Let’s Take a Peek Inside Tom Cruise’s Property Portfolio

At long last, “Top Gun: Maverick” is set to land in theaters at the end of May. A-lister Tom Cruise will step back into the cockpit and reprise his role as test pilot Maverick.

Now 59, the seemingly ageless performer has been box-office gold since the 1980s. His hits include “Cocktail,” “Jerry McGuire,” and “A Few Good Men.” The father of three also starred in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, the latest of which is the upcoming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.”

With the superstar set to take off on the big screen, we thought we’d take a spin through the actor’s real estate.

Along with starring in blockbusters over the decades, the “Mission: Impossible” star has been busy when it comes to pricey real estate. In many cases, the paparazzi-averse Cruise tends to buy up multiple lots in extremely private locales.

So don your aviators, and let’s head into the “property zone.”

Clearwater condos

The star’s latest “mission”: a move to a giant spread in Clearwater, FL . He dropped $9,580,500 on a 20,826-square-foot, two-level penthouse in 2017. It’s located in the Skyview tower , which was reportedly altered to accommodate Cruise, according to the Tampa Bay Times .

The actor’s lavish living quarters include four bedrooms, a gym, game room, home theater, roof deck with an infinity pool, hot tub, gardens, and a bar, according to the Times.

The penthouse boasts a private garage with a car elevator on the second floor. That level also apparently includes a flight simulator. (Perhaps Cruise could get in some practice for his “Top Gun” role?) There’s also office space and a sports storage area.

Cruise paid an additional $1,475,000 for three more condos in the Clearwater high-rise, perhaps for staff or relatives.

The building, developed by fellow Scientologist Moises Agami , is located just blocks from the Church of Scientology headquarters. Cruise has been a member of the church since 1986.

Terrific in Telluride

More recently, the “Risky Business” actor took care of a piece of business in the Rocky Mountain region. He sold his longtime Telluride, CO, ranch for a whopping $39.5 million.

Cruise had held on to the 320-acre mountain retreat for decades, before trying to quietly sell it for $59 million in 2014. It was relisted in March 2021 for $39.5 million and quickly sold.

Cruise spent years amassing the land, then built a 10,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home in 1994.

The picturesque home was the setting for a photo shoot with Vanity Fair magazine featuring his daughter Suri  with his then-wife Katie Holmes . Oprah Winfrey also interviewed Cruise at the home in 2008.

The main house includes a chef’s kitchen, fitness center, rec room, den, office suite, two fireplaces, and multiple terraces. There’s also a three-bedroom guest lodge.

Though secluded, the retreat is just minutes to Telluride and a two-hour private jet flight from L.A.

Watch: Mark Wahlberg Wants How Much for His Beverly Hills Mansion?!

Lavish in Los Angeles

Before decamping to the Sunshine State, the busy actor let go of his holdings in La-La land.

In 2016, Cruise sold the Beverly Hills compound he had shared with  Holmes . The 1.2-acre spread changed hands for a startling $38 million. He had paid $30.5 million in 2007.

The compound included a 10,000-square-foot mansion with seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a pair of guesthouses.

That sale came almost a year after he sold his Hollywood Hills compound to  Eva Longoria for $11.4 million.

Initially listed for $13 million, that property featured two adjoining houses built in 2005 on an ultraprivate 2.75-acre lot. The compound consists of a three-bedroom French villa, a four-bedroom guesthouse, two standalone studios, and a quaint stone cottage.

Cruise and Holmes leased a mansion in the 90210 for $55,000 a month from 2001 through 2008.

Last offered for lease for $100,000 a month in 2016, the three-acre estate includes a nine-bedroom main house, a guesthouse, a pool with a spa, and a tennis court.

Crash pad in New York City

Cruise sold his longtime East Village loft in the American Felt Building for $3 million in 2013. He had picked up the pied-à-terre in 1984, following his starring role in “Risky Business.”

The two-bedroom, 2,200-square-foot unit is said to contain a state-of-the-art gym. It’s located on the 10th floor of the 12-floor building.

Cruise reportedly shared the condo with all three of his ex-wives, including Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman . The building housed other notable residents, including author Bret Easton Ellis and the Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti , the Real Deal reported at the time of the sale. Cruise’s loft was sold in an off-market deal.

Where Does Tom Cruise Live And How Big Is His House?

Tom Cruise at the 2018 "Mission Impossible -- Fallout" premiere

With a  net worth of $600 million , Tom Cruise and the word "movie star" are practically synonymous. Given his impressive resume, spanning from his breakout 1983 role in "Risky Business" to his ever-more-momentous "Mission Impossible" blockbuster franchise, the actor has not stopped making the big bucks for both himself and everyone around him — with his films earning hundreds of upon hundreds in the three decades he's been a star.

Like many of Hollywood's biggest stars, Cruise's life story was as close to rags-to-riches as they come. "For years, all I had were a bed, a desk and a chair," Tom Cruise told Roger Ebert in 1986. "When I was making a movie, they put me in hotel rooms. Between jobs, I moved back into my apartment, and my lifestyle dropped considerably." Coming from an underprivileged childhood, Cruise quickly learned the value of hard work no matter one's net worth.  "It's a strange thing, being handed so much power," Cruise also related to Ebert.  "My point of view and my values haven't changed. Everybody wants to push and pull me, but I refuse to change my lifestyle."

Nonetheless, Cruise's lifestyle has changed on the surface at least. Given that he has no doubt ditched that scarcely decorated apartment for cushier digs since, let's explore just where and what type of home Cruise inhabits these days!

Tom Cruise's penthouse is cool — even for Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has called Florida his home base since 2018. Per Architectural Digest , Cruise fetched a pretty $55 million when he sold his Los Angeles and New York properties in 2016, moving into a multimillion-dollar penthouse in Clearwater, Florida. Planned by a wealthy Scientologist — Cruise is controversially tied to the religion — the 10-story SkyView condominium is one block from the Church of Scientology, per People . With Cruise reportedly close friends with church leader David Miscavige, a source told the outlet that the movie star was "very relaxed when he's here."

In addition to occupying the entire top two floors, according to AD, Cruise's pad packs amenities like a roof deck, a nearly 40-foot pool, a bar, and more. What sets the pad apart from other celebrity dig, however, is the passageway that leads to a private, smaller condo on the second floor (which houses a flight simulator, for one). Additionally, there is a nine-car garage and private car elevator (what a cool phrase to say). Now that's  on par with expectations for the "Mission Impossible" star.

Tom Cruise sold his vacation home in Colorado for millions

Although Clearwater, Florida, might be Tom Cruise's personal headquarters, he also owns property in West Sussex, England — for one. Per The Sun , the estate was purchased by Cruise in 2006 for a reported $4.2 million. Bearing the regal title of "Rede Place," the property is located in Dormans Park, East Grinstead, which is reportedly close to the British headquarters of the Church of Scientology. Boasting 14 acres of land and an 11,331-square-foot interior, per insider , the manor was constructed in 2003, meaning Cruise would likely be one of its very first owners.

Cruise parted ways with his longtime 320-acre Telluride, Colo. ranch, which was reportedly a vacation refuge frequented by Cruise with ex-wife Katie Holmes and his children. Putting the ranch on sale for $39.5 million in March, per Forbes , the home sold without a hitch two months later for the asking price . Ardent followers of Cruise's career might remember this was the shooting location for a follow-up to his infamous 2005 interview with Oprah Winfrey , as noted by  Town & Country . However, Cruise's Telluride ranch's main draw, aside from being a ski haven known for its celebrity denizens, is the cozy seclusion it provides for the uber-famous. No wonder it sold so fast!

Tom Cruise pulls a Mission: Implausible, surprising fans at D.C. theater

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

WASHINGTON - Ravi Khanna and his wife hadn't been to a movie together in years.

They took the weekday off - an anomaly for two Washington professionals - to catch a 2:30 p.m. showing of the newly released "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, Part One" on Tuesday. Khanna is a lifelong fan of the 27-year-old franchise and was thrilled to spend the day with his wife, watching the seventh installment in a series that inspired everything from his haircuts to his wardrobe in his 20s, he said.

Subscribe to The Post Most newsletter for the most important and interesting stories from The Washington Post.

But someone crashed their date: Tom Cruise , himself.

"My wife's jaw dropped. I was elated," Khanna, 47, told The Washington Post. "I remember squinting to make sure it's really him. . . . It's something I'll always remember for the rest of my life. I felt like a kid the rest of the day."

Cruise and the film's director, Christopher McQuarrie, surprised fans like Khanna by suddenly taking the stage just before the film began at AMC Georgetown 14 in Washington. Cruise and McQuarrie surprised Atlanta fans later that same day.

Khanna shared a video with The Post of the appearance, but employees at the theater, perhaps sworn to secrecy by the movie franchise's fictional spy agency, declined to confirm if the visit occurred.

"I didn't hear anything about that," a manager told The Post.

For Khanna, it was the moment of a lifetime. (And possibly the best date he's ever planned, Khanna added.)

Khanna and his wife snagged tickets to the matinee about a month in advance - a testament to Khanna's enduring love for the franchise. "Everything was about being Ethan Hunt, my version of it. I'd always rally my friends to go see the movies on opening days."

When they showed up to the theater around 2 p.m., there was more activity than they expected: free popcorn, drinks, T-shirts and hats.

"My wife was like, 'I haven't been to a movie in a long time, is this how movies are now?'" Khanna said laughingly. His wife remained confused; Khanna figured that everyone else must be as excited as him for the new film.

As they walked into their showing room, a theater employee suspiciously told the couple that they're in "for a real treat," Khanna recalled. "I didn't think twice. I'm eating it up."

A number of men in suits were scattered throughout the room, the couple noticed. "It seemed a bit too formal for an AMC," Khanna said. Still, he didn't question anything.

Then there was a camera. "My wife's asking, 'Is someone going to come out and say something?'" Khanna said. The lights dimmed, and trailers began. Trailers for "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie" seized the screen, suggesting business as usual. "It seemed like the movie is about to get started."

The lights turned back on. Cruise and McQuarrie sauntered out of an exit door by the screen and took the stage with a mic. "Everyone's just shellshocked. It wasn't screaming. It was almost silent for a minute," Khanna said. "Then it erupted."

Cruise and McQuarrie thanked people for coming out, adding that it was great seeing people back in theaters, a business hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

"It's great seeing you all. How are you?" Cruise said in the video Khanna shared with The Post. The crowd cheered. "You all enjoy the film. Have a great summer, okay?"

The actor and director stayed for a few minutes, and then the lights dimmed again, and the movie began.

"There was an element of shock, no question," Khanna said. "I didn't know how I was going to sleep that night."

And, according to Khanna, the movie was fantastic. "Exactly what a summer blockbuster is supposed to be."

Tom Cruise Has Seen Every Single Movie Released in Theaters

Tom Cruise sneaks into movie theaters and has seen every single movie released on the big screen. Yes, every single one.

Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is passionate about the cinematic experience, particularly in theaters, with the Top Gun: Maverick star revealing that he frequently puts on a simple disguise in order to see every movie that comes out. Every. Single. One. In a report courtesy of Vulture , which largely discusses how dull Cruise has apparently been at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, it's revealed that the star of Mission: Impossible completes the seemingly impossible task of seeing every movie that is released in theaters. Yes, presumably even Morbius .

Cruise revealed that he goes incognito to the theater saying, “I put on my cap and I sit in the audience.” Now, whether Tom Cruise actually endeavors to see every single movie that hits the big screen is open to debate. But, if anyone can do it, then it’s probably Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise has not been shy about vocalizing his love for releasing movies on the silver screen, with the actor adamant that the upcoming legacy sequel Top Gun: Maverick would not be released via streaming. Not so long as he draws breathe, anyway. “No, they wouldn’t — that’s not gonna happen, ever,” the actor said, no doubt smiling with his mouth but not his eyes. “That is never gonna happen. Ever. That is never gonna happen. No.”

This is far from the first time that Cruise has addressed the very suggestion of a streaming release for Top Gun: Maverick with such assertion. “That was not going to happen ever,” Cruise said of a streaming release for the long-awaited sequel last week. “I make movies for the big screen.” The actor even went so far as to contact theater owners and assure them that he will continue to fight for them. “I’ve spent a lot of time with theater owners. The people that serve the popcorn, the ones who make this [happen]," he said, before adding that he called them to say, "Please, I know what you’re going through. Just know we are making Mission: Impossible and Top Gun is coming out.”

Top Gun: Maverick Will Land in Theaters This Week

Top Gun: Maverick will pick up after more than thirty years since the release of the first Top Gun . Pete “Maverick” Mitchell has been of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators for just as long and feels he is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw, call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie, from a story conceived by Peter Craig and Justin Marks, Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the 1986 hit Top Gun and stars Tom Cruise as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, alongside Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer.

Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 27, 2022, and it is expected to be something to behold on the big screen.

“I’m very grateful to be here,” he said of Rome. “And to be part of this, this whole time period, had we not had the community here to say we will support you in making what we wanted to do. Because I want to make movies, I make movies for the big screen, that is what I do. I understand. There’s other areas and other platforms, I understand that I’ve studied everything up down and center, from making movies to studios to distribution. And I understand that I make movies for audiences, first and foremost, and to be able to have that kind of help.

So this is a moment this is very exciting.”

Cruise said to study the industry he insisted not just on attending studio premieres in a country but also on going to their theaters and watch their movies. A philosophy began forming.

New movies this weekend: Watch Tom Cruise's 'Mission: Impossible 7,' go to 'Theater Camp'

tom cruise home theatre

Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Check out a cool new flick this weekend, maybe even one with Tom Cruise doing crazy stuff.

The A-lister returns to put his body on the line for the big-screen experience in the seventh movie in the action-packed "Mission: Impossible" franchise. If superspy thrills aren't your jam, no worries: Ben Platt and Molly Gordon play over-the-top drama teachers at a struggling theater camp in a new comedy, while Laura Linney, Kathy Bates and Maggie Smith star in a heartwarming drama set in 1960s Ireland.

Here's a guide to new movies that will satisfy every cinematic taste, plus some noteworthy theatrical films making their streaming and on-demand debuts:

If you want to see Tom Cruise battle AI: 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One'

Cruise's super-duper secret agent Ethan Hunt and his crew are out to destroy a rogue artificial intelligence so no nation can take hold of its immense online power, though the computer villain fights back to give our heroes – including assassin/love interest Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) – fits in this knowingly silly, joyously mad action-fest. Esai Morales plays the AI's conniving surrogate in the real world, Hayley Atwell joins the franchise as a thief in way over her head, and most importantly the stunt scenes are as top-notch as ever.

Where to watch: In theaters

'Be the student': Hayley Atwell talks lessons from Tom Cruise in 'Mission: Impossible'

If you ever embraced your inner diva as a teen: 'Theater Camp'

"Waiting for Guffman" meets "Abbott Elementary" with this enjoyable mockumentary about the dramatic goings-on at an upstate New York theater camp. But this summer is a real mess: The owner (Amy Sedaris) is in a coma, her influencer-bro son (Jimmy Tatro) has no idea how to run the place, and two longtime teachers (Platt and Gordon, who co-directs) can't get past their own egos to finish an original musical. The high-maintenance youngsters grow on you, especially Noah Galvin as the scene-stealing production manager.

'Theater Camp': Ben Platt on the 'great joys' of working with fiancé Noah Galvin

If you need your heart warmed by some familiar faces: 'The Miracle Club'

In Dublin circa 1967, Chrissie (Laura Linney) returns home for her estranged mother's funeral and old tensions arise with her mom's closest friends, Lily (Maggie Smith) and Eileen (Kathy Bates). But a life-affirming trip to Lourdes for the three women – alongside young mother Dolly (Agnes O'Casey), Lily and Eileen's pal – gives them perspective on their past and present struggles, plus brings them together in new ways in a sweet and endearing if predictable emotional drama.

If you yearn for a bloody good time: 'Final Cut'

Remember that best picture winner "The Artist"? The film's Oscar-nominated director and star actress – Michel Hazanavicius and wife Bérénice Bejo – are back with something completely different, and downright hilarious: a French meta zombie comedy redo of Japan's "One Cut of the Dead." Romain Duris plays a French filmmaker hired to do a live one-take 30-minute horror show, chaos reigns when a member of the "undead" comes down with diarrhea, and many, many other things go awry.

If you could use an important history lesson: 'Lakota Nation vs. United States'

The well-crafted, thought-provoking documentary takes an honest look at America's relationship with its Indigenous communities by focusing on the Lakota tribes' long struggle to take back sacred land in the Black Hills. Historians and activists alike discuss how the government violated treaties in the 1900s to exert its control over the Lakota people, how the fight went from the battlefield to the court system and the significance of modern-day concerns over conservation and reparations. An infuriating watch but also a powerful one.

If you were a big 'Bird Box' nerd: 'Bird Box Barcelona'

Based on Josh Malerman's unnerving novel, the original "Bird Box" movie with Sandra Bullock was everybody's go-to post-apocalyptic horror binge of the 2018 holiday season. While that movie was pretty mediocre, this spinoff of sorts is actually an improvement. The story digs into the early days of the terrifying situation, where anybody who sees a mysterious entity with their eyes turns suicidal, and Mario Casas and Georgina Campbell ("Barbarian") play survivors trying to find sanctuary in Spain as a villainous human element arises in their midst.

Where to watch: Netflix

If you never want to go on a hike again: 'Quicksand'

Carolina Gaitàn and Allan Hawco star in the survival thriller as an American couple in Colombia for work and on the verge of divorce. They decide to go exploring in a famed nearby forest but run afoul of a shady dude and wind up stuck in, yep, a large swath of quicksand. That's pretty bad news, though it quickly gets worse thanks to hungry ants and an extremely large mama snake looking to protect her eggs. And thank goodness for the freaky wildlife that lifts an otherwise middling narrative.

Where to watch: Shudder

Also on streaming:

  • The action-adventure " Transformers: Rise of the Beasts ," the latest franchise installment featuring transforming alien robots, is now available to rent/buy on Apple TV , Vudu , Amazon and Google Play .
  • Wes Anderson's sci-fi throwback " Asteroid City ," with an A-list cast including Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson , is also available to rent/buy on Apple TV and other on-demand platforms.
  • "Imagine Dragons: Live in Vegas," a documentary chronicling the popular rock band's rise to fame and strong connection to their Nevada hometown, is streaming on Hulu beginning Friday.

Tom Cruise, Alejandro González Iñárritu

Tom Cruise will star in the new feature from The Revenant filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment are in talks to acquire the package, which marks Iñárritu’s first English-language film since the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer The Revenant nearly a decade ago.

Iñárritu last directed the Spanish-language Netflix drama Bardo . Prior to this, the director was in theaters with The Revenant , which earned over $500 million at the global box office and landed him the best director Oscar. This followed his 2015 best picture, director and original wins for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) .

Cruise has been nominated twice for best actor, in Oliver Stone’s Born on the Fourth of July (1990) and Cameron Crowe’s Jerry Maguire (1997), and once for supporting actor in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia (2000). Iñárritu directed DiCaprio to Oscar gold in The Revenant and helped Michael Keaton land a best actor nom for Birdman . The pairing of Cruise and the filmmaker is sure to raise the notion that the actor is hoping for a prestige play.

Warners, meanwhile, has been beefing up its roster of features with top talent in recent months, locking down Ryan Coogler’s next feature and greenlighting a Paul Thomas Anderson movie with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star. Legendary and Warners are out in theaters next weekend with Dune 2 , the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic.

Deadline first reported the news of the project.
