Tom Cruise, 59, Looks Identical Again To His ‘Top Gun’ Self At 23 In New Pics On Set Of ‘MI8’

Photos taken on the set of 'Mission Impossible 8' show Tom Cruise looking as if he hasn't aged from his days on 'Top Gun' in the mid-1980s.

Tom Cruise  has stunned fans with his changing appearance once again. In early October, the 59-year-old actor looked totally unrecognizable while at a baseball game with son Connor , 26, though his regular features returned when he was spotted at an aviation lesson in England on November 12. But just this week, Tom’s appearance seemed different again when he was pictured filming plane stunt scenes for the eighth  Mission  Impossible  movie in Duxford Aerodrome, Cambridgeshire. In fact, Tom looks an awful lot like his 23-year-old self from the first  Top Gun  movie (see second photo below) that he filmed back in 1985, as seen in the photo below.

The images show Tom chatting to crew members while preparing to fly a yellow Boeing-Stearman Model 75, according to  The Daily Mail . He had on a navy jacket, tan trousers, and a black woollen hat. A mysterious mark was also visible on Tom’s cheek in the photos, though the circumstances of how this mark came to be are unclear. Later on, Tom reportedly changed into his signature khaki green flight suit to practice flying for the upcoming installment of the action-spy film franchise.

Tom’s changing appearance has certainly been confusing for fans. He looked  so  different with his son at the baseball game between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers in San Francisco on October 9. Tom and Connor, whom he adopted with ex-wife Nicole Kidman , were all smiles as they watched the game and conversed with nearby fans. But roughly a month later, Tom looked like his usual self again when he was photographed taking an aviation lesson at Duxford Airfield in England. Like we said, it’s a confusing situation!

Tom is in Europe performing stunt training for the eighth installment of Mission Impossible , scheduled for a July 22, 2023 theatrical release. Filming has not yet officially begun, as Mission Impossible 7 — which arrives in theaters on September 30, 2022 — only wrapped in September. The original plan was to film the seventh and eighth installment back to back, but Tom’s commitment to COVID pandemic-delayed Top Gun: Maverick promotional duties impacted those plans. The  Top Gun  sequel is currently slated for a May 27, 2022 release.

Tom Cruise ’s frequent collaborator and Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie wished the star a happy 60th birthday on Sunday by sharing a new behind-the-scenes photo that appears to be taken from the eighth M:I movie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part Two (check it out below).

While McQuarrie did not add any context about the image, it sees Cruise hanging off the wing of a mid-roll vintage red biplane — similar to the one we saw in a pre-recorded message Cruise sent from the South Africa set of the film during CinemaCon in April.

Cruise, who is known for constantly pushing the limits in his self-performed stunts, is currently flying high with Top Gun: Maverick which has grossed over $1.1B globally. This past weekend, its sixth, the movie saw another incredible hold , down just 14% domestically and 16% at the international box office.

Maverick co-star Glen Powell also tweeted McQ’s photo, adding “TC, there is just no one like you. Keep hangin’ in there. Happy Birthday!”

Cruise spent his birthday on Sunday at the British Formula 1 Grand Prix, where he was supporting pal and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. “He’s a great friend of mine. I hope he has a great day,” Cruise told Sky Sports on the starting grid. (Hamilton ended up placing third while Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz claimed the first win of his career.)

The source shared that the pair met through mutual friends in London. “What started as a basic friendship quickly turned into something more special,” the insider added.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Tom Cruise on American soil, he’s been busy filming Mission: Impossible 7 overseas for several years. So when we saw him at the baseball game, up close and personal , in San Francisco on Saturday, he was almost unrecognizable to many fans. His face looked different?

Former ESPN reporter Molly Knight even questioned whether it was the A-list star at the game , tweeting, “Gonna spend the rest of tonight and all of tomorrow wondering if some random dude convinced the Giants he was Tom Cruise.” Even though she later confirmed that it indeed was Cruise , everyone on social media had an opinion about his face. The Sun even dove deeper to ask Dr. Alice Henshaw for her medical assessment about what is going on, even though he’s clearly not her patient. “Tom definitely looks swollen and puffy, which could be due to filler, post-procedure swelling, or weight gain,” she told the U.K. publication. “Often, surgical procedure such as a platysmal plasty, or neck lift, combined with a mid-facelift could create this type of swelling in these areas, and scars are easily disguised.”

We have to remember that Cruise is now 59 years old, and while he’s still an action star, his face is an investment in his Hollywood fortunes. He’s allowed to do whatever he wants to his face if it makes him feel good or heck, even gain a pound or two — we all like a delicious cookie or a bag of chips. However, some in the entertainment industry are pleading to everyone to allow them to age gracefully. This weekend, the 59-year-old actor was spotted at the Duxford Airfield in Cambridge, England, looking more like himself.

The upcoming M: 18 is the follow-up to the 2018 movie Mission: Impossible Fallout and is scheduled for release in 2023.

The actor appeared less bloated in the newer images compared to a month ago when he was subject to rumors about potentially undergoing cosmetic surgery.

Tom Cruise emerged in a navy blue sweater and dark blue jeans with a head full of hair. In addition, the Missions Impossible star appeared less bloated but seemed to have gained a little weight .

Mission Impossible 7 has finished filming

Despite currently filming scenes for Mission Impossible 8, the previous installment is yet to be released.

As with many movies in recent times, Mission Impossible 7 has had several COVID-related delays.

Mission Impossible 7 gaffer Martin Smith revealed that the movie had finished wrapping in September on his Instagram account.

Tom Cruise talks about filming Mission Impossible

Tom Cruise first starred as Ethan Hunt in the 1996 movie Mission Impossible.

The spy movie, which the actor produced, was a commercial and critical success and was the third highest-grossing film that year.

In a recent interview, he spoke about creating the movie in a clip via GamesRadar .

“I looked at Paramount, and I thought what I wanted to produce was something – I looked at it in many different ways… I wanted something that was going to be very commercial, potentially, but I wanted something that was going to be artistically challenging,” Cruise explains.

In an interview about the film, Tom Cruise explained the movie’s challenges in several countries.

“What is the challenge of this thing going to be? I wanted it to be an international film, and an international cast,” Cruise adds. “Which at that time was different. I wanted to shoot it in England… I remember they said, ‘Can’t you shoot it in LA, or New York?’ And I was like, ‘No, I actually, I want to go to London.'”

In addition, the busy actor is also promoting the upcoming movie Top Gun: Maverick, which is scheduled for release next year.

At long last, “Top Gun: Maverick” is set to land in theaters at the end of May. A-lister Tom Cruise will step back into the cockpit and reprise his role as test pilot Maverick.

Now 59, the seemingly ageless performer has been box-office gold since the 1980s. His hits include “Cocktail,” “Jerry McGuire,” and “A Few Good Men.” The father of three also starred in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, the latest of which is the upcoming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.”

With the superstar set to take off on the big screen, we thought we’d take a spin through the actor’s real estate.

Along with starring in blockbusters over the decades, the “Mission: Impossible” star has been busy when it comes to pricey real estate. In many cases, the paparazzi-averse Cruise tends to buy up multiple lots in extremely private locales.

So don your aviators, and let’s head into the “property zone.”

Clearwater condos

The star’s latest “mission”: a move to a giant spread in Clearwater, FL . He dropped $9,580,500 on a 20,826-square-foot, two-level penthouse in 2017. It’s located in the Skyview tower , which was reportedly altered to accommodate Cruise, according to the Tampa Bay Times .

The actor’s lavish living quarters include four bedrooms, a gym, game room, home theater, roof deck with an infinity pool, hot tub, gardens, and a bar, according to the Times.

The penthouse boasts a private garage with a car elevator on the second floor. That level also apparently includes a flight simulator. (Perhaps Cruise could get in some practice for his “Top Gun” role?) There’s also office space and a sports storage area.

Cruise paid an additional $1,475,000 for three more condos in the Clearwater high-rise, perhaps for staff or relatives.

The building, developed by fellow Scientologist Moises Agami , is located just blocks from the Church of Scientology headquarters. Cruise has been a member of the church since 1986.

Terrific in Telluride

More recently, the “Risky Business” actor took care of a piece of business in the Rocky Mountain region. He sold his longtime Telluride, CO, ranch for a whopping $39.5 million.

Cruise had held on to the 320-acre mountain retreat for decades, before trying to quietly sell it for $59 million in 2014. It was relisted in March 2021 for $39.5 million and quickly sold.

Cruise spent years amassing the land, then built a 10,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home in 1994.

The picturesque home was the setting for a photo shoot with Vanity Fair magazine featuring his daughter Suri  with his then-wife Katie Holmes . Oprah Winfrey also interviewed Cruise at the home in 2008.

The main house includes a chef’s kitchen, fitness center, rec room, den, office suite, two fireplaces, and multiple terraces. There’s also a three-bedroom guest lodge.

Though secluded, the retreat is just minutes to Telluride and a two-hour private jet flight from L.A.

Lavish in Los Angeles

Before decamping to the Sunshine State, the busy actor let go of his holdings in La-La land.

In 2016, Cruise sold the Beverly Hills compound he had shared with  Holmes . The 1.2-acre spread changed hands for a startling $38 million. He had paid $30.5 million in 2007.

The compound included a 10,000-square-foot mansion with seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a pair of guesthouses.

That sale came almost a year after he sold his Hollywood Hills compound to  Eva Longoria for $11.4 million.

Initially listed for $13 million, that property featured two adjoining houses built in 2005 on an ultraprivate 2.75-acre lot. The compound consists of a three-bedroom French villa, a four-bedroom guesthouse, two standalone studios, and a quaint stone cottage.

Beverly Hills rental home with Holmes

Cruise and Holmes leased a mansion in the 90210 for $55,000 a month from 2001 through 2008.

Last offered for lease for $100,000 a month in 2016, the three-acre estate includes a nine-bedroom main house, a guesthouse, a pool with a spa, and a tennis court.

Crash pad in New York City

Cruise sold his longtime East Village loft in the American Felt Building for $3 million in 2013. He had picked up the pied-à-terre in 1984, following his starring role in “Risky Business.”

The two-bedroom, 2,200-square-foot unit is said to contain a state-of-the-art gym. It’s located on the 10th floor of the 12-floor building.

Cruise reportedly shared the condo with all three of his ex-wives, including Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman . The building housed other notable residents, including author Bret Easton Ellis and the Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti , the Real Deal reported at the time of the sale. Cruise’s loft was sold in an off-market deal.
