We live in an age of unprecedented access to digital technology – and with it, brand new ways of exploring the world around us.

While it's not quite the same as seeing, say, the Mona Lisa or Christ the Redeemer in person, some of the world’s most popular and remote destinations have created libraries of online images and video, as well as 360 degree virtual tours that let you virtually explore museums, galleries, world wonders and even national parks.

Here a just a few of the best digital tours that let you wander the world from wherever you may be social distancing.

See the seven wonders of the world

If there’s anything capable of whetting your appetite for world travel, it is the new seven wonders of the world:  the Great Wall of China , the ancient city of Petra , the Taj Mahal , the Colosseum , Machu Picchu , Christ the Redeemer , and Chichen Itza . Thankfully there are impressive virtual tours of each from The New York Times , AirPano , Google , and Panoramas .

With modern technology, you can even see the last standing wonder of the ancient world— The Pyramids of Giza . There are a few other wonders that might not make it into to the top seven but are still worth a digital peek, like the Alhambra , Seville's La Giralda , and even Easter Island.

Best virtual museum tours

In recent years, Google has partnered with over 2,5000 art museums to upload high-resolution versions of millions of pieces of art. Highlights include New York’s MoMA , DC’s National Gallery of Art , Chicago’s Art Institute , the Casa Battl ó, and Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum to name a few.

In addition, The Louvre offers a virtual tour , as do The Vatican Museums , many of the Smithsonian Museums , the Russian Museum , the top-rated British Museum , the Minneapolis  Museum of Russian Art , and the Palace Museum in Beijing.

You may not be able to kiss the Blarney Stone right now, but you can tour the Blarney Castle from afar. You can also visit the Museum of Flight,  the Museum of Science, the Museum of Natural History,  the National Women's History Museum  and Boston's History of Science Museum .

While museums are often an inherently visual experience, there's a lot to be learned from archives of past lectures and tours like the ones preserved online by Nashville's Frist Museum , the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Smithsonian American Art Museum,  the Frick , and others.

Explore national parks

While travel to National Parks is best avoided for the time being, you don't need to miss out on the scenery. Virtual Yosemite is absolutely stunning and one of the best, replete with audio. Both Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore offer virtual tours as well.

You can also get an up-close look at almost 4,000 pieces of artwork, artifacts, and other treasures related to the history and culture of the national parks, and view online exhibits .

Digital safaris

Wildlife is a big draw for travelers, whether it's sighting some of the Big Five in Africa, glimpsing whales in North America, or introducing your children to new animals in person on a family safari . But if you're forays into the bush are grounded for now, many zoos and aquariums have created digital access to their habitats.

You can easily watch several live webcams of some of the nation’s greatest zoos and aquariums, including the  San Diego Zoo , Houston Zoo , Zoo Atlanta , the Tennessee Aquarium , and the Georgia Aquarium . Louis Cole initially started out enthralling (and grossing out) viewers with his adventurous ability to eat every odd delicacy that was dead or alive.

Kristin Sarah merges her acting chops with her love for travel in Hopscotch the Globe .

From composting toilets to solar powering an RV (okay, not your everyday travel story), they’ve transformed the concept of an RV travel lifestyle for YouTube.

Their videos are well-shot and occasionally, filmed like a sexy commercial (okay, not your every day RV travel video).

Recently, they’ve made a rather new change in their lives, by trading in their RV for a sailboat!

13. Samuel & Audrey

You may know Samuel and Audrey as their travel blogging aliases, Nomadic Samuel and That Backpacker .

As former ex-Korea expats, this adorable travel geek couple are on an indefinite road between expat life and nomadism.

For audiences, who want to get their binge watching on without taking a break, they are also known to occasionally have long format videos.

If you love Asian food, Trevor is The Food Ranger of Asia. An expat in Sichuan, China, he chomps and slurps some of the best Chinese cuisine (and uh, some pretty obscure foods too).

Commendable is his ability to upload regular videos while staying under China’s banned radar (YouTube and Google are banned in China).

He’s quickly growing a following as a new foodie channel to watch.

Like all lists, people will wonder why they’re not on it. I’m positive I missed some good ones, but this is very loose criteria I’d be using if I were hired to cast, produce or pitch a TV show. Creators did not need to meet all criteria, but most. – Programming: Weekly dedication, quality, storytelling & individual style execution – Audience: Niche, loyalty, & YouTube friendly – Blog worthy and/or binge worthy – Does it bring a new spin to the term “travel video” or “travel show” – Channel Personality/Talent: brand recognition, hosting & entertainment value

12 Incredible Youtube Museum Channels You MUST Watch

During this time of stay-at-home order and travel restrictions, art galleries and museums have jumped on the virtual gallery bandwagon. If you’re an art lover who doesn’t  love to read , these  Museum Youtube Tours  are just the things for you! Many museums and organizations have a massive backlog of online videos that take you through their collections. In these videos, you get introduced to new artists and learn DIYs based on historical artistry. And best of all, they let you in some secrets only the curators know! If you want a little break from the every day and feel like a virtual escape, read on for my favourite  Youtube Museum Tours  part of my series on  virtual travel .

British Museum

The British Museum in London, England, is where you can find over two million years of human history and culture. It contains some world-famous objects, including the Rosetta Stone , the Parthenon sculptures and Egyptian mummies . 

Curator’s Corner

Their youtube series called ‘ Curator’s Corner ‘ introduces you to the various curators working in the museum. They take the time to show you different interesting objects from their specialties. And most of the videos are set, literally in their “corner” or office space. This is just another little treat since you feel like you are being let into their private world. Never to be seen otherwise. One of my favourite curators is  Naomi Speakman , who is the curator for late medieval Europe . She loves exploring the fantastical world of medieval bestiaries and the mythical creatures found within. Seeing as these items are so old it’s amazing how she breathes new life into them!

Curator’s Tour

Since many museums’ exhibitions were not viewable to the public when the world shut down, the curators turned to online video to take viewers on a tour of their displays. These tours come in both shorter videos and live tours, which are hour-long specials hosted by various experts. It’s such a unique way to view these incredible exhibitions despite not being there in person.

The Mütter Museum

The Mütter Museum is America’s Finest Museum of Medical History . The museum aims to help the public appreciate the mysteries and beauty of the natural human body. The museum hopes to help people learn more about the diagnosis and disease treatment throughout history. Inside the museum, you’ll find some of the most incredible collections of anatomical specimens, medical instruments, cabinets of curiosity and more!

While the museum is not for the faint-hearted, their videos are an extraordinary adventure! Especially when we are amid a world-wide pandemic, their exhibitions on the 1918 Influenza Pandemic seem almost eerily apt. Their half-hour-long museum tour is an excellent introduction to what the museum is all about and worth your time to check out!

National Portrait Gallery

London’s National Portrait Gallery has been one of the most important art institutions since 1856. But today, with modern technology, we are being invited into the museums to discover the stories behind the world’s greatest paintings and artists. Their online youtube channel contains interviews with leading art experts, live recordings of talks and events, and insights into our latest exhibitions. 

10 minutes Talks

Their 10-minute talks series is one of my favourites for anyone who wants to get a little primer into art history but doesn’t want to get overwhelmed with information. These short segments study just one painting by one artist. Different curators and producers from the museums lead you through the artwork, the hidden meanings and any historical context which lends itself to studying the painting with more intention.

5-Minute Meditation

Another fascinating tidbit that they have been producing during the pandemic are these 5-Minute Meditations . This series is all about blending mindfulness and art appreciation. You grab a water or coffee and sit back with the gentle voices of the curators guiding you through the lines and textures of the painting as you have moments of self-reflection throughout. I have to admit; they are so soothing, they might even put you to sleep!

Talks for All

Lastly, if you are looking for something a little more in-depth, you can sit back and enjoy one of the longer videos called Talks for All . These lectures were initially recorded in the gallery in front of an audience, but now you can attend as an audience of one from the comfort of your own home. Something is oddly comforting about hearing the murmur of laughter or contemplation from the unseen audience in front of the lecturers. It makes you feel like you are really there.

The Field Museum

In Chicago, the Field Museum has been producing videos with the Chief Curiosity Correspondent for Youtube for the past eight years! Hosted by Emily Graslie, former volunteer of the University of Montana Zoological Museum, her heart burstingly charming personality guides you through all different parts of their collection. In such a large museum like the Field Museum, there are plenty of aspects of their collection that aren’t even on display in the museum but hidden away in the archives. Well, these videos put you behind the scenes in some of the unseen parts of the museum. One of my favourite episodes is all about their rare book room! There are also such topics as the Whale Warehouse , museums taxidermy , meteorites and more!

The Wallace Collection

The Wallace Collection is a museum in London, housed in the grand Hertford House in Manchester Square. This was once the permanent residence of the Seymour family, the Marquesses of Hertford. The Marquesses of Hertford, along with Sir Richard Wallace, for whom the museum is named after, amassed a vast collection of fine and decorative arts in their lifetime. These ranged from furniture, arms and armour, porcelain and Old Master paintings. Sir Richard Wallace bequeathed the collection to the British Nation in 1897 so that everyone could enjoy the collection.

Today, it really can, as much of the collection has been documented on video for all to see. Their playlist on the collection highlights is an excellent intro to all the wondrous things these collectors amassed over time.

Van Gogh Museum 

The Van Gogh Museum  in Amsterdam is a museum dedicated solely to the works of  Vincent Van Gogh . Famously, Vincent van Gogh only ever sold one painting during his lifetime, ‘The Red Vineyard.’ Today he is one of the world’s most notable painters, with his works selling for millions upon millions of dollars.

Throughout the pandemic, the Van Gogh museum has not only been creating entertaining videos for you to watch but tutorials for you to follow along with and learn as you go. Their series called ‘ Let’s Paint Like Van Gogh ‘ helps even the most beginning painter learn the simple techniques Van Gogh used to create his vivid and powerful masterpieces. They manage to simplify iconic parts of some of his paintings to allow you the chance to create your own at home!

In another series called ‘ In the Picture ,’ curators take you through their 2020 exhibition, which tells stories about identity and image, in 75 portraits.

Frick Museum

The Frick Collection in New York City houses the personal art collection of industrialist Henry Clay Frick . The museum is even located inside his old house on the Upper East Side. In addition to some old master paintings, the collection also includes fine furniture, decorative arts and more. Their 12-minute video introduction allows you to step inside the doors and look at the house almost as it was when Frick left it.

During the pandemic, they created many videos that allowed people to view their collection through a myriad of different themes. One of those series’ was called ‘Travels with a Curator,’ where curator Xavier F. Salomon , takes you on a virtual trip around the world. In the series, they study museums around the world and how they connect with the Frick Museum.

Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum , located in  Amsterdam , is the Dutch National Museum. Inside its great walls are pieces dedicated to the arts and history of Amsterdam. At the start of the pandemic, the Rijksmuseum wanted to give viewers worldwide access to the secrets of their galleries, so they started the series  #RijksmuseumUnlocked . Throughout the series, various curators lead you through different parts of the museum to study themes and hidden meanings behind highlights from their collection.

The American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History , located in New York City, is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions. Since opening its doors to the public in 1869, the museum attempts to help people discover and interpret information about the natural world around us. My favourite video series of theirs has got to be ‘ Shelf Life ‘! This series is relatively old, starting in 2014. The series is for curious minds and features curators opening doors, drawers and hidden away rooms to study rarely-seen items in the museum’s collection.

The State Hermitage Museum

I have long dreamt of visiting the  Hermitage Museum , delving into the dark Russian winter only to wander the halls of this incredible fortress of beauty.  The State Hermitage Museum  is located in  Saint Petersburg, Russia  and is the second-largest art museum in the world! The  collection  was founded by  Empress Catherine the Great  and contains over three million items! And while you might not be able to view each one of those items in person, you can experience it through an AMAZING virtual tour!

In May 2020, Apple created a five-hour cinematic journey inside the Hermitage museum. Throughout the videos, you are lead through 45 galleries, view 588 masterpieces, and wonder at the beautiful live performances which take place inside some of their most sacred spaces. Even more incredibly, the video was shot in ONE CONTINUOUS TAKE! The music composed throughout the video is so hauntingly beautiful, and I cannot recommend watching this piece more! You don’t need to watch all five hours, but I think once you start watching, you’ll find yourself entranced.

The  Victoria and Albert Museum  (also known as the  V&A ) is the world’s leading museum of art and design. Founded in 1852, the V&A promotes innovation and communicates the importance of good design. The collection contains over 2.27 million objects, dating from 1600 to the present. This video, hosted by curator May Rosenthal Sloan , explores vintage citrus fruit wrappers as new forms of advertising in the 19th century. This was the video that first started my binging of the V&A’s youtube channel. The packaging feels so ephemeral and yet like a work of art all at the same time.

So many objects in the V&A’s collection are small trinkets. And while seeing them in person is a beautiful experience, being able to study them in microscopic detail on video is a unique experience. One of my favourite videos is called ‘ Spotlight on Jewels ‘. Academy Award-winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne , jewellery designer Stephen Webster , British Vogue jewellery editor Carol Woolton and V&A curator Clare Phillips come together in this feature to reveal their favourite items from the collection.

The  MET   or  Metropolitan Museum of Art   is America’s most famous art gallery. Located in the heart of  New York City , the collection is home to over two million works of art! with so many objects in their collection and a slew of curators to keep it all running, the content they are producing online is superb! Their ‘ Art, Explained ‘ series is a beautiful way to pick your favourite items from the collection and learn a little bit more about them in a concise amount of time! There are over 80 items that have been documented in the videos , so there are lots to choose from.

Another series which I love is called ‘ MET Stories ‘. This 12-part series features stories from all different kinds of people, from chefs, fashion designers and even lawyers, telling stories about how the MET influenced or changed their lives.

Throughout the pandemics, the MET has also been creating videos that spark their viewers creativity. This is everything from learning how to make a soap carvings, sculpturing clay pots and my personal favourite, creating your cabinet of curiosity !

Hopefully these entertaining channels give you something to watch and inspire your mind throughout the rest of this pandemic. While we have to stay at home, we can still explore the world through these virtual travels !

Yellowstone / Grand Teton 4 Day / 3 Night Wildlife Adventure

This trip was fantastic! The group totaled 4 plus the guide Cade. We were not disappointed in wildlife viewing. We saw Black wolves, elk, big horn sheep and bison were up close and personal. Cade is an excellent guide and the trip would not have been the same without him. Cade knows both Teton and Yellowstone National parks like the back of his hand. He answers all questions and is an easy person to be around. Did I mention black bears, moose, Old Faithful and more. Fantastic trip! For birders, the bald eagle feasting on carcass and several other raptors. But, communication from Brushbuck is only when necessary for them. Don't let it stop you though. Hotels were luxe and transportation too. Loved it!

Utah Parks Circuit

We did this trip during the government strike in 2013 which meant all the National Parks were closed. Intrepid did a WONDERFUL job mitigating the situation and we still got to go camping and hiking at some select state parks. Luckily, the Grand Canyon was re-opened before our trip ended which was awesome. What a finale! Thank You Intrepid for giving us an awesome itinerary despite the challenges.

American Parks Trail (Classic, End Denver, 9 Days)

The Tour Director and driver were first class, keeping us both very amused, and very safe. Some of the downsides were due to the weather, at times, which nothing could be done about, so we got on with it. Some of the main downs were due to my naivety, in thinking some facilities (like cash paying taxis from SLC airport; I persuaded a friendly Uber driver to accept cash!) were what I was used to, and that I wouldn't have to re-enter security when changing planes from LHR to SLC, at PHX, even though I was on a connecting, booked, flight, and my baggage had already been labelled for both airports appropriately, at LHR. Altogether, a very good, and memorable holiday, where I visited some parts of the Parks that I visited before, but saw many more, and different sights in them.

Great way to travel and meet new people! Changes were made to the itinerary due to road/trail closures but it worked out in the best way. CEO adapted meals for vegetarian travelers in the group. I would book with them again!

We thoroughly enjoyed the 7-day tour of the US southwest . We love the destinations included in the tour, every place we visited is on our bucket list. I wanted to pinch myself every day that I visited those iconic and beautiful places as shown in my photos below. We enjoyed all the extra, optional experiences that were suggested by the tour guide. They added more fun to the tour. The Hummer tour in Moab, Utah was one of the optional experiences and it was a blast! Not only it’s fun, you get to see the amazing scenery during the sunset. One previous review mentioned he or she was forced to participate in the Navajo taco dinner in Monument Valley. That comment is not true. You have a choice not to do that and the guide can make a different arrangement for you. The optional Navajo taco dinner is one of the highlights of the tour that we will remember for a long time. It would be a shame not to have this cultural experience when you get to meet Navajo people when you are in the Navajo Nation! Our tour guide, John did a fantastic job. He was full of enthusiasm and energy. He kept the tour well organized and always provided information we needed. We highly recommend the tour.

the best way to explore the vastness and glory of the Utah desert is by camping and hiking in small groups. I enjoyed this trip immensely, it was challenging enough but not too much. Our guide was a brave and resourceful powerful woman. I am planning my next trip with you already!

Five easy steps to make great 4k travel walking tour videos.

4K Walking Tour Videos are gaining more and more popularity on video-sharing platforms like the popular video platform YouTube . I watched some of these Walking Tour videos because they were recommended to me, and as someone who really likes walking tours, I decided to try making one video myself.

My first 4k Walking Tour video(s) turned out badly. They were either too bright or too dark or kept constantly refocusing.,… They went straight into the trash on my computer. It was a little frustrating, but obviously, I’m not going to be perfect on my first try.

I was out again, trying different cameras and different settings, and after a few walks, figuring out what is the best camera for Walking Tour and what are the best camera video settings for filming this kind of 4k Walking Tour videos.

A 4K walk video often showcases a walking tour or journey filmed using a camera capable of recording in 4K resolution. These videos aim to provide viewers with a more immersive and visually stunning experience, as the higher resolution allows for greater detail, sharpness, and overall image quality. • Camera:  While a fancy camera is great, you can start with a smartphone that shoots in 4K. Many modern phones offer fantastic video quality.
• Stabilizer:  Shaky footage is a no-go. Invest in a gimbal (a small handheld stabilizer) for smooth, professional-looking shots.
• External Microphone (optional):  Built-in mics can pick up unwanted noise. An external mic improves audio quality, especially in windy or crowded areas.

Step 2: Plan Your Route (Pre-Production)

• Pick a theme:  Focus on a specific area or highlight hidden gems.
• Map your walk:  Plan your route beforehand, considering interesting sights and stops.
• Research local tips:  Learn some fun facts or historical tidbits to share with viewers.

Step 3: Hit the Streets (Filming)

• Walk at a steady pace:  People watching your video will be virtually walking with you, so maintain a comfortable speed.
• Narrate as you go:  Share your thoughts, interesting facts, or personal anecdotes about the places you pass.
• Capture variety:  Don’t just film straight ahead. Get close-up shots of landmarks, interesting details, and even food!

Step 4: Editing Magic (Post-Production)

A 4K walk typically refers to a walking video or footage that has been recorded and produced in 4K resolution. In the context of video resolution, 4K refers to a display or content with a horizontal pixel count of approximately 4,000 pixels, providing higher image clarity and detail compared to lower resolutions.

A “4K walk” video often showcases a walking tour or journey filmed using a camera capable of recording in 4K resolution. These videos aim to provide viewers with a more immersive and visually stunning experience, as the higher resolution allows for greater detail, sharpness, and overall image quality. Image Quality: 4K

Frame rates:

• – 25 or 50 (for slow-motion only – to be slowed down 50% when editing): for Europe (PAL in general)
• – 24 or 48 (for slow-motion only – to be slowed down 50% when editing): for US (NTCS in general)

Personally live in Europe and I slow down everything that I shoot, only sometimes do I keep a normal speed, so my go rate is 50fps. Slowing down the video gives it a more magical look and will reduce the shakes from the camera

Antiflicker : auto

you need to set it before activating pro mode!

Pro mode: enabled

This will give you access to manual settings of exposure

Color profile : d-cine like

Note: only if you plan to color grade in the post (which I highly recommend), if not then stick to the standard

Shutter speed/ISO:

I always set it to Auto . You could fine-tune by setting it manually, but the AUTO Mode on the DJI is pretty amazing.

White Balance: AUTO

I am so far happy to shoot with continuous autofocus, but be aware that it sometimes fails and you will need to point to the subject you want to have in focus.

Preparation is the mother of success! This is also related to the making of 4K Walking Tour Videos.

Define your Storyline for the Audience

Before you even select the walking route, I am really trying to find a good storyline for the audience, which I am going to tell as an overall “arching theme” for the walk. As we all know, telling a story is much more captive than just wandering around without any “preparation & plan”. (Which I did at the beginning, to be honest;-

Find the Best Places that set your Walking Tour Video Screenplay

So once you have your “story” you want to tell, then you need to find the best places, spots, and areas,… Which do you want to be included in the walking video? Sometimes the story can be “Greatest Public Parks to Relax in XXXX” or just “An After Business sunset walk”. This story sets your screenplay and the frame you need to plan the walk accordingly.

Video elements that will support your Walking Tour Video Story

If you know you’ll be visiting the St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, for example, you’ll want more than just a video from the top. Here’s an example of supporting walking tour video elements you might make for this specific experience:

• Establishing shot of the St. Stephen’s Cathedral from the street (Push in)
• Shot of the base of the St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Rise up)
• Shot of purchasing your ticket (Over shoulder camera)
• Shot of taking the elevator to the top (Push in)
• Panning shot from the top overlooking Vienna

Pin the places in Google MAPS to create the Walking Tour

Once I have my story I create a tour on Google Maps, pinning all the places I intend to visit during my walk. 

Top Tip: Please make sure you plan enough time for your tour, get comfortable clothes and shoes, your gear with enough spare batteries (for the GoPro), and most importantly get into a good positive energetic mood, you will need that believe me 😉

Video Walking Tour – Tips and Tricks

Get out of your comfort zone.

Filming videos on the street requires a bit of courage at the beginning. Especially if you are a bit introverted like me, it took a couple of walks until I realized that the vast majority of the people actually don’t care about your video recording on the street.

Very few people stare at you, so give them a bright smile, or simply ignore them. I never had anybody complaining or even yelling at me. It helps if you respect their privacy and do not run with the video camera explicitly into a person, but take a step or move left or right so you can record other interesting sceneries like beautiful architecture. 

There is also an easy way to blur people’s faces in post-editing your video. (More below in the Editing section)

Walking Tour Video Speed

The walking speed is important because you want to be able to see things that you’re not familiar with. The walker may have been through that area time and time again, but you haven’t.  Keep in mind that the speed of the walk also relates directly to the smoothness of the camera, as I mentioned above.

Video moves : I use during my walk

• Push in – walk towards the scene – good entry move to establish location and show landscape
• Pull out – walk away from the scene – good exit move to close the shooting from the scene
• Round – use active track and move around the person or subject
• Rise up – show scenery and subject
• Reveal – show subject, from the other object – good for transitions
• Tilt-up / down – use for anything interesting above the scene, like trees
• Low mode – shoot for example the foot of a person while walking on the beach

How do you film a smooth walking Video?

Walk slowly and bend your knees slightly. Keep concentration high, and use the Highest Stabilization settings on your camera

FOUR – Walking Tour Video Editing & Software

There are many Video Editing Programs on the market. Editing my Walking Tour videos, I use the software program Final Cut Pro X which runs on macOS only. There are many alternatives also for Windows, if you search on Google, I am sure you will find the one that fits your needs; including tons of Tutorial Videos on YouTube.

Blurring People Faces in post-editing

The one thing special to walking tour videos is that you also capture people and want to protect their privacy by blurring their faces. Here is a video that shows you how to do this in Final Cut Pro X

There’s a lot of travel-based content on YouTube.

If you want yours to stand out, you can’t expect to just throw together some footage and hit publish.

Instead, here are some key ideas to help your travel videos be more memorable:

• Hook your audience with your footage: The first 3 seconds of your videos are crucial. You can use dramatic footage, an unknown landscape, fly over a majestic landscape or use captivating audio. Anything that’s ‘out of the norm’ will do the trick.
• Ask questions: Travel videos are generally one-sided. The content creator presents content and the viewers watch and listen. Asking questions makes viewers active participants in your videos. The more engaging the question, the better. Asking, “Can you travel around the world using $100?” is a more engaging question than, “Did you know you can travel on a budget?”
• Use teasers: At various points during your video, you can tease what’s coming next in that video (or in future ones). This gives people a reason to keep watching.

Travel Planning And Research

Planning and research play a huge part in creating engaging travel videos.

When planning, the first thing to consider is how you’ll differentiate your travel content.

Most travel videos explore common tourist areas, markets and well-known landscapes.

What if you go off the beaten path? Could you show your audience unique and lesser-known destinations or experiences? Sharing hidden gems will make your content different.

Are there any local festivals or hidden culinary delights your viewers must try?

You can also create travel itineraries for your viewers.

Here you’re not only providing your audience with visual walkthroughs of attractions. You’re also telling them the best order to visit them.

If you can create plans for different numbers of days in a city, (for example, 3 days in Paris, 5 days in Sicily) that will be even better.

How To Capture Great Travel Footage

Another way to stand out is to have variety in your travel footage.

Most people show a zoomed-in version of whatever they’re filming (and stick to it throughout the video). Instead, try this: don’t always stay too close to your subject.

People love seeing different points of view. You achieve this through varying shot lengths.

You might want to start with close-ups of food, crafts or architecture. Then, zoom out to show the big picture.

You can even have talking head videos (where a person is talking on camera). Then at various moments, you overlay B-roll footage of an attraction you’re talking about.

Two other crucial factors are lighting and audio.

Natural lighting is the best type of lighting. Usually, the golden hour (when the sun is rising and setting) offers excellent opportunities to film travel videos.

Your audio is another critical factor.

Use a portable microphone if possible to capture the best quality sound.

This little touch goes a long way when filming outdoors – especially if the video has background noise (including wind, waves, or crowds).

Increasing Audience Engagement

Creating YouTube content means you’re not publishing videos for yourself. You’re doing it primarily for your audience.

You want people to engage time and time again with your content. This engagement can become the foundation of a travel community.

Over time, you want your viewers to look forward to your content. You want them to watch, like, subscribe and comment.

As you build a community of like-minded people, ensure you have calls to action in your videos. These should match whatever you’re trying to achieve.

As night draws in, look up at star-spangled skies as you retreat to unique hideaways, from underground hobbit houses to luxe treehouses. Here's how best to experience Ohio's Hocking Hills.

Soar like a hawk among the treetops with Hocking Hills Canopy Tours . Plunging you into the wilds of Hocking Hills, cables and sky bridges send you soaring above forest, cliffs, waterfalls and the rushing Hocking River. If you want to ramp up the adventure, go for the cross-country X-Tour or the head-first SuperZip, picking up speeds of up to 50mph.  

For a deep dive into nature, Hocking Hills State Park beckons, with primeval forest that is a riot of colour in autumn and an impressive collection of caves. Top billing goes to the horseshoe-shaped Old Man’s Cave, where falls plummet into a crystal-blue pool. The cave takes its name from 18th-century hermit Richard Rowe, who lived in its depths. Alternatively, hike the five-mile loop trail to the Whispering Cave — a whisper is said to be heard 300 feet away on the other side of the cave. Trail maps and information on the park’s geology are available at the Old Man’s Cave parking lot.

Hocking Hills has extra sparkle at night, and the region draws keen stargazers with some of the country’s darkest night skies. The John Glenn Astronomy Park — around a mile west of Old Man’s Cave — is a great spot. On clear nights you’ll be dazzled by star clusters, bright planets, comets, meteor showers and the spray of the Milky Way. See the website for Friday and Saturday evening events, where you can peer through a giant telescope, with astronomers on hand to interpret.

If you’ve ever fancied rock climbing, Hocking Hills is the place. Climbers are in their element, with sandstone cliffs rising high above the tree canopy. Rappelling and rock climbing are available here, with routes for all levels traversing cliffs and pinnacles, through narrow rock walls and over boulders. High Rock Adventures provides all the gear as well as professional guides.

Not all adventure is fast-paced. Bounded by lush forest, the gently flowing Hocking River sets the scene for mellow trips by kayak or canoe. Excursions from Hocking Hills Canoe Livery range from easy, family-friendly rafting trips to five- or seven-mile kayak and canoe paddles for groups, couples or solo paddlers. Listening to the splash of water and trill of birds as you float along offers peace and solitude.

If you have time, family-run distillery Hocking Hills Moonshine takes you back to the Prohibition bootlegger era with ‘shine that will knock your socks off’ (and tours to see how it's made). Only the brave dare try the 151 proof Buckeye Thunder.

Where to stay

From back-to-nature campgrounds and riverside cabins to glamping tepees, Hocking Hills has plenty of unique places to bed down. For something special, the green-certified Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls has yurts, luxury lodges and rustic cabins with porch swings and geodesic domes immersed in greenery. Elsewhere, at the Valley View Hills Winery , cabins come with hot tubs and firepits, and chardonnays and malbecs are paired with stone-fired pizza. For romance at a bird’s-eye level, opt for the architecturally striking Treehouse Cabins . Or for a hobbit fantasy, stay in a cave at the Magical Earth Retreat .

Where to eat

Southern barbecue at Millstone and the famous hash, hand-cut noodles and all-day breakfast at old-school diner M & M — Hocking Hills’ food scene fires you up for the outdoors. The small town of Logan is a hub for gourmet coffee and freshly prepared paninis, stop by Hocking Hills Coffee Emporium for an authentic experience. Kindred Spirits restaurant at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls offers fine dining in 1840s log cabins and a seasonal menu of Italian-inspired dishes like steamed clams in tomato broth.

Chiricahua National Monument celebrates 100 years with free tours, guided hikes

Chiricahua National Monument was established on April 18, 1924, by President Calvin Coolidge to protect the “Wonderland of Rocks” in southeastern Arizona that includes an 8-mile scenic drive and 17 miles of hiking trails.

Spanning over 12,025 acres in the Chiricahua Mountains southeast of Willcox, Chiricahua National Monument is celebrating its centennial with a slate of events Thursday through Saturday, April 18-20.

On Thursday there will be a commemoration ceremony; on Friday, a living history experience at Faraway Ranch; and on Saturday there will be a guided bird walk and a “Story Behind the Scenery: Geology Chiricahua Style” program.

Here’s what to know about Chiricahua National Monument's centennial celebration and how you can take part.

Thursday, April 18: The commemoration ceremony is at 2 p.m. at Faraway Ranch, the former homestead in the monument. Local and national dignitaries will be in attendance. Music starts at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. Faraway Ranch House and Stafford Cabin will be open for self-guided tours from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Friday, April 19: The living history event is 1-4 p.m. at Faraway Ranch. Staff in 1920s and '30s clothing will share what life was like in Bonita Canyon 100 years ago. Faraway Ranch House and Stafford Cabin will be open for self-guided tours from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 20: A guided bird walk is from 9-11 a.m. in the Bonita Creek Picnic Area. Visitors can observe birds, identifying them by sight, sound and habitat. Bring water, sun protection and binoculars. The 30-minute “Story Behind the Scenery: Geology Chiricahua Style” program will be presented on the hour from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Massai Point.

Chiricahua National Monument centennial shuttle and parking info

The visitor center will be open 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. during the centennial celebration. There will be no hiker shuttle service April 18 and 19.

On April 18 and 19, Massai Point, Echo Canyon and Sugarloaf parking lots will be open. Faraway Ranch parking lot will be closed with an exception for vehicles with a disability plate or placard.

Centennial event parking will be available just outside the park entrance. Free shuttles will stop at Faraway Ranch and the visitor center.

On April 20, all parking lots will be open. A hiker shuttle will be provided from Faraway Ranch to Echo Canyon parking lot on the hour from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and from Echo Canyon parking lot to Faraway Ranch on the half hour from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

On all three days, vehicles over 24 feet, trailers and horses are prohibited except for vehicles and trailers with a campground reservation.

Do you have to pay to get into Chiricahua National Monument?

No. Chiricahua National Monument is free to enter. There's a fee for camping in Bonito Canyon Campground.

Just a Few of the Biggest Concert Tours of 2024, from Olivia Rodrigo to Bad Bunny

Listening to your favorite musician at home is fun, but there's nothing quite like the experience of singing along with them, and tons of more fans, live. And as luck would have it, 2024 is shaping up to be a massive year for some of the world's top musical acts, so chances are your favorite performer might be stopping at a city near you soon.

Ahead, we rounded up some of the biggest concert tours of 2024, ranging from Taylor Swift's mega-popular Eras Tour to Drake and J. Cole's exciting It's All A Blur Tour - Big as the What?—set to kick off this winter. You can also expect tour dates from classic icons like Stevie Nicks, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and more.

1) Taylor Swift

Undoubtedly one of the biggest concert tours ever, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour will continue right through 2024. The international leg of the tour kicked off in Japan, where she played four shows in Tokyo. She'll also stop in Melbourne, Singapore, Paris, Madrid, London, Milan, and more before returning to the States to play in the fall.

There's nothing like seeing T. Swift IRL, but don't fret if you're unable to nab tickets—the Eras Tour movie is now available to stream from the comfort of your home.

2) Olivia Rodrigo

This is not a drill—"Drivers License" singer Olivia Rodrigo will be hitting the road on tour starting at the end of February. The Guts World Tour runs from February through mid-August and has dates in Nashville, Toronto, Chicago, and New York City, among others. Even cooler? Rodrigo will have a stacked list of special guests—like PinkPantheress, Remi Wolf, The Breeders, and Chappell Roan—with her.

3) Red Hot Chili Peppers

Did you hear the good news? The Red Hot Chili Peppers have extended their global tour through summer 2024. The buzzy stadium tour, which kicked off in June 2022, will now run until July 2024 and bring the California-based band to places like Los Angeles, Tampa, Toronto, and Salt Lake City.

4) Bad Bunny

It's fitting that "Monaco" rapper Bad Bunny titled his tour Most Wanted —it's slated to be one of the year's hottest tours. Planned to help promote his latest studio album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana , Most Wanted will kick off in Salt Lake City on February 21 and run through May 26.

5) Billy Joel

If you haven't yet seen Billy Joel perform live, there's still time! The Piano Man has added more tour dates to his schedule, stopping in cities like Tampa, New York, Denver, and St. Louis this year. Even more exciting? He'll share the stage with fellow iconic performers Sting and Stevie Nicks for some of these dates.

Mitski recently announced that she's expanding her North American tour dates , and we couldn't be more excited. The months-long tour, which supports her 2023 studio album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, has a long list of stops, including Miami Beach, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Paris.

There's nothing quite like a Madonna concert, that's for sure. The singer's Celebration Tour , which started last October, continues straight through the spring with dates in Seattle, San Francisco, Mexico City, and more. Besides her eye-catching sets, chart-topping songs, and impressive choreography, concertgoers also get a glimpse of the performer's fantastic costumes, which include looks from Versace and Jean Paul Gaultier.

8) Bleachers

The New Jersey-founded rock band, which is fronted by Jack Antonoff—known for producing albums for top acts like Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lana Del Rey—not only has announced a new album but a new tour , too. The tour will start in the UK in March, ending fittingly in the band's home state of New Jersey in mid-June. Check out their newly released music video for "Tiny Moves" if you need a Bleachers fix in the meantime.

9) Nicki Minaj

Nicki fans rejoice: the rapper and singer might be coming to a city near you soon as part of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour. The massive tour will include performances in Brooklyn, Oakland, and Baltimore, with stops at Dreamville Festival and Rolling Loud California along the way.

10) Blink 182

Live out all of your nineties and early aughts pop-punk dreams with one of Blink 182's One More Time Tour dates. The tour, which supports the band's ninth studio album, One More Time..., will bring the trio to cities all over the globe, including Sydney, Santiago, Portland, and Boston. The tour's supporting act is Pierce the Veil, which is also worth checking out.

11) Stevie Nicks

The oh-so-magical Stevie Nicks continues her touring streak with a bunch of 2024 concert dates . Set to begin in Atlantic City, NJ on February 10, Nicks will visit a dozen cities throughout the U.S. this year, such as New Orleans, Omaha, and Chicago. "Let's keep this party going in 2024," the singer-songwriter posted on her Instagram in September to announce the newly added tour dates.

12) The 1975

The 1975 is showing no signs of slowing down. The British band, famous for hits like "Somebody Else" and "Robbers," has extended their 2023 tour through 2024. Titled Still...At Their Very Best , the 22-date tour will open in Glasgow on February 8 and conclude in Amsterdam on March 24.

13) Drake and J. Cole

Rap greats Drake and J. Cole come together for the It's All a Blur Tour – Big As the What? which is guaranteed to be a good time. Drake, fresh off his 2023 It's All a Blur tour with 21 Savage, is set to hit dozens of cities starting in February, many of which J. Cole will also be in tow for. Scoop up tickets ASAP, as Drake's shows are known to sell out.

14) Janet Jackson

Superstar Janet Jackson is also extending her 2023 tour, Together Again , into 2024 with dates in Anaheim, Austin, New Orleans, and Hartford. Even cooler? Jackson's supporting act is the 2000s southern rap legend Nelly.

15) Rolling Stones

If you've ever dreamed of seeing the Rolling Stones perform live in person, now's your chance. The iconic rockers, who released their studio album Hackney Diamonds this past fall, are returning on the road for a 16-date tour with shows throughout the United States and Canada. Concertgoers can expect a mix of new tunes and Stones classics.

16) Bruce Springsteen

Famous for countless listenable hits like "Born to Run" and "Glory Days," Bruce Springsteen is set to embark on a massive world tour this year with his band, The E Street Band. The much-anticipated tour will take the Boss and his crew to cities such as Phoenix, San Diego, Dublin, and Madrid, from March through November.

17) John Mayer

Be sure to catch John Mayer's solo tour this year, which will bring the guitarist and crooner to cities throughout Europe. This leg, an extension of his popular 2023 solo tour, will kick off in Stockholm on March 13 and finish in Dublin on March 29.

18) Shania Twain

Okay, this one is technically a residency , but we're excited nonetheless. Shania Twain, most known for her incredible outfits (her hooded leopard print look, anyone?) and hits like "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" is setting up shop in Vegas starting May 10. Twain's residency will take place at the Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood on and off throughout December 2024.

All good things must come to an end. The Eagles, known for "Hotel California" and other amazing rock songs, began their final concert tour this winter. It launched in Phoenix on January 20, with March 16 as its last date in the United States. Eagles fans won't want to miss this one.

20) Alanis Morisette: The Triple Moon Tour

Alanis Morisette joins forces with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts for their 2024 Triple Moon Tour , which has dates in North America and Canada. This tour is a great one to catch this summer, as it's slated to run from June through August.

Kitchen shears are about as essential and versatile a tool in your knife collection as a chef’s knife. I reach for mine to have the utmost control in breaking down a chicken, removing fins from a fish, snipping herbs, or powering through cutting a pile of vegetables. And while they might look similar to the scissors you keep in your junk drawer, they’re actually quite different: Kitchen shears are ambidextrous. Their finger holes are the same size, so they can be used comfortably whether you’re right- or left-handed, and their balanced shape makes it easier to take on tougher tasks than what your usual scissors can handle.

Treated with the same respect as your favorite chef’s knife, a good pair of kitchen shears can easily last your lifetime (and beyond). That said, you want a pair that can take wear and tear — so for this assignment, I put a dozen pairs through the usual kitchen prep and tasks far beyond the conventional. I used them to garden, snipping dead twigs and cutting open plastic planter pots containing evergreen trees. I cut through flat-iron steaks and spatchcock chickens, and also used them to cut thick fabric, because why not? And, of course, I ran most of them through the dishwasher many times.

To round out the list, I polled chefs from all over the country, asking them to open up their knife kits and tell me about the scissors that they bring with them wherever they go. Chef Jeremy Umansky of Cleveland’s Larder has an heirloom pair that has likely been prepping vegetables since before he was born. “I’ve got a pair from Le Cordon Bleu, from their school kit! They look like something a surgeon in the Civil War would have used,” he told me. My favorite pair, perfect for small hands, travels with me between my home kitchen and professional kitchens. Like my toothbrush, they’re sort of like my “don’t leave home without it” item, except they definitely won’t make it through a TSA checkpoint.

What we’re looking for

Kitchen shears are generally made of stainless steel, since they are often exposed to moisture and would otherwise rust. Handles are sometimes coated with plastic or rubber for cushioning fingers — and for pairs that have a handle covering, I’ve indicated which kind. Fully stainless-steel shears can last longer than those with rubber- or plastic-covered handles, but might require a bit more dexterity.

Kitchen shears come in two styles: with fixed blades or blades that pull apart. Handles fall into two categories, as well: D-shaped and oval. Which style you choose will depend on how you intend to use them. If you know you’ll be cutting through piles of firm vegetables like asparagus stems, a fixed blade would be best, and if you prefer to run your shears through the dishwasher after cutting meats, you’ll want to look for a pull-apart blade for ease of cleaning and sanitizing.

The length of the scissors can determine the task they’re best suited for. Generally, lengths range from six to nine inches. If you plan on cutting delicate herbs, you’ll want shorter shears, and if you are breaking down poultry, you’ll likely want longer shears.

WÜSTHOF is a legendary brand that’s famous for its knives — not to mention the brand that makes our best knife set overall . And so it’s no surprise that WÜSTHOF’s brushed stainless-steel kitchen shears are favored by many professional chefs and unanimously received the most mentions. When I tested them, I loved how easy they were to pull apart and clean, and that they never separated in my hands during the toughest kitchen tasks. They also have a satisfying tension when you’re snipping with them, which gives your fingers more control.

Don’t just take it from me. According to chef Jeremiah Langhorne of the Dabney and Petite Cerise in D.C., the shears are “very high quality, keep their sharpness well, can be sharpened, and are very versatile.” Chef Diana Widjojo of Philadelphia’s Rice & Sambal also reaches for this pair constantly, using them to cut through everything from snow-crab legs to spatchcock chickens. “I’ve had them for years and I use them weekly for cutting herbs, mostly, but also for nontraditional things,” she told me, adding that she even uses them to pull fish bones out if she can’t find her tweezers. The fact that you can take them apart and thoroughly sanitize them is a big plus in her book too.

Chef Chris Morgan of Joon in Vienna, Virginia, is also a fan, and owns a couple of pairs of WÜSTHOF shears. “I don’t usually lean German with my kitchen tools, but I found these are really durable,” he says. “They’ve lasted me a really long time. I use them for poultry and meats, larger fish with thick fins, and any backbone work.” Langhorne, Widjojo, and Morgan are just a few of the chefs I polled who reach for their WÜSTHOF shears. Other chefs told me that they use them to strip stems off flowers and even cut tarts. Overall, this pair was hands down the most well made, easy to use, and versatile — earning them our crown of best overall.

If you’re looking to spend less, take note from Langhorne, who told me that while he usually goes for his WÜSTHOF stainless-steel shears, “for a more affordable option I really like Joyce Chen’s scissors.” (Langhorne’s one caveat about the pair is that the plastic handles don’t last as long as uncoated stainless-steel handles.) Melissa Pellegrino of Heavy Metal Sausage Co. is also a fan of the shears. “Joyce Chen’s are our daily drivers in the shop. We use them mostly for cutting sausage ropes into individual links, but they are so versatile. They can be used for cutting delicate things like herbs up to cutting through small fish or chicken-rib bones. They are more durable than you would expect for a small scissor and their size makes them easy to keep close by. They are also just really comfortable to use.” My husband, who is also a professional chef, keeps a pair of Joyce Chen’s shears in his knife kit primarily for cutting twine for meats and kitchen tape for labels. When you’re labeling quart containers a hundred times a day, having this lightweight pair on standby to cut kitchen tape is helpful and makes neat labeling less of a chore.

Yes, these are technically sewing scissors, but when it comes to cutting delicate flowers and herbs in the kitchen, nothing else is faster. Rather than slipping my fingers through holes, I just pinch these shears’ pincer handles, allowing for delicate, rapid motions. Though these come in a couple different formats (with or without threads), mine are wrapped in white-and-red thread for grip. Just don’t put these in the dishwasher — I recommend washing with a soft sponge and letting them air-dry.

“I use sewing shears to clean all my herbs,” says chef and culinary consultant Christine Lau . “These make it super, super fast to pick and cut herbs.” Lau told me she first discovered hers at a center for textiles in Hong Kong, but that they’re now available everywhere. “I like them because they stay super sharp — and you can sharpen them,” she says. “They have a small, pointy tip so you can get to the base of the herb where you want to pick quickly and accurately.” She adds that the U-shape of these lets you focus on cutting the herbs using just your thumb and forefinger.

I spent a week with these Cangshan shears and used them to trim hedges in my backyard and cut plastic planters of four newly purchased evergreen trees in half. Then, after thoroughly sanitizing them, I used them to trim the fins off a side of salmon I was breaking down for dinner. For all of these tasks, I found that this pair performed beautifully and didn’t hurt my hands, thanks to the no-slip rubber grips. And while my hands are on the small side, these are comfortable for all sizes. My husband, a chef whose hands are larger than mine, tried them, too, and told me, “I feel like I can do anything with these.” Indeed, this pair is built to do just about anything: They have a nut or crab-leg cracker serration in between the handles and a hollowed-out notch in one blade for opening jars or bottles.

For years, I used a cheap KitchenAid pair of kitchen shears, and they were generally fine, but using them for long periods of time caused my hands to ache — which I thought was normal. That is, until trying these from Ciselier. They are handmade by Fennek, a Premanese scissor-maker founded in 1895. They feel remarkably hard and durable, like I can use them to cut up any chicken (and I have), and they pull apart easily for cleaning. They’re lightweight without feeling flimsy and they’ve stayed sharp through two years of constant, heavy-duty use in both professional and home kitchens. There are built-in serrated notches to crack nuts and a smooth circle in the middle of the design to open bottles. And, most importantly, they don’t hurt my small hands after hours of use.

“I like Silkies because they are a bit more sturdy, and they fit into my hands best,” says chef Brandon Dienger of two-Michelin-starred Jônt in Washington, D.C., who stands at six-foot-three and has large hands to match his height. “They also keep their sharpness.” The pair is a go-to for chef Yun Fuentes of Philadelphia’s Bolo , as well. “They have proven sharp enough to trim herbs as well as tough enough to handle fish bone,” he says. “These particular scissors are compact and contour to your hand, making them a great and useful tool when attention to detail is essential.”

These Hammer Stahl shears are surprisingly lightweight, which will come in handy for anyone using shears for long periods of time (or who has joint pain in their hands). They’re on the longer side — which makes them appropriate for bigger tasks like breaking down poultry or trimming sides of salmon — with excellent no-slip grips and uniquely sharp and pointy tips.

I made my husband use them for a few kitchen services, and we determined that they comfortably accommodate both my tiny hands and his larger ones. While I may not have the same dexterity with them as he might, they still get the job done. Plus, I liked how versatile these are. You can pull them apart, and a single blade can be flipped around and used to scale fish. The other blade has a notch to open bottles and jars. The notches between the handles can be used as a nutcracker.

Scottie Scheffler’s Tiger-like stat, Ludvig Aberg’s amazing food feat, and why Max Homa is the PGA Tour’s husband of the year

Welcome to another edition of The Grind, where we once again didn’t win the Masters Monday media lottery, but we did get to drown our sorrows in a delicious press room azalea:

Damn, that was good. And congrats to my boss, Sam Weinman, on (finally) getting to play the course after two decades of covering the event. He took juuuuuust a few more strokes than Scottie Scheffler needed on Sunday.

OK, let’s time to talk about Scottie and everything else that happened during a wild week at Augusta National. That is, if I can type it all out while battling Georgia peach ice cream sandwich withdrawals.

WE’RE BUYING

Scottie Scheffler: What can you say? Brandel Chamblee predicted he’d win by eight so winning by four almost seems like a bad week.

Of course, we kid, but this is getting pretty ridiculous right now. With Scheffler winning green jacket No. 2 we haven’t seen this dominant of a World No. 1 since Tiger Woods back in 2006-2007.

The guy never has a bad week. Heck, he never even has a bad day. And now, in a little more than two years, he has two Masters, two Players Championships and nine PGA Tour titles overall. It’s Scotty SZN, y’all. And outside of baby No. 1 coming, it doesn’t look like his reign is ending anytime soon.

Ludvig Aberg: What a fantastic performance by a guy who wasn’t just a Masters rookie but making his major championship debut. I mean, to go to Taco Bell AND Chipotle on the same day of the Masters final round? That’s amazing.

Of course, in addition to Aberg eating well, the 24-year-old Swede played well. So well in fact that we got pretty close to the first fast-casual catered Champions Dinner. Aberg finished runner-up to Scheffler, or, to put it differently, he was the low pro for the week in the non-Scheffler division. This guy has a bright future—and hopefully, one of those Chipotle gold cards.

Local caddies: A couple weeks ago, I tweeted after Justin Thomas broke up with Jim “Bones” Mackay that I’d love to see a PGA Tour pro use local caddies for an entire year and see how his results stacked up. Well, with his normal caddie sick, Tommy Fleetwood tried one out at the Masters with former Augusta National caddie master Gray Moore. And he finished T-3!

Keep in mind Fleetwood had never finished better than T-17 in seven previous Masters starts. Sorry, tour caddies, but I really might be onto something here! And congrats to Gray on earning a nice check. I’m guessing he didn’t celebrate at Chipotle.

WE’RE SELLING

Rory McIlroy: This isn’t as much about McIlroy’s T-22 in his ninth failed attempt to complete the career Grand Slam as it is about him ruining a certain Masters party. Enter Cody Dubose, who passed out $50 wagers on Rory to all his guests, an amazing gesture that could have created a rocking party.

But by the time CBS even came on the air over the weekend, McIlroy wasn’t even close to contention. Talk about killing the vibe.

Tiger Woods on the weekend: For a third consecutive year, Tiger made the cut at the Masters. And for a third consecutive year, he struggled mightily over the weekend at Augusta National. That included a Masters-worst score of 82 on Saturday and a triple bogey on Sunday while on his way to shooting 76.

Woods remained optimistic that he’ll try to play one tournament a month and fans were happy to hear he plans to play in the other three majors this year, but it’s fair to ask if his body can hold up for four rounds anymore. And it’s fair to assume that his fans aren’t having much fun watching him finish DFL when he does. At least we got to see this great moment as Tiger went over to say goodbye to Verne Lundquist at 16:

It’s getting dusty in here!

Jason Day’s new style: From the parachute pants on Friday to this ‘busy’ vest on Friday, the Aussie caused everyone watching to turn into a fashion critic:

And the vest was so bad that Augusta National went as far as to ask him to take it off , which Day did. Probably because he didn’t mind taking that fabric billboard off. It was a pretty wild move by the club, but it was also a pretty wild thing to wear. But shout-out to Malbon, because there’s no way they actually think that looks good and it must have been a brilliant marketing move. And if it was, they’re playing chess, not checkers.

The PGA Tour rolls on with the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town, AKA that place with the lighthouse on No. 18. And this is a big deal with the tournament being one of the tour’s signature events. It’s an interesting move having one of these the week after the freaking Masters, but it’s great for golf fans as we’ll be treated to another fantastic field. And that’s not all. We’ve also got the first major of the LPGA season, the Chevron Championship, to watch. Although Nelly Korda, on a four(!)-tournament win streak, seems like a bigger lock to win than even Scottie was.

Random tournament fact: The last time a player entered a major off four straight LPGA wins was Annika Sorenstam at the 2005 Chevron Championship. She went on to win by EIGHT shots.

Rory McIlroy squashed that ridiculous rumor about him going to LIV for $850 million. It would have been Rahm giving Rory a hostile attitude if he got twice as much money as he did. . . .
