Magic Moments

#disneymagicmoments from home: kilimanjaro safaris.

Thomas Smith

by Thomas Smith , Editorial Content Director, Disney Experiences

Jambo, friends!  Every day, we see more and more great stories of cast members and Disney fans creating magical moments at home, and we can’t help but be delighted and inspired by the true creativity in action!

One such example is Katelyn, a cast member at Kilimanjaro Safaris in Disney’s Animal Kingdom . Inspired to recreate the attraction at home, she led a one-of-a-kind video safari through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, complete with some of her favorite “animals” and her very own safari vehicle. She even shared some great facts about wildlife along the way.

Kilimanjaro Safaris is definitely a favorite attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. With its amazing animals and interesting animal facts, it is no surprise that our cast members love sharing this unique experience with guests.

Be sure to keep an eye out for additional #DisneyMagicMoments and #DisneyCastLife stories sharing Disney magic from home. Until then, kwaherini!

Topics: Magic Moments , Magic Moments – Fun and Play

Ok so, THAT was awesome! Cannot thank katelyn enough for doing all of that! So well done! What? I’m not crying, you’re crying!

This is so wonderful! My first ever safari my friends and I were seated at the very front. The tour put us in a state of such awe, the tour guide commented that the faces we were making made her day! She also made OUR day with an incredible tour! Can’t wait to return to Animal Kingdom

This made me smile and pray for the day we can all return to Disney.

Jambo to you too and THANK-YOU!

This is amazing! Thank you Katelyn; this made my day and put a huge smile on my face. KS is one of my absolute favorites at WDW and I’ll be missing a trip this month so it brought a little bit of home to me. Hope you are safe at home and have a magical day 😉

Complete Guide to Kilimanjaro Safaris at Animal Kingdom

Complete Guide to Kilimanjaro Safaris at Animal Kingdom

Board a safari truck and get your cameras ready! Kilimanjaro Safaris at Animal Kingdom gives you the experience of a real-life African safari, but at Walt Disney World.

As you travel through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve you will learn about conservation, the importance of taking care of animals, and, of course, get the chance to see amazing creatures, like elephants, hippos, and giraffes.

Now, let’s explore our guide to Kilimanjaro Safaris .

In this article

Kilimanjaro Safaris Quick Facts

  • Location : Animal Kingdom, Africa
  • Height Requirement : None
  • Suitable for: Everyonest
  • Attraction Length: 18 minutes
  • Do we recommend? Definitely a high priority attraction you must experience.
  • When to Visit : Typically at opening/within the first hour, or later in the day toward park closing.
  • Lightning Lane Available: Yes
  • Scheduled Refurbishments
  • Tip(s) : Visit first thing in the morning at park open. The line gets really long, really fast, and the animals seem to be out more in the morning. The next best time to visit is at sunset for park closing. Crowds level off earlier at Animal Kingdom, wait times may be reduced, and animals can be out feeding.

Description : You board safari vehicles that are driven by guides who really do drive (no tracks) and are very knowledgeable about the animals. As you make your way through the savanna, the guides provide lots of information based on what you see along the ride. Sometimes have to stop to wait for animals to clear the path.

No two rides are the same as the animals are free roaming and on their own schedule. We would recommend experiencing the safari twice in your park day, if possible.

How to Ride Kilimanjaro Safaris

Kilimanjaro Safaris has a Standby Lane and a Lightning Lane. There is no Single Rider Line.

kilimanjaro safaris lightning lane

Like most attractions, standby lines typically are the lowest first thing in the morning and at the end of the evening. The middle of the day will see the longest lines.

Even though it’s not listed as an available attraction for Early Theme Park Entry, sometimes Kilimanjaro Safaris is open during the 30-minute early entry.

kilimanjaro safaris line

Kilimanjaro Safaris Standby Lane wait time jumps quickly after park open and can see sustained wait times well over 60 minutes for most of the park day.

Do I need to use Genie+ at Kilimanjaro Safaris?

Kilimanjaro Safaris is available with Genie+ and we highly recommend using it at this attraction for anyone who has purchased Genie+ or if it’s a must-do.

This is a highly popular ride at Animal Kingdom, given that it is a long ride time and suitable for all ages.

Many park guests make it a top priority of their park day. So unless you do this ride first, right at park open, plan to reserve a Genie+ time for Kilimanjaro Safaris.

If you want to try and experience the Safaris twice in one day, we would recommend using the Standby Lane at park open and then using Genie+ to ride it again later in the day.

Make sure you check out our touring strategies for Animal Kingdom for more Genie+ advice.

Rider Switch/Child Swap

You cannot use  Rider Switch  for Kilimanjaro Safaris.

Rider Switch is Disney’s system allowing guests with small children to take turns riding bigger rides, while another person/people wait with the little one.

There also isn’t Single Rider available here.

What to expect when you ride

The Kilimanjaro Safaris queue is outdoors, with part of it shaded. It paints the scene of an African tour company with its straw, thatched roof.

kilimanjaro safaris queue at animal kingdom

While there isn’t  an interactive queue , the line is themed to the attraction.

kilimanjaro safaris queue at animal kingdom

You can learn the African Swahili names to your favorite animals on displays as you move through the line. You can even hear the safari trucks driving by as you walk through.

Ride vehicles

Kilimanjaro Safaris ride vehicles can fit a total of 35 individuals. Each row can seat three to five guests, depending.

kilimanjaro safaris ride vehicles

There is no seatbelt or safety restraint, but there is a door on the right side of each row that closes for security and safety purposes when you’re on the ride.

Motion Sickness

Kilimanjaro Safaris is far from a thrill ride, but it can get rough at times with the trucks bouncing up and down along the paths and bridges.

Sometimes you might even have to brace yourself, so you don’t slide in your seat.

We have a  guide on motion sickness  that’s filled with information and tips, so feel free to check that out.

Accessibility information

Guests in ECVs or power wheelchairs must transfer to a manual wheelchair. There are wheelchair accessible vehicles with built-in ramps.

Those using an ECV who don’t wish to transfer to a vehicle bench, must transfer to a Disney-provided manual wheelchair.

kilimanjaro safaris accessibility information

You will be seated in Row 1 right behind the tour guide. A bench is located directly next to the wheelchair space and additional companions will be directed to sit in the rows behind the wheelchair space.

Those using ECVs or wheelchairs can remain in their mobility devices until they reach the accessible boarding and unloading area, which is not long after the stroller drop-off area.

kilimanjaro safaris ecv and wheelchair loading area

This area is where ECVS and other mobility devices can be parked. They will be waiting in the same space when guests return from their safari.

Keep in mind that each safari vehicle only holds one occupied wheelchair at a time, so anyone needing this type of access could have an additional wait compared to those who transfer to a vehicle bench.

Handheld captioning , assistive listening, and video captioning is available for guests.

Service animals are also permitted, but with caution.

On the Ride

Spoilers ahead! If you want to go in knowing absolutely nothing about Kilimanjaro Safaris, feel free to skip this section.

After walking through the queue you and your party finally make it to the boarding lanes awaiting your safari tour.

kilimanjaro safaris loading zone

You can’t miss the sound of your safari truck approaching. A warm greeting from your tour guide “Jambo,” which is Swahili for “Hello.”

After boarding your safari truck, your group will take off entering the Harambe Wildlife Reserve.

harambe wildlife reserve kilimanjaro safaris

Be alert and have your cameras ready, because these are live, free roaming animals, so you never know what you will see or how close the animals will get.

No tour is ever the same!

You start off in the forest seeing the Okapi, the closet living relative to the giraffe. You’ll next approach a watering hole where you can catch sights of animals like the saddle billed stork, bongo, kudu, and black rhinoceros.

bongo on kilimanjaro safaris

Heading out of the forest your truck will enter a river where you can spot hippopotamus’. The only way to exit the river is by crossing over an old, shaky bridge.

Under the bridge, down low you’ll spot a crowd of Nile crocodiles. But not to fear, you’re with an expert driver and guide! Your truck makes it over the bridge safe and sound.

Exiting the river your safari tour will enter the savanna marked by a big Baobab tree.

giraffe and zebra on kilimanjaro safaris

As your truck makes its way down the savanna you will spot many animals like zebras, African wild dogs, giraffes, wildebeest, and cattle. Some animals may cross in front of or come right up to the truck. Be sure to look out past the truck under trees and in the shaded areas to spot animals.

Leaving the savanna your guide will spot a couple of fallen down trees. That means the mighty elephants are near! On the way to find the elephants you pass a family of Mandrill monkeys.

Your truck approaches another old shaky, bridge, worse than the last one. Your tour guide crosses successfully with care.

elephant on kilimanjaro safaris

In search of more elephants you enter the red clay pit. Sure enough you may be able to catch sight of the elephants! Females are usually found with their young, while the male elephants stick more to themselves. If there are new babies on the tour, your guide will be sure to point them out.

Driving through the watering area of the red clay pit, you will see a flock of flamingo. Did you know flamingos start off gray in color? Be sure to listen to the tour guide to hear what makes flamingos pink!

flamingos on kilimanjaro safaris

Approaching the mud pit you will spy white rhinoceros. Up in the shade you’ll spot a couple of cheetah, the fastest land mammals on earth.

Next up, the highlight of every tour, and sometimes the hardest animal to see, are the lions up on the rock. Since lions are nocturnal animals and sleep most of the day, your best chance to see them awake are on safaris later in the day near park closing.

white rhino on kilimanjaro safaris

Are you ready for more? Your tour is still not over! Next up be sure to look out for warthogs, ostrich eggs, and Bontebok antelopes.

Before your safari comes to an end, you’ll see some super adorable Nigerian Dwarf Goats, who are originally from Nigeria and considered to be of high value because of the high protein milk they provide.

lion on kilimanjaro safaris

You leave the reserve and head back to the village of Harambe. After the vehicle comes to a complete stop the doors on your right side will open, allowing you and your party to exit.

Keep in mind that each time you ride is different, because you never know what animals you’ll see or how they’ll act. This makes the attraction super unique.

Is Kilimanjaro Safaris kid-friendly?

Overall, Kilimanjaro Safaris is kid-friendly. After all, it doesn’t even have a height requirement. It should be fun for most kids to see the different animals. And, don’t worry, there aren’t any dark or scary moments.

That said, the ride can get rough at times thanks to the paths, bridges, and the safari vehicle itself. This could be either fun or upsetting to little ones. But, for the most part, the ride is kid-friendly.

Be sure to check out our full guide on several other  things that might scare little ones at Disney World .

Strollers are not allowed on the Kilimanjaro Safaris vehicles. You’ll need to park your stroller in the designated stroller parking area at the attraction entrance.

If you forget to park your stroller or want to take it into the line, you can, but know you’ll have to park it mid-way. There is an area with Cast Members waiting, who will take your stroller and park it for you.

Kilimanjaro Safaris first opened in 1998, the same year as Animal Kingdom. Actually, both the attraction and the park opened on April 22, aka Earth Day.

Animal Kingdom is the largest of all Disney World theme parks. It spreads out over 500 acres, which also gives the animals plenty of room to roam and live.

kilimanjaro safaris savanna

The Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction itself spans 110 acres with the Harambe Wildlife Reserve serving as home to 34 species!

Your guide drives around as they gives facts about the animals you encounter along the way during the 18-minute journey.

kilimanjaro safaris elephant and ride vehicle

When the ride initially opened, there was a poachers storyline and even a rickety bridge that threw some excitement into the mix. But, both of these elements were removed and now there’s more of a focus on the actual animals and the importance of conservation.

Former Imagineer Joe Rohde is responsible and to thank for not only breathing life into Kilimanjaro Safaris, but Animal Kingdom as a whole. Without him, this park wouldn’t be is what is today.

There’s no doubt Kilimanjaro Safaris is a fantastic experience and the closest thing many will ever get to experiencing an African safari.

Other Fun Details

  • If you want an even more in depth and VIP tour of the savanna, you can sign up for the 3-hour guided Wild Africa Trek tour , where you will embark on some adventurous activities and see animals even more up close. This tour is priced separately and must be booked in advanced.

Kilimanjaro song – “jambo bwana” lyrics & meaning.

Kilimanjaro Song – “Jambo Bwana” Lyrics & Meaning

On your Kilimanjaro climb, the mountain crews will sing songs, dance and cheer to celebrate the accomplishments of their guests.

You might witness these events when you arrive at a campsite, after a successful summit, during the tipping ceremony, or before you parting ways. There is one song in particular that is most often performed on the mountain.

Jambo Bwana

“Jambo Bwana” was originally a Kenyan song released in 1982 by Them Mushrooms.

The title means “Hello, sir” in Swahili .

jambo kilimanjaro safari

Them Mushrooms is a Kenyan band who plays Chakacha – a traditional music and dance style of the Swahili people, Benga – a genre of Kenyan pop music, and reggae – a music genre that originated in Jamaica .

Since its release, “Jambo Bwana” has become a huge commercial success, achieving platinum status in Kenya and Tanzania in five years. It has been covered by other artists such as Mombasa Roots, Safari Sound Band, Khadja Nin, Adam Solomon, Mani Kollengode, and Boney M.

Kilimanjaro Song Adaptation

YouTube player

The catchy song “Jambo Bwana” made its way into tourist venues all across East Africa.

As the song spread into different regions, the lyrics were adapted to represent the location of the performer. In the case of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, words of encouragement, trekking advice, and geographical landmarks are infused into the song to fit their particular situation.

A popular version is translated below:

Jambo, jambo Bwana  (Hello, hello Sir) Habari gani  (How are you?) Mzuri sana  (Very fine) Wageni, mwakaribishwa  (Foreigners, you’re welcome) Kilimanjaro, hakuna matata  (Kilimanjaro, there is no problem) Tembea pole pole, hakuna matata  (Walk slowly, slowly, no problem) Utafika salama, hakuna matata  (You’ll get there safe, no problem) Kunywa maji mengi, hakuna matata  (Drink plenty of water, no problem)

Many guests love to listen to this song as it reminds them of the fun times they shared on the mountain.

Original Lyrics

YouTube player

The song’s creation stemmed from a conversation that the band leader, Teddy Harrison, overheard while performing in a hotel in Mombasa. There were two tourists trying to speak Swahili and practicing basic conversational phrases. Harrison wrote the song using the same simple phrases to teach Swahili to foreigners.

Them Mushroom’s original lyrics are translated below:

Jambo, jambo Bwana  (Hello, hello Sir) Habari gani  (How are you?) Mzuri sana  (Very fine) Wageni, mwakaribishwa  (Foreigners, you’re welcome) Kenya yetu, hakuna matata  (Our Kenya has no problems) Kenya nchi nzuri, hakuna matata (Kenya is a nice country, there are no problems ) Nchi ya maajabu, hakuna matata (Country of wonder, there are no problems ) Nchi yenye amani, hakuna matata ( Country of peace, there are no problems) Watu wote, hakuna matata (Everybody, there are no problems ) Wakaribishwa, hakuna matata ( All are welcome, there are no problems) Hakuna matata, hakuna matata ( There are no problems, there are no problems)

Deluxe Villas

Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, also known as the Jambo House, opened in April 2001 to offer an opportunity that is wholly different from Disney World’s other resorts: a chance to experience the culture of another continent through all of the senses. More than 20 African lodges were visited by Disney’s Imagineers for inspiration before recreating a slice of Africa in the Orlando area, complete with thatched roofs, mud fireplaces, traditional art, food, music and a 43-acre wildlife preserve.

The Animal Kingdom’s preserve, featuring more than 30 species of animals, is what makes the resort famous. Many of the animals are visible from guestroom balconies and special viewing areas, including an elevated kopje (or rock outcropping) that puts guests within 15 feet of the animals. In addition, in-room Wildlife Field Guides provide a checklist with identification pointers and behavior tips on everything from ankole cattle to okapi, red river hogs and zebras.

Note: While many past guests refer to the six-story Animal Kingdom Lodge as “the lodge,” the lodge is actually the first four floors of the property, while the fifth and sixth floors are known as Jambo House Villas. Why? When Animal Kingdom Lodge opened in 2001, demand was so great that Disney added a sixth floor and converted most of the fifth floor rooms into studio, and one-, two- and three-bedroom Disney Vacation Club villas, and then added another set of villas, a short walk away, called Kidani Village.

Both the lodge building and the villas located within it are referred to as Jambo House, and the Animal Kingdom Lodge moniker refers to both Jambo House and the Kidani Village villas.

See Kidani Village for details on the Kidani Village, as many of Kidani’s amenities are also available to Jambo House guests.

While specific rooms cannot be guaranteed, guests can try and request a particular area based on the four "trails" that lead from the lobby. For easy access to the pool and arcade, request a room off either the Zebra or Giraffe Trail. Rooms located at the end of a trail hallway, while farther from the lobby and restaurants, are also quieter for mid-day nappers.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villages - Jambo House Rooms Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas - Jambo House offers 128 studios, 82 one-bedroom villas, 82 two-bedroom villas and six grand villas; with views that range from standard (view of the parking lot) to savanna views.

One-Bedroom Villa An average, one-bedroom villa sleeps four with a king bed in the master bedroom and queen sofa bed in the living room.

Two-Bedroom Villa The two-bedroom villas can sleep eight to nine people and has a "lock-off" second bedroom and an additional kitchenette. They are actually a combination of a studio and a one-bedroom villa, and have one queen bed and one double sofa bed in the second bedroom, a queen sofa bed in living room and a single sleeper chair in the studio living room, as well as two bathrooms.

Three-Bedroom Villa The three-bedroom villa sleeps up to 12, with a king-sized bed in the master bedroom, two queen-sized beds in two additional bedrooms, a queen-size sleeper sofa in the living room, and four bathrooms and a whirlpool tub in the master bathroom.

One-, two- and three-bedroom villas also include full kitchens with a full-size refrigerator, microwave, stove, sink, cabinets and coffee maker. Studios (Value to Deluxe Club Level) sleep up to four, with a queen bed and a double sofa bed, and include smaller kitchenettes with a mini-fridge, wet bar, microwave and coffee maker.

Each villa also offers flat-screen TV's, a small safe, hairdryer and iron, as well as Pack 'N Plays and high chairs. Washers and dryers can be found in the laundry rooms located on the first and fifth floors of the Zebra Trail hallway and the second floor of Kudu Trail. All rooms are nonsmoking. Designated outdoor smoking areas, which can be found on the map, are situated around the resort.

Value Category Jambo House is the only Walt Disney World Vacation Club resort to offer a Value Category. Value priced-options include studios, one-bedroom villas and two-bedroom villas.

Kilimanjaro Concierge Club Villas Guests of both Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort and Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas -- Jambo House can reserve a "Club Level" accommodation for extra perks. Guests staying in a Club Level accommodation can take advantage of a number of extra amenities, including the Kilimanjaro Club itself. The club is an oversized loft, located on the sixth floor and overlooking the lobby. Here, concierge cast members help arrange dining, childcare, transportation and assorted activities.

There are comfortable seating areas and food and beverage offerings throughout the day, including a continental breakfast (complete with an espresso machine), an afternoon tea with cookies and fruit, wine and cheese selections, beer, cordials and desserts. Be sure to try the delicious homemade kettle chips and African smoothies.

Additional concierge club benefits include an advance itinerary planning service, newspaper delivery, opportunity to book a Wildlife Discovery Excursion at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park and the opportunity to book and experience the Sunrise Safari Breakfast Adventure (park tickets for Animal Kingdom must be purchased separately).

Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House is our favorite marathon hotel in Walt Disney World. The early morning pre race coffee service is over the top. Pre race breakfast boxes and pasta dinners are also available. A pool and 2 hot tubs round out this wonderful runner resort!

by Kiara513734

We stayed here for 5 nights in September. We had a standard deluxe studio with a partial savanna view. I loved seeing the animals from the balcony. It really is magical! I liked the kitchenette in the room and the little extra details like the bed runner and the sketches of the animals on the tiles. We ate at Jiko one night. The food and ambiance were great and I liked the lion king themed menu. The Mara was great for a quick snack to take to our balcony and to refill our mugs. All of the cast members we encountered at the resort were nice and helpful. The buses were great. Oh and the smell in the resort is wonderful! We would definitely return here again.

Family Activities

The resort has so many unique activities that it's worth allotting a day away from the theme parks to take advantage of them all, especially the safaris (available only to Animal Kingdom Lodge guests) and the many activities led by the Cultural Representatives from Africa.

Animal Kingdom Safaris Experience a re-creation of a true African game drive on the Wanyama Sunset Safari. This three-hour tour around the savannas (which horseshoe Animal Kingdom Lodge) offers a great chance to see the animals up close and learn about their idiosyncrasies from members of Disney's Animal Programs team. The safari ends with a multi-course dinner at Jiko - The Cooking Place. The sunset safari is offered exclusively to Animal Kingdom Lodge and Animal Kingdom Villa guests age 8 and up, and is available seven days a week (reservations: 407-938-4755).

Whereas the Sunset Safari explores the savannas around the resort, the Sunrise Safari provides a behind-the-scenes look at Animal Kingdom Park's barns and the Kilimanjaro Safari ride path, minus the ride's scripted storyline. Instead, the tour lasts up to 45 minutes and includes multiple stops for pictures and a host of interesting stories told by the animal team guides. The slower pace means you might get a much closer view of the animals. The highlight for us was the three rhinos that came jogging within a few feet of our vehicle. While we expected to feel the ground shake, it was amazing to watch something so big be so graceful and light on its feet. The safari concludes with an elaborate breakfast buffet.

The Sunrise Safari is available on Sundays and Thursdays to Kilimanjaro Club Level guests and Disney Vacation Club members staying at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas -- Jambo House. Safari goers meet at 7 a.m. and are transported to Animal Kingdom Park (transportation back to the resort is on one's own). Park tickets to Animal Kingdom are additional and required. A breakfast buffet is also provided after the adventure.

Uzima Pool Uzima, which means "clear water," is an 11,000-square-foot pool that sits alongside the Uzima Flamingo Pond and features a zero-depth gradual entry area, a 67-foot-long waterslide, pool basketball hoop and a nearby wading pool. Unlike some winding resort pools, Uzima's oversized kidney bean shape makes it easy for parents to sit poolside and keep an eye on kids. Attentive lifeguards watch over swimmers like Mufasa would watch over his pride. Two whirlpools are tucked away in shaded landscaped areas -- head to the one on the pool bar side for views of the savanna while you soak.

Organized (and free) activities for kids and families run throughout the day and include poolside movies under the stars, dancing, crafts, learning about the feeding strategies with animal experts, and animal viewing with night vision goggles. See the monthly Jambo House activity schedule for times.

Hakuna Matada Playground This children's playground, located near the pool, often has great views of animals from the top of the slide. It is open 24 hours a day and overlooks the flamingo area.

Music and Cultural Events Animal Kingdom Lodge offers several interesting activities designed to teach guests about African culture. Cultural representatives, many of whom are students taking part in an international exchange program, share stories about their native homelands around the fire pit, lead a gaggle of instrument-playing kids on a parade, and give culinary and art tours. The countries represented change based on recruitment.

Pumbaa's Fun and Games Arcade The arcade, located near the pool deck and open 24 hours a day, offers old-school favorites like Pac-Man and pinball, as well as more current games like Guitar Hero and Arctic Thunder.

Simba's Clubhouse Located near the Uzima Pool deck, this onsite activity center (additional fee) for ages 3 to 12 is open in the afternoon for drop-in family craft projects, and from 4:30 p.m. to midnight. Inside the clubhouse, kids can choose from Sony PlayStations, board games, puzzles, Hasbro toys and Disney movies. A two-hour minimum purchase is required, and children must be potty-trained. Dinner is included with selections from a kids' menu for those who arrive by 8 p.m. Beepers are available for parents and guardians. Call ahead for a reservation; walk-ins are welcome, if space is available.

Jambo House Campfire Toast marshmallows, share stories and sing along with other guests at this nightly campfire.

To read more about activities that are available to guests of Jambo House, see Kidani Village .

Family Dining

Make reservations in advance for Jiko and Boma (407-939-3463), as both are popular restaurants with guests staying across Disney World.

Jiki - The Cooking Place This signature restaurant features traditional African, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine. The menu includes vegan, vegetarian and meat-based dishes that change seasonally, but include items like berbere grilled lamb and Durban shrimp curry, along with brick oven-fired flatbreads. Ask for one of the handful of counter seats available, and watch the chefs prepare meals in the show kitchen. A favorite dessert for kids is the Jiko "Fun-do" assorted finger treats with chocolate-caramel fondue. Open for dinner from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Boma - Flavors of Africa Designed in the style of an African marketplace, complete with a traditional thatched roof, this family-friendly, buffet-style restaurant offers seasonal dinner dishes inspired by more than 50 African countries, including fire-grilled meats, seafood, soups, pastas and a dessert bar. Open for dinner from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Morning offerings include fresh fruit, African pastries, omelets, pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, carved ham, breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs and corn beef bobotie, a type of quiche. It's located on the first floor next to Jiko, and open for breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m.

Victoria Falls Lounge Overlooking Boma, this mezzanine lounge is a comfortable, albeit noisy spot to enjoy a beer, wine or specialty coffee and teas. Open from 4 p.m. to midnight.

The Mara This quick-service eatery is located near the pool deck and serves the usual type of fast food fare, from soups to salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas and numerous snacks. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Uzima Springs This open-air pool bar offers a variety of frozen African specialty drinks and light snacks from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Cape Town Lounge and Wine Bar Located neat Jiko, enjoy appetizers, snacks and a drink before sitting down for dinner. Open from 5 to 10 p.m.

In-Room Dining Typical kid fare (think burgers or mac and cheese) is served with two sides (choose from fries, applesauce, grapes or baby carrots), plus milk. Sandwiches like falafel, salads, pita chips with hummus, and upside down African-spiced apple cake with warm caramel and vanilla ice cream are also on the menu. Room service is available 24 hours a day.

To read more about restaurants and lounges available to guests of the Jambo House, see Kidani Village .

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras For the safety of the animals, there are no firework shows anywhere in Animal Kingdom and guests are asked to leave balloons with Bell Services, and to refrain from feeding the animals.

Both properties feature fitness centers, as well as spas. They also provide African-themed marketplaces to shop for souvenirs and sundries.

"Extra Magic Hours" allow all Disney Resort guests to take advantage of shorter waits for their favorite rides each day when one Disney theme park opens an hour early or stays open up to three hours after the official park closing. Check the weekly schedule for details. Guests also enjoy the ability to make FASTPASS+ reservations 60 days in advance.

Like all Disney resorts, children are treated like VIP's. It is not unusual for staff to hand out Disney stickers to children passing by. Room towels are folded in three circles, the shape of Mickey, and in-room TV's offer plenty of Disney programming.

The Art of Smart Timing The best prices and shortest waits at Disney are during the value seasons: January to mid-February, mid-July to late-September, and post Thanksgiving through mid-December. Conversely, weekends and holidays are the busiest and most expensive times to stay at a Disney Resort, with New Year's typically the priciest.

Getting There Guests of Disney hotels can use the complimentary Disney Magical Express service and check their bags at their hometown airport, bypass baggage claim at Orlando International Airport, and take Disney's comfortable motor coaches to their resort, where luggage is delivered to the room after check-in. The service must be booked in advance and is not available with all airlines. Check with a Disney agent when you make your reservation.

For those driving and/or renting a car, the resort is approximately 26 miles from Orlando International Airport.

Getting Around Unlike Disney's Epcot and Magic Kingdom area resorts, walking to any of the theme parks from Animal Kingdom Lodge is not permitted. Best bet for a walk is the half-mile path between Jambo House and Kidani Village (regular bus service between the two is also available).

For Mom and Dad Have dinner and sample wines from Jiko's award-winning wine list, which features one of the largest selections of South African vintages in North America. Then take a stroll to Kidani Village and relax in a rocker in their outdoor viewing area while listening to the sound of crickets.

Jambo Jambo

Home » Safari » Jambo Jambo

Duration of trip:

8 Days - 7 Nights

Starting from:

Safari jambo jambo.

In Swahili JAMBO JAMBO means “bye bye” and is the 8-day and 7-night itinerary to discover the Manyara and Natron lakes and the 3 main parks of northern Tanzania. Excluding the days of arrival and departure, the JAMBO JAMBO safari includes:

ARUSHA 1 day

Once you land at Kilimanjaro airport you will be met by our staff, who will accompany you to Arusha.

LAGO MANYARA 1 DAY

As we begin our safari in Lake Manyara Park, we will encounter a very diverse vegetation. Swamps and evergreen forests are succeeded by stretches of Savannah, making this place a synthesis of as many as 11 different ecosystems. We will spot the many species of birds that inhabit this lake including: pelicans, flamingos, herons, and eagles.

NGORONGORO 1 DAY

The visit to the Ngorongoro crater will amaze you with the variety of ecosystems that coexist in it: savannah, acacia forests, lakes, swamps and salt marshes. For this reason, the concentration of fauna is amazing, consisting of herds of zebras and wildebeests, numerous colonies of flamingos, countless species of birds as well as lions, elephants and hyenas.

SERENGETI 2 DAYS

We will spend two days in the most important protected natural area in East Africa declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will go in search of the giants of the savannah, better known as the BIG FIVE : elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo.

LAKE NATRON 1 DAY

We will continue our safari to discover Lake Natron, a body of saline water that occupies a depression due to the sinking of the earth’s crust. In addition to flamingos, the lake is home to around 400 species of water birds including kingfisher, red and yellow bearded, lilac-breasted jay and other birds of prey.

TARANGIRE 1 DAY

The last day of our journey will take us to discover a greener landscape characterized by baobab trees and typical umbrella acacias. Inhabitants of this park are warthogs, dik-dik, gazelles, giraffes and elephants.

Before taking you back to the airport, our staff will give you a tour of the local markets and the city of Arusha. On this day you can take the opportunity to buy some souvenirs.

Testimonials

We went on a safari in 2016 and had a great time with Francis! He knows a lot about all the different wildlife and he is good company to have around. We learnt a lot about the different animals but also about the people of Kenya and Tanzania. We would highly recommend everybody to go on a trip with Jambo Africa Adventures!  We are still in contact with Francis because we not only did we have a great time, but we also made a friend. He was very patient and a good driver, he made funny animal sounds what made the trip very relaxing. If it was up to us, we would definitely go with Francis again to the Serengeti in the future! From Dylan, Lieke & little Nigiri

Francis was the guide on my first safari with a group of friends and I didn’t come back down to earth for weeks afterwards! Nothing was too much trouble for this very friendly, fun and knowledgeable guy who made sure the experience was unforgettable.  Francis and the team at Jambo Africa Adventures will go the extra mile to make your African Dreams come true, book them, now! From Eleanor (England)

After a gruelling yet amazing trek up Kilimanjaro, my downtime was a 3-day safari with Jambo Africa Adventures and my only complaint is that I didn’t make it at least a week – it was AMAZING!  Francis was the guide and he spent hours driving around making sure that we saw as much as we possibly could in the short time we had.  He was funny and friendly but always professional and his knowledge of wildlife – WOW!  I recommend Francis and the Jambo team for THE holiday of a lifetime.
