Situated on the River Avon, Warwick is the principal town of the English county of Warwickshire and has been dominated for more than 900 years by its spectacular c astle .

Today, you can find many fun places to visit and attractions to enjoy in this picturesque old town. The market town's most popular tourist attraction, Warwick Castle is a massive battlement-crowned fortress that can trace its roots all the way back to the time of William the Conquerer.

Completed around 1068, it is reached via the former stable yard and adjoining moat, where visitors are faced with an extensive area of parkland that boasts a number of gardens, among them a peacock reserve and rose garden.

The inner courtyard is entered through the imposing 14th-century Gatehouse , where visitors will first notice the castle's walls and towers, which stand up to 131 feet high in places. The fortifications themselves date from the 16th century, with major renovations having taken place in the 17th and 18th centuries. At this time, the castle became the country seat of local nobility, and its magnificent collection of furniture, porcelain, sculptures, and paintings also date from this period.

Fast forward to the 21st century, and today Warwick Castle is considered one of the UK's top tourist attractions. Other notable features within the castle include unique interactive experiences, the 14th-century Castle Dungeon , and a full-scale working siege machine (trebuchet).

It's also home to the country's second largest collection of old weapons and armor as welded and worn by knights of old, and a wax model museum designed by London's Madame Tussauds.

A new addition just for kids is the fun Horrible Histories maze. Based on the bestselling history books and TV shows, youngsters must find their way through the maze while facing such challenges as boarding a Viking vessel and surviving the trenches of WWI.

Many of the streets in Warwick's old town still have attractive 17th- and 18th-century buildings that will appeal to tourists.

Points of interest include the Court House with its Georgian ballroom, Landor House, and the lovely Shire Hall with its octagonal tower lantern. The West Gate has been retained from the old town walls, and guilds have assembled in the early-Gothic St. James' Chapel since 1383.

Located in the very heart of the Old Town on Warwick High Street, the Lord Leycester Hospital consists of a series of magnificent half-timbered medieval buildings that date as far back as 1383. Named after a benevolent local aristocrat, the buildings became a charitable home for aging soldiers and their spouses in 1571.

While still serving this purpose, much of the complex is open to visitors and is often used for various ceremonies, private functions, and even as a film set. A must-do is to book a meal in the Brethren's Kitchen, a superb eatery that's been serving up great meals (and high teas) for over 500 years.

Be sure to also visit the attraction's Master's Garden. Tucked away behind the Lord Leycester Hospital, this attractive garden has been a cultivated place of peace and serenity for more than 500 years. You'll also see a section of the old town wall that hems the garden in.

Editor's note: Lord Leycester Hospital is closed for refurbishment until the summer of 2023.

Known affectionately to locals as St. Nick's, St. Nicholas' Park is a Warwick point of interest that's well worth a visit. If you can squeeze this large 40-acre public green space into your Warwick travel itinerary, the short walk from the castle is well worth doing. If you're driving, there's also plenty of parking on-site.

Amenities guests can enjoy include the town's leisure center, including an indoor swimming pool, as well as a "children's corner" featuring a mini-fairground with fun rides that's suitable for kids up to age 12. Also available for families to enjoy are an outdoor paddling pool and mini-golf.

Hill Close Gardens is a delightful network of 16 fully-restored Victorian gardens, with high hedges between the quaint summerhouses, old fruit trees, and heritage flowerbeds.

Notable as the only surviving gardens of this type in the UK, it's a remarkable opportunity to step back in time while enjoying what would once have been the pride of Victorian families who purchased plots of land outside the town center to indulge their passion for gardening.

Set overlooking the popular Warwick Racecourse , visitors can also choose from a wide selection of plants and historic varieties of fruit and vegetables available for sale. The visitor center offers refreshments at the tearoom plus exhibits about sustainable gardening practices. Built in 1443, the Collegiate Church of St. Mary was reconstructed after a 1694 fire with help from Christopher Wren.

The most splendid feature of this must-visit historic attraction is the Beauchamp Tower on the south side of the choir, which can be climbed. While admission to the church is free, a small fee is charged for the privilege of climbing the tower, but is worth it for the great views.

The tomb of the church's founder, Richard de Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick (1381-1439), is located in the middle of the chapel. His spectacular marble sarcophagus features 14 gilded copper mourners made by medieval sculptor John Massingham. The tomb of the Earl of Leicester, a favorite of Elizabeth I, is also here.

Other notable features include the choir. Completed in 1394, it's where you'll see finely carved choir stalls (1449), a cedilla, an Easter Sepulcher, and the tomb of Thomas Beauchamp (d. 1369). The church's ancient Norman crypt dates from 1123.

Informative guided tours are available. There's also a shop located on-site, and for a small fee, you can create (and take home) your own brass rubbing. Concerts and organ recitals are also held here frequently.

The Warwickshire Museum is really two excellent attractions in one: the Market Hall Museum and St. John's House (you can read more about the latter below). The Market Hall is itself somewhat of a Warwick landmark, and has dominated the Old Town since being built in the 1600s.

Originally constructed as a shelter for traders doing business in the once thriving market held here, it's now home to an extensive early history collection covering archaeology, social history, geology, and natural history.

In addition to the building itself, highlights include its famous Irish Deer skeleton plus a large stuffed bear, and the 16th-century Sheldon Tapestry. Displays and exhibits show how the building itself was used over the centuries, including a tiny room that once served as a city jail cell.

Time here is certainly well-spent, and it's widely considered one of the top free things to do in Warwick. A gift shop is located on the premises.

While much of The Warwickshire Museum's large collection is kept in the city's historic Market Hall, the museum's Jacobean home, St. John's House , boasts a number of other exhibits of interest to sightseers. These include fascinating reconstructions of a Victorian kitchen and classroom (the mansion once served as a school house), along with exhibits of period costumes, toys, dolls, and games.

Also located in St. John's House and well worth a visit is the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Museum (Royal Warwickshire ). Highlights include displays focusing on the regiment's storied history, numerous weapons and artifacts, and an impressive collection of medals.

Royal Leamington Spa lies only two miles east of Warwick and is famous for its wonderful medicinal springs and gardens. While enjoying this popular day trip from Warwick, tourists can take a stroll through the attractive glasshouses and flowerbeds at Jephson Garden or visit the splendid Royal Pump Room Gardens with its art gallery and café.

One of the other popular things to do here is to simply wander the town's idyllic tree-lined avenues, with their Victorian and Georgian architecture, stopping to enjoy the numerous specialty shops and restaurants. Just four miles east of Stratford-upon-Avon and six miles south of Warwick, Charlecote Park is perhaps most famous for its connection to Shakespeare. Legend has it the Bard was supposed to have been caught poaching here, and after receiving a lashing as punishment, went on to lampoon his captor in the somewhat laughable justice of the peace in Henry IV.

Visiting this delightful (and very large) Tudor mansion today is a treat. Highlights include some of the best preserved Victorian-era décor and furnishings in England, as the home was extensively refurbished during the 19th century. Of special interest is the huge and ornately decorated library and the still operating Victorian kitchen.

Also of note is the perfectly preserved laundry house from the same period, along with a tack room and a fine display of historic carriages. The extensive gardens and grounds are also well worth exploring.

Situated on the banks of the River Avon and butting up against the outer walls of Warwick Castle towering high above it, the delightful Mill Garden is a must-see for gardeners, as well as those who appreciate a great view.

Although measuring just a half acre in size, this privately owned and extremely picturesque garden has become something of an icon, due as much to its incredible location as the hard work that went into its construction over a 60 year period that started in 1938. Spending some quiet time here will reward visitors not just with views of the castle walls, but also the ancient Old Castle Bridge (now ruins), as well as a number of swans who nest nearby.

A highlight of a visit to the gardens is the walk down Mill Street. Just a few minutes' walk away from the eastern gateway leading into the castle, this picturesque street curves gently down towards the Avon River and is lined by beautifully preserved (and extremely photogenic) old half-timbered homes.

Although part of a busy roadway into Warwick, it's worthwhile making the short walk from the medieval town center to the "new" bridge across the River Avon. It's easily accessible from St. Nicholas Park. Here, you'll be rewarded with some of the most spectacular views of Warwick Castle and the river. You'll be in good company, as this is also a favorite spot for photographers.

Afterwards, take a slight detour to Bridge End . This charming row of houses features a number of half-timbered and stone buildings dating from the late Middle Ages.

You can in fact access the River Avon from a number of locations in Warwick. One of the best spots to enjoy the river, also called the Upper Avon or Warwickshire Avon, is from St. Nicholas Park.

From the park entrance, head in the opposite direction of its main facilities to the banks of the river. Sheltered by trees and delightfully green, peaceful, and quiet, the riverside trail affords splendid views over this most famous of English rivers.

And don't be shy to stop awhile on one of the many benches that line the river. Better still, bring a blanket and a picnic, as this picturesque riverbank setting makes for a romantic picnic spot for couples and families alike. Afterwards, you can follow the river for a mile or so towards Royal Leamington Spa .

Tucked beside the New Avon Bridge, the friendly folks at Warwick Boats offer a variety of fun ways to explore the river. For families wanting a great river-view of the castle, hop aboard one of the fun swan- or dragon-themed pedalos and head under the bridge, camera at the ready. Those wanting a more challenging experience can rent a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard for a few hours to explore the river. Motorboats are also available for hire.

Now housed in the refurbished Trinity Mews building on Priory Road, the Museum of The Queen's Royal Hussars offers a fascinating look at one of the country's most decorated army regiments.

The museum's impressive collection provides a comprehensive history of the regiment, from its foundation in the 17th century to the present time, including displays dealing with its role in the Battle of Waterloo. Guided tours are available.

15 Best Things to Do in Warwick (Warwickshire, England)

Warwickshire’s county town is a genteel sort of place on the River Avon, dating back to the start of the 10th century.

Warwick was founded by the sister of the Anglo-Saxon King Edward the Elder, and in 1088 became the seat of the Earls of Warwick.

Their castle is an icon of 14th-century military architecture but also a rip-roaring day out for families.

Warwick suffered a fire at the end of the 17th century, and its terraces of flat-fronted townhouses all followed, along with monuments like the Market Hall and the Collegiate Church of St Mary, in a backdated Gothic style.

An older survivor is the 14th-century Lord Leycester Hospital, while one stop on the train is Royal Leamington Spa, a distinguished Regency resort.

Let’s explore the best things to do in Warwick :

1. Warwick Castle

First raised by William the Conqueror during the Norman Conquest, Warwick Castle has kept its 14th-century military architecture intact.

The wing of the castle facing the town was reinforced during the 100 Years’ War, and the iconic Caesar’s and Guy’s Towers still stand guard.

Borrowing from French castle design, both are machicolated, while the Caesar’s Tower has a double parapet.

After the 17th century the castle no longer had a military use and became a palatial residence for the powerful Earls of Warwick, with gardens designed by Capability Brown.

The Great Hall and State Rooms testify to the wealth of the Earls, while the ramparts and towers have distant views over the Warwickshire countryside.

The castle is operated by the Merlin Entertainment (a theme park brand) and puts on jousting tournaments in summer, birds of prey demonstrations and has an 18-metre trebuchet hurling flaming rocks.

2. Mill Garden

This adorable half-acre garden is wedged between the Avon and Warwick Castle.

Mill Garden has been in the Measures family since 1938, and took on its design under the 60-year custodianship of Arthur Measures.

It sits on the roadway of the Old Castle Bridge, which was destroyed by a flood in the 18th century, and those surviving arches are covered with grass and flowers.

On the opposite side is the mighty Caesar’s Tower, forming a very omantic boundary.

In amongst the foliage are stone paths, plenty of benches and a hidden arbour facing the bridge ruins.

3. Lord Leycester Hospital

This magical Grade I-listed complex of half-timbered buildings has been a retirement home for former servicemen since the 16th century.

The beautiful structures go back a century before, when they were built as residences, meeting halls and dining halls for the newly combined Guilds of St George and the Blessed Virgin.

In the 17th century a banquet for King James I in the Great Hall put Warwick into debt for a whole decade.

Even older is the Chapel of St James the Great, dating to the 1380s.

You’ll be given a tour of the complex, and out into the garden, which has a 2,000-year-old stone urn from an Egyptian nilometer.

4. Collegiate Church of St Mary

Together with the castle, the 40-metre tower of this St Mary’s is a dominant feature of Warwick’s skyline.

To look at the Gothic lines of the tower and nave, you wouldn’t guess that they were built at the turn of the 18th century when the Baroque style was in fashion.

The Medieval church had largely been destroyed in the Great Fire of Warwick in 1693, but the resplendent Beauchamp Chapel survived and is a masterwork of Medieval art.

Even older is the Norman crypt, dating from the 1120s and containing one of only two original ducking stools in the UK. Be sure to climbs the 134 steps to the top of the tower for a view to treasure.

5. St Nicholas Park

This former meadow beside the Avon to the east of the castle was turned into a park for Warwick after the Second World War and abounds with leisure facilities in summer.

There’s a small Fun Park, with fairground amusements and a teacup ride, a mini-golf course, a skateboard/bmx park, a paddling pool, a leisure centre and a tea shop in a cute house with a thatched roof.

The east side of St Nicholas Park is open playing fields for football and other recreation, while the western nook has formal walks and flowerbeds.

On the Avon you’ll be able to hire rowboats or canoes, and the view of Warwick Castle over the tree line is sensational.

6. St John’s House Museum

This handsome Jacobean house close to Warwick’s town centre was started in 1626, although the site goes back much further, to the Hospital of St John the Baptist in the 12th century.

In the 17th century St John’s House was the residence of the Stoughton family, before becoming a school and then offices for the War Department in the Second World War.

The building has hosted the Warwickshire Museum since 1960, and has a Victorian classroom with preserved furniture, a Victorian kitchen and an exhibition of changing fashions through the centuries.

On the upper floor is a museum for the Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers.

7. Market Hall Museum

Warwick’s handsome market hall dates from the last decades of the 17th century, and since the middle of the 19th century has been used exhibitions of regional natural history and archaeology.

The Market Hall Museum belongs to the Warwickshire Museum, alongside St John’s House and has recently been updated with the help of Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

Don’t miss Oisin the Deer, the skeleton of a prehistoric Giant Irish Elk, a species that spread across Eurasia until around 7,700 years ago.

Also special is the Sheldon Tapestry, one of a group of 121 woven in the 1580s for the home of Ralph Sheldon.

This work takes up an entire wall at the museum and has a map of Warwickshire.

8. Hatton Locks

For an excursion into the Warwickshire countryside you could follow the towpath of the Grand Union Canal out of Warwick a couple of miles until you arrive at this flight of 21 locks, dating to 1799. The locks allowed barges laden with sugar, tea, spices and coal to negotiate a climb of 45 metres across two miles.

For workers on the barges the flight was a difficult barrier to overcome, and was nicknamed the “Stairway to Heaven” as the remainder of the journey to Birmingham was easier and workers would be paid on arrival.

The locks remain in working condition, and you’re sure to see holiday barges making their way along the flight.

9. Hill Close Gardens

On a hillside over Warwick Racecourse, Hill Close Gardens is an outdoor attraction with an intriguing past.

These were 16 individual Victorian gardens, established to afford outdoor space to people who owned townhouses that didn’t have their own gardens.

Each plot was delineated by a wall or hedge and had a gate that could be locked.

Many had pavilions and summer houses so that families could pass the entire day on their plots.

Four of these houses are now listed, and after the gardens fell into disrepair a local trust was set up to restore them to their Victorian appearance.

Each plot reflects the personality of its 19th-century owner, and there’s a nursery selling plants propagated in these gardens.

10. Royal Leamington Spa

At just four minutes on the train, there’s no reason not to make time for this elegant spa town next door to Warwick.

Royal Leamington Spa was born after its waters were claimed to have healing properties in the 18th century.

Come for the marvellous stuccoed Regency architecture that fills the centre at Lansdowne Circus, Regent Street, Clarendon Square and much of the north-south Parade.

Unsurprising given the cultivated beauty of the architecture, Leamington Spas’ properties host posh bakeries, smoothie shops, tailors, boutiques and upmarket chains like House of Fraser.

Head for the grand Royal Pump Rooms, now housing a museum on the history of the spa.

11. Jephson Gardens

One of the essential things to do in Leamington Spa is to unwind in this park on the north bank of the River Leam.

Jephson Gardens started out as an informal riverside walk for the spa’s customers in 1831, before taking on a more formal design as a Victorian pleasure gardens in 1846. From that time on, the park was a place for national flower competitions, balloon rides, boating, light displays, brass bands, croquet and archery.

Today Jephson Gardens is a yearly Green Flag winner, and has the same formal layout, with beautiful flowerbeds, more than 140 different tree species, a glasshouse, a gorgeous Victorian tea pavilion, a sensory garden and performances by brass ensembles in summer.

12. Charlecote Park

In the care of the National Trust, Charlecote Park is a striking country house going back to the mid-1500s.

In the centuries that followed, the house was altered in line with changing fashions, until the 19th century when it was returned to an Elizabethan revival style.

Outside, the magnificent gatehouse has been unchanged since the 16th century.

The queen herself stayed in the room that has since become the drawing room, while the Great Hall has four centuries of portraits for the Lucy family, which owned the land from 1247 to 1946. The paintings of George Lucy from 1760 is by Thomas Gainsborough.

Touring the Library, Drawing Room, Billiard Room and Dining Room, you’ll come across period furniture, a contemporary portrait of Elizabeth I and curios like a letter from Oliver Cromwell summoning Richard Lucy to Parliament.

13. Guy’s Cliffe House

On the Avon just before it bends round to Warwick are the ruins of a once opulent manor house.

Guy’s Cliffe House has a rather dark past, as it was developed by Samuel Greatheed, one of England’s wealthiest slave traders, and was most likely built by slaves brought over from the Caribbean.

Carvings in chalk caves on the site have been attributed to these slaves, as these would likely have been used as dormitories.

The house fell into disuse after the Second World War and was gutted by fire in the early 1990s.

Extensive tours are given of the property, including the intact chapel, which has been used for Masonic ceremonies since the 1950s and has a statue of Guy of Warwick, the legendary Medieval figure that Guy’s Cliffe is named after.

14. Kenilworth Castle

Five miles out of Warwick are the remnants of one of Elizabethan England’s grandest buildings.

Kenilworth Castle has Norman origins, and as a semi-royal palace was enhanced over several centuries.

Edward II was removed from the throne here in the 14th century, while during the Second Barons’ War a few decades earlier, Kenilworth Castle was placed under the longest siege in history, lasting six months.

Its apogee came in the 16th century, when the Earl of Leicester, courting Elizabeth I, turned the castle into a theatrical Renaissance palace to host the queen in 1575. You can go up the tower that Elizabeth stayed in, take a turn in the Elizabethan Gardens, check out the Medieval keep and Great Hall, and view exhibitions in the intact gatehouse and Tudor stables.

15. Warwick Arts Centre

The Warwick University campus, a few minutes on the way to Coventry, has the largest performing arts complex in the UK outside London’s Barbican.

The centre has two theatres, a concert hall, cinema, art gallery and an array of smaller venues.

Warwick University is arts-oriented, and the standard and variety of productions is impressive: One night you can catch a play by an international theatre company, and the next there will be a student-led production.

Concerts can vary from choral performances of Shakespeare’s texts and lunchtime classical concerts in summer, to well-known touring bands and tribute acts.

The cinema screens independent films, classics by the likes of Ingmar Bergman and lots of obscure movies you’re sure to have never seen before.

Warwick is a city in Rhode Island just south of Providence . It is the second largest city in the state, with 83,000 people (2010). Warwick is home to Rhode Island's main airport, T.F. Green Airport, which serves the Providence and Boston areas. It was founded in 1642 by Samuel Gorton, and played an important role in the Revolutionary War. It is popular among tourists for its colonial history and its location near beaches and saltwater bays.

Interstate 95 passes through Warwick. Interstate 295 also passes through Warwick, with exits at for getting to the malls and other popular centers. Or if you're looking for a more scenic view of the area, US Routes 1 and 2 follow the length of the coast just off the highways in communities just like Warwick. Routes 113 and 117 also pass through Warwick and are fairly heavily-traveled. Route 2 passes through Warwick and is known for its extensive shopping.

Through the Warwick Intermodal Facility, the commuter rail service at T.F. Green Airport has access to the MBTA , which provides a one-stop ride to downtown Providence and Boston via the Providence/Stoughton Line.

Warwick is a very seasonal location, considering a good portion of its outdoor locations appear along the Narragansett Bay. For this reason, finding things to do can sometimes be difficult, particularly during the winter. Still Warwick is one of the state’s biggest cities and there is plenty to discover - from galleries, to villages to colonial monuments, Warwick provides a myriad of exciting places. There are many historical landmarks within Warwick because of its colonial history.

The gallery features artists from all over the world in all types of media and styles. The styles range from old world traditional to contemporary. It which also offers professional art consultation and framing services, and will present the art in your home.  
• Warwick Historical Society , 25 Roger Williams Ave , ☏ +1 401 467-7647 . The Warwick Historical Society is a museum inside of an old house. The house was built in 1786 and still has all of its original detail. The House has been restored, but the original structure is still intact. It is a nice place to be if you want to take a journey back in time and learn some of Warwick great history.

There are many interesting colonial villages located throughout the city of Warwick.

• Apponaug Village Located off Route 1. Apponaug Village is a historic center settled in 1696. It was the center of trade and politics after the Revolutionary War, and was an important shipping port to Rhode Island. Today it is commonly referred to Warwick’s downtown area. Included in the village are Warwick City Hall, multiple churches, and the Warwick museum.
• Conimicut Village West Shore Road. Conimicut Village’s history can be traced back to the founding of Warwick in1643. It was once a fishing village, but today features Conimicut Point Park and Conimicut lighthouse. While the lighthouse is not open to the public, it is still in use and is a historical structure. Conimincut Point Park is open to the public and is a great place to visit or take a drive through on a nice summer day.
• Pawtuxet Village Located off Broad Street. Pawtuxet Village is the oldest village in New England, and one of the first constructed in Warwick. It is where rabble-rousers once burned the British ship, The Gaspee, at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. It was also one of the stops on the Underground Railroad for runaway slaves before and during the Civil War. Walking tours of the village are available to the public. The village is also home to many small shops and restaurants. Many people visit this village during the summer when they are able to take in all that the village has to offer.

• Warwick Public Library , 600 Sandy Lane , ☏ +1 401 739-5440 . The library has special sections for teens and children. Small private rooms are available to study or work on group/individual projects. The Library provides free internet access. Computers are also provided for those who may not have a personal laptop. Many programs are held at the library featuring musicians, artists, and story tellers. The Warwick Public Linrary also offers free museum passes to many attractions around Rhode Island. Within the library, there is a café in which many people visit during their time there.  
• Warwick City Hall , 3275 Post Road , ☏ +1 401 738-2000 . The City Hall building was built in the late 19th century and features a six-story clock tower which can be seen from miles away. Tours of the building are available. Council meetings are held at this building and open to the public.  
• John Waterman Arnold House , 25 Roger William Circle, ☏ +1 401 467-7647 . W 9AM-9PM. Home of the Warwick Historical Society, the 1786 John Waterman Arnold house is a classic clapboard structure. With many features of late 1700s architecture including a beehive oven. The house is open to the public. It is used as an educational tool for Rhode Islanders.
• Warwick Neck Lighthouse . Built in 1827, the Warwick Neck Lighthouse is last the traditional lighthouse built in Rhode Island. The lighthouse is located along the Narragansett Bay. Though not open to the public, the lighthouse is still in use today and is an impressive sight to see.
• Salter Grove Memorial Park ( Off of Narragansett Parkway ). Salter Grove is both a park and a place to sit by the sea. A lot of people come to fish by the breakwater rocks, watch boats out on the Narragansett Bay, launch their kayak, or to watch the swans and ducklings. Please be aware of the rising of the water when on the breakwater rocks because the water rises high enough to block the path back sometimes.  
• Conimicut Point Park , ☏ +1 401 738-2000 . This is a quiet little park by the beachside. It's nearby the Conimicut Lighthouse, and offers a beautiful shoreline that overlooks the Narragansett Bay. During low tide a sandbar connects the park to the lighthouse so you can actually walk to it. It is a great place for a picnic, or to watch the water and just relax. A play ground is located inside the park, therefore, it is a great place for families to visit. Swimming in the water is not recommended due to heavy traffic of boats. At night you can see the Providence city lights, and the Mt. Hope bridge off in the distance.  
• Pawtuxet Memorial Park , Off of North Country Club Dr. , ☏ +1 401 781-4600 . A small park that is kid and sport friendly. The park has a baseball and a soccer field for neighborhood competitions that are usually held on weekend evenings. There are also swings and a slide, along with several benches to sit down on. The park is a nice area surrounded by mostly woods with an open sky perfect for cloud watching or relaxing.  
• Passeonkquiss Coveland , off of General Hawkins St. on Narragansett Parkway. Offers an open area usually for fishing and boat launching into the Bay. Marine life and vegetation along with geese and ducks can be observed here as well.
• Posneganset Pond , off of Warwick Ave. A large pond open for fishing or swimming. It is a great place to go when the weather is nice. Be careful during the winter as this pond freezes over and can be considered dangerous.
• Pawtuxet Cove , off of Narragansett Parkway. Located adjacent to Pawtuxet Village. A hot spot for fishing and boat launching, as well as some occasional Cove is about a mile northward of Gaspee Point through a channel.
• Rocky Point Amusement Park Located in the heart of Warwick Neck, this amusement park was opened in 1847 by Captain William Winslow. It quickly became a hot attraction for people all around the state. The park was in its prime in the mid-1900s with such rides as a Log Flume, "Free Fall" , and a loop roller-coaster named "Corkscrew". However, in the 1990s, due to some poor business decisions, the company went bankrupt. There are no longer rides or cotton candy stands; it's now a mile-long asphalt walk-through of a piece of Rhode Island history that overlooks Narragansett Bay. Much of the park is fenced off from the public.

• Safe Harbor Cowesett - Apponaug , 2 Shattock Ave , ☏ +1 401 739-5005 . If you are someone who loves the water and owns a boat, this is the marina for you. It's right in the heart of Apponaug, Warwick's most commonly known village, and has a beautiful view of the bay. It is surrounded by a few restaurants and is equipped with 204 slips and 30 moorings for easy come and go access.  
• Kent County YMCA , 900 Centerville Rd , ☏ +1 401 828-0130 . 5AM-10PM . Offers family swim and gym hours daily in addition to free childcare in the Kids Gym. Workout, swims, air bounce, board games, blocks, video games, books and hundreds of new toys available. $5 .  
• Movie Theaters . Hours Vary . Two locations: Showcase Cinema Warwick (1200 Quaker Lane, near Division St.) and Apple Cinemas Warwick Mall (400 Bald Hill Road). Both theaters have several screens showing the most up-to-date movies, plus DLP and Dolby Digital technology, 3D movie capabilities, stadium seating, game room, free parking, and food courts. Both theaters are in walking distance of popular restaurants and shopping locations. Prices: Children/senior - $7.75. Adult - $10.50. Adult matinee - $8  
• McDermott Aquatic Center , 975 Sandy Lane. . The pool is open from 5:30AM- 9PM. Public swim times vary, however, there are many times during the day that the public is welcome to swim. It is a great place to come and relax while taking a swim, or enjoying family time with your kids. All sessions are $5 adults, $3 for children 5-17, and free for children under 5 years old.  
• Tennis Rhode Island. , 636 Centerville Road . Offers 6 indoor tennis courts. They are available from $18-$25 an hour. Equipment rentals, locker rooms, and showers are also provided to people using the facilities  
• Teamworks Warwick. , 170 Jefferson Boulevard . Provides Rhode Island Families with sports and recreation programs. The facility is 80,000 square feet that offers a wide range of activities for the whole family. There are youth sports leagues, camps, adult sports leagues, special events.

• 41.7044 -71.3901 1 Morris Farm and Greenhouses , 2779 Warwick Avenue ( take exit 10 off of Rt 95, Right onto Rt 117 continue 4.6 mi, Left on Warwick Ave 0.3 mi ). Spring: Su-W 9AM-5PM, Th-Sa 9AM-6PM . Founded in 1915,this 43 acre farm is an oasis in bustling suburbia. Morris Farm offers seasonal activities ranging from holiday decoration making in December to hayrides and a corn maze in October and also hosts school tours, birthday parties. Lines form at the farm stand which sells fresh, local produce. Locals often leave it up to Mrs. Morris to make their holiday pies and side dishes.  
• Gaspee Days Festival The Gaspee Days Festival is held over Memorial Day weekend. It celebrates the history of Warwick’s colonial villages and features an arts and crafts fair, costume contests, a golf scramble, fireworks, and a reenactment of the burning of The Gaspee. There is also an essay contest, proclamation ceremony, colonial encampment, road race, parade and raffle.
• Summer Concert Series , ☏ +1 401 738-2000 x6504. The summer concert series features a variety of artists. The events are held at various parks in Warwick on Wednesday nights from Mid-June to Mid-August.
• Warwick Heritage Trail The Warwick Heritage Trail provides numerous routes for sightseers to follow throughout the state. The trail runs from upper Narragansett Bay to the western hills of Rhode Island, and includes numerous historical sites along the way.
• Conimicuit Beach , Off of West Shore Rd., Conimicuit Beach offers a relaxing view and small park. In the summer a lemonade truck is a constant sight, and so are families flying kites, children in the playground and couples watching the sunset from one of the many benches overlooking the ocean.
• Oakland Beach This location offers a sea wall and extensive free beach access. There are festivals and carnivals that take place throughout the summer and visitors can take part in casual and fine dining right on the boardwalk. The park is great for children to play on. Surrounding the beach there are many restaurants so you won't go hungry. A baseball field and Basketball Court is on the way out of the beach.
• Rocky Point Walking Path , 30 Rocky Point Ave. . An amusement park that opened in 1847. The park has re-opened as a mile-long asphalt walk-through that overlooks Narragansett Bay.  
• Warwick Cove , Wharf Road. Boating is one of the most popular activities in the summer in Warwick, since the city is set along 39 miles of coast. In Warwick Cove, sailors can pilot their own crafts, rent one, or take instructions. Fishing for marine and freshwater fish is also very popular here.
• Buckeye Brook Marsh and Pine Tree Preserve , Draper Avenue. The Buckeye Brook empties freshwater into the southwestern end of Mill Cove, creating a large salt marsh. The brook houses herring, mute swans and herons. The pine tree preserve borders the salt march.
• Warwick City Park/Buttonwoods Beach , Asylum Rd., ☏ +1 401 738-2000 x6404. The 126-acre beaches of Buttonwoods once hosted parties in the 1800s that popularized New England clambakes. Today the park features bike paths, nature trails, open fields, and sandy beaches. In addition, there is a dog park with separate sections for large and small dogs.
• Mickey Stevens Sports Complex , 975 Sandy Lane , ☏ +1 738 2000-0173 . The Mickey Stevens Sports Complex features two bocce courts, two basketball courts, six tennis courts, a baseball field, an indoor pool, and a jogging track. Two indoor ice rinks for year-round skating, except for a few weeks each year when a dog show is hosted.  
• Winslow Fields in between West Shore Rd. and Main Ave. Winslow Fields are a popular location for mainly a Girl's Softball League, but also sports a soccer field across the street. The baseball area has more than 5 fields, all with dugouts and the standard baseball diamond. When league games aren't in session, the fields are open for public use but strictly prohibit any sort of animal to accompany you. In the center of all the fields is a snack stand that only runs during league games, but when it is open it is a quick, delicious substitute for the fast food joints in the area. Along with fully functional restrooms there is also a playground area for younger children of the area. These fields are a big part of a lot of local residents lives, but with the airport attempting to expand, it could be in danger. T.F. Green Airport has an expansion plan and one of the runways is next to the fields. The airport has already bought out many houses surrounding the field and demolished them so one can only wonder when they will strip the community of this wonderful outlet for our youth.

• Warwick Country Club , 394 Narragansett Bay Ave , ☏ +1 401 737-9878 . An 18-hole, private course which offers breath taking views of both Narragansett and East Greenwich Bay. It has a great facility complete with practice areas, multiple clay and hard top tennis courts, and a swimming pool.  
• Valley Country Club , 251 New London Ave , ☏ +1 401 821-1115 . Valley is a championship course with 18 breath-taking holes to challenge a golfer at any level. Although it is a private course, they are constantly offering deals for members to bring in people from the outside. A perfect mix of difficulty and ease, Valley will provide you with an incredibly enjoyable golf experience. Greens fees M-F: 18 holes- $50, 9-holes- $25 and weekends/holidays: 18-holes- $60, 9-holes $30.  

Buy [ edit ]

Warwick has gone from being a small suburb of Providence to becoming a busy city in itself. Many major retail chains have moved into locations in Warwick as it is in the center of the state, but more accessible than Providence.

Bald Hill Rd, RI Rt. 2, has become a retail hotspot. The Warwick stretch of Rt. 2, is littered with chain restaurants and retail stores. Along the stretch are Best Buy , Dick’s Sporting Goods , Barnes and Noble , Target , and more. They are part of number of large outdoor shopping centers, within a few miles of one another. All are located a short drive from the Warwick Mall, but traffic is often heavy.

• Trader Joe's , 1000 Bald Hill Rd , ☏ +1 401 821-5368 . This specialty foods market from the west coast has taken root onto Rt. 2. It is a nice alternative to expensive and predictable Stop 'n Shop and Shaws.  
• Dave's Marketplace , 18 Airport Rd , ☏ +1 401 738-8300 . Dave's Marketplace is local, family-run business that is expanding quickly. Dave's has long been "the other market" in Warwick. The often sell fruits, vegetables and other products from local growers and manufacturers.  
• Sandy Lane Meat Market , 459 Sandy Ln , ☏ +1 401 737-4246 . Sandy Lane has seemingly always been around. It is by far, and undoubtedly the best place in town to buy fresh deli fare. Also, Sandy Ln, offers an array of locally grown produce.  
• Ocean State Job Lot , 3030 West Shore Rd , ☏ +1 401 739-6821 . M-Sa 8AM-9PM, Su 9AM-8PM . Known as the "home of adventure shopping", Job Lot is a Rhode Island grown company that sells almost anything imaginable at incredible prices. At the Buttonwoods location they have a great food section that offers many unfamiliar, but delicious items at close-out prices. Other departments include automotive, pet supplies, home goods, clothing, stationary, gifts, toys, seasonal, and health & beauty.  
• Ross-Simons , 136 Lambert Lind Highway , ☏ +1 401 738-6700 . Next to the Warwick Mall. A great place to get jewelry for someone special. The store is very large and you can find anything you are looking for. Prices range and can get very expensive depending on what you are looking to purchase.

Budget is usually a quick stop, something you're craving but don’t want to spend a lot of money. Prices range from $2-8.

• Crusty's Pizza , 1331 Warwick Ave , ☏ +1 401 463-5123 . Closed Monday, Crusty's serves delicious pizza with a Greek touch along with grinders, trojan horses, and more. Friendly staff with a real "personal" atmosphere. One of the few places you can get two large pizzas for under twenty bucks (special does not apply in July and August).  
• Dear Hearts Ice Cream , Open seasonally (usually beginning in late April) with three locations around Warwick (Pawtuxet Village, Norwood, and Wildes Corner) serving delicious and reasonably priced soft serve, cones, and cups of ice cream in additional to milkshakes. A wide variety of flavors to appeal to all.
• Del's Lemonade , 2050 Warwick Avenue and 919 Warwick Avenue . Open seasonally. Del's is more than a Rhode Island tradition: it is a way of life. Each spring lines form as Del's Lemonade stand opens its doors. A favorite outing for many Rhode Islander's is to get Del's and take a stroll on one of the local beaches. There is a service bar in the kitchen for alcoholic drinks. This restaurant is most known for its complimentary dinner rolls and deli pickles. These pickles are not the ordinary pickles you are thinking of, they are made with a secret recipe that will make you coming back for more. After your meal, you should not leave this place until you try a slice of Gregg’s dessert. Whether it be their most famous Chocolate Layer Cake, Apple Crisp, or their special Toffee Crunch Cake, you will not be disappointed. Each slice is around $6.00 and they are absolutely big enough to split between two people.

Food is great, affordable and comes in huge portions. I strongly recommend getting the pizza or calzones they are known for. They also sell red sauce and soup by the quart. Don’t forget to bring a few quarters for the mini juke box at each booth.
