Amalfi Coast day trip from Rome – Tour with private driver  to see the most beautiful sites in one day

The tour will begin with your private driver collecting you from your hotel in Rome (another custom location in the area can be agreed) with a luxury sedan or minivan, and after 3H drive you will reach the beautiful Amalfi Coast located south of Naples , world famous for the romantic scenery, the rich history and the excellent food.

First stop will be Amalfi. This is a charming village with a glorious past as it was one of the four Maritime Republics (together with Venice, Pisa and Genoa). Here you’ll have some free time for a walk starting from the port to the center with the beautiful cathedral of Sant’Andrea and Piazza Duomo. If you wish, you can also have lunch in a typical restaurant to enjoy the delicious local food.

After you’ll pass by the towns of Praiano and Conca dei Marini before reaching Positano, a lovely and trendy town placed in a beautiful panoramic position overlooking the sea. The tour will continue along this romantic coastline where you can stop to take beautiful photos.

At the end of the day, the tour will then conclude with a transfer back to your hotel in Rome or other desired location.

Optional for this tour we can provide a local guide who will show you around each place. Please note that the driver will not be able to leave the car unattended during the various stops.

Our driver/guide Roberto is not only professional, punctual, knowledgeable and humorous, he has amazing driving skills. With the patience of a saint! He went out of his way to assist a couple of my friends with transportation up a hill after our lunch. Always making sure we were comfortable. Our first stop will be at the archaeological site of Pompeii , a former prosperous ancient Roman town that became entombed in volcanic mud when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD .

It wasn’t until about 1,500 years later that first excavations began in Pompeii, and excavations continue even now. 

Pompeii existed even before it became a Roman city.  It is believed to have been founded sometime in the 7th or 6th century BC by the legendary Osci , an Italic civilization that was once a rival of Rome.  The root of the name Pompeii , " pompe ", has been associated with the Oscan word for " five ".  In 80 BC, Pompeii became a colony of Rome as the Roman Republic expanded its territory.

The sudden eruption of the massive volcano killed the inhabitants of Pompeii and buried the city under tons of ash, thus preserving it for centuries.

Frozen in time, we get to see Pompeii how it was in its final monuments, its ell preserved artifacts and architecture offering detailed glimpses into this unfortunate ancient city.

We were picked up at our hotel in Rome for a full day tour of Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. The van was very nice and the perfect size for our group of 4 people. Our driver, Radu, was fantastic. He was super knowledgeable, friendly and the perfect tour guide. He kept us moving and on target with our times in each location so that we would be able to see all we wanted to see. Currently we have the following itinerary..

Day 1 Pompeii in the morning, afternoon ferry over to Capri and stay in anacapri

Day 2 Capri and stay in same lodging

Day 3 ferry to ? And stay in praiano

Day 4 ?? Stay in praiano

Day 5 travel to naples to go to Rome

My main question is- should I reconsider the Praiano location? I understand it doesn't have a ferry. I want to see Positano , Ravello and we love to hike to either the path of the Gods or the Lemon Trail. Other options are amalfi, Maori or Ravello.

My next question is it ideal to rent like a vespa to travel on those days. I heard parking is bad for cars but is it on smaller vehicles like a vespa?

For such a short stay you make it more difficult by choosing a location without a ferry, but at this point, two weeks prior to departure, you'll take what you can get.

Be sure to get your IDP before you leave home if you intend to rent any type of motorized vehicle.
