Tour itinerary

1st day | lisbon & alentejo, 25th april bridge.

Constructed in 1966, it’s the link between Lisbon and Almada, crossing the Tagus estuary at its narrowest point.

The Capital of Alto Alentejo (one of the Portuguese Regions) and classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage site since 1986.

San Francisco’s Church

The Convent of St. Francis in Évora, was the first house of the Franciscan Order in Portugal and was founded in the 12th century. The Church of the convent was remodeled at the end of the 15th century, between the years of 1480 and 1510, is an example of Gothic-Manueline architecture. It is related to the events that marked the period of the maritime expansion and is one of the most beautiful churches in Portugal.

Bones Chapel

Built in the 17th century by the initiative of three Franciscan friars in order to convey the message of the transience and fragility of human life. At the entrance, the warning: “We bones here laid, for yours we wait”. The walls and the eight pillars of the church are covered with about 5,000 human skulls and countless bones from the city’s cemeteries.

Évora’s Roman Temple

The Roman Temple of Évora was built in the early 1st century and is located in the historic city center, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, in 1986, is one of the most famous landmarks of the city and a symbol of the Roman presence in Portuguese territory.

Évora’s Cathedral

Better known as Sé de Évora, it’s the largest medieval cathedral in Portugal. Its construction began in 1186 and consecrated in 1204, was completed later on, in 1250. It is a fascinating monument in granite that marks the transition from the Romanesque style to the Gothic style.

Local vineyard and winery

Get to know more about the wine production with a guided tour of a local winery. You’ll learn more about the daily life of a winery and at the end have a wine tasting with local ‘tapas’ such as cheese, sausage, olives, and bread.

Store and cork factory

Cork is plant material, 100% natural, from the bark of the cork oak. It can be extracted every 9 years and has several uses such as floor coverings, musical instruments, decoration, and clothing. Considered the most important industry in Portugal, with an area of ​​730 thousand hectares of cork oak, it is responsible for more than 50% of the world’s cork production.

S. Pedro do Corval

It’s an Alentejo small village widely known for its handmade pottery. With about 35 pottery factories São Pedro do Corval is known as the Capital of Pottery (it’s the Portuguese largest pottery center).

Medieval village conquered by the Moors in the 12th century. It played, over the years, a very important role in monitoring the Guadiana River, after the border with Spain. The beauty and state of conservation of the village of Monsaraz are impressive, making it a museum village, unique in the region. From the top of the castle walls, built by D. Dinis in the 14th century and classified as a National Monument, we can see the whole village with houses painted white and slate roofs and the Alqueva dam.

2nd Day | Mérida, Cáceres, Trujillo & Madrid

Founded in 25bC, one of the best-preserved archaeological places in Spain. Mérida has several testimonies of the Roman occupation, like its theater and amphitheater dedicated to the Goddess Diana or the Roman bridge over the Guadiana River.

Where you will find an impressive City with imposing monuments such as palaces, towers, and churches.

Located in the valleys of the River Tagus and Guadiana, Trujillo holds an important collection of churches, castles, and stately homes that are built around its ‘Plaza Mayor’.

3rd Day | Madrid

Monument of the escorial.

Built in the 16th Century, during the reign of the King Filipe the 2nd. The Escorial is a large and imposing complex that includes a palace, a monastery, a museum, and a library, located about 42km from Madrid.

‘Valle de los Caídos’

A memorial in honor of those who lost their lives in the Spain civil war, built between 1940 and 1958. At this site, you can dazzle the majestic Basilica and also enjoy the impressive 150 feet tall Cross (its arms measure 46 meters and the cross has two bases).

Royal Palace

The official residence of the Spanish royalty and Sabatini gardens surrounding the palace.

Moncloa Palace

Currently, the seat of the Ministry of Territorial Policy has been the official residence for the Prime Ministers of Spain, since 1977.

Plaza Mayor

4th day | toledo & madrid.

The former capital of Spain. Of a Huge monumental richness, Toledo is known as the City of 3 cultures due to their Christian, Jewish and Arab influences. Toledo preserves an artistic and cultural heritage in the form of churches, palaces, fortresses, mosques, and synagogues.

One of the main streets of Madrid. The Gran Vía, considered as the Broadway of Madrid, it’s an important commercial, tourist, and leisure area. In Gran Vía there is a pedestrian area that you can enjoy getting to know Madrid and their squares. On this walking street, you can get to know the ‘Plaza Mayor’ and the ‘Puertas del Sol’.

San Miguel Market

5th day | ávila, salamanca, zamora & miranda do douro.

The birthplace of St. Teresa of Jesus, better known as Teresa of Ávila, who founded the Order of Discalced Carmelites. Ávila is surrounded by a 2.5 km long wall that has multiple ports and 88 round towers, arranged from 20 to 20 meters.

Town of the students. This is one of the richest Spanish cities in monuments of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Baroque and Classical eras, and its historic center is a World Heritage Site since 1988.

6th Day | Douro, Gerês & Braga

Peneda-gerês natural park.

It’s the only Portuguese protected area that has been classified as a National Park and one of the most important natural attractions in Portugal. It’s known for its natural beauty, ecological & ethnographic value, and home to a variety of fauna and flora including deer, ‘garrano’ horses, wolves, birds of prey, pines, yew trees, chestnut trees, oaks, and a variety of medicinal plants.

I enjoyed the places we visited very much. The tour director was full of information regarding history of Spain and Portugal which I found very interesting. The driver, Victor, was an excellent driver and very helpful getting me on and off the bus as I had a fall in the first hotel in Barcelona. A few things that could make the trip better. We found the one nights stay too tiring and found that 2 night stays much easier for us. It also gave us the opportunity to see more, especially in places such as Valencia. Name tags would also be helpful for all.

Great see it all kind of tour. Albeit, demanding at times with its rigid schedule for departures and short turnarounds at some very interesting places. But we knew ahead of time what to expect considering all we saw and had to see. The best tour guide we had during all 17 days on this circuit was Luis Cebollada. He consistently went out of his way to accommodate requests and improve upon the cultural experience in each country. His knowledge of the sights and the people was insightful and very helpful during our tour. All and all...a memorable and unforgettable experience.

we rank the cities as follows: 1. Granada (hotel buffet breakfast was wonderful! Service very good, attractions lovely, the tapas way of buying food makes eating so easy, tasty and inexpensive, the sunny warm weather is phenomenal!, we simply love this city so much! 2. Sintra (lovelier than Lisbon) 3. Lisbon (best hotel and Fado dinner we had during this trip) 4. Porto (scenic site and tasty Portuguese pastry) 5. Coimbra (Hotel Astoria has such a beautiful dining hall and excellent buffet breakfast, the University of Coimbra and the Botanical Garden are so beautiful! Very delicious Portuguese pastry!) 6. Sevilla (the hotel has no breakfast included, but still there are plenty of not so expensive food outside, not as good food as Granada but as warm and sunny and the attractions and the city are very beautiful) 7. Madrid (the hotel has no buffet breakfast, the city is not so friendly, lots of huge attractions so the schedule to visit is very busy, the tapas are very good, beautiful Retiro Park and lots to see, you need to have a lot of time and know the city very well to have the benefit) 8. Barcelona (we practically had only one day there and it rained cats and dogs, so we saw nothing and know nothing about this city) The travel agency and tour operator must warn people that there is only one day scheduled for this city; should schedule at least 3 nights' stay in this fabulous city from all accounts so that people like us would not miss extending stay in this city on their own and miss sightseeing this famous city totally and regret with no recourse.

Highlights of Spain and Portugal

Seeing 9 places in 6 days was incredible! At some times tiring but well worth it. We had Thomas and he was fantastic! My friend and I were the youngest on the tour and were pretty much the only English speaking people. Despite the age and language barriers, we met some wonderful people and now have more reason to see more of the world and visit them. My only down point was staying one night in places meant we were not able to wash and couldn’t unpack. So be mindful of what you pack.

This tour was truly Amazing!!! 18 days thru Spain, Portugal and Morocco We loved it. Could not fault it. Well worth the money we paid. The guides were amazing truly looked after us. All the meals were delicious and accomodation was fantastic. . We had free time which I was a bit worried there would be none but plenty. We would Highly recommend Tourradar and will differently be using them again. Well done.

Discovery of Spain & Portugal - 15 days

Itinerary was great. Last stop Barcelona was the only weak part. Our accommodation there limited our time to see the city. Based on the other accommodations Barcelona should have been better. Also, we expected our English tour to be a but better but the Spanish speakers got a much more thorough interpretation of each site.

Charming Spain & Portugal - 10 Days

Oh my, where to begin! Bus driver, itinerary, hotels and meals were excellent as were city tour guides. The negative: we were the only English speaking tourists on 3 different buses with 3 different guides. The tour was run by VPT. We switched bus and guide in Caceres and again in Granada. Each of the three guides spent 90% of the time speaking Spanish. Two of the guides did not speak English well. We had difficulty understanding directions and the 2nd guide was annoyed every time we asked for further explanation. 3 buses and 3 guides were not what we signed up for and we felt we were just being shuffled from place to place.

Portugal and Andalucia from Madrid

Very informative tour and done with amazing precision fantastic guides. As with most tours stops are always shorter than you would like but it is good that we were able to se so much. We thought there was to much free time but found we needed it at times. Overall a fantastic trip which we will have greet memories of for the future.

Portugal, Andalusia and Morocco (Multi country)

Tour Radar and Destination Spain did not advise at any time that neither of them were actually the tour operators. As a result of this we were very close to not being picked up at all as there was a mix up with paperwork and we had no idea it was a different company. We will not go through a third party again. In saying that the actual tour itself was good. Guides were great, accommodation was excellent. Well done Julia Tours.

What people love about Portugal And Spain Tours

I really loved our tour guide Ana Rita Lima. She helped us through a couple rough patches and I appreciate that. Very energetic and delightful!! I loved every bit of the tour except the hotel quality on the first night of the tour. It needed a vending machine that worked and more opportunity to get snacks upon arrival. It was just very basic. Also the hotel in ( I can't remember which city) we didn't have air conditioning. Our tour guide told us of where to be cautious (pick pockets) and some things we should be aware of. I appreciate that they stopped regularly for food and bathrooms breaks. Our driver, Rui, ( proved to have great skill, navigating in traffic, fog, rain and parking!! Overall, a great tour, with important history and valuable information!! With the exception of two poor quality hotels it was a memory that will last a life time. By the way, the Best Western in Barcelona is much better than the one we stayed in on the tour.

It was an incredible experience to see all of the different places in Spain! It felt like we were stepping into a movie with every new place we visited. Which made sense because a lot of those places actually were movie locations. Our tour guide, Emmanuel, was a funny and awesome guy. He was very patient, very accommodating, and informative; and he made sure that nobody was left behind.
