Clarkson, Hammond, and May’s Grand Tour Tenure Is Coming to an End

The Grand Tour’s end comes just weeks after the BBC indefinitely shut down Top Gear.

The old Top Gear trio of Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May will be hitting your screen as the hosts of The Grand Tour for the final time in 2024. The two final episodes have now been filmed, taking place in Mauritania and Zimbabwe, where the trio we've grown to love will close a chapter that's been three decades in the making.

“We’re done. I have reviewed cars on TV since 1989. That’s 34 years. And after next year, I won’t be doing that any more," Clarkson told The Times .

Since The Grand Tour launched in 2016, after Clarkson was fired from Top Gear for punching a producer, it's gone through several changes. First, it was essentially a Top Gear recreation, with celebrity interviews and an in-studio live show. Then they tightened it up by ditching the celebrity stuff. Eventually, they ditched the live show altogether and just made feature-length specials. And while none of The Grand Tour's iterations managed to capture the magic of Top Gear at its best , it was still one of the most watched shows on Amazon Prime . Millions of people tuned in to watch the automotive equivalent of the Three Stooges (and I mean that as a grand compliment).

Getty

All three hosts have their own projects to pursue outside of The Grand Tour anyway. Clarkson has his farm show and May has a travel show, both of which are also on Amazon Prime , while Hammond still does a lot of work for DriveTribe , while also presenting other TV programs. So they'll still be around, even though The Grand Tour won't be.

This news also comes just a couple of weeks after the BBC decided to indefinitely shut down Top Gear . After host Freddie Flintoff's accident during filming and the subsequent settlement, the BBC decided against renewing the show. Clarkson doesn't blame the most recent trio of Top Gear hosts for not wanting to return, either, specifically Flintoff.

"Richard Hammond was always keen to get back to work [following a crash], whereas Freddie isn’t," Clarkson told The Sun . "I don’t blame him. I know what happened on that awful day and it was horrific."

Getty

Clarkson even said that anyone who wants to take over in Flintoff's spot would come across as "heartless."

In a matter of weeks, the world learned that the two most entertaining car shows on TV are shutting down. We all knew this day was coming soon, as the original Top Gear gang are all either in their sixties or getting quite close, but it's still a little sad to see them go. Sure, their most recent work pales in comparison to the shows from their prime but, like most millennial car nerds, Clarkson, Hammond, and May made an indelible impression on me and the way I look at cars, and I'm sure I'm not alone on that one. Thanks for the memories, chaps.

The New Grand Tour Special Is Headed To Central Europe

Jeremy clarkson, james may, and richard hammond are back for yet another road trip..

Image for article titled The New Grand Tour Special Is Headed To Central Europe

The Grand Tour has released a new trailer for its new feature-length episode titled “ Euro cr ash.” Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond are reuniting for a 1,400-mile road trip across Central Europe from Gdańsk in Poland to Lake Bled in Slovenia. The trio are getting up to their usual hijinks with a Cold War-era twist.

The episode title “ Eurocr ash” is stylized in mock-Cyrillic and Clarkson stating, “We’re going behind what used to be the Iron Curtain,” setting the theme for the trailer. Though, Clarkson, May, and Hammond won’t be going on the epic journey in Eastern Bloc machinery. Clarkson will be behind the wheel of a Mitsuoka Le-Seyde, a strange 1990s Japanese car built around a Nissan Silva S13. May and Hammond will be driving American vehicles, a 1940s Crosley convertible and a 2000s Chevy SSR.

Related Content

During their trip, Clarkson, May and Hammond will visit a historic Formula Easter event, the Cold War-era racing category when single-seater racing cars were built out of components from production cars. The group also head to a wax museum in Kraków, Poland with a hilariously awful wax sculpture of British F1 champion Nigel Mansell.

It should be noted that the trailer is set to “The Final Countdown” by Europe. While it could just simply be an easy nod to the 1980s, the song could hint at this being the final or one of the last episodes of the Grand Tour. Amazon won’t be negotiating a new contract with Clarkson when his current deal expires in 2024 after his disgusting newspaper column about Meghan Markle.

Fans of the Grand Tour, rejoice! The first details of their next special, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video next month, have been revealed.

Amazon Studios has announced that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May will return to screens with a new special episode entitled “Eurocrash.” The standalone feature will reportedly see the trio take three unlikely cars on a 1,400-mile journey across Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Slovenia.

In terms of cars, it would appear that Hammond has opted to pilot a rather yellow Chevrolet SSR — a retro-inspired, if short-lived, pickup made by Chevy between 2003 and 2006.

Clarkson appears to have gone for a left-field option of a Mitsuoka Le-Seyde, a limited-to-500 Japanese-made creation that, despite its retro-bodywork, is based on a Nissan Silvia S13.

The Grand Tour Returns To Our Screens Next Month: Here’s What We Know

Finally, James May is seen posing in front of what appears to be another oddity that time has forgotten: a Crosley Convertible from the 1940s. Crosley was an American manufacturer of small, borderline “micro” cars, while this example likely sports a 724-cc engine with just 26 hp.

We’re promised the usual hijinks from the three, featuring the appearance of a “famous racing driver” and the sampling of some “Soviet-style” Formula 1.

It’s still unclear whether Amazon will continue working with Clarkson after reports the streaming giant was considering cutting ties with the presenter following his controversial (and since retracted) remarks towards Meghan Markle. Variety had previously reported that Amazon and Clarkson would not long work together beyond the currently commissioned episodes of The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm, which includes four more GT specials and a third series of the critically acclaimed farming show.

Filming for another Grand Tour special in Africa seemingly wrapped last week, where Reddit users spotted the trio in Mauritania with a Jaguar F-Type and Maserati Gran Cabrio. That episode will presumably air in late 2023 or early 2024.

Meanwhile, you can catch their European road trip premiering on Friday, June 16th, on Prime Video.

Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May at the 'The Grand Tour' Season 3 launch.

The return of The Grand Tour is now just a matter of weeks away after Amazon Prime Video confirmed the series’ return and revealed a new title.

Eurocrash, which will be a standalone special episode according to reports, will drop on June 16 – making it the first new episode in almost a year.

It will also be the first episode of The Grand Tour to be released since Jeremy Clarkson’s vile column about Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex .

The news comes after Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May reunited by hanging out on a boat amid speculation that they were filming the next instalment to the motor enthusiast show.

After three seasons of The Grand Tour, each containing more than 10 episodes, were released between 2016 and 2019, production on the show was affected by Covid .

Since 2020, the show has changed its format to prioritise feature-length episodes, each of which are released months apart with breaks in between.

James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson on a race track in a new series of The Grand Tour.

The most recent, The Grand Tour Presents A Scandi Flick, was unveiled in September 2022 and saw the trio visit Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

This time, Eurocrash will see them embark on a 1,400-mile journey across central and eastern Europe, stopping off in Slovenia, Hungary, and Slovakia.

According to sources, Eurocrash, which is reported to be two hours in length, will feature ‘Soviet-style Formula 1’ and an attack on the main cast by archers.

James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond on a road with three separate cars.

The show also promises an appearance from a ‘famous racing driver’ and teases that the episode will end with a ‘Fast and Furious-style climax’.

Speaking to The Sun , a source said: ‘Nobody thought central Europe would be an option for a road trip but the lads have proven it’s a great destination.’

The next episode, which has no official release date yet, will see Jeremy, Richard, and James journey to Mauritiana on the north-west coast of Africa.

Last month, Jeremy confessed to losing sleep after having to give up some of the animals housed on his Chipping Norton farm and shop Diddly Squat.

In his Times Column , he wrote: ‘I can never sleep properly the night before they go. All the way to the slaughterhouse I have a hot cricket ball in my stomach.’

The Grand Tour is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Jeremy Clarkson Confirms The Grand Tour’s Final Episode on Amazon Prime

TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has confirmed the end of The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime after next year. This announcement marks the conclusion of a series beloved by fans since its inception in 2016.

Key Takeaways:

 • End of The Grand Tour: Jeremy Clarkson, along with co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May , will no longer film new series of The Grand Tour after next year, following a decision by Amazon Prime’s executives. This marks the end of a popular show that started in 2016 and quickly garnered a devoted fanbase.
 • Fan Reactions and Future Prospects: Fans expressed their disappointment and gratitude on social media, reflecting on the impact the show had on their lives. Despite the end of this era, there’s speculation that Amazon Prime may revive The Grand Tour with new hosts, a move reportedly welcomed by the current presenters.
 • Clarkson’s Future Endeavours: Clarkson mentioned a focus on his other project, ‘Clarkson’s Farm’, and there are two more special episodes of The Grand Tour slated for release, featuring travels to Mauritania and Zimbabwe.

the grand tour 2023 special

TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, renowned for his role in the popular car show The Grand Tour alongside Richard Hammond and James May, has recently spoken about the future of the series. The show, which began on Amazon Prime in 2016, has been a fan favourite but will see no further series after next year. This decision, made by the streaming platform’s bosses, brings an end to a series that has been both entertaining and influential for car enthusiasts.

Clarkson shared his thoughts on Instagram, stating:

“Been a busy day. No more Grand Tour after next year but a LOT more Clarkson’s Farm. Which, this evening, is looking extremely lovely.”

This post quickly became a hub for fans to express their feelings about the series ending. The emotional reactions ranged from sadness over the show’s conclusion to appreciation for the years of entertainment it provided.

One fan commented:

the grand tour 2023 special

“Please start a podcast with the three of you, it can just be called the news and you rant for an hour about cars.”

Others expressed their gratitude:

“The end of Clarkson, Hammond and May in whatever it’s called is a sad day. Thank you for everything you did for petrolheads. And now farmheads!”

The influence of the trio was evident in another fan’s words:

“It’s really nice coming to the comments and seeing how these 3 impacted the lives of so many. These lads got me through countless dark times with laughter and endless banter. We all knew the day was coming, and the truest of fans will wish you, Hammond, May, and indeed all of the crew that made the magic happen the absolute best in the next stage. Thank you for inspiring countless enthusiasts around the world.”

Despite Clarkson’s announcement, there’s talk that Amazon Prime might continue The Grand Tour with new hosts. An insider revealed:

“It’s a surprising decision and everyone realises it very much marks the end of an era for the three presenters.”

This potential revival aligns with the presenters’ acceptance of passing the torch to a new generation.

“The Grand Tour is one of Prime Video’s most watched shows and Jeremy, James and Richard have a devoted following. But the guys have made no bones about the fact they’re all advancing in years and they have lots of other projects to pursue,” a source informed The Sun. “They just felt like the time was right and wanted to go out on a high when the show remained popular.”

As fans prepare to bid farewell to this iconic trio, they can look forward to two more special episodes of The Grand Tour, showcasing the team’s adventures in Mauritania and Zimbabwe. This farewell follows their departure from Top Gear in 2015, after a disagreement with producers.

The Grand Tour’s Next 4 Specials Will Still Be Released On Prime Video

Jeremy-Clarkson-The-Grand-Tour-Amazon-Cancelled

Calling all The Grand Tour fans! It’s been revealed that Amazon Studios will not be renewing Jeremy Clarkson’s contract after 2024, which means that the popular car show is going to be coming to an end. This was met with a lot of anger from the fans of the series.

However, the reason why Amazon opted not to renew Clarkson’s contract, effectively cancelling two of Prime Video’s most popular shows: The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm . However, there is a small silver lining to this news.

Amazon revealed that they would be releasing all the seasons and episodes of both shows that were already in development. This means that the following four specials of the popular car show will all be released on the platform.

It also means that the next two seasons of Clarkson’s Farm will also be released on the streaming platform . However, after those seasons and specials are released, that will be it for both shows. There will be no more seasons of Clarkson’s Farm and no more The Grand Tour specials.

This news was revealed in an exclusive article over on Variety . They revealed that Amazon Prime Video is parting ways with Jeremy Clarkson mere weeks after his comments about Meghan Markle were published in the British tabloid, The Sun.

According to their sources, Amazon will not be working with Clarkson beyond seasons of The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm that have already been commissioned. This means that the notorious will not be appearing in any new shows on Prime Video beyond 2024.

However, there is a pretty strong chance that the final Grand Tour special won’t be released on Prime Video until 2025. Amazon didn’t make a public statement about this news, and neither did Clarkson.

Jeremy has been pretty silent on the whole thing. However, he did issue a public apology to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for what he wrote in his column in The Sun.

What will the trio do next?

READ MORE: When Will Clarkson’s Farm Season 3 Be Released?

One of the questions I had was, what will Clarkson do next? However, I’m also wondering about his colleagues on the popular car show: James May and Richard Hammond. Well, it seems as though May and Amazon will still be working together in the future.

It was announced last week that the third season of James May: Our Man In… series has been renewed, which is great news. In the first season, May travelled to Japan, and he went to Italy in the second season.

It was revealed in Deadline’s exclusive article on the news that May will be travelling to India in the third season, which sounds very intriguing indeed. As for Richard Hammond, he’s just started working on a new series. He revealed that he’s going to be making a show with Discovery+ about the restoration of old cars.

So, it sounds as though May and Hammond will be completely fine, but I’m sure they’ll be upset that their time working as a trio is going to be coming to an end. That said, another streaming platform could always swoop in and pick up the trio for another series.

However, I have a feeling that other streamers and networks might want to stay away from Clarkson for the time being. We’re just going to have to wait and see what ends up happening.

Clarkson was using the “punishment” from Game of Thrones . No one complained about that transmission which was seem by how many million viewers ? A huge over reaction. Was it funny….. I thought so, in this land of free speech. Clarkson is an amazingly talented film maker. Sometimes he will go right to the edge. The media is now being controlled by the boring woke fascists. Monty Python could not be made today. Where’s there sense of humour? No Clarkson ?..I don’t need Prime.

well its all very well stopping jeramy clarkson but hes not the one slagging off the royal family and telling lies about them its Megan and harry that spreading the lies

I’ll be glad when all the wokies go broke and sane people are in control again. Canceling my Prime account which I have had since it’s inception. I have averaged spending over $4,000 a year with Amazon…no longer!

Well all you petty minded people have got what you want, what about the millions of us who enjoy watching Clarkson etc! As for Amazon, thoroughly disgusted with your actions, again giving in to the moaners and whingers of this world. “Shame on you”….

Most people agree Megan is causing the trouble but Clarkson delivered it wrong

Amazon will keep them and other companies will gladly take the 3 of them if not.

People love watching the 3 of them

We have watched Clarkson for many years on different programs..He is funny, professional, out spoken but usually tells the truth about different things ..Why oh why is he being taken off some of the most popular programs in the world for making a bad remark for which the man is very very sorry.. Please give Jeremy another chance to make good and do NOT sack him as we like this man very much ..Thank you ….

Meghan, woeful actress (see interview with Harry & Oprah), manipulator (see Harry the knobhead puppet, formerly known as Prince) and head of the woke brigade has got her way. Clarkson says what the majority think (although he should have remembered how much power the woke bunch have these days and restrained the narrative). Let’s just hope for a heatwave, threatened to us by Thunberg because of climate change, that melts the snowflakes.

Yes do not cansel the best car show inn the histori.

I can’t believe that Amazon are ending their relationship with Jezzer because of comments he made about Meghan Merkle, he was only saying what a lot people thought and The Grand Tour was far more entertaining than Harry & Meghan will ever be, shame on you Amazon.

So really we are getting punished to lose the grand tour for Jeremy telling the truth? What happened to freedom of speech? Jeremy has brought you a lot more viewers I imagine, so not only are we going to lose grand tour and now clarksons farm? I wouldn’t of sacked Jeremy for saying that about the royal brats , I think I speak for us all bring them back!!

My husband and I think Amazon Prime is giving in to the wrong people and it will bite them in the collective large Butt! Careful you don’t alienate your loyal customers in favor of “looking correct”. We will follow those 3 gentlemen! Idiots!!!

enough is enough, spoiling it for people that are not p.c and have an unbiased sense of humor, its our right to have a laugh but not take it too seriously .

1st- Jeremy did it to himself. Words do have consequences and at his late stage, he should have learned this before now. 2nd- While I do love all his (and the trios) shows, neither Grand Tour or Clarkson Farm are the most popular shows ever to exist. Definitely not so popular as to allow questionable behavior to take place from its spokesperson. 3rd- This has nothing to do about wokeness. Act like a gentleman! People who were brought up correctly know how to get a point across without being crass. Those are old school ideals (gentlemen behavior).

Sounding more and more like I dont need prime. The GT was the best thing to hit the streaming platform and the reason I kept it for so long. Amazon screwed up. Who cares of someone’s feelings got hurt anyhow? Ever been to see any comedian? Apparently we care about feelings and political correctness over all else now.

I’m in America and absolutely love the trio. I can’t stand where this word is headed. When I was growing up people got offended and got over it. I will go wherever they go and I will be cancelling Amazon. I don’t like Jeff Bezos anyway.

After Megan and Harry’s behaviour who cares what clarkson said

I got prime for Clarkson and co. Their price has just gone up which gives me another reason to leave.

I’ve already ended my Disney subscription in protest of the retarded woke fascists killing off every show that is entertaining to (real) men. I’m just waiting to catch the last Clarkson shows then will be immediately ending my Prime subscription for exactly the same reason.

In the latest episode, titled Sand Job, the trio will follow in the footsteps of the legendary Paris-Dakar rally, but they'll have to take on their adventure in modified sports cars.

It'll no doubt be an exciting episode, with Richard Hammond previously teasing a "surprise" for the episode.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com ahead of the launch, Hammond revealed: "There was there was a surprise arrival in [the] minefield, because it's [Mauritania] still on the red list in terms of travel, and the last thing you want in or near a minefield is a surprise.

'There was a scary encounter with some Ebola carrying bats. My car, the Aston Martin, was the troublesome one of the bunch because it comes from an era when cars were just becoming intelligent... and that gave me no end prompt. Plus, the guys just destroyed me as well. There was quite a bit of pranking."

So, what else can viewers expect from The Grand Tour: Sand Job? Read on to find out everything we know.

When will the next episode of The Grand Tour be released?

James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond all stood in the desert with their hands on their hips

The next instalment of The Grand Tour became available to watch on Friday 16th February on Prime Video . It's out now!

The Grand Tour locations

The trio have previously filmed in far-flung locations such as Colombia, Vietnam and Switzerland - and next time will be no different.

The newest instalment will see the trio head back to Africa, as they have this time filmed the show in Mauritiana, a country in the Northwest of the continent.

Speaking of the location, Clarkson said: "I love deserts, so I've always wanted to do the Sahara, but it's difficult to go there; you can't go to Mali or Libya or Algeria or Chad. You can't go to the top of Nigeria.

"And then it was really a question of finding the most inappropriate cars for trans-Sahara travel, and I think we did a pretty good job on that."

What is the next The Grand Tour special?

By alexandria ingham | jun 6, 2023.

James May, Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson

There aren’t many of The Grand Tour specials left to come to Prime Video. What will the next one be, and when will it come out?

When Variety initially reported that Jeremy Clarkson and Amazon had parted ways, it came with the news that there were four more specials to come. Eurocrash was one of them, which is now available to stream. It looks like there is only one more left with the others canceled.

The Grand Tour will get one final run at some point in 2024. There was a Russian one planned, but that has since been canceled. Of course, that may have been canceled due to the war between Russian and Ukraine and not just because of Amazon and Clarkson parting ways.

What is The Grand Tour’s last special going to be?

The final special will see the trio head to Mauritania and Senegal. The special is titled Sahara Special for now, but we’ll likely see another title closer to the time.

A date for the release hasn’t been confirmed just yet. It is expected sometime in 2024 rather than sometime this year.

Couldn’t The Grand Tour go on without Clarkson? Do we really think that would even happen? Richard Hammond and James May both walked from Top Gear when Jeremy Clarkson was fired from that years ago. The BBC had to bring in new hosts for Top Gear , and it’s just not been as good as it used to be.

There’s no way that Hammond and May would keep The Grand Tour going without Clarkson. There are probably stipulations that wouldn’t allow for it to keep going, anyway. Amazon immediately chose to cancel both shows Clarkson was doing with the streamer at the time of parting ways.

However, Hammond and May both have individual deals with Amazon. Those are set to continue, meaning more shows from them individually.

Selection Process

Tournament regulations.

The 2023 Grand Chess Tour is a series of elite tournaments in which the participating players are eligible to earn Grand Chess Tour Points in accordance with their final rank in each event. At the end of the regular 2023 GCT Season, bonus payments totaling $175,000 will be paid out to the top 3 finishers based on the accumulated GCT Tour Points over the season.

The 2023 GCT will consist of two 10-player Round Robin Tournaments played at Classical time controls and three 10-player Round Robin Tournaments played at both Rapid & Blitz time controls. A total of ten full tour participants will be selected for the 2023 GCT season with each full tour participant required to participate in both classical chess tournaments as well as in two of the available three Rapid & Blitz events. Players will earn GCT points in all events and the results of every event will count towards the final GCT standings at the end of the regular season.

Tour Points

Tour Points shall be awarded based on the final ranking of each full tour player in each event as set out below. The same point allocations shall apply to both the classical and rapid and blitz events. Tour Points shall be shared equally between tied players and shall not be impacted by the result of any playoff or tiebreaks that may take place.

In the Classical Events, the standings shall be determined by the allocation of: • 1 point for a win, ½ point for a draw and 0 points for a loss in all games. In the Rapid & Blitz Events the standings shall be determined by the allocation of: • 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss in a Rapid game; and • 1 point for a win, ½ point for a draw and 0 points for a loss in a Blitz game.

Laws of Chess

Unless otherwise specified, all Events shall be governed by the FIDE Laws of Chess.

Rating of games played

All games except Armageddon games shall be submitted for the appropriate category of FIDE rating and will also be submitted for rating within the Universal Rating System (URS™). The GCT shall seek any necessary permission from FIDE to ensure that all games played are rated (except Armageddon games).

Competitive Play

To promote competitive play during all GCT events, it will not be permitted for players to offer or agree to a draw in any game of a 2023 GCT event, including playoff games. In the event of a claim for a draw under Article 9.2 of the Laws (three-fold repetition) or under Article 9.3 of the Laws (50 move rule), one of the Event Arbiters must be asked by the players to verify the claim.

Tadej Pogačar is starting his first Giro d’Italia as the overwhelming favorite

MILAN (AP) — Rarely has the Giro d’Italia had such an overwhelming pre-race favorite.

Tadej Pogačar is competing in the Italian grand tour for the first time in an audacious attempt at the Giro-Tour de France double. The two-time Tour champion has been in dominant form this year.

Adding to his short odds, three of the few riders who can challenge Pogačar over a three-week race — titleholder Primož Roglič , Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel — will not be at the Giro starting on Saturday.

“It’s going to be a big challenge coming up against Tadej. I’d prefer if he wasn’t going but at the same time having him there is great,” Geraint Thomas, last year’s runner-up, says.

“It’ll change the race completely and his team will take on the weight of the race and everything that comes with that.”

Pogačar has started only five grand tours and made it to the podium of all five. He won the Tour in 2020 and 2021, was runner-up twice more, and was third in his one and only Spanish Vuelta in 2019.

The 25-year-old UAE Team Emirates rider has been the overwhelming favorite for the Giro since he announced his decision in December.

But the Giro is often wet, wild and unpredictable, as Thomas knows only too well.

The Giro starts in Turin on Saturday and the 3,321-kilometer (2,064-mile) route ends in Rome on May 26.

POGAČAR vs THOMAS

Thomas is looking for a do-over at the Giro.

Last year, the Ineos Grenadiers cyclist had a 26-second lead over pre-race favorite Roglič going into the penultimate stage but lost 40 seconds on that mountain time trial to his rival, who stormed to the Giro victory.

Thomas faces another Slovenian star in Pogačar, and both are aiming to be the first rider to win the Giro and Tour in the same year since 1998 when Marco Pantani accomplished the double.

“You don’t think that first place is gone — if anything, it takes pressure off because everyone expects him to win. They don’t expect any of us to do anything,” Thomas says.

“It definitely makes the race different to last year … the main thing was getting here in good shape and then you just do what you can. It’s a massive task because (Pogačar is) a phenomenal bike rider — I’ve said recently probably one of the greatest ever — but we’re relishing the challenge.”

Beside his narrow loss last year, Thomas is no stranger to disappointment at the Giro, having had to abandon the race twice. In 2017, he was involved in a crash caused by a police motorbike, and three years later he broke his hip after a drinks bottle became lodged under his wheel.

“It’s the Giro, a lot can go good and go bad as we all know,” he said. “So yeah, we’re excited.”

Grand tours traditionally start slow and steady and bunched up. Not this year. The start is expected to be explosive.

Not only will the riders tackle the second-category climb up the Colle Maddalena on the opening day but the first summit finish comes on the second stage, at the Santuario di Oropa. It will be the earliest mountain finish at the Giro since 1989 when the race began in Sicily and went up Mount Etna.

“The riders who want to win it will have to be ready from the start and I expect a lot of spectacle,” Giro director Mauro Vegni said when the route was revealed in October.

The second uphill finish is at the end of the first week with a top-category climb of more than 14 kilometers to Prato di Tivo.

“You need to be good from start to finish,” Thomas says, “but I think it’s kind of nice in a way, it settles the race down quite early on.

“If anything, it’s nice to get a bit of tiredness in the peloton straight away. The thing with the Giro is you got to be strong at the end. Obviously, Stage 2 is important, but it’s not the be-all and end-all.”

DECISIVE DOLOMITES

Despite race organizers’ insistence that the finale is less tough than previous editions, the final week has three of the five stages that have been given a five-star rating for maximum difficulty.

Stage 16 features 4,400 meters of elevation and the highest point of the race, over the Stelvio Pass. That is immediately followed by the Queen Stage, the hardest leg.

Apart from one short section, the peloton will constantly be climbing or descending on the brutal 159-kilometer (99-mile) route from Selva di Val Gardena, with four classified climbs before the top category ascent to the finish on the Passo Broncon.

The winner of the Giro will likely be decided on the penultimate stage, with two category-one climbs up Monte Grappa on May 25, Thomas’ 38th birthday.

The race will transfer to Rome for the largely processional 126-kilometer (78-mile) final leg through the streets of the capital, ending near the Colosseum.

The World's Highest Grossing Tours of 2023

2023 was a serious year for live music . (Although more accurately, it was a huge year for several major headliners. Many smaller acts have faced a different story entirely).

According to analysts at Pollstar, total grosses for the top 100 tours that year were up 46 percent from $6.28 billion in 2022 to $9.17 billion last year. Attendance figures were also up, rising from 59 million to 70 million - an increase of 18.4 percent.

The following chart is based on data collected by Pollstar on the world’s highest grossing tours of 2023. It reveals that at the top of this list, comes Taylor Swift with her record-breaking “ Eras Tour ” - the first ever to break the $1 billion mark - which visited 60 stadiums in total. It was followed by Beyoncé’s “Renaissance Tour”, which grossed some $579,813,546 in 56 shows and Bruce Springsteen’s “Springsteen and E Street Band 2023 Tour” which grossed $379,496,085 across 66 venues.

Ticket prices for the top 8 grossing worldwide tours ranged between an average of $105.16 for an Ed Sheeran ticket to more than double that for Taylor Swift - $238.95.

This chart shows the box office gross of the highest-grossing music tours worldwide in 2023.

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.
