The Ultimate Travel Guide To Las Vegas: Knowing Sin City's Best Tips & Tricks

Prep for a visit to Las Vegas with this all-inclusive travel guide, complete with tips on getting the most out of a Sin City trip.

Quick Links

What to know when visiting las vegas, best time to visit las vegas, best ways to get around sin city, where to stay on the strip, where to eat in las vegas, top vegas attractions, costs in las vegas to know about, tips for visiting vegas.

Las Vegas is the gambling and vice capital of the United States, and it has an interesting history . There is plenty to see and do in this city (and plenty to know about visiting in advance). Las Vegas is nicknamed "Sin City" for good reason and its catchphrase "What Happens In Vegas, Stays In Vegas" epitomizes what Vegas is all about (or at least how it markets itself), although it has changed over the years .

Vegas is also one of those destinations that can be very affordable — and even family-friendly — or as expensive as one can imagine. It all comes down to what visitors want to do, what their expectations are when they go, and how well they plan.

Las Vegas can be a family-friendly destination, but that is not its primary focus. Vegas is a top destination for bachelorette parties and for the ultimate nightlife and vice. There are many adult advertisements that parents may not want their children to see.

Vegas gets expensive if one visits at the wrong times, but is affordable during the week (especially in the off-season).

Vegas is not all about Vegas and The Strip. Vegas is also about visiting the Hoover Dam , The Grand Canyon, and the Mojave Desert .

That being said, the main attractions are gambling, shows, nightlife, and adult-related attractions.

Las Vegas is situated in a hot desert, and so during the summer, it can be sweltering hot, although it can be visited throughout the year.

The best time to visit Vegas is before and after the sweltering heat of summer — March to May and from September to November.

  • Best Time To Visit: March to May & September to November
  • Busiest Times: Around New Year's Eve, the Super Bowl, and Valentine's Day

By going in the shoulder seasons of the year, visitors get to enjoy some of the most moderate weather. The winter months are also a great time to visit weather-wise, but it also receives large influxes of visitors (especially around New Year's Eve, the Super Bowl, and Valentine's Day).

Summer doesn't need to be off the books either; visitors are just likely to spend more time in their casino hotels and the swimming pools and less time on an excursion in the desert.

As with all American cities (apart from perhaps New York City), the best way to get around the wider city is by car, especially for jaunts over to (relatively) nearby Reno . However, parking can be a problem on The Strip.

The major hotels offer shuttle services — they may be for an extra fee or complimentary.

If one is planning to just stay in The Strip for a few days and if one is flying into Sin City, it may not be worth hiring a car.

Vegas also has plenty of public transportation options to get around. It boasts a monorail, trams (they are free in Las Vegas), and a bus transportation network.

Monorail Fees:

  • One-Ride: $5
  • 1-Day Pass: $13

Without a car, perhaps the most convenient way to get around is with ride-sharing; Uber and Lyft work really well, and often the cost of a trip will be only around $10.00.

The Strip is full of some of the most famous casinos in the world, like The Venetian Las Vegas, The Palazzo at the Venetian, Caesars Palace, MGM Grand, Resorts World, Paris Las Vegas, and many more. These are all on — or near — the famous Strip.

  • Accommodation: The Venetian Las Vegas
  • Address: 3355 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV 89109-8941
  • Amenities: Free Parking, Free Internet, Pool

Staying on the Strip means that people can enjoy being right in the heart of the neon-light attractions of Vegas. Many things are also within walking distance, and so visitors don't need to worry about getting taxis or public transportation.

  • Accommodation: The Palazzo at the Venetian
  • Address: 3325 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89109-1414

All of these casinos are great options offering some excellent deals. Some hotels offer up to 30% off for longer stays when booking three or more nights.

  • Accommodation: Caesars Palace
  • Address: 3570 Las Vegas Blvd South, Las Vegas, NV 89109
  • Amenities: EV Charging Station, Free WiFi, Pool
  • Accommodation: Bellagio Las Vegas
  • Address: 3600 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV 89109-4303
  • Amenities: EV Charging Station, Fitness Center, Pool

There are plenty of excellent accommodation options as well off the Strip in quieter places in Las Vegas.

One great option is the Las Vegas Pool and Lazy River Complex (part of the stunning Tahiti Village) — it is arguably worth booking just for its lazy river.

Vegas has just about every type of restaurant and dining option ( including themed restaurants ) one can think of - there are far too many great dining options to list out in detail here.

Perhaps the most unusual (and cringe) place to eat is at the Heart Attack Grill — not recommended for those on a diet.

Some of the top places to eat in Vegas are:

  • Primal Steakhouse
  • Edge Steakhouse
  • Fresco Italiano
  • Weera Thai Restaurant
  • Omelet House
  • Esther's Kitchen
  • Italian American Club
  • Arawan Thai Bistro and Dessert

Vegas also has plenty of great places to grab an adult beverage .

Vegas is full of attractions; it has some of the world's premier shopping destinations, many of the world's most famous casinos, innumerable excursions in the desert around Vegas, and Neon lights galore.

But must-dos in Vegas include the Vegas shows and a day trip to the Grand Canyon.

Top Attractions In And Around Vegas:

  • The Strip: Walk the strip at night (but be aware of the surroundings) — adults only
  • Recommended Tour: Las Vegas Strip by Limo with Personal Photographer
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Cost: From $499.99 USD per group ( Up to 8)

Book this tour

  • Helicopter Rides Over Las Vegas & The Grand Canyon: Great day tour option
  • Recommended Tour: Las Vegas Helicopter Night Flight with Optional VIP Transportation
  • Cost: From $89.99 USD per adult
  • The High Roller Observation Wheel: One of the largest Ferris wheels in the world
  • Recommended Tour: The High Roller at The LINQ Ticket
  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Cost: From $28.12 USD per adult
  • The Mob Museum: Learn about the history of crime in the US
  • Recommended Tour: Las Vegas Mob Museum Admission Ticket
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Cost: From $32.5 USD per adult

Additionally, many casinos have their own iconic attractions. The Venetian Hotel has its gondola rides, the Paris hotel has a reconstruction of the Eiffel Tower, and the Bellagio Resort has the (free to watch) Fountain Show.

Vegas is almost unique in how affordable (or even cheap) some of the accommodations can be. Great rooms in some massive casino hotels can be found for $50.00 or less a night for two.

To enjoy the great deals, look on the hotel's websites for upcoming deals (as well as various Vegas-dedicated websites).

The casinos can offer rooms at great rates because they are planning to make more money through their casinos, restaurants, and in-house shopping malls.

One of the key things to plan around is to try to visit Vegas during the midweek. Vegas is a very popular destination for Americans over the weekend, so prices shoot up on the weekend.

If possible, plan to visit Las Vegas between Tuesday and Thursday.

The best thing one can do in Vegas is to plan ahead and look for great hotel deals.

But there are also exceptions for planning ahead. If one is traveling with an eye on the budget and is happy to be flexible with what show to watch, then book show tickets at the last minute .

  • Car Hire: Don't bother
  • Download: Lyft & Uber
  • Stay Hydrated: It gets super hot in Las Vegas; drink plenty of water!

Vegas is a city that never sleeps, with some of its businesses not closing through the night. Learn more about current events and offerings at Las Vegas' dedicated tourism website .

Q: How much does it cost to visit Las Vegas?

How much a Las Vegas trip is going to cost depends on a range of factors . It depends on when one goes (some seasons are much more expensive as are the weekends). Gambling is a large variable for folks visiting Las Vegas as well.

As a rough guide, reckon on spending around $2,700 for a week for a couple or $1,500 for a solo traveler. Hotels range from as low as around $30 per night to well into the hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Q: How long should a trip to Las Vegas be?

How much time a first-timer needs to visit Las Vegas really depends on the person and what they want to get out of their trip to Sin City.

A single night is enough time to walk The Strip , visit a few casinos, go to a show, and perhaps do a little gambling on the side.

It is very common to spend a long weekend there, but the best to spend around five days — that's enough time for multiple shows, day tours of the Grand Canyon, and to get the feel of the city much more.

Q: What is the best month to travel to Las Vegas?

The best months to visit Las Vegas are the more affordable shoulder seasons — March, April, October, and November (the summer is very hot).

But really the "best" month really depends on what the "best" means for each individual person (some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it...).

For most folks, spring and autumn are perhaps the best months to visit.

Q: Is it worth it to visit Las Vegas?

A trip to Las Vegas is a must for almost every traveler, whether they're interested in gambling, the lights and sounds of the Strip, or simply want to get out and enjoy the nightlife and great food.

In terms of comparisons, there are none; even Atlantic City can't stack up to what Vegas offers .

Las Vegas Itinerary – 4 Days in Sin City!

  • Post category: USA

Las Vegas … the best city in the world! Filled with endless entertainment, unique history, jaw-dropping landscapes, world-renowned food and SO much more. Sin city has so much to offer, how is someone supposed to condense it into only a four day itinerary?! Well my friends, it has been done. Get ready for a well-rounded, budget friendly and fun filled 4 days!

In this guide I will share the ultimate way to spend 4 days in Las Vegas , best way to get to the city, what to pack, best time of year to visit, best day trips near the area and some local tips. Okay, let’s dive in!

Where is Las Vegas?

Las Vegas is located on the southern tip of Nevada, close to famous sites like the Grand Canyon , Death Valley , Antelope Canyon , Horseshoe Bend , Bryce Canyon , Zion National Park and more! Many people love to travel to Las Vegas and road trips to all of these famous parks, all while spending a few days in this amazing city.

To get to Las Vegas, you will need to fly into the major airport, McCarran International Airport ( check prices here ). From there, The Strip and Downtown are only a short 10-15 minute drive. There is an abundant amount of Lyft/Uber and Taxis to take you where you need to go, some hotels will even offer free shuttle service to/from the airport.

What to pack for Las Vegas

What you should be packing for your Las Vegas trip will depend on what you want to do and the season you are traveling in. The most important things to remember are that it is HOT in Las Vegas most of the year and a lot of nightclubs, bars and restaurants will have a dress code.

If you are traveling during the warmer months, I would definitely recommend packing breathable and light clothing, lots of sunblock, and nicer attire for your nighttime activities. If you are traveling during the winter months, it can still be 70 degrees in the winter in Las Vegas, so make sure you check the weather before traveling.

I have an extremely detailed guide on what to pack for Las Vegas ( you can read that here ), but here are my top 3 suggestions:

Sunblock Packets : These things are the size of a ketchup packet and can easily be kept in your pocket while you are exploring Las Vegas. I bring these packets on 99% of my travels because they are so easy to reapply while on the go!

Good walking shoes : Even though “The Strip” is only a little over 2 miles in length, your walking could easily triple if you go in and out of the casinos. The number one mistake travelers make is not realizing how large the casinos are and how much there is to see in each one.

Hangover Remedy : If you plan on doing any drinking while in Las Vegas (which, I would bet you plan to!), you need to trust me on this one! These babies save my life time and time again, and now it’s time for them to save yours! Traveling to Las Vegas is both a marathon AND a sprint. You will need to make sure you stay hydrated in order to keep up with all the drinking activities this town has to offer, ha! :)

Best time of year to travel to Las Vegas

Las Vegas is blessed with year round, amazing weather. You really can’t go wrong! If I had to choose, I would choose late spring or early fall (the shoulder seasons). The weather will be around 70 degrees (21 degrees celsius), sunny and all of the popular beach clubs will still be open.

If you travel in the winter months, just be aware that you will be missing out on one of the best activities in Las Vegas: The Beach Clubs! These day clubs are only open between late spring – early fall because the weather must be nice. However, you will likely get cheaper prices during the winter months, so up to you!

4 Days in Las Vegas

Day 1: sightseeing.

If it’s your first time traveling to Las Vegas, you will want to dedicate a full day to seeing all the highlights and tourist attractions! Lucky for you, the majority of the tourist attractions are closely linked together, along a 2 mile “Strip.”

Las Vegas Sign Las Vegas Itinerary - 4 Days in Sin City!

The Las Vegas Strip is a cluster of city-themed hotels where you can easily take the free tram services or walk between them. I would recommend grouping a few hotels that look interesting to you, and seeing that bundle within a day. Here is an example of a FREE walking tour:

  • Start at the Las Vegas Sign where you can snap your photo in front of the iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas.” Beware that there WILL be a long line to get your photo, but don’t worry, the line moves quickly!
  • From there, drive over to the Cosmopolitan Hotel to explore their luxurious casino and enjoy a drink at the best bar in town, The Chandelier Bar ! This three-story bar is enclosed with pink beads, making it look like you are drinking inside of a chandelier.
  • Next up, take the free tram from the Cosmopolitan hotel to the Bellagio Hotel . The Bellagio is easily the most popular hotel in Las Vegas because of all the jaw-dropping attractions! And the best part… they are FREE! At the Bellagio, don’t miss the Bellagio Conservatory , the largest chocolate fountain in the world , and of course the fountain show on Las Vegas Blvd!

BONUS : If you walk across the street from Bellagio, you can see the replica of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Hotel and the free Flamingo Habitat at the Flamingo !

For your nightcap, I would recommend exploring downtown Las Vegas! In this area of Vegas, you can find trendy bars, street murals, the famous Fremont Street , and more. Whether this is your first time to Las Vegas or 100th time, Downtown is always a blast! If you want to spend a night exploring this area, be sure to check out my detailed guide on the best bars in Downtown Las Vegas !

Day 2: Day Trip

Las Vegas is so much more than The Strip! The city is surrounded by incredible desert landscapes and famous sites. I encourage you to rent a car or sign up for a tour to see one of these amazing locations:

Option 1: Valley of Fire State Park ($10)

Valley of Fire is a vibrant, red oasis only 1 hour outside of the city. You can spend the entire day driving their scenic loop, hiking through slot canyons, and looking at ancient petroglyphs. My top five recommendations are White Domes Hike, Beehives, and the Fire Wave Hike! If 1 hour seems too far, there is another park called Red Rock Canyon (30 minutes outside the city). While it is not as impressive as Valley of Fire, it will still give you those beautiful desert landscapes!

Valley of Fire Las Vegas USA 1.JPG Las Vegas Itinerary - 4 Days in Sin City!

Option 2: Death Valley National Park ($25)

Death Valley is a National Park located only 2 hours outside of Las Vegas. This park is home to the most unique landscapes you will ever see in your lifetime! The park is extremely spread out, so you will want to plan out the sites you want to see before you go.

Death Valley Las Vegas Itinerary - 4 Days in Sin City!

Option 3: Grand Canyon ($30)

The famous Grand Canyon is only 2 hours away from Las Vegas, which you can either drive yourself or sign up for the many tours. From helicopters to charter buses, you can choose the level of luxury you want for your day trip to the Grand Canyon. Click here to browse tour options .

Grand Canyon Las Vegas Itinerary - 4 Days in Sin City!

After your exhausting day of driving and sightseeing, time for some all-you-can-eat sushi for only $25! Something that is extremely unique about Las Vegas is the abundance of all you can eat sushi places throughout town. I am not exaggerating when I say there is a DAMN good sushi restaurant every few blocks! Some of my favorite spots that are close to the Las Vegas strip are TOP Sushi , Jjanga , and Gorilla Sushi .

Day 3: Buffet + Day Club (~$100)

Start your morning out with a feast for kings at one of Las Vegas’s buffets! Even though this city is most known for its parties, you can’t neglect the amazing cuisine Las Vegas has to offer. If you splurge on anything during your time in Vegas, you should splurge on the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace… This place is INSANE.

Where else can you spend $55.00 and get bottomless king crab legs, lobster, freshly made sushi, ramen, lamb chops, acai bowls, and TONS more?

After your belly is filled with food, time for alcohol to soak it up :) One of the best things to do in Las Vegas during the summer months is going to a day club! Most of the hotels on the Strip will have day clubs, also called beach clubs, but here are my top choices:

  • Wet Republic
  • Encore Beach Club
  • Drais Rooftop

These day clubs typically open around 11am and last till around 6pm. If you are traveling with a group, it would be smart to pitch in for a table so you have somewhere to sit! These can be extremely expensive, especially on the weekends, but you will also have a great time just going on general admission! Depending on the club you choose, prices for general admission range from $20-$60 on a normal weekend and $100-$300 on a holiday weekend!

Day Club Las Vegas Itinerary - 4 Days in Sin City!

After a day full of heavy drinking, nothing will taste better than an In-N-Out burger! If you are from the west coast, you already know the hype, but if you are from the east coast or another country, you MUST get an In-N-Out burger at least once during your 4 days in Vegas!

TIP: Get the off-the-menu animal style fries, trust me on this one!

Day 4: Explore Downtown Las Vegas ($30)

Downtown Las Vegas Itinerary - 4 Days in Sin City!

The best part about Downtown Las Vegas is that even though it is a touristy and fun area, the pricing is extremely fair! Start your morning off with a trendy breakfast spot in Downtown Las Vegas: Fergusons Downtown! In this area, you will find cute boutiques + plant shops, sculptures, “instagrammable” photo walls, murals, and yummy coffee shops!

Also in this area is an extremely unique museum that is filled with old Neon Signs, called the Neon Museum ! Tickets are only $30 to enter and you get a guided tour of the signs.

If you have more time to spare before your travel home, I would recommend seeing any of these things that are also in this area:

  • Fremont Street Experience – You can zipline over this street!
  • Art District Art Murals
  • Container Park that is a shopping area made of recycled shipping containers
  • See a million dollars at Binion’s Hotel & Casino
  • Learn about Las Vegas’s Mob History at the Mob Museum
  • Symphony Park

Symphony Park Las Vegas Itinerary - 4 Days in Sin City!

Okay, that’s a wrap! There are endless things to see in Las Vegas, but this 4 day Las Vegas itinerary will give you a well-rounded and budget friendly experience! Even as a local, I still find myself doing the things on this list time and time again.

Easily the worst mistake travelers make when traveling to Las Vegas is only seeing the touristy “Strip” area . In my opinion, what makes a perfect itinerary is getting a well-rounded experience of the destination. Including food, natural scenery, tourist attractions and more, you will be getting a taste of what this amazing city has to offer! Whether you love world-famous restaurants or outstanding scenery, it has something for everyone.

I hope you found this guide useful! If you have any questions or recommendations, don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments section.

City Break: Las Vegas

By Amanda Wowk

February 15, 2024

City Guides

city break las vegas

City break (noun): a short holiday spent in a city, such as when on business travel.

Before there was bleisure travel, there was the city break —the short space of leisure time that grants you access to the cultural and culinary amenities that big cities offer. In this series from TripIt, we explore some of the world’s best cities for planning a quick getaway or extending a work trip.

Here are our tips for making the most of your city break in Las Vegas.

Where to fly in

Las Vegas metro area is served by Harry Reid International Airport  (LAS), located five miles south of downtown Las Vegas. Travelers staying on the Vegas Strip can be to and from the airport in just 10 minutes. LAS has two terminals—Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 3 (T3); each with its own parking garage, pick-up/drop-off locations, check-in area, and baggage claim.

Once on the ground at LAS, travelers can head to the Strip via the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) bus service.

Prefer to move about the city on your own? Rent a car. The airport’s rental car facility is located just a few minutes from the airport and can be accessed via complimentary shuttle. Simply follow the signs to Ground Transportation to locate the pick-up area for the rental car shuttle.

Alternatively, taxis and ride shares are also available from LAS.

Where to stay during your city break

city break las vegas

If this is your first time visiting Las Vegas, book a central hotel on the Strip to immerse yourself in everything the city has to offer. You can’t go wrong with a stay at the Bellagio , The Venetian , or Wynn Las Vegas —all iconic hotels offering the luxury amenities you’d expect in Las Vegas.

In Vegas on business? Here are our picks for where to stay:

  • If you’re attending an event at the Las Vegas Convention Center, you can’t beat the convenience of the Renaissance Las Vegas Hotel . Not only are you just a 10-minute walk to the convention center, business travelers will also appreciate the hotel’s many amenities, such as their business center, express check-out, and free Wi-Fi.
  • If you’re looking for an ultra-modern hotel, book ARIA Resort & Casino . Ahead of your stay, download the mobile app. There, you can check-in to the hotel (from anywhere!), gain access to your room with a digital key, plus book tickets to shows, restaurant reservations, and more.
  • Looking for a place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the Strip (and near to the airport)? Book the Hyatt Place Las Vegas . This hotel offers a 24-hour complimentary airport shuttle, express check-in and check-out, as well as a 24-hour business center.

How to get around

city break las vegas

As mentioned above, renting a car is your fool-proof way to traverse Las Vegas on your own—besides walking, of course. Vegas is highly walkable, and each hotel offers unique public spaces to discover as you explore on foot.

Prefer to stick to public transportation? Your options include the city’s RTC bus system; a two-hour pass costs $6.00, a 24-hour pass costs $8.00, or a 3-day pass costs $20.00. Download the rideRTC app to buy your pass and plan your journey.

Alternatively, Lyft and Uber are available in Las Vegas.

Where to eat

vegas

Have breakfast on the brain? Head to The Crack Shack . The restaurant is best known for its breakfast-for-dinner menu items. No matter when you start your day, we suggest ordering the Bae—that’s bacon, avocado, and a sunny-side egg on an English muffin.

Craving Mexican? You’ll be spoiled for choice in Las Vegas. Choose from spots like Cañonita , China Poblano , and Mama Rabbit —the latter focuses more on mezcal and tequila than dining, but offers light traditional bites as an accompaniment.

In the mood for Italian? Head to Buddy V’s Ristorante at The Venetian for Sunday gravy and cannoli (of course!); visit Allergro at the Wynn for casual Italian-American favorites like chicken parm and wood oven-baked pizzas; or RPM Italian at Caesars Palace for modern Italian dishes that are designed to be shared.

Finally, let’s talk sushi. Visitors can choose from a variety of fine dining options, including Zuma in The Cosmopolitan, Mizumi at the Wynn, and Nobu in Caesars Palace.

What to do on your city break

city break las vegas

From world-class spas to pool parties, blackjack tables to rounds of golf, you’ll surely find something to do in Las Vegas, even if you just have a few hours after work to explore. If you’re headed to Vegas during hockey season, be sure to catch the Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena. More of an NFL fan? The Raiders have taken their talents to Vegas and the new Allegiant Stadium.

There are also plenty of kid-friendly things to do in Las Vegas. Have a shark fan on your hands? The Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay allows visitors to get up close and personal with sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, piranhas, and more. Looking for a dose of adrenaline? Check out  SlotZilla Zip Line , one of the city's many zipline experiences.

Adults only? By day, head to one of Vegas’s many attractions, including one-of-a-kind museums like Madame Tussauds or the Titanic Artifact Exhibition . Want to get out of the city? Head to Seven Magic Mountains for an Insta-worthy photo opp. Or, visit Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge , located 90 miles outside Vegas, to hike its nature trails or take a dip in the reservoir.

By night, make your way to one of the city’s many shows. From Broadway to Cirque du Soleil, magic shows to comedy shows, Vegas has it all .

From its variety of casinos to dazzling entertainment scene, we'll take the gamble and bet you'll never get bored in Sin City. With so much to do in this Mojave Desert paradise, a single trip to Las Vegas may not be enough for some - but everyone should definitely visit at least once in their lifetimes.

How much you'll get to tick off your bucket list in the "Entertainment Capital of the World" largely depends on your time and budget. Here are a few reasons why you should visit Las Vegas - including a top Trip.com tip on the cheapest way to save during your visit.

Top Tip: The Cheapest Ways to Visit Las Vegas

Here are some tips for visiting Las Vegas on the cheap:

  • Travel during the off-season: Las Vegas is busiest in the summer and during holidays, so consider traveling during the off-season to save on hotel and flight costs.
  • Stay off the Strip: The hotels on the Las Vegas Boulevard (the "Strip") are often more expensive than those located a little further away. Consider staying in a cheaper hotel off the Strip and taking a taxi or public transportation to the attractions you want to visit.
  • Eat at buffets: Las Vegas is known for its buffets, which offer a variety of food options at a reasonable price. Look for buffets at hotels off the Strip, which may offer lower prices.
  • Take advantage of free attractions: Many of the major casinos in Las Vegas offer free attractions, such as fountains shows, light displays, and street performers. Take advantage of these to save on entertainment costs.
  • Visit during a promotion: Many hotels in Las Vegas offer promotions, such as discounted room rates or packages that include meals and shows. Keep an eye out for these deals to save on your trip.
  • Plan ahead: Booking your hotel, flights, and activities in advance can help you save money on your trip. Consider using a travel website that specializes in Las Vegas to find the best deals.

By following these tips, you can have a budget-friendly trip to Las Vegas while still enjoying all the city has to offer.

Top 4 Reasons to Visit Las Vegas

Let's face it, New York City isn't the only city that never sleeps. To help ease your planning process, we've compiled a list of top things to do during your Las Vegas visit.

The Fountains of Bellagio

01032120009att0zo8560.jpg

The Fountains of Bellagio is a spectacular water, music, and light show located in front of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. It is one of the city's most iconic attractions, and it is a must-see for visitors to Las Vegas.

The Fountains of Bellagio feature 1,214 jets of water that shoot water up to 460 feet into the air, synchronized to a variety of music, including classical, contemporary, and pop hits. The fountains are lit by 4,500 lights and 25 colored projectors, creating a mesmerizing display of light and water.

The Fountains of Bellagio perform several shows throughout the day and evening. The show schedules vary depending on the time of year and the day of the week, but typically shows start every 30 minutes from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and then every 15 minutes from 8 p.m. to midnight.

It's best to check the exact show schedule before you go, as it may change based on special events or holidays. You can find the show schedule on the Bellagio Hotel and Casino website or by asking the front desk at the hotel.

The Freemont Street Experience

0102h120009att0lm1BE9.jpg

There's nothing quite like a walk down Las Vegas' first paved street. Set in Downtown Las Vegas, Freemont Street serves as the city's 2nd-most popular street and is home to some of Sin City's first casinos (Golden Nugget, Four Queens, and Binion's). It's a unique and lively area that offers a variety of entertainment options, including live music, street performers, light shows, and more.

The centerpiece of the Fremont Street Experience is a massive LED canopy that covers four blocks of the street. The canopy is over 1,500 feet long and 90 feet wide, and it displays stunning light shows every night. The light shows are accompanied by a powerful sound system and feature a mix of music, images, and special effects that create a truly immersive experience.

The light shows take place every hour, starting at dusk and ending around midnight. During peak tourist season, the light shows may run more frequently or for longer hours. In addition to the light shows, there are also street performers, live music, and other entertainment options that take place throughout the day and evening.

Welcome to Las Vegas Sign

0102d120009atsu6hC360.jpg

An iconic Sin City landmark, the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" has been gracing visitors on 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South since 1959. Don't miss your Instagram opportunity with the 25-foot-tall (7.6m) roadside pole - it's certainly a Las Vegas must!

It is not only a popular tourist spot, but also a cultural symbol of the city. There are several interesting facts and special features about the sign that make it worth a visit. Here are a few of them:

  • Iconic design: The classic design of the sign, with its bold white letters against a blue background, is instantly recognizable and has become an iconic representation of Las Vegas.
  • History: The original sign was erected in 1959 and was much smaller than the current sign. It was created to promote the new housing development called "Hollywood in the Desert." Over the years, the sign has been moved and modified to become the landmark it is today.
  • Photo opportunity: The sign is a popular photo opportunity for visitors, and many people take advantage of the large open area surrounding the sign to take selfies or group photos.
  • Souvenirs: There are street vendors and gift shops nearby that offer a variety of souvenirs, including t-shirts, hats, and other items with the Las Vegas Sign logo.
  • Nighttime viewing: The sign is lit up at night, making it a popular spot for nighttime viewing. The bright lights and busy atmosphere make for a lively and exciting experience.

Thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies, this one's for you. With the variety of zip lines popping up in and on the outskirts of Las Vegas, we've narrowed down a few of the most popular ones according to location.

Fly LINQ Zipline

Get your adrenaline pumping with the FlyLINQ Zipline - Las Vegas' first zip line on the Strip. Fitted with 10 side-by-side zip lines, there's plenty of room for you and your entourage to "fly" off its 114-feet-tall (12 stories) launch tower. If you're new to zip-lining, consider opting for Rio ZipLine (formerly Voodoo ZipLine) instead. The zip ride is located on the 51st floor of Rio's Masquerade Tower and is known for their ski lift-style seats.

Freemont Street Zipline

When SlotZilla proclaims they're a "zip line unlike any other", they mean it. This exhilarating course is based in the world's largest slot machine - standing 11-stories-tall. The basic zip line - Zip-Zilla - launches from the 7th floor and lands halfway down the Fremont Street Experience pedestrian promenade. Super-Hero Zoom starts from the 11th floor and lands 5 blocks away at Golden Gate Casino & Hotel. Not for the faint-hearted, this zoom line launches you "face first" in superhero-fashion.

Your trip wouldn't be complete without spending the evening enjoying aerial views of Las Vegas from some of its best vantage points. From panoramic dining spots to viewing towers, your options are endless.

The STRAT Hotel's SkyPod

It is a tower that stands at 1,149 feet tall and offers panoramic views of the city from the observation deck on the 108th floor. Visitors can enjoy 360-degree views of the city from the observation deck, which is the highest observation deck in the US and the second-highest in the Western Hemisphere. Visitors can take in the views from both indoor and outdoor viewing areas, and can also learn about the history of Las Vegas and the surrounding area through interactive exhibits and displays.

In addition to the observation deck, the SkyPod also features a restaurant, bar, and a thrill ride called the Big Shot, which takes riders on a short, but intense trip up the side of the tower to the top.

High Roller at the LINQ Promenade

The High Roller at the LINQ Promenade is a 550-foot tall Ferris wheel located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. It is one of the tallest observation wheels in the world and offers breathtaking views of the city from its enclosed, air-conditioned cabins.

Each cabin can hold up to 40 people and provides a unique and comfortable way to take in the views of the city, day or night. Visitors can enjoy a scenic 30-minute ride, with 360-degree views of the surrounding area, including the Las Vegas Strip, the surrounding desert, and the nearby mountains.

The High Roller is a great option for families, friends, and couples looking for a unique and memorable experience in Las Vegas. In addition to the scenic ride, the wheel also features several dining and entertainment options, including a bar, lounge, and interactive exhibits.

Eiffel Tower Restaurant and Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck at Paris Las Vegas

The Eiffel Tower Restaurant is a fine dining establishment located on the 11th floor of the Eiffel Tower Experience at Paris Las Vegas. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience, with panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip and gourmet French cuisine.

The Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck, on the other hand, is an observation deck located on the 46th floor of the Eiffel Tower Experience. Visitors can take in the views of the city from the observation deck, which offers 360-degree views of the Las Vegas Strip and the surrounding desert.

The VooDoo Lounge is a nightlife destination located on the 51st floor of the Rio hotel in Las Vegas. It offers stunning views of the city, an eclectic decor, cocktails, a spacious outdoor patio, a dance floor, and a restaurant serving American, Brazilian, and Cajun cuisine.

For the ultimate bird's eye view, consider splurging on a Las Vegas Strip Helicopter Tour.

0102i120009attxnxEAB5.jpg

While "family-friendly" isn't the first descriptive term that comes to mind, Las Vegas is actually filled with a variety of activities fit for a family vacation.

Shark Reef Aquarium

Shark Reef Aquarium is a large, state-of-the-art aquarium that features a diverse collection of marine life, including sharks, rays, sea turtles, exotic fish, and more. Visitors to the Shark Reef Aquarium can observe the animals in their natural habitats, as the exhibits are designed to recreate the creatures' environments.

The aquarium also offers interactive experiences, such as a touch pool where visitors can touch the rays, and a dive program where visitors can go snorkeling or scuba diving with the sharks. It is a great destination for families, as it provides an educational and fun experience for visitors of all ages.

M&M's World/ Hershey's Chocolate World

M&M's World is a celebration of all things M&M's, the world-famous chocolate candies. Visitors can personalize their own M&M's with a custom message and choose from over 20 colors. The store also features a large wall filled with dispensers of every M&M's flavor available, making it easy for visitors to sample and purchase their favorite varieties.

In addition to the retail store, M&M's World offers a variety of interactive experiences, including a 3D movie theater, a candy-making factory tour, and a candy-themed ride.

Hershey's Chocolate World is similar and great for anyone looking for a sweet and fun shopping experience in Las Vegas.

Adventuredome - an amusement park located in Circus Circus.

Adventuredome is an indoor amusement park located at Circus Circus Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. It offers a variety of rides, including classic carnival-style rides, such as the Ferris wheel and bumper cars, as well as more adventurous and daring attractions, such as the Canyon Blaster roller coaster and the Chaos spinning ride. There are also rides specifically designed for younger visitors, including the Frog Hopper and the balloons ride.

In addition to the rides, Adventuredome also offers a variety of other attractions, such as a rock climbing wall, a laser tag arena, and a miniature golf course. The park is constantly updating and adding new attractions, ensuring that there is always something new and exciting for visitors to enjoy.

Adventuredome is open daily, with extended hours during holidays and weekends. Admission to the park is free, but there is a fee for individual rides and attractions. Visitors can purchase tickets for individual rides or an all-day pass for unlimited access to all attractions.

If you're planning to venture off The Strip, check out Lion Habitat Ranch in Henderson or drive up to any of the nearby national parks. Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Zion National Park, and the Grand Canyon are all located within a 3-hour drive away from Downtown Las Vegas.

Know Before You Go

To get to Las Vegas by flight, you will need to book a ticket to McCarran International Airport (LAS). Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (formerly McCarran International Airport) is Las Vegas' closest airport, just 3 miles from The Strip and 5 miles from Downtown Las Vegas.

You can book a flight through Trip.com or directly with an airline. It's always a good idea to compare prices and book in advance to get the best deal.

Once you arrive at McCarran International Airport, there are several options for getting to your final destination in Las Vegas, including taxi, shuttle bus, or ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft. Taxis are readily available outside of baggage claim and are a convenient option for getting to your hotel or other destination in the city. Shuttle buses and ride-sharing services are also available, but it's a good idea to arrange transportation in advance to ensure a smooth and stress-free trip.

The cheapest way of getting around Las Vegas is via public transportation.

For the most convenient way of getting around the Strip, take advantage of the Las Vegas Monorail. The 4-mile air-conditioned, elevated system runs along the Las Vegas Strip from 07:00 and stops between 00:00–03:00, daily. Single rides cost US$5 and 24-Hour passes cost US$13.45.

If you prefer transit options that'll take you between the Strip and Downtown Las Vegas, opt for the Deuce and SDX (commonly referred to as the Downtown Express) instead. Both bus services stop along most major casino hotels on the Strip and Freemont Street. Tickets cost US$6 for 2 hours and US$8 for a 24-hour pass.

The City of Las Vegas also offers complimentary public shuttle services - Las Vegas Free Tram and the Downtown Loop. While free, these services are less frequent and typically have lesser stops.

Because traffic tends to get quite heavy in Sin City, we would not recommend driving around Las Vegas if you aren't planning to get out of the city thereafter. If you're visiting Las Vegas via car, we recommend parking in your accommodation and making full use of the city's extensive public transportation system - or getting around on foot.

Las Vegas experiences its high season from January through April, October, and major U.S. holidays.

Because the "Entertainment Capital of the World" is located in the middle of the Mojave Desert, temperatures between July and August often exceed 104°F (40°C). While it doesn’t snow in Las Vegas, winter months tend to be short - from December to February, with cool temperatures that average between 57°F (13°C) and 39°F (4°C).

Top Tip: Be sure to wear comfortable shoes during your visit. It takes approx. 15-20 minutes to walk between casino hotels on the Las Vegas Strip.

Share All sharing options for: The Essential Buffets of Las Vegas

Culinary trailblazers back in the 1940s found a way to keep gamblers inside the resorts with cheap food, and lots of it. El Rancho Vegas, the Strip’s first resort, came up with the chuck wagon, the earliest version of the modern-day buffet to turn up in Las Vegas. For decades the buffets were loss leaders, with the goal of getting people in the door, to part them with their money on the casino floor.

It’s only in recent years that buffets started to be good — with updated furnishings, thoughtful menus, carving stations, and super fresh seafood. Leading up to 2020, Las Vegas had more than 70 buffets inside casinos, spanning from Aliante to Henderson, Summerlin to the Strip, serving gourmet fare at various stations. Nowadays, options are more limited, though these buffets remain favorites among tourists.

Market Place Buffet

The 12,000-square-foot Market Place Buffet at Rampart Casino has a weekly schedule that includes a $31.99 prime rib dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the popular Champagne brunch is $32.99, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. And there’s a Hawaiian-themed $31.99 Aloha Night Dinner on Saturdays from 4 to 8 p.m. All buffets are discounted for Rampart Plus, Summerlin, Premier, and Elite Card holders.

Las Vegas - Stedentrip Las Vegas - Doets Reizen

Stedentrip Las Vegas

  • Zelf jouw reisduur samenstellen
  • Thema Hotels
  • Compleet pakket

Themahotels in Las Vegas

Shoppen in Las Vegas

Casino's in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is the place to be voor wie van gokken houdt.

Restaurants in Las Vegas

Unieke shows in Las Vegas

Trouwen in Las Vegas

Reis was super zoals verwacht!

Best time to go on a road trip from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a destination that promises world-class entertainment year-round, and your journey there can be equally exciting depending on when you travel.

Head along the Zion National Park Route in the spring and although you can expect mild weather, you may see heavy rain in parts. If the weather remains nice, though make sure to visit the Clark County Fair and Rodeo held each April.

In spring, the alternative Arches National Park Route is also a great time to visit, with moderate temperatures perfect for off-roading, hiking, and mountain biking in places such as Moab. You can expect the temperatures to range between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Delay the trip until summer and you can expect more intense heat, often soaring above 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you're a fan of cooler temperatures, then wait until the fall, when you can enjoy beautiful fall landscapes as you make your journey and mild temperatures. You can also take advantage of festivals such as the Zion Canyon Music Festival in September and October.

Or a winter trip might suit you, but be prepared for icy trails and potential road closures. The Jubilee of Trees in November or The Bluff International Balloon Festival in January can also be enjoyed if you travel during this season.

When you reach Las Vegas, the weather will be the last thing on your mind (if you are curious though, the winter temperatures range between 50-75 degrees here), however, there are extra events throughout the year to add to your stay.

In April, the city hosts the Las Vegas Helldorado Days, an event filled with vibrant parades and rodeo performances, while the Life is Beautiful Festival in September promises a grand celebration of music, art, and food.

Best Las Vegas to Salt Lake City Drive Stops

Las vegas , nevada.

You’ll begin your trip in Las Vegas, Nevada, the infamous city unlike any other in the world. Definitely plan on spending a day or two exploring Vegas.

There is so much to do in this completely unique city, you’ll easily find many exciting things to experience during your stay. See an incredible live show, do some world-class shopping, relax at beautiful swimming pools, take a day trip to Hoover Dam or check out the vibrant nightlife in the clubs or casinos.

Regardless of where you choose to stay in Vegas, make sure you spend some time exploring the strip and walking through some of the hotels and casinos-the extravagant architecture and décor you’ll see in some of these building is truly mind-boggling!

After you’ve had your fair share of Vegas, make sure you get a good night of sleep before embarking on the drive from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City.

Valley of Fire State Park , Nevada

The first stop from Vegas that is definitely worth checking out is Valley of Fire State Park, just about an hour and a half down the I-15 North and the Valley Of Fire Highway, respectively.

This state park is home to a stunning collection of red rock formations and many relatively easy hikes that are well suited to a wide range of fitness levels.

Spend a few hours exploring the Valley of Fire, starting with a drive down the main road, Mouse’s Tank Road, that will take you past many of the main rock formations.

Stop at some of the popular formations along the road to take a few photos and explore, or embark on one of the short hikes in the park, such as the popular Rainbow Vista or White Domes Hike, both of which are about a mile roundtrip and provide incredible views of the impressive red rock formations that are the namesake of this popular park.

The Valley of Fire Arch - a great first stop on the Las Vegas to Salt Lake City drive

Brigham Young Winter Ho me, Utah

From Valley of Fire, get right back on the I-15 North and drive for about an hour and forty-five minutes until you reach the town of St. George, Utah, right by the Arizona /Utah border.

A notable stop in this town, particularly since our final destination is Salt Lake City, is the Brigham Young Winter Home, a historic residence and current museum.

Brigham Young was a Mormon religious leader, as well as an important figure in the development of Utah as a state, as he not only founded Salt Lake City but also served as the state’s first governor.

Regardless of one’s religious beliefs, Young’s Winter Home in St. George is the perfect first stop in Utah, as this museum will provide some context on the history of the state and the influence of religion on the development of Salt Lake City. In addition, the house is beautiful, and admission is free!

Zion National Park , Utah

The next stop on this Las Vegas to Salt Lake City drive is an absolute must-see. Zion, Utah’s first National Park, is home to an absolutely stunning collection of red rock cliffs, divided by the Virgin River.

The landscape of Zion National Park is nothing short of spectacular- a visit to this park will make you feel as if you’ve landed on a completely different planet!

From the Springdale Visitor Center, take a shuttle into the park. Driving within the park is restricted, but the shuttles run frequently in and out of the park, so you’ll never have to wait around too long. Within the park there are many different trails and hikes of varying difficulty, so there will be something for everyone to enjoy at this park!

I would highly recommend the Riverside Walk for those with small children or anyone who would prefer a flat, easy walk. This trail is about 2 miles long and begins at the last shuttle stop in the park. The path follows the winding river and provides beautiful views of the towering canyon, making it the perfect option if you just want to stop in Zion for a few hours and take in the natural beauty of the area.

On the other end of the spectrum, true thrill-seekers can embark on the famous Angels Landing hike, a strenuous trek with many steep drop-offs and narrow ledges.

This hike is around 5.5 miles round trip with plenty of elevation gain- expect a lot of switchbacks, climbing and even scrambling on all fours when you get to the narrow, rocky top section. The view from the top of Angel’s Landing is spectacular, but it can be very scary if you aren’t an experienced hiker or climber.

Of course, there are a wide variety of hike options that lie somewhere between the easy Riverside stroll and the strenuous Angel’s Landing, so make sure to check out the National Park Service website to find the hike best suited for you! After spending a day in Zion , grab a bite to eat back in Springdale where the shuttle will drop you back off, and hit the road!

Zion National Park is the last stop on the Denver to Las Vegas drive

Parowan Gap , Utah

From Zion, get back on the I-15 for about an hour and a half before reaching the Parowan Gap Petroglyph site, a series of well-preserved Native American rock carvings on the rock face of a pass that connects the Parowan Valley to the Red Hills.

The petroglyphs were discovered by pioneers in 1849 who were exploring the area for settlements, and came across the carvings at the Gap, likely made by ancient Fremont people and their ancestors as they travelled through the area.

Today, you can see the petroglyphs for yourself and try to decipher some of them. Once you get near the gap, you’ll find a parking lot and a marked path that will take you beside the rock face to check out some of the petroglyphs.

In addition to the ancient carvings, you can also check out some preserved dinosaur tracks just about a mile East from the Gap. If you’re a history buff, a quick stop at the Parowan Gap is definitely worth checking out!

Parowan Gap

Fillmore Territorial Statehouse Museum , Utah

After stopping to check out the petroglyphs at Parowan Gap, head back on the I-15 North for about an hour and a half until you reach Fillmore, Utah, the original capital city from 1851-1856. Fillmore itself is relatively small, but a great place to stop and check out the Territorial Statehouse Museum.

The statehouse is the oldest governmental building in all of Utah. The museum is worth checking out in order to learn more about the Utah territory in the earliest stages of its development, and it is located in a peaceful park that is the perfect place to stop and stretch your legs after being in the car for a while.

Nebo Loop , Utah

The next stop worth making is a detour off the 1-15, just about an hour from Fillmore. The Nebo Loop Scenic Byway is a stunning 38-mile road that takes you through the Uinta National Forest and around Mount Nebo, the tallest mountain in the Wasatch Mountain Range.

A drive on this bypass is truly spectacular- the views as you climb higher and higher are stunning, and there are plenty of opportunities to see native wildlife on this remote road.

Make sure you have your camera handy and be prepared to pull over to stop and take photos at some of the many lookouts along the road.

Just note, the bypass is closed in the winter, so this stop will only be possible if you’re travelling in the warmer months.

Driving through Utah

Thanksgiving Point , Utah

From Nebo Loop, head back on the I-15 North for an hour before reaching Thanksgiving Point, located in Lehi, Utah, just past Utah Lake.

Thanksgiving Point is a non-profit complex that includes various museums, large sprawling gardens, and a working farm, and it is the perfect place to stop for a few hours and explore, particularly if you are travelling with children.

Make sure you check out The Museum of Natural Curiosity, made up of more than 400 interactive experiences that allow visitors to engage with exhibits in a hands-on and exciting way. After you check out the museums, head to the Butterfly Biosphere, the 40,000 square foot home to thousands of species of butterflies and other interesting insects.

End your visit at Thanksgiving Point by strolling through the Ashton Gardens, a truly stunning collection of various gardens within a garden, including a Rose Garden, an Italian Garden, even a Secret Garden.

A visit to Thanksgiving Point is a one-of-a-kind experience and definitely worth a stop on the way to Salt Lake City

Sundance Mountain Resort, Utah

And the final stop on the drive from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City is Sundance Mountain Resort, located half an hour east of Thanksgiving Point.

This beautiful resort is worth checking out, particularly if you are a fan of winter sports — the skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sledding at Sundance are world-class and will make for a great stop for a day before heading into Salt Lake City.

However, if you visit in the summer, or simply aren’t a fan of winter sports, there is still so much else to do at Sundance.

The area is surrounded by great hiking and biking trails and is also home to Utah’s longest zipline. After a day on the mountain, relax at one of the highly-rated restaurants on the resort, check out the spa, or enjoy some shopping at the base of the mountain.

Salt Lake City , Utah

From Sundance, get back on the I-15 North for one more hour before reaching our final destination, Salt Lake City! Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah, and you’ll find there are so many options of things to do here.

If you are interested in history and the impact of religion on Utah, check out some of the important Mormon sites, including Temple Square, the Mormon Temple, and the Mormon Tabernacle to learn more about the development of the religion that is based in the state.

Additionally, you can check out the impressive Hogle Zoo, the Utah Museum of Fine Art, Clarke Planetarium, or the sprawling Liberty Park, a natural oasis in the heart of the city.

Regardless of how you choose to spend your time, you’ll find Salt Lake City to be a completely unique and interesting place to spend a few days.

Leave Las Vegas to See the Most Beautiful Places in Nevada

Life Magazine famously called the stretch of U.S. Route 50 between Fallon and Ely the "loneliest road in America" more than 30 years ago. Little has changed since then, which is good news if you're craving an off-the-grid road trip adventure. The highway slows down when it hits Austin, turning into Main Street for this old Pony Express hub with less than 200 people and four churches–a notable ratio for sure. St. George's Episcopal Church, built in 1878, is an especially striking example of Gothic-Revival-style architecture. Overall, the tiny Old West town has 11 sites on the National Register of Historic Places, including the three-story ruins of Stokes Castle and an old hotel now known as the International Cafe & Bar . For added weirdness, spend the night at Paradise Ranch Castle , a bizarre bed and breakfast built to look like an Old Word fortress with suits of armor and a "dungeon" that doubles as a game room and lounge. It overlooks the picturesque Reese River Valley for an extra dose of peace and serenity.

Bonsai Rock

The eastern edge of Lake Tahoe is a quick drive from the dull government dealings of Carson City, and one of its best kept secrets is the quiet beauty of Bonsai Rock, just south of Sand Harbor. A photographer's dream, it creeps out of the water, topped by just four petite trees that will never grow taller due to their barren location. The best vantage point is about a five-minute walk from the main road. Take your time, relax, and enjoy the journey. Don’t forget your camera.

Cathedral Gorge State Park

Just off State Route 93, a visit to Cathedral Gorge State Park is the perfect way to break up a road trip between Las Vegas and Ely. It's named after the towering spires and jagged rock formations created by volcanic activity over millions of years. The park is also one of the few places you'll see slot canyons in Nevada. Cathedral Gorge hosted plays and other entertainment against its majestic backdrop in the 1920s when road trips suddenly spiked in popularity due to America's growing highway systems. An abandoned stone water tower is a popular photo spot, providing a dramatic contrast to the surrounding natural beauty. If you're short on time, drive around to the north entrance, which provides immediate access to the highest elevation and best views.

Fly Geyser was a drilling site in the 1960s, but some kind of mishap caused minerals to dissolve and accumulate into a spectacle of a structure you could say is both natural and man-made. A form of algae in the hot springs gives the landmark a colorful red and green appearance, making it an enticing stop for hikers and photographers. However, not only is the northwest location remote, it's on Fly Ranch, which is private property. Avoid trespassing and sign up for one of the official ticketed Saturday nature walks , which resume for a new season on April 6.

Grapevine Canyon

Laughlin is about an hour-and-a-half drive from Las Vegas , tucked away in its own corner of southeast Nevada. If the stress of the slot machines becomes too much, look for Christmas Tree Pass, an old gravel road a few miles outside of town. It leads to Grapevine Canyon, which has a concentrated amount of petroglyphs by its entrance. Some like to take a few photos and drive away. Others continue on hiking trails, where you can spot an active spring if you listen for the flow of water. On a good day, you may even spot a bighorn sheep. A dry river bed with steep edges lies between the parking area and the canyon. Whether you walk along the side or across the bottom itself, you'll have no choice but to imagine what the rushing waters were like hundreds of years ago.

Great Basin National Park

As far as national parks go, this is one of the least visited, making it a dream come true for those eager to experience nature without the nuisance of other tourists. Hikers swear by the Alpine Lakes Loop Trail , which passes two different alpine lakes and offers killer views of Wheeler Peak, the second-tallest mountain in Nevada. Yet the park is perhaps best enjoyed after dark. The stargazing is next level, especially with a new astronomy amphitheater now in place. It's equipped with red lights that actually enhance the viewing experience. If that's not enough darkness, venture deep inside the Lehman Caves, where stalactites and other sinister rock formations await. A choice of four tours are available with a reservation .

Incline Village

Visit the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe and spend a few nights in the north end at Incline Village, which is more upscale and less tourist-driven than Stateline in the hotel-dominated south end. It's a serene environment to soak in the bright blue alpine waters and miles of pine trees. Book a night at the Hyatt Regency and have access to a private beach. You can also overlook the lake while munching on steaks at the Lone Eagle Grille . Bicycling is the preferred mode of transportation here (with rentals easily available), whether you want to trek the paved Tahoe East Shore Trail to Sand Harbor State Park or zip down a stretch of Lakeshore Boulevard known as Billionaire's Row, due to the high-priced real estate. It's a quick way to see why the locals call the town "Income Village." The views are even better from ski resorts like Diamond Peak and Mt. Rose.

The water levels may be dwindling due to drought, but Lake Mead remains a beautiful spot for boating, kayaking, and taking a swim in the middle of the desert. The 250-square-mile reservoir was created by the Hoover Dam back in 1935 and tours of the modern marvel are a must when visiting Boulder City . You can also take a cruise for an up-close look at the dam . Remnants of the old Hoover Dam Railroad system have been repurposed as the Historic Railroad Trail , with walking paths stretching through five mountain-carved tunnels where tracks once stood. Park at either the Lake Mead Visitors Center or Hoover Dam Lodge to access the trail and get in some exercise while soaking in the sweeping views of Lake Mead. A bike tour through the tunnels is highly recommended.

Massacre Rim

Much like a Spinal Tap album cover, Massacre Rim is an experience best described as “ none more black .” More than an hour north of Reno, it's one of the darkest and most remote locations on Earth—and one of just a few dark sky sanctuaries certified by the International Dark Sky Association . That means it's virtually free of light pollution. On a clear night without moonlight, not only is the Milky Way visible to the naked eye, but also the neighboring Andromeda galaxy. The stars are so bright, they can even cast shadows on Earth. Massacre Rim is about 80,000 acres in size and 100 miles north of Gerlach (dubbed the darkest town in America ). This isn't a place you just plug into the GPS and go check out on a whim. It requires lots of planning—and an off-road vehicle if you dare to leave the security of desolate Route 8A.

Mt. Charleston

It's national news when it snows in Las Vegas but really, it's not that big of a deal. Mt. Charleston is just a quick drive northwest of Sin City and the mountain peak is covered with snow during much of the year. Lee Canyon has skiing, snowboarding, and tubing in the winter months, and hiking, archery, and disc golf during the summer months with a downhill biking trail. No matter when you visit, the high elevation and miles of pine trees are a welcome change of pace from the brittle desert air in the Las Vegas Valley below. The area lost the beloved Mt. Charleston Lodge in a 2021 fire, but newly released renderings of its replacement look promising.

Red Rock Canyon

Clark County

Red Rock Canyon is usually the place Las Vegans go first when they want to escape city life. Located just west of Summerlin, the protected National Conservation Area is known for its colorful sandstone peaks and canyons, drawing hikers, rock climbers, and those who just want to enjoy the 13-mile scenic loop from the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle. More ambitious visitors will prefer to book a reservation for the official campground , which stays busy between fall and spring. The sprawling Cottonwood Valley Trail System is popular with bikers who can have the mountains of Red Rock Canyon as their backdrop while enjoying the fresh air and exercise.

Rhyolite Ghost Town

Back in the early 20th century, Rhyolite was a booming mining destination. The economy was so good, the town even had its own stock exchange, not to mention a thriving red light district. But everything changed when the market tanked in 1907. Within five years, the population dwindled and the electricity was shut off. More than a century later, you can still find remnants of the old town near the edge of Death Valley, including ruins of a bank, jail, and train depot. It's also near the Goldwell Open Air Museum , an eclectic outdoor collection of art pieces.

Ruby Mountains

The Ruby Mountains are among the best reasons to visit Northeast Nevada—and where the state suddenly gets a lot more green. Hikers can't get enough of the "Rubies," especially Lamoille Canyon, where streams, lakes, and wooden bridges add charm and character to the trees and lush vegetation. Known as the "Alps of Nevada," the mountains provide a wide variety of slopes and snow-covered terrain throughout winter. And why worry about a chair lift when you can have a helicopter drop you off at the top? A big part of the appeal is the solitude, although you're not far from the civilization of Elko (and its Basque dining scene ). Drivers can get a taste of what the area is all about with a detour through the Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway.

Valley of Fire State Park

Mojave Desert

Dedicated in 1935, Valley of Fire is Nevada’s oldest and largest state park. The name comes from the bright-red sand dunes that appear to be on fire when hit by the sun at just the right angle, but the real beauty is in the Aztec sandstone formations that twist and bend into loops, arches, and cubby hole-like caves. Pull over at Rainbow Vista for the most Mars-like terrain. About 3,000 years ago, Native Americans left behind petroglyphs that can still be seen today. The park is just an hour outside of Vegas and makes for a great scenic road trip .

Virginia City

Storey County

There's rugged charm—and yes, beauty—in the Old West spirit that helped shape Nevada. The best example is Virginia City, an old mining hub in the mountains southeast of Reno that's done an impressive job preserving its Victorian architecture from the late 1800s. Walk the boardwalks that frame C Street and explore saloons, shops, and museums that feel like a trip back in time. Despite the touristy appeal, Virginia City is all authentic and original. No Disney-esque recreations here. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad travels from the heart of Virginia City to Gold Hill for an instant history lesson on how mining turned Nevada into a hot destination more than a hundred years ago.

Leave Las Vegas to See the Most Beautiful Places in Nevada

I spent 2 nights at the Fontainebleau, the hottest new hotel in Las Vegas, and was blown away by its luxury food court

  • The Fontainebleau Las Vegas hotel is ushering in a new era of luxury in Sin City.
  • It even offers a luxury food court with eight different restaurants.
  • I tried nearly all of them and was blown away by the elevated bagels, pizza, and sandwiches.

Insider Today

From the 55,000-square-foot spa to the $5,000-a-night VIP suites , luxury is everywhere at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas — even the food court.

I recently spent two nights at the hottest new hotel in Sin City and was blown away by the Fontainebleau's elevated spin on quick and casual dining.

From sushi by Michelin-starred chefs to one of the best pizzas I've ever had, here's everything I ate.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas is the buzziest new resort in Sin City.

city trip las vegas

Fontainebleau Las Vegas was packed with A-list celebrities when I stayed at the hotel during Super Bowl weekend , attracting everyone from Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Leonardo DiCaprio and Lady Gaga.

The 67-story hotel has 3,644 rooms, with rates starting at $300 a night, unless you're staying in one of the exclusive Fleur de Lis suites. There's also a 150,000-square-foot casino, a 14-000-square-foot gym, and LIV, the brand-new nightclub.

And we haven't even gotten to the food.

The hotel has 36 restaurants, many of which offer extravagant dishes.

city trip las vegas

Fontainebleau Las Vegas features a wide variety of dining options, paying homage to the hotel's Miami roots by bringing in hot spots like Papi Steak, KYU, and Komodo. It's also smartly nabbed the second location for super buzzy names like Mother Wolf and Contramar.

You can get a $1,000 55-ounce Wagyu tomahawk steak, a $400-per-person omakase experience, or a $265 golden chicken covered in black truffles and foie gras. But fine dining isn't the only kind that Fontainebleau offers.

Promenade is the Fontainebleau's luxury food court.

city trip las vegas

Described on the Fontainebleau's website as a "vibrant gourmet adventure," Promenade offers six different restaurants. There's everything from pizza and bagels to sandwiches and tacos, plus Michelin-starred sushi and celebrity-chef burgers.

I visited Promenade three times with my boyfriend during our Fontainebleau stay, and we tried nearly every restaurant. We even bumped into DJ John Summit, who has a residency at LIV and told us the Promenade is his favorite place to eat at the resort.

Now I understand why.

Since we'd had an early flight, we started our luxury food court experience with some gourmet bagels.

Promenade is home to El Bagel , a popular Miami-based spot specializing in hand-rolled bagels.

The menu features five different egg sandwiches, including a classic bacon, egg, and cheese, and options with smoked pastrami or a maple sausage patty. They range in price from $10 to $15.

There are also nine different sandwiches, including the Lox Supreme, King Guava — which features a fried egg with guava marmalade — and a BLT with bacon, tomato paste, and pickled mustard seeds. Prices range from $6 to $18, but there's also the $130 "Baller Bagel" — with an ounce of Osetra caviar — if you're feeling really fancy.

First up was the Pastrami Classico on a sesame bagel.

The $18 Pastrami Classico is made with 18-hour smoked pastrami, swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Thousand Island dressing.

I've been on the hunt for a phenomenal pastrami bagel ever since I tried the Reubenstein sandwich at Yeastie Boys (if you live in LA, do yourself a favor and get this immediately). El Bagel's Pastrami Classico comes close to the Reubenstein's greatness with its deliciously tender and smoky pastrami, which was nicely balanced by the fluffy sesame bagel, bright coleslaw, and tangy Thousand Island dressing.

This tasted like a luxury bagel — no caviar required.

Next up was the Las Tardes, which we ordered on an everything bagel.

The $14 Las Tardes bagel features thin-sliced turkey, plain cream cheese, tomato jam, and sprouts.

The everything bagel was perfectly seasoned, with a fantastic salty crunch that paired well with the delicious turkey and tomato jam. But there was a bit too much cream cheese, which made for some cloying bites combined with the turkey. I think the sandwich would've worked better with scallion cream cheese instead, which could add some more depth to the overall flavor.

But I was impressed by El Bagel overall. It delivers a fun and elevated twist on the breakfast classic, and I plan to visit again next time I'm in Miami or Vegas.

For lunch, we decided to try Miami Slice.

city trip las vegas

Promenade at the Fontainebleau is the second location for Miami Slice , which serves artisan NY-style slices in downtown Miami.

The menu features five flavors — Margherita De La Casa, Pepperoni Proper, La Salsera, Leeks on Bacon, and Mushroom Truffle — ranging in price from $8 to $10 a slice. There are also extras on offer, including hot honey, stracciatella, and a three-cheese dip.

It ended up being one of the best places we ate at during our trip.

city trip las vegas

Our dinners in Sin City included gourmet steak, Peking duck, and golden chicken, but the place we still talk about most was Miami Slice. And that's not to say all of the above wasn't extremely delicious — we just couldn't get enough of this pizza. Nothing fills the heart faster than a sublime slice.

The $9 Pepperoni Proper — which features red sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, and hot honey — had a crispy, flaky crust that was light as air and tasted incredible. It also had the perfect ratio of sauce to cheese, ensuring the mozzarella didn't overpower the luscious red sauce.

It's hard to beat the power-couple combo of sweet and spicy hot honey with salty pepperoni, but the $9 La Salsera slice was even better. The slice — which features a trio of red sauce, vodka sauce, and pesto — blew me away with its dance of flavors.

"The vodka with pesto is a dream," I wrote in my notes after a few bites. "Everything is perfect about it."

My boyfriend and I agreed it was one of the best slices of pizza we've had — period.

When we needed a quick dinner, we stopped by Bar Ito.

city trip las vegas

Bar Ito is a sister concept to ITO , the NYC omakase restaurant by Michelin-starred chefs Kevin Kim and Masa Ito. There's also a second new ITO location in Poodle Room, the Fontainebleau Las Vegas' exclusive members-only club on the top floor of the resort.

While a night at ITO's 12-seat omakase counter costs $400 a person, Bar Ito offers handrolls and sashimi at a much cheaper price tag. Bowls range from $10 to $22, with options including salmon, eggplant, and wagyu. There are also eight different temaki flavors — including lobster, spicy scallop, hamachi, and roast shiitake — with the option to purchase either three handrolls for $33 or five for $50.

We got the three-for-$33 deal, opting for spicy tuna, salmon, and toro. The rolls — which came packaged in a cute box with wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce — were kept simple. The spicy tuna was paired with cucumber, the salmon with avocado, and the toro with scallions. It allowed the high-quality fish in each temaki to shine and was the perfect fresh dinner we were craving after a day at Gronk Beach, Rob Gronkowski's annual Super Bowl pool party . The $8 miso mushroom soup is also a must.

Our last meal at Promenade was sandwiches from Nona.

city trip las vegas

Nona had caught my eye when we first walked through Promenade, so I made sure to grab us some sandwiches before our trip back to LA.

The menu features seven sandwiches ranging in price from $15 to $18, with flavors including spicy chicken, hot salami, tri-tip dip, turkey, meatball, Italian, and vegetarian.

Our massive sandwiches were packed to the brim with fresh ingredients.

city trip las vegas

We first tried The Bird, a $16 sandwich with roasted turkey, mayonnaise, brie, bacon, guacamole, pickled red onions, and escarole, all on a toasted roll.

The sandwich was bursting with so much delicious and unexpected flavor. Turkey and brie is a classic pair, but the pickled red onions and guacamole infused them with a creamy and tangy brightness. I loved the crispy bite of the bacon and the excellent crust on the fluffy roll. We ate this sandwich on a very grim bus ride back to LA after deciding to stay an extra night in Vegas for Super Bowl Sunday, and it's truly the only thing that kept us sane.

After getting home at 1 a.m., we dug into The Italian. The $18 sandwich, also on a toasted roll, features Italian ham, Calabrese salami, baby Swiss, roasted peppers, olive relish, Parmigiano Reggiano, arugula, and basil.

I thought it'd be impossible to beat The Bird, yet The Italian does so easily. It stays true to its name with an intoxicating combination of high-quality meats and cheeses, while the mixture of roasted peppers, arugula, and basil peppered each bite with a sweet and herby freshness. If The Bird kept us sane, The Italian brought us back to life.

Who knew a food court could be so powerful?
