'New Girl' Fans Flip After Zooey Deschanel Gives "House Tour" on Instagram
It's not what you're thinking.
"The house tour you've all been waiting for..." Deschanel jokingly captioned her post.
Zooey gave us the full tour of the playhouse including a trip down two slides, even showing us her the make-believe office and guest house. Even though this isn't what fans have been asking for, they were still thoroughly amused by Deschanel's post. All of the amateur comedians ran to the comments to participate in the bit:
- "It's giving New Girl virgins episode vibes"
- "This episode of property brothers is lit"
- "When Nick finally builds the kids' playhouse."
- "What's the appraisal on this bad boy?"
Petition for an HGTV special for the Scott/Deschanel house tour! Zooey and Jonathan will celebrated their 4th anniversary on August 4, 2023, after meeting in 2019 on the set of Carpool Karaoke, here's to hoping there is an engagement in store for the happy couple this year!

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.
Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other
Moscow is Russiaâs largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europeâs largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system â each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russiaâs Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.
Moscow Tours centering on Russian History
Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations â capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms â he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russiaâs largest and most vibrant city.
Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers
What is the best time to visit moscow.
Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide
How many days are enough in Moscow?
If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.
Do they speak English in Moscow?
As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.
Is it safe to travel to Moscow?
It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. 'The Golden Girls' house isn't actually in Miami (and other facts you should know)
Grab your cheesecake and gather round for a fun trip down memory lane.
âThe Golden Girlsâ premiered on NBC almost 34 years ago, and it featured one of the most beloved TV homes, with its rattan furniture and glorious lanai.
The plot of the show revolves around the Miami house that widowed Blanche (Rue McClanahan) shares with roommates Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Rose ( Betty White ) and Sophia (Estelle Getty). Over the seriesâ seven seasons, the ladies enjoyed lots of laughs, witty banter and sweet times together right there in that four-bedroom abode.
Here are five pieces of trivia about "The Golden Girls" home that you might not have realized.
1. The house seen in the show wasnât actually located in Miami.
The homeâs exterior that you see in the first season was actually shot at a real house located in Los Angeles at 245 N. Saltair Avenue (the address on the show was 6151 Richmond Street in Miami, which doesnât exist in real life). Itâs a privately owned home, so fans canât go inside. But according to Zillow , the 1955 house has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and measures 2,901 square feet. The website estimates itâs worth about $3.5 million today.
2. A replica of the houseâs facade was built on Disneyâs âResidential Street.â
For the later seasons, the studio used a replica of the house at Disneyâs Hollywood Studios near Orlando, Florida. Fans could drive by on the Studio Backlot Tour and see the recognizable home , among others, like those from âErnest Saves Christmas,â âSplash Tooâ and âEmpty Nest.â The street and houses were torn down in 2003 to make room for another park feature.
3. There werenât enough kitchen chairs for all of the ladies.
Yes, there were four roommates but only three chairs at the kitchen table. While many viewers probably didnât even realize it while watching, once you know it, you probably wonât be able to unsee it. Itâs not that they wanted to exclude anyone, though â the missing chair was simply due to the limitations of the set. Three chairs kept it less crowded and avoided having one person with their back toward the camera.
4. The kitchen set was also used in another TV show.
Viewers of the 1982-1983 sitcom âIt Takes Twoâ may have thought the âGolden Girlsâ kitchen looked familiar â and theyâd be right, since it was used in both series.
@jimcolucci , Golden Girls kitchen had also been used on It Takes Two w/Helen Hunt & Patty Duke. Is that old news? pic.twitter.com/UEjnqkVhc3 â JTM (@trashytravels) May 23, 2014
5. The house layout sometimes confused viewers.
Eagle-eyed fans of the show noticed that sometimes the layout would change depending on the plot. In 2016, an artist mapped out his vision of the house's floor plan and shared it with TODAY Home .

A Fun Place to Get Your House Fix
“The Golden Girls” House Is For Sale: See Inside!
The iconic one-story house that appeared in the classic sitcom “The Golden Girls” is on the market for the first time. On the show, this is where Blanche Devereaux lived with her friends Rose, Dorothy, and Sophia in Miami, Florida. But the real house is located in Brentwood, California.
Various shots of the exterior appeared in the opening credits and before scene changes. The rooms we saw on TV were sets, but some of the spaces seem to have been inspired by the real house, as you’ll see in the photos below.
The interiors had never been seen before because this is the first time the “Golden Girls” house has been on the market since it was built in the 1950s.
Listing agent Rachelle Rosten says, “After 65 years, itâs being sold by the estate of its original owners — and its unexpected Mid-Century Japanese/Hawaiian beauty has been revealed for the first time. The couple who built the home in 1955 were inspired by the Honolulu residence of the husbandâs father, created by a famed Hawaiian Mid-Century Modern architect.”
Grab yourself a slice of cheesecake like a Golden Girl would, and let’s take a look at both the sets from the 1980s and the real house today!
“The Golden Girls” House
“The Golden Girls” ran from 1985-1992.
The sitcom followed the funny adventures of Southern belle Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan) and the friends who lived with her in Miami: Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), her mother Sophia (Estelle Getty), and Rose Nylund (Betty White).
The series began with a wedding in the first episode — Blanche’s, which was thwarted. And then the final episode wrapped things up with another wedding — this time Dorothy’s, who bid a bittersweet goodbye to her friends when she moved out.
The House in the Opening Credits of “The Golden Girls:”
In later seasons the exterior was recreated at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
As a teenager I got to see the replica of the “Golden Girls” house on a backlot tour. It had never occurred to me before that you could see a house from TV in real life! I just wish my younger self had been forward-thinking enough to snap a photo that I could’ve used in this post, ha.
It’s no longer there, however. It was demolished in 2003. But you can see a photo of the replica on The Mickey Blog .
The Real “Golden Girls” House Today:
An article in Variety reports:
The structureâs unique architecture is best described as a tasteful blend of Japanese and Hawaiian plantation styles, and it was constructed in 1955 by SoCal Edison attorney David Noble Barry III and his wife Margaret Carr Barry, after they were inspired by the midcentury modern home that Davidâs father owned in Hawaii.
The couple lived in the L.A. digs for over 60 years, until their respective deaths in 2017 and 2019; the property is now being sold through a trust.
The Barrys agreed to have their house featured on the show for a small fee and loved having their famous home be seen on a national platform, though they were reportedly not sitcom fans and didnât watch the show.
The Vaulted Living Room
Until recently most of the floors had been covered with wall-to-wall carpeting.
Thankfully that’s all gone, revealing the original hardwood flooring..
The listing says, “A distinctive Japanese engawa, or perimeter aisle, borders the home. It widens into a veranda in front of the living room, where the skylit beamed ceiling soars out to cover it.”
The Living Room Set on TV:
The “Golden Girls” living room also had vaulted, beamed ceilings, skylights,
And glass doors that opened to a covered porch and large back patio..
However, the decorating was much more “1980s vacation home in Miami” than in the real house.
Many of the descriptions of the show I’ve come across refer to the women as “retirees.” But Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche all still had jobs on the show.
Rue McClanahan was only 51 when it premiered, and the others were in their early ’60s, which seems a lot younger to me now than it did when “The Golden Girls” was airing!
The Dining Room
According to the listing:
Inspired by the beauty of Mid-Century Japanese/Hawaiian architecture, award-winning Hawaiian architects Johnson and Perkins were commissioned to design this 4-bedroom dream home, custom built in 1955.
Floor to ceiling glass, clerestory windows and ultra-high beamed ceilings create expansive volume and visual transparency perfectly connecting indoors and out.
Natural colors and textures create a tranquil atmosphere and sliding shoji screens and built-in cabinetry subtly define space.
Pristine original oak floors and the original turquoise, avocado and yellow kitchen are among the beautifully preserved period details.
The Retro Green and Turquoise Kitchen
The original 1950s kitchen was a pleasant surprise.
I wish the show had taken a cue from it and gone with fun colors like these..
The listing says, “Among the other beautifully preserved period details is the original tricolored kitchen with turquoise Formica, turquoise and avocado cabinets and yellow accents.”
The Kitchen Set on “Golden Girls”
According to Mental Floss , the kitchen set had been used on another show first.
In 1982 it appeared in a sitcom called “ It Takes Two ” starring Richard Crenna and Patty Duke Astin as a dual-career couple raising their teenagers, who were played by Helen Hunt and Anthony Edwards.
I found an old clip from “It Takes Two,” and here’s how the kitchen looked on that show:
It had the same swinging door, wood cabinets, wallpaper, yellow valance, round table,
Butcher’s block and baker’s rack when “the golden girls” premiered in 1985:.
Later in its run, the kitchen underwent a few changes — most notably the new wallpaper:
Although Estelle Getty played Bea Arthur’s 80-year-old mother Sophia on the show, in real life she was actually a year younger than her onscreen daughter.
Originally Getty’s Sophia was going to be an occasional guest star, but audiences loved her so much they decided to make her a permanent addition to the household.
Actor Charles Levin had been cast as their live-in cook and friend, a gay man named Coco, but he disappeared after the pilot episode and Sophia took over in the kitchen.
The real house has 4 bedrooms + 3.5 baths and a total of 2,900 square feet.
Blanche’s Bedroom:
Betty White says she was originally supposed to play Blanche, and Rue McClanahan was going to play Rose.
They wanted to play different kinds of characters than they had in the past and asked if they could switch..
Rue McClanahan loved Blanche’s wardrobe so much that she took many of the outfits home with her.
An article about the sale of her apartment after her death reports that she turned a room into an extra closet to hold them all. You can see the listing photos of her former home here .
The Living Room Opens to the Covered Porch and Patio:
They had a similar porch and patio on “Golden Girls:”
In 1992 they took a stab at a spin-off called “ The Golden Palace ” with Sophia, Blanche and Rose running a hotel with help from Cheech Marin and Don Cheadle.
Remember that one? I didn’t! Apparently it was canceled after only one season.
Last month Hulu removed an episode from its streaming platform in which the ladies were wearing mud masks and a blackface joke was made. You can read about on Deadline .
That joke didn’t age well, but I was surprised by how funny many of the episodes still are nearly 30 years after the sitcom went off the air.
The Back of the House:
An Aerial View of the Property:
The Exterior of the House in the 1980s on TV:
Variety reports:
In addition to being architecture and design enthusiasts, the homeâs former owners also apparently dabbled in collecting exotic plants. The propertyâs grounds are dotted with an unusual species of palm trees, and the lush landscaping includes several eye-catching tropical specimens.
Surrounding the perimeter of the house is a Japanese engawa, a wraparound porch, that connects to the homeâs veranda in the back, which offers up the perfect place to lounge in the hot summer months. âGolden Girlsâ location scouts were initially drawn to the homeâs flourishing flora since it gave off more of a Miami vibe than most L.A.-area properties.
You can stream all seven seasons of “The Golden Girls” on Hulu, which is where I took these screenshots. The other photos were provided by the listing agent.
Update: The house sold for more than $1 million over asking, at $4,000,260.

The ‘Golden Girls’ House Sells for Over $4 Million! Take a Tour Inside the Iconic Sitcom Home
If youâre a big fan of The Golden Girls , then youâre familiar with the sitcomâs iconic home. Viewers finally got a look inside the beloved house when it went up for sale in mid-July. Although the Los Angeles residence was on the market for the first time ever, itâs officially no longer available after it sold for $1 million over the asking price!
The gorgeous 2,901-square-foot home was listed with Douglas Elliman real estate for a whopping $2,999,000. However, the property â which features four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a massive kitchen and stunning outdoor space â was purchased for $4,000,620 in August, People reported.
When the home first went up for sale earlier this summer, fans couldnât have been more excited to get a look inside. Considering Betty White and her late costars, Bea Arthur , Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty , filmed on a set at a different location, the residence â which is located in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles â served as just the exterior.
The homeâs appearance fits perfectly with the showâs Miami storyline, but the inside paints a whole different picture. According to House Beautiful , the home was custom-built in 1955 by a Hawaiian architect after the owners were inspired to incorporate their family history from Honolulu.
Although itâs been nearly three decades since The Golden Girls went off the air in 1992, the legendary sitcom remains just as popular today. The show, which told the story of four older women living together in Miami while experiencing the ups and downs of their golden years, was just as memorable for the cast as it was for fans.
âWe adored each other,â Betty once shared . âIt was such a special experience. Between scenes, instead of going to our dressing rooms, weâd sit there and yak about very intimate things.â
The award-winning actress even dished why her role on The Golden Girls will always be so special. âIt was just heaven. It was like being with your family every day,â she has said. âIâve missed Golden Girls since we went off the air.â

Looks familiar, right? The stunning home was used as the exterior throughout The Golden Girls â seven seasons from 1985 to 1992.
An aerial view of the home makes it look even more impressive.
Welcome inside! Although it looks nothing like the Blanche familyâs home, the Brentwood residence boasts eye-catching decorations. In the living room, you can find white couches, vaulted ceilings and a veranda that leads you to the backyard.
This photo gives you a view of the enviable veranda while outdoors. The woodwork is incredible.
The kitchen is nothing that we expected as it features green furnishings and turquoise cabinets.
The residence is also fitted with an office, which includes a leather chair, table and sofa.
If youâre feeling tired, you can go take nap in one of the homeâs four bedrooms. This one features bright green love seats, a queen bed and floor-to-ceiling windows.
One of the four bathrooms could practically be a spa as it boasts a shower, bathtub and tons of space.
Whoever purchased this home is one lucky owner!

Farmstead house in Gering shares story of life on the high plains
GERING, Neb. (KOLN) - The next time you are in Gering, youâll want to take a tour of the Wiedeman House, and get a taste of farm life in Nebraskaâs Panhandle.
We talked with Susan Wiedeman about the house that now sits on the grounds of the Legacy of the Plains Museum. âMy grandfather built this house, and it was right on the edge of Gering,â Wiedeman said. âHe bought the farm in 1926. He was an immigrant from Russia, and he came to the U.S. through Canada. He built the barn first because the horses did a lot of the work then, so they were important. The family lived in the hay loft. They family stayed there for about 6 months until the house was completed.â
When the house was built, it had all of the modern conveniences for its time. âThe kitchen is originally in the basement of this house,â Wiedeman said. âIt was built that way intentionally. You did a lot of cooking, and that was the coolest part of the house. The kitchen countertop is not even three feet high. My grandmother was only 5 feet tall, so it was custom-built for her. In the 1930â˛s, they had indoor plumbing, because they had their own septic system. They were on electricity from the city of Gering. They had telephone service, and again it was all because of the proximity to the city of Gering.â
Wiedeman says her parents Betty and Ed Wiedeman got married and moved into the house in 1945. Her grandparents moved to another place. But when her parents moved to a different house, her grandparents moved back but did a number of updates, including bringing the kitchen upstairs, and instead of having three bedrooms in a row, a bathroom was put in, and closets were made bigger in two of the bedrooms.
When you visit the house, you will see that the downstairs still showcases the 1930â˛s era. But the upstairs is where the updates were made, so the interior design is in a 1950â˛s style. Many family members of the Wiedemans lived in the house over the years. Eventually, a healthcare business wanted to build a new facility where the farmstead was located. In exchange for selling the land, Heritage Healthcare donated the farmstead buildings. The Legacy of the Plains Museum helped move all of the buildings to the museum grounds. âMy aunt Ruth, who lives in Denver, helped underwrite much of the cost of that,â Wiedeman said. Now the house is on display for the public to enjoy at the Legacy of the Plains Museum.

My husband and I remember taking this tour on our Honeymoon in May of 2001. We still have non-digital photos of the Golden Girls house. We never realized until now that it wasn't there when we came back to Hollywood Studios for our tenth wedding anniversary and we even took our son to the Extreme Stunt Show! Thanks for this article.
