity, training; it's not a big injury, but he has to wait now for two-three weeks." The absence of the Denmark international will also likely see a reshuffle in attack with the latest set of training images hinting at his replacement in the starting XI.

With that said, here are three things we spotted the one of the final sessions at Carrington before the visit of Fulham....

Omari Forson hint

New training images could have confirmed the first Manchester United starter to face Fulham in the Premier League. Hojlund's muscle injury will see him miss out and while Antony would be the expected replacement, it could actually be 19-year-old Omari Forson that comes in.

The teenager has made a number of brief cameo appearances this season, making a huge impact in one as it was from pass Kobbie Mainoo swept home a late winner against Wolves. In training, Forson, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford have been working in a front three which places him in line for his first senior start, as per The Athletic .

Ipswich issue Williams injury update

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has said Brandon Wiliams has suffered a setback in his recovery at United.

The left-back returned to M16 last month to undergo a 'medical assessment' after encountering illnesses and knocks in recent weeks. Speaking at the start of this month, former United coach McKenna admitted he hoped Williams would return to Portman Road in a maximum of two weeks.

A few weeks later, he is still at Carrington and no closer to a return. He is not currently training on the grass.

OPINION: Dortmund warning proves Ten Hag was right about Sancho at United

Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzić, earlier this week, admitted that United winger Jadon Sancho is capable of more after an underwhelming performance in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven.

Sancho was allowed to rejoin Dortmund on loan last month after falling out with United manager Erik ten Hag back in September. As football writer Jack Flintham has outlined , Terzić's comments suggest Ten Hag was right about the winger.

"There is a talented player in Jadon Sancho and when he is in the right place, he can be very good. However, those good times are becoming increasingly less common for the England international and it is becoming self-evident that Ten Hag made the right call in January and perhaps in September too. As we enter this new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, it is hard to see a place for Sancho considering his performances over the past few years. The question is, how much money United will be able to recoup? "

BREAKING: 2024 pre-season tour plans confirmed

United will play Liverpool and Arsenal on their pre-season tour of the United States this forthcoming summer, the club has officially announced.

United will play Arsenal in Los Angeles at the 70,000-seater SoFi Stadium on July 27 and lock horns with Liverpool at the University of South Carolina's William Brice Stadium on August 3. The Manchester Evening News understands United are planning to play two friendlies in Europe before they fly to the States, with discussions held about matches in Edinburgh and Trondheim in Norway.

United played in both Norway and Scotland prior to last summer's pre-season tour of the US, taking on Leeds United and Lyon respectively.

Why United are unlikely to recall Hugill from Brewers loan

It is highly unlikely that United will be able to recall Joe Hugill from his loan spell at Burton Albion amid the loss of Rasmus Hojlund to injury.

The Dane faces up to three weeks on the sidelines with a muscle problem, leaving United significantly light on forward options. Anthony Martial is recovering from surgery on a groin problem, meaning Erik ten Hag does not currently have a senior out-and-out striker available to him.

Hugill joined Burton on loan in January, offering him the chance to store some regular first-team minutes under his belt. Burton and United would have to mutually agree for Hugill's loan to be abruptly ended and the EFL would have to grant permission for the loan to be terminated outside a transfer window.

Saudi duo 'working' on Varane deals

According to a report by 90min , Saudi Arabian clubs Al Ittihad and Al Nassr are 'working on offers' for United defender Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman has been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in recent months ahead of his contract at Old Trafford expiring at the end of this season. United declined to trigger the one-year extension in Varane's contract.

However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News , a decision on his future is being delayed. It is understood United partly want to delay a decision amid the planned structural and personnel changes being carried out by Ineos.

It is reported that a whole host of Championship clubs are keeping an eye on him, including Blackburn Rovers, Hull City, Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

Premier League outfit Sheffield United, who are in danger of relegation to the Championship this term, are also said to be 'tracking his progression'.

Ten Hag sends message to United players

United manager Erik ten Hag has urged members of his squad to pounce on any opportunities that may come their way amid the club's recent increase in injury problems.

Rasmus Hojlund is the latest name to be added to the injury list, with United confirming earlier today that he faces 'two or three weeks' out with a muscle problem. He has joined the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount in the treatment room.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference this lunchtime , Ten Hag said:

"All the players will get the opportunity to show their qualities. Of course, we are very curious and we have the confidence they can because that's why we constructed the squad when we went into the January window. We saw players are developing, progressing, who didn't have the chance in the first half of the season or they were injured. But now they will get opportunities and now it's about them to fit into the team and contribute."

Hojlund at risk of missing five United fixtures

Striker Rasmus Hojlund could miss each of United's next five fixtures after suffering a muscle injury.

In a statement released inside the last hour, United have said the Dane faces up to 'two or three weeks' on the sidelines. He is, of course, ruled out of tomorrow's clash with Fulham and the upcoming clashes with Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.

He is also at risk of missing the clash with Everton on March 9 and a potential date with Sheffield United on March 16.

United have announced that striker Rasmus Hojlund will miss tomorrow's clash with Fulham because of a muscle injury.

He has been in excellent form in recent weeks, scoring eight goals in his last eight matches.

ANALYSIS: How United can solve their left-back problem

With news of Luke Shaw facing an 'extended period' on the sidelines through injury, United now face a huge problem at left-back.

With backup option Tyrell Malacia still out injured, United to not have a senior left-back within their ranks who can fill in during Shaw's period of absence. Sergio Reguilon's loan from Tottenham Hotspur was ended last month and Alvaro Fernandez was allowed to join Benfica on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

It means, as things currently stand, Victor Lindelof could be forced to step in at left-back and deputise in Shaw's absence.

Senior Football Writer Richard Fay has explained more .

United's impressive record against Fulham

After beating Luton Town at Kenilworth Road last weekend, United will be targeting a fifth successive Premier League win when they host Fulham at Old Trafford tomorrow.

United edged past the Cottagers in the reverse meeting at Craven Cottage in November, winning 1-0. Bruno Fernandes netted a late winner to mark the first of three straight Premier League wins.

United have had the upper hand when facing Fulham in recent years, currently finding themselves unbeaten in their last 16 league matches against the Londoners. They have not lost against them in the Premier League since December 2009.

OPINION: United have three players who deserve squad number upgrades next season

The 2024/25 season will mark the beginning of a new dawn at Old Trafford following Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment in the club.

This forthcoming summer will mark his first transfer window since becoming co-owner, meaning big changes are likely to take place. On a much smaller scale, there could also be some trading of shirt numbers within the squad. If that proves to be the case, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund should be in line for upgrades, as Senior Football Writer George Smith has outlined :

"Mainoo, Garnacho and Hojlund have each come on in leaps and bounds as this season has progressed, each establishing themselves as staples in Erik ten Hag's strongest XI. Mainoo has offered control in midfield when senior figures have failed to provide it, Garnacho has improved since switching to the right and Hojlund has started to deliver the goals he was signed to plunder. With the exception of Hojlund, who has scored 13 times so far this season, they don't currently occupy shirt numbers you can describe as iconic. Mainoo currently wears the No.37 shirt, which has often been donned by fellow youngsters in the past, while Garnacho sports No.17, a shirt which has most famously been worn by the likes of Daley Blind, Nani and Fred in recent years. Bremer 'wants' United switch amid links

According to a report by Calciomercato , Juventus defender Gleison Bremer 'wants' to seal a move to Old Trafford amid reports linking United with his signature.

United, over the last few weeks, have been often linked with the Brazilian centre-back. United plan to strengthen their central-defensive options this forthcoming summer and Bremer has been cited as a potential candidate to achieve that goal.

The former Torino ace, 26, is reportedly keen on a move to M16, but Juventus are said to be 'demanding €70million' to sell him.

Malacia edging closer towards return

It is understood that United left-back Tyrell Malacia is making progress in his recovery from a long-term injury lay-off.

The former Feyenoord ace has been sidelined since pre-season after undergoing surgery on a knee problem. He has not played for United since the final day of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign last May.

Ratcliffe to 'sanction significant transfer spend' this summer

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to 'sanction a significant transfer spend' at Old Trafford this summer, according to a report by the Daily Mail .

It is reported that the club's financial situation is 'easing' and that player sales are 'planned'. It was reported elsewhere yesterday that United are going to 'consider' a big-money bid for Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior.

The report adds that United's priority targets for this forthcoming summer's window are 'believed to be a centre-forward, a central-midfielder and a centre-back'.

United 'battling' to secure Leverkusen ace

According to a report by SportBILD, as cited by Football Talk , United and Tottenham Hotspur are 'battling' to secure the signature of Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou.

The 23-year-old, who can operate as both a right-back and a centre-back, has been closely linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club in recent weeks. He has played a key role in their unexpected pursuit of the Bundesliga title this season, making 20 appearances.

Though both United and Spurs are said to be keen on his signature, the report states that Leverkusen do not want to sell him for 'anything less than £43million'. He joined Leverkusen from Club Brugge in 2021 for a reported fee of €23m (£19.6m).

The report adds that Ramsay's official start date with the MLS club is 'still to be determined' as his visa paperwork still needs to be sorted out.

Fulham identify the Man Utd star they have to stop

Fulham boss Marco Silva has hailed Manchester United's in-form striker Rasmus Hojlund ahead of their trip to Old Trafford this weekend.

"You can see the talent and the quality," Silva said. "Since he arrived you can see that he's a young striker and young players need time to adapt and understand the ideas. When they start to score they become more confident and I can see this in Hojlund. "He is a really strong player when he attacks in behind and it's clear for me that he has the capacity to have a very good run while he is at Manchester United. Let's hope we can block and defend him well because he's a good player."

Berbatov lauds Hojlund

Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes Premier League clubs will be 'afraid' of Rasmus Hojlund's recent run of form in front of goal.

The Dane scored for the sixth Premier League game running last time out, netting a brace in Sunday's 2-1 win over Luton Town. He has now netted 13 goals for United this term, featuring eight in his last eight games.

Berbatov told Betfair :

"Hojlund scored another two goals at Luton, and his second goal was him showing quick judgement of the situation and him knowing exactly where the goal was. This is how good strikers need to react in the box. Was it a nice goal? Hell no. It was an ugly goal, but for a striker it doesn't matter. If it's in the back of the net then he's the happiest guy on the pitch. You need these types of goals sometimes to keep scoring. The confidence is booming for Hojlund and he thinks he can score from everywhere now. Hojlund has now scored in six consecutive Premier League games, which shows the form and mentality he has right now. I've never been big on statistics, but I think I had five or six consecutive games in the Bundesliga in which I scored, but I can't exactly remember. But even if I didn't, it didn't bother me. He just needs to treat the next game like the first, and go for seven. When you're full of confidence and you step on to the pitch, you feel different. The opposition know this, so the opposition are currently afraid of Hojlund."

Manchester United shockingly blow three-goal lead to Coventry City in FA Cup semis, hang on in penalty kicks

The red devils will face rivals manchester city in the final on may 25.

united-18.jpg

Manchester United advanced to the FA Cup final on Sunday after surviving a nearly calamitous outing against Championship side Coventry City, who scored three times in 25 minutes to force a victory in penalties out of the Premier League giants.

Manchester United cruised to a 3-0 lead by the 58th minute, with the likes of Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes scoring during a dominant performance. Things began to turn in Coventry's favor in the 71st minute, when Ellis Simms scored. Callum O'Hare scored eight minutes later to set up for a thrilling finish to regular time as Coventry searched for an equalizer, which came in stoppage time. United's Aaron Wan-Bissaka conceded a penalty after being called for a handball, which U.S. men's national team forward Haji Wright scored in the 95th minute.

COVENTRY CITY HAVE DONE IT!! 😱 MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE GIVEN UP A 3-0 LEAD AND COVENTRY CITY HAVE TIED IT! 🤯 pic.twitter.com/rbto2ycjTp — ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) April 21, 2024

The pair played to a goalless extra time period in which Coventry had the better chances, including one that appeared to be the game-winner in which Wright assisted Victor Torp's strike, but the USMNT player was offside and so the match was decided on penalties. Rasmus Hojlund eventually scored the winning penalty in a 4-2 victory in spot kicks.

Manchester United will now face Manchester City in the final on May 25, which will mark a rematch of last year's final that City went on to win.
