Taylor Swift Taps Paramore for European Eras Tour Run

Taylor Swift knows we need more — so she’s giving us just that. The singer has added 14 more shows to the European/U.K. leg of her Eras Tour , and announced that Paramore will provide support throughout the trek.

“Really can’t contain my excitement because… we’re adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour,” Swift wrote on Twitter Wednesday, July 5. “And I get to travel the world doing shows with @paramore !! Hayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? I’m screaming???”

Last month, Swift added dozens of shows to her Taylor Swift: The Eras stadium tour — bringing the total count of shows to a whooping 104 nights . She also extended her run at Los Angeles’ So-Fi Stadium with a sixth show scheduled for Aug. 7.

The new addition comes after the singer announced shows in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Europe earlier this week. (See below for the full tour dates.)

“EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️,” she wrote on Instagram. “I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!”

She also added more dates to her already-announced Latin America tour. After wrapping her U.S. dates in Los Angeles on Aug. 9, Swift will head to Mexico City for four straight shows at Foro Sol starting Aug. 24. She’ll then stop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil in November.

Swift first announced the tour last October after she completely took over the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with Midnights . The added dates, which follow the addition of eight new shows last week, were slotted in “due to unprecedented demand,” according to the singer’s camp.

“Good Morning America, it’s Taylor,” Swift said during the announcement. “I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time and I’ve been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I’m going back on tour. The tour is called the ‘Eras’ tour, and it’s a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

The tour began on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona and extends through Aug. 9, where the singer will wrap with a fifth night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Swift still has stops left in Detroit, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Santa Clara.

Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff Have Reached Their Limit

Pitbull is ready to ‘party after dark’ on north american tour, from vmas drama to 'thank you aimee': a timeline of taylor swift's feud with kim kardashian, kanye west.

Across the tour, Swift is being supported in select cities by a combination of special guests including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN.

The Eras tour follows the cancelation of her planned 2020 Lover Fest tour, which was originally going to see her make stadium stops in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York, along with Brazil, Denmark, Norway, and Poland. “This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future,” she wrote in 2021.

Swift last went the road in 2018 for her massive Reputation Stadium Tour , which saw Swift accompanied by the likes of Charli XCX and Camila Cabello across the United States, the United Kingdom, along with Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. The tour was the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist that year.

Since her last tour, Swift has released four albums and two re-releases: Lover , Folklore , Evermore , Midnights , and Taylor’s Version editions of Fearless and Red with additional songs. In total, she’s dropped 90 tracks of new material, not including collaborations with the likes of Haim and Big Red Machine.

Fans have long wondered what music she’ll be performing on the road, with some theorizing that she’d host a residency in Las Vegas or a music festival where she’d perform different “eras” on different nights.

Along with packing her setlist with songs from Reputation in 2018, she surprised each city with an acoustic rendition of fan favorites like “Red,” “Holy Ground,” and “Wildest Dreams.” At select shows, she also brought out special guests. Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Hayley Kiyoko, and Maren Morris were among the artists to be brought out by Swift.

The stadium tour was accompanied by a concert film released on New Year’s Eve that year.

She previously took her 1989 album on the road for 85 dates, where she was accompanied by the likes of Mendes, James Bay, Vance Joy, and Haim. Before then was The Red Tour in 2013 and 2014, and her Speak Now World Tour from 2011 to 2012.

After Eras Tour Triumphs, Taylor Swift Finds Trouble in Brazil

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour broke records in North America, but has faced tragedy and mishaps during a three-day stretch of concerts in Rio de Janeiro.

Video player loading

By Amanda Holpuch ,  Flávia Milhorance and Leonardo Coelho

Amanda Holpuch reported from New York and Leonardo Coelho and Flávia Milhorance from Rio de Janeiro.

Taylor Swift was welcomed to Brazil on Thursday by a projection that made the world-famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro appear as if it were clad in a T-shirt similar to the one she wore in her “You Belong With Me” music video and was decorated with the names of Brazilian states and symbols from her songs.

But tragedy and trouble have followed that warm welcome.

A fan died in the sweltering heat at Friday night’s show in Rio de Janeiro. At the 11th hour, Swift postponed her Saturday show until Monday, to the dismay of thousands of fans who had already started filling the stadium. The military police said a fan who was in Rio de Janeiro for the regularly scheduled concert on Sunday was stabbed to death earlier that morning.

The fatalities and other problems were a departure from the triumphant first leg of Swift’s Eras Tour, a career-spanning production that broke records in North America. As the tour’s second show in Rio de Janeiro approached on Sunday night, fans grappled with ruined travel plans, extreme heat and disappointment.

Anne Di Motta, 30, a psychologist in São Paulo, Brazil, was supposed to attend the Saturday night show and said she would be returning home before the rescheduled concert on Monday because she had to work.

“I spent the last 17 years waiting for the opportunity to go, to fulfill my teenage dream of meeting someone I’ve known since her first single,” Di Motta said. “And to be sitting three hours in a chair, completely wet with sweat, having to overcome several personal challenges to be there completely alone, to receive the news that it was canceled — it was completely devastating.”

The Saturday night show was postponed because of the extreme temperatures, Swift said in an Instagram post hours before the concert was supposed to begin at an open-air soccer stadium. “The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers and crew has to and always will come first,” she said.

At that point, thousands of fans had traveled to see Swift, enduring the peak of the day’s heat, which reached 93 degrees Fahrenheit, or 34 degrees Celsius, before they were asked to leave the venue. Reuters reported that the heat index, a measure of how hot it feels when humidity and other factors are considered along with the temperature, reached 59.7 degrees Celsius, or 139.5 degrees Fahrenheit, in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, a record.

A representative for Swift did not immediately respond to emailed questions about the postponement of the Saturday show.

The Rio shows came after Swift performed in Argentina , the first stop on the Eras Tour outside North America. She had to move one show in Buenos Aires because of a storm. She is scheduled to perform in São Paulo on Nov. 24, Nov. 25 and Nov. 26, before traveling next year to cities across South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.

Julia Alvarenga, a social media influencer, was in the stadium when the concert was postponed and said in a video shared widely online that she had arrived for the show at 11 a.m. “Taylor Swift, I’m wearing a geriatric diaper that doesn’t even close on me,” Alvarenga said.

“I bought water, I bought a fan, everyone is crying, screaming, so you show up on this stage!” Alvarenga said.

Gabriela Werner, 24, a marketing analyst, bought tickets for each show in Rio and two in São Paulo, and said she started preparing for the heat three months ago by working out in a gym without air conditioning in the middle of the day. She lives in Porto Alegre, about 700 miles southwest of Rio.

While waiting in line for Sunday night’s concert, Werner said the atmosphere was much calmer than that of the Friday show. “It’s not so hot, and everyone’s kind of holding back because of the nights before and everything that happened,” she said.

She did not expect Swift to return to Brazil. “I’m sure she’s traumatized,” Werner said.

Werner, like many other fans, blamed the Brazilian company that organized the show, Time for Fun, for the problems. Wadih Damous, the head of Brazil’s consumer protection agency, said the government would investigate Time for Fun. The company said on Saturday that it would add staff, provide free water and allow fans to enter the stadium with water and food.

As crowds left the stadium on Saturday night, there were reports of unrest near the site, the police said.

After Matheus Duarte, 24, a warehouse worker, left the stadium and went to a shopping mall nearby, he saw people yelling that there was a raid.

“I don’t really know if it really happened, but I saw desperate people running,” Duarte said. “And as soon as I saw it, I started running along and hid in a car park.”

On Sunday, the military police said there had been no reports of robberies or muggings the night before. But before the concert on Sunday, a fan in Rio de Janeiro for the concert was stabbed to death after an attempted robbery in Copacabana, the famous beachside strip, the military police said. Two men had been arrested, they said. The fan, Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos, was with friends when he was stabbed, the civil police said.

During Friday’s show, Ana Clara Benevides, 23, died after losing consciousness, officials said. She was pronounced dead of cardiac arrest after being taken to a hospital, according to city officials and the Brazilian company that organized Swift’s show, Time for Fun.

Benevides, a psychology student, had traveled from Rondonópolis, which is about 880 miles northwest of Rio de Janeiro, for the concert, O Globo reported . Her friend Emiliane Félix, 22, told O Globo that Benevides had been sending her friends photos of her outfits for the concert “for over a month.”

On X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Benevides shared her excitement about the concert, writing on Nov. 7, “I don’t know what my purpose in life will be after I see Taylor.”

Fans at the concert on Friday complained about a lack of water and extreme heat. The heat index, reached 139 degrees Fahrenheit, a record for Rio.

In an online post, Swift said she was “devastated” by her fan’s death. “I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it,” she said.

Luiza Guimarães, 33, an economist, said that she was disappointed it took so long for Saturday’s show to be canceled because some fans were already unsure if it would go on after Benevides’s death and were worried about the heat. “Really, the production of the show was very reckless and everything was very poorly managed,” she said.

Guimarães said that she doesn’t blame Swift for the problems and that she thought the musician must be “very, very discouraged.”

Reporting was contributed by Genevieve Glatsky in Rio de Janeiro and Jack Nicas in Buenos Aires.

An earlier version of this article misstated the reason Taylor Swift had to reschedule a concert in Buenos Aires. It was because of a storm, not heat.

An earlier version of this article misstated the title of a Taylor Swift song. It is “You Belong With Me,” not “You Belong to Me.”

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The deaths of two people, muggings and a dangerous heat wave left legions of Taylor Swift’s Brazilian fans angry and disappointed in the three-day Rio de Janeiro leg of the pop superstar’s Eras Tour, which concludes Monday night.

Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos, 25, a fan who had traveled from the country’s center-west region to see Swift, was stabbed to death on a Copacabana beach about 3 a.m. Monday, Rio’s police said in a statement.

It was the second death of a Swift fan in four days. On Friday, 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado fell ill during the singer’s first show in the city, and died later that evening at a hospital.

Fans also reported fainting from extreme heat , being mugged or getting caught up in a police raid.

Rio’s Municipal Health Department said Benevides, who, according to a friend, passed out during Swift’s second song, “Cruel Summer,” experienced cardiorespiratory arrest, but the exact cause of her death is not yet known. Rio’s Forensic Medical Institute examined the body Saturday and said additional laboratory tests had to be conducted, the online news site G1 reported.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Swift said Benevides’ death left her with a “shattered heart.”

Before the show Friday, fans lined up for hours outside the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium where temperatures soared to 41 degrees Celsius (105 Fahrenheit), with a heat index of nearly 59 C (138 F). Inside the stadium, concertgoers complained of unbearable heat and some said they had difficulty getting access to water.

“I didn’t imagine that my dream could turn into a nightmare,” said fan Kléssia Menezes, who told R7 TV that she had gotten stuck with hundreds of other people on one of the ramps to a VIP area Saturday as security officers blocked the entrance.

Once security let them through, she said, people started running and she fell on a hot metallic floor that burned her leg and back.

“They took me to the doctor ... and I saw that I wasn’t the only person to have fallen in this chaos,” she said. “Many people fell and burned themselves.”

Ultimately, that night’s show was postponed , after tens of thousands of fans had spent hours lining up in the heat. Swift announced on Instagram that it was necessary “due to the extreme temperatures in Rio.”

A fan who identified herself as Julia Alvarenga said she was upset that Swift didn’t decide to cancel earlier.

“My friend, can you see how much I’m sweating, how all the pores in my body are dilated from the sweat?” Alvarenga asked, visibly angry, in a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. She then pointed to her waist, highlighting the extreme measures she had taken to attend a concert for which she knew she would stand in line for hours. “I’m wearing a diaper, a geriatric diaper,” she says, urging the artist to appear. “Come on stage, I want to see you!”

The postponement was followed by chaos outside the stadium. Under a light rain, a mass of concertgoers left the area, which is close to one of Rio’s working-class neighborhoods, known as favelas.

Videos shared on social media showed groups of pickpockets robbing fans of their belongings, scenes not so unusual to Rio residents, but far from the postcards many tourists have seen of the “cidade maravilhosa.”

Many took refuge inside a Burger King, ducking for cover under tables and behind the counter in the kitchen area. Heavily armed police raided the fast food restaurant’s basement as loud sirens blared and those stuck outside the restaurant shouted. Some of those who were able to escape in taxis were overcharged by the drivers.

Saturday’s show was postponed to Monday night, but many who had traveled from other regions of Brazil and outside the country had already made plans to leave earlier.

“We’re not going to be able to make it,” said Hely Olivares, a 41 year-old Venezuelan who had traveled from Panama. “A lot of people have wasted their journey.”

Taylor Swift returns to the Rio stage after fan's death, show postponement

taylor swift tour brasil 2023

Taylor Swift returned to the Rio de Janeiro stage Sunday after a heavy weekend following the death of a 23-year-old fan .

"How lucky do you have to be to have 65,000 people dance in the pouring rain with you?" she asked the crowd at the top of the show. "I've never gotten to bring a tour to Brazil before and you've been so supportive to me ever since the beginning of my career."

Swift added, "I love you so much and I'm so happy to see your faces tonight you have no idea." Later on during the singer's set, the crowd erupted after "Champagne Problems" as Swift teared up mouthing "I love you," according to social media footage.

More precautions were put in place Sunday following the death of Ana Clara Benevides Machado, who attended the Eras Tour on Friday night. As a result of Benevides' death, Swift informed fans via an Instagram statement that the Friday show would be postponed "due to the extreme temperatures in Rio."

"The safety and well being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first," Swift added in the handwritten note.

During Sunday's show, firefighters sprayed the crowd with water outside of the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium to help fans stay cool. Free water, cups and handheld fans were also provided to concertgoers.

Swift made no mention Sunday of the death of Benevides or the postponed show.

On Friday, in a separate social media statement, Swift wrote: "I'm not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it."

Saturday's show was postponed to Monday due to the excessive heat. Swift has one more stop on the 2023 leg of the Eras Tour: São Paulo, Brazil.

Free water provided at Taylor Swift's Sunday show

The show's organizer, Time4Fun (@t4f on Instagram), released a statement on Sunday , announcing that free water would be available at all entrances to the stadium as well as inside.

They said sealed bottles and sealed processed food would also be permitted. Two hundred more employees were hired to join the 1,230 professionals who have been working the event, including security guards, brigade members, audience advisors and medical care staff.

What happened to Taylor Swift fan, Ana Clara Benevides?

Benevides' cause of death has not yet been announced. She had sought medical attention at the stadium and local media reports from Brazil said she suffered cardiac arrest.

The death shook many fans and politicians in Brazil. Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes  said the "loss of a young woman’s life ... is unacceptable," in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Rio's public prosecutor opened a criminal investigation and said Benevides' body was being examined.

According to the news site G1 , per The Associated Press, Benevides created a WhatsApp group to keep her family updated with photos and videos of her trip. Benevides sent a video to family members that was broadcast by TV channel Globo News, telling them: “Mom, look at the plane, it’s moving. Mom, I’m on the plane. My God in heaven! I’m happy!”

Then before the concert, she posted a video of herself on Instagram wearing a Taylor Swift T-shirt and friendship bracelets, seeking shade under an umbrella while waiting in line to enter the stadium.

Benevides’ friend, Daniele Menin, who attended the concert with her, told online news site G1 that her friend passed out at the beginning of the concert, as Swift performed her second song, “Cruel Summer.”

Taylor Swift fans speak out about Friday show in Brazil

Fans who attended the Friday show said they were not allowed to bring water bottles into the stadium even though Rio and most of Brazil have had record-breaking temperatures this week amid  a dangerous and lasting heat wave . The daytime high in Rio on Friday was 39.1 degrees Celsius (102.4 degrees Fahrenheit), but it felt much hotter.

Apparent temperature — a combination of temperature and humidity — hit 59 C (138 F) Friday morning in Rio, the highest index ever recorded there.

Elizabeth Morin, 26, who recently moved to Rio from Los Angeles, described “sauna-like” conditions inside the stadium.

“It was extremely hot. My hair got so wet from sweat as soon as I came in,” she told The Associated Press in an interview. “There was a point at which I had to check my breathing to make sure I wasn’t going to pass out.”

Morin said she drank plenty of water but saw “a good amount of people looking distressed” and others “yelling for water.” She said she was able to get water from the sidelines of the area she was standing in, but that water was a lot harder to access from other parts of the stadium, “especially if you were concerned about losing your specific position.”

Taylor Swift pauses performance to give fans water

During the Friday show, Swift paused her performance and asked from the stage for water to be brought to a group of people who had successfully caught the singer's attention, according to Morin.

“They were holding up their phones saying ‘We need water,’” she recalled.

Taylor Swift has been at the forefront of the vinyl resurgence, which has taken over the U.S. music industry in the past decade. The format, which was once considered all but dead, is surging in popularity, and this week, Swift shows why she’s the queen of vinyl with her latest album.

The Tortured Poets Department has broken the all-time record for the largest sales week for any album on vinyl in U.S. history. According to Billboard , which cites numbers from Luminate, Swift’s latest release has already sold 700,000 copies on vinyl. That’s a new one-week best showing for wax records.

Swift breaks her own record for the largest vinyl sales week in American history. Before The Tortured Poets Department arrived, that title belonged to her previous release, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) . That re-recording of her pop set 1989 sold 693,000 copies on vinyl in its first week of availability just last year.

The Tortured Poets Department may now claim the largest sales week for a vinyl album in the U.S., but it’s still just getting started. That 700,000 number is only as of Sunday, April 21. That means that Swift shattered her own one-week record in just three days, as the title dropped on Friday, April 19.

The first tracking frame for The Tortured Poets Department won’t end until this coming Thursday (April 25). By that point, the album’s sales total–both when it comes to vinyl and on other formats–will surely be much higher.

Looking at all forms of purchasing, The Tortured Poets Department’s first-week total is much, much larger than just its vinyl number. The set has already sold 1.5 million copies across all formats, including CD, cassette, and digital download.

The Tortured Poets Department is a surefire bet for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 next week. Including streaming equivalent units, the title is barreling toward the two million mark, which it will almost surely reach by the time Thursday ends. The new set will give Swift the largest debut of her career, and it will also mark the largest start on any Billboard ranking in years.

THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY

In the 18 months after Taylor Swift released Midnights, it often felt as though the universe had fully opened up to her. The Eras Tour was breaking records and blowing past the billion-dollar mark; its attendant concert film became the highest-grossing of all time. She generated interest and commerce and headlines everywhere she stepped foot, from tour stops to the tunnels of NFL stadiums. In 2023, she was named both TIME magazine’s Person of the Year and—just as iconic, tbh—Apple Music’s Artist of the Year. But do songs about that level of success speak to you? As the news broke that her highly private six-year relationship to Joe Alwyn had ended, Swifties started Swiftie-ing, quickly recirculating a clip on social media of Swift a few weeks earlier, onstage during an early Eras show, in tears as she sang “champagne problems”—a song she and Alwyn had written together. It was a reminder that, despite the superhero-like aura she now radiates, Swift, at her peak, still hurts like the rest of us. What sets her apart is her ability to sublimate that pain into pop. When she announced her 11th studio album in early 2024—while accepting another Grammy, as one does—we probably shouldn’t have been surprised. “I needed to make it,” she’d say of THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT a few weeks later, to a crowd of—[rubs eyes]—96,000 in Melbourne, Australia. “I’ve never had an album where I’ve needed songwriting more than I needed it on TORTURED POETS.” Working again with trusted collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, she returns to the soft, comfortable, bed-like sonics of Midnights. But the stakes feel noticeably higher here: This isn’t so much a breakup album as it is a deep-sea exploration of everything Swift has been feeling, a plunge through emotional debris. On “But Daddy I Love Him”—over strings and guitar that faintly recall her country roots—she lashes out at the crush of scrutiny and expectation she’s been subject to from the start. Naturally, catharsis comes after the chorus: “I’ll tell you something right now,” she sings. “I’d rather burn my whole life down than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning.” On “Florida!!!” she and Florence + the Machine team up for a pulpy escape fantasy wherein they Thelma and Louise their way down to the Sunshine State in hopes of starting over with new lives and identities: “Love left me like this,” they sing. “And I don’t want to exist.” At turns hilarious and heartbreaking, TTPD is a study in extremes, Swift leaning into heightened emotions with heightened, hyperbolic, ALL-CAPS language and imagery—how we think when we’re drunk on love or flattened by its sudden disappearance. Note the dark humor she weaves through the Post Malone-enriched opener “Fortnight” (“Your wife waters flowers/I wanna kill her”). Or the thrilling self-deprecation of “Down Bad,” a foray into science fiction wherein Swift likens the warmth of a relationship to being abducted by love-bombing extraterrestrials—only to be left “naked and alone, in a field in my same old town.” But this remains her most candid and unsparing work to date: As a listener, you frequently get the feeling that you’ve stumbled across emails she’d written but never sent, or into conversations you were never meant to hear. There’s a density and a specificity and a ferocity to her lyrical work here that makes 2012’s “All Too Well” feel sorta light by comparison. If you’re the kind of Swiftie who likes to live in the details, well, this one might be your Super Bowl. “You swore that you loved me, but where were the clues?” she asks on the devastating “So Long, London,” a high point. “I died on the altar waiting for the proof.” Alone at a piano on the haunting “loml,” she flips the script on someone who’d told her she was the love of their life, by telling them that they were the loss of hers: “I’ll still see it until I die.” The story, as you likely know, doesn’t end there. We get a glimpse of new beginnings in “The Alchemy” (“This happens once every few lifetimes/These chemicals hit me like white wine”) and something like triumph in the montage-ready synths of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” when Swift, shattered on the floor, “as the crowd was chanting, ‘More!’,” still finds the strength to deliver: “’Cause I’m a real tough kid and I can handle my shit.” But we also get a sense of acceptance, of newfound perspective. On “Clara Bow”—named after a 1920s movie star who was able to survive the jump from silent film to sound—Swift reflects on the journey of a small-town girl made good, sung from the vantage of an industry obsessed with the next big thing. She zooms out and out and out until, in the album’s closing seconds, she’s singing about herself in the third person, in past tense, acknowledging that nothing is forever. “You look like Taylor Swift in this light, we’re loving it,” she sings. “You’ve got edge she never did/The future’s bright, dazzling.”

‘Satanic rituals’ at Taylor Swift shows? That’s false. And experts say the attack isn’t new.

Experts say musicians have been accused of performing satanic rituals for decades.

taylor swift tour brasil 2023

Social media users have their pitchforks and proof, as Taylor Swift lyrics famously say, and they’re hunting for Satan worshippers. The current target? Swift herself.

“Taylor Swift is doing satanic rituals during her shows,” said a man in an  April 12 Facebook reel .

“This is now coming just blatantly,” he said, as footage played of Swift wearing a green cloak surrounded by dancers holding golden orbs. “You’ve got Taylor Swift doing all kinds of witchcraft rituals and satanic stuff on stage.”

Then he showed a clip from Swift’s “Karma” music video, saying: “It shows Taylor Swift in what appears to be hell wearing what appears to be a devil mask.”

taylor swift tour brasil 2023

“Nice devil mask there, Taylor Swift,” he said. “Why the devil mask? Why this kind of imagery?”

In another Facebook  video , a man claimed one of Swift’s hand gestures during her Eras Tour show was the singer “throwing up the devil horns.”

These posts were flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our  partnership with Meta , which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

Swift’s catalog of lyrics includes mentions of witches, devils and angels. She sings, “Women like hunting witches, too,” in “Mad Woman” from her 2020 album “Folklore.” In the 2019 song “Cruel Summer,” she sings, “Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes.” We found no mentions of Satan, Lucifer or satanic rituals.

Although some critics have  claimed  her Eras Tour performance of the song “Willow” promotes witchcraft, we found no evidence that Swift’s performances intentionally feature satanic rituals. The “Willow” dance appears to be a stage adaptation of a similar scene from her  music video .

There is  no clear evidence  Satan worship has ever  been practiced  in an organized and widespread way, so it isn’t clear what “Satanic rituals” the post claimed Swift was performing.

Lucien Greaves, co-founder of The Satanic Temple, a religious organization that the IRS recognizes as a tax-exempt church, said that he sees public concern raised about celebrities and alleged satanism almost every month. He called claims like these “incredibly asinine conspiracy theories.”

What would a “satanic ritual” even look like? It’s not clear. The Satanic Temple’s frequently asked questions  page says  the group does not worship Satan or believe Satan — or anything “supernatural” — exists. There is no sacred scripture nor any required rituals. It is a religion because it  provides  “a sense of identity, culture, community, and shared values,” the website says.

Some members may perform rituals they find “personally meaningful” and that are tailored to their individual needs, the  FAQ page  said. Such rituals may include “unbaptisms,” in which people renounce superstitions imposed on them without consent, and destruction rituals, in which people destroy an object they own that symbolizes a source of pain.

We found no evidence that Swift has engaged in any of those activities. She has publicly described herself as a Christian.

In the 2020 documentary “Miss Americana,” she expressed frustration with the policy positions of then-Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. (Swift endorsed Blackburn’s  democratic opponent  in 2018; Blackburn was elected in November 2018.)

“Those aren’t ‘Tennessee Christian values,’” Swift said. “I live in Tennessee. I am Christian. That’s not what we stand for.”

Still, like a line from Swift’s “Reputation” album — “they’re burning all the witches, even if you aren’t one” — the lack of evidence hasn’t stopped social media claims linking Swift to satanism or devil worship.

Swift previously appeared to poke fun at the witchcraft attacks. In November, she shared  a video  captured during a performance, when she was singing about an airplane and a plane happened to fly overhead at the open-air stadium, with the caption, “Never beating the sorcery allegations.”

We contacted Swift’s spokesperson and received no reply.

A history of musicians facing satanism accusations

Experts told PolitiFact that musicians have long been accused of performing satanic rituals.

“When someone goes looking for signs of satanic ritual, they will find those signs everywhere, from the packaging on products they buy to stop signs,” said Susan Campbell, a distinguished lecturer in the University of New Haven’s Department of Communication, Film and Media Studies.

Joseph Uscinski, a University of Miami political science professor who studies conspiracy theories, agreed that “people see what they want to see.”

“There is a long history of satanic panics in the United States,” Uscinski said. In the 1980s, “all of my favorite bands were accused of taking part in satanic rituals: Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden.”

Campbell said fans of the rock band Kiss might recall warnings that the band’s name stood for “Knights In Satan’s Service” and related rumors that listeners were “guilty of worshiping Satan.”

“Love the band, hate the band, there is no evidence that members or fans of Kiss worship the devil,” Campbell said.

Campbell said she thinks that Swift’s  2020 endorsement  of President Joe Biden and her  success in encouraging  her fans to register to vote “opened the door for people” to falsely attack her.

“The better approach when faced with such nonsense is a fairly simple two-step process,” Campbell said. “1. Consider the source of these rumors and 2. Do a little digging for yourself.”

A Facebook post says, “Taylor Swift is doing satanic rituals during her shows.”

Swift’s songs mention neither Satan nor Satanic rituals. Swift has publicly described herself as a Christian.

The leader of The Satanic Temple dismissed the allegations about Swift as conspiracy theories, and there is no clear evidence Satan worship has ever been practiced in an organized and widespread way.

At PolitiFact, the burden of proof is on the speaker. Absent proof, we rate this claim False.

Mystery Taylor Swift Mural Appears in Chicago Featuring 'Error 321' Easter Egg: What Does It Mean?

The pop superstar will release her 11th studio album 'The Tortured Poets Department' on Friday, April 19

With Taylor Swift 's new album The Tortured Poets Department coming out soon, it's time for Swifties to put on their sleuthing caps and decode some Easter eggs .

Several days before the Friday, April 19 release of the pop superstar's 11th studio album, mysterious murals have begun popping up in Chicago that include repetition of the text "TTPD" and "13." Fans were quick to recognize the nods to the puzzle-loving singer, 34, and took photos of the visuals, which they shared on social media .

According to viral posts from fans, the murals include a QR code, which links to a YouTube Short on Swift's official YouTube that includes the text "Error 321" as it's spelled out in a typewriter-like font, as well as the number 13 beneath it.

Swifties may remember that "Error 321" first appeared just before the singer-songwriter announced The Tortured Poets Department at the 2024 Grammys in February.

Moments before she revealed a new album was on the way while accepting the gramophone for best pop vocal album , her website went dark to include the error code and the text "hneriergrd," which fans discovered was an anagram for "red herring."

Although it's yet to be confirmed what the significance of "Error 321" is, it often indicates an error in communication across telephone lines, fax machines, etcetera.

As the release of The Tortured Poets Department approaches, Swift has teased the effort with a handful of Easter eggs, including a countdown clock that launched with her favorite number, 13 , and posts on social media featuring snippets of lyrics.

During the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, she posted a clip on her Instagram Stories featuring the line, "Crowd goes wild at her fingertips/Half moonshine, Full eclipse," and a link to pre-order her new record.

Fans have speculated that the LP will largely be about heartbreak, as it comes nearly a year following her break-up with her former boyfriend of six years, Joe Alywn .

The "Karma" singer also recently curated a set of playlists for Apple Music featuring songs from throughout her discography as they're broken into the "five stages of heartbreak:" denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Shortly after the hitmaker announced her follow-up to 2022's Midnights was on the way, she unveiled the tracklist on Instagram .

The Tortured Poets Department is set to include 16 songs, with additional tracks on various deluxe versions. It'll also feature appearances from two special guests: Florence and the Machine and Post Malone .

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free daily newsletter  to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

Swift's frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff is said to have worked with her on much of the album, and it seems as though another one of her recurrent producers, Aaron Dessner , also contributed to the project.

When the "Cruel Summer" singer teased additional lyrics and a limited edition vinyl pressing of the LP, it appeared as though most of his name could be seen on an image of the physical copy at the pre-order link.

The Tortured Poets Department is due out on Friday, April 19.

Taylor Swift's Longtime BFF Emma Stone Had A Surprising And Unexpected Credit On Her New Song "Florida!!!"

Is there a better friendship in Hollywood?

Joseph Longo

BuzzFeed Staff

It's The Tortured Poets Department release day! On Friday, Taylor Swift dropped her 11th studio album.

Taylor Swift in a flowing dress while performing on stage

The Tortured Poets Department features Post Malone and Florence + the Machine guest appearances. There's also a second volume called The Anthology . There are 31 new songs from Taylor in total, and they've taken the internet by storm.

Fans are dissecting lyrics to hypothesize if certain songs might be about Taylor's boyfriend Travis Kelce or her ex Joe Alwyn.

Some are even convinced Taylor is singing about her reported fling with Matty Healy last year and her years-long feud with Kim Kardashian on other tracks.

But there's another celebrity connected to the album (in addition to Taylor's frequent collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner), and this person is one of Taylor's longtime pals.

It's Emma Stone.

According to People , the actor received a credit on "Florida!!!," which is Taylor's song that features Florence + the Machine. The extent of Emma's involvement with the song is unclear. Entertainment Weekly reports that Emma is listed in the song's liner notes as having contributed "oddities."

BuzzFeed reached out to a representative for Emma for confirmation of her involvement with the song.

This isn't the first time Emma has been associated with one of Taylor's songs. In July 2023, Taylor dropped a track titled "When Emma Falls in Love" on her re-released version of Speak Now.

While neither Emma nor Taylor have confirmed the song is about the actor, fans have speculated that "When Emma Falls in Love" was written about the Poor Things star. Notably, the song was reportedly among the tracks written for but not included on the original Speak Now release in 2010, meaning it's been around for a while.

This would track with Emma and Taylor's friendship, as they reportedly first met at the Young Hollywood Awards in 2008.

They've maintained a strong friendship over the years, like when Taylor attended the premiere of Emma's movie Easy A in 2010.

More recently, Taylor was spotted attending a screening for Poor Things in December of last year.

And backstage at the Golden Globes in January, Emma Stone even jokingly said of Taylor Swift cheering on her Best Actress Musical or Comedy win that night for Poor Things, " What an asshole, am I right?"

Taylor was in attendance as she and her concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour were nominated in a new category, Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

Emma added at the Golden Globes of Taylor, "I’ve known her for almost 20 years, and I was very happy she was there. Taylor was also nominated tonight which was wonderful and, yes, what an asshole." What a friendship!

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour took over Houston in 2023. Can The Rolling Stones top it?

T he Rolling Stones tour is set to make a stop at NRG Stadium Sunday for the band’s first Houston concert since 2019. The performance comes on the heels of an album release by another music legend — Taylor Swift — whose three-day stop in Houston one year ago received shows of appreciation from fans and elected officials alike.

With the Stones' Hackney Diamonds Tour underway and Swift's 11th studio album , "The Tortured Poets Department,” that dropped last week, both music industry icons maintain dedicated fanbases worldwide.

The 1960s rock n' roll band has been performing for decades. The Stones hold a record for drawing one of the largest crowds in rock n’ roll history during a show in Rio de Janeiro , with 1.5 million people, PBS reported. Swift is no stranger to large crowds either, with one of her shows in Melbourne seeing more than 96,000 people, according to Deadline.

However, both music artists made their mark in Houston during their most recent concerts: the Stones' No Filter Tour in 2019 and Swift's Eras Tour in 2023. The success of their concerts highlighted their strong fanbases in the Bayou City.

TAYLOR SWIFT : Here's a look at Texas ties to the latest release 'The Tortured Poets Department'

How did the city react to The Rolling Stones' 2019 concert?

Excited fans first caught on to the Rolling Stones’ planned 2019 Houston concert when NRG Park teased the tour stop in an email. Park officials sent an email to subscribers with the band's logo at the end of the email and no further explanation.

The 2019 show would be the Stones’ first Houston appearance in more than 10 years. The group even teamed up with the NFL for a Houston Texans—Rolling Stones jersey.

NRG Stadium officials said the venue is happy to have the band back any time.

"We're thrilled to host the legendary Rolling Stones at NRG Stadium as the first stop on their Hackney Diamonds Tour. As Mick Jagger might say, 'Start me up' – and what better place to kick off this iconic tour than right here in Houston? We look forward to welcoming fans from near and far to enjoy a night of timeless rock 'n' roll classics. Get ready to rock the night away at NRG Stadium!" stadium officials said in a statement.

How did the city react to Taylor Swift's 2023 concert?

Houston was the second city on Swift's Eras Tour .

A marketing campaign was launched to temporarily rename NRG Stadium to "NRG Stadium - Taylor's Version," initiated by NRG Park and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's office. Banners were placed with the temporary name on the stadium's north and south entrances.
