If you’re looking for a great place to grab a bite with friends or family while in town, Cincinnati’s local restaurants won’t let you down. We have listed some of our top places below!
Best Italian – Pepp & Dolores | 1501 Vine St., Over-the-Rhine
Inspired by the spirit and sense of hospitality experienced at Sunday supper in the home of our grandparents, Pepp & Dolores is a casual Italian restaurant that pays homage to family and to the food that brings people together. Featuring housemate pastas, carefully curated wines, and a balance of cherished family recipes with fresh, vibrant flavors that make us feel: This is home.
Soul Food/Fried Chicken – The Eagle | 1342 Vine St., Over-the-Rhine
At the Eagle, house-brined and dredged Fried Chicken and Southern Sides are the stars of the show. With "Best Of" accolades around the country, our chicken brings people together. We source free range, all natural birds, and couple it with classic southern side dishes, sandwiches, and carefully curated cocktails, along with a select list of local craft beers and other American favorites. This is approachable, comfort food done right.
Great Brunch – Avalanche Crepes & Waffles |160 W McMillan St, Corryville
It’s peak season for indulgent eating. We’ve been high up in the mountains preparing the perfect brunch and we’re finally ready to share it with one of the hottest college towns around. So, if you’re bored with traditional breakfast and looking for fare with more flare, Avalanche Crepes + Waffles has got you covered.
Coffee and Baked Goods – The Fix Coffeehouse & Bar | 48 East McMillan Street, Walnut Hills
A warm and inviting place to start your day, The Fix serves great coffee and has a great assortment of breakfast foods and snacks. Take some time to sit and sip on a hot coffee or get an iced coffee to go.
Indian – Adeep India | 211 W McMillan St, University Heights
Great local spot for Indian cuisine. Perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. A casual eatery for traditional Indian dishes, from tandoori fare to chicken tikka masala. Dine in or carry out.
Pizza – Mac's Pizza Pub |205 W McMillan St, University Heights
Where friends and family come together: Founded on the idea that old-world, hand-crafted pizza should be readily available and affordable, we became a hot spot for college students and locals to enjoy a fun night out without breaking the bank. And we never looked back.
Neighborhood Breakdown
Visiting Cincinnati gives you a glimpse of the big-city adventure and small-town charm that awaits you. Different areas within the city cater to different activities and lifestyles. We have listed some of the neighborhoods that make up the wonderful city of Cincinnati.
Clifton/Corryville
While Clifton is the neighborhood officially housing our Uptown campus, the Corryville neighborhood is often grouped together and they connect right along the campus edge. This neighborhood houses our Short Vine street, a favorite weekend area for students. You can find students in these neighborhoods living in nearby apartments or converted houses or celebrating a Bearcats win on the weekends.
Centered downtown near the Ohio river, this neighborhood is a bustling area housing the Paycor Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds. On gamedays, you can find students cheering on our local teams.
Over-the-Rhine
One of the largest, most intact urban districts in the country, Over-the-Rhine is the heart of downtown Cincinnati. Home of countless local restaurants, historic Findlay Market, and the Cincinnati Music Hall. You can find our students and families visiting this neighborhood whenever they want to get a taste of the city!
Covington/Newport
While not a neighborhood of Cincinnati, these nearby Kentucky towns are just over the bridge and are a quick 10 minute drive. With the aquarium and activities located in Newport and downtown shopping and eating in Covington, you can find our students throughout Kentucky.
Sightseeing
Sports, food, museums, art exhibits, parks, concerts and so much more! If you’re looking for it, Cincinnati has it. Outside of campus, Cincinnati offers a plethora of activities that you can enjoy. During your visit, stop at one of the amazing excursions we have listed below!
Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens
The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is the sixth oldest zoo in the United States, founded in 1873 and officially opening in 1875. It is in the Avondale neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio
Findlay Market

Located just blocks from downtown in Over-the-Rhine, a dense historic neighborhood rich in 19th century architecture, Findlay Market remains the bustling center of farm fresh, locally sourced, artisanal and specialty foods. Open Tuesday through Sunday year-round, Findlay Market is home to more than 50 full-time merchants selling meat, fish, poultry, produce, flowers, cheese, deli, ethnic foods and more. On weekends, the Market also hosts a thriving Farmers Market, a vibrant Outdoor Market, numerous street performers and several special events.

Cincinnati is full of vibrant and rich history. Known as the "Queen City", Cincinnati has no shortage of interesting pieces of history that will keep you learning something new everyday.
Cincinnati was founded in 1788 and named after Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus who was a hero of the Roman Republic in the fifth century and a model of civic responsibility.
In the 19th century, Cincinnati was America’s meatpacking powerhouse which is how Cincinnati earned the nickname “Porkopolis” and is still fondly revered with statue pigs throughout the city and our annual “Flying Pig Marathon”.
First held in 1976, Cincinnati has America’s largest Oktoberfest celebration that includes about 700,000 people featuring genuine German inspired food and beer, live music, a wiener dog race, and world’s largest chicken dance.
Cincinnati is home to the first professional baseball team established in 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, now known as the Cincinnati Reds.
"UC is such a fun, vibrant community. We have so much to offer and there are many faces to UC, helping to ensure most anyone can fit in! We are all Bearcats.”
Emilee Suchomski, Director of Admissions
“I am proud to be apart of such a diverse community of welcoming students with such a strong alumni network.”
Grace Nonnamaker, Admissions Counselor
“If you weren't told this is a university, there is a 50% chance you wouldn't be able to tell you were on a college campus. Everything is so different, yet it merges so well together. There aren’t the same styles anywhere on campus. Everywhere you look and go is different than where you came. The architecture and greenspaces are a refreshing change from the average college campus.”
Sam Clay, Admissions Counselor
“I am part of the UC community! And every person is very hardworking! It's not just the building that made the university. It is the people who work hard to make the campus home! UC gives me a chance to play different roles like studying as a student, working part-time as student staff, working for others as student leaders, and volunteering to help others! So, yes I am a proud Bearcat!”
